America the Shrunken” | WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

America the Shrunken”

There are still some rich cities in America, and even some glitzy ones, but when we pull back the curtains and survey the entire stage, today we see a preponderance of decay. Detroit, Chicago, many California cities, much of Florida, and so many more with not only neighborhoods but entire counties and larger areas rotting from the inside. The great corporations are gone, the jobs are gone, the wealth is gone; only decaying skeletons remain to remind us of what once was. So much of America today is just junkyards, abandoned homes, lifeless slums, empty lots, rusting carcasses of factories, and homes full of despair.

“California has become a failed state. California’s crisis is by no means unique. That dream is dead. Policies enacted in the second half of the 20th century ultimately undermined it. The tax revolt of the late 1970s dismantled the dream in order to enable a select few to continue enjoying it. Large corporations and the elites chose to restructure state government to cut off everyone else from public services while preserving their own subsidies.” Bill Bryson said in an interview with the UK Telegraph: “America has, during my lifetime, engaged in long campaigns to make everything as ugly as possible. I just find that heartbreaking and disappointing.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

We live in a lovely, small community, where people know their neighbors, and smile, and say hello to them frequently.

But in our nearest "larger neighbor to the West", one sees boarded up businesses; young people, and sometimes kids, reaching out for some kind of hand out, just to keep body and soul together.

This is absolutely NOT the America I grew up to expect, at this point in the 21st century; At 70, I am very blessed to be working. But that so many people are having tough times all around us, is very disconcerting.

President Trump cannot be talking about a "great economy", when the real numbers say something else entirely different; this country is very close to losing what used to be the middle class, as the decently paying jobs are outsourced to Asia, or wherever else the labour is the cheapest.

People who used to be able to afford house payments, because of those former middle class jobs no longer can; they have been shoved into bone/brain crunching jobs at places where cheap labor is the norm.

And unless there is some remedy to these conditions, and soon, in this country, we may well see collective unhappiness morph into seething anger.

Where that anger will take this society, I cannot tell; but it is very close to happening soon.

I thank you for this article it is so very true today.
My initial response is the quote from Saint Augustine of HIPPO ,he got so much right.
"Hope has two beautiful daughters, anger and courage, anger at the way things are ,and the courage to see that they do not remain so" or close.
10 years is a stretch I predict 3 or 4 tops!
