A Dutch appeals court has reinstated an international arbitration panel's ruling that Russia should pay $50 billion in compensation to ex-shareholders of the defunct Russian oil giant, Yukos, overturning a previous court decision.
The Hague Court of Appeal ruled on Tuesday that the 2016 ruling cancelling the arbitration decision "was not correct," meaning that "the arbitration order is in force again."

The Russian Justice Ministry said immediately after the ruling that it would appeal the court's decision. The Ministry of Justice said the court had ignored the fact that the former Yukos shareholders were not "bona fide investors."

The Justice Department is investigating the role of Obama-era CIA director John Brennan in the assessment that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 election. Attorney General William Barr appointed US Attorney John Durham to the case.

The New York Times reported on Thursday that Durham appears to be pursuing the theory that Brennan had a preconceived notion about Russian interference, manipulated evidence to get a particular result, and prevented other intelligence agencies from seeing all the evidence. There is evidence that shows Brennan played an integral role in the early days of Russiagate.

Can the World’s Second Superpower Rise From the Ashes of Twenty Years of War

February 15 marks the day, 17 years ago, when global demonstrations against the pending Iraq invasion were so massive that the New York Times called world public opinion “the second superpower.” But the U.S. ignored it and invaded Iraq anyway. So what has become of the momentous hopes of that day?

The U.S. military has not won a war since 1945, unless you count recovering the tiny colonial outposts of Grenada, Panama and Kuwait, but there is one threat it has consistently outmaneuvered without firing more than a few deadly rifle shots and some tear gas. Ironically, this existential threat is the very one that could peacefully cut it down to size and take away its most dangerous and expensive weapons: its own peace-loving citizens.

Antibiotic-resistant superbugs could leave chemotherapy ineffective within the next decade, oncologists warn

British oncologists have seen a rise in superbug infections among cancer patients in the past year alone, some of which are deadly.

A predicted 65,000 cancer patients could develop potentially life-threatening drug-resistant infections after surgery in the next decade.

Cancer patients may be more vulnerable to emerging superbugs because their immune systems have been made weaker by treatment.

Therefore, routine medical interventions, such as chemotherapy and other surgeries, may become less safe to use - thereby 'ineffective' - because of the infection risk.

Bloomberg once accused BDS supporters of wanting Israelis to be ‘massacred’

In 2012, Brooklyn’s Park Slope Food Coop held a vote over whether or not to support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. One of those responses came from Michael Bloomberg, who was the Mayor of NYC at the time. “I think it has nothing to do with the food,” he said after being asked about the vote at a press conference. “The issue is there are people who want Israel to be torn apart and everybody to be massacred, and America is not going to let that happen.”

Despite Bloomberg’s characterization of boycott supporters, he’d later go on to defend Brooklyn College’s right to host a BDS event in 2013. State lawmakers had threatened funding cuts over the fact the the school’s political science department sponsored the event. “If you want to go to a university where the government decides what kind of subjects are fit for discussion, I suggest you apply to a school in North Korea,” Bloomberg said.

Into The Inferno: 75 Years On, The Most Horrifically Vivid Account of The Allied Bombing of Dresden

During the final months of World War II, from February 13 to 15, 1945, Allied forces bombed the ancient, cathedral city of Dresden, in eastern Germany.

The bombing was controversial because Dresden's contribution to the war effort was minimal compared with other German cities — though it was a key transport junction and used by German forces to defend the country against Soviet forces approaching from the east.

Bloomberg is a fervent Israel advocate. In 2014, as Mayor of New York, he flew to Israel to support Israel’s ruthless assault on Gaza that killed hundreds of children – & defied the FAA’s flight ban to do it.
