Israeli lawfare “backfires” in New Zealand

An Israeli lawfare group tied to the Mossad, Israel’s deadly spy agency, announced in January it was suing two activists in New Zealand who encouraged pop singer Lorde to cancel a performance in Tel Aviv scheduled for June.

However, the activists, Justine Sachs and Nadia Abu-Shanab, told The Electronic Intifada Podcast that they have not received any official notice that they are being sued.

Since Sachs and Abu-Shanab are in New Zealand, and were exercising their free speech rights there, it is difficult to see how any Israeli judgment could be enforced.

Lorde, also from New Zealand, had called the cancellation of her gig “the right decision.”

The lawsuit was reportedly filed in Israel by the lawfare group Shurat HaDin under a 2011 law that allows Israelis to sue those who call for a boycott of Israel or its settlements built illegally on occupied Palestinian land.

The law is part of Israel’s effort to stifle speech and activism in support of Palestinian rights.

International Solidarity Movement tour conveys Palestinian trauma to a stunned US audience

The other night in Brooklyn, I caught two activists from the International Solidarity Movement, Rana Nazzal and Joe Catron, describing their work in Palestine to 70 people crowded into the Commons Cafe. The tour continues tonight in Syracuse and on to many other venues in Canada and the States (and at times includes our own artist Katie Miranda). I would urge anyone who wishes to understand the depth of the conflict to catch one of these appearances.

The tour is noteworthy because it conveys to Americans, in the most unrhetorical manner, some small portion of the immense trauma that Palestinians are experiencing. Two activists come to the stage and speak plainly about their experience. Both began these talks with videos, and both videos– as the activists warned us– contained film of a Palestinian being shot and killed by Israeli soldiers.

We must end the manipulation of history

I support a free Palestine and I believe in the Palestinian right to live a peaceful, safe and productive life. It must happen and soon! I reject all forms of racism and hate and I condemn without reservation the brutality and cruelty of Zionist colonization and a 70-year-old agenda to refuse the rights of Palestinians to live in peace on their own land.

Dear Senator Harris, You have been drinking the pro-Israel Kool-Aid

Dear Senator Harris,

I am an 81-year old resident of Alameda County and I have lived here for 19 years. I grew up in the U.S. northeast and in France, and I have also lived in Scotland and Israel. I am Jewish and I am a committed Palestinian solidarity activist.

It therefore pains me to know that you have been drinking the pro-Israel Kool-Aid. With your international background – not to mention your law degree (I come from a family of lawyers) – I would have thought that you might have understood the brutal reality that is today’s Israel. Your pandering March 28, 2017 speech in front of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) was a disgrace which only reflected and highlighted your ignorance and your willful blindness to the brutal and grotesque reality that is today’s State of Israel. Unfortunately, your recent 2018 remarks to AIPAC have not yet been made public.

Opinion: The Israeli Army Committed at Least 4 War Crimes in Recent Weeks. But Who Cares?

In the corruption whirlwind of the past few weeks, who even had time to respond seriously to war crimes in the territories, among them the recent incident in Jericho? We’re talking about another episode that was pushed to the margins and faded away among the army’s varying and vague versions of events – all aimed at avoiding prosecution of the Israel Defense Forces soldiers who were filmed beating and abusing a wounded Palestinian whom one of them had shot.

Yasin al-Saradih, a 36-year-old Palestinian, was shot on February 22 when he tried to attack a group of soldiers with the rim of a car wheel with an iron bar stuck through it. He was immobilized and no longer posed a threat to the armed soldiers. But this didn’t stop them from attacking a man wallowing in his own blood, beating and dragging him into a nearby alley. For half an hour he lay there with no medical assistance before being evacuated, after one of the soldiers fired a tear-gas canister into the alley where he lay.

Israeli town halts property sales after realizing most buyers were Palestinians

A town in the Galilee region of Israel has suspended future building tenders for a 2,200-household residential development after its mayor learned that around half of the buyers were Palestinians.

The town of Kfar Vradim was established in 1984 by billionaire Israeli Stef Wertheimer, one of the richest people in the world.

Kfar Vradim is built on land annexed from the nearby Palestinian village of Tarshiha. Part of the land being developed in Kfar Vradim is owned by Palestinians in Tarshiha.

The Israeli government has long sought to increase the number of Jewish residents in the Galilee, where Palestinians remained a sizeable population after the Nakba, the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in 1948.

This has been achieved by building Jewish colonies on land belonging to Palestinian communities, preventing the natural growth and the establishment of new Palestinian towns and villages.

Poland censors Israeli mayor who sought to cite Polish Holocaust crimes at event

A bitter dispute between Jerusalem and Warsaw over a controversial Holocaust law reached new heights on Monday, as an Israeli mayor was forced to cancel a speech he was planning to deliver to Israeli high school students on a trip to Poland after local authorities censored his prepared remarks ... Before Dukorsky could deliver his address, the Radomsko municipality asked to go over his speech in light of a new law criminalizing the mention of complicity by the Polish state or nation in the Holocaust ... "We reject any attempt at censorship," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon. "We support the mayor's right to make his speech as planned and not omit any word, not even a single letter."

A Palestinian teenager arrested after slapping an Israeli soldier has accepted a plea deal that will see her serve eight months in prison.
Ahed Tamimi had agreed to plead guilty to four of the 12 charges she faced, including assault, her lawyer said.
She will also pay a fine of 5,000 shekels ($1,440) and accept a further eight-month jail term, suspended.
The 17 year old was detained after being filmed confronting two armed soldiers outside her home in December.

Israel needs to kick out 450 elderly people to make room for new US embassy

Israeli authorities would need to relocate some 450 USSR immigrants, many of whom are in their 80s, from a plot of land to facilitate the construction of a new US embassy. And there is no solution in sight.

The plot in Jerusalem’s predominantly Jewish Arnona neighborhood is owned by the United States and currently accommodates an American consulate, which will soon be promoted to embassy status. This is scheduled to happen on May 14, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of Israel’s declaration of independence, although red tape may force a postponement, according to local media.

Who Wants To Kill Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah?

Although reconciliation efforts have, for years, been halfhearted at best, the latest round of talks between both groups led to a breakthrough in Cairo last October. This time, Palestinians were told that the two factions are keen on establishing unity, ending the siege on Gaza and revamping the largely dormant Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) institutions.

Hamas and the Islamic Jihad were to join the PLO at some point in the future, leading to the formulation of a unified Palestinian political program.

And, perhaps, this keenness at ending the rift has led to the attempt on Hamdallah’s life.

Top US General Says American Troops Should Be Ready To Die For Israel

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same..." This is the oath of enlistment that every American military service member or federal employee takes upon entry into government service (with slight variation for commissioned officers).

With the largest joint U.S.-Israeli air defense exercise ever conducted having recently concluded, which involved over 2,500 American service personnel, and in the midst of heightened Israeli involvement in the Syrian war, we find ourselves asking...

Are US troops ready to fight and to die for America’s Israel's defense? ...We think not, but there are US generals out there enthusiastically promoting the idea.

SANHEDRIN INVITES ARABS TO JOIN 3RD TEMPLE PROJECT

The newly reconstituted Sanhedrin in Israel, the re-creation of the ancient legal council, is inviting Arabs to prepare for their role in the construction of a Third Temple, as the Bible prophesies.

A letter prepared by rabbis, a copy of which was obtained for Breaking Israel News by Adam Eliyahu Berkowitz, explains “the time has come to rebuild the Temple on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem in its ancient place.”

The letter from the “biblically mandated court of 71 elders” was in Hebrew, English and Arabic and invites “the Arabs as the sons of Ishmael to take their role in supporting the Third Temple as prophesied by Isaiah.”

Ishmael, in the Bible, is the first son of Abraham, by his wife’s maid, Hagar. Abraham is the patriarch of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Isaac was the second son, and Judaism and Christianity trace roots through him. Islam claims its heritage through Ishmael.

Bearing witness to Israel’s crimes

Israel has expropriated a natural spring in the occupied West Bank village of al-Walaja, making off-limits a site long used by Palestinian residents for picnicking and swimming.

I have only been to al-Walaja twice. On the first occasion, in 2006, I was a volunteer with the YMCA of Palestine, helping to harvest olives from fields that al-Walaja’s Palestinian farmers could no longer access without threat of arrest or worse due to their proximity to Israeli settlements.

On that occasion two soldiers from the Israeli army turned up. They were pleasant; they seemed amused at our presence – eccentric foreigner “do-gooders” come to help the undeserving. They stayed but 20 minutes and left with a smile and a laugh.

A week later the fields we had harvested were declared a “closed military zone” by arbitrary edict of the occupation. No one, except those who could obtain an authorized military permit, could now access them.

Three Israeli nationals removed from Turkish Airlines plane, interrogated after falsely claiming to be carrying explosives.

ed note–a textbook case of the nature of ‘the Jewish problem’ and why it–along with its inevitable by-product, ‘anti-Shemitism’–has existed for thousands of years. Whether it is Jews making jokes about bringing bombs on board an airliner and all the disruption that this causes or whether it is a penniless nomad named Abram selling his wife into sexual slavery under the false pretext that she was his ‘sister’, the adherents of this peculiar cult mindset never seem to figure out that engaging in such behavior is (A) unacceptable, and (B) likely to result in negative backlash against them.

US smooths Israel’s path to annexing West Bank

Seemingly unrelated events all point to a tectonic shift in which Israel has begun preparing the ground to annex the occupied Palestinian territories.

Last week, during an address to students in New York, Israel’s education minister Naftali Bennett publicly disavowed even the notion of a Palestinian state. “We are done with that,” he said. “They have a Palestinian state in Gaza.”

Later in Washington, Bennett, who heads Israel’s settler movement, said Israel would manage the fallout from annexing the West Bank, just as it had with its annexation of the Syrian Golan in 1980.

International opposition would dissipate, he said. “After two months it fades away and 20 years later and 40 years later, [the territory is] still ours.”

Back home, Israel has proven such words are not hollow.

Chief rabbi calls black people ‘monkeys’

The Sephardic chief rabbi of Israel called black people “monkeys” during his weekly sermon on Saturday evening.

Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef was addressing Jewish legal aspects of the blessing on seeing fruit trees blossoming, during the current Hebrew month of Nissan, and, specifically, whether one should bless one tree or at least two.

In that context, he mentioned a blessing uttered upon seeing an “unusual creature,” citing the example of encountering a black person who has two white parents on the street in America.

In footage aired by the Ynet news site, Yosef could be seen referring to black people by the pejorative Hebrew word “kushi,” and then going on to term a black person a “monkey.”

His office told Ynet that the comparison was a quote from the Talmud.

Yosef has been known to court controversy in his sermons.

The Israeli army quietly conducted a military exercise last week that simulated a multi-front war where Russia intervened to prevent Israel from attacking Syria, Haaretz reports. Haaretz noted that Israel prepared for the scenario in which a war with Hezbollah in Lebanon would require the Israeli military to fight on other fronts — most likely Syria — where Hezbollah retains a significant military presence.

How Britain Destroyed the Palestinian Homeland

When I was a child growing up in a Gaza refugee camp, I looked forward to November 2. On that day, every year, thousands of students and camp residents would descend upon the main square of the camp, carrying Palestinian flags and placards, to denounce the Balfour Declaration.

Truthfully, my giddiness then was motivated largely by the fact that schools would inevitably shut down and, following a brief but bloody confrontation with the Israeli army, I would go home early to the loving embrace of my mother, where I would eat a snack and watch cartoons.

At the time, I had no idea who Balfour actually was, and how his "declaration" all those years ago had altered the destiny of my family and, by extension, my life and the lives of my children as well.

Americans have a constitutional right to boycott Israel

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) concluded its annual policy conference last week with a lobbying day on Capitol Hill. High on its legislative agenda was advocating for bills that would penalise Americans for engaging in their First Amendment-protected right to boycott for Palestinian rights.

AIPAC conference attendees pressed their elected officials to support the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, sponsored by Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD). The original, draconian version of this bill, unveiled at last year's AIPAC conference, proposed to jail individuals for 20 years if they advanced an international organization's call for a boycott of Israel, or even of products from its illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Nikki Haley Makes Good on Threat: No Aid For Voting Against Jerusalem

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley is making good on her threat to cut US aid to countries that vote against the US in the United Nations.

In December, 128 countries voted in the United Nations General Assembly against the United States’ recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. At the time, President Trump and Haley threatened that there would be grave repercussions for recipients of US aid who failed to stand by their benefactor on such issues.

On Thursday, Foreign Policy reported on a 53-page memo issued by Haley. Titled “America First Foreign Assistance Policy”, the new policy will make good on that threat.

“It is the opinion of the U.S. mission to the U.N. that all U.S. foreign assistance should be reevaluated to ensure that taxpayers dollars are spent to advance U.S. interests, not to fund foreign legacy programs that provide little or no return on investment,” the memo read.

Exclusive: Does Israel Have Chemical Weapons Too?

Syria’s reported use of chemical weapons is threatening to turn the civil war there into a wider conflict. But the Bashar al-Assad government may not be the only one in the region with a nerve gas stockpile. A newly discovered CIA document indicates that Israel likely built up a chemical arsenal of its own.

It is almost universally believed in intelligence circles here in Washington that Israel possesses a stockpile of several hundred fission nuclear weapons, and perhaps even some high-yield thermonuclear weapons. Analysts believe the Israeli government built the nuclear stockpile in the 1960s and 1970s as a hedge against the remote possibility that the armies of its Arab neighbors could someday overwhelm the Israeli military. But nuclear weapons are not the only weapon of mass destruction that Israel has constructed.

Will Israeli Policies Change If Netanyahu Leaves Office?

Netanyahu, who is currently being charged with multiple cases of corruption, misuse of government funds and public office, has, for years, epitomized the image of Israel internationally.

In Israel, Netanyahu has masterfully kept his rightwing Likud Party at the center of power. Even if as part of larger coalitions – as is often the case in the formation of most of Israeli governments – the Likud, under Netanyahu, has shaped Israeli politics and foreign policy for many years.

As Israel’s Jewish population continues to move to the right, the country’s political ideology has been repeatedly redefined in the last two decades.

Now, a negligible eight percent of Israeli Jews see themselves as leftwing, while a whopping 37 percent consider themselves rightwing. Although 55 percent see themselves as center, the term itself does not represent what political centers traditionally do in other countries.

Yesterday, students, campus workers, and allies from across the University of California system were in Los Angeles to call on the UC Regents to listen to student voices and divest university funds from corporations that profit from human rights abuses against the Palestinian people. Following the UC Regents’ signing of the United Nations’ Principles for Responsible Investments in 2014 and clear votes in support of divestment by the University of California Student Association (UCSA), UC Graduate Student Worker Union (UAW 2865), and Student Governments on eight out of nine UC campuses, students are demanding the UC Regents ensure that the UCs reflect the values we all hold dear: freedom, justice, and equality.

Gilad Atzmon Needs Your Immediate Support!

I am being sued for libel in the High Court in England by Campaign Against Antisemitsm’s chairman Gideon Falter. I have made the decision to fight this crucial battle for freedom of expression even though this fight poses a real risk of bankrupting me and my family.

I choose to fight their suit because I believe that the CAA and its chairman and its use of libel laws pose a danger to freedom of speech and the future of this country as an open society. Enough is enough!

Mr. Falter has sued me for comments I made on my own website.

My comments were made in the context of expressing my opinion about the situation where, last July, The British Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) attested that there had been no increase in anti-Semitism in Britain, and Gideon Falter and the CAA refused to accept the CPS’s verdict. Falter and the CAA insisted that anti Semitism was on the rise. Sky news reported on the discrepancies between the findings of CPS and the CAA.

How Facebook protects Israel

The Israeli authorities are exerting pressure on Facebook to comply with more of their demands.

Earlier this month, members of Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, discussed how to suppress content of which they disapproved on the social media website.

One objective was to get Facebook to ban pictures of Ahmad Nasser Jarrar, a Palestinian extrajudicially executed by the Israeli army in February. Human rights groups have concluded that the military sought to kill, rather than arrest, Jarrar, a suspect in the shooting death of an Israeli settler in the occupied West Bank.

Uri Maklev, an Israeli lawmaker, claimed there is a “correlation between social networks and terror operations,” and that “Facebook is responsible for what is being done on its platform” and must do “everything to remove such content.”

According to Israel’s state attorney office, the Israeli government requests an average of 12,000 cases of content to be removed from Facebook each year.

Like Trump, EU aids theft of Jerusalem

The West’s policies on Palestine can be divided into two broad categories: the mindless and the misleading.

By deciding to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Donald Trump has behaved in a mindless manner. The most plausible explanation for why the US president did so is that acting like a pyromaniac endears him to his pro-Israel campaign bankroller Sheldon Adelson and to an extremist – mainly Christian – constituency.

Despite his propensity for telling lies, Trump has been more honest on this particular dossier than the European Union and its robotic representatives. They claim to be pursuing peace and a two-state solution, while aiding Israeli authorities that have no interest in either objective.

Scientific research has been accorded a high priority in cooperation between Israel and the EU. Israel is an active participant in Horizon 2020, an EU scheme aimed at encouraging innovation, which has been earmarked almost $100 billion over a seven-year period.

The EU maintains a web of military relations, weapons research, banking transactions and settlement trade with Israeli companies, banks and institutions that are deeply implicated in human rights violations.

Israel issued its first condemnation of the use of a military-grade nerve agent in the poisoning of a former Russian spy and his daughter in England, though failed to mention Russia by name in its statement.

"Israel views with gravity the event which took place in Great Britain and condemns it vigorously. We hope that the international community will cooperate in order to avoid such further events," the statement from the Foreign Ministry read.

Britain asked for an official condemnation, though Israel only issued its Russia-free statement after a delay.

Neocon Specter of John Bolton Looms Over Trump White House

John Bolton as National Security Adviser, with Nikki Haley in Bolton’s old job at the U.N. and fundamentalist Christian dominionist Mike Pompeo moving from CIA director to replace Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State, means that the neocons — never happy with the prospects of a Trump administration – will, once again, be in the driver’s seat of American foreign policy after a nine-year hiatus. Bolton’s tenure at the U.N. was punctuated by his own undiplomatic outbursts, as well as those of his spokesman, Richard Grenell, Trump’s nominee to be US ambassador to Germany. Bolton strenuously pushed the neocon foreign policy line, as spelled out in the charter for the movement founded in 1997, the Project for the New American Century (PNAC).

Return of the Neo-Cons: Mike Pompeo and the Death of Diplomacy

Secretary Tillerson was far from an ideal choice, but his anointed successor at the State Department – Mike Pompeo – may ditch diplomacy all together and start a war!

We both attended West Point. That’s where the commonalities end. I’ve been a soldier opposed to (endless) war; he’ll be a statesman opposed to peace. That should give us cause for pause.

So who is Mike Pompeo? The short answer: a startlingly hawkish Tea Party Republican oilman with a penchant for combative rhetoric and a near hysterical hatred for Iran. But he’s smart – valedictorian of his West Point class and a graduate of Harvard – and that makes him even more dangerous. His primary qualification, though, is his loyalty and propensity for mind-melding with his boss, Donald Trump. For the last year, he often personally delivered Trump’s presidential daily briefing (PDB) at the White House each morning and they agree on just about everything; as Trump says of Pompeo: "we’re always on the same wavelength."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Under Pompeo's watch, we may well be looking at more wars, until we wind up in a war with Russia.

I would not be surprised at seeing an attempt at the reinstitution of the draft in this country, this time, coming for our young women as well as our young men.

GOP Leaders Want to Delay Yemen War Powers Vote

Expectations are that the Senate War Powers vote on the Yemen War, SJ Res 54, will come up for debate and a vote next week. That may not happen if the Republican leadership gets its way, however, as many are opposed to the bill, and are trying to stall a vote.

Some leaders are arguing the issue is too “divisive,” and that the matter should be sent back to a committee for closer study. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN), by contrast, endorsed the Pentagon’s argument, saying the US does so much military engagement around the world that it would be dangerous to think the War Powers Act could apply to all of it.

But of course the whole point of the War Powers Act is that it does apply to any commitment of US forces overseas. It’s just that in recent years, presidents have relied on catch-all authorizations with vague limits to join some wars, and other times simply assumed Congress wouldn’t mind, as they generally have not minded.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reality of this situation is, having armed, and provided guidance and mid-air refueling to the Saudi military, the US government has colluded in Saudi war crimes in Yemen:

There is nothing "divisive" about this; it is as real a statement of fact as are all the other horrible facts about this sordid military campaign in Yemen, 3 years on, and with no resolution in sight:

Saudi coalition killed hundreds of children in Yemen, confidential UN report claims

Because Yemen cannot grow its own food, and it has to be imported, the Saudis, with US military assistance, have blockaded the ports, meaning that malnutrition is causing death, and a massive health crisis for the country.

Cholera (perhaps weaponised?!?) and diptheria now haunt Yemen:
Images: Yemen malnutrition has generated a cholera crisis

The skyrocketing increase in massive fetal abnormalites, cancers and stillbirths in Yemen indicate that the Saudis have used depleted uranium, with the predictable results on Yemen's children:

Image: Yemeni child exposed to du in the womb (image courtesy of RUPTLY

In my world, the poisoning of a child in the womb with this atrocious weapon, is criminal and inhuman beyond belief. And what gets me, is that the man who ordered this campaign, is not at all an uneducated man; Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, is very bright, university educated, has a law degree, and wound up 2nd in his class.

But could his hatred of the Iranian Shiias, who are acting as advisors to the Houthi rebels, be so great as to compel him to order the death, by direct military assaults; starvation, and disease, of non-combatants, and Yemen's children?!?

Sadly, the short answer here is "Yes"; and as a Christian pacifist activist, I will have to continue to bear witness to these atrocities on this site as long as I have breath.

When you destroy the children of a country, you destroy that country's future.

History will not be kind to this man; I understand that he is known by many honorifics in Saudi Arabia, because he is Saudi royalty.

History, however, will remember him as the Butcher of Yemen.

Senator Corker, the US government has to stop this madness; as you are perfectly aware, according to our Constitution, only Congress can declare war. It has not done so in Yemen.

I don't know what your portfolio holds in terms of weapons stocks, but I do know approximately, your net worth: Google has scrubbed the articles on this, but there are always other places to go to find such facts:

Senator Corker Undervalued his Wealth by Millions The story, from 2015, stated the following:

And Senator Schatz, whose office I called last week, to encourage you to vote for this bill, you, sir, owe me a return phone call!

Or have your alleged constituents with a point of view on this war different from that of your own, become....expendable and irrelevant in the State of Hawaii?!?

Just checking, sir.

AIPAC is suddenly getting a lot of bad press, in Jewish papers and ‘Washington Post’

One of the pleasurable surprises of the AIPAC conference early this month — the conclave of the leading Israel lobby group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee — was how much bad press the organization got. It’s becoming almost fashionable to criticize the lobby group for its enforcement of lockstep political support for Israel in Washington, and for its Soviet-style policy on access by the press.

These criticism are finally showing up in the mainstream press. The press has been licensed by the damage done to another powerful lobby group, the National Rifle Association, by mere high school students. It senses the same on-the-path-to-pariah status may await AIPAC, more than a decade after Walt and Mearsheimer published their book The Israel Lobby.

How Israel is becoming the world’s top cyber superpower

Although Israel makes no cars of its own, the world's top auto-security companies are all Israeli. The country also receives roughly one-fifth of the world's global private investment in cyber security. As independent and state-sponsored hackers wreak havoc, Israel continues to revolutionize its military and lead the way in the field.

To start, the Israeli Defense Force recruits the best and brightest coders and hackers as teens, to funnel them into their elite cyber warfare units.

“Because going to the service is compulsory, you can look at the Israeli army as the largest HR organization in the world,” said Roni Zehavi, the CEO of CyberSpark, a government initiative that serves as an innovation incubator.

How Many Politicians Can You Buy with $6.3 Billion Dollars?

Grant Smith, the author of Big Israel: How Israel’s Lobby Moves America, reveals the revenue of the Israeli lobby’s will reach $6.3 billion in 2020, with 17,000 employees and 414,000 volunteers! (Please re-read that statement.) The purpose of the lobby is to influence the US government to serve its foreign-policy objectives and fund its military.

[It is understandable that the Israel government would desire this outcome, but it is unfortunate that the Israel lobby seeks to label those who criticize this relationship as "Anti-Semitic”. That is like saying anyone who criticizes US foreign policy or monetary policy is anti-American.

The Greatest Threat to Campus Free Speech is Coming From Dianne Feinstein and her Military-Contractor Husband

There is no shortage of American pundits who love to denounce “PC” speech codes that restrict and punish the expression of certain ideas on college campuses. What these self-styled campus-free-speech crusaders typically — and quite tellingly — fail to mention is that the most potent such campaigns are often devoted to outlawing or otherwise punishing criticisms of Israel. The firing by the University of Illinois of Professor Steven Salatia for his “uncivil” denunciations of the Israeli war on Gaza — a termination that was privately condoned by Illinois Democratic Senator Dick Durbin — is merely illustrative of this long–growing trend.

AIPAC admits progressives are deserting Israel

AIPAC sought to rally progressives to its side at its annual policy conference in Washington last week.

Largely, it didn’t work.

The Israel lobby giant is simply on the wrong side of too many progressive concerns – and not just Palestinian rights, but free speech as well.

Legislation pushed last week by AIPAC has been criticized as a violation of the First Amendment.

The American Civil Liberties Union has acknowledged recent tweaks to the legislation that targets the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement for Palestinian rights.

But the ACLU’s director Faiz Shakir and staff attorney Brian Hauss wrote US lawmakers on 6 March to tell them that the civil rights organization “continues to strongly urge you to oppose the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, S. 720.”

POLITICIANS CAMPAIGN ON FREE SPEECH WHILE VOTING TO PENALIZE BOYCOTTS OF ISRAEL

POLITICIANS AROUND THE country are seizing upon highly publicized episodes of conservatives faced with harassment and heckling on college campuses by responding with a wave of legislation supposedly aimed at preserving free speech rights for campus speakers. But that commitment, while draped in the mantle of a principled defense of the First Amendment, does not always extend to speakers who criticize Israel and its policies.

This renewed concern about free speech comes after a number of high-profile incidents in which students interrupted conservative speakers, and in a few cases, even used violence at protests. At a hearing on campus free speech in October, U.S. senators expressed bipartisan support for the First Amendment on college campuses, but lawmakers around the country are demanding free speech with one hand, and passing laws that punish boycotts of Israel with the other.

Gaza City residents’ water problems continue to compound

Red-faced and with his hair still wet, Hani Abu Amirah’s grandson sobbed as he shuffled over to where she sat, looking out on the Mediterranean Sea from Gaza’s Shati refugee camp.

The boy’s distress stemmed from his decision to go swimming a little earlier that morning, one that incurred his father’s wrath when he was yanked out of the water and beaten for disobeying orders to stay away from the sea. A year ago, that childlike act of enjoyment would have gone unnoticed but today 80 percent of Gaza’s Mediterranean Sea coastline is thought to be polluted and families who used to rely on it for livelihoods and leisure now fear its waters.

Israel holding bodies of Palestinians as bargaining chips

Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, has passed a law that allows Israeli police to withhold the bodies of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces until their families agree to preconditions on funeral arrangements.

The law, voted in by the Knesset last Wednesday, applies to Palestinian citizens of Israel and those living in East Jerusalem, but not to Palestinians in the rest of the West Bank, or the Gaza Strip, which are under Israeli military rule.

The legislation was passed despite an Israeli high court ruling last year which determined that police have no legal authority to withhold bodies, and that doing so is a violation of basic rights.

“The holding of bodies and preventing their immediate burial is a violation of both Israeli and international law,” the human rights group Adalah stated last week.

Israeli forces raid East Jerusalem cemetery, destroy tombstones of slain Palestinians

Israeli forces destroyed tombstones in a Palestinian cemetery in occupied East Jerusalem early Monday morning, according to local sources.

Husni al-Kilani, supervisor of the al-Mujahideen cemetery, told Ma’an that he received a call at 3 a.m. on Monday informing him that the lock on the main door of the cemetery had been broken, and that the cemetery had been raided.

According to al-Kilani, armed Israeli forces were deployed at the entrance of the cemetery, while what he claimed were officers dressed as civilians, raided the cemetery and destroyed several tombstones using a variety of hand tools.

Al-Kilani told Ma’an that the destroyed tombstones belonged to Muhammad al-Kaluti, Abdullah Abu Kharroub, Thaer Abu Ghazaleh, Bahaa Elayyan, Muhammad Abu Khalaf, Abed al-Muhsen Hassuneh and Muhammad Nimr, who were all killed by Israeli forces during a wave of violence across East Jerusalem and the West Bank that erupted in October 2015.

A group of Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian residents of the southern occupied West Bank village of al-Tiwani, and attempted to set fire to the village’s mosque, according to locals.

Locals from al-Tiwani, located in the South Hebron Hills, told Ma’an that a group of 30 settlers from the Maon and Havat Maon settlements raided the village under the protection of Israeli soldiers.

Settlers reportedly through rocks at Palestinians and their homes, and attempted to set fire to the village mosque, but were stopped by locals.

Jumaa Ribai, a resident of al-Tiwani, told Ma’an that “yesterday the settlers broke my car and threw stones at my house, and today they are renewing their attack on the village and residents.”

WHY DO JEWS HATE JESUS & MARY?

Muslims & Christians Revere Jesus and Mary; Jews hate them both. The recent attacks on the Nation of Islam and the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan have focused attention on the larger issue of Christian-Jewish relations. In a major address at the Nation of Islam’s Saviours’ Day convention on February 25, 2018, Minister Farrakhan presented the harshly anti-Christian words of the Babylonian Talmud—a book revered and followed by today’s Jews, but little known among Christians. Not only is it the source of the most racist of religious teachings—the Curse of Ham—the Talmud says, among many other vile things, that for “leading Israel astray” Jesus is forever remaining seated in a cauldron of boiling excrement in hell. Farrakhan also revealed that the followers of this strange Jewish doctrine attacked a Christian monastery in Israel and painted “Jesus is a monkey” on the walls and further desecrated the church by burning the door.
