Whenever I listen to the song “Christmas in the Trenches” or watch the video I cry.
I cry for those soldiers on both sides of the war who at one special night so long ago recognized each others humanity.
I cry because I know right after that night they all were transferred to different fronts to make them forget what they had learned.
I know, that after that night the first major war-lies were developed on the side of the allies spreading rumors that German soldiers were roasting Belgian babies.
I know that those soldiers there would, if they survived at all, go through another 4 years of hell in a war that was supposed to end all wars, only to see 25 years later their sons being led to a new and even more lethal slaughter, and possibly they would see their grandchildren burned alive in their cities in a rain of fire from far above...
