House approves bill allowing conceal and carry across state lines

The House of Representatives voted yesterday on a conceal and carry bill that could have a huge impact on interstate truckers who drive with firearms for personal protection. House Passes Monumental Gun Rights Bill- The “Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act” was passed yesterday by a 231-198 margin. This is the first movement by lawmakers under Trump to fulfill the president’s campaign promises to promote and protect gun rights. Trump campaigned on conceal and carry reciprocity, writing in a position paper published before he was elected, “The right of self – defense doesn’t stop at the end of your driveway. That’s why I have a concealed carry permit and why tens of millions of Americans do too. That permit should be valid in all 50 states. A driver’s license works in every state, so it’s common sense that a concealed carry permit should work in every state.

THOUSANDS MARCH IN TEL AVIV TO PROTEST AGAINST NETANYAHU, CORRUPTION, AGAIN

Thousands of Israelis protested in Tel Aviv on Saturday for the second consecutive week against government corruption and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is under criminal investigation over allegations of abuse of office.

Police estimated the number of demonstrators at about 10,000 and they followed last Saturday’s demonstration, which was by far the largest of the recent weekly anti-corruption protests when an estimated 20,000 people participated.

The protests have been sparked by corruption allegations against Netanyahu, who denies any wrongdoing. The four-term leader is suspected of involvement in two cases.

The first involves receiving gifts from wealthy businessmen and the second involves negotiating a deal with a newspaper owner for better coverage in return for curbs on a rival daily.

If charged, he would come under heavy pressure to resign or could call an election to test whether he still had a mandate to govern.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Netanyahu does not care about his alleged "mandate to govern"; all he cares about is military power, and is obsessed with "legacy", whatever that means to him.

IF there is a "snap election" in Israel, expect it to be more crooked than is a dog's hind leg, in order to keep him in power.

Massive election-rigging is not a totally American process.

In Jerusalem, 3 Religions Collide and Violence Is Never Far Away

***
The issue of the US embassy being moved to Jerusalem or even US recognition of Jerusalem has been raised at election time in America for decades.

It served as a diversion or smokescreen concealing the establishment and expansion of Israeli settlements in Palestinian neighbourhoods in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Though Israeli governments regularly raised the issue as one of their grievances, it never seemed to be a major concern.

'They Aren't Wanted Here': Israeli Defense Minister Calls for Boycott of Arabs

According to the Israeli defense minister, residents of the Jewish state's area populated mostly by Arabs "have no connection with this country."

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has stated that the Arabs residing in the Wadi Ara region "do not belong" to the Jewish state and called for a boycott.

"They should understand that they are not wanted here, they are not part of us," the minister told the Army Radio.

Commenting on Saturday's protests in the region over US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Jewish state's capital, Lieberman said that Wadi Ara residents "have no connection with this country," adding that the riots are "intolerable."

P.C.Roberts: Avoiding Nuclear War Is Our First Priority

***
Trump’s election was like Reagan’s. He appealed to the people instead of to the ruling interest groups. As a high official in Reagan’s government who was aligned with Reagan’s goals to end stagflation and the Cold War, I experienced first hand the cost of going against the powerful interest groups that are accustomed to ruling. We took part of their rule away from them, but now they have taken it back. And they are now stronger than before. Essentially, Trump is powerless and is limited to expressing his frustrations on Twitter.

In my opinion, the lesson being dealt to Trump will teach any future presidential candidate not to challenge the ruling oligarchy by appealing to the American people.

This means that democracy in America is stone dead. I sometimes wonder if democracy can be revived without violent revolution, and of course revolutions can go wrong.

Are Americans capable of violent revolution? If they are not, will the greedy elites remain in control until they stumble into a nuclear war?

Who is Saakashvili? The wunderkind elected in 2004 in Tbilisi after a "Rose Revolution" we backed during George W. Bush’s crusade for global democracy.

During the Beijing Olympics in August 2008, Saakashvili sent his army crashing into the tiny enclave of South Ossetia, which had broken free of Georgia when Georgia broke free of Russia.

Trump Forfeits US Mideast Mediator Role, Russia Should Step In

President Donald Trump’s announcement this week that the US is henceforth recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will have many harmful repercussions for the entire Middle East.

But out of the ashes of US policy, something better can arise. Russia should step in to give badly needed leadership.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was among many world leaders who warned that Trump’s intervention will likely derail peace prospects, not just for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict but for the region as a whole.

Palestinians, Arabs and Muslim nations are infuriated by what they see as Trump’s betrayal of a righteous cause for Palestinian statehood, with East Jerusalem being the future capital of that state.

By declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel, Trump is effectively pre-empting any negotiated settlement to a conflict which has raged for 70 years.

POLICE HOMICIDES IN THE UNITED STATES

The killings of Michael Brown, Eric Garner and Walter Scott have increased the world’s attention to US police violence, yet most Americans underestimate the threat posed by the people charged with keeping them safe.

Let’s turn to the facts.

There is no national registry of civilians killed by police and corrections officers in the United States. Several states, including Texas, Connecticut and California, maintain complete records, but in most parts of the United States, local law enforcement chooses whether to report officer-involved homicides to the federal government. The lack of systematic data poses a challenge both for those who wish to hold police accountable for their actions and for those who want to propose reform measures to reduce police violence. How many killings are committed by police?

BLACK WOMAN GETS PROBATION FOR KIDNAPPING WHITE MENTALLY ILL MAN TORTURED ON FACEBOOK LIVE

After nearly a year in Cook County Jail in Illinois, 19-year-old Brittany Covington was freed on four years of probation after a plea deal was reached Friday.

Covington, a black woman, had been charged with a hate crime and kidnapping in connection to the torture of a white mentally ill man. From December 31, 2016 to January 2, 2017, Covington and three other black defendants, including her older sister Tanishia Covington, Tesfaye Cooper and Jordan Hill, all held the mentally ill victim in the Covingtons’ apartment.

Brittany narrated multiple graphic Facebook Live videos showing the man being hit and kicked, having his clothes cut off with a knife, being forced to drink from a toilet, and being ordered to say, “I love black people.” He was also called a supporter of then-President-elect Donald Trump. Her probation bars her from contacting Cooper or Hill or using social media. The other three defendants’ plea deals are being negotiated.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: this kind of horrific, morally inexcusable behaviour, has just been given a pass, and a blessing from the Illinois court.

In light of the reality that this kind of brutal behaviour has been "normalized" by this plea deal, were I a resident of that state right now , I would be moving out, just as fast as my car could (legally) take me; the Illinois judiciary has just added another component to the reality that living in this state can be very hazardous to one's health.

I would also be very clear in letting Governor Bruce Rauner understand as to why you were moving, and taking your tax base elsewhere.

PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS: AMERICA IS "WALKING INTO ARMAGEDDON"

The orchestrated hostility toward Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea protects the $1,000 billion annual budget of the military/security complex by convincing the American public that the US is threatened by enemies. It also keeps alive Democratic Party hopes that Trump can be removed from office, and it has prevented President Trump from normalizing relations with Russia. I have emphasized for some time that Washington’s gratuitous and aggressive actions against Russia and the constant barrage of false accusations against Russia and its government have convinced Russia that Washington is planning a military attack. There is nothing more reckless and irresponsible than to convince a nuclear superpower that you are preparing an attack on them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A major war is coming, based on the reality that the Elites of this country, who despise true justice, and want the financial favors to come to "Just Us" (meaning them) have rigged the financial system to the point of near-collapse, so need a major war to attempt to distract most Americans from the coming financial debacle.

A magician would use the term "misdirection", but this industrial strenth codswallop, getting force-fed to the American people, courtesy of the corporate prestitutes and whorespondents, about the ongoing "threats" this country faces are, most generally, narratives to push the war agenda.

And if, in fact, the Occupied, Unhinged, Surveilled States of America lose this next war, the US government, and its lacadaisical attitude toward its weapons manufacturers, will be be squarely to blame.

The world has seen the sterling success of Russia's weaponry and tactics in Syria, and are beating a path to its door to acquire those weapons.

Unfortunately, the culture of US weapons manufacturers has been coddled by the US government and military, to the point where their CEOS think it is perfectly fine to deliver weapons that do not work; are obsolete by the time they are delivered and field tested; and are horrifically overpriced.

This has to change, and immediately, before the US ever regains its tactical advantage with its weaponry again; unfortunately, that is not going to happen before the next major regional, or world war, happens, and our military are, once more, going to be left in the lurch because of what has become "acceptible and standard" practice by the US govenment and military.
