A Coming Russia-Ukraine War?

While much of America’s – and the world’s – attention focused this weekend reflecting on Donald Trump’s first year in the Oval Office, holding one-year anniversary events for the historic Women’s March and drawing up balance sheets of his promises and achievements, Russia has had a rather different issue on the front-burner: a possible war with Ukraine.

The situation in the Donbass region of south-eastern Ukraine has been a feature of Russia’s political talk shows for the past couple years, along with the military campaign in Syria and more recently the stages in the preparation for presidential elections on March 18.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And to whom have the US government and NATO pledged allegiance should such a war break out?!?

Why, UKRAINE, of course!!

Here is what has transpired, so far:

Ukraine hosts US military PERMANENTLY STATIONED ON ITS SOIL.

Amid Russian Tensions, US Army continues to build up Ukrainian Training Center

Folks, I am havng a double facepalm, at warp speed, upon reading this; and the intense upsurge in the demonizing of Russia right now, isn't helping anything.

I am very concerned about a US/Ukrainian war against Russia, and for the following, logical reasons:

1. With all of their existing missions, US military forces are stretched nearly beyond belief. Russia conscripts; the US goverment has ot done so in a long time. And sould such a war be brewing, I would not bet against the reinstitution of the draft in this country.

2. The US military doesn't have the money, or the manufacturing, to pursue a war against Russia in Ukraine.

3. The US military doesn't have the weaponry to insure a positive outcome to such a war. The world has witnessed the integrity and capability of Russia's weapons during their mission in Syria, and that was something to behold.

The US military?!? I give you the F-35, which has cost taxpayers billions, and delivered little of what it promised, even at this late date.

A war against Russia in Syria would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing that the US government could possibly do at this moment; unfortunately, however, that is utterly no guarantee whatsoever, that it will not do this.

US Struggles With Fighting Between Turkey, Syrian Kurds, Two Key Allies

US warnings and calls for restraint have failed, and Turkey has invaded Syria’s Afrin District, beginning what could be a protracted battle with the US-backed Kurdish YPG. Two major US allies are in open conflict.

US allies have often clashed in the course of the Syrian War, but this is shaping up to be a long military campaign by Turkey, which has been looking to push against the Kurds for quite some time.

The US is so far just calling for “restraint,” but their involvement in the fight could come quite quickly, as Turkish officials have repeatedly said after Afrin, they’ll be attacking the YPG-held city of Manbij, a city that has US troops embedded within.

The US initially sent troops to Manbij to try to deter a Turkish invasion, betting they wouldn’t want to risk causing casualties to a fellow NATO member. That the fight is already ongoing now may change that calculation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So let me get this straight; the US military has troops embedded with the YGB in Mandij, the city in Syria Turkey has announced it will attack next.

Is the White House planning to create an exit corridor through which the American troops be able to leave, and quickly, or are they "sacrificial lambs" with which to justify a full-on invasion of Syria and/or Turkey?!?

This is about to get ugly, quickly.

AEOI Official: Russia, China Willing to Build Small N. Reactors in Iran

Deputy Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Ahmadian announced that China and Russia have voiced enthusiasm for the construction of small nuclear reactors in Iran.

"The Chinese have worked a lot in this field and some negotiations have been held with them. They are interested in cooperation with Iran in this field. Also Russia has worked on small units (of nuclear reactors) for vessels and we have also announced our interest to cooperate with them in this sector," Ahmadian said

"Iran has studied different countries which have worked on the small reactors technology and are willing to cooperate with Iran and is in talks with them," he added.

Putin is a 'clear and present danger' to Britain: Head of the Army warns of Russia's 'eye-watering' military power and how it is using the war in Syria to test its frightening arsenal

Vladimir Putin could start hostilities against the West ‘sooner than we expect’, the head of the Army has said.

Warning of Russia’s ‘eye-watering’ military capabilities, Sir Nick Carter laid bare the scale of the threat.

The Chief of the General Staff said the Kremlin was a ‘clear and present danger’ and predicted a conflict would start with something we did not expect.

‘They are not thousands of miles away, they are on Europe’s doorstep,’ he said in a speech at the Royal United Services Institute.

Britain’s ability to pre-empt or respond to the threat ‘will be eroded if we don’t match up to them now,’ he said, adding: ‘Russia could initiate hostilities sooner than we expect.’

War With Russia Creeps Closer as Ukraine Moves to Pull out of Minsk Accords

While much of America’s – and the world’s – attention focused this weekend reflecting on Donald Trump’s first year in the Oval Office, holding one-year anniversary events for the historic Women’s March and drawing up balance sheets of his promises and achievements, Russia has had a rather different issue on the front-burner: a possible war with Ukraine.

The situation in the Donbass region of south-eastern Ukraine has been a feature of Russia’s political talk shows for the past couple years, along with the military campaign in Syria and more recently the stages in the preparation for presidential elections on March 18.

Focus on the Donbass conflict increased in the closing weeks of 2017 as military action on the front lines separating the forces of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk enjoying Russian support from Ukrainian militias and armed forces reached an intensity not seen for more than a year. This is despite the heralded exchange of military prisoners by both sides before New Year’s under talks supervised by the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill.

Then, this past Thursday, came a wholly new development>>>

Lavrov: It is about time Russia should exit Western project

To expand the horizons of its “red lines,” Russia should get out of someone else’s economic project, political analyst Leonid Krutakov said.

In an interview with Kommersant, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov outlined Russia’s “red lines,” which Western “partners” are not recommended to cross. Serious Western politicians should not only understand but also respect this he added

“Russia has the right to defend the interests of its compatriots, especially when they are persecuted in many countries, when their rights are oppressed, as it happened in Ukraine,” Sergei Lavrov said.

Turkey vs. USA? Ministry of Defense orders Russian military to leave Afrin, Syria

The Russian command in Syria has taken measures to ensure the security of servicemen in Afrin, where Turkey is conducting an operation against the Kurds, the Defense Ministry said.

The military department stressed that "to prevent possible provocations, to exclude the threat to life and health of Russian servicemen," the operational group of the Center for reconciliation of warring parties and military police was relocated from Afrin to Tel Adjar.

The Center for Reconciliation continues to monitor the situation in the de-escalation zone of Tel-Rifat in order to promptly provide assistance to the civilian population leaving the combat areas, the report said.

Russian forces re-deployed from Afrin after Turkey’s offensive - Russia’s Defense MinistryMore:http://tass.com/defense/986083

An operations group of the Russian center for reconciliation of warring sides and military police has been re-deployed from Syria’s Afrin to Tel Ajar after Turkey had launched its offensive, Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

The ministry said that "the command of the Russian military group in Syria has taken steps to provide security of the Russian servicemen, who had been stationed in Afrin canton, where the Turkish Armed Forces have mounted a ‘special operation’ against Kurdish units."

"The operations group of the center for reconciliation of warring sides and military police have been redeployed from the area of Afrin to the area of Tel Ajar in the Tel Rifaat de-confliction zone in order to avoid possible provocations and to ensure Russian servicemen’s lives and health are not exposed to risks," the ministry said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: this may be a retreat, but it appears to be a tactical retreat only, to keep Russian soldiers safe, until Putin and Lavrov decide precisely how to approach this Turkish invasion of Northern Syria.

But in the genral theme of things, the optics here cannot appear as through Russia has "backed down" from assisting Syria militarily, or allow Turkey to appear militarily successful in this bombing campaign and invasion.

Turkey launches major land operation into YPG militants in Syria's Afrin

Turkey has begun a land operation on the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), with troops entering Syrian soil at 11:05 a.m. on Jan. 21, Prime Minister Binali Y?ld?r?m told a group of journalists.

“Our units have entered Afrin from two branches at 11:05 a.m. with the Free Syrian Army. This means the land operation has begun,” Y?ld?r?m said, speaking to the editors of Turkish news publications in a meeting held in Istanbul.

The operation, which came hours after a major air strike on the YPG on Jan. 20, will consist of four phases to create a safe zone with a 30-kilometer depth, he said.

The first phase would be aimed to form a secure zone on the Turkish borders between Azaz and Afrin. Following the first phase, Y?ld?r?m said, the "cleaning" would require an even more thorough work and "there was no need to rush."

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Webcrawl on Faux News barely mentioned the Turkish bombing campaign in Afrin yesterday, and has certainly not mentioned the land invasion of northern Syria by Turkey today in any meaningful way.

From the time of the Ottoman Empire to the present, one skill set at which the Turkish government and military continues to be magnificently adept is genocide.

The Turkish Genocide of Armenians

When Yildirm made the observation that "There are around 8,000 to 10,000 terrorists in Afrin,", he is, hubristically, attempting to "groom" the rest of the world to be prepared for an horrifically overwhelming number of dead Kurds from this operation; women; infants; children; and the medically fragile elderly most likely will not be spared.

And what I want to know is, just how many US troops are embedded with these Kurdish troops in and around Afrin, and what happens when those US troops get shot and killed or maimed for life by Turkish forces?!?

Did the Turkish government covertly warn the US government that this was going to happen in time to get those US troops safely out of that area of Syria?!?

No one at the White House seems to be saying anything, and this... is a really bad sign for both innocent, non-combatant Kurds, and for our troops in that region of the world. I mean, a couple of months ago, wasn't the US government attempting to create an independent Kurdistan out of bits of Northern Syria?!?

Specter of Syrian Kurdistan: How US' Covert Plan is Taking Shape

And if this is, in fact was "the US plan" for the Kurdish people, why has President Trump done absolutely nothing to prevent, or at least, mitigate, Edrogan's invasion of Syria?!?

There are way too many questions, and not nearly enough intelligent answers.

Right now, I am praying for the Kurdish non-combatants in Afrin, and hoping for a way in which they can be evacuated to safety; but that would probably need Russian assistance from the Syrian side, and I don't see the presence of any Russian military yet in the region.

CIA False Flag Likely in Drone Attack on Russia’s Syrian Bases

The audacious multiple-drone attack on Russia’s military bases in Syria is increasingly looking like a false flag carried out by the American Central Intelligence Agency. Sophisticated technology and a Ukrainian connection indicate that the swarm attack with 13 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) was not the work solely of Syrian anti-government militants.

What’s more the Russian government appears to have the incriminating evidence on who sanctioned the drone attacks against the Russian air base at Hmeimim and its naval port at Tartus on January 6.

The weapons failed to execute their deadly mission. Of the 13 drones used, seven were shot down by Russian Pantsir S-1 air defenses and six were safely landed by Russian electronic jamming technology. Those captured intact UAVs will have provided forensic information about what agency authored the plot.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said coyly, “We know who did it”, without as of yet specifying the culprit.

Lockheed keeps F-16 production line going with Bahrain deal

Bahrain is set to become the first country in the region to operate Lockheed’s F-16 Block 70 aircraft, in a move that will boost the Falcon’s production line.

Last November, Vice President Mike Pence announced the signature of a deal for the sale of 16 F-16s worth over $2.3 billion to the Gulf country, considering it a “big boost for American jobs and security.”

“We are pleased the Kingdom of Bahrain and the U.S. government have agreed to move forward with the sale of F-16 Block 70 aircraft for the Royal Bahraini Air Force,” said Rick Groesch, regional vice president of international business development at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So what can this fighter jet do?!? Here, from Lockheed's own PR department, come the specs:

Capabilities: the F-16 Block 70

And Vice-President Pence, can you please elaborate on your statement that this deal be a"“big boost for American jobs and security”
.

No one, sir, should know the facts on the ground regarding Bahrain better than you do; and yet, knowing what you know, you still let this deal go through?!?

Yes, we both understand that it is home to the US Navy's 5th Fleet.

And yes, we both understand the ruling Shiekdom, the Al Khalifa monarchy, has a human rights record just to the right of that of Atilla the Hun.

The Sunni monarchy has been making mincemeat of its primarily Shiia subjects, who have been peacefully advocating for a constitutional monarchy for some time now. And how has the government, and monarchy of Barhain dealt with these peaceful protests?!?

Peaceful demonsrators have consistently received beatings, to torture untrue confessions out of them, then made to appear at kangaroo courts, where they can expect a guilty sentence, and extensive jail time. This has also consistently happened to medical first responders who treated the wounds of those peaceful protestors.

Yes, we both know that this sale was great for Lockheed; but Vice-President Pence, understanding the total and complete anti human rights record of this country, at what moral price to these United States of America was this deal struck?!?

And frankly, what country does the US government expect the Bahraini military to attack with these fighter jets?!? What is the quid pro quo here?!?

The Bahraini government keeps claiming that Iranian Shiia rebels are constantly trying to turn the people of Bahrain against its government and monarchy; was the quid pro quo a tacit understanding that when Saudi Arabia; the US; and Israel decide to attack Iran, that Barhain would become part of the "coalition" to bring regime change to Tehran?!?

I would share something critical to understand for the government and royalty of Bahrain; should Iran be attacked, Russia will most likely enter this war on Iran's side; both politicians and Russian military have promised this to the Iranian government for decades.

I would therefore strongly suggest that you think twice about entering a war which could mean war against both Russia and Iran.

US Military’s ‘Prime Focus’ Will Be Competing With Russia, China

The newest US National Defense Strategy, the first since at 2014, appears to set out a major shift in the focus of America’s massive military and its endless wars, with officials now saying that the global wars on terror, while continuing, will no longer be the “prime focus of US national security.”

Instead, Defense Secretary James Mattis says the new strategy will put the primary focus of the US military engaging in power competition with other “great powers,” with Russia and China apparently the targets.

The “great power” conceit is a very 19th century concept, based around the idea that certain countries have uniquely great influence and authority worldwide. Historically, the great powers tend to view everyone else as pawns to be used in broader global strategies which establish the great powers’ pecking order with respect to one another.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What the hell ever happened, in terms of the US government's "weltanschauung", to moral, peaceful engagement and negotiation, as a non-martial alternative to war, which is rapidly evolving to be "the only answer" to the US government's geopolitical's concerns?!?

RUSSIAN MILITARY PULLS OUT OF SYRIAN KURDISH TOWN AS TURKEY INITIATES "MASSIVE CROSS-BORDER ATTACK"

Turkey's defense minister has confirmed the Turkish military has begun cross-border shelling of the Syrian Kurdish enclave of Afrin in what he further describes as the "de facto start" of the operation in order to destroy - in President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an's words - Kurdish "terror nests" - and which has been dubbed previously by Turkey as a 'massive cross-border attack.'

Defense Minister Nuettin Canikli said Friday that Ankara "has no option" regarding the planned invasion of Northern Syria to dislodge the YPG (Kurdish "People's Protection Units") and other factions, which it considers an extension of the "terrorist" PKK. Kurdish YPG militias and their media arms began reporting sporadic shelling and clashes earlier this week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, let me get this straight; Turkey, a NATO member, may well find itself attacking positions where the US, another NATO member, may have troops embedded with the Kurds in Afrin?!?

This is dicey. But what is even more dicey is the reality that if Russia attacks the US in Afrin, we may well be on our way to World War III. The same may well happen if Russian forces strike Turkish forces here.

'Ukraine on Fire': How US, Not Russia, Destroyed Ukraine - Oliver Stone Documentary Finally Available

Oliver Stone's seminal documentary Ukraine on Fire has finally been made available to watch in the West.

Ukraine, the 'borderlands' between Russia and 'civilized' Europe is on fire. For centuries, it has been at the center of a tug-of-war between powers seeking to control its rich lands and Russia's access to the Mediterranean.

The Maidan Massacre in early 2014 triggered a bloody uprising that ousted president Viktor Yanukovych, spurred Crimeans to secede and join Russia, and sparked a civil war in Eastern Ukraine.

Russia was portrayed by Western media as the perpetrator, and has been sanctioned and widely condemned as such. But was Russia responsible for what happened?

The US is Arming and Assisting Neo-Nazis in Ukraine, While Congress Debates Prohibition

Images of the encounter showed American army officers poring over maps with their Ukrainian counterparts, palling around and ignoring the Nazi-inspired Wolfangel patches emblazoned on their sleeves.

Azov is a militia that has been incorporated into the Ukrainian National Guard, and is considered one of the most effective units in the field against pro-Russian separatists. But it also widely known as a bastion of neo-Nazism within the ranks of the Ukrainian military that has been criticized by international human rights groups, tied to an international fascist network and even a major terror plot.

Syria threatens to 'destroy' Turkish warplanes

Syria threatened on Thursday to "destroy" any Turkish warplanes that fly into its territory as Ankara prepares to launch a cross-border military operation to wipe out Kurdish fighters it calls "terrorists".

Turkish officials have repeatedly vowed to attack the Syrian-Kurd militia known as the YPG at any moment in the Afrin region in northern Syria, near the border with Turkey.

The move comes after the United States announced this week it would train the YPG-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to be part of a 30,000-strong "border force" - a statement US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on Thursday was "misportrayed".

Webmaster's Commentary:

Russia moving military "observies into Syria's Afrin

How quickly Russian assets can move from "Observer" to "Participant" status remains to be seen. But I think we can count on one thing for sure: Russia will do just whatever Al Assad asks then to do.

IF Turkey attacks US forces in Syria, this will be an ugly scene of NATO member firing on fellow NATO member.

IF Russian and the US mlitary turn this conflict into a shooting war between themselves, we are looking, potentially, at the start of World War III.

Kiev’s actions with regard to Donbass look like preparation for new war — Foreign Ministry

Ukraine’s passing the law on the reintegration of Donbass can be seen as preparations for a new war, says a commentary of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

"Since being approved under the first reading (on October 6, 2017), the document, although having undergone certain corrections, has preserved its main orientation - to legislatively confirm Kiev’s policy towards the settlement of the ‘problem of Donbass’ through the use of force," the ministry said.

"In particular, it announced reformatting of the so-called anti-terrorist operation into a military one and delegation of control over it to the military to whom all the rest law enforcement officers will be subordinated," it said.

Ukraine’s parliament passes law on Donbass reintegration
"In essence, Poroshenko gets unrestricted, almost dictatorial powers for suppressing dissidence and discontent. This cannot be called otherwise than preparations for a new war," it stressed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And on top of THAT, we have the following articles, which do not augur well for peace in the region:

Trump Administrtion Approves lethal weapons sales to Ukraine

This deal is valued at +/- $41.5 million dollars. Precisely when the weapons will arrive has not yet been revealed.

And then, we have this little gem:

Ukrainian Parliament Passes a Bill to Wrest "Occupied Territories from Russia"

Good luck with THAT!!

There is just one little tiny, teensy logic flaw here, specifically when it comes to Crimea; Russia never, ever annexed Crimea.

And please remember how President Barak Obama characterized the putsch:

Washington was behind the Ukraine Coup; Obama admits it brokered a deal in support of regime change The article goes on to state:

"US President Barack Obama’s recent interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakiria reveals the United States’ involvement in the Ukrainian crisis from its outset and that the country worked directly with Ukrainian right-wing fascist groups, experts told Sputnik.

On Sunday, in his interview with CNN, Obama admitted that the United States “had brokered a deal to transition power in Ukraine.”

“Obama’s statement is reiterating something that the world public opinion already knew — the US was involved in the coup of [ex-Ukrainian President] Viktor Yanukovych from the start. History shows us that the US has overthrown numerous governments in Latin America, Asia and Africa and replaced them with leaders that ruled with a fascist ideology that proved useful for Washington’s geopolitical interests,” independent researcher and writer Timothy Alexander Guzman told Sputnik.

After the US sponsored Putch in Ukraine in 2014, which threw the duly elected Yanukovich under the proverbial bus, and "installed" Poroshenko (the candy guy, remember?!?) in Kiev, with an election more crooked than a dog's hind leg, the Crimeans understood that there was no more a legitimate, national Ukrainian government.

So what did they do?!? They held two free, and fair, referundums, the first being to ask their citizens if they wanted to stay in Ukraine, or join the Russian Federation. Overwhelmingly, Crimea's citizens wanted to join the Russian Federation. After that, the Russian Federation, agreed, and Crimea became a part of the Russian Federation.

But because of wanting to keep the optics negative on "Bad Russia, it annexed Crimea!" the US, and Ukrainian governments refuse to call it "an act of peaceful self-determination", which it was, and which is enshrined in the UN Charter, to which Ukraine and the US are both (allegedly) signatories.

But two things are powerfully clear here; the US government lies consistently, and regime changes other countries to suit its geopolitical agenda, and even with the US weapons, the Ukrainian military are going to be utterly no match for what the Russians will give their soldiers, potentially fighting in Eastern Ukraine.

Investigative journalist Robert Parry reveals how US-funded political NGOs and media companies have emerged since the 1980s, replacing the CIA in promoting America’s geopolitical agenda abroad.

As Russia-Insider details, Ukraine on Fire provides a historical perspective for the deep divisions in the region which led to the 2004 Orange Revolution, the 2014 uprisings, and the violent overthrow of democratically-elected Yanukovych. Covered by Western media as a 'popular revolution', it was in fact a coup d'état scripted and staged by ultra-nationalist groups and the US State Department.

Syria Vows To Shoot Down Turkish Jets As Erdogan Orders Putin "Do Not Oppose" Assault

According to the Associated Press, this morning Syria said it would shoot down any Turkish jets carrying out attacks inside Syria. This comes as preparations continue for an imminent large-scale Turkish attack of Kurdish militia groups currently holding Afrin near the Turkish border.

Multiple regional outlets have confirmed a build-up of forces that could constitute the largest external intervening force thus far in the entirety of the Syrian war, including special forces troops, Army units, Turkish-backed Syrian rebels and Turkey's air force.

Trump says Russia is helping North Korea skirt international sanctions and undoing the help China is giving the U.S. as Kim inches closer to having nuclear missiles

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday Russia is helping North Korea get supplies in violation of international sanctions and that Pyongyang is getting 'closer every day' to being able to deliver a long-range missile to the United States.

'Russia is not helping us at all with North Korea,' Trump said during an Oval Office interview with Reuters. 'What China is helping us with, Russia is denting. In other words, Russia is making up for some of what China is doing.'

Today, the Kremlin bit back with Moscow calling the allegation that it is in breach of UN sanctions on North Korea as 'absolutely groundless'.

The reaction came from an unnamed source at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

With North Korea persisting as the major global challenge facing Trump this year, the president cast doubt during the 53-minute interview on whether talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would be useful. In the past he has not ruled out direct talks with Kim.

Tillerson: US Troops Will Remain in Syria to Stop Resurrection of Daesh

The diplomatic efforts of the United States in Syria will focus on stabilization measures and a political solution to the conflict there, but not on nation-building, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in a speech on the US strategy in Syria.

Meanwhile, the United States has sent additional diplomats to Syria since May to help address the country's conflict, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson stressed in a speech.

"Since May, the United States has deployed additional diplomats to the affected areas in Syria working with the United Nations, our partners in the global coalition to defeat ISIS [Daesh] and various non-governmental organizations," Tillerson said.

Moreover, US Secretary of State said that the United States would maintain a military presence in Syria to ensure that the Daesh terror group does not re-emerge in the country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Rex, Rex, Rex, Rex, Rex, Rex!!!!

Forgive me, sir, but in what alternative, fact-free universe do you continue to live, sir?!?

At the behest of the Syrian Government, Russian troops have made absolute mincemeat out of Daesh, sending them collectively scurrying out of Syria with their collective tails between their legs. But there is one thing you have chosen, very carefully , to leave out of your speech, verified in a number of articles in the international press:

In secret deal, President Trump Allowed ISIS fighters safe passage out of Raqqa

Video emerges: US allowing ISIS fighters to escape safely from Syria

Trump enrages Turkey; lest hundreds of Islamic State members to leave Raqqa.

US airlifts ISIS/Daesh terrorists out of Syria for the 2nd time in a week

And last, but not least, validated earlier this month:Images: US creates safe passage for Daesh out of Syria

Can you say, "collusion", Secretary of State Tillerson?!? Wow! I knew you could!!

Oh, and on to another related story:

Syrian Arby vow to end US presence in Syria

The Syrians have been working very successfully with Russian troops to get Daesh out of Syria.

So I must ask, Secretary of State Tillerson; are the 30,000 troops in Syria the "sacrificial lambs" to be used to create a false flag against Russia, as a pretext for war against it?

Because right now, in light of the documented reality that the US goverment has been in collusion with, and supporting Daesh, militarily and financially, I can come up with no other reasonable explanation for their presence here.

Why Russia is Building Its Own Internet

Last November, news emerged that Russian president Vladimir Putin had approved a plan to create an independent Internet by 1 August 2018, first reported by the Russian news agency, RT. The alternate Internet would be used by BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—and shield them from “possible external influence,” the Kremlin’s press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, told RT.

Russian Evening News Exposes Monsanto's Evil Methods (Video)

"The Kiev government also plans to sell 10.5 million hectares of land to foreign companies, which is 1/9 of Europe's arable land. It is possible that a lion's share will go to Monsanto." The EU has just extended a contract with Monsanto for five more years despite the history of problems caused by their pesticides. This decision was carried out against the will of the people. In the following clip (with text below) Russia's top news anchor tears into both Monsanto and the corrupt politicians who collaboratively awarded them major agricultural contracts impacting the majority of Europe. The correspondent then shows us the tragic human cost of Monsanto's deadly products...

It's Time to Drop the Jew Taboo

It's making serious discussion of Russian geopolitics and history next to impossible. Most people know about, but few are willing to condemn, the strict taboo in the media, of criticizing Jews as a group, using that term. One cannot even criticize a small subsection of Jews, a miniscule percentage of the Jewish population, even when they richly deserve it. Obviously, this is a ridiculous way to run a publication whose object is to get to the truth, so I am writing this to explain why, from now on, the pages of Russia Insider will be open to articles which fairly and honestly address the influence of Jewish elites, including pointing out when it is malevolent, which it often is, and try to understand it and explain it, with malice towards none. I have become convinced that unless we break this taboo, nothing will improve in the human catastrophe unfolding in geopolitics.

Ukraine expresses unilateral position designating Russia as aggressor

Ukraine has expressed its unilateral position designating Russia as an aggressor in the Donbass reintegration law, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) on Thursday, Head of the Ukrainian Institute for Analysis and Political Management Ruslan Bortnik told TASS. "From the legal standpoint, the Rada’s designation of Russia as an aggressor will do nothing on the international level, particularly as far as the United Nations Security Council is concerned, because it is Ukraine’s unilateral position," he said.

Ukraine refuses to terminate diplomatic relations with Russia

Deputies of the Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) voted against the adoption of an amendment to the law on the reintegration of the Donbass. The amendment provides for the total break up of diplomatic relations with Russia. During the vote, only 72 Ukrainian MPs spoke in favour of the amendment with the necessary minimum of 226 votes. Earlier, a group of Ukrainian MPs offered to oblige the government of Ukraine to initiate a break up of diplomatic relations with the "aggressor state" to thus terminate the protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Russia from 1992. Prior to the vote, it became known that the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko faction in the Ukrainian Parliament did not support the amendment, according to which MPs wanted to oblige the government to terminate diplomatic relations with Russia. Ukraine first announced its intention to terminate diplomatic relations with Russia after Russia reunited with the Crimea.

Three scenarios of new super sanctions against Russia published

The head of the Russian Finance Ministry, Anton Siluanov, said that the Americans would suffer additional losses if they impose sanctions on Russia's public debt. Analysts expect that Washington will opt for a moderate version of sanctions against Russia. According to Siluanov, foreign investors will be the first to suffer from the imposition of sanctions against the Russian public debt. Should the purchase of Russian government bonds be banned, foreign buyers of the Russian public debt, who have invested $25 billion in federal bonds in the last two years, will lose their revenues. According to Alor Broker analysts, one may consider "positive," "moderate" and "negative" development. In the first case, sanctions will be expanded solely by including new individuals and entities on sanctioned lists. This option will not entail restrictions on federal bonds deals in February.

USA to crush Russia's space industry in 2019

Journalist Matthew Bodner suggested in his column for Space News that Russia's state-run space corporation Roscosmos could find itself in a very difficult financial situation if the US refuses to buy both seats on manned Soyuz spaceships and engines for Atlas 5 rockets from Russia. The author refers to Russian analyst Pavel Luzin, who claimed that about 50 percent of the budget of Roscosmos for the Federal Space Program for 2016-2025 (1.4 trillion rubles or $24 billion) is devoted to manned programs. In 2018, the cost of one ticket to space for a US astronaut on board the Soyuz spaceship will grow to $81 million. Thus, every American astronaut contributes up to five percent of Roscosmos annual budget, Luzin assumed. In 2019, NASA plans to stop buying seats on Soyuz. However, Bodner wrote, Russian officials do not seem to care much about the impending crisis.

It's All Right Ma... I'm Only Bleeding!

Many thanks to Bob Dylan's great song of the same name. What rankles me is how so many of my friends, neighbors and acquaintances seem to accept how far down the rabbit hole our Amerikan society has fallen. We live under the broken umbrella of an empire that cares not to protect the overwhelming majority of us. We live under the auspices of a regime that spends half or our hard earned tax dollars on phony wars, illegal foreign occupations and excessive militarism at home. Yet, most of the lemmings I cohabit with are only concerned about tripe news on sexual scandals and other base events that have nothing to do with their health or financial well being. For every person who can profit from this insane stock market run up, there are a thousand times more folks who are lucky to afford the bare necessities of life. Many of us, even we who earn more than the median income level, still walk around with missing teeth, knees and necks in need of operative repair and so on.

We Amerikans have become like those serfs on the feudal manors, working hard and still bowing and scraping when the lord of the manor passes>>>

Beijing blasts ‘illegal’ US & Canada-led summit for evoking Korean War ghosts

China has criticized the US and Canada for holding a summit of nations, most of which supported Seoul during the 1950s war on the Korean Peninsula, saying evoking Cold War ghosts has no place in the world today.

The summit in Vancouver brought together foreign ministers and top officials from 20 nations, who agreed to ramp up pressure on Pyongyang through additional economic sanctions on top of those imposed by the UN Security Council. China and Russia, which both border North Korea and are major players in the ongoing crisis, were not invited.

Commenting on the results of the event, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang dismissed the summit, saying it “has not the slightest legality and representativeness to speak of.”

Russia Begins Massive ICBM Launch Drills

On Monday, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation issued a warning to NATO that is has started a massive missile drill involving truck-mounted intercontinental ballistic missile launchers across the country.

The Defense Ministry said the drills would involve “missile regiments armed with Topol-M and Yars mobile systems.” The Topol-M is designed to launch an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tipped with a single 550 kT yield nuclear warhead. Max range of the ICBM is 6,500 miles, which the mobile launching unit is extremely tough for NATO to track.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With all the potential for conflict with NATO, and/or the US goverment, raging from Eastern Europe to the 'Stans, North Korea and Syria, the timing of these drills is an warning here in and of itself.

Lavrov: Russia, China urge freeze to any confrontation on Korean Peninsula

A military solution to the Korean crisis would lead to catastrophic consequences, the Russian foreign minister said, adding that Russia and China reiterate their call to freeze the confrontation and military drills in the area.
RT's LIVE UPDATES on Lavrov's annual press Q&A

The Russian foreign minister spoke about the Russian-Chinese roadmap for a resolution to the crisis on the Korean Peninsula during his annual press Q&A on Monday. Moscow and Beijing have called on all parties to “calm down” and freeze any military activities, including North Korean missile tests and US drills in the area with South Korea and Japan.

“I have already mentioned that the United States almost openly speaks about the inevitability of a military solution, although everyone understands the disastrous consequences of this gamble,” Lavrov stated.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Of course, what China and Russia are advocating is perfectly, completely logical... which is why the US government and military are objecting to it outright!!

US-Backed Syrian Kurds Mobilize Civilians, Turkey May Attack ‘At Any Moment’

The Kurdish YPG is scrambling to raise its civilian population into an irregular force in the Afrin District of Northern Syria, desperately trying to shore up defenses ahead of a Turkish invasion which officials say could happen “at any moment.”

Turkey’s President Erdogan vowed such an invasion over the weekend, and has been talking it up ever since, insisting now that Turkey needs to not only take Afrin, but to strangle the US-backed border army before it is fully operational.

The US has said the border force will be 30,000-strong, and Erdogan is loudly opposed to the idea, calling it a “terror army,” and insisting that the only reason to establish such a border force would be to attack Turkey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

War with Turkey (and, potentially, Russia) over Northern Syria?!?

This is completely insane, on the part of all parties, except for Syria, which simply wants to be left alone, and Russia, which severely frowns on this illegal occupation on the part of the US.

This could go absolutely out of control at any moment. Let us hope that some adults in the room (Namely, Putin and Lavrov) can ratchet down the tensions before this escalates past the point of no return.

Syrian Army Vow to End US Presence in Syria

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has responded negatively to the US pledge to create a new “border” force in northern Syria of some 30,000 US-backed fighters, saying not only are they violating Syrian sovereignty, but the Syrian Army’s goal must be to end the US presence in the country outright.

Syria has long opposed the US military presence in the country, which was deployed without Syrian permission, and which Pentagon officials say will last long after the outright defeat of ISIS.

Whether the Syrians can do anything about it is another matter. The US presence in Syria is substantial, and backed by a large, heavily-armed Kurdish force. Despite the US deployment being plainly illegal, there’s no practical way to remove them by force.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The real question is, how long with the Russians put up with this American foolishness until they feel pressed to "do something militarily" to end it?!?

The drones against the Russian base have really backfired. Can you say Asymetrical Warfare?

The Turkish president has called US-backed Syrian Border Force using Kurdish fighters a “terrorist army,” vowing to “drown” it before it’s complete. He also added that military preparations against Kurdish-held Afrin are ready.

“Our duty is to drown this terrorist force before it is born,” the Turkish leader said on Monday, as cited by AP.

“This is what we have to say to all our allies: don't get between us and terrorist organizations, or we will not be responsible for the unwanted consequences,” Erdogan said, as cited by Turkish media. He added that Turkish forces will battle “until not a single terrorist remains along our borders, let alone 30,000 of them.”

US FORCING EUROPE TO ABANDON RUSSIAN GAS

US forcing Europe to abandon Russian gas & buy more expensive American LNG - Lavrov

The United States is afraid of fair competition in the energy sector, and is hampering the implementation of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"There is reprisal in the energy sector against North Stream 2. It is the US which is calling it politicized, leading to a split in Europe, and the strangling of Ukraine,” he said at a press conference on Monday.

“Washington clearly forces Europeans to abandon Nord Stream 2, despite the fact that gas deliveries to Germany via the pipeline could be 2,000km shorter than through Ukraine, and the cost of transit could be halved,” said the Russian diplomat.

Europeans “are being forced to buy much more expensive liquefied gas from the United States instead of Russian gas,” Lavrov added.

Russian Journalists Blow Lid Off Alleged US Terrorist Training Network in Syria

The Pentagon was forced to go into full public relations mode late last month amid fresh allegations by the Russian General Staff that US instructors were providing training assistance for some 350 ex-Daesh (ISIS) militants at the US Army's al-Tanf garrison in the southern Syrian province of Homs. Kremlin accuses U.S. of anti-Russia fearmongering after State Department travel warning

Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Friday accused the U.S. State Department of cultivating “blind fear of Russia among Americans” after the department issued a travel warning this week urging U.S. citizens to reconsider visits to the country.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova dismissed the travel warning, which included terrorism and harassment as serious concerns. She referred to it as an example of what the Kremlin has said repeatedly is a growing wave of Russophobia in Washington tied to allegations that Moscow interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.

"In our opinion, this is another unsubstantiated statement, whose primary goal is to trigger another round of anti-Russian hysteria in the U.S., and to cultivate blind fear of Russia among Americans," she said during her weekly news conference.

Netanyahu basically spelled out that Israel was the source of the intel Trump leaked to Russia

***
Speaking to a conference of NATO ambassadors on Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu all but spelled it out.

"When we talk about ISIS, it's important to understand that Israel helps Europe in two fundamental ways," Netanyahu said.

He continued: "The first is... we have, through our intelligence services, provided information that has stopped several dozen major terrorist attacks, many of them in European countries. Some of these could have been mass attacks, of the worst kind... even worse, because they involve civil aviation. Israel has prevented that, and thereby helped save many European lives."

Nowhere did Netanyahu say the word "laptops."

He also did not confirm Vanity Fair's November 2017 story about the daring raid by Mossad and IDF special forces deep into Syria to bug the ISIS cellphone from which IDF Unit 8200 reportedly eavesdropped in on the laptop plot.

But the reference to ISIS, attacks on Europe and civil aviation were undeniable.

Paul Craig Roberts: Another Step Toward Armageddon

The US military/security complex has taken another step toward Armageddon. The Pentagon has prepared a nuclear posture review (NPR) that gives the OK to development of smaller “useable” nuclear weapons and permits their use in response to a non-nuclear attack.

As Reagan and Gorbachev understood, but the warmongers who have taken over America do not, there are far too many nuclear weapons already. Some scientists have concluded that even the use of 10 percent of either the US or Russian arsenal would suffice to destroy life on earth.

It is reckless and irresponsible for Washington to make such a decision in the wake of years of aggressive actions taken against Russia.>>>

Russia Says It Knows Who Ordered The Mysterious Drone Attack On Their Base . . . And It Wasn't Turkey

By Brandon Turbeville

In the past few weeks the Russian Khmeimim Airbase in Lattakia, Syria has been attacked twice. Once, on New Year’s Eve, the base was attacked by terrorist infiltration squads armed with mortars. The attacks resulted in the death of two Russian soldiers and the damaging of a number of Russian aircraft. On January 6, the base was attacked again, this time by one of the weirdest operations of the last few years. The base came under fire by 13 armed drones who were either shot down or brought down by electronic warfare means by the Russian forces. Where these drones originated from, who operated them, and from where they were controlled are all mysteries...
