Electromagnetic pulse attack on Hawaii would devastate the state

With North Korea developing its nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities, Hawaii defense experts are concerned North Korea could target the 50th state with an EMP attack. Such an explosion, if executed high enough in the atmosphere, could be hundreds of miles from Hawaii and still damage its operations and communications.

One Second After, is a good story about this by William Forstch.

Not in Hawaii but a good story with a foreword by Newt Gingrich, we just read this and seemed ironic it should be back in the news.
Reading this during a power outage or strong storms like we did is spooky.
The EMP in the book worked well , and could take out lots of infrastructure,BUT , lots of things will still work just fine and the people of Hawaii would do much better than mainland people with no access to the seashore and it food AND water.

I think the diesel engines would still work ok.
