Obama is biggest recipient of BP’s political action cash in the last 20 years

President Barack Obama is the biggest recipient of BP political action committee donations of any political candidate in the last 20 years, according to the Center for Responsive Politics and an analysis published Wednesday by Politico.

Obama's take from the company whose drilling site is leaking tens of thousands of gallons of day into the Gulf of Mexico: $77,051.

His massive take from the company responsible for an ever-growing oil spill off the Louisiana coast is sure to raise eyebrows among those who question the Administration's response to the spill.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Presidents, Senators, and Congressional Representatives are all simply "acquisitions" of those powerful corporations which will have need of their services at some point. We the People are of absolutely no consequence to them, save as an allegedly endless pool of money to be taxed.

This is simply the reality of the political beast in the US.

It will truly be interesting, in light of Obama's having been "acquired" by BP, to see the extent to which BP will be made financially responsible for the massive cleanup of the Gulf.

Worse Than 1789 ?

The French Revolution actually got off to a better start than it is remembered for. A progressive opposition put together a new legislature, the National Assembly. They undertook the writing of a constitution. But it all fell apart rather quickly since the dim-witted King and his cohorts didn't really get into that old changing times spirit and their lack of cooperation -- not to mention their decadence -- provoked the more violent factions of the common people to form that kraken of politics, the mob. What a goddamned mess it turned into -- a revolving cast of mob masters, each worse than the last, whipping up the crowds to ever more horrible enormities of human vivisection -- a political process that had gone hopelessly out of control. Despite the agile precedent of their friend, the new USA, quickly resolving its own rebellion into a functioning government of law, France opted for a bloody clusterfuck -- which went on for eight more years.

Is Pakistan the next evil doer? - Jeff Gates

Who better than the “Taliban of Pakistan” to advance the 911 narrative? The Taliban is Evil. Pakistan is Muslim. Therefore….

Who was surprised to find Pakistan associated with a “significant terrorist event” in New York? Was anyone surprised that this “car bomb” incident occurred in the same city as the last significant event? Or that news reports promptly featured the Taliban of Pakistan?

Who labeled it a significant terrorist event? A “security analyst” with IntelCenter. Visit the site and remember the old adage: Best Story Wins.

Was this a genuine terrorist event? Or was this an agent provocateur operation meant to freshen up a stale storyline: the Global War on Terrorism?

It is a measure of the inter-connected character of our globalized world that the security of New York may be tied to events in distant, rugged and mysterious South Waziristan, Pakistan– a remote area even most Pakistanis know little about. And, US security may depend more on school-building and improving lives in South Waziristan than on unmanned drone attacks on militants.

"BP Says It’ll Pay For This Mess. Baloney." BP Liability Currently Capped at Only $75 MILLION ... Menendez Bill Would Raise Liability to $10 Billion

Under the law that established the reserve, called the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund, the operators of the offshore rig face no more than $75 million in liability for the damages that might be claimed by individuals, companies or the government.

The fund was set up by Congress in 1986 but not financed until after the Exxon Valdez ran aground in Alaska in 1989. In exchange for the limits on liability, the Oil Pollution Act of 1990 imposed a tax on oil companies, currently 8 cents for every barrel they produce in this country or import.

Will Obama support democracy in Kyrgyzstan?

The Obama administration has been slow to recognize and cautious in supporting the provisional government whose method and legitimacy in taking power has been widely questioned. To be sure, it was not a peaceful democratic revolution, but this is no cause for the US to remain aloof.

The democratic activists who challenged Mr. Bakiyev’s authoritarianism had four primary demands: 1. an end to the president’s nepotism and cronyism, 2. the cessation of political persecution; 3. respect for democracy and human rights; and 4. an end to corrupt privatization of state assets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Obama administration might be less than enthusiastic about embracing the new government here because it demonstrates that when people have had enough of nepotism, cronyism, political persecution, disrespect for democracy and human rights, and privatization of public assets, they might just rise up against an unjust government as the only way possible to achieve change.

In this country, the Democrats and Republicans consistently entreat and attempt to reassure people that if only people vote for them, there will somehow, magically, be a change in the status quo for We the People.

However, intelligent observers of the American political scene understand clearly that this is not at all true.

Congress members have simply become an acquisition by the large corporations, and sometimes, the interests of foreign governments (as is the case with Israel). And the only real "party" which seems to exist is the War Party, because so many Congress members are so heavily invested in the very profitable defense industry. Those companies producing unique and varied products which kill and mutilate are very much in demand these days, as are the services of companies which provide contract mercenaries and military supplies.

Over the last 40 years, there has been a very deliberate transfer of wealth to the most wealthy, and that includes the millionaires in Congress and the Senate, who have absolutely no interest whatsoever as to what happens to their constituents, as long as their own financial agendas are served.

The high-paying jobs have been outsourced, leaving many with no way to pay the mortgage on the home loans for which they originally qualified completely. Homes are worth far less than they originally cost, leaving those home owners still standing "under water" with negative equity.

Infrastructure has been allowed to collapse; bridges, roads, levees, shorelines, hospitals, coal mines, oil rigs, and schools are all in horrendous states of disrepair, and there is no money left to fix them.

But of course, none of this really matters to our alleged Representatives in Congress.

They are completely cozy with Wall Street, as that is where a lot of their personal fortunes are made, because they have access to the best information they can possibly get. And of course, those Wall Street companies, in turn, contribute to their campaigns to keep intelligent regulation out of the industry.

And the bail-outs of the banks, etc., with public money?! That was to prevent their own fortunes from going south. What the bailout bill is going to do to you or your grandkids, financially, is none of their concern.

These consistent wars without end? Fought with public money for private profit

The war in Iraq (which shows every sign of exploding once again into horrendous violence) was about oil; yet, no American company actually got any rights to that oil.

The war in Afghanistan? Fought to "pacify" the Afghan people enough to install pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil, and of the drug trade, from which so many profit so handsomely.

The lesson of the successful Kyrgyzstan rebellion can be characterized as question which many thinking Americans are asking themselves right now.

If you continue to vote for national leadership, yet absolutely nothing changes, except for the stubborn worsening of your life because of crippling tax debt, the inability to find a decent job, further erosion of your civil liberties; if you find yourself trapped, desperately attempting to work within a system which is gamed against you; what then?!?!?

NY Bomb suspect lost Conn. home to foreclosure

The suspect in the Times Square bombing attempt defaulted on a $200,000 mortgage on his Connecticut home and the Shelton property is now in foreclosure, according to court records.

The foreclosure records show Faisal Shahzad took out the mortgage on a home in Shelton, Conn., in 2004, and he co-owned the home with a woman named Huma Mian.

Webmaster's Commentary:

While SITE and the US Government are trying to blame Pakistan or Iran or "Al Qaeda" for the failed NY bombing attempt, this is starting to look more like a repeat of the Joe Stack affair, in which a victim of the US economy strikes back.

This isn't politics; this is economics. This isn't terror, it is desperation and revenge.

BP warned of rig fault ten years ago

BP faces fresh questions over the cause of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill after it emerged that problems with the type of equipment that led to the disaster were first reported a decade ago.

In June 2000, the oil giant issued a "notice of default" to Transocean, the operator of the rig that blew up last month. The dispute was over problems with a blowout preventer, a set of iron slabs that should close out-of-control wells. It failed on the Gulf of Mexico rig, triggering the explosion and oil spill.

Transocean acknowledged at the time that the preventer did "not work exactly right". The rig in question, the Discover Enterprise, was unable to operate for extended periods while the problem was fixed.

Another week at least of unabated Gulf oil geyser

Another week of oil pouring from the seafloor. That is the best-case scenario for the Gulf Coast, where dead sea turtles washed ashore and a massive rust-colored slick continued to swell from an uncontrolled gusher spewing into the water.

BP PLC was preparing a system never tried before at such depths to siphon away the geyser of crude from a blown-out well a mile under Gulf of Mexico waters. Animation: Gulf of Mexico oil spill growth and movement

This animation of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was created using actual overflight information and forecast models from the NOAA and Unified Command.

The red dot is the location of the Deepwater Horizon oil well, which exploded on April 20, releasing oil into the Gulf near the Louisiana coast that has yet to be contained. Eleven rig workers are missing and are presumed to have died in the explosion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Setting aside the obvious nonsense about North Korean mini-subs, there is a lot of conflicting information, complicated by finger-pointing.

But what seems to have happened is ...

Deep Horizon was, as the name implied, seeking a deep oil field. The well head is 5000 feet down in the Gulf of Mexico. The well itself drilled down another 30,000 feet, for a total depth of almost 7 miles. That is the current limit of drilling and pumping technology.

The drill appears to have hit a very high pressure deposit of oil and gas. It's like the old joke of a mosquito that hits an artery and explodes. In the case of Deepwater Horizon, it appears that high pressure natural gas flowed back up the drill pipe, and being gas rather than oil, arrived back at the well head at high pressure, more than was expected, and blew out the control valves. Gas escaped above the oil rig and the first spark set it off. Attempts to close the "pinchers" have failed so far, and yesterday a classified NOAA report was leaked reporting that there are three distinct points of leakage, suggesting that the cement well cover built by Halliburton may have failed.

Already there are indications of inadequate safety precautions. Records are missing.

Estimates of how much oil is leaking vary wildly from the media reports of 5000 barrels a day up to 200,000 barrels a day. From the above animation it appears that the rate of flow is increasing.

The situation 5000 feet down at the well head is that of ruptured pipes, cracked concrete well cover, and the wreckage of the Deepwater Horizon sitting on top of it all, making access to the wellhead all but impossible.

Frankly, I doubt even a nuclear bomb could close off this vent, and we may be on our way to seeing the oil underneath the Gulf of Mexico, become the Gulf of Mexico.

The oil companies are facing their own Chernobyl disaster. But they will never admit responsibility, nor will the US politicians who shirked their duty to take care of the US infrastructure, especially in an election year. The race is on to find someone to blame for it all. Hence the stories about North Korean mini-subs, and sooner or later, "Al Qaeda!" The oil companies and the US Government are off the hook if they can claim this was a terrorist attack.

Gulf Oil Rig Fiasco: It’s About Scarcity and World Government

Obama said on Thursday he was dispatching SWAT teams to inspect oil rigs in the Gulf, a response that struck many observers as odd.

This is a public relations stunt designed to make Americans think the federal government is responding to the disaster. In fact, the government has no intention of doing anything significant. Obama’s response if purely cosmetic and for public consumption.

Oil spill disaster is now 'out of control'

The British oil giant faces questions over how much it knew about previous problems with “blowout preventers”, the giant underwater valves designed to shut down oil flow in the event of accidents.

The valves on the rig failed to work after it exploded on April 20. BP technicians have been unable to activate them even though they appear to be undamaged by the blast.

BP has calculated that it might take up to three months to sink a new well that could cut off the flow of the Deepwater Horizon’s oil.

The worst oil spill affecting US waters was caused by a 1979 blowout aboard the Ixtoc, a Mexican rig that discharged at least 130 million gallons, 600 miles south of the Texas coast. It took nine months to plug the leak.

May 02 06:36

Hurricane Season and the BP Oil Rig Disaster

Why does this matter? Because any attempt to use booms or chemicals keep the oil away from the Gulf Coast would be completely impossible in the event of a major storm entering the Gulf. The combination of high winds, storm surges and high waves would push the oil slick way inland up the bayous and onto the shelter islands that protect 40 percent of America’s wetlands. (Even a moderate wind and a chop on the water near shore was defeating the booms put in place on Friday, and rendering any attempt to burn off the oil impossible.)

BP using toxic chemicals to ‘disperse’ spilled oil

Even if the materials, called dispersants, are effective, BP has already bought up more than a third of the world’s supply. If the leak from 5,000 feet beneath the surface continues for weeks, or months, that stockpile could run out.

On Thursday BP began using the chemical compounds to dissolve the crude oil, both on the surface and deep below, deploying an estimated 100,000 gallons. Dispersing the oil is considered one of the best ways to protect birds and keep the slick from making landfall. But the dispersants contain harmful toxins of their own and can concentrate leftover oil toxins in the water, where they can kill fish and migrate great distances.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I just found an article on line regarding biomediation of oil slicks published in English by the Indian Coast Guard, written by one Dr. Pradeep Kumar, located at:

If India understands the critical importance of using bioremediation for oil spills, why doesn't BP and the US government?!?

That is more than a little scary, in terms of the long-term potential toxic effects of these dispersants.

BP documents show it did not plan for oil spill disaster at Gulf Coast rig

BP is facing a £3billion fine for the oil spill on America’s Gulf Coast which is threatening to become the worst ecological disaster in history - and is now under fire for not foreseeing the catastrophe.

Documents emerged yesterday showing BP had previously downplayed the possibility of a catastrophic accident at the rig.

It suggested in a 2009 exploration plan and environmental impact analysis for the well that an accident leading to a giant oil spill – and damage to beaches, fish and animals – was unlikely or virtually impossible.

Louisiana oil spill may be five times bigger than previously thought

The view from space indicates that the oil may be leaking at a rate of 25,000 barrels a day, dwarfing the figure of 5,000 barrels that US officials and the British oil giant BP have used in recent days.

That would mean that some nine million gallons may already have escaped from the underwater well following the April 20 explosion that killed 11 rig workers. It suggests the disaster will almost certainly prove greater than the Exxon Valdez tanker spill off Alaska in 1989, which released 11 million gallons and was the worst previous spill at sea.

The next 9/11 – made in Israel?

Maidhc Ó Cathail views the evidence indicating that dual loyalty officials in the US administration are funnelling American nuclear secrets not only to Israel, but also to terrorist organizations in order to facilitate a “nuclear 9/11” and a massive US attack against Iran or Pakistan.

”If, as Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu admitted, 9/11 was ‘very good’ for Israel, a nuclear 9/11 might be even better. As the spellbinding effects of that traumatic event nine years ago have begun to wear off, and with Americans increasingly questioning the costs of a one-sided alliance [with Israel], it may even be considered necessary.”

Drilling Process Attracts Scrutiny in Rig Explosion

The scrutiny on cementing will focus attention on Halliburton Co., the oilfield-services firm that was handling the cementing process on the rig, which burned and sank last week. The disaster, which killed 11, has left a gusher of oil streaming into the Gulf from a mile under the surface.

According to Transocean Ltd., the operator of the drilling rig, Halliburton had finished cementing the 18,000-foot well shortly before the explosion. Houston-based Halliburton is the largest company in the global cementing business, which accounted for $1.7 billion, or about 11%, of the company's revenue in 2009, according to consultant Spears & Associates.

Atlantis, which began production in October 2007, has the capacity to produce about 8.4 million gallons of oil and 180 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.

Honda recalls 167,000 Acura TSX for possible fire hazard

Honda Motor Company's luxury vehicle division Acura announced Friday a recall of some 167,000 Acura TSX models to replace a power steering hose that could lead to a "smoke or a fire" hazard.

"Affected TSX vehicles are 2004-2008 models sold in the United States with the 2.4L inline 4-cylinder engine," a company statement said, adding that the repair "involves installing a new power steering hose, o-ring gasket and fluid."

Honda said the hose has a potential "for premature deterioration... as a result of prolonged exposure to high under-hood temperatures" and could develop cracks allowing power steering fluid to leak on the hot exhaust system "potentially generating smoke or a fire."

The repair, it added, will be "all done at no cost to the vehicle owner."

Document: BP didn't plan for major oil spill; asserted adverse environmental impacts unlikely

British Petroleum downplayed the possibility of a catastrophic accident at an offshore oil rig that exploded and caused the worst U.S. spill in decades along the Gulf Coast.

In its 52-page exploration plan and environmental impact analysis for the well, BP repeatedly suggested it was unlikely, or virtually impossible, for an accident to occur that would lead to a giant crude oil spill and serious damage to beaches, fish, mammals and fisheries.

The U.S. Coast Guard estimates the mile-deep well is spewing 200,000 gallons per day.

Quite apart from his dismissal of the power of the pro-Israel lobby and, consequently, the role of Congress which I have found to be the foremost obstacle in trying to educate people around that issue, Chomsky’s opposition to BDS, (what he now describes as qualified support) and his ongoing efforts to dissuade people from using the term, apartheid, to describe Israel’s control over Palestinian society, should raise serious questions about Chomsky’s judgment, not to mention that his reason for opposing the Palestinian right of return and a one-state solution is identical to that of most liberal Zionists, i.e., that it would lead to Jews becoming a minority in that single state.

Massive oil spill in Gulf of Mexico nears landfall

A massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico neared wildlife refuges and seafood grounds along the Louisiana coast on Friday, as efforts redoubled to avert what could become one of the worst U.S. ecological disasters.

President Barack Obama pledged on Thursday to "use every single available resource" to contain the oil slick and the U.S. military ratcheted up operations.

The leak from a ruptured oil well on the ocean floor off the coast of the southern state is pouring out crude oil at a rate of up to 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons or 955,000 liters) a day, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration -- five times more oil than previously thought.

Guess who WILL pay for this when all is said and done?

We saw the hordes back in 2006 brazenly walk the streets shouting for non existent rights. Regardless of what activist judges who should have been removed from the bench by Congress say, since an individual has no right to be on U.S. soil, they don't have constitutional rights. It doesn't matter how loud they scream or how many media mouthpieces in print and cable support these criminals, it doesn't change legal facts. Humane treatment during detention and then deportation.

"Avatar" dominates video sales, rental charts

In the most lopsided home-video victory in recent memory, "Avatar" catapulted to the top of all three national video charts during its first week in stores.

The top-grossing theatrical film of all time sold 6.7 million units in its first four days of release, 2.7 million of them on Blu-ray Disc.

According to the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, the next biggest-selling release of the week was "Crazy Heart," which sold just 5 percent as many copies as "Avatar," followed by "The Lovely Bones," which finished at No. 3 with 2.9 percent of "Avatar's" sales.

The video that won the Acadamy Award (what was it called? something about hurt) was a no show.

Military may join fight to contain Gulf oil slick

BP Plc on Thursday welcomed an offer from the Defense Department to help contain a massive growing oil slick from a deadly rig explosion that threatens the shoreline of four Gulf states.

But they are struggling to control the slick from the leaking well 5,000 feet under the sea off Louisiana's coast, which the Coast Guard said late on Wednesday was spilling five times more oil than previously estimated.

"We're going to do everything we can to minimize the impact of this event," Suttles said. As owner of the well, BP is financially responsible for the cleanup.
