THE BOTCHED INFILTRATION OF VENEZUELA LEAVES GUAIDÓ TAINTED BEYOND REPAIR

SOURCE: MINT PRESS
The latest chapter in the ongoing effort to overthrow the Venezuelan government reads like a bad spy thriller: a group of mercenaries piloted speedboats from Colombia to Venezuela; half of them were killed or captured by Venezuelan security forces immediately upon landing, while the other half – apparently delayed by mechanical issues with their boat – surrendered to local police and militia the next day. Thirty-nine attackers have been captured so far, including two Americans, both former special forces soldiers. Their plan was to capture or kill high-value targets, including Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Instead, it failed miserably and raised more concerns about the leadership of opposition figure Juan Guaidó.

Guaidó’s Insidious Contract

Webmaster's Commentary:

As Ron White was fond of saying in his stand-up routine, "You can't fix stupid"; and anyone with more than 2 brain cells circulating in their heads within spitting distance of whoever in this administration signed off on this insanity, HAD to understand that Maduro's security has become increasingly sophisticated in their understanding of how these efforts are supposed to work.

"Plausible deniability"?!? In two short words, HELL, NO!!!!!

And here are a couple of companion pieces, from antiwar.com:

Venezuelan TV Exposed Failed Incursion OVER A MONTH before it happened.

US government wants release of two Special Forces Veterans who lead failed Coup/Invasion of Venezuela And THAT, my friends, will be the moment when pigs discover they are aerodynamic!!

One last statement, coming from globalresearch.ca from China:

China Will Not Accept Any US Invasion in Venezuela: Spokeswoman Hua Chunying The article goes on to state: "China repudiates the United States’ attempt of a naval invasion of Venezuela and all interventionist maneuvers against the sovereignty of any country.

Through a statement, the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chunying, stressed again this Wednesday her rejection of the United States’ aggression against Venezuela and has emphasized that Beijing will not accept any US invasion plan in the South American country.

“We reject the violation of the sovereignty of Venezuela by any means or excuse, in addition, we call to prioritize the welfare of the people, work together to safeguard national stability and promote the peaceful resolution of the situation in the Caribbean country,” stressed the spokeswoman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

China, reads the note, has always been in favor of respecting the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and the basic rules that govern international relations against the policies of hostility of the United States towards the Maduro government." No gray area here, President Trump; so what are you going to do to Venezuela now?!?

Italy: China's Trojan Horse Into Europe

Authored Giulio Meotti via The Gatestone InStitute,

A few days after China had announced it was sending medical supplies to Italy, Chinese state media aired pictures of Italians on balconies and streets applauding the Chinese national anthem. "In Rome, with the Chinese anthem playing, some Italians chanted 'Grazie, Cina!' on their balconies, & their neighbors applauded along", wrote Zhao Lijian, the spokesman for China's foreign ministry who shamefully and wrongly suggested that the U.S. military had brought the Covid-19 to Wuhan.

China presented itself in the role of the savior, willing to rush to the bedside of the sick patient Italy.

Now a Financial Times investigation reveals that those videos were manipulated as part of Beijing's coronavirus propaganda. Hashtags #ThanksChina and #GoChina&Italy were further generated by bots. A report by the Carnegie Endowment called Italy "a target destination for China's propaganda".

Apple To Move A Fifth Of iPhone Production From China To India In Massive Supply-Chain Shift

One reason why the global economy will never be the same after the coronavirus pandemic is long forgotten, is that supply-chains - which have been in place for decades, taking advantage of China's cheap labor costs and keeping global inflation in check - are being gutted and overhauled, in many cases from scratch.

A perfect example of this is Apple's quiet transition away from China and into the country that is emerging as the next labor superpower: India. According to Inc42, "Apple is looking to move nearly a fifth of its iPhone and other electronics production capacity from China to India to get benefits under the Indian government’s production-linked incentives (PLI) scheme", which was launched to incentivize local handset manufacturing and exports.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is one heck of a huge move on the part of Apple.

‘Aggressive confrontation’ between Indian & Chinese troops causes injuries on both sides, reports claim

More than a hundred soldiers were involved in a confrontation along the contentious Indian-Chinese border in the Himalayas, Indian media reported. The encounter allegedly left injuries on both sides.

Citing two high-ranking military sources, the Hindustan Times said that the incident occurred at a mountainous pass at a height of more than 5,000m (16,400ft) along the border with China in India’s northeastern Sikkim State on Saturday.

“Four Indian soldiers and seven Chinese troops suffered injuries during the confrontation that involved around 150 soldiers,” an unnamed officer told the paper, describing the incident as an “aggressive confrontation.”

US Navy Sends Ships to Confront China, Warns China Against ‘Bullying’

The US Navy is once again sending ships into the South China Sea deliberately to confront China, and commander Admiral John Aquilino says that the US insists “the Chinese Communist Party must end its pattern of bullying.“

China has substantial maritime claims in the South China Sea, and to the extent they conflict with those of other nations, the US has always backed the other nations’ claims. The US regularly sends ships into the South China Sea, near China-claimed islands, to prove that they can do so.

Admiral Aquilino says the US ships are championing “freedom of the seas and the rule of law.” These are minor ships and probably won’t register as a threat to China. The US is sending the tiny littoral combat ship, the USS Montgomery, and a dry cargo ship.

While China has major interests in the disputed waters of the South China Sea, the US does not – but it still sends military vessels there under the pretext of upholding freedom of navigation in the region.

Both Washington and Beijing have intensified their military activities in the South China Sea over the course of 2020 compared to the same time period in 2019, despite the ongoing pandemic - which has impacted at least part of the US Navy's forces.

Wuhan Biolab Where Coronavirus Was Studied Mysteriously Shut Down In October, Report Claims

Another leaked intelligence document has been leaked to the press to help support suspicions that the coronavirus currently ravaging the US and much of the global community may have leaked from a biolab in Wuhan.

NBC News reports that a document that has been shared among several Republican lawmakers points to evidence that the virus may have emerged even earlier than the global community believes. In recent days, the French government confirmed suspicions that the country's first case might have arrived as early as December, while in the US, the earliest suspected COVID-19-linked death occurred on Feb. 6, weeks earlier than previously believed.

China, Iran Are On The March

There is so much focus on the COVID-19 pandemic right now that Americans can’t be blamed if they’re not spending much time studying other developments.

That’s understandable, but inattention may be as dangerous as the virus itself. That’s because America’s adversaries are taking advantage of the situation by challenging U.S. interests in a set of geopolitical hot spots.

They believe we’re too distracted by the virus containment effort to mount a firm response.

China's president Xi Jinping 'personally asked WHO to hold back information about human-to-human transmission and delayed the global response by four to six WEEKS' at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak, bombshell report claims

A bombshell report claims Chinese President Xi Jinping personally asked World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom to 'delay a global warning' about the threat of COVID-19 during a conversation back in January.

Germany's Der Spiegel published the allegations this weekend, citing intelligence from the country's Federal Intelligence Service, known as the 'Bundesnachrichtendienst' (BND).

According to the BND: 'On January 21, China's leader Xi Jinping asked WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to hold back information about a human-to-human transmission and to delay a pandemic warning.

'The BND estimates that China's information policy lost four to six weeks to fight the virus worldwide'.

US B-1B Bombers Again Fly Near Chinese Airspace Amid 'New Cold War' Threat

It goes without saying that US-China relations have reached their lowest point in decades, with a former Trump administration trade official warning the spike in tensions brought on by the corona crisis on the heels of the trade war has marked "the start of a new Cold War".

Former top White House trade negotiator Clete Willems told CNBC's Squawk Box Asia on Tuesday: “The reality is that tensions between the United States and China are rising considerably at the moment.”

“I know people get uncomfortable with the terminology, but I do think we have to be honest and call this what it is and this is the start of a new Cold War and if we’re not careful, things could get much, much worse,” Willems added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is stupidly childish, on the part of the US government and the Trump Administration; we don't have the weaponry or troop strength to prevail in an all-out military confrontation with China, which most likely, Russia will join on China's side.

It appears that the current administration, rather than really taking an intelligent look at the existing problems in government and trade, and trying to fix them, has decided to "blame everything on China", including its underwhelming, and thoroughly misaligned, response to the Covid 19 crisis.

Right now, the most terrifying words any American could hear in their worst nightmares, are "We're from the Federal Government, and we are here to help you!!."

The current administration had no plan, other than lockdown, which assisted in the utter destruction of an already fragile economy, and a race for a cure, no matter how rife such a cure might be with horrific side-effects, which will soon be "mandated" for all Americans, if one wants to work, go to school, or have your kids attend school.

"Moral Vacuum" Exposed - European Leaders Cower In The Face Of China

Authored by Soeren Kern via The Gatestone Institute

Australia and the United States are leading a campaign for an independent inquiry into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic. Senior officials in both countries are seeking to determine if the virus originated in nature or in a Chinese laboratory. They are also calling on the Chinese government to account for its handling of the initial outbreak in the city of Wuhan.

While Europeans cower in the face of Communist China, they have found time to issue threats against the only democracy in the Middle East. On April 30, eleven European ambassadors to Israel warned Jerusalem of "severe consequences" if it goes ahead with plans to annex parts of the West Bank.

In a lengthy essay published by Die Welt, Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer, Europe's largest publishing company, argued that the time has come for Europe to choose between the United States and China:

Webmaster's Commentary:

I find this article very interesting, in both its characterisation of China, and of Israel.

Warfare, in this part of the 21st century, can be very much achieved without a single bomb being dropped, and that has to do with hitting an economy hard, with sanctions, and pressure on other countries to avoid buying anything from the targeted country; we are seeing that now from the standpoint of the US governmental pressure on China to admit, whether or not it truly happened, that it was the origin of Covid 19, and it was not forthcoming with enough information to "save" Americans who have either been sickened by, or died from, this virus.

For the authors of this article not to understand that such a Chinese "surveillance/social credit" system is being actively pursued by the US government and beyond, and will be employed just as quickly as the US Deep State believes it can "softly" install it, is amazingly naive.

And as to Israel being "the only democracy in the Middle East"?!?

Please, folks, give me a break here!!!

How can one talk of a democracy, when one group of people consistently has its civil rights violated 24/7, gets shot at, has the limbs blown off their kids and generally assassinated for no bloody reason whatsoever, other than this group being "the other"?!?

How can you talk of a "democracy" with a government enmeshed in such a depth and history of corruption and paranoia which, if reasonably documented, would fill computer disks from here to eternity, for a country which is only 72 years old?!?

Because unless and until Palestinians have full voting rights in the "Eretz Israel" which is being created, through this brisk annexation coming about in the West Bank in July of this year, there is no justice, and no democracy in the State of Israel, period, end of discussion.

And Palestinian "leadership" (or what passes for it) needs to get its collective act together, to advocate, immediately, for this to become the case, when this annexation becomes a fait accompli.

US Scrambles to Buy New Missiles to Challenge China

With US-Chinese tensions at their worst level in decades, new military budget details reveal plans for the US to spend substantially on new guided missiles, particularly being sought as a way of catching up to China’s capabilities, and challenging them further in the Pacific.

Pentagon officials have argued there is a “missile gap” with China, a claim that seemed to be based on the idea of getting more funding for more advanced missiles. This has broadly been successful, even more so now that officials are emphasizing tensions with the Chinese.

Though the US spends vastly more than any other nation on its military, the Pentagon has long emphasized minor points of competition to justify massive outlays of additional cash. This has tended to work very well, which is why US military spending keeps growing.

Beijing May Dump US Treasuries In Response To US Hostility, Start Its Own QE: Chinese Media

In response to recent media speculation that as the blame game over the origins of the coronavirus pandemic escalates the US may cancel some of its $1.1 trillion debt owed to China, the South China Morning Post reported today that China may "move to reduce its vast holdings of US Treasury securities in the coming months" in response to a resurgence in trade tensions and a war of words between the world’s two largest economies.

While analysts have also said that the US was highly unlikely to take the “nuclear option” of cancelling Chinese-held debt, with Larry Kudlow himself refuting this suggestion on several occasions last week, the "mere fact that the idea has been discussed could well prompt Beijing to seek to insulate itself from the risk by reducing its US government debt holdings", the SCMP writes.

As we noted earlier, Secretary Mnuchin was clearly dealing with some serious stress last night as President Trump stormed about the possibility of cancelling the US-China trade pact, fuming about the uncertainty surrounding whether China plans to honor the agreement.

As the bilateral relationship deteriorates to its most caustic point since Nixon met Mao, Bloomberg reports that Chinese and US trade negotiators will speak as soon as next week on progress in implementing a phase-one deal after Trump threatened to "terminate" the agreement if Beijing didn't move to swiftly adhere to its terms.

In a must-read piece detailing the evolution of the US-China relationship from productive partnership to bitter rivalry, WSJ reported that back in January, President Trump resisted pressing China to be more transparent about the emerging virus, and the risks it might pose to the global community.

Since President Trump revoked funding for the WHO last month and a British newspaper appeared to confirm that western intelligence agencies (including US intelligence) were investigating the possibility that the virus might have leaked from a biolab in Wuhan, hostilities between Beijing and Washington have taken off, with China's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday prodding Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to show 'proof' that the virus came from the Wuhan lab.

NZ Foreign Minister Winston Peters tells China's NZ Ambassador to 'listen to your master' after criticism

Foreign Minister Winston Peters is blasting China's embassy in New Zealand, telling its ambassador to "listen to your master" after she was critical of his recent Taiwan comments.

This comes after Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern revealed that when New Zealand goes into alert level 2, indoor gatherings of fewer than 100 people will be allowed.

Peters has also revealed that the New Zealand Government is supporting a push to formally get Taiwan back in the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Trump Administration "Turbocharging" Efforts To Grapple Global Supply Chains From China

President Trump's trade war is back. It's an election year, and the efforts by the administration to 'turbocharge' an initiative to deglobalize that world by removing critical supply chains from China could be seen with new rounds of tariffs to strike Beijing for its handling of the COVID-19 outbreak, US officials told Reuters.

It's clear that coronavirus lockdowns have resulted in a crashed economy with more than 30 million people unemployed have derailed President Trump's normal campaigning process and the promises of a vibrant economy. This could suggest President Trump is about to unleash tariff hell on Beijing as it would do two things: First, it would pressure US companies with supply chains in China to exit, and second, the president can say the tariffs are a punishment for the more than 68,000 Americans that have died from the virus.

The Deeper Historical Roots of Chinese Demonization

Fasten your seat belts: the US hybrid war against China is bound to go on frenetic overdrive, as economic reports are already identifying Covid-19 as the tipping point when the Asian – actually Eurasian – century truly began.

The US strategy remains, essentially, full spectrum dominance, with the National Security Strategy obsessed by the three top “threats” of China, Russia and Iran. China, in contrast, proposes a “community of shared destiny” for mankind, mostly addressing the Global South.

The predominant US narrative in the ongoing information war is now set in stone: Covid-19 was the result of a leak from a Chinese biowarfare lab. China is responsible. China lied. And China has to pay.

Does Weaponizing a Pandemic and Blaming China “Make America Great Again”?

United States president Donald Trump is proud of the US effort against COVID-19. In his 1 May remarks on protecting America’s seniors, he said,

Through aggressive actions and the devotion of our doctors and nurses, however, we have held our fatality rate far below hard-hit other countries such as Spain and Italy and United Kingdom and Sweden. We’re way below other countries.

Trump employs the logical fallacy of the confirmation bias. In this case, he selectively chooses from among the most ravaged world nations suffering from COVID-19 to compare the US. There are 190 or so other countries where the US does not fare so well in comparison. Why doesn’t Trump compare the US to his designated enemies of the US? Why not compare the US to Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, Russia, and especially China? Maybe Trump won’t do that, but the rest of us can look at the data and compare.

Congressman: Nancy Pelosi Blocking Investigation into Chinese Coronavirus Origins, Tax Money to Wuhan Lab

Rep. Appearing on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel, Reschenthaler discussed his efforts to investigate tax dollars that flowed through a New York firm to the Wuhan lab. He said that Pelosi and House Democrats are not interested in holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable and, instead, want to focus their oversight efforts on politically harming President Trump again just like they tried and failed with the partisan impeachment last year and earlier this year.

China's Exploiting The COVID-19 Pandemic To Expand In Asia

While the rest of the world is preoccupied with tackling the coronavirus pandemic, China is intensifying its efforts to extend its influence in the South China Sea by intimidating its Asian neighbours.

The arrival of China's Liaoning aircraft carrier, together with five accompanying warships, in the South China Sea earlier this month has resulted in a significant increase in tensions in the Asia-Pacific region as Beijing seeks to take advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to flex its muscles.

So far in April, there were claims that a Chinese coast guard vessel deliberately rammed and sank a Vietnamese fishing boat operating close to the disputed Paracel Islands. All the fishermen survived and were transferred to two other Vietnamese fishing vessels operating nearby.

US Deploys Heavy Bombers, Hundreds of Airmen to Guam to ‘Deter China’

The deployment comes following the quiet withdrawal of five B-52 nuclear-capable Stratofortress bombers from Guam to the US mainland in mid-April, which temporarily froze the Pentagon’s 16-year-long ‘Continuous Bomber Presence’ mission on the Pacific island.

The US Air Force has transferred four B-1B Lancer conventional strike bombers and a complement of about 200 airmen from a base in Texas to the Andersen Air Force Base on the island of Guam, US Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) has confirmed.

The deployment, described as a temporary one, comes amid growing tensions between Beijing and Washington, both in the South China Sea territorial dispute, and the back and forth claims about who’s responsible for the global coronavirus crisis. Last week, Beijing reported “expelling” the USS Barry, a US guided-missile destroyer, out of waters in the South China Sea after shadowing it from an island chain contested by China and Vietnam.

US wrecking the entire world economy to take down China

The US government is sending mixed signals about the origin of the novel coronavirus.

The US intelligence community, like the people who allegedly work with the intelligence community in the biowarfare community, have from the very beginning been screaming at the top of their lungs that this virus was not made in a lab. It's natural. It came from bats.

But then, somewhere along the line, a new chorus erupted from a certain corner of the Trump administration and their allies, saying that, “Well, that may be true, but we are more and more sure that it escaped from the Wuhan lab.”

CIA & MI6 put together 'scientific' dossier ‘targeting China's Covid-19 cover-up’ - as West readies to demand Beijing COMPENSATION

The West’s wish to pin the blame on China (and probably the bill too) for the Covid-19 pandemic has been reportedly incarnated in a 15-page dossier compiled by intelligence agencies, which has now leaked, according to reports.

The document, described by the Australian newspaper the Sunday Telegraph, was prepared by “concerned Western governments.” The publication mentions that the Five Eyes intelligence agencies are investigating China, pointing to the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK.

The authors of the research found some pretty strange ways to paint China’s response to the outbreak in a negative and even sinister way. For instance, despite a presumed requirement for brevity in such a short paper it refers to a study which claimed the killer coronavirus had been created in a lab.

Will US allow Chinese investigators to inspect bio-weapons lab in Maryland?

Fort Detrick, in Maryland, has been the epicenter of the US Army’s bio-weapons research since the beginning of the Cold War.
President Donald Trump has no right to make spurious coronavirus accusations against China since the United States is unlikely to allow Chinese investigators to inspect the US bio-weapons lab at Fort Detrick in Maryland, according to American political analyst Dennis Etler.

Trump on Thursday contradicted a statement from his own intelligence agencies by claiming that he has seen evidence that gives him a "high degree of confidence" the coronavirus originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence said on Thursday that the US intelligence community has concluded that the novel coronavirus originated in China but was not man-made or engineered.

Webmaster's Commentary:

CAN'T TELL US?!? NOT ALLOWED TO TELL US THAT?!?

Mr. President; you have some 'splaining to do!!

Accusing China because it is politically expedient, unless you have irrefutable evidence; and with an economy in free-fall, and everything you have tried to shore up the US position at home and abroad, has failed utterly, leaves most thinking Americans in a state of absolute, abject disgust at the activities of this Administration.

Mr. President, thinking Americans understand that we have utterly no choice in our leadership against the machinations of the US Deep State,; what we get, consistently, are serial liars and brilliantly presenting sociopaths, all attempting their verbal anaesthesia to "assure us" that they will change the fundamental problems with this country.

And then, they can't.

You, sir, are behaving like an utterly failed President; and I must politely suggest to you that you had everything going for you, when you took the oath of office in 2017.

But you have squandered it all on your expanded wars; crushing the economy with this Covid-19 lockdown; your cronies; on slavish obedience to the warhawks, and war-whisperers, who tell you that a shooting war against both Russia and China are winnable (they're lying, but you've got your bunker, right?!?)

And yet again, the American people are simply expendable, and no longer matter.

The deadly coronavirus originated from a virology lab in China's Wuhan city before it spread across the world and claimed over 233,000 lives and shattered global economies, US President Donald Trump has said.
Trump's comments undercut a rare public statement from his own intelligence community on Thursday which stated no such assessment has been made by them whether the COVID-19 outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.

WHO should be ashamed for acting like China's PR agency, says Donald Trump amid COVID-19 crisis

US President Donald Trump came down heavily on the World Health Organisation (WHO) saying it should be 'ashamed for acting like the public relations agency for China'. The Trump Administration has already suspended the US' financial assistance to WHO, temporarily and has launched a probe into WHO's role in the coronavirus COVID-19 spread.
While talking to reporters from White House on Thursday, Trump said, "I think that the World Health Organization should be ashamed of themselves because they are like the public relations agency for China," Trump said

US State Dept. Says Russia and China Have No Reason to Vote Against Prolonging Iran Arms Embargo

Russia and China have no reason to vote against the prolongation of the arms embargo on Iran, US Special Representative for Iran, and Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State Brian Hook said.

"Russia and China have great equities in a peaceful and stable the Middle East, and Iran’s sectarian violence and its export of weapons is the principal driver of instability in the Middle East today. And because they voted on it in the past, there’s no reason why it can’t be voted on again", Hook told reporters on late Thursday.

America The Victim: Are Enemies Lining Up For Revenge In The Wake Of COVID-19?

Authored by Philip Giraldi via The Strategic Culture Foundation,

When in trouble politically, governments have traditionally conjured up a foreign enemy to explain why things are going wrong.

Whatever one chooses to believe about the coronavirus, the fact is that it has resulted in considerable political backlash against a number of governments whose behavior has been perceived as either too extreme or too dilatory. Donald Trump’s White House has taken shots from both directions and the response to the disease has also been pilloried due to repeated gaffes by the president himself. The latest mis-spoke, now being framed by Trump’s press secretary as sarcasm, involved a presidential suggestion that one might consider injecting or imbibing disinfectant to treat the disease, either of which could easily prove lethal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What we appear to be seeing here, is an out-of-control President, who somehow has never, either in his private life, or his extraordinarily disappointing and thoroughly vilifiable public life, been told that when you screw up, particularly in his role as "Leader of the Free World", one takes responsibility for one's screw ups, listens to true wisdom as to how to fix them, and does the work to do so.

Not this President; he is ready to blame; vilify; sanction; and literally threaten multiple wars across multiple parts of the earth, in order to make it appear that he has utterly no responsibility for the state of the world today, in terms of health, from the global pandemic, and how it has affected the US; geopolitics; or the economy, which has just fallen into the proverbial, undrainable gutter, and may not get up again for a very long, long, time.

I don't know about you, folks, but I cringe at our options this November; on one hand, we have a mentally enfeebled, potential serial sexual predator, who may well, if he wins the election, have to be replaced by his running mate and Vice President shortly after the election, by the invocation of the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution, or... the man currently residing in the oval office, who is pathologically incapable of taking personal, or professional responsibility over the intense, foul harm his presidency has caused this country... and the world.

China's 'Belt And Road' Partners Beg Beijing For Bilateral Bailouts

China's cash-strapped partners in their "Belt and Road" (BRI) global development project have been begging Beijing for debt relief amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Financial Times.

And according to Chinese policy advisers, the Xi regime is considering several options - including suspending interest payments on loans from the country's financial institutions. That said, outright debt forgiveness is unlikely.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Chinese firms handling China's loans will ultimately overcome this issue; but rather than a small "bump in the road" for BRI, it may prove to be more of a giant pothole for China's aspirations.

Yuan Crashes After Trump Weighs Blocking Retirement Fund Access To Chinese Stocks As War Of Words Escalates

Having tumbled yesterday on the first set of headlines reporting on the Trump administration's plans to seek 'COVID reparations' amid accusations of Chinese 'meddling' in the US election (obviously not in favor of Trump), the Chinese yuan legged dramatically lower in this evening's illiquid session which sees most of Asia closed for May Day, after Bloomberg reports that Trump is exploring blocking a government retirement fund from investing in Chinese equities considered a national security risk.

And tonight, Bloomberg reports that, after months of pressure from concerned lawmakers, according to a person familiar with the internal deliberations, the Trump admin is planning an executive order to block a 2017 decision that The Thrift Savings Plan, the federal government’s retirement savings fund, would transfer a massive $50 billion to an international fund which would mirror the MSCI All-Country World Index.

Trump claims China will 'do anything' to stop his re-election as coronavirus row escalates

Donald Trump has claimed that China’s handling of the coronavirus is proof that Beijing “will do anything they can” to make him lose his re-election bid in November.

In an interview with Reuters, the US president said he was looking at different options in terms of consequences for Beijing over the virus. “I can do a lot,” he said, without going into detail.

Trump Says 'COVID Reparations' Coming: US Will Bill China At Least $160 Billion

At a moment total US COVID-19 cases fast approaches one million, President Trump has again lashed out at China but this time with a very specific threat to bill the county of the devastating coronvirus' origin more that $160 billion for the 'substantial' amount for damages caused by the pandemic.

Trump made the comments from the Rose Garden at the White House Monday after he was pressed by a reporter over a German newspaper report suggesting that China should be issued a $160 billion invoice for the impact on Europe's economy.

The president responded he had a "much easier" idea: "We have ways of doing things a lot easier than that," Trump told the coronavirus press briefing. "Germany’s looking at things, and we’re looking at things, and we’re talking about a lot more money than Germany’s talking about."

Up for a New Cold War -- With China?

Is America, in lockdown, with 26 million unemployed and entering a new depression, up for a confrontation and Cold War with China?

For that appears to be where the GOP wishes to lead us.

According to Politico, a 57-page memo from Mitch McConnell’s senatorial committee instructs GOP candidates to blame the coronavirus pandemic on China, commit to stand up to China, end U.S. dependence on Chinese manufacturing and tell voters “my opponent is soft on China.”

“China is not an ally, and they’re not just a rival — they are an adversary and the Chinese Communist Party is our enemy,” reads one of the talking points.

Fed Up With FONOPS: China ‘Expels’ US Warship From South China Sea, Urges Focus on COVID-19

In an echo of rhetoric deployed against Beijing for months, Chinese warships drove a US Navy destroyer out of contested waters, urging Washington to focus on combating the COVID-19 outbreak that has killed more than 50,000 Americans.

Tables Turned

On Tuesday, the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) “expelled a US warship that trespassed into Chinese territorial waters off the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea as the US' move could have easily caused an accident,” as the Global Times put it.

Russia & US are rushing into new arms race as they run out of time for realistic arms-control deal

The New START Treaty is set to expire in February 2021. The US insists that China be brought into any new agreement; Russia insists that any new talks include NATO nukes. The likely result is no deal and a dangerous new arms race.

The last remaining vestige of Cold War-era arms control agreements between the US and Russia — the New START Treaty — will expire in February 2021. For its part, Russia has been seeking US concurrence in invoking a provision of the treaty which allows for an automatic five-year extension of the agreement without the need to seek any further legislative ratification. The US has balked, indicating that the Obama-era treaty, dating back to 2010, does not include China, and as such places the US at a strategic disadvantage (the US used similar logic to justify its withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces — or INF — Treaty.)

Coronavirus COVID-19: US doing very serious investigation against China, says Donald Trump

The United States is doing a "very serious" investigation against China, President Donald Trump said, indicating his administration is looking at a lot more money as compensation from Beijing than euro 130 billion being sought by Germany.
Germany is looking at things and we're looking at things and we're talking about a lot more money than Germany is talking about,? Trump told reporters at his White House news conference Monday.
