Media Support US Violence Against Syria, but Long for More
Atlantic: A Reckoning Will Come in Syria

And by “reckoning,” the Atlantic (4/14/18) appeared to mean “a war with Russia and its allies.”

Corporate media outlets were glad that the US, France and Britain bombed Syria in violation of international law (FAIR.org, 4/18/18), but lamented what they see as a dearth of US violence in the country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is never the children of the monied elite presstitutes and warmongers whose kids will get killed, or maimed for life, in such wars; they always want it to be... other people's children, getting killed or maimed for life to preserve the US's economic, and geopolitical hegemony.

Israel wants Syria balkanized and Tehran regime changed; of course, only at the costs of American or Saudi blood and money; and whatever Israel wants, the editors of our non-esteemed manure spreaders, like the Washington Compost, want Israel to have, and want to make sure that the American people swallow such codswallop whole, and unquestioningly.

Americans can no longer tolerate our government doing this, because of the huge costs, geopolitically, and financially of enabling Israel toward its stated end of complete domination of the Middle East, and its oil.

In fact, the following article, states this quite clearly:

As Israel becomes a political liability it is time to challenge its enablers

Jewish guilt is the discourse of the goyim

For quite some time the British have accepted that British-Jewish organisations have hijacked the political discourse. As has happened in other Western countries, the British political establishment has engaged is a relentless rant against anti-Semitsm. Sometime the focus drifts for a day or two. An alleged “Russian nerve agent attack” provided a 48-hour pause. Occasionally we bomb Arabs in the name of “humanitarian intervention” only to realise a day or two later that we have, once again, followed a premeditated foreign agenda. But, somehow, we always return to the anti-Semitsm debate, as if our media and politicians are a herd of flies gravitating to a pile of poop...>>

Ex-Facebook Executive: "You Don't Realize It But You Are Being Programmed"

Several months ago, one of the early pioneers of Facebook and its first President Sean Parker, voiced his regret regarding helping create social media in the form we know it today, saying:

“I don’t know if I really understood the consequences of what I was saying, because of the unintended consequences of a network when it grows to a billion or 2 billion people and it literally changes your relationship with society, with each other,”…

”God only knows what it’s doing to our children’s brains.”

Parker says the social networking site exploits human psychological vulnerabilities through a validation feedback loop that gets people to constantly post to get even more likes and comments.

“It’s exactly the kind of thing that a hacker like myself would come up with, because you’re exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology,” he said.

Putin Was There: The Day Britain’s Lights Finally Went Out!

Since just before the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia I’ve been a media analyst focused on the most widespread and belligerent propaganda campaign in the history of the world. Never in human history has there been more control of a singular message. Yes, the Nazis maintained such control over the Third Reich. And it’s true the Chinese Communists under Chairman Mao flipped the light switch of truth on and off alternatively. However, these regimes did not hold a candle to the blistering and blinding brainwashing that our western mainstream media radiates today. What we are witnessing is almost on the level of total mind control, even to the point of herding humanity to its own doom. For those of us who somehow woke up out of the trance, the sheer magnitude of control almost cauterizes the brain.

CITING FEC'S REFUSAL TO ACT, CREW FILES SUIT AGAINST PAUL RYAN-ALIGNED DARK MONEY GROUP

After nearly six years of stalling by the federal authority that oversees elections, a government ethics watchdog has filed a "historic" lawsuit against a right-wing nonprofit aligned with House Speaker Paul Ryan, alleging that the group has violated campaign finance laws and should be required to register as a political committee, which would mean disclosing its deep-pocketed donors.

"We're committed to open and transparent elections where everyone is following the rules."
—Noah Bookbinder, CREW

With support (pdf) from Ellen L. Weintraub, the sole Democrat on the Federal Election Commission (FEC)—which has neglected to act on a formal complaint filed in 2012—Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington (CREW) on Monday sued the American Action Network (AAN) to challenge the group's nonprofit status.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why am I unsurprised at this?!? The US government is one of the most corrupt on this planet.

CBS Shamelessly Runs Program on the Inevitable Assassination of Trump

In the episode titled “Day 457,” Lockhart was seen in court defending a close friend named Tully Nelson — played by actor Tim Matheson — who had been arrested and charged after he was at a protest that turned into a violent riot.

While waiting to be called before the judge, Nelson tells Lockhart, “I think I’m f—ed. This guy’s a Trump appointee.”

“Alright, just follow my lead and don’t say anything radical,” Lockhart said.

Nelson replied, “Oh, like, ‘We need to assassinate the president?’”

Media Support US Violence Against Syria, but Long for More

Corporate media outlets were glad that the US, France and Britain bombed Syria in violation of international law (FAIR.org, 4/18/18), but lamented what they see as a dearth of US violence in the country.

In The Atlantic (4/14/18), Thanassis Cambanis described the war crime as “undoubtedly a good thing,” and called for “sustained attention and investment, of diplomatic, economic and military resources”—though the latter rubbed up against his assessment in the same paragraph that “a major regional war will only make things worse.” Moreover, he described “the most realistic possibility” for the US and its partners in Syria as “an incomplete and possibly destabilizing policy of confrontation [and] containment. But a reckoning can’t be deferred forever.”

Check out this stirring anthem to freedom in Gaza. It begins with a Palestinian child saying “We shall overcome” and an image of Martin Luther King Jr. and then in many still pictures of the “Great March of Return” conveys the strength of the unarmed resistance to the blockade–including the killing of Yaser Murtaja, the Palestinian journalist who was one of six Palestinian journalists shot by Israeli snipers on April 6.

Cambridge Analytica: Aleksandr Kogan seeks to play down scandal in fake-news inquiry

Cambridge University researcher Aleksandr Kogan, creator of the app that harvested data from the accounts of millions of Facebook users for Cambridge Analytica, is giving evidence to the Commons committee investigating fake news.

Kogan, a social psychologist and academic, told the fake-news inquiry in his written statement that his “work focuses on wellbeing, kindness, and compassion.” He told MPs that in order to study these topics, he and his lab uses a variety of methods “including surveys, behavioral studies, and social media.”

The Cambridge academic told the Commons committee that Facebook handed data over to him for research purposes, which eventually inspired a personality quiz app to compliment the dataset handed over by the social media giant.

The bottom line in America today

Here it is:

If you want to be a a newscaster or reporter in the US, you better be pro-war in every case and all the time.

The recent CNN attack on Jimmy Dore and other people who question war hysteria…

This is the Third “Red Scare” in the last 100 years…

The first one – after WW I – gave J. Edgar Hoover his career and was used to attack civil rights

The second one – after WW II – gave groups like the CIA extraordinary powers, including war waging power in Vietnam.

The third one – after the bogus “War on Terror” – is on now. The goal now is to keep the military-industrial complex humming along and to shut down anyone who questions why our health care, education, and banking systems are in such bad condition.

Voter Distrust Of Political News Is At An All-Time High With Good Reason

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey has found that 54% of likely United States voters now say they do not trust the political news they are getting. Another person accused of being ‘Russian troll’ by Times newspaper for non-mainstream views

Another day, another troll accusation – Twitter user Citizen Halo has taken to social media to lash out at the MSM after a hit piece suggested that she was not a “Finnish activist,” but actually a Russian troll.

Calling her motives and, apparently, location into question, in an article headlined “Skripal trolls mobilised to spread ‘news’ of bombings,” reporters for the Times queried the legitimacy of a person who could question the accepted narrative on both the Skripal poisoning and the recent strikes on Syria.

“If you read this smear piece of me from the Times, you find the source of false info that us (sic) accused are allegedly ‘Russian trolls’ came from Atlantic Council’s Ben Nimmo. Bellingcat’s Higgins is his collegue (sic),” Citizen Halo said.

Maram Susli, also known as Partisangirl, is a Syrian living in Perth, Australia. If you ask the British government, though, she’s a ‘Russian bot.’ London bases these claims on dodgy numbers from shady sources, Susli tells RT.

“Last time I checked, I’m a real human being,” said Susli. “The British government, they can’t even confirm that I’m not an automaton. How can we believe anything they have to say about the evidence they have for Skripal and Syria’s chemical attacks?”

CONNECTING THE DOTS OF BIG DATA, SOARING CORPORATE PROFITS, AND TRADE WARS

Here's how I'm connecting the dots of data collection/data mining and the new model for maximizing profitability: the entire model of "capitalism" (maximizing return on capital and labor) has shifted from getting rich making stuff/providing services to distributing/marketing goods and services in a cartel structure.

In this economy, the essential role is played by big data/data mining. Wal-Mart, Amazon, Facebook, Google et al have no interest in where the goods and services are made/generated; the big profits are in the distribution/marketing (i.e. exploiting large data sets) and gathering and selling these large data sets.

Let's stipulate that those corporations whose entire value proposition is manufacturing expertise will continue to extract profits from manufacturing. But this doesn't mean that this manufacturing remains exclusively in the domestic economy, or that Big Data isn't increasingly a core value-generator for manufacturers.

Tucker Carlson Has Disappeared After Airing Allegation of Syrian False Flag Attack

Since airing his very scathing condemnation of the false flag Syrian chemical attack, in which Carlson makes it clear it was a false flag attack, he has not been heard from. Will he be back on this show on Monday, April 23? Is he fired? Has he just been “talked to”? Carlson has not tweeted since April 12. Is he still alive? The CSS is concerned for the safety of Tucker Carlson. There is one thing we can count on. He definitely got a good scolding for stating that it made no sense for Assad to attack his own people with chemical agents. Will Carlson return tomorrow? You can bet there will be no more talk about false flag events on the Fox News Propaganda channel.

NBC News backs off fishy statistic about plastic straws from research by 9-year-old boy

NBC News on Sunday backed off a dubious claim that Americans use 1.6 straws a day on average, after critics noted it was based on research from a nine-year-old boy whose methodology never has undergone any significant scrutiny.

NBC tweeted Sunday, “Correction: An earlier version of this article included a debunked statistic that Americans throw away 500M drinking straws a day, or 1.6 a day per person. Previous tweets with the article will be deleted, and an updated tweet will be issued.”

A Letter to CBC: Your Biased Coverage of the Land Day Massacre

Dear CBC

Re: Your coverage of the Land Day massacre in Gaza

You state that you “are independent of all lobbies and of all political and economic influence.” This might be true regarding the government that pays for your operations and wages but we regret to say it is definitely NOT true with the pro-Israeli lobby. Once again you were influenced by their lobbying and succumbed to their dictates, propaganda and falsehoods, even in regards to the use of specific language.

Let us start with how the CBC has tried to obscure Israel’s premeditated killing of unarmed protesters by instead talking about “clashes” and “confrontations” and “rock throwing”. The lack of accuracy in your CBC News March 30, 2018 report is but one example. The narrator says:

“Israeli forces responded with force against rock throwing Palestinian protesters, at least seven Palestinians have been killed, hundreds more has been wounded.”

And then your correspondent Derek Stoffel reported:

String Theories: Tucker Carlson And The Unspeakable

But Tucker Carlson gets ghosted after a week pounding holes in the Syria story and there’s ... nothing. Nada. Zip.

I mean….that’s weird, right?

The only pundit on television who is not lock-step with the “Assad did it and we need to invade, STAT!” and even invited the Permanent Establishment’s least favorite journalist, Glenn Greenwald, on air to discuss why the media was hell-bent for war — was taken off-air in the middle of the week.

And it's never mentioned.

If you’ve got a few minutes, head over to alleged media watchdog/gossip sites — left or right, it doesn't matter — Media Matters, Breitbart, the ironically named Reliable Sources, Red State, Huffington Post, Variety and Hollywood Reporter. Any mention of Tucker Carlson’s sudden disappearance is conspicuous by its absence.

The co-founder of Iceland's Pirate Party has told RT that there are "big problems" related to Facebook's selling of data, stressing that the social media giant is treating its users as products.

"You have companies that are forced, and they're so big, they're forced to give governments data and they also sell the data, or as you know they don't sell the data – they sell you. You're the product," Birgitta Jonsdottir told RT's Caleb Maupin.

Out of 26 Major Editorials on Trump’s Syria Strikes, Zero Opposed

A survey by FAIR of the top 100 papers in the US by circulation found not a single editorial board opposed to Trump’s April 13 airstrikes on Syria. Twenty supported the strikes, while six were ambiguous as to whether or not the bombing was advisable. The remaining 74 issued no opinion about Trump’s latest escalation of the Syrian war.

This is fairly consistent with editorial support for Trump’s April 2017 airstrikes against the Syrian government, which saw only one editorial out of 47 oppose the bombing (FAIR.org, 4/11/17). The single paper of dissent from last year, the Houston Chronicle, didn’t publish an editorial on last week’s bombing.

Seven of the top 10 newspapers by circulation—USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, New York Post, Chicago Tribune, Newsday and Washington Post—supported the airstrikes.

Fox News Commentator, Former Adviser To Trump’s Presidential Campaign Defends ISIS

WASHINGTON D.C., The United States – A Fox News commentator and former presidential campaign adviser to Mitt Romney and Donald Trump has gone on record on Twitter to defend ISIS.

Just one problem…

The Palestinian Yarmouk Camp is controlled by ISIS.

There are many strange things with this position, besides the obvious fact he is defending against the Syrian Army’s and their allies offensive against ISIS

For some of the mortgages, Hannity reportedly obtained funding from HUD under the National Housing Act loan program, which was first guaranteed under President Obama's administration.

School Resource Officer Stops School Shooting In Ocala, Florida On Friday, No Media Praise

An armed School Resource Officer arrived to the scene of a shooting and had placed the suspect into custody, ending what could have been a longer assault on students and teachers. The media took note of this thwarted school shooting but unless there’s a lot of death and destruction, they’re rather mute. This type of outcome doesn’t feed ratings, and is why they are overlooked. If the US population actually saw these events like they do the tragic ones, I am certain that we would have a lot more people fighting for the idea of armed personnel inside of schools.

Smeared as ‘Russian Bot’, UK Man Demolishes Sky News Hosts, Slams ‘Neocon Wars’

An interview with a prolific Twitter user accused by the British government of being a “Russian Bot” quickly turned heated as challenged their arguments, particularly their claim that by not toeing the UK government line, he was “anti-Britain” - and perhaps even a Kremlin agent.

It all started with a blog post from the Digital Forensic Research Lab of the DC-based, Gulf-funded think tank Atlantic Council, which said that some of the conversations about the poisoning of double agent Sergei Skripal "appear to involve organized activity, including possibly fake accounts masquerading as English users, in the well-known pattern of the ‘troll factory' in St. Petersburg." The post devotes a substantial portion of space to Twitter user @Ian56789, cited as an "unusual account" that was "especially active" on the subject.

Did UK Fake The Skripal Case To Shut Down RT?

The British authorities have accused the television channel Russia Today of bias in covering the case of the Skripals and threatened to revoke their license. There is not a single broadcasting violation by Russia Today over the past year and a half. This is data provided by the British media regulator Ofcom. And now, seven separate investigations into the television channel have been started: the media regulator is investigating a violation of the principle of objectivity.

“We covered the case of the Skripals much more objectively than all other media, and this can be easily verified,” Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the channel, says. “Ofcom wrote that our channel, in fact, follows the rules of this regulator well and does not violate them. ”

In total, since 2012, Ofcom has recorded 15 minor violations by RT. This is a normal standard for Europe. For comparison: the British Sky News, for the same period, has 10 violations.

‘Fake news’: the mainstreaming of Syria conspiracy theories

Even before the missiles reached their targets, though, what had previously been the claims of a small, if vociferous, section of Assad’s supporters had extended to commentators and analysts; questions started to be asked about whether or not the Douma attack was simply another example of “fake news”.

Such allegations are not new in the Syrian crisis. The regime has long accused opposition groups of faking incidents to support their cause, and Western media of inventing stories to tarnish Assad’s image. Russian websites have largely peddled a narrative sympathetic to their government’s foreign policy in the region, portraying the Syrian opposition as armed terrorist insurgents violating national sovereignty. Over time, regional commentators and analysts have been known to verify news from state news agencies, as well as Russian and Iranian outfits, due to the stories often being backed by unreliable and incomplete evidence.

Apr 21 06:42

THINK FOR YOURSELF AND QUESTION EVERYTHING! : Fake media is coming for our memories...

Let’s put this all together. False memories fester when they make sense to our political worldview, when it’s familiar and repeated ad nauseam, when we trust the source of the information, and when this information is corroborated, shared, and discussed by like-minded people. Where else do all these things happen? Social media. Fake stories tend to move more quickly to people on these platforms than the truth, fueled by surprise and bias.

Apr 21 06:18

First they lied about Iraq, now they’re lying about Syria to wage war

Last week self appointed global sheriff the United States and deputy dawgs Britain and France showered more than 100 missiles upon Syria, telling the world they were making our planet safer by punishing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for gassing his own people with chemical weapons.
***
The decision to bomb Syria had not even been made when Trump jumped the gun and warned Assad and his Russian allies in a tweet of “nice and new and ‘smart’!” missiles heading their way.

According to US media reports, Defence Secretary James “Mad Dog” Mattis pleaded with Trump to wait until Assad’s alleged responsibility for the Douma “attack” could be verified and Congress given a chance to authorise the act of war, but they went ahead to validate Trump’s tweets.

Is everyone registering this? Trump may have risked a third world war so he would not risk losing his credibility for live-tweeting Fox and Friends.

Exclusive: 'Everyday Guy' Describes How He Brought Down An American Terrorist Cell

His path to becoming an informant for the FBI is completely unique. It began in July of 2015 with a trip to the local library with his son. He saw what he considered an anti-Israel poster, which featured a Palestinian flag and described the situation in Israel as apartheid. He tore it down. “They have the right to put that up, and I have the right to take that down, in my opinion, so I did,” Day said of the incident. Then he passed along a photo of the poster to a friend who eventually posted about it on Facebook. The post went viral. Day was soon invited to a cookout attended by a number of members of a militia group in Kansas. Somewhere along the line the story got mixed up, and people in the militia believed that Day had found an ISIS recruiting poster. That wasn’t the case at all. But the FBI, which was looking into rumors of the ISIS poster, interviewed Day and ended up being interested in him because of his connection to the militia.

''7 Days In Entebbe,' Film About Israeli Hostage Rescue, Is Actually Worth Seeing

I had seen the trailer twice at theatres, and it mentioned "the plight of the Palestinian people" while showing a hijacked airline, so it caught my attention. I already knew that Netanyahu's older brother was the only soldier killed in the raid to rescue the hostages in 1976. The rescue took place in Uganda while this country celebrated our 200th anniversary, on July 4, 1976. I fully expected this movie to be a propaganda piece, but was very pleasantly surprised. Very good acting and the Jewish director, who consulted with many who were actually involved in the rescue, presents an accurate historical recount of events, as well as examines the opinions of the "terrorists" on the struggle between Palestine & Israel. For that reason alone, this film deserves our patronage.

Did James Comey Try To Set Trump Up on Salacious Dossier?

We called it.

Last night, here at The Political Insider, we reported that the fabled memos of former FBI Director James Comey outlining his discussions and meetings with President Trump would be released to Congress. In the piece, we noted that you shouldn’t “count on the substance of the memos to remain a secret from the public for very long either.”

Just like clockwork, some of the memos were leaked last night, revealing Comey’s deeply-held memories about his talks with President Trump. And we’re just learning that Comey may have revealed that President Trump was set up in one meeting in order to have the infamous Trump dossier, which documented Trump frequenting Russian prostitutes, reported in the press.

Like many other mainstream pollsters, Gallup wrongly predicted a win for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump right up to the day of the 2016 election. Gallup more famously predicted in 1948 that Thomas Dewey would beat Harry S. Truman and also incorrectly forecast a slim victory for Gerald Ford over Jimmy Carter in 1976. While Gallup correctly predicted the winner of the 2008 presidential election, it was ranked by a Fordham scholar at 17th out of 23 polling organizations in terms of precision. In 2012 Gallup wrongly predicted a Mitt Romney win, and received a drubbing by poll analyst Nate Silver as the least accurate among 23 major firms, with a 7.2 point gap from the final result. More gravely, Gallup was criminally charged and paid fines in 2012 over well-documented charges of falsifying data.

Meghan McCain Blasts James Comey on The View

It’s about damn time somebody slapped that smug, holier-than-thou look off of James Comey’s face.

The former FBI Director paid a visit to ‘The View” to regale the liberal ladies with his mean-spirited stories about President Trump. Anticipation was high:

He wasn’t counting on someone: Meghan McCain.

McCain, who is still a recent addition to the show, ripped Comey a new one, calling him out for his faux all-shucks demeanor.

Let’s get things straight: Comey wrote a book on ethical leadership that reads like a jilted lover’s drunken Facebook wall message. And now he wants to pretend he’s some moral voice for America. McCain wasn’t having it.

FBI agent pleads guilty of leaking in case linked to The Intercept

An FBI agent faced up to five years in prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to providing classified documents to a reporter in the second leak case pursued by the Trump administration linked to The Intercept.

Terry Albury admitted in a Minnesota court to charges that he disclosed information on how federal agents assess and manage informants during 2016 and 2017.

The names of the reporter and media outlet which received the information were not given in court documents.

But specifics of the leaked materials and the timing laid out in the charges pointed to The Intercept, an online publication which frequently breaks important stories on national security.

Western media cover tracks of Trump, May and Macron's war crime in Syria

With astounding double-think, the US and Britain accuse Russia of "tampering" with the alleged chemical-weapon attack site in Syria's Douma – just days after the US, UK and France barraged the county with over 100 missiles.

If anyone is guilty of tampering with the alleged crime scene, it is the NATO trio who rushed to bomb Syria just as inspectors belonging to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) arrived in Syria – invited there by the Syrian and Russian governments.

The frenzied Western media campaign to find Syria and Russia guilty of a war crime involving alleged chemical weapons is further highlighted by the reporting this week by award-winning British journalist Robert Fisk.

Fisk, who has been covering Middle East war zones for nearly 40 years, went to Douma city to file his report for The Independent. Credit goes to The Independent for publishing Fisk's investigative work.

Social media now being used by police and intelligence agencies to collect biometrics

Amid the ongoing Facebook/Cambridge Analytica debacle over their general surveillance and misuse of users’ private data, there is an emerging trend that is infinitely more disturbing.

ALGORITHM TO FIND PHONY USERS ON MANY SOCIAL NETWORKS

A new generic method to detect fake accounts on most types of social networks, including Facebook and Twitter, has been developed by researchers at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheba and the University of Washington in Seattle.

According to a study just published in Social Network Analysis and Mining, the new method is based on the assumption that fake accounts tend to establish improbable links to other users in the networks.

Google Caught Red-Handed Censoring Search Results Asking Questions About Parkland Shooting

Google may be the world’s most popular search engine, but it has also been the subject of a number of accusations in recent years that it is purposefully censoring searches and influencing results. In the case of search results related to the Parkland shooting, that alleged influence is becoming even more apparent.

This week, the staff at The Free Thought Project began testing various keywords related to the Parkland shooting on different search engines, and we noticed that if our search terms were controversial, the first page of Google results was filled with entirely different information than the other search engines. The information showed on Google was often not relevant to our search, and the results always seemed to support the official narrative.

The most striking of these results came when we searched for the words “girl says 3 shooters parkland,” expecting the news footage of an eyewitness from the school saying that there were multiple shooters.

Washington Post & NY Times Win Pulitzer Prize For Fake News

Because they are just as fake as each other, and one was not able to out-fake the other with their Russia/Trump conspiracy theories, Washington Post and The New York Times have shared a Pulitzer prize.

That is correct, in what seems more like a participation trophy for attempting to do journalism, the newspapers were both literally given an award for reporting something that doesn’t exist.

Hypocrisy? Experts Slam Tories Fake News Security Unit As UK Govt ‘Peddles Misinformation’

The government has been accused of having double standards after it announced plans to set up a special unit to tackle fake news, despite its own record of “burying bad” stories and “circulating fake dossiers.”

Downing Street said on Tuesday that a national security unit combating the spread of misinformation would be set up as part of a wider review of defense capabilities. The unit “will be tasked with combating disinformation by state actors and others,” Prime Minister Theresa May’s spokesperson said.

Tenacious Sandy Hook Researcher Wins One in Court

Pozner withdrew the lawsuit after refusing to provide discovery concerning whether Mr. Pozner was Mr. Pozner. AJ 's attorneys should make short work of this man whomever he may be. Bizarre!

As questions continue to surround the official story of the devastating 2012 shooting of schoolchildren and staff in Newtown, Conn., one researcher has prevailed in a lawsuit brought against him by the father of one of the slain children. Dave Gahary interviewed former state trooper Wolfgang Halbig to learn more about the situation.

SECDEF MATTIS: WHERE’S THE PROOF?

I'm old enough to remember the Cuban missile crisis. For those few days in 1962, the family dinner table was tense and the air - the attitude - in the country was surreal. People lived and went to work, as before, but hanging over every waking moment was the full conscious realization, of every second of every day during the crisis, of the possibility that civilization could go up in mushroom clouds of radioactivity. Years later, as the full story of the Cuban missile crisis was finally known and told, it became clear that the world had made it through the crisis largely because two men - Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev and American President John F Kennedy - had stood down their countries' respective "war hawks." The real life scenario had come uncomfortably close to Stanley Kubrick's black comedy, Dr. Strangelove.

Weapons of mass distraction

With the very real prospect or war hanging over the world, the media has a special role to play in getting to the truth.

A properly functioning free press is there to speak that truth and be the backbone of a strong democracy.

But what happens when a partisan media stops holding power to account – can it still claim to serve the people or does it become a weapon of mass distraction?

Once Upon A Time Long Ago Truth Was Important

I wonder how many people, not just Americans but those in other countries, have come to the conclusion that the United States today is a less free and less aware society than the societies in the dystopian novels of the 20th century or in movies such as The Matrix and V for Vendetta. Just as people in the dystopian novels had no idea of their real situation, few Americans do either.

What are we to make of the extraordinary war crimes committed by the United States in the 21st century that have destroyed in whole or part seven countries, resulting in millions of dead, maimed, orphaned, and displaced peoples? Consider, for example, the latest Washington war crime, the illegal attack on Syria. Instead of protesting this illegality, the American media egged it on, cheering impending death and destruction.

‘NY Times’ coverage of Gaza turns biased again, partly in response to pressure from Hasbara Central

After a hopeful improvement, the New York Times coverage of the Gaza protests is unfortunately back to its normal one-sided reporting — and intense pressure from Hasbara Central is surely a major reason. Take a look at this tweet yesterday, as the paper’s main reporter, David Halbfinger, jumps to respond to a pro-Israel critic:
