Hurricane Season and the BP Oil Rig Disaster

Why does this matter? Because any attempt to use booms or chemicals keep the oil away from the Gulf Coast would be completely impossible in the event of a major storm entering the Gulf. The combination of high winds, storm surges and high waves would push the oil slick way inland up the bayous and onto the shelter islands that protect 40 percent of America’s wetlands. (Even a moderate wind and a chop on the water near shore was defeating the booms put in place on Friday, and rendering any attempt to burn off the oil impossible.)

Times Square bomb: terrorism or PR?

Some details are immediately suspect. Why would the terrorists use a false license plate instead of renting a legitimate car? How did they get hold of a license plate which the owner had sent for scrapping? Why use an SUV instead of a roomy mini-van – a standard car for bombings, and less conspicuous for parking? Not the least, technical failures are extremely uncommon in car bombs which are carefully assembled in suitable conditions.

BP using toxic chemicals to ‘disperse’ spilled oil

Even if the materials, called dispersants, are effective, BP has already bought up more than a third of the world’s supply. If the leak from 5,000 feet beneath the surface continues for weeks, or months, that stockpile could run out.

On Thursday BP began using the chemical compounds to dissolve the crude oil, both on the surface and deep below, deploying an estimated 100,000 gallons. Dispersing the oil is considered one of the best ways to protect birds and keep the slick from making landfall. But the dispersants contain harmful toxins of their own and can concentrate leftover oil toxins in the water, where they can kill fish and migrate great distances.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I just found an article on line regarding biomediation of oil slicks published in English by the Indian Coast Guard, written by one Dr. Pradeep Kumar, located at:

http://www.indiancoastguard.nic.in/indiancoastguard/NOSDCP/NOSDCP%202006/Bio_remed_Oil_spills.pdf

If India understands the critical importance of using bioremediation for oil spills, why doesn't BP and the US government?!?

That is more than a little scary, in terms of the long-term potential toxic effects of these dispersants.

BP documents show it did not plan for oil spill disaster at Gulf Coast rig

BP is facing a £3billion fine for the oil spill on America’s Gulf Coast which is threatening to become the worst ecological disaster in history - and is now under fire for not foreseeing the catastrophe.

Documents emerged yesterday showing BP had previously downplayed the possibility of a catastrophic accident at the rig.

It suggested in a 2009 exploration plan and environmental impact analysis for the well that an accident leading to a giant oil spill – and damage to beaches, fish and animals – was unlikely or virtually impossible.

Louisiana oil spill may be five times bigger than previously thought

The view from space indicates that the oil may be leaking at a rate of 25,000 barrels a day, dwarfing the figure of 5,000 barrels that US officials and the British oil giant BP have used in recent days.

That would mean that some nine million gallons may already have escaped from the underwater well following the April 20 explosion that killed 11 rig workers. It suggests the disaster will almost certainly prove greater than the Exxon Valdez tanker spill off Alaska in 1989, which released 11 million gallons and was the worst previous spill at sea.

Maidhc Ó Cathail views the evidence indicating that dual loyalty officials in the US administration are funnelling American nuclear secrets not only to Israel, but also to terrorist organizations in order to facilitate a “nuclear 9/11” and a massive US attack against Iran or Pakistan.

”If, as Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu admitted, 9/11 was ‘very good’ for Israel, a nuclear 9/11 might be even better. As the spellbinding effects of that traumatic event nine years ago have begun to wear off, and with Americans increasingly questioning the costs of a one-sided alliance [with Israel], it may even be considered necessary.”

Drilling Process Attracts Scrutiny in Rig Explosion

The scrutiny on cementing will focus attention on Halliburton Co., the oilfield-services firm that was handling the cementing process on the rig, which burned and sank last week. The disaster, which killed 11, has left a gusher of oil streaming into the Gulf from a mile under the surface.

According to Transocean Ltd., the operator of the drilling rig, Halliburton had finished cementing the 18,000-foot well shortly before the explosion. Houston-based Halliburton is the largest company in the global cementing business, which accounted for $1.7 billion, or about 11%, of the company's revenue in 2009, according to consultant Spears & Associates.

Honda recalls 167,000 Acura TSX for possible fire hazard

Honda Motor Company's luxury vehicle division Acura announced Friday a recall of some 167,000 Acura TSX models to replace a power steering hose that could lead to a "smoke or a fire" hazard.

"Affected TSX vehicles are 2004-2008 models sold in the United States with the 2.4L inline 4-cylinder engine," a company statement said, adding that the repair "involves installing a new power steering hose, o-ring gasket and fluid."

Honda said the hose has a potential "for premature deterioration... as a result of prolonged exposure to high under-hood temperatures" and could develop cracks allowing power steering fluid to leak on the hot exhaust system "potentially generating smoke or a fire."

The repair, it added, will be "all done at no cost to the vehicle owner."

Document: BP didn't plan for major oil spill; asserted adverse environmental impacts unlikely

British Petroleum downplayed the possibility of a catastrophic accident at an offshore oil rig that exploded and caused the worst U.S. spill in decades along the Gulf Coast.

In its 52-page exploration plan and environmental impact analysis for the well, BP repeatedly suggested it was unlikely, or virtually impossible, for an accident to occur that would lead to a giant crude oil spill and serious damage to beaches, fish, mammals and fisheries.

The U.S. Coast Guard estimates the mile-deep well is spewing 200,000 gallons per day.

Massive oil spill in Gulf of Mexico nears landfall

A massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico neared wildlife refuges and seafood grounds along the Louisiana coast on Friday, as efforts redoubled to avert what could become one of the worst U.S. ecological disasters.

President Barack Obama pledged on Thursday to "use every single available resource" to contain the oil slick and the U.S. military ratcheted up operations.

The leak from a ruptured oil well on the ocean floor off the coast of the southern state is pouring out crude oil at a rate of up to 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons or 955,000 liters) a day, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration -- five times more oil than previously thought.

Military may join fight to contain Gulf oil slick

BP Plc on Thursday welcomed an offer from the Defense Department to help contain a massive growing oil slick from a deadly rig explosion that threatens the shoreline of four Gulf states.

But they are struggling to control the slick from the leaking well 5,000 feet under the sea off Louisiana's coast, which the Coast Guard said late on Wednesday was spilling five times more oil than previously estimated.

"We're going to do everything we can to minimize the impact of this event," Suttles said. As owner of the well, BP is financially responsible for the cleanup.

Laura Bush: George and I May Have Been Poisoned in Germany

Former First Lady Laura Bush suggests in her new, soon-to-be-published memoir, 'Spoken from the Heart,' that she and President George W. Bush, as well as several members of their staff, may have been poisoned during a trip to Germany for a G8 Summit. A copy of the book scheduled for release in May was obtained by The New York Times.

"They all became mysteriously sick," reveals the NYT, "and the president was bedridden for part of the trip. The Secret Service investigated the possibility they were poisoned, she writes, but doctors could only conclude that they all contracted a virus. After noting several high-profile poisonings, she wrote, “we never learned if any other delegations became ill, or if ours, mysteriously, was the only one.”'

Poetic Justice in the Kingdom of the Blind.

When one looks at the Iraq and Afghanistan wars it is difficult (if not impossible) to see what the benefit has been. There hasn’t been any reduction in terrorism because all the main terror acts were carried out by government agency. Then there were the terror acts that were prevented in those carefully staged events that involved shoe and crotch bombers. The pipeline hasn’t been built in Afghanistan and doesn’t look like it will be. Other that the government sponsored looting of antiquities in Iraq, I can’t see any profit there either except... except for the profits that have been realized by international drug dealers, arms merchants and bankers so... it must be that these were the only reasons for the conflicts to begin with.

Israel’s big and small apartheids: the meaning of a Jewish state

Jonathan Cook analyses the pillars that prop up Israeli apartheid in pre- and post-1967 Palestine, from the unique and racist nature of Israeli citizenship law, to Jewish control of land, to defining Israeli Arabs as a security threat.

In a talk delivered to the fifth Bilin international conference for Palestinian popular resistance, held in the West Bank village of Bilin on 21 April, he argues that the fight against Israeli apartheid wherever it is found – in Jaffa or Jerusalem, in Nazareth or Nablus, in Beersheva or Bilin – is integral to the struggle for justice for the Palestinians.

Can the US beat Israel at their game?

Americans can now see the light at the end of a long dark tunnel—if only they will look.

We entered this tunnel in 1948 when an enclave of religious fanatics induced President Harry Truman to portray them as a “state” meriting recognition, aid and protection.

We were warned not to do so.

These extremists had just inflicted on the Palestinians an ethnic cleansing that rivaled in its savagery the fascist abuse of ethnic groups during WWII. In December 1948, Albert Einstein and 27 other concerned Jews urged us “not to support this latest manifestation of fascism.”

Our failure to heed that warning led to the current morass in which we find ourselves.

2 killed as tornado strikes Miss.; others injured

Tornadoes ripped through the Southeast on Saturday, killing two people in Mississippi and injuring more than a dozen others.

The swath of debris forced some of the injured to be picked up by all-terrain vehicles after a 3/4-mile wide tornado touched down in at least three counties in west-central Mississippi. Particularly hard hit was Yazoo City, where Mayor McArthur Straughter said the county coroner confirmed the two deaths.

Collapse of the Standard of Living in the USA

Released in March, before the passage of the Obama administration’s health care legislation, a survey entitled “Health Care Reform—Can’t Live With It, or Without It” indicates that 92 percent of Americans give the national economy a negative rating. No fewer than 70 percent of the respondents report having suffered job-related and financial problems in the past year, an increase from 59 percent the year before. Fifty-four percent report someone in their home has been without a job and looking for work in the past year, up from 39 percent in 2009.

Thai red-shirts offer conditional talks with government

Thailand's red-shirt protesters have issued a conditional offer of talks with the government, amid protests that have paralysed parts of Bangkok.

The red-shirts said that parliament had to be dissolved in one month - a change from their previous call for immediate dissolution and elections.

They also called for an investigation into recent violence and an end to harassment of protesters.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If the Thai government is smart, they will accept these offers for talks.

Obama Revives Rumsfeld’s Missile Scheme, Risks Nuke War

The Obama administration is poised to take up one of the more dangerous and hare-brained schemes of the Rumsfeld-era Pentagon. The New York Times is reporting that the Defense Department is once again looking to equip intercontinental ballistic missiles with conventional warheads. The missiles could then, in theory, destroy fleeing targets a half a world away — a no-notice “bolt from the blue,” striking in a matter of hours. There’s just one teeny-tiny problem: the launches could very well start World War III.

Strategies for Revolutionaries: Discriminating Among Values –

It seems to me as though a great many people claim that their time is valuable, but their behaviour speaks quite differently of their intentions. Rather than investing their time productively, for example, they’ll squander it away with long hours in front of the TV, playing video games, or engaged in some other similarly frivolous activity. Video games are perhaps the champions of this category – they’re a wonderful way of entering a fantasy world where you can feel like you’ve done something without actually doing anything. From the vantage of society’s controllers, having everyone locked into various masturbatory addictions is a wonderful means of insuring the perpetuation of established lines of power and privilege.

93 Year Old Grandma In The Aviation’s TSA Gulag.

You might assume we’ve reached the zenith of lunacy, heartlessness, and sheer evil. Alas, dear reader, you again underestimate aviation’s gulag. No situation is ever so destitute of humanity that cops can’t wring a few more barbarities from it.

Divisive Ariz. Immigration Bill Signed Into Law

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed into law the nation's toughest legislation against illegal immigration Friday, a sweeping measure that supporters said would take handcuffs off police but which President Obama said could violate people's civil rights.

Brewer, who faces a tough election battle and growing anger in the state over illegal immigrants, said the law "protects every Arizona citizen," and said the state must act because the federal government has failed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a reasonable law, and doesn't effect anyone living or working in the state of Arizona legally.

The reason the federal government has been unable to pass an immigration bill that makes sense is that congressional representatives have been made to understand that large companies love the cheap labor illegal immigration brings.

Unfortunately, these same large corporations don't give a flying Frisbee about of the impact on state budgets due to unfunded mandates, because "it's not their problem".

What we're seeing in Arizona may be a harbinger of the kind of legislation which may be passed in many other states.

Haiti: Stop sending food, healthcare to the destitute

Haiti: Stop sending us food, healthcare
Published: April 22, 2010
Another reason Haiti wants the aid to stop is because desperately poor residents not devastated by the earthquake have moved into refugee camps to receive the free food and healthcare, relief workers say.
A consequence of pulling back on aid is that relief food already in Haiti will be sent to warehouses for future disasters -- a practice the U.S. Agency for International Development calls "pre-positioning."

The Rothschild Cabal masters' disaster profits

The Goldsmiths—Part CXXXVIII
Friday, 23 April 2010
By R. D. Bradshaw
So the place we must come to is it possible that the Rothschild Cabal masters, using their puppets at DARA, are now in the process of taking over nature to bring on natural calamities to nations which do not toe the line as the masters in London demand? Could the Cabal masters be behind the troubles now in Iceland, Iran, Venezuela and China? Along with punishing Rothschild Cabal enemies, would such events also open the door for some huge profits for Cabal insiders? Thus, if an insider with the Cabal had advance knowledge of the coming Icelandic volcano eruptions and resulting ash, could he have sold airline stocks short and made a barrel of profits (as interestingly happened in the 9/11 thing some years ago)?

Thresholds of Wireless -

A great deal of ambiguity, conflict and promise surrounds humanity’s use of energy. Wars are fought over access to sources of energy, freedoms are repressed in order to maintain control over access to energy, and the planet is poisoned while we refuse to renegotiate our addiction to particular forms of energy. Even still, demand for energy is going to steadily increase and anyone who thinks humanity’s energy consumption is going to face a bottleneck – e.g., peak oil doomsayers – are victims of a lack of imagination. In spite of their naive alarmism, we don’t suffer from a lack of access to energy or have any difficulty in finding clean, non-polluting sources of energy. The gap isn’t in our understanding or in physical constraints; rather, it lies in our political and social momentum.

Mexican gov't slams Arizona immigration law

Mexico's Foreign Relations Department said in a statement relayed through Mexico's U.S. embassy that it viewed the measure with great concern and said it "could have potentially serious effects on the civil rights" of Mexican nationals.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The last part of that statement should have read "...it "could have potentially serious effects on the civil rights" of Mexican nationals working and living in Arizona illegally!"

The US border has, for too long, been the "safety valve" of a succession of Mexican governments which have proven themselves pathologically incapable of taking care of their own people, in terms of jobs and education.

This bill, and others like it which will likely be passed in other state legislatures, will send a very clear message to the Mexican government that this situation is no longer tolerable.
The states' unfunded mandates, in terms of housing, health care, education, and welfare, have become costs which US states can no longer bear.

Polanski set for extradition after Obama rejects plea from Sarkozy that he be spared

Disgraced Roman Polanski is set to be extradited to the U.S. under armed guard after a bid to halt the process was rejected.

It follows French head of state Nicolas Sarkozy hand-delivering a personal letter to Barack Obama from the film director asking to be spared jail – a move which apparently failed because the American President refused even to read the note.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good. And frankly I think that the people of France should be angry that Sarkozy in his official capacity worked to protect a child molester!

In Defense of Sedition

Sedition, Joe Klein informed us (reading off of a napkin), is a threat to "the authority of the state." But the key question is: authority to do what? Does the American state have unlimited "authority" to do everything and anything the Marxist in the White House, the former senator from ACORN, can dream up? If they can nationalize automobile companies, banks, and the healthcare industry, do they also have the "authority" to nationalize the grocery industry, home building, steel manufacturing, and everything else?

Arizona Immigration Reform: Common Sense or Police State?

Arizona’s new immigration bill will require police officers to perform identification checks whenever they believe there to be a probable cause, or reasonable suspicion, that the person in question may have entered into the state illegally, namely through the Mexican border.

Though the bill does not specifically single out Latinos, it is clear that they will be disproportionately targeted by the new laws. Now that Arizona has paved the way, will the anti-immigration movement reignite?

Jewish Appeals in Support of Goldstone Report

Please read, sign, and repost/email.... also included is a Rabbinical letter, also in support of Goldstone. Excellent! (and, finally!)

from the petition:

....We must hold the Israeli government and the Jewish establishment accountable for attempting to vilify a truth-teller and for suppressing the truth about Israeli government crimes against the Palestinian people. We call upon each and every one of us to speak out at every opportunity–at our community centers and synagogues, in our homes, in the street, wherever we go..... We must demand that the truth be heard and that those claiming to speak in our name stop manipulating truths that have been well-documented for years, long before the Goldstone report. We are also appalled by the Obama Administration’s reaction to the report. We call for a fair and impartial investigation of the report’s allegations by non-military institutions in Israel. Failing that, we call for an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC)....

from the Rabbinic Letter to Goldstone:

....As rabbis, we note the religious implications of the report you authored. We are deeply saddened by the controversy that has grown up around the issuing of the report. We affirm your findings and believe you set up an impeccable standard that provides strong evidence that Israel engaged in war crimes during the assault on Gaza that reveal a pattern of continuous and systematic assault against Palestinian people and land that has very little to do with Israel’s claim of security. Your report made clear the intentional targeting of civilian infrastructures such as hospitals, schools, agricultural properties, water and sewage treatment centers and civilians themselves with deadly weapons that are illegal when used in civilian centers....

Symbolic identifiers and Jewish stereotypes - Gilad Atzmon

Jews are usually proud to define themselves as Jews. Some Jews may, for instance, proudly carry the Jewish banner (Jews for Peace, Jews for Justice, Jews for Jesus and so on) as if they believe that the ‘J’ word contains special righteous attributions. However, they also will be gravely offended if they are called a ‘Jew’ by others. Suggesting to a Jew that “he is a Jew” or “behaves like a Jew” can be regarded as a serious ‘racist’ offence.

"Find Me The Man, I'll Find The Crime"

All of the serious charges against Gregory Girard have been dropped, yet he remains behind bars and denied bail until the people responsible for putting him there can devise a suitable "crime" to justify his imprisonment.

This task shouldn't tax the malicious creativity of the Salem County Prosecutor, given that Girard, a resident of Manchester-by-the-sea, Massachusetts, is a middle-aged male gun owner and unreconstructed "right-wing extremist."

As Josef Stalin's secret police chief Lavrenti Beria put it: Find me the man, and I'll find the crime.
