Phasing out the dollar: Russia significantly increases ruble share in export settlements with BRICS

Russia’s trade turnover with its partners from BRICS – Brazil, India, China, and South Africa – totaled $125 billion last year, according to data from international audit and consulting firm FinExpertiza.

Over the five-year period, the country’s share of export settlements in rubles with the bloc’s trade partners increased more than seven times to 6.3 billion in the dollar equivalent, data showed. Moscow also boosted the share of settlements in euro by almost eight times.

The share of payments in national currencies between the BRICS nations has also risen by more than three times to $2.7 billion.

“The share of settlements in dollars between the BRICS countries is systematically decreasing… In general, the share of US dollar in Russian exports to the BRICS countries declined by 20 percent, accounting for 77 percent, or $51 billion,” said the authors of the report.

Russia’s Khmeimim airbase shelled by DOZENS of rockets, attack repelled – MOD

Syrian militants fired 36 rockets at Russia’s Khmeimim airbase in two attacks on Monday, but both were repelled by the air defenses with no damage dealt, the Russian military said, adding that jets launched strikes in response.
The shelling came from the Idlib de-escalation zone, controlled by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group (formerly known as Al-Nusra Front), the head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, Maj. Gen. Viktor Kupchishin, said.

The militants used a drone to direct the fire from multiple launch rocket systems, but the attacks were repelled by Khmeimim’s air defense systems.

Russia urges US to cancel ‘irresponsible’ plans for regime change in Venezuela

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has condemned Washington’s “unprecedented campaign” and “irresponsible plans” aimed at toppling the legitimate government of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

“We see an unprecedented US-led campaign aimed at toppling the lawful authority in Venezuela. We condemn this campaign as a blatant violation of all the international laws secured by the UN Charter," Lavrov said at the beginning of a Sunday meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart Jorge Arreaza in Moscow.

“We call on the Americans and all (the countries) who support them to cancel irresponsible plans and act strictly according to the international legislation, as President (Vladimir) Putin said a couple of days ago in a phone conversation with President (Donald) Trump,” he added.

Lavrov is travelling on Monday to Finland, where he is expected to hold rare face-to-face talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Remains of Burnt Plane Being Taken Out of Sheremetyevo Airport

An Aeroflot-operated SSJ100 caught fire at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on Sunday after making an emergency landing; 41 people were killed in the tragedy. The aircraft was bound for the northern Russian city of Murmansk.

The burnt Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) aircraft is being taken out of Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on 6 May, following a tragedy that claimed the lives of 41 people.

The SSJ100 had to make an emergency landing at Sheremetyevo International Airport due to a fire on board that ultimately burned the aircraft up. Russia's flagship carrier Aeroflot confirmed that the fire was extinguished.

Trump contradicts Bolton, Pompeo on military option against Venezuela

US President Donald Trump has contradicted his national security team on pushing for a military intervention against Venezuela, saying he and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin share the goal of a peaceful end to the crisis in the Central American nation.

"He is not looking at all to get involved in Venezuela, other than he'd like to see something positive happen for Venezuela, and I feel the same way. We want to get some humanitarian aid. Right now people are starving," Trump told reporters on Friday.

Trump's reference to Russia’s hands-off approach towards Venezuela stands in contrast to insistence by his Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that Russia is part of the problem in Caracas. Pompeo claimed earlier last week that President Nicolás Maduro was about to flee Venezuela until Russia persuaded him to stay.

Breaking: Syrian Army captures strategic hilltop to cutoff militant supply route along Idlib-Hama axis

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:00 P.M.) – The jihadist and Turkish-backed rebels launched a counter-offensive along the Idlib-Hama axis, today, after the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) kicked off their operation along the demilitarized zone.

However, their counter-offensive would be short lived, thanks in large part to the Syrian Arab Army’s artillery units and air force.

Following the failed counter-offensive by the militants, the Syrian Arab Army retook the initiative to capture the key hilltop of Tal Uthman near the town of Kafr Naboudeh.

US attempt to topple Venezuelan govt by force would lead to grave consequences – Lavrov

Washington’s “irresponsible” plan to overthrow the Caracas government by force would result in a catastrophe, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned, calling on the US to stick to the international law on Venezuela.

Lavrov denounced “an unprecedented campaign led by the US and aimed at toppling Venezuela’s legitimate government.” What Venezuela needs right now is political dialogue, not power grab attempts, the Russian minister said.

Churchill Sent 2 Mil Russian Refugees to Certain Death at End of WWII

We recently stumbled across this remarkable article from 1988! in the journal Imprimis, and when we read it, we could scarcely believe our eyes. When we started asking people about it, we heard different things - one person said this has been disproven, others said it was true and that they knew eye-witnesses who were deported.

Apparently the British government sued Tolstoy when he made these charges in an attempt to shut him up. We don't know if the charges are true or not, but it makes for extraordinary reading, and I appeal to people who know something about this to please help us fill out our knowledge in the comments section below. It is situations like this where our commentors are simply invaluable.

How Russia Became Involved with Ukraine Part 3

Despite being vastly outgunned and out-manned by Ukrainian ultra-right militias and the Ukrainian military, Eastern Ukrainians were managing to not only defend themselves but also to drive Western Ukrainian forces back. This led many to speculate as to whether or not Russia had committed troops to support the Eastern Ukrainian rebels against Kiev. Western media and the governments it speaks for began crowing about Russian troops in Ukraine and “Russian aggression.” Russia, for its part, denied any involvement beyond humanitarian shipments to civilians.

The truth is somewhat murkier, however.

While Russian involvement at this point has been completely defensive, there is also undoubtedly Russian involvement.

Lindsey Graham Wants Aircraft Carrier To Confront Russians & Cubans In Venezuela

No, it doesn't appear to be mere hyperbole, considering it's the well-known neocon uber-hawk senator from South Carolina, who like the late John McCain would never waist precious opportunity to put the USA firmly on the war path.

Addressing recent reports that Cuba and Russia have sent troops to Venezuela to prop up embattled President Nicolas Maduro, Sen. Lindsey Graham angrily tweeted Friday, "Where is our aircraft carrier?"

MSM melts down as Trump talks Venezuela with Putin… and ‘feels same way’

America's most trusted talking heads are in meltdown mode, once again accusing Donald Trump of taking orders from Vladimir Putin, after the US leader was seemingly too soft with the Russian president in a recent phone call.

Rachel Maddow, Jake Tapper, and other spirited Russiagate promoters suffered full-on meltdowns upon learning that Trump apparently hadn’t ‘properly' discussed the issue of “election meddling” in his first phone call with Vladimir Putin since the Mueller report's release.

Rather, the two leaders spoke about "trade, Venezuela, Ukraine, North Korea, nuclear arms control" and "the Russian hoax" during the hour-long call, according to Trump's tweet.

Russia expands ties in Lebanon’s oil, gas sector

BEIRUT — During a Middle East tour last month, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo focused primarily on Iran’s influence in the region, but on Mar. 20 in Jerusalem he also labeled Russia an adversary of US regional allies in addition to Iran and China when speaking about energy and security in the eastern Mediterranean. “Revisionist powers like Iran and Russia and China are all trying to take major footholds in the East and in the West,” Pompeo said, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the leaders of Greece and Cyprus.

MAJOR: Russia Forms Coalition Of Nations To BLOCK U.S Intervention In Venezuela

Russia is creating a group of countries at the United Nations to contain US plans for possible intervention in Venezuela, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday.

“We are mobilizing a group of countries that, like us, respect the UN Charter, to neutralize these plans,” he said when asked by the press about the Russian reaction to a possible US invasion of Venezuela.

According to Lavrov, Moscow hopes that this group will be able to attract considerable support from other members, since the aim of this mobilization is extremely simple: “to uphold the norms and fundamental principles of international law set out in the UN Charter.”

Orwellian Cloud Hovers Over Russia-gate

George Orwell would have been in stitches Wednesday watching Attorney General William Barr and members of the Senate Judiciary Committee spar on Russia-gate. The hearing had the hallmarks of the intentionally or naively blind leading the blind with political shamelessness.

From time to time the discussion turned to the absence of a legal “predicate” to investigate President Donald Trump for colluding with Russia. That is, of course, important; and we can expect to hear a lot more about that in coming months.

More important: what remains unacknowledged is the absence of an evidence-based major premise that should have been in place to anchor the rhetoric and accusations about Russia-gate over the past three years. With a lack of evidence sufficient to support a major premise, any syllogism falls of its own weight.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Russiagate was a lie from inception to its agonizingly slow death, as of the end of last week; the American people do not like to be lied to.

For all those players who believed that the Dementocrats were so clever, to have come up with this, a word of caution; Russiagate is about to explode like a bad trick cigar.

And when that happens, there is no one the Democrats can run in 2020 who will be able to save it from another massive route.

Trump, Putin Speak on Phone for Over an HourWhite House: Primary focus of talks was Venezuela

President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone for over an hour on Friday, a significant occurrence for an administration that has been very reticent to engage in dialogues with Russia.

According to White House officials, the focus of the talks was on Venezuela, with Trump making it clear that the “United States stands with the people of Venezuela,” which of course means regime change.

Russia obviously would’ve been aware of that position already, since we’re just days out from a failed US-backed coup in Venezuela. It’s not clear what specifics would have been focused on, but some US officials were blaming Russia for the coup’s failure, which may have been a topic of discussion.

Russia has been backing the Maduro government in Venezuela, while the US has long sought regime change, and since January has recognized the nation’s opposition leader as the rightful president.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And I will be willing to bet one thing; both Putin and Trump probably spoke in English, with no translator needed, as Putin's English is just as polished as is his German.

On the issues of both Venezuela and North Korea, President Trump appears to be consistently tone-deaf to any suggestions any US flexibility on foreign policy.

This is profoundly unfortunate, because more and more, the optics of President Trump's foreign policy appear to make him both the "Thug in Chief", and "Merchant of Death in Chief", in his hawking of American weaponry to countries like Saudi Arabia (which are being used, BTW, in genocidal Crimes against Humanity in Yemen).

Russia extends fast track to citizenship offer to more Ukrainians in escalating passport row

More Ukrainian citizens will be eligible to apply for Russian citizenship under a fast-track procedure starting Wednesday. Moscow and Kiev have been verbally sparring over the issue for a week now.

Last Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree, which allowed people living in rebel-held parts of eastern Ukraine to apply for Russian citizenship under a simplified procedure. The move was justified by humanitarian reasons, Moscow explained, but Kiev denounced it as an act of aggression. The situation even ignited a verbal duel through the media between Putin and Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Russian leader upped the ante by saying the same fast-track option may be offered to all Ukrainian citizens and now seems to have partially delivered on the promise by signing a new decree, which made more Ukrainian citizens eligible for the program.

Russia Sends China Replacements for Storm-Damaged S-400 Missiles - Reports

Replacement missiles for the S-400 anti-air missile system sold to China by Russia last year have been sent, according to media reports. Some of the system’s missiles and other equipment were damaged in a storm in the English Channel in December 2017.

The replacement missiles departed from Russia at the beginning of April, The Diplomat reported, citing Russian military diplomatic sources. It's not known how many of the interceptors were damaged and required replacement.

Beijing bought six units of the advanced anti-air interceptor system in 2015 for $3 billion, but the first batch was delivered only in April 2018, following several months of delays caused by a storm in the English Channel in December 2017. The tempest damaged several components of the system, including some of the missiles and auxiliary equipment, causing the ship to turn back, Sputnik reported, citing Russia's defense industry cooperation service.

Russia has NUKES in Venezuela? Fox News seemingly misrepresents guest’s claim

If there was a clickbait headline competition, Fox News has just produced one that could easily win it. The network said one of its guests believes Russia has nuclear missiles in Venezuela, and presumably no one but him noticed.

To be clear, there are no Russian nukes in Venezuela, as far as any open evidence or official statements go. Representative Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida, whose appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight on Tuesday sparked the flashy headline, doesn’t appear to believe there are any either. But that doesn’t stop a really determined traffic-hungry editor from insinuating the opposite.

Trump Warns Russia to ‘Get Out’ of Venezuela

President Trump suggested on Wednesday that his administration had warned the Russian government to stay out of Venezuela after two Russian planes carrying military personnel arrived in Caracas this week, a move that places another significant obstacle in the White House’s slow-moving effort to oust President Nicolás Maduro.

During an Oval Office meeting with Fabiana Rosales, the wife of Juan Guaidó, the Venezuelan National Assembly politician recognized by the Trump administration and 50 other countries as the rightful interim president, Mr. Trump said that Russia needed to see its way out of the conflict.

“Russia has to get out. What’s your next question?” Mr. Trump told reporters.

Russian and US Positions on Venezuelan Crisis are Incompatible - Lavrov

On Wednesday, the Russian foreign minister spoke to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, telling the top US diplomat that Washington's interference in Venezuela's affairs was a destructive approach fraught with "the most serious consequences."

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov urged the United States to refrain from returning to the imperious 'Monroe Doctrine' in its relations with Venezuela, and indicated that while the Russian and US positions on the crisis in the Latin American country remain incompatible, dialogue must continue.

"We agreed to maintain contacts, including on Venezuela, but I don't see a way to reconcile our positions — ours, on the one hand, which is based on the UN Charter and the principles and norms of international law, and that of the United States, on the other, in which Washington assigns the acting president of another country," Lavrov said, speaking to reporters in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Thursday.

Early this week Chinese media confirmed that Russian warships arrived in Qingdao, a port city in East China's Shandong Province, at the start this week's join China-Russia naval exercises.

The Russian fleet included the Varyag guided missile cruiser, a submarine, two anti-submarine ships, a corvette, a landing ship, a tanker and a rescue vessel, according to China's Global Times.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please, LORD, let nothing go wrong in any of these exercises, or from the two US carriers now passing off the coast of Taiwan.

As someone celebrating her 70th birthday next week, I have rarely seen a time in American history, where things just seem to be drifting towards a war, and possibly a global war at that.

It's kind of like that archetypal dream, about two trains, running head long , right at each other on the same track, and not being able to stop them.

What do I want of my government?!? That it actually does start indulging in moral, thoughtful, hard-won negotiations with China and Russia; you know, those kinds of actions which deepen confidence and trust?!?

I am absolutely sure that if I spoke Russian, or Cantonese, and could speak to mothers of kids who just got drafted into either country's military (or perhaps enlisted), they would be both very proud of their kids' participation in those armies, but would agree with me, that peace; the rule of law; commerce; and intelligent, thoughtful planning, need to reign in human society.

Otherwise, humankind may just blow itself to kingdom come, and leave a fractured, horrific planet in its wake, incapable of regrowth or rebirth.

Unfortunately, those in the Bowels of Power in DC, do not seem to understand this right now. And the only modalities they seem to believe will work, in a desperate attempt to stabilize the US economy, are to continue to expropriate resources to which they have no moral right, and insure that they are sold only in US dollars.

Their tools right now are are demonisation; destabilization; and wars to insure the "end game" winds up entirely positively for the US government.

But the problem with this attitude, which comes to us from the great Greek storytellers, is hubris; an over-arching pride which makes one believe that you can do anything you want, without any moral, or physical, repercussions happening at all.

Unfortunately, the real world does not ultimately work in this manner; there is a cost, or costs to specific actions and choice, which can be horrendous.

The casualty counts in current US declared, and undeclared wars, is staggering, both for the indigenous people who live there, and our troops.

And the broken lives, and bodies, again, of both the people we are bombing, and our troops, who wind up maimed for life, from these wars, suggest a better, more peace-centric process is desperately needed by the US government, and to work to stay away from wars as its "only solution" to geopolitical and economic challenges.

US Troops In Syria For "Long Haul" Atop "A Lot Of Oil Resources": Pentagon Official

A high level Pentagon official has admitted that US forces will be in Syria for "the long haul" and coupled his statement by declaring the territory contains “a lot of the oil resources and arable land.”

The unusually frank remarks were made this week by Michael Mulroy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for the Middle East, while addressing a conference at the D.C. based Center for a New American Security (CNAS), months after President Trump appeared to have caved to his advisers, reversing course earlier this year from his stated goal of a full and rapid US troop exit from Syria.

Mulroy said “we have a very capable partner” — in reference to the primarily Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) — and quickly noted the US-trained SDF happens to occupy key regions in eastern Syria with "a lot of the oil resources and arable land," and added that, "we are there with them".

Webmaster's Commentary:

Wait a minute; the US military is actually occupying over 1/3rd of the sovereign country of Syria?!?

The question that the Pentagon, State Department, and the Executive Office need to ask, is, how long will it be, before Russian forces, carrying out Putin's orders, drive them out?!?

If I were a Federal official, this would be the question that would be keeping me up at night.

Russia has secretly installed nuke missiles in Venezuela, US politician claims in chilling echo of Cuban Missile Crisis

Diaz-Balart told Fox News if Maduro stays in power it could be "an open door for the Russians and for the Chinese and for others to increase their activity against our national security interest."

Journalist Tucker Carlson then asked: "Are you suggesting they are going to invade?”

“The closest we ever came to nuclear war was because the Russians put missiles, right, nuclear missiles in Cuba,” replied Diaz-Balart.

“Are you saying the Russians will put nuclear missiles in Venezuela?” Carlson asked.

“What I am suggesting is that they are already there,” answered Diaz-Balart, without offering any evidence to back up his claim.

Venezuela Coup? "Live Fire" Exchanged Outside Contested Air Base, Armored Car Plows Into Protesters

update 5: As predicted, what Guaido dubbed “Operation Liberty” — a full on coup attempt for which he appealed for Venezuela's military to rise up against Maduro — appears to have failed to achieve significant momentum, given Caracas officials are taking to the air waves to declare the "mediocre" coup attempt successfully put down.

“A mediocre coup d'etat attempt has failed,” said defense minister Vladimir Padrino on a state radio broadcast Tuesday afternoon, following prior statements saying he was ready put down the rebellion by force. And in a television appearance Padrino further called the day's events "ridiculous".

Meanwhile national security advisor John Bolton has stated this is "not a coup" given that the US already sees opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country's president. Bolton said of the rapidly unfolding and increasingly violent events that "it is not a coup for Juan Guaido to try and take command of the Venezuelan military."

Donald J. Trump
?

Webmaster's Commentary:

No, Mr. President: this country does NOT stand for the Freedom of the Venezuelan people; it stands for controlling their massive oil reserves, and insuring that Venezuela's oil will only be sold for US dollars.

I have heard the soundbite "Everything is on the table", floated as a description of further potential ways for the US to get Maduro out of power, whatever they may be.

War against Venezuela for its oil?!?

Right now, I would not bet against it.

But were I in the Pentagon "war room", I would have to ask; "If we invade, what will Russia, which already has troops in position, decide to do?"

This could get ugly, quickly, and in ways for which the US government perhaps has not either thought through, or didn't consider: and that, folks, is what concerns me most.

The War on Syria Continues. Iran Is Next?

The war on Syria is not over. Western -supported terrorists still occupy Idlib, as well as al Tanif, and strategic resource-rich areas East of the Euphrates. The Al- Rukban concentration camp[1] still holds about 40,000 desperate and dying captives, and the Al-Hawl camp[2] holds 73,000 captives.

The West’s terrorists are expendable, but the West supports them all, including al Qaeda, ISIS, and the YPG/SDF terrorists.

Under the familiar pretense of “going after ISIS”, the Western coalition carpet bombed Raqqa, shipped ISIS out, and re-occupied the ruins with SDF proxies – occupiers posing as liberators.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am hoping and praying that the US, and Israeli governments , will not be so stupid as to believe, for one second, that they can conquer Iran, either militarily, or with some form of regime change.

If Russia thinks, for one second, that Iran is headed toward a crisis, my bet would be under threat from harm, they may immediately start propping up Iran with their own military and weaponry.

As we have seen from incredible performances by Russian military and their weaponry in Syria, the Russians have both the person-power,and weapons, to keep the Israelis and US forces at bay.

US dollar losing luster in Russia’s foreign trade despite sanctions: Intl. audit firm

An international audit firm says Russia has successfully managed to decrease the use of US dollar in its settlements with its foreign trade partners, significantly increasing the number of deals in Russian rubles and euro.

“Tendency towards doing away with the US dollar on foreign trade is obvious. This is the way to a more stable economy and protection of it against sanctions,” said Elena Trubnikova, chairwoman of the board of FinExpertiza, a Russian network of professional audit, valuation and consulting firms, on Monday.

“This is mostly true for exports, as selling the goods for the national currency of the exporter is a natural order of things,” the RIA-Novosti further quoted her as saying.

According to a research conducted by the Moscow-based consultancy network, the share of settlements in Russia’s foreign trade using the US currency have been reduced by 12.6 percent between 2013, before Western sanctions were introduced against Russia, through 2018.

Iran, Russia navies to stage joint drill in Persian Gulf

Iranian and Russian military forces will stage a rare naval drill in the Persian Gulf later this year, the commander of Iran’s Navy has announced.

Rear-Admiral Hossein Khanzadi made the announcement during a press conference on Monday upon return to Tehran from a high-profile visit to China, where he met with his counterparts from other countries.

“Our negotiations with Russia revolved mostly around technical and operational topics and we plan to hold a joint naval exercise” this year, he said.

While Iranian and Russian naval forces have in the past trained together in the Caspian Sea, the upcoming Persian Gulf drill is expected to take bilateral cooperation to a new level.

The announcement comes at a time when Iran has threatened to close the Hormuz Strait, a strategic chokepoint through which a large chunk of world’s oil transits every day, in response to threats by the United States to zero out Tehran’s crude exports.

‘If transit of Russian gas through Ukraine stops, there will be no reverse’ – Putin

Ukraine still heavily relies on Russian gas, therefore it won’t be able to use reverse flows if the gas transit stops completely, Vladimir Putin said. As of now, the reverse gas flows “exist only on paper.”

There are no real reverse flows of gas in Ukraine, Putin said, adding that “if there’s no transit, there’re also no gas supplies.” He was apparently referring to reports that Ukraine continues to buy reverse supplies of Russian gas at a higher price from European nations.

The Russian president said that Ukraine is buying gas at twice the price it could have paid. Meanwhile, Kiev is “fooling around” instead of coming to terms with the conditions of gas transit decided by Moscow. Eventually, it is the Ukrainian taxpayer who suffers the most, Putin argued.

Kiev troops shell Donetsk water filtration plant area

The Ukrainian armed forces shelled the outskirts of the Donetsk water filtration plant in eastern Ukraine late on Friday, prompting the evacuation of personnel, an official from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic has said.

"The armed forces of Ukraine opened fire toward Yasinovataya. The zone of shelling included the outskirts of the Donetsk water filtration station. The Ukrainian troops continue mortar fire, the personnel has taken shelter. To date, a total of 35 120-mm mortar rounds have been fired. The damage is being assessed," the head of the DPR mission to the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC), Ruslan Yakubov, said.

BOLTON CALLS ON VENEZUELAN MILITARY TO ‘PROTECT THE CONSTITUTION’ BY BACKING GUAIDO COUP ATTEMPT

US National Security Advisor John Bolton called on Venezuela’s military to side with Washington protégé Juan Guaido, after the opposition leader declared a military coup in Caracas on Tuesday.
Bolton, one of the leading US figures in the operation to topple the Venezuelan government, called on Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino to side with Guaido, claiming this would protect Venezuela’s constitution.

.@vladimirpadrino: The FANB must protect the Constitution and the Venezuelan people. It should stand by the National Assembly and the legitimate institutions against the usurpation of democracy. The United States stands with the people of Venezuela.

— John Bolton (@AmbJohnBolton) April 30, 2019
Padrino earlier rejected Guaido as a traitor and said on Twitter that the national armed forces (FANB) were loyal to the legitimate President Nicolas Maduro.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The whole world knows what the US wants out of this; massive access to Venezuela's oil reserves, particularly those found in the Orinoco coastal planes.Venezuelan oil reserves in the Orinoco peninsula

And Mr. Bolton, just stop talking, please; your opening your mouth and attempting to justify this coup, is so rottenly hypocritical, that it is making a huge number of Americans collectively nauseous, right before breakfast.

This is NOT about protecting the Venezuela Constitution, and you know it damned well.

It is about access to, control of, and making sure that Venezuela's oil reserves are only sold in American dollars.

Do you really think that you can continue to lie to the American people, and get away with it, after Bush's debacle on "Saddam's nuclear weapons of mass destruction"?!??

Wrong is what most of thinking people in this country understand you to be, on nearly every foreign policy decision you make; but wrong, AND colossally stupid at the same time, sir?

THAT... is a bridge too far, Mr. Bolton.

And BTW, just what are the orders of the Russian troops, already in Venezuela?!?Perhaps, to protect President Maduro from harm at all times?!?

You, sir, have, almost single-handedly, have created a trap for American military either already in Venezuela, or positioned to go, at a moment's
notice; this will be a war of attrition in an environment where the American military historically doesn't do anywhere near as well as they do in a desert environment.

Congratulations, for creating the 21st century's Vietnam, Mr. Bolton; you must be, as always, amply proud of yourself for these decisions, leading the US to the brink of war in Venezuela, and potentially Russia.

Russia Ready to Discuss New Nuclear Deal With US, China

One day after reports that President Trump was pushing for a new nuclear arms treaty with Russia and China, the Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a statement confirming that they, too, are willing to negotiate on the matter. China has yet to directly respond.

Yesterday’s report suggested that Trump’s primary goal for any treaty was to place new limits on Russia’s nuclear arsenal. Russia’s Deputy FM Sergei Ryabkov said that Russia wants a joint statement of all three nations repudiating any use of nuclear weapons.

Talk of new nuclear negotiations is a surprise after the US unilaterally withdrew from the Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty. Many feared this would usher in an era where disarmament talks just didn’t happen.

Putin makes first comments on Russian agent jailed in US

Russian President Vladimir Putin has made his first comment about a self-admitted Russia agent sentenced in the United States.

Putin’s Saturday comments in Beijing were made after Russian foreign agent Maria Butina was sentences to 18 months in prison.

"It's an outrage," Putin told reporters. "It's not clear what she was convicted of or what crime she committed. I think it's a prime example of 'saving face.' They arrested her and put the girl in jail. But there was nothing on her, so in order not to look totally stupid they gave her, fixed her up, with an 18-month sentence to show that she was guilty of something."

Putin says Russians and Ukrainians would benefit from shared citizenship: Ifax

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Russians and Ukrainians would only benefit from sharing common citizenship, the Interfax news agency reported.

Putin said on Saturday Moscow was considering offering all Ukrainian citizens fast-tracked Russian passports, a move that angered some politicians in Ukraine which has been at war with pro-Russian separatists since 2014.

Putin has already signed an order to simplify the procedure for obtaining a Russian passport for residents of separatist-controlled eastern Ukraine, prompting calls from Kiev for more international sanctions.

Ukrainian President-elect Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said that Putin should not expect many Ukrainians to take up his offer of a Russian passport, while offering Ukrainian citizenship to Russians.

Kim-Putin summit reaffirms onset of multipolar future

The summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and President Vladimir Putin was significant on various levels and reaffirms the onset of a multipolar world.

Knowing your enemies and understanding your friends is a maxim to live by. At the level of nation states, at a historic moment, defined by Gramsci’s rather overused but nonetheless prescient formulation, “the old is dying and the new cannot be born,” it is more than a rule to live by, it is a prerequisite of survival.

Failing to understand their enemies was central to the grim fate that befell Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddafi and the countries they led, Iraq and Libya. Thus far, the North Koreans, led by Kim Jong-un, have not allowed themselves to go down the same path.

Outbreak of over 12,000 cases of measles in Ukraine is caused by recent vaccination campaign?

In recent years there has been a shortage of measles vaccines in Ukraine. Vaccination rates had dropped to 31% in 2016 and were the lowest in Europe. And yet there were hardly any cases of measles. In 2017 sufficient vaccines became available for a ‘catch-up campaign’ and 90% of the children in Ukraine received the MMR. Since then there has been an explosion of cases of measles. The number has already surpassed 12,000! Why is the media ignoring the current outbreak of measles in Ukraine? And what is really going on?

Putin Shows Carrot and Stick to New Ukraine Leader

***
“We want and are prepared to fully normalize our relations, but we cannot do that unilaterally,” Mr. Putin said at a press conference in Vladivostok on Thursday, following a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Mr. Putin’s statements on Thursday came a day after he made it easier for residents of Ukraine’s separatist territories—a flashpoint in Moscow’s deteriorating relations with the West—to get Russian passports.

The maneuvers appeared designed to test Volodymyr Zelensky, a political newcomer, who has said he is willing to negotiate with Moscow, but who will need to navigate pitfalls when dealing with the politically shrewd Russian leader

U.S Ambassador Threatens War With Russia, Moscow Laughs-Off Empty Threat

Russia’s Foreign Ministry official Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that Moscow regrets that the “language of sanctions and threats” has become the “visiting card” of the United States.

In particular, the diplomat criticized the statements of the US ambassador to Russia, John Huntsman, who threatened Moscow with two North American aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean Sea. Hunstman had stated that each aircraft carrier represents one hundred thousand tons of international diplomacy and shows Russia that if it really hopes to improve relations with the US, it has to stop destabilizing activities around the world.

Putin's Envoy: Iranian Forces in Syria Remain 50 Miles Away From Israeli Border

***
Iranian forces in Syria remain around 80 kilometers (50 miles) away from the border with Israel despite Washington’s statement that it recognizes Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev told Sputnik in an interview.

“We have reached agreement with our Iranian friends that certain units that have been there [at the Syrian border with Israel] in order to ensure security of the southern de-escalation zone will be transferred to a safe distance, from 75 to 80 kilometers. They fulfill their promises,” Lavrentyev said, when asked if Trump’s statement had triggered the approaching of Iranian forces to the border.

In July 2018, Iran agreed, due to the Russian mediation, to move its units present in Syria away from the border with Israel by 85 kilometers, which significantly reduced Israeli concerns, according to the presidential envoy. The recent statement by US President Donald Trump on the US recognition of the Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, disputed between Israel and Syria, could have made Tehran change its decision>>>

Kim-Putin summit: What talks in Russia mean for US following Trump's Hanoi fiasco

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin is shrouded in the veil of political uncertainty, but analysts believe it could be a roundabout way to reboot denuclearization talks with the US.

The meeting is taking place in Vladivostok, 129 kilometers from the border Russia shares with North Korea. It is Russia’s shortest international border, only 17km along the Tyumen River. Since the demise of the Soviet Union, North Korea has figured little in Moscow’s geopolitical calculus, as Russia sided with the West in backing UN sanctions against Pyongyang.

The collapse of denuclearization talks between Kim and US President Donald Trump in Hanoi back in February, however, appears to have pushed Pyongyang and Moscow closer together. What does that mean for Washington?

In his opinion, “this is due to the fact that Russian legislation allows the use of the Armed Forces to protect Russian citizens outside Russian territory.”

Turchinov intends to respond to the actions of Russia by “strengthening the defense potential”. He also expects “an appropriate international response to the Kremlin’s criminal actions with increased sanction pressure on the aggressor country.”

The Buried Maidan Massacre And Its Misrepresentation By The West

Authored by Ivan Katchanovski via ConsortiumNews.com,

The new Ukrainian government is faced with reopening an inquiry into evidence of an organized mass killing in Kiev that Poroshenko stonewalled...

Police in Hrushevsky Street, Kiev, Feb. 12, 2014. (Wikimedia)

Five years ago, the Maidan massacre in Kiev, Ukraine, of Feb. 18-20, 2014, was a watershed event, not only for the politics and history of Ukraine but also for world politics generally. This mass killing in downtown Kyiv set the stage for the violent overthrow of the pro-Russian government in Ukraine and a new Cold War between Washington and Moscow.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When this comes out in the open, there are three things the Ukrainian government, and people, will take away; first, that then-President Barak Obama was key to the putsch moving successfully in installing Poroshenko President admitted on CNN, that the US government was behind the Kiev coup; 2nd, that Victoria Nuland bragged about having spent 5 billion on this regime change United States spent $5 billion on regime change in Ukraine; and thirdly, to never, ever trust the US government on anything it says.

The Ukrainians have learned a very painful lesson on this, and I hope that the new President, Volodymyr Zelensky, understands this reality as well. And whatever the US government wants him to do, will have a "price tag" on it.

Washington's crackdown on Iranian oil exports won’t enhance the international standing of the United States, the Russian foreign ministry said.

"The US has obviously made a mistake in choosing tools, if it has decided to make Tehran an easy negotiator ready for any deals on American terms through suppressing it economically, dealing a blow to the living conditions of ordinary Iranians," Moscow stated.

"This policy won’t add international weight to Americans — the rest of the world sees perfectly well that Washington's policy is getting increasingly aggressive and reckless">>>

North Korea's Kim Jong Un to meet Putin in Russia

North Korea's Kim Jong Un to meet Putin in Russia
Summit is the first between Putin and the North Korean leader and will focus on nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula

***
Tensions between Pyongyang and Washington have continued to simmer in the wake of the two summits, with North Korea recently calling for the replacement of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as a negotiator.

In addition to the increasing hostility towards Pompeo, North Korea last week tested a "new type of tactical guided weapon", its state news agency reported. It was the country's first known weapons test since February's failed US-North Korea summit in Hanoi.

What's at stake as Kim meets Putin in Russia?

The Orchestration of Russophobia Is the Prelude to War

The Russian Embassy in Washington has prepared an accurate 121-page report, THE RUSSIAGATE HYSTERIA: A CASE OF SEVERE RUSSOPHOBIA.https://washington.mid.ru/upload/iblock/3c3/3c3d1e3b69a4c228e99bfaeb5491ecd7.pdf

Everyone should read this report. It documents the fake news, lies, violations of diplomatic standards and international law, and gratuitous aggressive actions taken against Russia during the period beginning May 18, 2016 and continuing through the issuance of the Mueller Report.

Without explicitly saying so, the report shows that neither the US government nor the American media has a nanoparticle of integrity. Both are criminal organizations that are willing to risk war with Russia in their pursuit of narrow politicized agendas.

This is important information for Americans and the rest of the world to have. Every person, every government and every private organization that supports Washington’s Russophobic policies is contributing to the growing threat of nuclear war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Paul Craig Roberts... is one of the true "adults in the room" in Geopolitics; I sure wish he was our Secretary of State right now, rather than Pompeo.

Why are the peaceful people, who want to ratchet down the rhetoric out there, and make the world a more responsible, less hostile place for its citizens, always marginalized, or sidelined permanently?!?

Because that... makes the US a less war-centric company, and that... makes those companies heavily invested in the creation of weaponry, very unhappy.

But if I were a betting woman, I would not bet against Americans being absolutely ready for a peace candidate; if they just had a chance here, which they do not seem to have.

"Hollow And Laughable": Russia Issues Own Scathing 120-page Reaction To Mueller Report

One day following last Thursday's bombshell Mueller report — or rather we should say the report which ended three years of nonstop 'Russiagate' hysteria with a not-so-dramatic whimper — the Russian embassy in the US issued its own scathing report, calling the collusion conspiracy which Mueller's team sought to uncover "hollow and laughable".

The Russian embassy also said it was "no surprise" that the investigation delivered "no tangible result" in its own massive 120-page study, released online Friday, even the title of which pulled no punches — The Russiagate Hysteria: A Case of Severe Russiaphobia.

Oil Shortage Crisis Might Force the Syrian State to Liberate East Euphrates

Muhammad Khodhr, Lebanese Al-Mayadeen News Channel reporter in Syria wrote to almayadeen.net commenting on the pressing issue of the shortages in Syria. Mr. Khdhr’s article is in Arabic and we tried to translate it to our best to English.

The current crisis started on Saturday, April 6th, which the government attributes to the impact of US sanctions on the Syrian economy. Oil Minister Ali Ghanem said during a tour of the gas stations that the material was available at stations in an effort to reassure consumers who have just got out of a severe shortage in gas which stretched throughout the winter months and effectively ended with the start of the spring.

Russia’s Hostile Outreach of Friendship

The mainstream media never ceases to remind us that Russia is an adversary of the United States … or an opponent … an enemy … a rival … an adversary … or, my favorite, a “regional hegemon.”

Imagine: Russia trying to establish business relations with the United States. Even worse, coming up with a plan of “reconciliation” between the two countries?

Well, certainly one thing could be worse, from the standpoint of the media and the U.S. national-security establishment. That would be Russians who were trying to help Donald Trump defeat Hillary Clinton. After all, on the campaign trail Trump was also saying that he intended to establish a friendly and harmonious relation with Russia while Clinton was embracing the opposite position. In the eyes of the mainstream press and the Washington, D.C., establishment, the fact that Russia preferred the presidential candidate who favored normalizing relations shows why Russia poses such a grave threat to “national security.”

Poroshenko out, Zelensky in: West backed the wrong man in Ukraine & now it’s payback time

Volodymyr Zelensky’s victory in Sunday’s Ukrainian Presidential election marks the moment when the Western populist wave comes to the post-Soviet space.
It also serves as a complete rejection of the divisive, ethno-nationalist policies pursued by his opponent, Petro Poroshenko, over the past five years.

Like US President Donald Trump and Italy’s Beppe Grillo, Zelensky has leveraged a major television profile for political gain, but he’s pulled it off on an inclusive platform in his campaigning, contrasting with the discordant rhetoric of his opponent.

Now, Ukraine faces an unusual situation. It has replaced an ideologically fanatical President with a complete unknown quantity. One who lacks any parliamentary power-base and must wait six months for elections to the legislature, the Rada.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump is going to have to bend over backwards, because of what President Obama, Victoria Nuland, et al, did, with their "canonization" of Poroshenko.

I hope that Trump will meet with Volodymyr Zelensky, and soon, to try to ratchet down the tensions between Russia and Ukraine; that would be a wonderful thing to see happen.

Of course, after having done this once, the US MIGHT think about another "Maidan Spring" to topple Zelensky; but should that happen, by now, the people of Ukraine are going to get so furious, that any usurper will be shown the door, with the door securely bolted behind him.

And I have to wish this guy good luck; he... is going to need it.

Hezbollah: US Iran Sanctions Amount to Aggression Against Entire World

The secretary general of the Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement denounced US economic sanctions against Iran, describing the punitive measures as “an act of aggression” against all world nations.

“US efforts to increase economic pressure on Iran, especially its pledge to drive the country’s oil exports to zero, will have negative repercussions and will affect the entire world, including the US itself,” Seyed Hassan Nasrallah said as he addressed his supporters via a televised speech broadcast live from the Lebanese capital Beirut on Monday evening, presstv reported.

He then called on world nations to stand up against “US arrogance”>>>

No more waivers: The United States will try to force Iranian oil exports to zero

In tightening sanctions on Iran, the Trump administration moved on Monday to isolate Tehran economically and undercut its power across the Middle East. But the clampdown has complicated relations with China at a particularly sensitive moment.

The decision to stop five of Iran’s biggest customers from buying its oil was an audacious strike at Tehran’s lifeline — one million barrels of oil exports daily, fully half of which go to China. The order was also aimed at India, Japan, South Korea and Turkey, all countries that trade robustly with the United States.

All are also partners with the United States on major security and diplomatic issues that do not involve Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, let me get this straight; Is President Trump is attempting to use some kind of "economic force against China", so that it yields on purchasing Iran's oil?!?

Good luck with that, Mr. President!! And BTW, I was just wondering; what do you up your sleeve, in order to be able to do this?!?

And BTW, could your timing of this threat come at a worse possible time during the US/China economic negotiations?!?

I think not.

And also against the countries of India, Japan, South Korea and Turkey, which have been buying from American vendors?!?

Sir, forgive me, but this bites, BIG-TIME!!

So, sir, what are you prepared to do, particularly if China doesn't want to budge against your embargo of Iranian oil?!?

Are you seriously looking at, having US sailors "board foreign ships", to see if they are carrying any Iranian oil?!?

Sir, in case no one among your "advisors" has happened to mention it, the interdiction of a foreign ship in international waters, is very close to creating to a declaration of war against that country.

Perhaps a "false flag" to be blamed on Russia or China may be more to your liking.

But when President Bush lied about Iraq having alleged "weapons of mass destruction", (which, of course, he didn't, but that was the lie upon which which he staked the invasion and occupation of Iraq.) was the moment where I lost all faith in what any American governing bodies were saying, including the Executive; Judicial; Pentagon; and its Surveillance.

So what are we looking at here, Mr. President, a nuclear war against China, and Russia?!? Don't laugh; Paul Craig Roberts warned us a couple of years ago, that plans actually exist to make this happen.

This guy is one of the most sober-sided writer/reporter on the US political scene, and is quite credible.

Paul Craig Roberts: US plans exist to nuke Russia and China

War, even when the biggest US weaponry makers believe, and experience has proven them right, that their "donations" to various covert and overt political causes, makes them "bullet-proof" in terms of any governmental prosecution against them, for shoddy, outdated merchandise which does not behave as advertised?!?

Sir, I give you... the Lockheed-Martin F-35s, which is still a hot mess
technically:

August 2018: The Pentagon is Down-Playing Serious Problems with the F-35, watchdog says

January 2019: Stealth F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Still has some serious Problems

March 2019: F-35 FAR FROM READY TO FACE CURRENT OR FUTURE THREATS

From January, 2019:F-35 Logistics System resulting in Lost Missions

February, 2019: F-35 Fighter Jets will only be able to fly one quarter of expected life, due to Structural Issues

None of this information is confidential, having been previously published, both in print, and on-line. And please look them up for yourself; I am not telling anything that people already don't know, if they have been following the "process" of the evolution of the F-35.

Mr. President, you really need to think about this, as critically as you are able; because right now, in Spring of 2019, the US military does not have the weaponry; the troop strength; the manufacturing, or the money to make such a war conclude with a good outcome for this country.

So, as someone who cares about this country deeply, I am asking you: please, President Trump, don't look at a war against both China and Russia; the US may not fare too well, if this is, in fact, the plan.

And here is another little "caveat" to the above:

China Won't Find Lost F-35 stealth Fighter,

The article, Mr. President, continues to state: "The U.S. and Japanese militaries are dismissing the possibility that China will find Japan’s missing F-35A Lightning II aircraft before their own search parties.

“The Japanese have the lead there, and we’re working very collaboratively with them," acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said Friday. "And we’ve got a capability if what they have doesn’t prove to be sufficient.”

When asked whether he was concerned China could get to the crash site first, Shanahan said: “No, I’m not.”

Somehow, I have a really hard time believing that last bit.
