New CIA Docs Offer Torture Details, Show Internal Debate

Despite intense efforts to keep most of the details of their use of torture secret over recent years, the CIA’s most recent release of documents included several which shed new light on the practice of torture, as well as underscoring an intense internal debate within the agency about the policy.

Among these were cables about the torture of Abu Zubaydah, revealing he was waterboarded 83 different times in a single month, and kept in a small box to small for him to sit up in for hours on end to induce pain. It also revealed there was a formal policy of smacking him repeatedly head-first into walls, with torturers admonished to put a rolled up towel behind his neck to prevent permanent neck injuries.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please remember; this is what your government did in your name, and with your tax dollars; don't you feel proud?!?

And particularly in light of the following:

US report on 'enhanced interrogation' concludes: torture doesn't work

Apparently, no one in Bush's administration even wanted to consider the
incredible successes of World War II's German interrogator, Hans Scharff, who only used kindness and communication as his tools for extracting information.

The Friendliest Interrogator Of World War II Was A German

In fact, this man's humaneness was so revered by the American government, that at the end of the war, he was invited to teach his techniques to the American military.

What he did worked, and worked without harming anyone; what the US government did, or had done, didn't work, and was thoroughly morally repugnant to anyone with a sense of conscience.

People who torture, and love it, are mentally ill vermin who "get off" on the process, because they know that there wil be no repercussions for their actions.

But for that unholy trinity of Bush, Rumsfeld, and Cheney to have signed off on the use of torture, at the highest level of this government...does make me wonder about the state of their minds, and souls (if they have any).

And please consider this; when the US government tortures, or outsources torture, that demonstrates to the rest of the world that it does not honor human rights in the least, nor follows the dictates of Constitution; the Bill of Rights; or the Geneva Conventions.

And also, when the US government tortures, it gives other countries around the world which don't particularly care for the US government carte blanche to torture American civilians and our military.

Please chew on that for awhile, if you have family or friends in our military.

Abu Ghraib torture – How many tortured Iraqis would you think have since then joined IS?

“The U.S. Department of Defense must release a cache of photos showing how Army personnel treated detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison and other sites in Iraq and Afghanistan, a federal judge ruled on Wednesday….

The number of photos sought in the lawsuit has not been disclosed but has been estimated at roughly 2,000, according to the Congressional Record and court papers…..

After Hellerstein in March 2015 ordered the release of additional photos, [Defense Secretary] Carter allowed the release of 198 but kept the remainder under wraps, citing a review of a "representative sample" by four high-ranking generals……

The judge said that while risks remained, including that portions of Iraq had been "overrun" by the Islamic State, he could not blindly accept withholding the remaining photos.”

Trump's Son-In-Law Jared Kushner Invites Bush-Cheney Insider To Serve As Key Advisor In Trump White House

Neil Patel served as Dick Cheney's right hand man and even represented Cheney at meetings during Bush's reign. Patel is set to help Kushner, who has become a key Trump advisor, on the Middle east conflict. Here is a photo of Patel with Cheney from The U.S. National Archives, and also a photo of Patel with Karl Rove going way back to 2003. Trump often describes Kushner as 'very smart,' but the director of Harvard's college preparatory program at the time described Kushner's admission as "an unusual choice for Harvard to make" given that he was "not anywhere near the top of his class." Kushner's felon daddy donated $2.5 million dollars to Harvard prior to Kushner's admission. Last summer at a Town Hall Q&A, a very polite elderly gentleman told Donald trump that "I'm opposed to wasting our military in the Middle East on behalf of Zionist Israel.

Chelsea Manning's Attorneys: Obama's Commutation Will Help Save Life Of Jailed Army Whistleblower

In one of his final acts in office, President Obama shortened the sentences of 209 prisoners and pardoned 64 individuals on Tuesday. The list included Army whistleblower Chelsea Manning, who is now set to be freed on May 17, after Obama reduced her sentence from 35 years to seven. According to her attorneys, she is already the longest-held whistleblower in U.S. history.

The Ugly Specter Of Torture And Lies

January 17 was an unusually good day for truth and human rights on both sides of the Atlantic. Even before President Obama commuted whistleblower Chelsea Manning’s long prison sentence, the British Supreme Court ruled unanimously that government ministers cannot claim “state immunity” or other specious grounds to avoid legal accountability in cases of abduction (rendition) and torture.

Reality check: Is #Pizzagate #Fakenews or Has It Just Not Been Officially Investigated?

There is no proof here that there is a child sex-ring operating out of a DC pizza parlor. Investigators have already proven that there is nothing to the story, right? Well, actually, no; and that's what you need to know.

For all that is here, there has not been single public investigation of any of this... not from the local police, not from the FBI. No one. And that has to be the big question: Not for the Podestas or pizza parlor owners, but for law enforcement. Why hasn't any investigation taken place?

Chelsea will be free in May!

With more than a little irony, while I was in Iraq working for the State Department, Chelsea Manning’s office was across the hall from mine. While I was winning the war by writing emails to the embassy, Manning was across the hall capturing the texts of hundreds of thousands of State Department cables, famously released by Wikileaks, showing that was could never be won.

Rex Tillerson Wants to Provide Saudi Arabia With More Help to Bomb Yemen

FOR 21 MONTHS, a coalition of nations led by Saudi Arabia has been relentlessly bombing Yemen, using U.S.- and U.K.-produced weapons and intelligence in a war that has devastated Yemen and killed well over 10,000 civilians.

There is abundant evidence that the high civilian death toll in Yemen is the result of deliberate — not accidental — strikes by Saudi Arabia. During its air campaign, Saudi Arabia has bombed endless civilian targets — including homes, farms, markets, factories, water infrastructure, hospitals, and children’s schools — and has even gone so far as to use internationally banned cluster weapons, which are designed to inflict damage over a wide area and often remain lethal years after being dropped.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Rex, Rex, Rex, REX REX!!!!!!

I am having an industrial strength, palm to forehead moment, reading this, at warp speed!

Are you happy that the US has been complicit in Saudi war crimes by selling them the bullets and bombs to make their destruction of Yemen as complete as possible, including the bombing to death and starving to death Yemen's children?!?!?

Please, for God's sake, tell me no!!

And whoever on the TTT (Trump Transition Team) who is following this blog, please share the following images with Mr. Tillerson, so he "gets it", as to what the real issue here is, which can ultimately only be resolved through political negotiation by all sides.

This is what life looks like to a Yemeni kid these days:

Images: starving Yemeni children, as a result of the Saudi naval blockade of Yemen

Images: Killed and wounded children, courtesy of Saudi bombing raids in Yemen

I would like to politely point out that the Saudi "Scorched earth" policy in Yemen has not been working.

And one of the most classic definitions of insanity is to do the same thing, in precisely the same way, yet expecting a different outcome; so it is with the US government's enabling the Saudi war against Yemen.

Dahr Jamail | James Mattis Is a War Criminal: I Experienced His Attack on Fallujah Firsthand

In November 2005 US marines in Iraq committed a massacre of 24 unarmed Iraqi civilians. The slaughtering of unarmed men, women, children and elderly people, shot multiple times at close range, was retribution for a roadside bomb attack on a convoy of marines. The war crimes were extremely well documented and the atrocity garnered international attention.

Mattis went on to dismiss all of the charges leveled against the marines who had been accused of killing the civilians and of the eight originally charged, only one still faces possible prosecution, but one can guess how that will end up.
Mattis was the head of Camp Pendleton's 1st Marine Division in Iraq and played a lead role during both of the US sieges of Fallujah in 2004.
While reporting from inside Fallujah during that siege, I personally witnessed women, children, elderly people and ambulances being targeted by US snipers under Mattis' command. Needless to say, all of these are war crimes.

Israeli witness in Gaza: No water, no electricity and children dying unnecessarily

Is that part of the procedure, this questioning?

“Yes. A request is submitted to the Israeli side and a summons is received to appear at a specific time for questioning.”

How does Hamas allow this?

“Hamas warns people not to provide any information. There are even signs on the Palestinian side of border crossings warning people going for questioning not to divulge anything, telling them to remember that the homeland is more precious than anything else.”

Doesn’t it make patients give up?

“Many people do. They are simply afraid. Even those who aren’t afraid aren’t guaranteed that they’ll get a permit. It can take months. Sometimes there is no reply at all. Many people die while waiting. There is also the issue of blackmail.”

Meaning what?

“Their travel permit is granted only on condition that they collaborate – information in exchange for an entry permit.”

You’re saying that the Shin Bet blackmails these patients? Can you prove that?

Webmaster's Commentary:

These activities against sick Palestinians constitutes slow motion genocide, courtesy of the Israeli government; and collective punishment, i.e., not allowing people medical treatment they desperately need, constitutes a war crime.

How the US Deliberately Destroyed Iraq’s Water Supply, And Now Syria…

This incisive and carefully documented article by Prof. Thomas Nagy was first published by Global Research in September 2001.

It confirms the criminal nature of US intervention.

A similar and comparable operation in Syria has now been launched by using US supported Al Qaeda “opposition rebels”, with the help of the White Helmets to undermine and destroy the system of water supply in Damascus; this issue has been casually ignored by the Western media and the self proclaimed “international community”.

While, the modus operandi in the case of Syria differs from that described by Prof. Nagy, it nonetheless confirms a pattern. In Syria, this diabolical operation carried out by US backed terrorists, constitutes the ultimate crime against humanity.

Tensions Rising Between Trump Team, Mattis Over Appointments

According to Adolfo Scilingo, an Argentine naval officer during the dictatorship, the navy conducted death flights every Wednesday between 1977 and 1978, killing up to 2,000 people.

Did Satellites Expose A Secret American Drone Hangar In A Saudi Desert?

Buried deep in the heart of one of the most barren deserts in Saudi Arabia, and the entire planet for that matter, a commercial satellite happened upon what appears to be a very modern airport that suddenly appeared out of thin air from one year to the next. What makes the airport even more mysterious is the fact that there are no planes on site and no government claims ownership of the facility. So, is this airport a mere "Border Guard" facility, as Google Maps would suggest, or did this satellite just happen to reveal the location of a secret U.S. military airport used to conduct drone operations in Yemen?

“TRANSPARENT” OBAMA ADMIN JUST ORDERED BUSH’S WAR CRIMES TO REMAIN SECRET FOR 12 MORE YEARS

Those who wished to read the full text of the notorious Senate report on documenting the CIA torture of detainees after 9/11 will have to wait for 12 years. The White House ordered it kept under seal after Barack Obama leaves office.
Seven US senators urged the Obama administration to declassify the 6,770-page Senate Select Committee on Intelligence report on the CIA’s detention and interrogation program so the public could have a full account of past torture practices.

White House counsel Neil Eggleston, in responding to the request, said the president had told the National Archives and Records Administration that access to the classified material should be shielded from public access requests for 12 years.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No, Mr. President: this report on CIA torture should be released immediately.

The American people deserve to know what was done, in their names, and with their tax dollars, to torture prisoners of war into confessions. Consider the case of one Benyam Mohammed, as reported in the working papers, 2006, of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Council, and I warn you: the language is very graphic, but I think Americans should definitively know what went on in the torture sessions the US military did directly, or outsourced, as was the case here.

206. At its worst, the torture involved stripping Binyam naked and using a doctor's scalpel to make incisions all over his chest and other parts of his body: "One of them took my penis in his hand and began to make cuts. He did it once and they stood for a minute, watching my reaction. I was in agony, crying, trying desperately to suppress myself, but I was screaming. They must have done this 20 to 30 times, in maybe two hours. There was blood all over. They cut all over my private parts. One of them said it would be better just to cut it off, as I would only breed terrorists."

207. Eventually Binyam began to co-operate in his interrogation sessions in an effort to prevent being tortured: "They said if you say this story as we read it, you will just go to court as a witness and all this torture will stop. I could not take any more... and I eventually repeated what they read out to me. They told me to say I was with bin Laden five or six times. Of course that was false. They continued with two or three interrogations a month. They weren't really interrogations —more like trainings, training me what to say."

The bottom line here is, torture will get the tortured person to say anything their torturers want them to say in order to get the torture to stop; they were getting precisely the false confessions his torturers wanted from this guy, which he gave in order to get the torture to stop.

It does not produce actionable intelligence.

One of the finest interrogators of all times, Germany's Hanns-Joachim Scharff, during World War 11, never used any torture; only kindness, but wound up with great intel from the process. In fact, after the war, because he was so respected by the American military, he was invited to give courses in his methods of interrogation here in the states.

Hanns Scharff

And I will tell you what else happens, when the US government either tortures, or outsources torture.

1. It demonstrates to the world that the United States does not believe in the
rule of law at all, so its treatment of prisoners of war absolutely does not
follow the Geneva Conventions, which provide for the humane treatment of
these prisoners.

2. It gives carte blanche to leadership of other countries to torture American
civilians and military personnel.

3. It demonstrates, both at home and abroad, that US leadership has utterly
no moral compass whatsoever.

US Cancels Arms Sales To Saudi Arabia, But There’s A $115 Billion Problem

In a surprise move, the United States has announced that they will halt sales certain munitions sales to Saudi Arabia yesterday, citing growing concerns about “flaws” in Saudi targeting in the Yemen war, which is leading to a huge number of civilian deaths. Officials quoted in Reuters described a “systemic, endemic” problem with Saudi targeting in the war, and decided that they could no longer sell certain “air-dropped” weaponry to the Saudis. The shift is surprising, as US officials have repeatedly claimed support for the Saudi war, but it isn’t necessarily a huge shift.

Equally disturbing was the U.S. refusal to sign the Convention on Rights of the Child, introduced into the United Nations General assembly on November 20, 1989 and subsequently ratified by 191 countries.

“We betrayed the legacy of the Holocaust when we’re committing acts like this,” Professor Yair Auron said. “To sell weapons to Serbia or to Rwanda during the genocide is similar to selling weapons to Nazi Germany during the Second World War. No country has the right to do it and especially not Israel.”

Kissinger and Brzezinski to Be Honoured by Nobel Institute and Oslo University

These two top officials behind major US wars (Iran/Afghanistan and Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos) and regime change (against Allende, Chile) will speak at the first of a new event, The Nobel Peace Prize Forum Oslo, created by the Nobel Institute in Oslo.

The leaders of the two institutions declare that they are proud to have succeeded in getting these two diplomats to Norway – and the media of course will be there. The event is sponsored by the California-based company InCircl – a marketing and mobile payment company.

This is the country that, since 1980, has intervened violently in Iran, Libya, Lebanon, Kuwait, Iraq, Somalia, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Sudan, Kosova/Serbia, Yemen, Pakistan, Syria, i.e. 14 Muslim countries. It has some 630 base facilities in 130+ countries. It has its US Special Forces (SOF) in 133 countries.

It has used nuclear weapons without apology and owns the second largest arsenal of nuclear weapons.

Crimes against Humanity: Ninety Percent of Gaza Has No Clean Drinking Water

Ninety percent of Gaza has no safe drinking water and by 2020, none of the water in the blockaded enclave will be usable if nothing is done, the World Bank said this week.

This was not always the case. As recently as the late 1990s, tap water in Gaza was safe to drink, World Bank Senior Water and Sanitation Specialist Adnan Ghosheh said in his statement on the World Bank website this week. But since then, so much water has been pumped from the natural aquifer underneath Gaza that seawater has seeped in, spoiling the water and making it too salty for drinking.

Gaza’s nearly 2 million residents, therefore, rely on about 150 water truck operators selling desalinated filtered drinking water. However, “It’s more expensive and not an improved source of water, according to our definitions of water clean enough to drink,” Ghosheh said.

Amnesty: UK 'utterly disingenuous' about human rights in Bahrain

British ministers have acted like overexcited cheerleaders for Bahrain’s woefully inadequate human rights reforms, Amnesty International has said, ahead of an expected visit next month by Theresa May on the sidelines of the annual Gulf Cooperation Council summit.

Ministers ought to be confronting the awkward reality that the institutions set up in Bahrain with UK support “are seriously flawed and widely seen as a PR exercises”, Amnesty said.

The bodies, the ombudsman of the ministry of interior and the special investigations unit within the public prosecution, were established in 2012 following a fierce crackdown by the Bahraini government on protests the previous year.

The then foreign secretary Philip Hammond said Bahrain had been making significant reform, telling the House of Commons it was “a country which is travelling in the right direction”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hey, the British government has been historically willing to "look the other way" on torture, when there's money to be made, right, House of Commons and House of Lords?!?

As reported at rt.com in September of 2015, regarding the British Arms Fair:

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Israel, Bahrain and the UAE will be among the countries participating in London's 2015 Defence Security and Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition next week. RT takes a look at this year’s potential biggest buyers, whose record has often stirred controversy. Customers at this year’s arms fair may not always see eye-to-eye on geopolitics, but one thing they do hold in common is a desire to keep their armories well stocked. Countries such as Bahrain and Israel need guns to put down the meddlesome elements within their borders, while nations like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates need arms to fight Houthi rebels in Yemen. Over the course of next week, military buyers from around the world will rub shoulders at the world’s biggest arms fair in London’s EXCEL exhibition center to shop around for the deadliest deals. This year’s DSEI will welcome some of the world’s most repressive regimes. Among the guests are Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Israel and the United Arab Emirates, all of which have been condemned for human rights abuses and violating international law.

And if the British and American governments were happy with what your weapons makers sold to these regimes, let me acquaint you with precisely what Saudi Arabia has been doing with these weapons against the people of Yemen: I am sure you are going to be just as happy with the following images:

Images of children killed by Saudi bombings in Yemen

Oh, and of course, there's that Saudi Naval blockade of Yemen, causing the slow, painful deaths of Yemeni children: if you liked the preceding image, you're gonna LOVE this one:

Images of dead and starving Yemeni children, 2016

Oh, and here's an image relating to current "human rights" in Bahrain:

Torture the norm in Bahrain to elicit confessions

So, to the UK and US government: these arms sales to despotic countries which attack schools, hospitals, open air markets, and kill kids, and torture political prisoners has made both governments complicit in war crimes.

I used to be very proud to be an American; but these days, being a citizen of a country addicted to pre-emptive wars; which tortures prisoners of war to obtain false confessions; which abets and enables countries which maim, murder, and torture civilians...this is not who I am, and not what I signed up for, as a citizen of the United States of America.

I think many of our readers will resonate with this thought.

What I have reported, in terms of the British government's glossing over Bahrain's atrocious human rights records, and the US/UK sales of weapons to Saudi Arabia, is no "conspiracy theory"; it is hard evidence and fact, documented by the images and information I have chosen to share with our readers today.

And to my American brothers and sisters, and my English cousins, let me say this; we have to work together, in the most peaceful ways possible, to end this enabling of despots around the world by our respective governments.

U.S., Russia Reject Possibility of War Crimes Investigations
