Ex-CIA chief will be sentenced for leaking military secrets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former CIA Director David Petraeus, whose career was destroyed by an extramarital affair with his biographer, was expected to be sentenced Thursday in federal court in Charlotte for giving her classified material while she was working on the book.

Petraeus will appear at the sentencing, which comes two months after he agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material.

The plea agreement carries a possible sentence of up to a year in prison. In court papers, prosecutors recommended two years of probation and a $40,000 fine. But the judge is not bound by that and could still impose a prison sentence.

The agreement was filed in Charlotte, where Paula Broadwell, the general's biographer and former lover, lives with her husband and children.

Saudi Arabia’s Disastrous War in Yemen

In what has been three decades of ill-advised wars in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen may be the most ill-advised of them all. “Operation Decisive Storm,” the ironic name for Saudi Arabia’s aerial campaign in Yemen, has led to nothing decisive in Yemen beyond ensuring that the country remains a failed state and fertile ground for organizations like al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). Long before the commencement of “Operation Decisive Storm,” Yemen, the poorest country in the Middle East, was grappling with a host of problems ranging from severe water shortages, food insecurity, and a moribund economy, to a long running multi-front insurgency. Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen has exacerbated all of these problems and could well be the coup de grace for a unified and relatively stable Yemen.

Obama calls on Iran to help resolve crisis in Yemen

'We've indicated to the Iranians that they need to be part of the solution, and not part of the problem,' Obama said in an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday night.

'What we need to do is bring all the parties together and find a political arrangement. It is not solved by having another proxy war in Yemen,' he stated, according to Press TV.

The US president added 'that we can settle down the situation in Yemen.'

Time to Wake up to some Realities on the Iran Deal

Too many cooks spoil the broth, and that appears to be precisely what the Senate had in mind.

Evidently Obama has concluded that a veto-proof majority in both Houses stood behind the Foreign Relations Committee bill, and reluctantly conceded. But that wrests control of the process out of the hands of the Administration. The Iran deal may have died this afternoon.

To make sense of the events that have led to the current negotiations over Iran’s so-called nuclear ambitions, certain elemental realities should be highlighted:

The Iranian deputy foreign minister underlined that the evidence and intel gathered over the past two months shows that certain spy agencies have transferred the ISIL terrorists from Syria and Iraq as well as some (other) regional countries to South Yemen.

"Boko Haram and al-Shabab terrorists have been taken from Nigeria and Somalia to Yemen," Amir Abdollahian added.

He noted that the Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists never attack Israel's interests around the world due to their cooperation with Mossad, and said, "Even in the recent Gaza war against Gaza, the ISIL refrained from confronting the Zionist regime."

Yemen ex-president Saleh 'hopes for return to dialogue'

Yemen's pro-rebel ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh voiced hope Wednesday that a halt to a Saudi-led air campaign in support of his exiled successor would open the way for renewed dialogue.

"While the decision to start the attacks and the aggression was rejected, the decision to stop the attacks and end the aggression is welcome," Saleh said in a Facebook post carried by his party's website al-motamar.net.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is the real issue in Yemen. In 2012 the US intervened and kicked Yemen's legitimate leader out and replaced him with a puppet ruler, just as the US has done to Chile, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Kiev, and some twenty other nations since the end of WW2. The people of Yemen, like the people of Iran, Iraq, Libya, etc. do not like having their nation ruled by a government that serves a foreign power. Who does? Here in America this is growing awareness of how the US Government has become a puppet for Israel, and that angers us. Hence the people of Iraq, Libya, Yemen, eastern Ukraine, are trying to take their country back from foreign rule, just as Iran succeeded in doing in 1979. Saleh wants his legitimate job back. The people of Yemen want him back. But the US, using Saudi Arabia as a proxy, are going to starve and bomb the people of Yemen until they realize that once under US puppet rule, they are expected to stay there, just as the US is doing in Iraq, Libya, Eastern Ukraine, and as soon as possible, Iran.

The leaders of nations will gladly kill each other over who gets to rule what region, but can be counted on to unite against any people that dares think they should rule their own country!

Russia sending two more evacuation planes to Yemen — embassy

"If Saudi Arabia opens airspace, two Russian aircraft are expected to arrive in Sana’a to evacuate citizens," the Russian diplomatic mission in the country said on Tuesday.
More than 400 people, both the citizens of Russia, the United States and the former Soviet states, are expected to be evacuated, according to the embassy. "If everything is fine, the Russian aircraft will evacuate everyone," it said.
Since early April, Moscow has evacuated more than 1,000 citizens of Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and other countries. Around 900 people were evacuated from Sana’a and the seaport city of Aden on April 2 and April 4 to an airbase outside Moscow.
On April 12, the Priazovye vessel of Russia’s Navy brought another 320 people, including 18 US citizens, from Aden to Djibouti. All the Russian citizens were flown from Djibouti to Moscow by two Il-62 aircraft on April 12-13.

Saudi Arabia Orders Its National Guard To Enter Yemen War

Over the better part of the past month, the only entities actively involved in the proxy war in Yemen against the local Houthi rebel force have been air force units, mostly under Saudi command as part of Operation "Decisive Storm." Which probably explains why there has been little if any progress to note in pushing back said rebellion which, armed heavily thanks to the US government, has successfully managed to push the current president into an indefinite exile.

That changed hours ago, when Saudi Arabia's King Salman ordered the Saudi Arabian National Guard, widely regarded as the kingdom's best equipped military ground force, to take part in Riyadh's campaign against Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen.

As Reuters notes, "military operations in the campaign have so far been carried out by the Royal Saudi Air Force and the Royal Saudi Land Forces, which answer to the Defense Ministry. The national guard is a separate military structure run by its own ministry."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Pakistan faces dilemma as Saudi bills come due

When the Saudi appeal first came, it seemed that the dispatch of Pakistani soldiers to the Gulf was imminent: "Any threat to the territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia will be met with a firm response," read a communique from Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

But soon thereafter, Pakistan's foreign ministry issued a denial that any of the country's military was engaged in Yemen, though the Pakistani flag continued to fly alongside that of Arab nations at the Saudi-based headquarters of Yemen operations.

This "now-you-see-it, now-you-don't" game ended only when Pakistan's Parliament voted against the dispatch of troops. Still, the episode shed light on the murky world of Pakistani-Saudi relations, a link which looks destined to shape the security map of the Middle East for years to come.

Israeli Fighter Jets Join Saudi Arabia in War on Yemen

Israel’s fighter jets have taken part in the Thursday Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen, sources in Sanaa disclosed on Friday.

“This is for the first time that the Zionists are conducting a joint operation in coalition with Arabs,” Secretary General of Yemen’s Al-Haq Political Party Hassan Zayd wrote on his facebook page.

He noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had issued direct orders for the Israeli air force to send fighter jets to the Saudi-led air raid on Yemen.

Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes against Yemen and killed, at least, 25 civilians early Thursday, one day after the US-backed Yemeni president fled the country.

46 Civilians Killed as Saudi Warplanes Attack Yemen Capital

At least 46 people are dead tonight and several hundred others wounded after Saudi warplanes launched attacks on the outskirts of a missile depot in the Yemeni capital city of Sanaa.

No military casualties were reported in the strikes, which set off a string of explosions around residential neighborhoods in Sanaa. Many of the casualties were from explosions blowing out windows in people’s homes.

Saudi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Ahmed Asseri went on to say that today’s strikes were part of a “new phase” of war against the Houthis, one which he insisted would include “protection of civilians.” So far, the phase seems not to be off to a great start.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have two words for Saudi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Ahmed Asseri, and those are: WAR CRIMES!!!

And, sir, would someone from the Saudi military please inform me about how one wins what is essentially a ground war from the air?!?

The short answer is, you can't!

The indiscriminate killing of civilians here appears to be quite deliberate, from the Saudi military perspective, and with heavy US military enabling.

The only ways here to restore peace and sanity to Yemen is a negotiated settlement, coupled with some VERY brave Sunni and Shiite clerics having a conversation about cooperating with each other, and becoming examples of what it means to treat the other with tolerance and compassion.

Oxfam Condemns Coalition Airstrike on Humanitarian Aid Warehouse in Yemen

Grace Ommer, Oxfam's country director in Yemen, called on the warring sides of Yemen's conflict to establish peace and allow for humanitarian access.

Oxfam strongly condemned Monday the bombing of one of its warehouses in Saada Governorate in the north of Yemen.

"This is an absolute outrage particularly when one considers that we have shared detailed information with the Coalition on the locations of our offices and storage facilities," Grace Ommer, Oxfam's country director in Yemen, was quoted as saying by the organization on its website.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am having a palm to forehead moment, at almost terminal velocity, upon reading this.

Is this woman pathologically incapable of understanding that when Oxfam gives the coalition the GPS locations of food storage places within Yemen, these places will be bombed out of existence?!?

Misery is just what the US and Saudi forces want to inflict on the people of Yemen, who had the utter audacity to throw the US-sponsored puppet, Al-Madi, out on his keister.

There have been reports of schools and hospitals being shelled. As reported in the latimes.com 5 days ago:

Pentagon officials, who pride themselves on the care they take to avoid civilian casualties, have watched with growing alarm as Saudi airstrikes have hit what the U.N. this week called "dozens of public buildings," including hospitals, schools, residential areas and mosques. The U.N. said at least 364 civilians have been killed in the campaign. lRelated Al Qaeda seizes Yemen airport, military base; U.N. envoy resigns MIDDLE EAST Al Qaeda seizes Yemen airport, military base; U.N. envoy resigns SEE ALL RELATED 8 Although U.S. personnel don't pick the bombing targets, Americans are working beside Saudi military officials to check the accuracy of target lists in a joint operations center in Riyadh, defense officials said. And IF, as the article asserts, "Americans are working beside Saudi military officials to check the accuracy of target lists in a joint operations center in Riyadh", only one of two things is possible here: either these civilian targets are being deliberately hit to create as much human carnage and misery possible, or the Saudis, using US gps "smart bombs" cannot shoot straight!!

Sony CEO on Middle East: Let Them All Kill Each Other (Except Israel)

The CEO of Sony called the Middle East a "gigantic mess," and said if it was not for Israel's presence in the region, the United States would "let them all kill each other," according to emails published by WikiLeaks.
The secrets-spilling group last week republished hundreds of thousands of documents and emails from the hack last fall of Sony Pictures Entertainment. The massive collection includes emails CEO Michael Lynton wrote in response to an October 2014 Washington Post article about President Barack Obama's foreign policy in Syria. Iranian support for Yemen's Houthis goes back years

If the U.S. ships intercept the Iranian convoy, they may find it is carrying humanitarian supplies to Yemen to relieve a populace facing massive shortages, Schenker said. Iran for years has provided humanitarian and military assistance to Shiite militias in Iraq and Lebanon, and in the past it has provided similar assistance to Sunni militias fighting Israel in the Gaza Strip.

"There is the possibility of a humanitarian crisis of immense proportions," he said. "Nobody wants to go into Yemen to do this kind of work. But one thing we've learned over the past few years is that the Iranians always stand by their friends."

Webmaster's Commentary:

I did a Google search for the Iranian "warships" on their way to Yemen and all Google showed were photos of the US warships heading for a confrontation. From this I conclude that the Iranian ships are not warships but cargo ships full of humanitarian aid, but Google doesn't think you need to know that.

The U.S. Is Helping Commit Atrocities in Yemen—And Pretending It's Iran's Fault

In an April interview with PBS Newshour, Secretary of State John Kerry was asked about Iran’s involvement in the escalating war in Yemen. His response was astounding and revealing.

“Iran needs to recognize that the United States is not going to stand by while the region is destabilized or while people engage in overt warfare across lines — international boundaries — in other countries,” Kerry said.

The quip was astounding because Iran is not bombing Yemen or engaged in “overt warfare” there, though it has given some support to one side. The culprit on the overt warfare front is Saudi Arabia.

Red Crescent: Tens of Yemeni Children Killed by Saudi Poison Gas

"We will display a video on the death of tens of children who died after inhaling poisonous gases," an official of Yemen's Red Crescent Society, Abdollah Maboud Al-Shokri, told FNA on Sunday.

He noted that the bomb explosions in the Saudi airstrikes not only destroy a large number of homes, but also create a thick cloud of poisonous and fatal gases.

Yemeni officials had already warned that the bombs that the Saudi regime has used in Sana'a were different from those used in other parts of Yemen.

Conference on the Israel Lobby—Press Blackout at the Press Club

So, where were the reporters of the mainstream media? Where was C-SPAN during a week when Congress was on a holiday and their cameras were not preoccupied by Capitol Hill activities—its foremost priority? Organized by the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, which was launched about thirty years ago by a British Army Officer who served in World War II and two retired U.S. Ambassadors to countries in the Middle East (wrmea.org), the day-long program at the prestigious National Press Club should have been intriguing to reporters. Iranian ship convoy moves toward Yemen, alarming US officials

U.S. military officials are concerned that Iran's support for Houthi rebels in Yemen could spark a confrontation with Saudi Arabia and plunge the region into sectarian war.
Iran is sending an armada of seven to nine ships — some with weapons — toward Yemen in a potential attempt to resupply the Shia Houthi rebels, according to two U.S. defense officials.

What's unusual about the new deployment, which set out this week, is that the Iranians are not trying to conceal it, officials said. Instead, they appear to be trying to "communicate it" to the U.S. and its allies in the Gulf.

The Saudi major general was killed, while he was on a mission in Al Majda village in Quatabir district of the Sadah governorate in Northwestern Yemen on Saturday, a member of his entourage during the visit to Majda, who asked to remain unnamed, told an FNA correspondent in Riyadh on Tuesday.

The source added that two other senior officers accompanying General Fahd were also killed during the attack.

According to the source, Saudi princes have been visiting General Turki bin Abdulaziz's palace since Sunday to express their condolences to his bereaved family.

The slain General was the grandson of King bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Christopher Bollyn on “Solving 9/11 ends the war” on Kevin Barrett’s Truth Jihad Radio (audio)

On this day in history, April 15th, 1912, the Titanic sank. Today’s guest Christopher Bollyn, author of Solving 9/11, says the American ship of state is sailing towards doom – and the only way to turn it around is by facing the truth about 9/11.

Christopher just returned to his home in Europe after a “Solving 9/11 Ends the War” speaking tour in the US. (I will be speaking in some of the same venues during next week’s We Are NOT Charlie Hebdo book tour.) We discuss America’s, and the world’s, gradual awakening to the truth about 9/11 – and the possibility that Netanyahu and the neocons could launch another huge false flag to torpedo the Iran nuclear agreement and cover their 9/11 tracks via a wider war that could go global and nuclear.

Why is Anyone Listening to the Neocons in the 21st Century?

Neocons have turned the Middle East into a quagmire, Afghanistan into a war without end, and disgraced the U.S. in Latin America and Africa. As a result of the Neocons' bellicose rhetoric, and policies of militarily encircling China and Russia, they have set off another arms race and Cold War 2.0.

Al-Qaeda captures major airport, oil terminal in south Yemen

Saudi Coalition Preventing Food Ships From Reaching Yemen

One of the first measures taken by Saudi Arabia, when announcing its war against Yemen, was a full-scale naval blockade. For a nation that imports over 90% of its food, that was a devastating move, and one Saudi officials assured wouldn’t keep the food out of the country.

US, Israel OK'd Saudi war on Yemen: Iran defense min.

Iran’s defense minister says the Saudi aggression against Yemen has been authorized by the United States and the Israeli regime, calling for an immediate end to the deadly assaults.

Addressing the Fourth Moscow International Security Conference on Thursday, Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said the Saudi government unleashed deadly air raids against Yemen once it received the green light from the United States and Israel, and was promised military cooperation by some regional states.

He added that not only will the Saudi regime fail to achieve its “illegitimate” purposes in Yemen, but will also suffer a heavy defeat and precipitate its downfall, said Dehqan, adding a fate similar to that of former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, awaits Riyadh’s ruler.

S-300 missile system serves defense purposes for Iran: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has defended Moscow’s recent decision to deliver S-300 air defense system to Iran, saying the system is meant for deterrence amid the developments in war-torn Yemen.

He made the remarks during his annual televised question-and-answer session with the nation at Gostiny Dvor (Merchant Yard) exhibition hall in the Russian capital city of Moscow on Thursday.

“This is a defensive weapons system. More than that, considering the situation that is building up in the region, especially regarding the incidents in Yemen, we think that the delivery of this kind of weapon is a preventive factor,” Putin said.

The comments come as Yemen has been the scene of deadly aerial assaults by Saudi Arabia since March 26. The attacks have so far killed some 2,600 people, according to Yemeni sources.

The Kremlin and the Neocons

While Clark’s public exposé largely escaped attention in the neocon-friendly “mainstream media” (surprise, surprise!), he recounted being told by a senior general at the Pentagon shortly after the 9/11 attacks in 2001 about the Donald Rumsfeld/Paul Wolfowitz-led plan for “regime change” in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Iran.

This was startling enough, I grant you, since officially the United States presents itself as a nation that respects international law, frowns upon other powerful nations overthrowing the governments of weaker states, and – in the aftermath of World War II – condemned past aggressions by Nazi Germany and decried Soviet “subversion” of pro-U.S. nations.

But what caught my eye this time was the significance of Clark’s depiction of Wolfowitz in 1992 gloating over what he judged to be a major lesson learned from the Desert Storm attack on Iraq in 1991; namely, “the Soviets won’t stop us.”

Geopolitical Ramifications of US-Saudi Armed Interventionism in Yemen

The Houthi rebellion in Yemen that was already in existence more than five years ago had recently turned into a full-blown conflict that escalated into an international crisis in the first week of April of 2015 when Houthi rebels in Yemen deposed President Abed Rabou Mansur Hadi, throwing him out of the helm of Yemeni government. Hadi fled to Saudi Arabia while the Houthis effectively captured the capital Sana’a. Thereafter, Saudi Arabia, has initiated massive aerial bombings against the de facto Houthi government in Sana’a and in various strategic areas of Yemen that are now being occupied by the Houthi militia.

RELIGIOUS FANATICISM IS A HUGE FACTOR IN AMERICANS’ SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL

Almost half of all Americans want to support Israel even if its interests diverge from the interests of their own country. Only a minority of Americans (47 percent) say that their country should pursue their own interests over supporting Israel’s when the two choices collide. It’s the ultimate violation of George Washington’s 1796 Farewell Address warning that “nothing is more essential than that permanent, inveterate antipathies against particular nations, and passionate attachments for others, should be excluded. … The nation which indulges towards another a habitual hatred or a habitual fondness is in some degree a slave.”

Russia bashers eat crow as Putin wins Time Magazine poll

Vladimir Putin steals the show in TIME 100 reader’s poll

Western media did their best to hide Putin’s stratospheric popularity in their assigned propaganda task of demonizing Russia and Putin over the Ukrainian Western coup , replacing the Iran nuclear weapons threat hoax with the new Russian Bear threat one.

The biggest threat to our national security comes from treasonous cliques within our own ranks and their recent marriage over that last decade into the international corporate crime syndicates.

We are not really biased here at VT. It is just a simple observation to us… it is Putin and Lavrov all the way. No one can touch them and they own this piece of history, something that the spinmeisters cannot lay a glove on.

TIME Magazine Invaded by Kremlin Troll Army

Western media campaign to demonize Putin has failed to convince its target audience. The Western public are not buying the hysterical political agenda.
The iconic current affairs TIME magazine follows this week’s news that Russian President Vladimir Putin came top of the TIME 100 readers’ poll.

Western publics have now alternative media sources, ranging from foreign-based professional news services to a plethora of Western-based internet sites. The alternative scope is often critical of Western government policies and capable of ably exposing ulterior, hidden political agenda. In other words, the alternative news sources are often doing the proper job of journalism that is neglected by Western mainstream media who seem to be preoccupied with advancing the political objectives of their governments – no matter how unethical those objectives are.

Israel Lobby Conference: How big is the Lobby ?

Any lawyers willing to do it? Support the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) movement, on American university campuses across the nation.

Ahmad Saadaldin on Panel 3 (Overcoming obstacles: SJP – Student for Justice in Palestine successes) stood out as an especially inspiring representative of … a younger generation of activists.

The US administration and the US Congress have succumbed to the demands of the Zionists and the Zionist regime. American politicians and media have fallen captive to the Zionist network. This is a lethal ailment that afflicts the US.

Regrettably little is being done to cure this fatal disease.

Gideon Levy: A Prophetic Voice from Israel

The few prophetic voices we have, like Gideon Levy, will continue to remind us of the false prophets who have led us into the darkness.

As part of his mission, Levy came to Washington last week to speak at the National Press Club.

Levy came to Washington with the simple message that change in the situation between Israel and it neighbors will have to come from the U.S. He feels that Israel is a “lost case”. Change will not come from an Israeli society which “has surrounded itself with shields, with walls, not just physical walls but also mental walls.”

He sees three principles which allow “Israelis to live easily with the brutal tyranny that is the occupation”.

Hillary Clinton – the ‘Liberal’ Puppet for War

Hillary Clinton this week launched her bid for the US presidential elections in 2016.

Clinton’s Republican rivals or would-be rivals immediately fired the brickbats, accusing the 67-year-old former First Lady of being a «Washington insider» and the «embodiment of all that is wrong» in US politics.

Hillary Rodham Clinton is lambasted by Republicans as a «liberal».

Whether described as «liberal», «conservative» or «hawk» – all American presidential candidates are the same in practice. Puppets for sale.

The unintended irony of Clinton’s Republican detractors, who include rabid rightwing Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, as well as the maverick Senator Rand Paul, is that every single one of them will have to spend similar amounts of cash in their anticipated presidential campaigns.

Bomb Iran? Not now: bomb Yemen

“Operation Decisive Storm” – yet another Pentagon-style illegal war – has already plunged Yemen into the twin plagues of civil war and humanitarian disaster.

So what we have is the ‘Empire of Chaos’ ‘leading from behind’ in the war on Yemen and also de facto ‘leading from behind’ in the fight against ISIS/ISIL/Daesh; the ones doing the heavy lifting are Iraqi militias supported by Tehran. The hidden agenda is always – what else –chaos; be it across “Syraq” or inside Yemen. With an extra bonus; while Washington is engaged on striking a nuclear deal with Tehran, it also turbo-charges an alliance against Tehran using the House of Saud.

Saudis Face Defeat in Yemen and Instability at Home

“The interventions of US imperialism, with the direct collaboration of the Saudi monarchy, have plunged the entire Middle East into chaos and bloodshed—from the destruction of Iraq, to the transformation of Libya into a militia-ravaged “failed state,” to the ongoing carnage inflicted upon Syria … This predatory imperialist offensive threatens to ignite a region-wide conflagration, even as Washington deliberately ratchets up military tensions with both Russia and China. The threat of these separate conflicts coalescing into a third world war grows by the day.”

President Assad calls out phony Anti-ISIS coalition

The Syrian President pointed out that the United States and its dozens of allies are actually doing much less fighting against ISIS than Syria is. The truth is, of course, that President Assad’s Syrian army is the one effective force fighting ISIS, while the United States and its allies have been pouring money and weapons into the “rebel” forces fighting against Assad. Thus, on balance, the United States-led coalition is actually allied with ISIS.
