Germany won't take part in US Strait of Hormuz initiative - FM

Germany will refuse to take part in a US-led maritime mission in the Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas announced. Maas said that there “cannot be a military solution” to the current crisis in the Persian Gulf.

Speaking in Warsaw, Poland, on Wednesday, Maas said that Germany will turn down Washington’s request, which was revealed by the US Embassy in Berlin on Tuesday. The joint US, British, and French operation is aimed at protecting sea traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and combatting so-called “Iranian aggression.”

The mission was conceived following Iran’s seizure of the British-flagged Stena Impero oil tanker earlier this month, itself widely considered a tit-for-tat response to Britain’s seizure of an Iranian tanker off the coast of Gibraltar several weeks earlier.

US Formally Asks Germany, France, UK to Take Part in Strait of Hormuz Mission to Counter Iran

Earlier, both German and British officials said they did not support the US's "maximum pressure" strategy against Tehran, instead welcoming an operation proposed by London for a European-led security effort to "protect" commercial vessels operating in the Persian Gulf and near the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States has officially requested Germany, France and the UK to join its military mission in the Gulf to 'combat Iranian aggression,' the US Embassy in Berlin has indicated.

"We have formally asked Germany to help with securing the Strait of Hormuz and fighting Iranian aggression, along with France and the UK," a spokeswoman from the Embassy told the German Press Agency on Tuesday.

'Speaking of failing badly, has anyone seen what is happening to Nancy Pelosi's district in San Francisco': Trump now attacks the House Speaker's city following his stinging attack on Baltimore and says Democrats 'always play the race card'

President Donald Trump is defending his verbal attack on the city of Baltimore and Rep. Elijah Cummings and has taken to Twitter to revile Nancy Pelosi and her district of San Francisco.

Trump sparked outrage on Saturday when he blasted Baltimore as a 'disgusting, rodent-infested mess' and Cummings as 'brutal bully', leading Speaker Pelosi and other Democrats to condemn the president for his harsh words.

But the president seemed unfazed and shifted his focus to Pelosi on Sunday writing, 'Speaking of failing badly, has anyone seen what is happening to Nancy Pelosi's district in San Francisco', adding 'it's not even recognizable lately'.

Government By Blackmail: Jeffrey Epstein,Trump's Mentor Roy Cohn and The Dark Secrets of The Reagan Era

July 25th, 2019

By Whitney Webb Whitney Webb
Jeffrey Epstein, the billionaire who now sits in jail on federal charges for the sex trafficking of minors, has continued to draw media scrutiny in the weeks after his arrest on July 6. Part of the reason for this continued media interest is related to Epstein’s alleged relationship to the intelligence services and new information about the true extent of the sexual blackmail operation Epstein is believed to have run for decades.

As MintPress reported last week, Epstein was able to run this sordid operation for so long precisely because his was only the latest incarnation of a much older, more extensive operation that began in the 1950s and perhaps even earlier.

After Mueller Debacle, Where Do Democrats Go?

The Democrats who were looking to cast Robert Mueller as the star in a TV special, “The Impeachment of Donald Trump,” can probably tear up the script. They're gonna be needing a new one. -- For six hours Wednesday, as three cable news networks and ABC, CBS and NBC all carried live the hearings of the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees, the Mueller report was thoroughly trashed. -- The special counsel stood by his findings. His investigation was not a “hoax” or “witch hunt,” he said. He admitted that he had found no Trump-Russia conspiracy. He denied he exonerated Trump of obstruction of justice.

Trump vetoes Congress bid to block Saudi and UAE $8bn arms sales

US President Donald Trump has vetoed congressional efforts to block $8bn in arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates that his administration had authorised without the approval of lawmakers.

Wednesday's vetoes come after both the Senate and the House of Representatives passed resolutions to halt the arms deals.

The State Department bypassed Congress to push the sales through by declaring an emergency, citing growing tensions with Iran.

The Senate will vote within the next few days on whether to override Trump's veto, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said.

Israel's Agents of Influence

Some journalists in the Jewish media are starting to complain that President Donald Trump is “loving Israel” just a little too much since he keeps citing his concern for the Jewish state as the driving force behind some of his erratic behavior. It is a viewpoint that I most definitely share, though I would describe the apparent White House lovefest with the Israel as a “lot too much.” When the President of the United States calls a congresswoman an anti-Semite and demands that she apologize to him personally and also to Israel it is definitely a lot too much.

IVANKA TRUMP MOCKED FOR GIVING 'ALL WHITE' DOG TO HER DAUGHTER

Americans may love dogs, but many took to Twitter with some harsh words for the one first daughter Ivanka Trump gifted her daughter.

"Meet Winter, Arabella's birthday dream come true and the newest member of the Kushner family!" Trump tweeted along with a heart-eyed emoji and a picture of a blue-eyed white dog.

Some Twitter users interpreted Trump's present to her eight-year-old daughter Arabella Rose Kushner as a sign the senior White House adviser prefers whiteness, like her father President Donald Trump has been accused of preferring. Recently, she has also been criticized for remaining largely silent on the president's controversial immigration policies.

Trump says Squad is 'destroying the Democrat Party'

President Trump called out the four freshman congresswomen known as "The Squad," claiming that not only are they bad for America as a whole, they are damaging their own party.

The criticism comes amid a two-fronted political battle that Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley have been engaged in of late; one against Trump, and another against the Democratic establishment, led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"I don’t believe the four Congresswomen are capable of loving our Country," Trump tweeted Sunday morning. "They should apologize to America (and Israel) for the horrible (hateful) things they have said. They are destroying the Democrat Party, but are weak & insecure people who can never destroy our great Nation!"

Trump Is Back Under Bolton’s Thumb

President Trump might be his own man, but not when it comes to John Bolton and Israel. Trump is their man and is again being manipulated into starting a fisticuffs with Iran.

Someone in Washington, most likely Ziocon warmonger Bolton, got the UK to commit an act of piracy on the high seas and seize an Iranian oil tanker, Grace 1, on the grounds that Iran intended to deliver the oil to Syria in violation of US sanctions.

Iran’s leader, Khamenei, denounced Washington’s British stooge for “maritime banditry” and said there would be consequences. Today there were. Iran detained two British tankers.

This is what Bolton and Netanyahu wanted. They used it to wind up Trump’s fulminations against Iran. The trouble that the idiot British started with Iran is no concern of ours, but Trump’s threats are nevertheless issuing at a rapid pace.

Pentagon Confirms Removing Turkey From F-35 Fighter Jet Program

Pentagon officials confirmed on Wednesday that Turkey has been removed from the F-35 fighter jet program, despite President Trump complaining about how “unfair” it was to America to have to do so just the day before.

US law established a mechanism for punishing other nations who buy weapons from Russia, and threatened Turkey time and against for buying the S-400. Turkey began taking delivery of the S-400, and that set the US move to ban them from accessing the F-35 jets.

Trump didn’t like this, because the F-35 isn’t exactly flying off the shelves and Turkey was a potential customer. Undersecretary of Defense Ellen Lord argued that all the nations partnered on the F-35 are “aligned in this decision to suspend Turkey.”

Impeachment caucus forms: Rep’s rogue resolution reveals scores of Dems gunning for Trump

A doomed attempt to bring articles of impeachment against President Trump failed miserably Wednesday night as expected, but the roll call put scores of Democrats on record in support of at least keeping the effort alive -- revealing that bloc has grown substantially in recent months.

Even as Democratic leaders have pushed back against impeachment proceedings at this stage, more and more prominent members -- including the freshman firebrands who were the targets of Trump's Twitter ire over the weekend -- have supported the drive. Wednesday’s resolution was brought by Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, who repeatedly has sought to impeach Trump.

"The president has committed an impeachable offense," Green said on the House floor Wednesday. "Yesterday, we condemned him for that. Today is our opportunity to punish him."

US President Donald Trump’s racist attacks on Democratic members of Congress, which included allegations about their views on Israel, is a dangerous development for Israel, reported analysts.

It “will further undermine what Israel has long prided itself on having accomplished: keeping Israel an issue that receives bipartisan support in the halls of Congress”, Katz continued.

The Heirs of MAGA—Who Will Lead Historic American Nation After Trump?

Overall, President Donald Trump has disappointed patriots but he’s still set in motion a Republican transformation that can’t be stopped. The top concerns for GOP voters now: building the wall and limiting legal and illegal immigration. Serious Republican candidates for office now have to talk about immigration to maintain grassroots credibility—or else, like Justin Amash, quit before they are fired

Rather than being a revolutionary candidate, President Trump may have just been a transitional one, between the old conservative Republicans of the past and the New National Conservatism (nothing to do with the neutered version now frantically pedaled by Yoram Hazony et al) of the future. New leaders are emerging to take up the MAGA mantle—and old leaders are adapting.

Big Pharma’s stock values PLUMMET after President Trump announces executive order on drug prices

On July 5, the day after Independence Day, President Trump announced that in lieu of any formidable action by Congress, his administration is planning to issue an executive order that will force drug companies to sell their drugs here in the United States for the same amount that they do in the lowest paying foreign nations.

In other words, American patients will pay no more than what patients do in countries where drug prices are sold for the cheapest price. This will ensure that Big Pharma doesn’t get away with price-gouging First World countries for life-saving medications when those same medications are being sold for far less in the Third World.

Trump 'is set upon an act of diplomatic vandalism': Sir Kim Darroch's cables describe how Boris failed to save Iran deal, claim the President was against it for 'personality reasons' and suggest splits among White House advisors

Standing in front of Corinthian columns at the US Department of State, Boris Johnson vigorously pumped the hand of his American counterpart Mike Pompeo and gave a thumbs-up to reporters.

But as the Foreign Secretary turned on his heels after the photocall, he knew that his hastily arranged diplomatic mission to Washington was on the brink of failure.

It was May 7, 2018, and Mr Johnson had been hurriedly dispatched to make a last-ditch plea to President Donald Trump not to abandon a nuclear deal with Iran, regarded by many experts as critical to prevent the regime from building an atomic bomb.

During a frantic 26 hours of meetings, Mr Johnson met all the key 'Trump Whisperers' – those advisers with the ear of America's unpredictable leader. It became clear, however, that despite the 'special relationship' between Britain and the US, Mr Johnson was not going to change the President's mind.

Trump Might Fire Ross Over Citizenship Question Embarrassment

After more than a year of rumors about the commerce secretary's imminent departure, it seems as if President Trump has finally had enough of the Commerce Secretary whom Trump once claimed was "past his prime."

NBC News reports that Trrump has told his aides that he's considering firing Ross after the Commerce Department failed to convince the Supreme Court that the citizenship question should be added to the 2020 census. SCOTUS rejected the government's argument because, or so it claimed, the Commerce Department's lawyer didn't adequately explain why the question was essential, and urged Ross to come back with a better reason.

But Ross has survived previous rumors of his imminent firing, and with Labor Secretary Alex Acosta having only just departed over his role in striking the 'sweetheart' deal for Jeffrey Epstein, the Trump administration has nearly two dozen acting secretaries or deputies that some have sarcastically labeled a currency crisis.

House Passes $733 Billion NDAA to Veto Threat, Uncertain Future

In a 220-197 vote early Friday afternoon, the House of Representatives passed the $733 billion 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), setting the stage for multiple battles, including a party-line fight over reconciling House and Senate versions.

Senate leaders blocked a lot of similar amendments in their version of the NDAA, many of them seen as controversial to the Trump Administration. The House version included a lot of amendments, preemptively defunding an attack on Iran, defunding the Yemen War, and moving to repeal both the 2001 and 2002 AUMFs.

The tough language trying to see Congress reclaim its authority over wars is driving President Trump to threaten a veto if he ends up faced with the House version as the final bill. The House seems determined to stand up for at least some of these amendments.

Trump forces 'staffing up' to end GOP losing streak in Minnesota

Days after President Donald Trump officially announced his 2020 re-election bid, Minnesota Republican Party Chairwoman Jennifer Carnahan attended a picnic on the White House lawn. As they posed for a selfie, the state GOP leader thanked the president for making three visits to the state since taking office.

“I told him, ‘We appreciate you coming and we hope to see you here at least as many times before the election next year,’?” Carnahan said.

The president’s response: “I will be there.”

Minnesotans have picked the Democratic nominee for the White House in every election since 1972. Trump, who lost the state by just 1.5 percentage points in 2016, believes he can end that streak. With 15 months to go until the general election, the GOP is doubling down on efforts to turn Minnesota red, putting national campaign staff on the ground and hosting a series of training sessions to mobilize Republican voters.

Did Trump just toss House Dems a lifeline?

One of the most important rules in partisan politics is this: when your opponents are fighting amongst themselves, stay out of it. House Democrats spent the last few days in a civil war over whether Nancy Pelosi and the Congressional Black Caucus are racists or whether the “Freshman Squad” are idiots.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime apotheosis of that axiom, a singular and historic opportunity to let the party of identity politics shred itself to pieces over it.

That is, unless a Republican interrupted it and gives both sides a new target. Enter Donald Trump:

Secret Service stop full-on BRAWL in the White House Rose Garden after Trump's social media summit: Conservative activist storms across lawn to confront 'punk' CNN analyst who invited him 'outside' and said 'get a job' in front of a chanting crowd

Tempers flared in the Rose Garden of the White House on Thursday as an outspoken Playboy magazine writer nearly came to blows with conservative activist and former Donald Trump aide Sebastian Gorka.

The encounter happened in full view of more than 100 right-wing social media stars who were at the White House for a 'summit' focused on grievances against Twitter and Facebook.

A Secret Service agent ultimately intervened to separate the two men.

Playboy's White House correspondent Brian Karem, who doubles as a CNN political analyst, started the melee by telling the conservatives that they were 'a group of people that are eager for demonic possession.'

Two Years Later, Trump Has Failed To Reverse America's Decline

President Donald Trump was partly voted into office by Americans who felt that the self-proclaimed greatest power on Earth was actually in decline - and they weren’t wrong. Trump is capable of tweeting many things, but none of those tweets will stop that process of decline, nor will a trade war with a rising China or fierce oil sanctions on Iran.

You could feel this recently, even in the case of the increasingly pressured Iranians. There, with a single pinprick, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei effectively punctured Trump’s MAGA balloon and reminded many that, however powerful the U.S. still was, people in other countries were beginning to look at America differently at the end of the second decade of the twenty-first century.

Donald Trump has withdrawn cartoonist Ben Garrison's invitation to the White House, but he can't conceal the rise of antisemitism

As the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported this week, Donald Trump's White House invited a cartoonist, Ben Garrison, to a social media summit. The reason this is a controversial invitation is that Garrison has form, having penned images depicting the financier George Soros and members of the Rothchild family as sinister puppeteers.

Why the Trump White House Is Caught Up in the Jeffrey Epstein Scandal

Mr. Acosta, whom Mr. Trump nominated as labor secretary in 2017, has faced intense scrutiny for his role in Mr. Epstein’s deal to avoid prosecution, which has been widely criticized as shockingly lenient.

A series of investigative stories by The Herald last year revealed that Mr. Acosta was personally involved in the negotiations. He met privately with one of Mr. Epstein’s lawyers, who was also one of Mr. Acosta’s former colleagues.

In subsequent weeks, prosecutors from Mr. Acosta’s office gave Mr. Epstein’s lawyers an unusual amount of control over the terms of the plea deal, The Herald reported.

“Thank you for the commitment you made to me,’’ Mr. Epstein’s lawyer wrote in a letter to Mr. Acosta after their meeting, noting that Mr. Acosta had assured him that he would not contact “any of the identified individuals, potential witnesses or potential civil claimants,” The Herald reported.

Trump unleashes on Fox News: 'They forgot the people who got them there'

President Trump slammed Fox News and its reporting in a series of tweets Sunday evening, claiming the conservative-leaning network is "changing fast" and forgetting "the people who got them there."

"Watching @FoxNews weekend anchors is worse than watching low ratings Fake News @CNN, or Lyin’ Brian Williams," the president said.

"But @FoxNews, who failed in getting the very BORING Dem debates, is now loading up with Democrats & even using Fake unsourced @nytimes as a 'source' of information (ask the Times what they paid for the Boston Globe, & what they sold it for (lost 1.5 Billion Dollars), or their old headquarters building disaster, or their unfunded liability? @FoxNews is changing fast, but they forgot the people who got them there!"

In America Money Literally Is Time - Unless Of Course You're Bernie Sanders

Money raised graphed against speaking time in the first Democratic presidential debate. As usual, there's a relationship that is nearly one to one.

What is anomalous is the 'lower tier candidate' effect: slightly less bang for their buck.

And downright unusual is the amount of time given -- or should I say not given -- to Bernie Sanders.

IAEA Board to Meet Wednesday on Iran at Demand of US

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced that they will hold a special meeting on Iran’s civilian nuclear program on Wednesday, centered around US allegations that Iran is in violation of the P5+1 nuclear deal.

The US accused Iran of being in violation once their uranium stockpile exceeded 300 kg. Iran has denied that this is a violation, and says the stockpile cap was voluntary since the US withdrew from the deal.

At the time, of course, the president was ridiculed for even uttering such a thing.

Well, here we are, less than 24 months after he made that prediction and Thomas Jefferson is next. And this time it’s not just a statue.

White House national security adviser John Bolton on Thursday welcomed Britain’s seizure of an oil tanker loaded with Iranian oil bound for Syria, saying the United States and its allies will continue to prevent Syrian and Iranian governments “from profiting off this illicit trade.”

British Royal Marines seized a giant Iranian oil tanker in Gibraltar on Thursday for trying to take oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions, a dramatic step that drew Tehran’s fury and could escalate its confrontation with the West.

Trump's Patriotism vs. the New Anti-Americanism

Despite all the grousing and griping about his “politicizing” of the Fourth of July and “militarizing” America’s birthday, President Donald Trump turned the tables on his antagonists, and pulled it off.

As master of ceremonies and keynote speaker at his “Salute to America” Independence Day event, Trump was a manifest success.

A president acting as president is almost always a more effective campaigner than a president acting as campaigner. And Trump, in what he said and did not say, played the president Thursday night.

The crowd on the Mall was huge and friendly, extending from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument. The TV coverage was excellent. Friday, virtually every major newspaper had front-page stories and photos.

'A narcissistic travesty': critics savage Trump's Independence Day jamboree

When Donald Trump holds an Independence Day celebration with fireworks, flyovers and battle tanks at the heart of American democracy on the Fourth of July, critics fear that he will be unable to resist turning it into a vainglorious and politically divisive campaign rally.

They are also demanding that the US president foots the bill for any damage caused to Washington’s roads, bridges and monuments by his “authoritarian-style” display of military pomp.

The US president will deliver an Independence Day speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial, which honours the president who won the civil war and helped end slavery and was the site of civil rights leader Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech a century later.

Donald Trump Breaks Twitter by Calling Ivanka and Pompeo 'Beauty and the Beast'

US President Donald Trump has been widely criticised for feeding the political ambitions of his daughter Ivanka; the former businesswoman and current presidential adviser has been increasingly involved in the country's policy-making.

Donald Trump has once again demonstrated his fondness for nicknames, by comparing his beloved daughter Ivanka and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to characters from the well-known fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast".

"Mike, come up here Mike. And you know who else we have here? Has anyone ever heard of Ivanka? Alright come up Ivanka. Come on. She's going to steal the show. What a beautiful couple — Mike — Beauty and the Beast", he said as he introduced them while addressing a gathering of Air Force personnel at Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, South Korea.

AOC and Piers Morgan Twitter-duel over Ivanka Trump’s role as amateur diplomat

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has gotten into internet fisticuffs with Piers Morgan after the Good Morning Britain host suggested that Ocasio-Cortez, a former bartender, shouldn’t criticize the job qualifications of Ivanka Trump.

The e-sparring began after the freshman Democratic lawmaker took aim at Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka for her conspicuous participation in the recent G20 summit in Osaka, Japan. In a video that quickly went viral, Ivanka was seen hobnobbing at the summit with French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Theresa May and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Ocasio-Cortez argued that “being someone’s daughter actually isn’t a career qualification” and that Trump should have brought a “qualified diplomat” to the international gathering.

Nope. That denunciation of John Bolton interventionism came from Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii during Wednesday night's Democratic debate. At 38, she was the youngest candidate on stage.

Gabbard proceeded to rip both the "president and his chickenhawk cabinet (who) have led us to the brink of war with Iran."
