E&C COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES HEARING ON TRADITIONAL MEDIA’S ROLE IN PROMOTING DISINFORMATION AND EXTREMISM

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Mike Doyle (D-PA) announced today that the Communications and Technology Subcommittee will hold a fully remote hearing on Wednesday, February 24, at 12:30 p.m. (EST) entitled “Fanning the Flames: Disinformation and Extremism in the Media.”

“The prolonged severity of the COVID-19 pandemic and the attack on our Capitol on January 6 have driven home a frightening reality: the spread of disinformation and extremism by traditional news media presents a tangible and destabilizing threat,” said Pallone and Doyle. “Some broadcasters’ and cable networks’ increasing reliance on conspiracy theories and misleading or patently false information raises questions about their devotion to journalistic integrity. We look forward to hearing from media experts about what is being done and what more can be done to address this growing problem moving forward.”

Microsoft forms coalition to censor “disinformation” online

Together with a few other tech and media corporations, Microsoft has formed a coalition focused on fighting “disinformation” and fake news. The other founding members of the coalition are Truepic, Intel, BBC, Adobe, and Arm.

Disinformation and fake news have become prevalent buzzwords to create a justification to censor in this digital age. It’s now very easy for people to formulate and spread falsehoods, according to the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity.

Is the "Variant" Being Used to Scare People Into Getting Vaccinated??

In a recent front-page article, the New York Times reported that the new mutated version of the Coronavirus was likely to be more contagious or lethal than the original infection. According to the Times, this new iteration of the infection could resist conventional treatments and force lockdown nations to extend the timeline for lifting restrictions. But given that “daily Covid infections have declined by 77 percent since January” and the virus appears to be ‘on its way out’, the report in the Times seems particularly suspicious. Is this new mutation, called the “variant”, really as deadly as it’s cracked up to be or is the media conjuring up another Covid hobgoblin to scare the public into getting vaccinated? Check out this excerpt from the article:

Capitol Riots Were A Dark Day For American Journalism

The invasion of the Capitol on 6 January now stands alongside 9/11 as an act of war against American democracy. Unsurprisingly, news coverage of the incursion has come to resemble war propaganda. All facts, true or false, are pointed in the same direction with the aim of demonising the enemy and anybody who minimises its demonic nature.

The three-hour takeover of the Capitol building by a pro-Trump mob is portrayed as a “coup” or an “insurrection” egged on by President Trump. The five who died during the events are seen as evidence of a violent, pre-planned plot to overturn the result of the US presidential election. Film spliced together and shown by prosecutors during the impeachment proceedings gives the impression that what happened resembled a battle scene in Braveheart.

Does it matter what really did occur?

Al Jazeera launching digital platform to provide outlet for US conservatives

The Al Jazeera news network is launching a new digital platform to target conservative audiences in the US, the network confirmed on Tuesday.

The new effort, called Rightly, aims to reach Republicans in the centre-right who are "currently underrepresented in today’s media environment", the network said in a statement sent to Middle East Eye.

"Al Jazeera is excited to expand its digital footprint with Rightly to provide fresh voices that are too often left out of the mainstream media a space to engage and debate the issues that matter most to them," said Michael Weaver, senior vice president of business development and growth at Al Jazeera media network's digital division.

Amazon, Netflix, Twitter, school library resource EBSCO named on ‘dirty dozen’ list of companies aiding sexual exploitation

The National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) has revealed that Amazon, Chromebook, Discord, OnlyFans, and Wish are among its 2021 Dirty Dozen List of mainstream contributors to sexual exploitation. This year’s list features several entities that have profited from the COVID-19 crisis by taking advantage of worsening social and economic vulnerabilities and harnessing the dramatic increase in online activity.

The Dirty Dozen List is an annual campaign highlighting 12 mainstream entities for facilitating, normalizing, and even profiting from sexual abuse and exploitation. Since 2013, the Dirty Dozen List has led to major victories in stemming sexual exploitation: catalyzing significant improvements at Google, Netflix,?TikTok, Hilton Worldwide, Verizon, Walmart, the U.S. Department of Defense, and many more mainstream players.

Twitter removes 100 accounts allegedly associated with Russia, aimed against US, EU, NATO

Social network Twitter removed 100 accounts allegedly associated with Russia, the company announced on Tuesday.

"Today we’re disclosing two separate networks that have Russian ties. Our first investigation found and removed a network of 69 fake accounts that can be reliably tied to Russian state actors. A number of these accounts amplified narratives that were aligned with the Russian government, while another subset of the network focused on undermining faith in the NATO alliance and its stability. As part of our second investigation in this region, we removed 31 accounts from two networks that show signs of being affiliated with the Internet Research Agency (IRA) and Russian government-linked actors. These accounts amplified narratives that had been previously associated with the IRA and other Russian influence efforts targeting the United States and European Union," Twitter said.

Gab BANNED from Three Banks in Three Weeks Due to Media Smears

Free speech social media platform Gab has been banned from three different banks in three weeks, following repeated smears from the mainstream media.
Speaking exclusively to National File, Andrew Torba, the CEO of Gab, said that the New Tech platform was banned from three different banks in the last three weeks alone for political reasons. One of the banks told Torba on Monday morning that they could no longer do business with the site because of “all the bad things the press has written about Gab.”

Following the removal of President Trump from most Big Tech platforms in the last few weeks of his presidency, New Tech social media sites like Gab skyrocketed in traffic, as millions of users flocked away from the censorship of Facebook, Twitter, and others. Gab received 272 million visits in January, outperforming legacy media competition such as NBC News, The Wall Street Journal, Breitbart, and TMZ, by a huge margin.

Facebook Restores News Sharing As Australia Caves To Big Tech

In an epic battle of wills between American Big Tech firms (Facebook and Google) and the Australian government, it looks like the Australian government is coming out on top. After Facebook blocked sharing of Australian media content last week in response to a bill that would have made Big Tech liable for paying producers - aka media companies - for content they produced, it looks like lawmakers have caved, and made several amendments to strip out the offending bits. And now, Facebook is planning to lift the block "in the coming days."

Facebook and Aussie lawmakers have struck a deal to add several amendments that would nullify bits of the proposed Australian law that would have made Big Tech firms - specifically Google and Facebook - responsible for payouts to local media companies, as the FT reports.

Senator Blumenthal demands Facebook and Twitter curb vaccine-skeptic conversations

Connecticut’s Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat, is calling on Facebook and Twitter to act on vaccine skeptic conversations, particularly around pregnant women.

Sen. Blumenthal penned a letter to both Facebook and Twitter.

“Time and again, Facebook and its peers have moved far too slow in responding to the targeted harassment and promotion of destructive conspiracy theories against women and people of color.

“These mothers, through raising awareness to the vaccine and setting an example for the community, are doing an immense public service and lovingly protecting their infants. They are also acting responsibly,” Blumenthal wrote in the letter to Facebook.

‘Extremists’ – or is that conservatives? – are cognitively deficient: Guardian pumps up pseudoscientific assault on wrongthinkers

Using ‘conservative’ to overlap with ‘extremist,’ Cambridge University scientists claim they’ve found this elusive category of people to be cognitively deficient. The Guardian took these tentative conclusions and ran with them.
Donald Trump may be gone, but his supporters are still hanging around, gumming up the works and interfering with returning both halves of the American uni-party system to their proper anti-populist, war-loving baseline. This means playing whack-a-mole with the “wrongthinkers” on the Right, whether it’s knocking them off social media, smearing them as racists, ‘extremists,’ and xenophobes (oh my!), or just lobbing playground-level insults their way.

The Guardian seems to have embraced its role performing the latter, delivering a writeup of a Cambridge University study that takes the researchers’ already shaky conclusions and reduces them to the equivalent of ‘conservatives are big dum-dum poopy-heads.’

ADL Data Shows 2020 Had Lowest Number Of Domestic Extremist-Related Killings In Over A Decade

Though the Anti-Defamation League together with Democrats and the media have been busy hyperventilating over so-called "white supremacy" and demanding new domestic terrorism legislation, the ADL's own data shows 2020 had the least number of "domestic extremist-related killings" in at least 12 years.

When 60 Minutes’ Hysteria Nearly Shot Down a NASA Mission to Saturn

In 1997, while waiting at Cape Canaveral for liftoff, the Cassini mission was beset suddenly by political protest. Cassini carried three radioisotope thermoelectric generators, which were powered by the decay of plutonium 238. The plutonium wasn’t of the Back to the Future variety—a disquieting drop of Scary Substance Indeed into a homemade flux capacitor—but rather was stored in a ceramic form, wrapped in iridium, and caked in graphite. It could not corrode, or be obliterated by heat, or vaporize, or disintegrate as an aerosol, or dissolve in water. It was made to withstand not only the explosion of the rocket carrying it, but even a catastrophic reentry into Earth’s atmosphere. Because it couldn’t vaporize, in a disaster situation, no one would inadvertently breathe it in and develop superpowers or extra appendages. In fact, it was designed so that you could even eat the stuff. The human body could not absorb it.

Biden Launches Campaign to Silence Critics of Killer Vaccine

Imagine if an ordinary working man went on a rampage and killed 929 people and maimed 316 others. The media would naturally call such a man a serial killer or a homicidal maniac. Now imagine if a big pharmaceutical company did the same thing by releasing a vaccine that killed and maimed a similar number people. Would the drug company be treated the same as the working guy? Would their product be denounced as a “killer vaccine” and shunned by the public, or would they be praised on the cable news channels, provided lavish funding by the government, granted full immunity from liability for personal injury, waved through the regulatory process, and had the red carpet rolled out for their spectacular nationwide “Product Launch” extravaganza?

Canada To Follow Australia's Lead In Charging Facebook For Links

After blocking links to all news content in Australia, Facebook has reportedly “friended” the country again by coming back to the negotiating table, at least according to Prime Minister Scott Morrison. That doesn’t mean that Mark Zuckerberg has dropped his objections to Austrailia’s pending legislation that would force the social media giant to pay for links to Australian news content, however. Neither side seems to be backing down at this point.

Australia may not be in this battle alone, though.

We’re learning this weekend that Canada is drafting a similar measure and basically daring Facebook to impose a blackout on them as well. (NY Post)

Canada is poised to take on Facebook, following the example set by Australia, which began a war with the tech giant when the country’s publishers backed proposed legislation demanding payment for their content.

Where Will Rush Limbaugh’s 15 Million Listeners Go Now?

So who now takes the place of Rush Limbaugh as the media ringmaster of the right?

The answer, most likely, is nobody.

That is not because Mr. Limbaugh, who died on Wednesday at 70, was uniquely talented among conservative broadcasters, although his popularity and influence on American politics surely rank him in the highest tier.

Mr. Limbaugh almost single-handedly created a right-wing mass-media universe — with its kneejerk hatred of Democrats, mocking nicknames and own-the-libs glee — that allowed him to imprint his grievances and goals on the national debate. About 15 million people a week tuned in for his daily three-hour program.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Those 15 million listeners are always welcome at Republic Broadcasting!!!

The Mainstream Media Has Been Lying About The Capitol Protests (OBVIOUSLY)

The only reason this story has and continues to be grossly exaggerated by the press and by Democrats (but we repeat ourselves) is to sow fear in the public, portray conservatives as violent extremists, and justify more ferocious attacks on anyone who isn’t a left-wing Democrat. -- Which is why the media will never come clean about their role in misleading the public. And why Pelosi’s “truth” commission can be counted on not to tell the truth about any of it.

‘Corporate titans acting as sovereign bullies’: Australia plans publicity campaign for Covid-19 jab rollout, but not on Facebook

Australia’s mass vaccination drive is set to get a publicity campaign, the country’s health minister has said. There will be no advertising on Facebook, however, as the government remains locked in a bitter row with the platform.

As Australia launched its mass vaccination using the Pfizer jab on Sunday, Health Minister Greg Hunt promised a wide-ranging communication campaign to promote inoculation. The publicity drive will take place both offline and online – but nothing will be posted to Facebook, Hunt told national broadcaster ABC.

NYTimes warns readers against critical thinking lest they realize the ‘paper of record’ is feeding them lies

Critical thinking is dangerous, according to a Times editorial urging readers to vet sources with Wikipedia lest they fall into traps set by evil conspiracy theorists and be tricked into questioning the paper’s iron-clad truths.

Charlie Warzel, a Times columnist who styles himself an expert in “online radicalization,” has implored his readers not to “go down the rabbit hole,” in a Thursday op-ed luridly depicting the dangers of evaluating new information, questing out into the internet armed with nothing but one’s own mind. Thinking critically can lead to giving away one’s precious attention to dastardly conspiracy theorists whose only apparent goal is to dupe you, he warns, as opposed to the friendly narrative managers at the New York Times, who just want to make sure your brain is quivering with the required fear quota - of viruses, Russians, your neighbors, terrorists, white people or, now, the capacity for believing wrongthink lurking within your own brain.

TOM TUGENDHAT: We are at a pivotal moment in history and the world must defeat Facebook's bullying

How do you 'unfriend' a whole country? The giant Facebook conglomerate has found the answer.

Never mind that Australia is a key Western ally with a democratically elected government.

Facebook has simply turned its face against the Australian public and is censoring what they can see in a dispute over who pays for news.

No doubt the stakes are high for the social media site's chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg. Millions of dollars would be at risk if Facebook had to compensate media companies for the news stories it lifts and reproduces.

But it is no exaggeration to say that for the rest of us, the stakes are higher still.

What we are witnessing is nothing less than a battle for the future of our democracies. So it is vital that we join the fight to protect our freedoms.

At the heart of all this is people's access to information – something that dates back even further than Gutenberg's invention of a revolutionary method of printing.

Newsweek 'Fact Check' Claims India Vaccine Ban "Mostly False" While Admitting De Facto Ban

Newsweek published a “fact check” which labeled claims that India had banned the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as “mostly false” despite admitting in the article that India has in fact temporarily banned the vaccine.

Last week, discussion around the issue intensified after it was revealed that Indian health authorities had refused to give permission for the vaccine to be distributed.

“On February 3, 2021, India’s Subject Expert Committee (SEC), a panel that advises the nation’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), a national regulatory body focused on pharmaceuticals and devices, ruled that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine should not be recommended for an EUA in the country “at this stage,” reports Newsweek.

Biden Admin "Working Directly" With Big Tech To Crush Vaccine Dissent

"In a corporatist system of government, wherein there is no meaningful separation between corporate power and state power, corporate censorship is state censorship."

Those were the prophetic words of Caitlin Johnstone in 2018 warning of the slippery slope that Big Tech and its liberal minions were embarking on as the corporate-sponsored cancel-culture began.

In 2018, representatives of Facebook, Twitter, and Google were instructed on the US Senate floor that it is their responsibility to “quell information rebellions” and adopt a “mission statement” expressing their commitment to “prevent the fomenting of discord.”

“Civil wars don’t start with gunshots, they start with words,” the representatives were told.

“America’s war with itself has already begun. We all must act now on the social media battlefield to quell information rebellions that can quickly lead to violent confrontations and easily transform us into the Divided States of America.”

Techno-Censorship: The Slippery Slope From Censoring "Disinformation" To Silencing Truth

In a world increasingly automated and filtered through the lens of artificial intelligence, we are finding ourselves at the mercy of inflexible algorithms that dictate the boundaries of our liberties.

Once artificial intelligence becomes a fully integrated part of the government bureaucracy, there will be little recourse: we will be subject to the intransigent judgments of techno-rulers.

This is how it starts.

Martin Niemöller’s warning about the widening net that ensnares us all still applies.

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Since its inception 14 years ago, Politico has risen to become an internet news giant. Key to this is its range of influential newsletters, which reach millions every day.

A Question For Leftists: Why Are All The Evil People On Your Side?

The media these days is saturated with tales of “evil conservatives” and our heinous plans for world domination through “insurrection”. In fact, most mainstream articles that cover recent events including the election and the protests at the capitol make a point to always mention “white supremacy” and “terrorism” in the same breath as the word “conservative”. This is an entirely deliberate propaganda tactic called “word association” or “word redefinition”; change the subtext of a word or group label in the minds of the masses and you can often change perception from positive to negative.

Breda O’Brien: Time to question our tech billionaire overlords

Out walking before it was quite dark enough to draw the curtains, I was struck by how many solitary figures were slumped at windows of bedrooms and kitchens. None was looking at the red-gold sky. Instead, they were staring at laptops and no doubt, like me, they had spent most of the day doing just that.

A cultural change with immense implications is already under way, and only being hastened by Covid-19. It is not just about remote working. It is about the huge disparity between the power and influence of tech companies and what we still think of as governments.

As Jennifer O’Connell pointed out recently, the giant tech companies and their founders have had a very good pandemic. Citing Oxfam research, she highlighted that the world’s 10 richest people, including Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, witnessed their wealth grow collectively by €451 billion during the pandemic.

Facebook Goes Nuclear On Australia - Blocks All News Sharing Across Continent

After Australia's government this week announced its intent to issue legislative changes known as the "News Media Bargaining Code" by the end of this month, Facebook in retaliation has said it will begin restricting news sharing on its platform in Australia.

It comes a day after the current session of parliament vowed to implement the law by the session's close, which ends on Feb. 25. The code seeks to force major US-based internet companies to fairly pay local Australian publishers for use of their content. Last month Google threatened to remove its search engine from Australia altogether over the legislation, with Facebook backing Google's pressure campaign.

Mercola: The Web Of Censors Behind The Censors

Any strategy that successfully manipulates public opinion is bound to be repeated, and we can now clearly see how the tobacco industry’s playbook is being used to shape the public narrative about COVID-19 and the projected post-COVID era.

In 2011, after many years of raising awareness regarding genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and industrial agriculture, we decided we needed a new game plan. Educating people through our newsletter was great, but we realized the best way to expose Monsanto — a leading GMO advocate and patented seed owner at the time — was to get them to engage directly and ensure national attention.

To that end, Mercola.com funded the signature gathering in California that initiated Proposition 37, the right to know what’s in your food by ensuring proper GMO labeling. We spent more than $1 million for the Prop 37 initiative, plus several million dollars more for GMO labeling initiatives in other U.S. states in the following years.

Rush Limbaugh, conservative talk radio pioneer, dead at 70

Rush Limbaugh, the monumentally influential media icon who transformed talk radio and politics in his decades behind the microphone, helping shape the modern-day Republican Party, died Wednesday morning at the age of 70 after a battle with lung cancer, his family announced.

Limbaugh's wife, Kathryn, made the announcement on his radio show. "Losing a loved one is terribly difficult, even more so when that loved one is larger than life," she said. "Rush will forever be the greatest of all time."

The radio icon learned he had Stage IV lung cancer in January 2020 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by then-President Trump at the State of the Union address days later. First lady Melania Trump then presented America’s highest civilian honor to Limbaugh in an emotional moment on the heels of his devastating cancer diagnosis.

"Rush Limbaugh: Thank you for your decades of tireless devotion to our country," President Trump said during the address.

TIME MAGAZINE EXPOSÉ ADMITS “CONSPIRACY” TO STEAL ELECTION, ACTIVISTS TOLD TO “STAND DOWN”

In a recent exposé, TIME Magazine admitted that the 2020 election was rigged to favor Joe Biden, while attempting to justify it.

“They were not rigging the election; they were fortifying it,” says reporter Molly Ball. “It’s massively important for the country to understand that it didn’t happen accidentally.”

Ball said what half the country already knew: that “powerful people, ranging across industries and ideologies, working together behind the scenes to influence perceptions, change rules and laws, steer media coverage and control the flow of information.” She refers to this as what “sounds like a paranoid fever-dream,” but one which accurately describes the situation.

In the article, Ball describes activist groups, corporate CEO’s, disaffected Republicans, and Big Tech “philanthropy” teaming up to unseat the former president. “In a way, Trump was right,” she admits. “There was a conspiracy unfolding behind the scenes.”

Telegram is now censoring and is clearly compromised…

Well, up until today I had a Telegram account. Here’s why I’ve very quickly and anxiously deleted my account and uninstalled the app…

So I’ve been hearing rumours from all sorts of sources that Telegram has already been compromised. That the anti censorship stance they take is a smokescreen, and that the establishment have already infiltrated it. Today, I found out first hand that’s the case.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Of course, this could be a propaganda campaign to undermine Telegram.

Fake Amazon Reviews Are Being Sold ‘in Bulk’

Fake reviews for products on Amazon are being sold “in bulk” online in what has become a “widespread fake reviews industry.”

The consumer group Which? has discovered at least ten websites that are selling fake reviews online in exchange for £5 each, as well as in exchange for free or discounted products, according to a report by BBC News.

There are also “packages” of fake reviews available for merchants to buy for about £15 individually, as well as bulk packages starting at £620 for 50 reviews, and £8,000 for 1,000 reviews.

Which? also suggested that five of the businesses selling fake reviews had more than 702,000 so-called “product reviewers” on their books. These product reviewers can even take part in “loyalty schemes,” earning themselves premium goods.

Take 2: Facebook once again shuts down Israeli anti-immunity passport group accused of sabotaging national vaccination

A Facebook group with thousands of members, which opposes Israel’s vaccination deployment and has devised strategies for sabotaging it, has been shut down by the tech giant for the second time in as many weeks.

The group is one of many in Israel that stands accused of spreading misinformation about vaccines against Covid-19 and causing a slowdown in the pace of immunization in the country.

Israel has vaccinated some 43 percent of its population with at least one shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, but some officials have complained about growing refusal from the remaining part of the society to take the shot.

During his Fox News show on Monday, Mr Carlson attempted to blame renewable energy sources, including wind turbines, for the power outages affecting Texas along with several other southern states.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You mean Tucker blamed the windmills ... that froze solid, and the solar panels ... that were covered in snow? How DARE he!!!!

Trump critics rage against ‘American Idol’ for ‘rehabbing’ Kellyanne Conway after her daughter auditions

Former White House official Kellyanne Conway appeared on ‘American Idol’ to support her 16-year-old daughter Claudia, but the moment is being slammed for giving a positive image to the Trump ally.

Claudia Conway was accompanied during her audition for ‘Idol’ by her father, vocal Trump critic George Conway, but her mother appeared via video chat before and after to show support for her.

“Remember, honey. Winners are people who are willing to lose,” she said at one point to Claudia, who made it to the next round of auditions after performing both Rihanna’s ‘Love on the Brain’ and Adele’s ‘When We Were Young’.

Has The 'Hard Hitting' CNN Anchor Chris Cuomo Ever Mentioned The Scandal Brother Andrew Is In?

CNN’s Chris Cuomo is remaining silent on the nursing home scandal surrounding his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Since the scandal first broke last week, Cuomo has neither mentioned it on his show nor has he tweeted about it – devoting tweets and airtime instead to the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump.

The governor received glowing praise from CNN and MSNBC early on for his handling of the pandemic while they seemingly ignored his directive for nursing homes to accept patients who had, or were suspected of having COVID-19.

Opening the CIA’s Can of Worms

“The CIA and the media are part of the same criminal conspiracy,” : This is true. The corporate mainstream media are stenographers for the national security state’s ongoing psychological operations aimed at the American people, just as they have done the same for an international audience. We have long been subjected to this “information warfare,” whose purpose is to win the hearts and minds of the American people and pacify them into victims of their own complicity, just as it was practiced long ago by the CIA in Vietnam and by The New York Times, CBS, etc. on the American people then and over the years as the American warfare state waged endless wars, coups, false flag operations, and assassinations at home and abroad. -- Another way of putting this is to say for all practical purposes when it comes to matters that bear on important foreign and domestic matters, the CIA and the corporate mainstream media cannot be distinguished.

Conversation of the year? Tesla founder Elon Musk asks famously internet-averse Vladimir Putin to join him for ‘Clubhouse’ chat

Elon Musk has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin if he would be interested in chatting with him on the audio-only social media platform Clubhouse, sparking excitement and speculation about the pair’s potential discussion.

On Saturday, the Tesla CEO and world’s current richest man tweeted at the official Twitter handle of the president of Russia, asking, “Would you like to join me for a conversation on Clubhouse?”

Flexing his linguistic skills, Musk added in Russian: “It would be a great honor to speak with you.” However, he didn’t specify which language would be used for the proposed chat. As well as his native tongue, Putin speaks fluent German and reasonably good English.

Facebook’s incompetent censorship

What do you do when your sources of information get corrupted? That is one of today’s great questions, as UnHerd discovered this week. On Wednesday, Facebook censored an article on these pages which was critical of the World Health Organisation, labelling it as “misinformation”. It was not UnHerd’s first run-in with the online censors, but it is perhaps the most baffling.

In the article in question, Ian Birrell suggested that there are very many reasons to be suspicious of the WHO’s recent report into the origins of the coronavirus. Its investigations were brief, its research was flimsy and the composition of its team was questionable. But most glaring of all was surely its attempt to exclude from consideration anything which might be inconvenient for the Chinese Communist Party. It concluded, for example, that there was no evidence that the virus had come either from the Wuhan wet market, or from the government-run laboratory in the area.

‘NY Times’ and ‘Washington Post’ have still said nothing about B’Tselem’s finding a month ago that Israel is an ‘apartheid regime’

One month after one of Israel’s leading human rights organizations declared that the country is ruled by an “apartheid” state, liberal Zionists in the U.S. are breathing more easily. The New York Times and the Washington Post have still published nothing on the landmark finding by the human rights group B’Tselem, nor have any of their editorial writers or main columnists chimed in.

Liberal Zionists can relax. With the apartheid designation still a secret to most Americans, groups like J Street don’t have to explain why they still oppose the nonviolent global campaign for Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS).

Trump Lawyer Rage-Quits "Slanted" CBS Interview: "You [Media] Are Bloodthirsty For Ratings... Trying To Divide America"

One of former President Donald Trump’s impeachment lawyers blasted the mainstream media companies of trying to push a narrative instead of reporting on facts, saying news outlets are “trying to divide this country.”

“What this country wants and this country needs is this country to come together,” Michael T. van der Veen said, adding that the reason why there is so much divisiveness is “because of the media.”

“Because the media wants to tell their narrative rather than just telling it like it is,” he said, adding that corporate media outlets have “to start telling the right story in this country” and that “media is trying to divide this country” to make a profit.

“You are bloodthirsty for ratings. You’re asking questions that are already set up with a fact-pattern,” van der Veen said.

TAIBBI: THE BOMBHOLE ERA

A UTOPIA OF DIVISION

News in the Trump years became a narrative drama, with each day advancing a tale of worsening political emergency, driven by subplots involving familiar casts of characters, in the manner of episodic television. It worked, but news directors and editors hit a stumbling block. If you cover everything like there’s no tomorrow, what happens when there is, in fact, a tomorrow?

The innovation was to use banner headlines to saturate news cycles, often to the exclusion of nearly any other news, before moving to the next controversy so quickly that mistakes, errors, or rhetorical letdowns were memory-holed.

The American Napoleon generated controversies at such a fantastic rate that stations like CNN and MSNBC (and Fox too) were able to keep ratings high by moving from mania to mania, hyping stories on the way up but not always following them down. The moment the narrative premise of any bombshell started to fray, the next story in line was bumped to the front.
