Mattis: US will send more ‘diplomats’, contractors to Syria

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says he is expecting to see a larger US civilian presence in Syria, where there are already 2,000 American troops without the authorization of the Syrian government.

Mattis said Friday that the US would deploy more contractors and diplomats to the war-torn country, with which Washington has suspended diplomatic relations.

“What we will be doing is shifting from what I would call an offensive, shifting from an offensive terrain-seizing approach to a stabilizing… you’ll see more US diplomats on the ground,” Mattis told reporters at the Pentagon.

Russia puts Erdogan back in his place after he ludicrously called Assad a terrorist

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that there is no legal basis to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan comments that Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad is a terrorist.

"As for the fact that the Turkish president called Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad a terrorist, Syrian government representatives are at the UN and represent the Syrian government at the UN Security Council, so this [statement] has no legal basis whatsoever, even without additional assessments and arguments," Zakharova said.

"I will not talk about the moral aspect. From the legal point of view, such statements are unsubstantiated," the diplomat added.

EXCLUSIVE: One Man's Quest to Expose 'Absolutely Historic' BBC Panorama 'Fakery'

This scene and other questionable aspects of the brief report prompted him to pen a letter to the BBC — as he was writing it, the BBC broadcast a Panorama documentary, Saving Syria's Children, which expanded on the original report, and included further footage.

The documentary was said to have been intended to cover the work of two British doctors in Syria — but apparently completely by chance, while they were filming, the chemical attack occurred.

Ever since, Robert has repeatedly reviewed the program. As of December 2017, he's identified contradictions, anomalies and areas of concern "almost too numerous to list." At best, he believes the broadcast contains many scenes which are "largely, if not entirely, staged" — at worst, he suggests its content, and even the attack it allegedly covers, may be "fictionalized."

The Trump Peace Plan: 'The War Is Not Over' in Iraq and Syria

Declarations of victory over ISIS by both Iraq and Syria, along with Russia, are not having an impact on US military policy in the region, according to Defense Secretary James Mattis, who insisted on Friday that “the war is not over.”

Which isn’t to say that the US is determined to keep fighting a war against ISIS, as such, but rather that there’s definitely going to be a war against somebody in those countries. Mattis in particular has been keen to talk up the idea of an “ISIS 2.0” emerging in areas ISIS has been expelled from.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 29, 2017: MILITANT DEFENSE COLLAPSES NEAR ABU DALI

On December 28, government forces liberated the villages of Ad Dajaj, Tamat al-Khalifah and Mushayrifah and reached the southern vicinity of the militant-held village of Abu Dali.

Abu Dali is controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and is one of the key militant defense points in the area. If Abu Dali falls into the hands of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA), the militant defense may collapse in the entire area east of the town of Morek.

Clashes in the area continued on December 29.

On December 28, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that their fighters had advanced on the ISIS-held town of Hajin in the province of Deir Ezzor. According to the SDF, 15 ISIS members were killed and a vehicle and motorcycle of the terrorist group were destroyed.

Syria hits back brutally against Erdogan's claims that Assad is a terrorist

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reaffirmed his stance against Bashar al-Assad as Syrian President during a state visit at the Carthage presidential palace in Tunis on Wednesday, describing the Syrian President as a "terrorist," as reported by FRN earlier today.

"I clearly want to say Assad is a terrorist who leads state terror. There is no peace in Syria now and won't be with Assad. Otherwise we would have an unfairness on the people who are killed. We can not recognize this situation as Turkey," he said.

However the Syrian Foreign Ministry did not take the ridiculous claim lightly and hit back at the Muslim Brotherhood sympathetic Turkish president.

Arabic-language al-Hadath news website quoted Alexander Ivanov, the spokesman of Russia's airbase at Humeimim, as saying that al-Nusra has used a US-made missile to bring down the Syrian fighter jet on Tuesday.

The al-Nusra's possession of US-made weapons indicates that Washington is supplying the terrorist group with different aid with the aim of preventing reestablishment of stability in Syria, he added.

Top Russian General Accuses US Of Training ISIS At Syrian Border Base

According to a new Reuters report, the chief of the Russian General Staff has accused the United States of hosting a training facility for ISIS fighters in Syria along the Syria-Iraq border. Al-Tanf base on Syria's southeast side has been under the control of the US-backed "New Syrian Army" and their US special forces advisers since the area was captured from ISIS in August of 2016.

Russia has previously called the base a 100km wide “black hole” operated by the US wherein an assortment of unaccountable armed groups and militants can operate freely. That American troops have long been deployed there was previously confirmed through multiple photographs and videos released early in the summer of 2017 which showed US elite soldiers on active patrols with Syrian rebel factions associated with the Free Syrian Army (or FSA, elements of which were more recently renamed the New Syrian Army).

The US forces have effectively turned their military base near the town of al-Tanf in southeastern Syria into a terrorists’ training camp, Gerasimov said in an interview to Russia’s Komsomolskaya Pravda daily on Wednesday.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 27, 2017: HAYAT TAHRIR AL-SHAM WILL BE ELIMINATED IN 2018?

On December 26, the Tiger Forces and their allies liberated Aswad Hill, Mazraat Qahirah, Ras al-Ain, Qubaybat Abu al-Huda and the Abandoned Air Defense Base in southern Idlib from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda).

Some pro-government sources speculate that this advance is a part of a large-scale operation to re-capture the entire area west of Khanasir from the militants. On December 27, fighting continued in the area with government troops attempting to further develop momentum.

On December 26, militants shot down a L-39 warplane of the Syrian Air Force with a man-portable air-defense system. The warplane crashed between the villages of Hamdaniyah and Haraytan. According to reports, the pilot was captured and executed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Putin to NWO agents in Syria: You ain’t seen nothing yet

Vladimir Putin has stunned New World Order agents and terrorist apologists when he said that his work in Syria is not done yet. He gives the impression that he is not going to leave Assad in the lion’s den without backup. Putin still has his back against the wall and is fighting New World Order agents.

By defending Syria, Putin seems to be saying, he is indirectly fighting against diabolical forces which seek to bring down anything reasonable and orderly. If he doesn’t exterminate Israel/US terrorists in Syria, then the diabolical fire will spread, and soon or later Russia might be a victim. Putin has seen what happened In Iraq, Afghanistan, and even Libya.

Putin has seen how terrorist activities continue to rule those countries, despite the fact that the United States and Israel promised “democracy” and “freedom” in those countries. No one, with an ounce of common sense, can say that regime change has brought peace in those countries. In fact, the Pentagon has recently admitted that 9.7 million dollars have been lost in Afghanistan.[1]

Russian parliament ratifies naval base agreement with Syria

The Russian parliament voted on Thursday to extend Russia's lease of a naval base in Syria for 49 years, following Vladimir Putin's announcement of a partial pullout of Russian troops from the war-torn country.

Russia's air campaign in Syria, which began in September 2015, helped turn the tide of the civil war in favor of Moscow's long-time ally Bashar Assad. Putin earlier this month ordered a partial withdrawal from Syria but said Russia would keep its military presence there.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 22, 2017: TENSIONS BETWEEN SYRIAN ARMY AND SDF GROW IN DEIR EZZOR PROVINCE

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has shelled several positions of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the town of al-Busayrah on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in southern Deir Ezzor, the Kurdish Hawar News Agency (ANHA) reported on December 21. Other pro-Kurdish sources claimed that the SAA is coordinating its alleged attacks on the SDF with ISIS.

In turn, pro-government sources accused the SDF of attacking the SAA in the village of Khasham on December 20 and 21. The SDF’s Deir Ezzor Military Council allegedly lost 20 members in these attacks.

While local sources cannot confirm any notable skirmishes between the sides, the recent competing accusations are an indication of the deterioration of relations between the Damascus government and the SDF. This became especially noticeable after Washington had assured the SDF leadership that US forces will not withdraw from Syria despite the collapse of ISIS’ self-proclaimed Caliphate.

Paul Craig Robberts: Trump Claims Credit For The Russian/Syrian Defeat Of ISIS

What do we make of Trump’s national security speech? First of all, it is the military/security complex’s speech, and it is inconsistent with Trump’s intention of normalizing relations with Russia.

The military/security complex, using Trump’s position as President, has defined Russia and China as “revisionist powers,” Washington’s rivals who seek to put their own national interests ahead of Washington’s unilateralism. Russia and China are “revisionist powers” because their assertion of their national interests limits Washington’s hegemony.

In other words, Washington does not accept the validity of other countries’ interests if those interests are contrary to Washington’s interests.>>>

What do we make of Trump’s national security speech? First of all, it is the military/security complex’s speech, and it is inconsistent with Trump’s intention of normalizing relations with Russia.

My conclusion is that Trump has surrendered to the real rulers of America—the powerful interest groups such as the military/security complex, the Israel Lobby, the environmental polluters, Wall Street and the banks “too big to fail.”

America is a country in which despite the hopes flyover America had in Trump, an oligarchy rules. The American people, regardless of who they elect, have no voice, no input, no representation.

SYRIAN-IRAQI WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 20, 2017: IRAN DEPLOYS REINFORCEMENST ON SYRIAN-IRAQI BORDER

Syrian government forces have continued to develop momentum in southern Idlib and liberated Tal Afghar from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda).

Previously, government troops established control over Ruwaydah, Tall Khinzir, Zafaria, Shutaib and other points in the area.
According to local sources, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is now regrouping its forces and preparing to attack government forces in southern Idlib and southern Aleppo.

Iranian-backed forces are deploying reinforcements to the cities of al-Qaim and al-Bukamal in the Syrian-Iraqi border area, according to pro-government sources.

Experts link the growing activity of the Iranian-backed forces with the recently opened land route that links Teheran, Baghdad, Damascus and Beirut. The Al-Bukamal-Deir Ezzor part of the road is its most vulnerable segment because it borders with the ISIS-held part of the Homs-Deir Ezzor desert.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 19, 2017: SYRIAN ARMY ADVANCES IN SOUTHERN IDLIB

On December 18, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) liberated the village of Ruwaydah in southern Idlib from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda).

According to pro-opposition sources, the SAA and the NDF were able to take control of the village thanks only to massive air and artillery strikes in the area. The advance followed a series of gains made by government forces in southern Idlib, northern Hama and southern Aleppo.

In southern Syria, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) have reportedly started withdrawing from the village of Maghr Al-Meer next to the town of Beit Jinn. If this is confirmed, the SAA will likely establish control of Maghr Al-Meer in the next few days. This will be a major blow to the HTS defense in the Beit Jinn pocket.

CONSPIRACY THEORISTS WERE RIGHT: CORPORATE MEDIA FINALLY FORCED TO ADMIT AMERICA ARMED ISIS

While the mainstream media opted to protect the United States government by treating anyone who dared to question the government’s role in the rise of ISIS as crazy conspiracy theorists, a new report is forcing the MSM to admit that those “conspiracies” were true all along.

Now, mainstream media outlets such as Reuters and USA Today are suddenly reporting that the United States and its close ally, Saudi Arabia, were instrumental in supplying weapons and ammunition to ISIS. Both reports cite an investigation conducted by Conflict Armament Research (CAR), which looked at 40,000 items recovered from Islamic State militants between July 2014 and November 2017.

A final report from CAR titled “Weapons of the Islamic State,” concluded that the vast majority of the weapons used by ISIS were supplied in the thousands, given their origin and the fact that they were found “in numbers far beyond those that would have been available to the group through battlefield capture alone.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Following on the heels of the pseudo-journalistic whitewash by the BBC regarding the UK government’s funding of terrorism in Syria, USA Today has released a similar piece revealing how the United States has armed ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Of course, USA Today claims that the arms which made their way from the United States and Saudi Arabia to the hands of ISIS were all unintentional, thus completing another whitewash of what has already been exposed numerous times in the alternative media.

The report by USA Today is entitled “The U.S. Bought Weapons For Syrian Rebels – And Some Wound Up In The Hands Of ISIS Terrorists”...

WEAPONS WENT FROM THE CIA TO ISIS IN LESS THAN TWO MONTHS, NEW STUDY REVEALS

Mainstream media in 2013: "Conspiracy Theorists!"
Mainstream media in 2017: "ISIS Got a Powerful Missile the CIA Bought!"
Years late to the party, mainstream media outlets like USA Today, Reuters, and Buzzfeed are just out with "breaking" and "exclusive" stories detailing how a vast arsenal of weapons sent to Syria by the CIA in cooperation with US allies fuelled the rapid growth of ISIS. Buzzfeed's story entitled, Blowback: ISIS Got A Powerful Missile The CIA Secretly Bought In Bulgaria [4], begins by referencing "a new report on how ISIS built its arsenal highlights how the US purchased munitions, intended for Syrian rebels, that ended up in the hands of the terrorist group."

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have to wonder just how much that definition "indirectly allowed" is real, or just for American consumption, to allow Americans to still entertain the complete and utter fantasy that this supply was not deliberate on the part of the American government.

Washington might use defeated Daesh terrorists in fight against Assad: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin says the United States is turning a blind eye to information provided by Moscow about Syrian terrorists traveling to neighboring Iraq in the hope that these militants could be later used to fight against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Putin made the remarks at the traditional end-of-year press conference in the Russian capital of Moscow on Thursday, saying that the Kremlin has received no “reaction” from Washington regarding the given intelligence.

SYRIAN-IRAQI WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 15, 2017: SYRIAN ARMY TIGHTENS SIEGE ON BEIT JINN POCKET

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies have deployed a notable force for an operation against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) in the province of Idlib.

According to pro-government sources, the operation will involve the SAA, the Tiger Forces, the National Defense Forces (NDF), the 4th Armoured Division, the 8th Armored Division and the 11th Armored Division. In the first stage, the military will allegedly launch two simultaneously advances in northeastern Hama and southern Aleppo in order to retake from militants the area west of Khanasser.

In the Beit Jinn pocket in southern Syria, the SAA and the NDF recaptured Tal Al-Bayda from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

‘Netanyahu is calling shots as US beats drums of war vs Iran' – CIA veteran

The US envoy to the UN, Nikki Haley, was dancing to Israel’s tune by calling for a Western coalition against Iran while posing in front of the wreckage of a missile, former CIA officer Ray McGovern told RT, saying the spectacle was aimed at distracting attention from Yemen.

“I think that Netanyahu is calling the shots. Look, Jerusalem has just been recognized as the capital of Israel, Nikki Haley is getting on this bandwagon. She sees this as being very propitious for her, politically,” McGovern said.

The supposed proof provided by Haley of Iran’s alleged violation of the UN resolutions pales when compared to the scope of violations committed by US-backed Saudi Arabia, Iran’s archrival, McGovern said.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 14, 2017: SYRIAN ARMY PREPARES FOR IDLIB OPERATION

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces have established control over the hilltops of al-Ahmar, al-Madjahan and al-Khazzan inside the Beit Jinn pocket in southern Syria. Thus, the SAA and the NDF are about to divide the Beit Jinn pocket into two separate parts. If this is done, the liberation of Mughr al-Meer by government troops will be just a matter of time.

The SAA and the NDF resumed their military operation in the southwestern Aleppo countryside and liberated Syriatel Hill and the village of Rsm al-Kabarah from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda). Government troops also advanced on Rsm Sayala and Ramlah.

According to reports, positions of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Tell al-Daman and Umm al-Amad were hit by Russian airstrikes. The HTS-linked agency Iba’a claims that 5 SAA troops were killed during the clashes in Syriatel Hill.

UK Gov't Exposed For Funding Terrorist "Councils," "Police," And "White Helmets"

By Brandon Turbeville

The BBC has recently surprised everyone with a rare act of journalism, exposing the UK government for funding terrorists in Syria through a foreign aid programme that has dished out millions of pounds of taxpayer money over the years. The money has been awarded to groups like Adam Smith International which is then funneled to the extremists. At the focus of the BBC article is the fact that taxpayer money has been provided to the Free Syrian Police, a police force operated by “rebel” councils...

The pundits were wrong about Assad and the Islamic State. As usual, they're not willing to admit it

The Islamic State is a shadow of its former self. In 2014, the extremist group seemed to make substantial inroads in achieving its stated goal of a caliphate. It boasted tens of thousands of fighters and territorial control over an area roughly the size of South Korea. By almost every metric, Islamic State has collapsed in its Syria stronghold, as well as in Iraq. As a former foreign fighter recently admitted, “It’s over: there is no more Daesh left,” using an Arabic acronym for Islamic State.

The rollback of Islamic State must come as a shock to the chorus of journalists and analysts who spent years insisting that such progress would never happen without toppling the regime of Bashar Assad — which is, of course, still standing. A cavalcade of opinion makers long averred that Islamic State would thrive in Syria so long as Assad ruled because the Syrian Arab Army was part of the same disease.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 12, 2017: GOVT FORCES LIBERATED 67,000KM2 OVER 7 MONTHS

Over 1,000 localities, 78 oil and gas fields and two deposits of phosphate ores have been liberated in Syria over the past 227 days, commander of Russia’s military group in Syria Colonel-General Sergey Surovikin has told Russian President Vladimir Putin during this visit to the Khmeimim airbase on December 12. In total, the area of 67,000 square kilometers has been liberated.

Col. Gen. Surovikin added that Russian warplanes have flown 6,956 sorties and helicopters have conducted more than 7,000 sorties killing over 32,000 militants and destroying 394 battle tanks and 12,000 pieces of other equipment.

The general revealed that Russia is set to withdraw 23 warplanes of different types and 2 Ka-52 attack helicopters, the military police force, the commando unit, the field hospital and the mine-clearing center. The remaining forces will continue conducting tasks in the country.

Putin Announces Partial Withdrawal Of Forces In Syria, US Intends To Stay

By Brandon Turbeville

After making a surprise visit to Syria on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a partial withdrawal of Russian troops from the country, adding that their task has largely been completed.

Putin was welcomed by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad at the Russian Hmeimim airbase, both men smiling and embracing at the meeting.

“I have taken a decision: a significant part of the Russian troop contingent located in Syria is returning home to Russia,” Putin stated. Putin addressed Russian troops in a televised speech where he stated that he had ordered Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to begin the partial withdrawal. Putin told the troops that they had helped the Syrian military crush the “most battle-ready group of international terrorists.”...

US claims full credit for any ‘meaningful’ anti-ISIS fight, denies hampering Russia’s Syria op

The Pentagon has claimed all the credit for wiping out the vast majority of terrorists in Syria. It also challenged the Russian defense ministry’s assertion that US fighter jets were actively interfering with Moscow's anti-terrorist operations in Syrian airspace.

On Wednesday, the Chief of the Russian General Staff declared “there’s no territory controlled by ISIS,” but only “some spots of resistance” left in Syria. A spokesman for the US-led Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) was quick to dismiss the Russian statement Saturday, claiming that IS (Islamic State, formerly ISIS/ISIL) terrorists continue to operate in Deir ez-Zor province.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – DECEMBER 11, 2017: PUTIN ORDERS WITHDRAWAL OF RUSSIAN FORCES FROM SYRIA

On December 10, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Hezbollah launched a military operation in order to clear the desert area in eastern Syria from ISIS. According to pro-government sources, the SAA and Hezbollah liberated about 2,000 km in the area between the T2 pumping station and the city of al-Mayadin during the first day of the operation.

The US-led coalition believes that about 3,000 ISIS members remains in Iraq. If this is true, a notable part of them should hide in the Syrian desert. The liberation of this area will be an important part of the preparations for future anti-terrorist operations of the Iranian-Russian-Syrian alliance in Syria.
