Security Theater: Customary Federal Pointlessness

Fred on Terrorism and Government!

A few cheering thoughts on terrorism. This column specializes in cheering thoughts.

The notion that the government can prevent terrorism suggests studied inattention to the obvious. To begin, the intelligence agencies have proved useless. NSA did not prevent the first attack on the Twin Towers in 1993, nor the successful one.

It is interesting to remember that terrorism is not bad for everybody. For the Pentagon, Nine-Eleven was a windfall, providing wars and new drones; for NSA, a massive expansion in its powers; for Israel and AIPAC, the destruction of Israel’s arch-enemy, Iraq; for the arms manufacturers, hundreds of billions; for the federal government in general, near-dictatorship and, for jihadists, the involvement of the US in crippling and endless wars. Which is what they wanted. Everybody profited except the American public.

Radical Americanism has killed tens of Millions

In reaction to the leftist nuts blaming guns and ignoring radical Islam, some on the right have fallen into a trap by giving themselves self congratulating pats on the back for having the bravery to not be PC and openly challenge militant Islam. While better than the leftist buffoons, the Alt right are still missing the boat and are still buffoons themselves. When the US armed and financed the Contras in Nicaragua or the El Salvadorian death squads, the Catholics in Latin America were every bit as brutal as the Sunnis Muslims in the Middle East. They too cut off heads, killed civilians, raped, tortured, had child soldiers and killed prisoners, they just didn’t have YouTube and liveleak to show it off on.The most dangerous religion is Statism.

WOW: Wife of Deputy Who killed Jack Yantis says "I am very proud of both of these men!"

Just when I thought this story couldn't get any crazier, the wife of Deputy Brian Wood, one of two Idaho Sheriffs who killed Jack Yantis on November 1st, posted a message on Facebook explaining her perspective of her husband's exchange with a 79 year old man a few years ago, in which the department Wood worked for at the time paid out $14,500 to 79-year old Rodney "Tom" Whaley. After setting the record straight about the 79-year-old troublemaker, in which her husband showed "grace and patience" with the oldster, she ends with her thoughts on the Yantis killing: "As such, I greatly look forward to the conclusion of the investigation and the truth about the November 1st gunfight becoming public." (smile emoticon added.) I'll say one thing, this broad truly gives new meaning to the term "stand by your man."

Newest ransomware pilfers passwords before encrypting gigabytes of data

A new wave of crypto ransomware is hitting Windows users courtesy of poorly secured websites. Those sites are infected with Angler, the off-the-shelf, hack-by-numbers exploit kit that saves professional criminals the hassle of developing their own attack.

The latest round is especially nasty because before encryption, the drive-by attacks first use malware known as Pony to harvest any login credentials stored on the infected computer, according to a blog post published by a firm called Heimdal Security.

An Invitation to Collective Suicide: From ISIS to War World IV

Answering that question requires taking seriously the outcomes of other recent U.S. interventions in the Greater Middle East. In 1991, when the first President Bush ejected Saddam Hussein’s army from Kuwait, Americans rejoiced, believing that they had won a decisive victory. A decade later, the younger Bush seemingly outdid his father by toppling the Taliban in Afghanistan and then making short work of Saddam himself — a liberation twofer achieved in less time than it takes Americans to choose a president. After the passage of another decade, Barack Obama got into the liberation act, overthrowing the Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi in what appeared to be a tidy air intervention with a clean outcome. As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton memorably put it, “We came, we saw, he died.” End of story.

Bombshell: The Turkish Assault on Russia’s SU-24 was Guided by the US Air Force

Russia Insider reports that the ambush on the Russian U-24 bomber was guided by the US Airforce. In an interview with the Russian news agency Regnum, a Russian military expert said that “A US Air Force Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS plane took off on 24 November from the Preveza airbase in Greece. A second E-3A of the Saudi Arabian air force took off from the Riyadh airbase. Both planes were executing a common task—determining the precise location of Russian aircraft. It is they that picked the “victim.”

The American E-3A was supposed to determine the activity of the Su-24M2?s onboard targeting radar, to determine if it was in search mode or if it had already locked on to a target and was processing launch-data. It is known that the AWACS can direct the activity of aircraft in battle, conveying information to their avionics and flight computers.

How Russia is smashing the Turkish game in Syria

So why did Washington take virtually forever to not really acknowledge ISIS/ISIL/Daesh is selling stolen Syrian oil that will eventually find its way to Turkey?
Trends
Islamic State

Because the priority all along was to allow the CIA – in the shadows – to run a “rat line” weaponizing a gaggle of invisible “moderate rebels”.

As much as Daesh – at least up to now – Barzani mob in Iraqi Kurdistan was never under Washington’s watch. The oil operation the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) runs to Turkey is virtually illegal; stolen state-owned oil as far as Baghdad is concerned.

Daesh stolen oil can’t flow through Damascus-controlled territory. Can’t flow though Shiite-dominated Iraq. Can't go east to Iran. It’s Turkey or nothing. Turkey is the easternmost arm of NATO. The US and NATO “support” Turkey. So a case can be made that the US and NATO ultimately support Daesh.

Last week Turkey shot down a Russian military plane over Syria. Turkish-backed fighters on the ground then executed one of the parachuting crew members. The militants also shot down a responding Russian rescue helicopter with a US-supplied anti-tank missile, killing a Russian marine.

France seeks constitutional reform to extend state of emergency limit to 6 months – govt sources

France is aiming to change its constitution to allow a state of emergency to last for six months, according to government sources. It comes less than one month after terror attacks in Paris left 130 people dead and 352 others injured.
The proposal to extend the current three-month state of emergency limit will be put to ministers on December 23, according to AFP.

It comes just two days after Prime Minister Manuel Valls said the current state of emergency could be extended after its scheduled end on February 26.

"Obviously, we can't rule out that possibility, depending on the level of danger, and we have to act with a great deal of responsibility," Valls told Europe 1 radio on Tuesday.

However, the proposal to extend the state of emergency limit has been slammed by many who say the government is abusing its powers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When any government assumes Fascistic, dictatorial powers over its citizens, it is loathe to give them up; France just proved that by suggesting that the state of emergency be extended by an additional 3 months.

And if the citizens of France chose to do nothing about it, this state of emergency will become...permanent.

Turkish Opposition MP Set to Reveal Evidence Linking Erdogan to Daesh Oil

Eren Erdem, a lawmaker from the Republican People's Party, Turkey's largest opposition party, says that he may have found the evidence linking President Recep Erdogan's son-in-law to the dirty oil trade with Daesh.

Commenting on the sensational allegations put forth by Russia on Wednesday that Turkish President Recep Erdogan and his family are directly connected to the trade of dirty oil, Erdem revealed that he is ready to publicize information next week linking Berat Albayrak, President Erdogan's son-in-law and the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, to the Daesh oil trade.

In the course of his press conference, covered by Sputnik Turkey, Erdem explained that on the basis of his investigation, which is still in progress, "I have been able to establish that there is a very high probability that Berat Albayrak is linked to the supply of oil by the Daesh terrorists."

Russian Retaliation Will Be Defeating NATO in Syria

It would seem that the US general would be either on hand, or having just concluded his business with his Turkish counterparts just as Turkey carried out what surely was a long-planned ambush of a Russian warplane near the Syrian-Turkish border, and in particular, precisely over the “Turkmen-populated areas in Syria.”

Not only did Turkey ambush the warplane – which at best flew a mere 17 seconds in Turkey’s airspace and at worst, never entered it in the first place – but NATO-backed terrorists operating inside Syria also participated, attempting to execute both pilots by firing at them as they parachuted to the ground killing one of them – a war crime under the Geneva Convention – and attacking rescue helicopters attempting to retrieve the pilots, killing one Russian Marine.

Moldovan parliament allows national army to take part in EU military operations

Moldova’s parliament has given consent to the use of the national army in military operations under the auspices of the European Union as provided by the association agreement of 2014. The parliament passed relevant amendments on Thursday. The opposition subjected this bill to criticism saying it violated the country’s neutral status established in the Moldovan constitution. "As for the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the situation is clear, since they are international organizations. But the European Union is a different thing, as it is a group of states. You have put an equal mark between them. Isn’t that a violation of the country’s neutrality?," Oleg Lipski, a lawmaker with the Party of Socialists, said. The opposition Party of Communists also voted against the bill, which however was passed by the majority of votes from pro-European parties. Under the constitution, Moldova is an off-bloc, neutral state.

The Real “Terrorist Sympathizers” Want To Wage War On Syria … And Russia

David Cameron has appealed to Conservative MPs to give him an overall parliamentary majority in favour of military action in Syria by warning them against voting alongside “Jeremy Corbyn and a bunch of terrorist sympathisers”.

“You should not be walking through the lobbies with Jeremy Corbyn and a bunch of terrorist sympathisers,” the prime minister reportedly told the committee.

Surely terrorist sympathizer should not be allowed to run around freely and to influence the children. These could end up no longer believing what the government and the media are telling them. They would become radicals:

A leaflet drawn up by an inner-city child safeguarding board warns that “appearing angry about government policies, especially foreign policies” is a sign “specific to radicalisation”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, it is not that far a stretch from verbal insults to concentration costs.

What concerns me, potentially domestically, is President Obama's love of extrajudicial assassinations abroad. I have to wonder just how soon he will convince himself that he is perfectly legally justified in targeting peacefully dissenting, logical Americans who disagree with him, with utterly no due process.

The truth of the business is, the alleged "war on terror" is an insurance for perpetual war, which makes a lot of money for the military industrial complex, and enables the US government to cow Americans into giving up more of their freedoms for alleged "security".

Turkey will lose up to $440 mln a year if Black Sea straits are closed for Russian oil

"What does the closure of the straits mean? That means that $110-115 mln tonnes of oil and oil products should go through some other outlets and won’t reach consumers via the straits. Turks also know how to count: in average transportation of one tonne of oil costs $3 not more than $4. Let’s multiply 110 million tonnes by $4 - that is what Turkey will lose," Tokarev said that 60 million tonnes of 110 million tonnes are of Russian origin. This includes 25-27 million tonnes of oil and 35 million tonnes of oil products. The oil supplied by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, Kazakh and Azeri oil account for the rest 40 million tonnes. More troops in Iraq will sow the exact same chaos as America's Libya folly

The Pentagon announced Tuesday a new “expeditionary force” (a propaganda term to avoid saying “ground troops”) that will apparently operate apart from any Iraqi or Syrian rebel allied fighters and be able to conduct cross-border raids in either country.

It’s worth harkening back to the last military intervention – one that has now completely backfired – to question if more US soldiers on the ground in multiple countries will only exacerbate the problem, rather than be part of the solution. No, not the Iraq invasion, even though that it obviously caused destruction on a massive scale and precipitated the rise of Isis. I’m talking about Libya in 2011.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This US intervention is a guarantee for a perpetual war in the Middle East.

And although this author has absolutely done his homework on these issues, he misses several critical points; war is wonderfully profitable for the military-industrial complex, and gives the Federal government an illegitimate aura of authority it uses to cow Americans into surrendering more and more of their freedoms in the name of "security".

The problem is, without the freedoms outlined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, there IS no real security for We the People; and therein lies the problem.

Al-Qaeda Seizes Key Yemen Cities as Southern Presence Grows

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) was among the most direct beneficiaries when Saudi Arabia launched its war against Yemen back in March, seizing the remote port city of al-Mukalla as a base of operations early on, as the Shi’ite Houthis were no longer able to target them, and the Saudis were simply unwilling.

As the war has dragged on, AQAP has gotten bigger and bigger, and has now seized several more towns and cities, including the Abyan Provincial capital of Zinjibar and the nearby town of Jaar, both held by pro-Saudi forces and both evacuated when AQAP rolled in.

Pro-Saudi officials claimed they’d fought tooth and nail to keep AQAP out, but locals reported only a handful of deaths, and said AQAP arrived amid a virtually total absence of defenses. An AQAP allied faction, Ansar al-Shariah, controlled Abyan Province during the Arab Spring rebellions as well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US-enabled Saudi invasion of Yemen, in order to bring back the Al-Hadi government, is not working very well at all.

It is high time that the Yemenite people have control over their destiny, and a government with which they are comfortable, and feel will represent their needs and concerns.

Britain launches airstrikes hours after Parliament backs ISIS bombings

British fighter jets have taken part in their first airstrikes in Syria, hours after UK lawmakers voted in favor of bombing ISIS strongholds there.

"RAF Tornadoes have just returned from their first offensive operation over Syria and have conducted strikes," a spokesman for Britain's Ministry of Defense (MOD) said early Thursday.

The four jets took off from Akrotiri air base in Cyprus, targeting an oil field in Eastern Syria, the MOD told CNN.

More details on the operation are expected from the ministry later today.

Lawmakers voted 397 in favor of action and 223 against, following a 10-hour debate.

After the November 13 terror attacks in Paris, France asked the U.S.-led coalition to bump up the military offensive against ISIS.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Congratulations, Prime Minister Cameron, for having unofficially declared war on Syria, even after no Syrian perpetrators of the tragedy in Paris were discovered; all the dead terrorists had EU passports, not Syrian!!

The fact that the bombings took place "just hours" after Parliament had voted to do this indicates that the military in Cyprus was pre-positioned during the debate on the bill, just waiting for the "go" order.

It has not occurred, apparently, to the allegedly "best and brightest" in Western governments that the more the West bombs, the more hatred, terror, and radicalism it engenders.

ISIS is funded, trained, and equipped by the US, and it's purpose was to bring down the al-Assad government; Russia is in Syria at the behest of the Syrian government, and is doing a bang spot-on job of eliminating as many terrorists (including those the US has trained and supported) as humanly possible. They understand that regime change right in Syria will create a power vacuum most likely to be filled by the most radical of radical rebels.

It is just a matter of time, with the airspace so crowded in Syria, that there will be a military conflict between Britain and or the US with Russia. It appears this is precisely what the US and UK want to see happen, perhaps augmented in the West by NATO.

I would politely suggest to Prime Minister Cameron that a war with Russia is a really, really lousy idea.

And again, precisely as it is with US foreign policy, just because something is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the UK government could possibly do, is no guarantee, unfortunately, that it won't do just that.

Active shooter drills carried out EVERY MONTH at San Bernardino Inland Regional Center... staff tweeted 'drill started' as police raid began

Yes, this woman actually texted, "Drill started." She recognized the pattern of movement that law enforcement has drilled countless times before. It's the same thing they've been drilling for every single month.

What are the mathematical odds that a building where law enforcement has been "active shooter" drilling month after month would be randomly hit by active shooters? Nearly zero, of course. Similarly, of all the buildings in Los Angeles, how many are used by police as training grounds for monthly shooting drills? Virtually zero.

Maybe these active shooters are just incredibly, astronomically unlucky, huh? They chose to be active shooters in the exact same building where LA law enforcement has been training in active shooting drills for months!

RUSSIA THREATENS "RETALIATORY ACTION" AFTER NATO EXPANDS ALLIANCE FOR FIRST TIME IN SIX YEARS

As the war in Syria enters its fifth year with no end in site, it’s easy to forget about the world’s “other” proxy conflict, that which is still unfolding in Ukraine.

You might remember Ukraine as yet another example of US intervention gone horribly awry. Indeed, this was but another instance of Washington stepping in to support “democratic” protests on the way to bringing about regime change. Just three months after a dramatic visit to Maidan Square by the Senate’s favorite warhawk John McCain, Russian-backed President Viktor Yanukovych was unceremoniously ousted.

Unfortunately, the democratic utopia that America figured was inevitable didn’t take shape (just like it didn’t take shape after Gaddafi in Libya or after Saddam in Iraq) and now, Ukraine is mired in civil war as Russian-backed separatists battle Kiev’s US-backed regulars and a handful of nationalist militias.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Bloomberg is lying outright in that last paragraph.

When Yanukovych was unceremoniously dumped last year, courtesy of the US, the IMF, and the Soros Foundation, Crimea realized that there was no legitimate government in Kiev.

Crimea then, in a free and fair election, asked its citizens as to whether they wanted to rejoin the Russian Federation; the citizens voted to do this, and Russia allowed Crimea to join the Russian Federation. It was clear, clean, and no "annexation" whatsoever took place.

Also, Bloomberg's alleged "fact checkers" (who must have been asleep when this story was vetted) missed the reality that until the mid-fifties, Crimea HAD been a part of Russia; it was annexed by Khrushchev, himself a native Ukrainian, as part of the Ukraine.

'SHE SAID SHE THOUGHT IT WAS A DRILL:' STARTING LAST YEAR, CENTER'S STAFF BEGAN COMPLETING ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILLS

Today, we read: San Bernardino mass shooting leaves multiple dead, authorities say - At least 14 people were killed and up to three suspects were being sought in a mass shooting Wednesday on the grounds of a social services facility in Southern California, authorities said. San Bernardino County sheriff spokeswoman Coral Castro told Newsday that San Bernardino police are still searching for the trio of suspects. Authorities said 14 people were killed and at least 14 more were at area hospitals, some with "significant injuries."...A witness told CNN his daughter was evacuated from the building. "She said she thought it was a drill," he said. Starting last year, the staff began completing active shooter drills.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I feel great sorrow for the victims of this shooting, their friends and families; however, this event seems to me to have all the earmarks of a "false flag" event, with an agenda, and the timing was to misdirect Americans' attention from some very fateful events happening around the world, most notably in and around Syria.

One of the most disturbing aspects, repeated by the corporate whorespondents yesterday, like a mantra, was that fact that reporters were "led away from the scene" by police.

What was it the reporters might have discovered which would have thrown a monkey wrench into the official narrative, which, very clearly, the FBI, ATF, and police wanted to completely control?!?

And please be aware; with all the active shooter drills done here, and every bit of intelligence from the FBI, CIA, DHS, and every other known and unknown alphabet soup-named agencies, the authorities in California were completely unable to prevent this horrific event from happening.

Then, of course, you have a gruesome scenario which perfectly aligns with the gun grabbers' desired outcome in this country. The question which must be asked is, when every legal gun owner, who has done no wrong, has their guns confiscated, what will Federal and State governments come after next?!? That revelation comes to us from Zero Hedge, which reported yesterday regarding the financial mess which Greece has become:

When earlier today we read a report in the Greek Enikonomia, according to which Greek taxpayers would be forced to declare all cash "under the mattress" (including inside) or boxes that contain more than 15,000 euros as well as jewelry and precious stones (including gold) worth over 30,000 euros, starting in 2016, we assumed this has to be some early April fools joke or a mistake. After all, this would be merely the first step toward full-blown asset confiscation, conducted so many times by insolvent governments throughout history, once the government cracks down on those who made a "mistake" in their asset declaration form or simply refuse to fill such a declaration, thereby making all their assets eligible for government confiscation. It was not a joke. Here is the take of Keep Talking Greece, whose stunned response mirrors ours. Cash "under the mattress" totaling more than 15,000 euro, jewelry and other valuable items such as diamonds and gemstones, should be declared to electronic system of tax authorities, Taxisnet, as of 1 January 2016. Next to properties and vehicles and shares, now the taxpayers will also have to declare their deposits. And not only that. They will have to fill if they rent bank lockers and if yes, also the name of the bank and the branch, even if abroad.

But we need to look at the broader picture here, as horrific and stomach-churning as yesterday's events were in San Bernardino.

Yesterday, Britain's Prime Minister Cameron got his Parliamentary vote to bomb Syria, and the bombing commenced shortly after the votes were tallied.

The Turkish government, which decided it would be "intelligent" to blow a Russian fighter jet out of the sky last week, when the jet was perhaps over its territory for seconds, has been shown to be complicit in trading ISIS oil, and that has been validated through numerous resources. It's relationship with Russia is now, well and truly in the toilet for this act.

The US has committed to further "troops on the ground" in Syria and Iraq, allegedly to fight ISIS; Iraq has said they do not want more boots on the ground in their country, as it has suffered enough through US occupation, thank you very much.

Russia has been very effectively mowing down jihadists' operations in Syria, including those who the US has trained, equipped, and sponsored. Russia was invited to do this by the Syrian government; the US, France, and the UK have not been invited to do this, because of their collective, mule-headed insistence that Al-Assad must leave, which will only create a power vacuum, leading to more violence.

Russia and the US are not really cooperating militarily. It is only a matter of time before there is a confrontation, and we are off and running directly into World War III.

And as tragic as yesterday's events in San Bernardino were, we cannot take our eyes off the big picture of the coming of a world war, which the US is desperately attempting to generate, to distract Americans from a coming financial collapse which will be truly, spectacularly devastating.

Russia Proves Turkey’s Involvement in Selling Stolen Syrian and Iraqi Oil

Western media say little about what demands daily headlines. Erdogan and his regime are complicit with ISIS, supplying training, weapons, and acting as a conduit for stolen Syrian and Iraqi oil, profiting hugely from its sales.

New York Times covers up US responsibility for ISIS surge in Libya

In a lengthy article entitled “ISIS’ Grip on Libyan City Gives It a Fallback Option,” the New York Times last weekend provided a chilling account of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s rule over the city of Sirte (also known as Surt) on Libya’s Mediterranean coast.

Hillary’s Plan To Combat ISIS Won’t Work

In contrast to most Republican candidates, who have given us general platitudes about “getting tougher on terrorism” or vague promises to use more
ground troops in Iraq or Syria, Hillary Clinton has proposed a more concrete
program for battling ISIS; unfortunately most of it is bad.
