When The Mona Lisa Was Stolen: 1911's Art Theft That Made The Painting World Famous

Even if you are not an art lover, you have seen reproductions of the Mona Lisa, Leonardo de Vinci’s famous 16th century portrait that has been hailed as a masterpiece. Today, we see the Mona Lisa’s enigmatic smile on t-shirts, coffee mugs, phone cases, and mousepads. She is so popular and recognizable that it is hard for us to believe that the painting hung in relative obscurity in Paris’ Louvre museum until it was stolen in 1911. The theft and the ensuing search for the painting brought world-wide attention to the Mona Lisa and made it the most-recognized painting in the world.

West Virginia Is Charging Its Inmates $0.03 Cents a Minute to Read Free E-Books. Here's Why That Matters

On its face, it’s a welcome proposition: people incarcerated in West Virginia prisons will be given access to electronic tablets, allowing them to read books and articles, listen to music, write emails, and send photos and video chat with their friends and family. But it will cost them: $0.03-$0.05 cents a minute if they want to crack open, say, The Bluest Eye or 1984. This, despite all the books being pulled from a free online library.

Pakistan summons Norwegian Ambassador amid outcry over Koran burning at rally in Kristiansand

Islamabad expressed “deep concern” and launched a diplomatic action over the burning of the Koran in Norway, while the man who tried to save the book earned high praise on Pakistani social media.

Last week, a young Muslim counter-protester tackled Lars Thorsen, the head of the Stop Islamization of Norway (SIAN), after he set a copy of the Koran on fire at an anti-Muslim rally in the city of Kristiansand. The video of the incident caused a strong reaction in Pakistan, where the man reportedly named Ilyas Umer was hailed as hero on social media for trying to “save” the most-revered book in Islam.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This, ultimately, is what unfettered and unchecked migration is bringing to Europe; massive blows to the guest country, in terms of violent crimes and a high degree of rapes, and and a complete inability to assimilate.

‘Cross our red lines & be destroyed’: Iran’s elite IRGC chief warns US, Israel and Saudi Arabia at large pro-govt rally

All external foes will be defeated if they make moves against Iran, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander warned at a massive pro-government rally amid protests over fuel price hikes.

Major General Hossein Salami addressed people in downtown Tehran on Monday. He said that the country’s rivals are “no longer capable of anything” in their attacks against the nation.

We have shown patience towards the hostile moves of America, the Zionist regime [Israel] and Saudi Arabia against the Islamic Republic of Iran... but we will destroy them if they cross our red lines.

Thousands have marched on the streets of the country’s capital and gathered on the Enqelan Square (Revolution Square). Calling themselves the ‘Supporters of the Leadership’, the demonstrators waved national flags, carried placards and chanted slogans in support for the Supreme Leader Ali Khanemei and the current government. Some were also seen burning American flags.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Which nearly assures of of a cooked up false flag, over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

ATMs Spitting Back Bank Cards In Lebanon As "Dollars Have Virtually Disappeared"

Though banks reopened this week in Lebanon, with the country's financial institutions remaining front and center in massive anti-government protests amid accusations of corruption and wild mismanagement, withdrawal limits have now been made official by the country's Banks Association — previously unofficially enforced.

The formal controls now include limiting withdrawals to $1,000 per week, with transfers abroad only ambiguously defined necessary for “urgent matters”.

Yet the collective panic, driven by fears patrons won't be able to retrieve their deposits from banks, has only compounded, as now The Washington Post reports “Dollars have virtually disappeared.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, this Lebanese dollar disruption, may well be only the harbinger of the "great unravelling in the MIddle East", and other countries' currencies could start to fold, like a bad set of asthmatic accordions.

A Record-Breaking Dollar Bond Offering From China Could Be Imminent

China is set to expand its bond market through a record sale of sovereign bonds in dollars, according to Bloomberg sources.

The bond offering could raise up to $6 billion, would be one of the largest dollar bond offerings on record. The offering could be seen as soon as Tuesday.

Sources said the Ministry of Finance is considering tenors of three years, five years, 10 years and 20 years:

"It reaffirms China's determination to develop an orderly offshore dollar bond market for Chinese issuers," Anne Zhang, head of fixed income for JPMorgan Private Bank in Asia, told Bloomberg. "The new deal will further complete a sovereign curve," she said.

The size of the issuance would be more than double last year's size, and triple the amount from 2017.

Israel first democracy to expel Human Rights Watch staffer, director says

Israel is set to expel a Human Rights Watch employee, its executive director Ken Roth said on Sunday, denouncing the forthcoming deportation of one of his staffers.

US citizen Omar Shakir, the New York-based rights group's director for Israel and the Palestinian territories, is to be deported from Israel on Monday over his alleged support of a boycott of the country, AFP said.

Israel accuses him of being a supporter of the banned Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which calls for a broad-ranging boycott to pressure Israel to end its rights abuses against Palestinians.

The expulsion, upheld by Israel’s supreme court, would make Shakir the first HRW official to be expelled from the country under a controversial 2017 law allowing the deportation of foreigners who support the boycott, according to authorities.

Israel's supreme court orders expulsion of Human Rights Watch campaigner

Webmaster's Commentary:

Roth is terribly mistaken by characterizing Israel as a "democracy"; at best, it has devolved into a wickedly apartheid, self-proclaimed theocracy, with nuclear weapons.

Open Letter to UK Home Secretary Priti Pateland Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott

We write this open letter, as medical doctors, to express our serious concerns about the physical and mental health of Julian Assange. Our professional concerns follow publication recently of the harrowing eyewitness accounts of Craig Murray and John Pilger of the case management hearing on Monday 21 October 2019 at Westminster Magistrates Court. The hearing related to the upcoming February 2020 hearing of the request by the US government for Mr Assange’s extradition to the US in relation to his work as a publisher of information, including information about alleged crimes of the US government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Assange may well be "assassinated" by a number of methods, converging to attempt to make the murder seem to have been suicide, as we found with Epstein's "curious case".

He is being gradually killed, through elements of medical neglect; psychological torture; potential misdiagnosis, and medications, (or weaponized illnesses) to create that outcome of a painful, horrific death; if he makes it out of Balmarch alive, it will be an amazing feat, but I would not bet on it.

Indispensable No More? How the American Public Sees U.S. Foreign Policy

Executive Summary:
The Eurasia Group Foundation (EGF) commissioned a national survey to investigate the foreign policy preferences of American voters. We asked more than twelve hundred respondents detailed questions about their views on foreign policy. This follows a version of a survey which we reported on last year. The following observations are included among our study’s findings:

Americans favor a less aggressive foreign policy. The findings are consistent across a number of foreign policy issues, and across generations and party lines:–More than twice as many want to decrease as increase the defense budget;–Thirty-five percent more think America should decrease than increase its military presence in East Asia as a response to a rising China.

How To Have A Civil Debate Until Your Opponent Is Dead [Satire]

As many of you may have noticed, the country is divided. For those of you who haven’t noticed: the country is divided. On one side is a revolutionary movement to eradicate the sins of the past by replacing them with slavery, poverty and perpetual rage. On the other side are people wondering why no one will just leave them alone.

Trump Must Understand a War With Iran Would Be Hell

Sixteen years ago, the George W. Bush administration manipulated intelligence to scare the public into backing an aggressive war against Iraq.

Now the Trump administration appears to be following the same well-worn path. The president has fixated on Iran, tearing up the nuclear accord with Tehran and declaring economic war on it—as well as anyone dealing with Iran. He is pushing America toward war even as he insists that he wants peace. How stupid does he believe we are?

Thousands of dead Americans, tens of thousands of wounded and maimed U.S. personnel, hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis, and millions of Iraqis displaced. There was the sectarian conflict, destruction of the historic Christian community, the creation of Al Qaeda in Iraq—which morphed into the far deadlier Islamic State—and the enhanced influence of Iran. The prime question was how could so many supposedly smart people be so stupid?

Eroding Exceptionalism - America In Decline

American exceptionalism is the belief that the foreign policy of the United States should be unconstrained by the parochial interests or international rules which govern other countries. Writing in The Atlantic earlier this year, Jake Sullivan defines American exceptionalism as the understanding that, “despite its flaws, America possesses distinctive attributes that can be put to work to advance both the national interest and the larger common interest.” Not only is the United States uniquely equipped to divine a larger common interest, but it has the singular opportunity to pursue and protect it.

Top US General Predicts ‘Likely’ Iranian Attacks

The impeachment of Trump didn't get serious until he refused to attack Iran over the drone shootdown.

What a War Whore this individual is. An attack on Iran will be the beginning of the end for the US,military wise and economically. The dollar will be the first casualty. Oil prices will skyrocket and a worldwide depression and world war will ensue.

Months upon months of US military buildups in the Middle East, all around Iran, combined with near-constant threats to attack Iran outright have sure been raising regional tensions, but according to US Centcom commander Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, it is not believed to be deterring Iran.

Twin Towers Under Construction (19 Photos)

Skyscrapers arised in the 1880s, these were supported by an interior skeleton made of steel columns placed every 20 feet or the like. The exterior walls of the building, known as "curtain walls" because they hung from the steel frame, specifically serve to enclose the structure and also provide protection from the elements.

Photos of Remains of the Twin Towers in Hangar 17

At New York Kennedy Airport's airplane hangar, fewer than 30 pieces of steel linger from the debris recovered after the tragic 9/11 incident when terrorists hijacked planes and flew into the World Trade Center's twin towers back on Sept. 11, 2001. Even after 14 years, applications are still pending for these pieces of metal — most are for memorials and museum exhibits. Less than 70 other artifacts such as clothing or toys remain as well in Hangar 17 at Kennedy Airport.

2019 interview with Socrates: ‘Relax, humans. Virtue will win when its season comes. Neither underestimate nor overestimate your co-creative power.’ (10 of ?)

"Socrates" and I discuss that under the enormity of "official" propaganda, ordinary humans cannot discern fact from spin, or good from evil.

Humans will continue to exist as livestock for .01% psychopaths without further help.

This help might come from White Hats, an exponential growth curve yet unrecognized, or an unpredictable source. But without some breakthrough, human history is likely to continue as it has: ongoing empires using humans as work animals and slaves.
