In fact, technology isn't even necessarily "progressing"

George

Shopping for technology is basically an irrational belief that the next item will suck less than your current one. If you live in the First World, you can afford to buy pricier things to fail on you. But from where I sit, the new tech is actually getting less capable (e.g.: printing, etc. gone) than its predecessors. It's not becoming “more useable” only “more shiny”.

At this rate, eventually everything around us (including your toaster ) will be a mirror, and that’s when we’ll realize, most of us don’t even care that much to look at ourselves. We only stare at the shiny gadgets to ignore each other; they are means of self-impairment like alcohol, ideology or media.
