UN official resigns over Israel apartheid report

The head of the United Nations' West Asia commission, Rima Khalaf, has resigned over what she described as the pressure to withdraw a report that was critical of Israel.

The report accused Israel of imposing an apartheid regime on Palestinians. Lebanon-based Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), which comprises 18 Arab states, published the report on Wednesday and said it was the first time a UN body had clearly made the charge.

"It was expected that Israel and its allies will exercise pressure on the UN secretary-general to distance himself from the report and that they will ask him to withdraw it," Khalaf said at a press conference in Beirut on Friday.

"The secretary-general issued his orders to me yesterday morning to withdraw the report. I asked him to review his position, but he insisted," she said. "Therefore, I submitted to him my resignation from the UN."

Saudi General: Trump Promises Increased Support Against Iran

Saudi Brig. Gen. Ahmed al-Asiri today told a group of US reporters that the Trump Administration has made promises to “significantly” increase US intelligence and military support for the kingdom against Iran, with a particular eye of fighting against the “Iran-backed” Shi’ites in Yemen.

Asiri presented the move as a necessary US commitment to “restore” US-Saudi ties after Saudi resentment that built up during President Obama’s time in office. Though he did not elaborate, Saudi Arabia’s main source of anger at Obama was going along with the nuclear deal with Iran.

Saudi Arabia has long presented its invasion of Yemen as being about the Shi’ites there being an “Iranian proxy,” though evidence suggests no real Iranian support for the Houthi movement before the invasion, and very limited support, mostly to spite the Saudis, afterwards.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word here please.

Iran has not started a war of aggression in over 300 years.

The IAEA says that Iran has been complying will all facets of the P5+1 Agreement.

If the US and Saudi Arabia start a war against Iran, Russia will definitely come to its defense militarily.

And right now, the US military does not have the troop strength; the money; the weaponry; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia.

And finally, Mr. President, I would like to politely point out to you that it is not Iran which is slaughtering children, women, and non-combatants in Yemen, or starving them to death; it is your good pal, Saudi Arabia, in whose war crimes in Yemen you have decided that the US government will continue to be complicit.

Home About Antiwar.com Donate Blog US Casualties Contact Latest NewsSome in Pentagon Fear ISIS War Surge Is ‘Mission Creep’

Just a couple of months out from inauguration, President Trump has been pushing for some pretty substantial escalations of America’s involvement in the ISIS war. This is true the world over, with special forces being deployed in growing numbers, but nowhere is it more obvious than in Syria, where the US has gone from a few hundred troops to a few thousand.

As those troops increase, so do the military goals being set out for Pentagon commanders, which has many of them concerned that they are facing large-scale mission creep, and are being pushed in the direction of scrapping previous efforts to make sure local forces were doing all the heavy lifting on the ground, and that US troops were just facilitators.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the case of Syria, the US military is invading the country in order to attempt regime change here; let us be very clear on the objective, and the alleged "fighting ISIS" is just the cover story, because the Syrian and Russian troops have been quite effective in beating back ISIS here.

Russia urges US comment on reports of fatal Syria mosque strike

The Russian Defense Ministry has urged a comment from the US after photos of a purported US missile fragment found in the rubble of a bombed Syrian mosque emerged online. The Pentagon denies that their forces hit the mosque.
“A photo showing a fragment of an air-to-surface AGM-114 Hellfire missile has emerged. It leaves no chance for the US-led coalition to remain silent as usual and for diplomats to spout anti-Russian rhetoric,” Major-General Igor Konashenkov said Friday.

A general view shows the debris following a reported airstrike on a mosque in the village of Al-Jineh in Aleppo province, March 16, 2017.

The airstrike on a mosque in Syria’s Aleppo province happened overnight into Friday, March 17. At least 40 civilians are feared killed.

“I think we should expect comments from the US partners anytime soon,” Konashenkov noted.

LAPTOP WITH “HIGHLY SENSITIVE” TRUMP DATA, CLINTON EMAIL PROBE INFO STOLEN FROM SECRET SERVICE AGENT

Even when Hillary Clinton is no longer running for president, laptop "accidents" continue to follow her.

As regular readers will recall, shortly before the election, the FBI revealed that a laptop containing some of Hillary Clinton's emails mysteriously disappeared in transit, while several months later, another laptop belonging to Anthony Weiner just as mysteriously was found to contain emails between his then-wife Huma Abedin and her boss, Hillary. The laptop in question prompted the FBI to reopen its probe into Hillary Clinton's emails just days before the presidential election.

Now, according to the New York Daily News which cites police sources, a laptop computer containing information about the Hillary Clinton email investigation, as well as floor plans for Trump Tower and other national security information, was stolen from a Secret Service agent's vehicle in Brooklyn.

Door-Busting Drug Raids Leave a Trail of Blood

As policing has militarized to fight a faltering war on drugs, few tactics have proved as dangerous as the use of forcible-entry raids to serve narcotics search warrants, which regularly introduce staggering levels of violence into missions that might be accomplished through patient stakeouts or simple knocks at the door.

Thousands of times a year, these “dynamic entry” raids exploit the element of surprise to effect seizures and arrests of neighborhood drug dealers. But they have also led time and again to avoidable deaths, gruesome injuries, demolished property, enduring trauma, blackened reputations and multimillion-dollar legal settlements at taxpayer expense, an investigation by The New York Times found.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These raids usually happen in poorer neighborhoods, and of course, to the Deep American State, and their minions overseeing police departments, the killing of poorer American citizens is really of no concern whatsoever.

And did you ever stop to think that whenever the US government "declares war" on something, drugs, poverty, etc, the problem gets worse?!?

The US government should really look at what happened in Portugal, once they decriminalised the ownership of small amounts of recreational drugs for personal use:

WHICH "WAR TORN" COUNTRY? - U.S. SLAUGHTER IN SOMALIA, YEMEN AND SYRIA

When I saw the above tweet this morning I wondered which "war torn" country those Somalis were fleeing from when they were murdered. The tweet doesn't say. Were they fleeing from the "war torn" Somalia? Or were the fleeing from "war torn" Yemen?

It is a sad world when has to ponder such.

It tuned out these people were fleeing from both wars:

Coast guard Mohammad Al Alay told Reuters the refugees, carrying official UNHCR documents, were on their way from Yemen to Sudan when they were attacked by an Apache helicopter near the Bab Al Mandeb strait.
An Apache attack helicopter shot up the refugees' boat. There are Saudi, United Emirati and U.S. Apache helicopters in or around Yemen. It is unknown which of them ordered and which executed the strike. These helicopters, their ammunition and the service for them are a favored U.S. export to belligerent dictatorships like Saudi Arabia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I remember something the brilliant comedian (and near-prophet) George Carlin once said, and I am paraphrasing here, but the concept was that the US government, and military, were very adept at killing brown people; unfortunately, that hasn't changed since Carlin's death.

As a Christian Pacifist Activist and witness, I am constantly exhorting my government to resolve its geopolitical disputes through moral, hard-won diplomatic negotiations, rather than through war.

Unfortunately, there is, apparently, a tumultuous river of blood-lust running through the veins of the American Deep State, and a deeply held conviction that killing is always the preferred way of resolving disputes, rather than negotiating. In the minds of the members of the Deed State, slaughter is potent; it creates death and fear.

And it doesn't seem to matter which party is in power; the US government's enthusiastic participation in war crimes remains the same.

The Saudi war crimes in Yemen are atrocious and unspeakable, yet the US government continues to sell the bombers, and the bombs, for this genocide, and provide guidance for the bombing runs. Additionally, because Saudi forces have closed Yemeni ports, the Yemeni people, particularly the children, are starving to death.

This is what the US complicity in Saudi war crimes has "accomplished" for the Yemeni people:

Images: wounded and dying Yemeni children from Saudi bombing strikes

Images: Yemeni children starving to death because of Saudi port blockades

The images you are seeing are real; this is the unspeakably ugly face of this country we are projecting abroad, through these horrific wars, and the US government's complicity in war crimes.

I would like to think my brother and sister Americans have not been so sedated by social media, coupled with drugs and a completely dumbed-down education, that they cannot see what is happening, and in the most peaceful way possible, tell the US government that these wars must stop.

The Utter Hypocrisy of the Government in the Bundy Ranch Trial

The utter hypocrisy that is being demonstrated in the Bundy Ranch trial by those who swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution from both foreign and domestic enemies is quite telling as to the level of corruption we are seeing in our land today. Furthermore, it is demonstrating that many of those who have taken that oath not only don’t know what the Constitution says, but also have become the very domestic enemies they proclaim to oppose because of their ignorance.
“In a shocking statement made outside the earshot of the Jury this past Friday, Navarro said that she has no obligation to allow the defense to call the former Special Agent in Charge of the Bundy cattle impoundment to the stand for the purpose of impeaching his testimony to the grand jury.”

Mike Krieger: "Forget Russia, Donald Trump Works For Wall Street"

The evidence is overwhelming and indisputable at this point. Donald Trump is a phony, who has given his administration over to Wall Street crooks even more enthusiastically than his predecessors, and his predecessors were very enthusiastic.

I’ve written about this many times, and I warned throughout the campaign that my biggest fear was Trump is far too cozy with the finance industry, fake populist statements aside. His latest hire for the number two position at the Treasury Department once again proves the point.

The Crumbling American Superpower

A Wall Street-driven agenda of globalization of US manufacturing and out-sourcing of production has left America a hollowed-out, crumbling Superpower. Since the 1980’s the United States has significantly under-invested in both new infrastructure and in renewing old. As US multinational corporations moved their factories overseas to cheap labor production in Mexico, then in Asia, especially China, and elsewhere, they found tax loopholes that allowed them to walk away from supporting the country that as recently as the 1960’s was the world industrial economic leading nation. Today US corporations hold $2.4 trillion in overseas profits that they keep abroad to avoid US taxes.

The result of all this neglect is that over the past three decades since the end of the 1980s, federal funding of major infrastructure projects such as dams has dropped by half, from 1 percent to 0.5 percent of GDP.

Rex Tillerson Rejects Talks With North Korea on Nuclear Program

Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson ruled out on Friday opening any negotiation with North Korea to freeze its nuclear and missile programs and said for the first time that the Trump administration might be forced to take pre-emptive action “if they elevate the threat of their weapons program” to an unacceptable level.

Mr. Tillerson’s comments in Seoul, a day before he travels to Beijing to meet Chinese leaders, explicitly rejected any return to the bargaining table in an effort to buy time by halting North Korea’s accelerating testing program. The country’s leader, Kim Jong-un, said on New Year’s Day that North Korea was in the “final stage” of preparation for the first launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile that could reach the United States.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ruling out any negotiations before the DPRK stopped their nuclear weapons development program was a non-starter, because Kim Jung Un sees these weapons as a deterrent against Western aggression; Tillerson had to know that.

I also noticed that there were no real public statements from Tillerson after he met with South Korean dignitaries; I have to wonder if Tillerson actually got what he came for, which I believe, would have been the proverbial "blank check" for permission for an overt attack against North Korea.

I will be very interested to see what Tillerson's and Chinese officials' comments will be after the meeting in Beijing.

Playing Refugee Roulette': EU-Turkey Migrant Deal Verges on Collapse

The 2016 refugee agreement between the European Union and Turkey, which the EU alleges has helped avert a migration crisis, is teetering on the brink - several damning reports on the damaging humanitarian impact of the deal have added further fuel to the growing inferno engulfing diplomatic relations between Ankara and Brussels.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (File)

Why Erdogan is Likely to Put His Threat Into Action and Rip Refugee Deal Up
The deal was inked in March 2016, and obliged Turkey to stop the passage of undocumented migrants arriving in the EU through its territory, in exchange for the EU accommodating Syrian refugees in Turkey, on a one-for-one basis. In return, the EU pledged to introduce a visa-free regime and provide financial aid to Turkey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is about to get singularly unpleasant in a heartbeat.

Europe can barely cope with the refugees it is already trying to absorb, who have had no education or language skills of their adoptive countries, and cannot find work, except for the most menial, which they take away from European nationals.

This will not end well, and unfortunately, we may see a call to arms by many nationals who feel that they have been completely marginalised, and their quality of life diminished intensely by this flood of refugees.

And unlike Holland, where I strongly suspect that there was intense vote-rigging deployed to keep Wilders out of office, there won't be enough vote riggers and electronic systems which can possibly squelch the rage of these people who feel they have been betrayed by their governments to have let this happen.

As Venezuelan "Bread War" Escalates, Maduro Warns Bakers "You Will Pay, I Swear"

With its people resorting to eating flamingos, the Venezuelan government has decided to find yet another thing to blame for the collapse of the socialist utopia - the bakers!

As The BBC reports, the Venezuelan government says it will expropriate bakeries which fail to abide by new government regulations aimed at tackling bread shortages.

In a growing row between the government and bakers, officials said that bakeries could face fines if people had to queue to get their bread. Severe shortages of basic goods mean that Venezuelans often have to queue for hours to buy essential items.

The government says the shortages are caused by an "economic war".

Venezuela does not produce wheat and relies on imports bought in by the government which it then sends to mills where it is ground and then distributed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is desperation on the cusp of madness by the Maduro government.

But please remember: US sanctions against the country have been significant in creating the turmoil in which we find Venezuela today.

And just this last February, the Trump administration sanctioned Venezuela again:

The Trump administration announced sanctions against Venezuela’s vice president on Monday, calling him a drug “kingpin” in its first moves against the country’s leftist government, which President Trump railed against during his campaign. Vice President Tareck El Aissami, according to a Treasury Department statement, was being sanctioned for “playing a significant role in international narcotics trafficking.” The sanctions mean that Mr. El Aissami, 42, will be blocked from financial dealings with Americans and will have any American assets frozen. Such actions against officials in the government of President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela are nothing new in a long and fraught relationship between Washington and Caracas. But the accusation that Mr. El Aissami, the next in line for the presidency, is a drug trafficker is certain to set a new, more hostile tone in relations. “This can be seen as the opening salvo of the Trump administration in dealing with Latin America’s deepest crisis,” said Michael Shifter, the president of the Inter-American Dialogue, a policy group in Washington. “It is hard to imagine that, with this decision, Washington will now be inclined to offer many carrots to the increasingly authoritarian regime.” Since taking office, Mr. Trump has come under increasing pressure by Republicans and some Democrats to take a tougher stance on Venezuela, which has suffered an economic collapse punctuated by food and medicine shortages and soaring crime, even as its government has taken a harsher stance against dissent.

And I have to ask; is this simply a political smear to cast doubts on the ethics and credibility of the 2nd in line for the presidency, should Maduro be forced to step down, or is there actual, verifiable proof on these charges?!?

And President Trump, a word here, please: the American people are looking for verifiable truth these days, rather than hatchet-job accusations.

New York Assemblyman Unveils Bill To Suppress Non-Government-Approved Free Speech

In a bill aimed at securing a "right to be forgotten," introduced by Assemblyman David I. Weprin and (as Senate Bill 4561 by state Sen. Tony Avella), liberal New York politicians would require people to remove ‘inaccurate,’ ‘irrelevant,’ ‘inadequate’ or ‘excessive’ statements about others...

Within 30 days of a ”request from an individual,”

“all search engines and online speakers] shall remove … content about such individual, and links or indexes to any of the same, that is ‘inaccurate’, ‘irrelevant’, ‘inadequate’ or ‘excessive,’ ”
“and without replacing such removed … content with any disclaimer [or] takedown notice.”
“ ‘[I]naccurate’, ‘irrelevant’, ‘inadequate’, or ‘excessive’ shall mean content,”

“which after a significant lapse in time from its first publication,”
“is no longer material to current public debate or discourse,”

Webmaster's Commentary:

And who, pray, is defining such statements as "‘inaccurate,’ ‘irrelevant,’ ‘inadequate’ or ‘excessive’ statements about others..."?!?!? Most likely, the people whose oxen got gored by statements that may have been factually accurate, but does not put them in a good light in pubic?!?

It appears, regrettably, that New York State Senators Weprin and Avella have never heard of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

Yes, free speech can be messy and ugly, and amplified by the tsunami effects of social medial, it can be downright nasty; but this bill reeks of censorship, and the criminalisation of facts, when facts don't fit the "agenda" of various lawmakers and corporate personages.

This legislation feels like a last step down a very Orwellian slippery slope.

The IRS Scandal, Day 1408: Why Won't The Media Cover It?

It has been nearly four years since the IRS admitted in May of 2013 to singling out and targeting conservative groups, especially tea party groups, for additional scrutiny, onerous paperwork, and even audits. The IRS’s abusive targeting, which lasted for years, was entirely motivated by political animus and caused untold — incalculable, even — devastation to conservatives and to conservative groups. ...

After meeting with, and speaking with, hundreds of local tea party organization members in 2013, I was convinced of three key points: 1) the IRS’s targeting scandal had had a profound impact on organizations’ abilities to attract new members, fundraise, and engage on important policy battles; 2) the chilling effect of the federal government’s actions was real, devastating, and impossible to calculate; and 3) the American public needed to know the full extent of the targeting scandal so we could ensure it would never happen again.

US Sends Attack Drones to South Korea Ahead of Simulated Invasion of North

The United States has announced it will send a wing of Grey Eagle attack drones to be permanently stationed in South Korea. Is this a part of a larger strategy?

Brian Becker invited Will Griffin, a member of the US-based task force Stop THAAD in Korea and US Militarism in Asia and & Pacific, to discuss the issue.
The Korean Peninsula has captured the world's attention of late. While North Korea launched a ballistic missile that is in theory capable of delivering a nuclear device, the president of South Korea, Park Geun-hye, was impeached over corruption allegations, leaving the nation in the state of disarray. Rex Tillerson: When It Comes To North Korea, All Options Are On The Table

A U.S. policy of strategic patience with North Korea has ended, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said in South Korea on Friday, adding that military action would be “on the table” if North Korea elevated the threat level.

Tillerson began his first Asian visit as secretary of state in Japan on Wednesday and will travel to China on Saturday with a main focus on finding a “new approach” on North Korea after what he described as two decades of failed efforts to denuclearize the insular nation.

“Let me be very clear: the policy of strategic patience has ended. We are exploring a new range of security and diplomatic measures. All options are on the table,” Tillerson told a news conference in Seoul.

U.S. ARMY LAUNCHES "JUNGLE WARFARE TRAINING" CAMP

The United States Army gave up its jungle training school in Panama in 1999 when the U.S. returned land there to the Panamanian government. A couple years later jungle training was all but phased out in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks as the Army focused money and manpower on preparing soldiers to fight in the mountainous desert terrains of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Now, surviving and fighting in tropical rainforests has once again recaptured the Army’s interest and sparked the launch of its first jungle training school in decades located some 30 miles inland from Hawaii's Waikiki Beach.

Mac Slavo: "On June 1st The Deep State Will Move To Overthrow Trump"

On Wednesday, March 15, 2017 the U.S. government once again hit its debt ceiling. In short, this means that until Congress raises the ceiling, the government will be unable to borrow more money. If you remember the last time this happened, there were weeks of posturing by Republicans and Democrats while some government services started shutting down. After much deliberation and negotiation the debt ceiling was eventually raised and collapse was avoided.

But this time around we may see a very different set of events play out. If it isn’t clear to you just yet, President Trump is under attack from all sides. Democrats, the media and even members of his own Party want to see him fail. But perhaps more importantly, it is the shadow operators known as “The Deep State” who may take this opportunity to lay the blame for decades of machinations at Trump’s feet.

Suspicious cellular activity in D.C. suggests monitoring of individuals' smartphones

As the discussion over wiretapping and foreign hacking still dominates the conversation in Washington, an unusually high amount of suspicious cell phone activity in the nation’s capital has caught the attention of the Department of Homeland Security, raising concerns that U.S. officials are being monitored by a foreign entity.

The issue was first reported in the Washington Free Beacon, but a source at telecom security firm ESD America confirmed the spike in suspicious activity to CBS News.

Based on the type of technology used, the source continued, it is likely that the suspicious activity was being conducted by a foreign nation.

The news comes the same week that two Democratic lawmakers wrote to Kelly saying they were “deeply concerned” about hacking vulnerabilities in U.S. cellular networks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In bombshell news, in the greatest leak in Wikileaks history, in the greatest leak in CIA history, a total of 8,761 documents has been released in a series that has been dubbed Vault 7. Even for seasoned conspiracy researchers, the documents are fascinating and horrible at the same time. It confirms the suspicions and knowledge of many investigators. Now we have the proof to substantiate our hunches and intuition. The CIA has been caught with its pants down: spying on its citizens, bypassing encryption to steal their messages, hacking into their electronic devices to listen on their conversations, using US consulates abroad to conduct spying operations, remotely hacking into vehicles (to perform undetectable assassinations) and much more.

AMERICAN CORPORATE MSM IS MERGED WITH CIA AND HAS BEEN SINCE THE 1950S

With the recent back and forth seemingly taking place between two different factions of the American Deep State and playing out before the entire country, a few alternative media outlets have begun to question whether or not certain mainstream media outlets are actually connected to the Deep State, most notably the CIA. With an unimaginable scale of disinformation being released and promoted throughout mainstream channels on a daily basis, all propagandizing the public to go along with the desired direction of the American establishment, few could assume otherwise. However, such connections between American mainstream outlets and the CIA are more than mere conjecture, they are well-known and have been documented for some time.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please remember this when the corporate presstitutes on television and radio are marching in lock step, advocating yet more wars, and yet more sacrifices of your children on the bloody pyre of manufactured hatred toward the designated enemy, to exhibit their courage, and honor, and "protect the American way of life", when what they are really protecting are the economic profits of the 1%

After all, war is one of the most financially lucrative businesses at all.

Financial institutions love war, because governments have to borrow - at interest - to keep those wars going.

NY BILL WOULD SUPPRESS NON-GOVT-APPROVED SPEECH…

Remember: There is no “right to be forgotten” in the abstract; no law can ensure that, and no law can be limited to that. Instead, the “right” this aims to protect is the power to suppress speech — the power to force people (on pain of financial ruin) to stop talking about other people, when some government body decides that they should stop.

NZ Customs boss to get 'unprecedented' powers to share Kiwis' private information, Privacy Commissioner John Edwards warns

Customs' chief executive will be handed "unprecedented" power to share New Zealanders' personal information under a law change that is totally unnecessary, the Privacy Commissioner has warned.

John Edwards strongly criticised the proposed powers when discussing legislation that will overhaul the laws covering the Customs Service.

"What you are seeing with this provision, in my view, is essentially an authority for a public official to override Parliamentary-given statutory rights, as in the Privacy Act."
Privacy Commissioner John Edwards

The new legislation has already attracted controversy over the issue of when officers should be able to demand access to electronic devices, which can contain huge amounts of personal information.

Did Obama Spy on Trump? Of course — Andrew P. Napolitano on how.

I hope the investigations of Trump’s allegation discover and reveal the truth — whatever it is. But the lesson here is terribly serious. We face the gravest threat to personal liberty since the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 proscribed criticism of the government. We have an unelected, unnamed, unaccountable elite group in the intelligence community manipulating the president at will and possessing intimate, detailed knowledge about all of us that it can reveal. We have statutes that have given the president unconstitutional powers that have apparently been used. And we have judges on secret courts facilitating all this as if the Constitution didn’t exist. For how much longer will we have freedom?

Greece: A Democracy In Crisis

The Greek people have just about reached the limits of their strength. The economic situation is tragic. Illegal immigration is out of control, criminality increases day by day. The political system is steeped in corruption and the media have stopped being the communication channel between citizens and the political system. The Greek media are functioning as the praetorian guard of the euro; they favor the massive admission of Muslim populations into Greece and they fiercely attack every voice that disagrees with them.

Bishop Ambrossios is urging people to revolt. He characterizes the illegal Muslim immigrants entering the country as conquerors. He also says that Christianity is under attack in Greece, while Islam is being daily reinforced. He says that Greek Orthodox churches are being desecrated, robbed and burned by Muslim immigrants while the state just sits by and looks on.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Greek people are in IMF debt slavery through no fault of their own; they were placed there, through a complex swindle by Goldman Sachs. As reported at the sandiegofreepress.com in May of 2015:

It all started when Goldman Sachs assisted Greece in lying their way into the Eurozone in the first place. They really didn’t qualify for admission but Goldman hid that small detail under a heap of trompe l’oeil, sleight of hand and financial shananigans that got past the critical eyes of the European ministers. They manufactured a highly questionable derivative scheme involving a currency swap that used artificially high exchange rates to conceal Greek debt. Goldman then turned around and hedged its bets by shorting Greek debt just as they had done with the mortgage crisis in the US. Predictably, these derivative bets went very wrong for the less sophisticated of the two players, namely, Greece. A 2.8 billion loan to Greece in 2001 became a 5.1 billion debt by 2005. In the US mortgage fiasco they packaged subprime loans in portfolios, after having loaned money to people with questionable ability to pay back the loans, and then bet that they would default. Goldman made tons of money that way. Now this operation on the part of Goldman should come as no surprise to those familiar with Goldman’s shenanigans leading up to the debt crisis of 2008 in which they packaged a bunch of mortgages that were designed to fail into collateralized debt obligations, sold them off to unsuspecting investors and then turned around and placed bets against them. Such a deal was the Abacus fund designed by John Paulson who made billions on it. The American government then bailed out the too big to fail Wall Street banks while leaving the underwater mortgagees to dangle from a fiscal rope. They did the same thing with Greece. They loaned Greece big bucks for its 2004 Olympic Games. Greece also borrowed a lot of money for its military. In retrospect it was foolish of Greece to borrow all this money. It never got a return on its investment from the Olympic games which it thought would encourage tourism. The Olympic site essentially became a heap of trash and rubble.

What the Greek government should do is declare the debt odious, wipe it off the books, as did Iceland, and throw the existing politicians and bankers who signed off on this monstrosity in jail, and NOT the Greek version of the US's "Club Fed".

At this point, the Greek people may well be ripe for revolution against a governmental body in bed with corporations and banksters, the members of which have absolutely no regard for the immense suffering they have caused the Greek people, through the imposition of extreme austerity.

And also, at zerohedge.com, we see the following, and very disturbing, article related to Greece:

Explosives Mailed To German Finance Minister Were Sent By Militant Greek Group

Unfortunately, until things get very much better for the Greeks and Greek economy, we may continue to see acts like this happen.

As a Christian Pacifist Activist, I can never advocate physical violence; but I can see why it sometimes happens.

The Impacts of Vaccines: Aluminum, Autoimmunity, Autism and Alzheimer’s

There are a number of whistle-blower experts (see below) who are trying to alert doctors, journalists and law-makers to the dangers of Big Pharma’s highly profitable over-vaccination business plan. These out-numbered and silenced whistle-blowers are stepping on some very big toes, namely huge multinational pharmaceutical corporations that have large numbers of clever lawyers, cunning front groups, well-paid lobbyists and control of what gets reported on the mainstream news. That combination can easily destroy the careers of honest altruistic researchers that threaten their financial bottom line – and they have – most dramatically and cruelly in the case of Dr Andrew Wakefield (watch one of his powerful talks on YouTube).

Webmaster's Commentary:

If you have not seen the film "Vaxxed", I encourage you to buy/rent it, and see it through to the end.

How the CDC "cherry picked" the data on vaccines, and covering up the data about potential danger to children, in the name of pharmaceutical profits, will leave you gobsmacked.

I am sharing our copy this Sunday with a friend at church, who has a precious toddler son I want to see grow up healthily, and make his mark in the world; I know that my friend is going to be very angry at what has been presented to him by his medical practitioner, in terms of the alleged "safety" of the vaccines his son has been given to date.

The Kagans Are Back; Wars to Follow

The Kagan family, America’s neoconservative aristocracy, has reemerged having recovered from the letdown over not gaining its expected influence from the election of Hillary Clinton and from its loss of official power at the start of the Trump presidency.

Back pontificating on prominent op-ed pages, the Family Kagan now is pushing for an expanded U.S. military invasion of Syria and baiting Republicans for not joining more enthusiastically in the anti-Russian witch hunt over Moscow’s alleged help in electing Donald Trump.

In a Washington Post op-ed on March 7, Robert Kagan, a co-founder of the Project for the New American Century and a key architect of the Iraq War, jabbed at Republicans for serving as “Russia’s accomplices after the fact” by not investigating more aggressively.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These are just the sort of people who should never, ever wield influence on this government, because they hawk war as the only possible solution to the US government's geopolitical problems, as if there is no such thing as moral, hard-won negotiations as a way to resolve these issues.

Judicial Watch Sues DOJ for Records Relating To Tarmac Meeting between then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton in June 2016

Judicial Watch announced today that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Justice for records related to the meeting held between then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2016 (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:17-cv-00421)).

Judicial Watch filed the lawsuit after the agency failed to respond to a June 29, 2016, FOIA request seeking:

All records and/or transcripts of a meeting held between Attorney General Loretta Lynch and former President Bill Clinton in June 2016.

TILLERSON THREATENS TO WITHDRAW US FROM UN HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL

The Trump Administration is reviewing membership in the UN Human Rights Council, and “considerable reform” within the organization would be necessary for the US to remain, according to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

In a letter addressed to organizations lobbying for continued US membership, obtained first by Foreign Policy magazine, Tillerson said the State Department would “continue to evaluate the effectiveness” of the body and its fixation on the State of Israel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I had, originally, hoped that the Trump administration would be a little more even-handed when it came to the Israeli government's consistent persecutions of Palestinians, including extrajudicial assassinations; the torture and jailing of children through which to enforce "confessions" to things which didn't actually happen; and unlimited time in jail before a Palestinian could be tried, and convicted.

I have to realize, understanding the full import of Tillerson's letter, that I was really, very badly mistaken that such an approach would be at all possible, under President Trump's watch.

TRUMP HAS CALLED THE AFGHAN WAR A “MESS.” HIS GENERALS WANT TO ESCALATE IT.

Afghanistan hardly got a look in during the election campaign. The decade-and-a-half-long war was mentioned only once in the three presidential debates — in the form of a passing reference by Hillary Clinton. Trump, however, might want to put down the golf clubs and start paying attention to the forgotten struggle against the Taliban, which was supposed to have formally ended in December 2014. His generals, backed by GOP hawks in Congress, want to drag it out for a few more years. Their unspoken mantra? When in doubt, double down.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These Generals, advocating for more troops in Afghanistan, need to very articulately spell out just what the hell they mean when they say “It is imperative that we see our mission through to success,”

How, after 16 long years, and all the blood and money spent, do they define "success" in Afghanistan, as there is, so far, no military metric after all this time by which this campaign, waged in a country which has long been called "the graveyard of empires", can be measured?!?

I would politely suggest to Congress to have them completely spell out how these additional troops would lead to any possible military "win", when previous troop surges have led to abject failures on the part of the NATO and US military, and with the Taliban even deeper in control of the country.

Oh, and Congress; a word, please.

Most Americans with more than one brain cell understand that the sensible thing to do is evacuate all US and NATO troops as quickly as would be safe to do, and negotiate with whatever government is left standing for the pipeline routes and the mineral rights.

After all, it was "Pipelineistan" which got us into this quagmire, courtesy of the Bush Administration, so many years ago. As reported at centurion2.wordpress.com in 2009:

Since the 2001 invasion and occupation of Afghanistan, the US has a military presence on China’s Western frontier, in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The U.S. is intent upon establishing permanent military bases in Afghanistan, which occupies a strategic position bordering on the former Soviet republics, China and Iran. Moreover, the US and NATO have also established since 1996, military ties with several former Soviet republics under GUUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Moldava). In the post 9/11 era, Washington has used the pretext of the “global war against terrorism” to further develop a U.S. military presence in GUUAM countries. Uzbekistan withdrew from GUUAM in 2002.(The organization is now referred to as GUAM). China has oil interests in Eurasia as well as in sub-Saharan Africa, which encroach upon Anglo-American oil interests. What is at stake is the geopolitical control over the Eurasian corridor. In March 1999, the U.S. Congress adopted the Silk Road Strategy Act, which defined America’s broad economic and strategic interests in a region extending from the Eastern Mediterranean to Central Asia. The Silk Road Strategy (SRS) outlines a framework for the development of America’s business empire along an extensive geographical corridor. The successful implementation of the SRS requires the concurrent “militarization” of the entire Eurasian corridor as a means to securing control over extensive oil and gas reserves, as well as “protecting” pipeline routes and trading corridors. This militarization is largely directed against China, Russia and Iran. Take a look at the maps above – then note how the army bases are in prime positions to protect the oil and gas pipelines. That is what this ‘war’ is about. The Afghanistan war is about securing the territory through which the oil and gas pipelines will have to pass through in order to ensure Russia, China and Iran are outmanouvered in the last great wars for the last of the global oil supplies on the planet.

And Congress, one has to wonder; how many of these generals, advocating for Troop Surge, have their collective portfolios invested in energy stocks, and the military/industrial complex?!?

I frankly think that the American people have the right to know!!

Serena Shim was killed two years ago on October 19, 2014, in Turkey while reporting on the intense battle for the Syrian border city of Kobani which was the focus of international media attention. She was 29 when she died.

The city of Kobani, which has one of Turkey’s major border crossings with Syria, because it was under threat of being completely captured by the Islamic State. House Intel Committee seeks names of Obama officials who requested 'unmasking' of Americans picked up on surveillance

The leaders of the House Intelligence Committee asked the three leaders of the intelligence community Wednesday about any time during the last seven months of the Obama administration whenever any of its agents and officials improperly named, or "unmasked," and disseminated the identities of American citizens picked up in intelligence collection.

Chairman Devin Nunes, R-California, and Ranking Member Rep. The letter they sent refers to the disclosure to the public that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn had several conversations with the Russian Ambassador.

ADL TO BUILD SILICON VALLEY CENTER TO MONITOR & FIGHT “CYBERHATE”

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has announced that it will build a “a state-of-the-art command center in Silicon Valley” to monitor and fight anything online that it determines is “hate.”

The ADL is known for attacking individuals who criticize Israel as allegedly “anti-Semitic.” Its website states: “ADL has always been a strong voice for Israel.”

Critics of the organization have noted that its fundraising strategy relies on finding “anti-Semitism” and charge that it often exaggerates this threat.

A former Israeli minister stated that Israel and its partisans often use the charge of anti-Semitism against those who speak discuss Israel’s oppression of Palestinians: “It’s a trick, we always use it.” The ADL was the initiator of hate crimes legislation in the United States, launching this campaign in 1981.

ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt announced the new center on March 12 at a music festival in Austin, Texas. Accompanying him was Texas Tribune Editor-in-Chief Evan Smith.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The ADL has always gone after any whisper of any logical criticism of the actions of the Israeli government; this center will simply give it the state of the art equipment with which to publicly crucify any individual - or organisation - which reasonably, and logically, criticises specific policies adopted by the Israeli government, like the deliberate targeting of Palestinian children in the 2014 Israeli attack, Operation Protective Edge.

As reported at the International Middle East Center in April of 2015:

A new report by Defense for Children International-Palestine, titled ‘Operation Protective Edge: A War Waged On Gaza’s Children’, has displayed documented events proving that that Israel deliberately murdered Palestinian children during its last offensive on the Gaza Strip, this past summer.According to the report, the number of children killed in the last summer offensive on Gaza hit 535, a majority of them under the age 12. Another 3,400 children were injured – over 1,000 maimed for life. They need vital medical care unavailable because of Israel’s lawless siege – ongoing aggression by any standard with full US-led Western support.

I am reasonably certain that after this report was released, the ADL went after this report with whatever geopolitical, electronic, and judicial tools they had to hand, even though the information presented was incontrovertible.

That's... precisely what the ADL does, and will continue to do, with the establishment of this center.

This report had nothing to do with "hate"; it had everything to do with logic, numbers, and statistics, and a continued Israeli serial genocide against Palestinian children.

And please remember: there are Israeli rabbis and public figures and institutions who advocate for the complete extermination of the Palestinian people:

Israel's former Chief Rabbi urges the genocide of Palestinians

"Genocide is permissible" muses Times of Israel, promptly retracts

And finally, in images you cannot unsee:

PREET BHARARA EXPLAINS WHY HE LET WALL STREET BANK EXECUTIVES AVOID PRISON

Recently dismissed U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, is suddenly being celebrated as an aggressive warrior in the fight against Wall Street corruption. Really? You could’ve fooled me. Perhaps I was in a coma when a string of big bank executives were arrested and sent to prison.

No, what actually happened is one of the most powerful attorneys in the nation came up with a mealy-mouthed, cowardly rationale for why he let these financial thieves off the hook.

Crain’s reports:

Bharara was nowhere to be found when it came to charging the top executives whose actions led to the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and AIG, and who made all manner of misleading statements to cover up how sick their firms were. Goldman Sachs executives sold institutional investors a mortgage-backed security that sales staffers described as “one shitty deal.” Where was Bharara when it mattered most?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Absoflippinglutely unbelievable.

I have to wonder if - and what - Bahara received as "incentives" for not prosecuting in these cases.

J’Accuse! John McCain Slams Rand Paul for ‘Working For Vladimir Putin’ (WATCH)

The international treaty, which would annex Montenegro into NATO’s sphere and incorporate the state into the United Nations, was met with objection in December from Paul as well as Mike Lee of Utah. International treaties require a two-thirds majority to pass.

McCain asked the president of the Senate for permission to call up a resolution for the US to ratify the agreement. "I object," Paul said, before promptly leaving the floor of the Senate.

"That is really remarkable, that a senator blocking a treaty that is supported by the overwhelming number, perhaps 98 – at least – of his colleagues would come to the floor and object and walk away," McCain said.

"The only conclusion you can draw when he walks away is he has no justification for his objection to having a small nation be part of NATO that is under assault from the Russians. So I repeat again, the senator from Kentucky is now working for Vladimir Putin."

AUSTRALIA BEGINS ANOTHER GUN CONFISCATION PROGRAM, BECAUSE IT DIDN’T WORK THE FIRST TIME

When the topic of gun control comes up, the left loves to cite Australia and their much touted gun buyback program. They view that nation’s gun control measures as the perfect way to peacefully remove firearms from society. But did Australia’s gun buyback program really work? Sure it reduced gun crime (though whether or not it reduced all violent crime is up for debate), but did it truly disarm Australia’s criminal class?

Clearly not, because the Australian government is about to engage in another gun confiscation scheme. The government is planning a new amnesty program in July that will last three months, which the NRA is calling “a tacit admission that criminals and scofflaws have had little trouble circumventing Australia’s National Firearms Agreement (NFA) and the government’s confiscation effort.”

Science Teacher May Be Disciplined for Urging Students Be Informed of Vaccination Risks

In March 2015, science teacher Timothy Sullivan approached public health nurses administering vaccines to high school students at his school in Waterford, Ontario, Canada and asked whether they had appropriately informed the students about the potential risks of the shots they were giving. He noted that the teenagers were required to give informed consent and the nurses, therefore, had the obligation to make sure they were fully informed.1

Mr. Sullivan also made the point that, “some of the components in the vaccines were deemed ‘toxic’ in his science lab.” The nurse allegedly answered that they alerted parents and teens about common vaccine risks like fever or soreness at the injection site and she claimed that “a screening tool allows nurses to assess if there are any underlying conditions that would trigger a more serious reaction among students” and added that “the risk of death from receiving a vaccine is so very, very rare.”1

Judge Napolitano Says British Intelligence Provided Obama Admin With Surveillance Data on Trump Tower Phone Conversations

In a startling segment on the Fox News program The First 100 Days, Judge Andrew Napolitano told viewers that there will be no paper trail linking President Obama to any surveillance of telephone calls in Trump Tower during the presidential transition period. (President Obama called it “wiretapping” even though no wires were involved.) The reason is that British intelligence had access to NSA surveillance data – which captures every phone call in the United States – and were able to provide such intelligence to President Obama without a FISA court warrant or any other paper trail that would expose an American intelligence agency that used the same NSA data. Click here to see the segment in which he explained the scheme, or watch it below:

China Initiative Wants To Help Trump's 2026 U.S.A. Vision; British Intelligence Wants To Impeach or Kill Him

Interesting considering the recent revelation that Obama had the Brits spying on Trump.

If the growing number of reports that Donald Trump and Xi Jinping will meet in Florida next month are true, the way is open for President Trump to collaborate with China's global growth and progress driver -- the so-called New Silk Road or Belt and Road Initiative -- as Barack Obama refused to do. The horizon goals Trump set out for America's "250th Anniversary" in 2026 -- peace with nations including our current "adversaries," a renewed modern economic infrastructure, "our footsteps on distant worlds" -- would then have far better prospect of being reached. Those goals are not on the leadership's agenda of either of the United States' warring political parties.

Obama administration spent $36MILLION trying to keep government records secret during its final year

Number of lawsuits filed by news organizations under the FOIA also surged..
Obama administration received a record 788,769 requests for files last year...
It also spent a record $478 million answering them...
An Obama spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment..

The Obama administration spent a record $36.2 million on legal costs in its last year in office in an attempt to keep government records secret.
For a second consecutive year, the administration set a record for the number of times federal employees said they couldn't find a single page of files that were requested under the Freedom of Information Act.
And it set records for the outright denial of access to files, refusing to quickly consider requests described as especially newsworthy, and forcing people to pay for records.

Sunshine Week 2017: The worst government transparency abuses

A thick fog is rolling in over Sunshine Week (March 12-18), the annual event when government transparency advocates raise awareness about the importance of access to public records. We are entering an age when officials at the highest levels seek to discredit critical reporting with “alternative facts,” “fake news” slurs, and selective access to press conferences—while making their own claims without providing much in the way to substantiate them.

Why do leftists and globalists hate tribalism so much?

Social divisions are absolutely rational and healthy, and there is nothing “evil” or totalitarian about organizing only with people that share your values. The real evil comes from those that would suppress our values in the name of “harmonization” — there is no such thing. Globalists and leftists argue for the adoption and toleration of all ideologies and principles as a means to peace, but what they really want in the end is the erasure of all the ideologies and principles they see as disagreeable in order to make way for their own.

Kim Jong-un threatens ‘MERCILESS’ attack on America in retaliation for South Korea drills

He said he would attack his Western enemies from “ground, air, sea and underwater” in a sabre-rattling statement released through state media.

The propaganda press agency KCNA indicated the blood-thirsty despot was becoming increasingly agitated by the joint military drills south of the border.

A statement attributed to Kim said: “If they infringe on the DPRK's sovereignty and dignity even a bit, its army will launch merciless ultra-precision strikes from ground, air, sea and underwater.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Here is where these threats break down; in the use of the words "ultra-precision strikes."

Unless the DPRK has been able to buy, or develop, some advanced guidance systems from rogue countries which are comfortable about ducking UN sanctions against such things, their guidance has generally been their proverbial Achilles' heel.

And threats like these are truly, geopolitically counter-productive, unless a country can actually back them up, but it is imminently possible that North Korea's guidance and nuclear capabilities have evolved to the point where they can do what they threaten. As reported today in http://www.theaustralian.com.au:

Imagine that instead of friendly, congenial New Zealand across the Tasman we had Kim’s North Korea firing nuclear capable missiles into the sea less than 200km from Sydney or Brisbane, and you get a sense of why Japan and South Korea consider North Korea an existential threat. Seoul has long been in range of North Korean’s short-range missiles and about 8000 artillery pieces that could devastate the South Korean capital within hours — not to mention the hundreds of thousands of North Korean troops likely to pour out of massive hidden tunnel systems along the demilitarised zone if hostilities, never formally ended following the 1953 Korean War, were to resume. But the recently acquired ability to arm these missiles with nuclear warheads means that Kim can destroy South Korea as a functioning society, since the south has no effective means of defending against them. Lacking a workable defensive missile shield of its own, it’s hardly surprising Seoul has turned to Washington for assistance by agreeing to host a THAAD battery on its soil, despite domestic resistance and the likely election of the dovish Moon Jae-in to replace the disgraced Park Geun-hye, whose impeachment was last week upheld by the constitutional court. Moon has already conceded it will be difficult to reverse the decision of the interim government to speed up the THAAD deployment. THAAD has been fiercely resisted by Beijing because the powerful X-band radar, which forms the heart of the system, can see thousands of kilometres into China from the outskirts of Seoul, allowing the US to potentially shoot down Chinese missiles, putting at risk China’s missile-centric military strategy in which it has invested billions of dollars. However, China’s threats of retribution are unlikely to delay or derail the planned THAAD deployment to South Korea, which is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of April. Japan and the US have an even bigger problem as the likeliest targets for Kim’s nukes. By launching four missiles simultaneously, Kim has demonstrated a previously unseen capacity to overwhelm Japan’s limited ballistic missile defence system with saturation attacks, threatening Tokyo and other major Japanese cities as well as the 54,000 US military personnel based in Japan and their 40,000 dependents.

I am absolutely not advocating for war with North Korea; that being said, at this moment, the US, China, and South Korea might have an opportunity to get North Korea back to the bargaining table, and replace the existing Armistice with a true peace deal, with the proviso that upon signing this treaty, North Korea would abandon its nuclear weapons program entirely.

In the Chinese language, the ideogram for "crisis" and "opportunity" is one and the same; I would like to hope that the US government understands that, but will not hold out a lot of hope right now.

Unfortunately, as things stand, with the THAAD units in South Korea being completed and operational at the end of April, I see a potential start to a military conflict happening at the beginning of May, unless some intelligent, moral, and hard-won negotiations are put into place to prevent this from happening.

IT’S OFFICIAL ~~ ISRAEL IS ON THE ROAD TO FASCISM

Police detained prominent left-wing activist Jeff Halper last Wednesday at the Ma’aleh Adumim settlement, for suspected incitement, saying they acted on a complaint he had “materials related to BDS” in his possession.

Halper, who moved to Israel from the United States in 1973, was picked up after leading a tour of foreigners to the E1 site across the road from the settlement and transported by police van to a nearby station then released without being placed under arrest.

Police officers photographed the posters and maps he was holding before freeing him. Halper denies handing out any material related to BDS during the tour, or even discussing the boycott movement.

Handing out such materials would not have been in violation of the law, even a 2011 anti-boycott law according to which a person or an organization calling for the boycott of Israel, including the settlements, can be sued by the boycott’s targets without them having to prove that they sustained any damage.

More than 1,500 children dead in two years of Yemen war: UN

The conflict in Yemen has killed nearly 7,700 people, including at least 1,564 children, since a Saudi-led coalition intervened on the government's side two years ago, UN agencies said Monday.

The UN children's agency UNICEF said that by March 10, at least 1,546 children were killed and 2,450 others maimed in Yemen.

Of those killed, 1,022 were boys and 478 were girls while 46 were of "unknown sex", UNICEF said in a statement.

During that same period 1,801 boys and 649 girls were wounded while 1,572 boys were recruited to serve as child soldiers, said UNICEF.

In March 2015, a Saudi-led Arab coalition mounted an air campaign in support of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi whose authority was being challenged by Shiite Huthi rebels.

The rebels overran the capital Sanaa in September 2014 forcing Hadi to seek first refuge in the southern city of Aden and then exile in Saudi Arabia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

For the last 2 years, the Saudi military have been committing war crimes in Yemen, which the US government has enabled by selling them the bombs, and providing guidance for their targeting; this makes the United States Government complicit in Saudi war crimes.

Additionally, the Saudi military has blockaded Yemen ports which makes it impossible to get desperately needed food aid into the country; consequently, Yemeni children are starving to death.

images: Yemeni children wounded and killed by Saudi bombing strikes

images: Yemeni children starving to death due to Saudi blockade of Yemeni ports

Of course, the US presstitute media will never show you these images, because it breaks the narrative that somehow, these Saudi war crimes, and the Saudi creation of genocide in Yemen, are done for a "good and noble cause", to get the Houthis out of the country.

But the real reasons for the Saudi invasion, and hoped for occupation, are far different, and include the following:

Riyadh's Dirty Secret: Saudi Arabia Thirsty for Yemeni Oil, Gas Reserves

And from the US government's perspective:

Yemen : US Naval Base on Occupied Socotra Island

As stated in the following article from globalresearch.ca:

The Yemeni archipelago of Socotra in the Indian Ocean is located some 80 kilometres off the Horn of Africa and 380 kilometres South of the Yemeni coastline. The islands of Socotra are a wildlife reserve recognized by (UNESCO), as a World Natural Heritage Site. Socotra is at the crossroads of the strategic naval waterways of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden (See map below). It is of crucial importance to the US military. Among Washington’s strategic objectives is the militarization of major sea ways. This strategic waterway links the Mediterranean to South Asia and the Far East, through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. It is a major transit route for oil tankers. A large share of China’s industrial exports to Western Europe transits through this strategic waterway. Maritime trade from East and Southern Africa to Western Europe also transits within proximity of Socotra (Suqutra), through the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. (see map below). A military base in Socotra could be used to oversee the movement of vessels including war ships in an out of the Gulf of Aden. “The [Indian] Ocean is a major sea lane connecting the Middle East, East Asia and Africa with Europe and the Americas. It has four crucial access waterways facilitating international maritime trade, that is the Suez Canal in Egypt, Bab-el-Mandeb (bordering Djibouti and Yemen), Straits of Hormuz (bordering Iran and Oman), and Straits of Malacca (bordering Indonesia and Malaysia). These ‘chokepoints’ are critical to world oil trade as huge amounts of oil pass through them.”

Additionally, Socotra is as close as any military base could be to Diego Garcia, being about 1200 miles away.

This is why the US government doesn't want any talk about a political settlement between divided factions in Yemen; a united Yemen would want its island back, and the US government will simply not allow that to happen, so countless more Yemenis will have to die here.

Congress Created a Monster

Those of us who believe that the Constitution means what it says have been arguing since the late 1970s that congressional efforts to strengthen national security by weakening personal liberty are unconstitutional, un-American and ineffective. The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which Congress passed in the aftermath of President Richard Nixon's use of the CIA and the FBI to spy on his political opponents, has unleashed demons that now seem beyond the government's control and are more pervasive than anything Nixon could have dreamed of.

This realization came to a boiling point last weekend when President Donald Trump accused former President Barack Obama of monitoring his telephone calls during the 2016 presidential election campaign. Can a U.S. president legally spy on a political opponent or any other person in America without any suspicion, probable cause or warrant from a judge? In a word, yes.

Rand Paul Is Right: NSA Routinely Monitors Americans’ Communications Without Warrants

ON SUNDAY’S Face the Nation, Sen. Rand Paul was asked about President Trump’s accusation that President Obama ordered the NSA to wiretap his calls. The Kentucky senator expressed skepticism about the mechanics of Trump’s specific charge, saying: “I doubt that Trump was a target directly of any kind of eavesdropping.” But he then made a broader and more crucial point about how the U.S. government spies on Americans’ communications — a point that is deliberately obscured and concealed by U.S. government defenders.

Paul explained how the NSA routinely and deliberately spies on Americans’ communications — listens to their calls and reads their emails — without a judicial warrant of any kind:

More Mideast Madness as Trump Prepares to March

We are now moving rapidly into stage II of Levantine Madness as the US boosts its intervention in the war-torn Mideast.

Five thousand US troops are back in Iraq to bolster the shattered nation’s puppet regime that is propped up by American bayonets. New Iraqi military formations have been formed, totally equipped with modern US M1 Abrams tanks, Humvees, and fleets of trucks. More US forces are on the way.

As if this witch’s brew was not sufficiently toxic, US and Russian aircraft and Special Forces are brushing up against one another in Syria. At the same time, the US Navy in the nearby Persian Gulf is provoking the Iranians to please President Donald Trump who seems determined to have war with Iran.

The US Navy is now threatening to impose a naval blockade on war-torn Yemen, another joint US-Saudi warfare enterprise that has gone terribly wrong.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am deeply concerned about the lousy quality of counsel, and information, President Trump is getting regarding the US military presence in the Middle East, and Afghanistan, and how things in the countries in which we are fighting are getting worse, and not better at all.

IF the leadership of both NATO and and the US government had a shred of sense regarding Afghanistan, they would have their troops exit this country as quickly as was safe, and negotiate with whatever government remained standing in Kabul for the pipeline routes, and the rights to the amazing level of mineral deposits Afghanistan possesses.

Of course... THAT would be logical.

State Legislator in Illinois Introduces Gun Confiscation Bill

Now, in the state of Illinois, where violent crime is skyrocketing in Chicago, politicians are considering a Democrat-backed bill which would allow for gun confiscation, as long as any family member or law enforcement official asks for it to happen.

If the cops believe you’re a danger to yourself, they can take your gun away. Never mind all the thousands of criminals in Chicago who are never giving up THEIR guns.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Report: Trump Gives CIA Permission To Perform Drone Strikes

President Donald Trump has given the Central Intelligence Agency new authority to conduct drone attacks against suspected militants, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing U.S. officials.

The move would be a change from the policy of former President Barack Obama’s administration of limiting the CIA’s paramilitary role, the newspaper reported.

The White House, the U.S. Department of Defense and the CIA did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Strikes by missile-armed Predator and Reaper drones against oversea targets began under former President George W. Bush and were expanded by Obama.

Critics of the targeted killing program question whether the strikes create more militants than they kill. They cite the spread of jihadist organizations and militant attacks throughout the world as evidence that targeted killings may be exacerbating the problem.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In a country which was engineered, legally, around the concept of due process, extrajudicial assassinations should have utterly no place in American war tactics, and work as marvelous tools of radicalization, inspiring aggrieved young men to seek the revenge of jihad.

These drone strikes are, very practically, a way to perpetuate wars, leaving utterly no chance for political solutions globally.

And given the "rogue agency" status, and capabilities, of the CIA, as witnessed by the Wickileaks "dump" of Vault 7 last week, I have to wonder; what will prevent the CIA from engaging in extrajudicial assassinations here in the US?!?

Unfortunately, the short answer is, not much!!

MONSANTO ATTEMPT TO BLOCK GLYPHOSATE FROM CALIFORNIA CANCER LIST TOSSED BY JUDGE

A California state court has dismissed a legal challenge by multinational agribusiness firm Monsanto that seeks to bar the state from adding glyphosate, the lead ingredient in the company’s Roundup herbicide, to a list of cancer-causing chemicals.

On March 10, Fresno County Superior Court Judge Kristi Culver Kapetan ruled against Monsanto’s challenge to a provision of Proposition 65, a California voter initiative passed in 1986 that requires the state’s governor to publicize a list of chemicals known to cause cancer.

The California Office of Environmental Health Health Hazard Assessment proposed to add glyphosate to the Proposition 65 list after the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified the chemical as a probable human carcinogen in 2015.

‘YOU’RE ERDOGAN’S HOSTAGE, CLOSE BORDERS,’ FAR-RIGHT POPULIST WILDERS TELLS DUTCH PM

The war of words between Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and far-right populist Geert Wilders exploded in a face to face debate on Monday as Wilders called on Rutte to close the Netherlands’ borders.

“You are being taken hostage by [Turkish President] Erdogan. Close the Dutch borders,” Wilders told his top rival, Rutte, during the 30-minute televised debate.

“That’s a totally fake solution,” Rutte retorted, hitting back at Wilders’ suggestion that the Dutch borders should be shut.

“You want Nexit, you want the Netherlands out of Europe. You know what it will cost… don’t do it,” he warned.

If the Netherlands were to leave the EU, it would be “the best thing that could happen to us,” Wilders argued.

Rutte responded that a “Nexit” would cost 1.5 million jobs and trigger “chaos.”

“What we have to do to protect our borders is not make agreements with people like Mr. Erdogan,” Wilders said, referring to the European Union’s migrant deal with Turkey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The palpable anger from many Europeans on the effects of unchecked immigration, resulting in many cases, in physical assaults on Europe's women, coupled with a vast lessening of the quality of their lives, may well result in both Wilders' electoral triumph in Holland, Le Pen's electoral victory in France.

The existing governments of these countries have earned the change-up, by not thinking the ultimate effects of such immigration through, as has Germany.

U.N. Accuses Turkey of Killing Hundreds of Kurds

Turkey’s military and police forces have killed hundreds of people during operations against Kurdish rebels in southeastern Turkey, the United Nations said on Friday in a report that listed summary killings, torture, rape and widespread destruction of property among an array of human rights abuses.

The report, by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, details how operations by the Turkish infantry, artillery, tanks and possibly aircraft drove up to half a million people from their homes over a 17-month period from July 2015 to the end of 2016.

Though the report is focused on the conduct of security forces in southeastern Turkey, the 25-page document underscores the deepening alarm of the United Nations over the measures ordered by Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, since a failed coup attempt last July.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, but what is the UN (and the US government) actually prepared to do about these war crimes?!?

My prediction is that, yet again, the UN will prove impotent, and thoroughly useless in stopping these war crimes in any way.

And one cannot help but notice the hypocrisy that, according to the US government, some war crimes are perfectly acceptable, such as the Saudi war crimes against Yemeni non-combatants, in the killing and maiming of Yemen's children, and the starving to death to of Yemen's children by the Saudi blockade of Yemen ports, meaning no food aid can get in at all.

Images: wounded and slaughtered Yemeni children from Saudi air strikes

Images of starving Yemeni children, courtesy of Saudi port blockades

The US government apparently has absolutely no moral qualms about being complicit to Saudi war crimes in Yemen, because it suits its geopolitical agenda; it will be interesting to see what the official Trump administration's response will be this UN charge about Turkish war crimes against the Kurds.

Oh, and did I mention that after the 2015 Saudi invasion of Yemen, the US began a massive construction on a US naval base on the Yemeni island of Socotra?!?

Yemen and The Militarization of Strategic Waterways

And as reported on 29 August 2015 at syria360.wordpress.com:

The US has invaded and occupied Yemen’s strategic Island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean and is now building up its biggest naval base there, media reports said. “Hundreds of workers from Asian countries have been deployed by the US navy to construct its biggest naval base on the island,” Arabic-language Al-Masyra TV quoted a Spanish-language newspaper as saying on Saturday. The Pentagon’s publicly disclosed military and security program for Yemen grew from $4.6 million in 2006 to $67 million last year. “That figure does not include covert, classified assistance that the United States has provided.” [1] In addition, “Under a new classified cooperation agreement, the U.S. would be able to fly cruise missiles, fighter jets or unmanned armed drones against targets in the country, but would remain publicly silent on its role in the airstrikes.” [2] On January 1 General David Petraeus, the chief of the Pentagon’s Central Command, in charge of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as operations in Yemen and Pakistan, was in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad and said of deepening military involvement in Yemen, “We have, it’s well known, about $70 million in security assistance last year. That will more than double this coming year.” [3]

I cannot precisely recall the headlines from 29 August, 2015; but I can, with a great deal of certainty, assure you that the invasion, occupation, and the building of this US military base in Socotra, was never mentioned by the corporate presstitutes and whorespondents in the US.

So, in 2016, the US government spent $140 million, give or take, in "security assistance" in Yemen? (read: construction of this military base).

This creates an ability of the US Navy to project power into the Gulf of Aden, and Indian ocean. And I would suggest that this, and not the Houthi rebellion which threw the Al-Hadi government out of power, is the "real reason" the US government is complicit in Saudi war crimes, by allowing them to buy the bombers from US companies, and providing "guidance" for their bombing runs.

In any reasonable political solution to the problems in Yemen (and most experts do agree that the ultimate resolution has to be political, rather than military here), the Yemeni government would want to claim these territories back from the United States; but the continued Saudi, US-enabled attacks simply assure that such a political solution can not possibly happen, until the completion of this US naval base is a "fait accompli".

So according to the US government's "logic", is why Yemenis continue to die of Saudi bombings, and starvation of their children.

China makes it illegal to insult ‘heroes and martyrs’ of its Communist Party

POLITICIANS introduced amendments to China's nascent civil code to make defaming “heroes and martyrs” of the ruling Communist Party a civil offence, as the leadership moves to strengthen its grasp on the history of the People's Republic.

One addition is the line: “Encroaching upon the name, portrait, reputation and honour of heroes and martyrs harms the public interest, and should bear civil liability.”

The deeds of revolutionary heroes and sacrifices of military martyrs are central to the Party's legitimacy, much of which is based on claims of great historic achievements, such as defeating Japan during the Second World War.

Academics who offer different interpretations of history which downplay the role of the Party and its heroes are labelled “historical nihilists”.

Malware expert says ‘fingerprint’ switch shows past attacks blamed on Russia, China are work of CIA

According to the leaked information, the CIA’s malware allows the intelligence agency to not only steal hacking techniques, but also to leave false “fingerprints” to make it appear as if others were responsible for the attack.

Speaking in a livestream on Thursday, Assange announced that WikiLeaks will give tech companies access to the methods used by the CIA in its hacking operations. “The technology is designed to be unaccountable, it’s designed to be untraceable, it’s designed to hide itself. It’s designed to throw off people looking to see where there are fingerprints that might demonstrate who authored that technology," Assange explained.

His latest book, Surviving Fedcoin: How to Protect Yourself (and Profit) from America’s Coming Currency Change, is a public bet that the U.S. government will issue its own bitcoin which Casey views as “the last arrow” in its money quiver.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And like the Federal Reserve Note, the Fedcoin will be LOANED into circulation at interest, to keep the debt-slave scam going!

SUPERSTAR REPORTER GOES PUBLIC WITH OBAMA'S CREEPY SPYING ON HER

Sharyl Attkisson shared with WND a detailed and harrowing description of what it was like to experience a reality straight out of Orwell: The reporter claims she was spied on by the Obama administration while investigating its scandals.

What tipped her off?

Imagine what it must be like to watch your computer turn itself on and off.

“That’s one visible sign I noticed over many months,” Attkisson told WND in an email interview.

“At the time, I suspected it was some sort of phishing program seeking my passwords and contacts, and was confident my computer had sufficient protections. I never suspected it was connected to an intrusion of my systems until sources and forensics told me that it was.”

She also watched a different computer that she used delete files by itself.

America’s two governments

There are two governments in America, the government you see and the government you don’t see. The government you see is the politicians and the courts. They are actors. Their job is to give the illusion that you have some input in the process of government; that the rule of law and the Constitution is in force.

WIKI-LIES (Cont...) It's the self-policing web encyclopaedia that has banned the Mail as a source. But as these deeply disturbing accounts reveal, its pages are littered with inaccuracies - and God help the victims who dare complain

An investigation by this paper has revealed how Wikipedia banned the Daily Mail as a source after just 53 out of its 30 million editors voted to do so. Their spurious argument was that the Mail could not be trusted to be accurate. But — as the internet’s inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee says online ‘fake news’ must be tackled — what about the accuracy of information on Wikipedia? Here, two writers describe their Kafkaesque experiences when they found their entries were littered with mistakes . . .

Webmaster's Commentary:

I myself had a similar experience with WikiPedia years ago. Someone put up an article about me that was frankly quite unflattering. Using the edit function I made one and only one change. I changed "Antisemite" to "critic of Israel's government" which is more accurate. When I check back the next day, my change had been undone and I found the article locked against editing! When I asked why I could not correct the article, WikiPedia declared that I, Michael Rivero, was not a recognized authority on the subject of "Michael Rivero." I went public, and the article was deleted, along with a similar unflattering article about whatreallyhappened.com. I have been an "unperson: at WikiPedia ever since! This was all going on at the same time WikiPedia articles about the Roman and Medieval warming periods were being re-written to make those events seem less significant and thus less of a threat to the human-caused global warming scam!

Illinois puts a price on fun in the water

Before heading down the river to inner tube, or hit up the lake to kayak or canoe, be sure you've paid the price. As of July 1st, in Illinois, you are now required to carry a $6 Water Use Sticker for all non-powered watercraft. Before this regulation, titling and registration were needed for things like kayaks and canoes. Those are no longer required.

Also, life jackets are now required for all non-powered watercraft, including inner tubes. Operators of tubes can be arrested for OWI.

CIA Stresses Loyalty to the AGENCY Over Loyalty to the Constitution

One of the things that most observers don’t understand is that the CIA will do anything – anything – to survive. All CIA officers are taught to lie. They lie all the time, about everything, to everybody. And they justify it by trying to convince themselves that they are doing it in the national interest, for national security. From my very first day in the CIA, it was drilled into me, as it is into every other employee, that “the primary mission is to protect the Agency.” That was the mantra.

How Rothschild Inc. Saved Donald Trump

In the early 1980’s Donald Trump was an up and coming real estate developer in New York. There was no connection between the Trump name and casinos or gambling. The obvious nature of the name Trump and its definition related to gambling and card games foretold of the massive empire which would develop in the coming years.

In 1987 Donald Trump purchased his first casino interests when he acquired 93% of the shares in Resorts International. Resorts International has a sordid history which began in the early 1950’s when it evolved from a CIA and Mossad front company which had been established for the purpose of money laundering the profits from drug trafficking, gambling, and other illegal activities.

MALWARE ATTACKS USED BY THE U.S. GOVERNMENT RETAIN POTENCY FOR MANY YEARS, NEW EVIDENCE INDICATES

Rand’s report is based on unprecedented access to a database of zero days from a company that sells them to governments and other customers on the “gray market.” The collection contains about 200 entries — about the same number of zero days some experts believe the government to have. Rand found that the exploits had an average lifespan of 6.9 years before the vulnerability each targeted was disclosed to the software maker to be fixed, or before the vendor made upgrades to the code that unwittingly eliminated the security hole.

Some of the exploits survived even longer than this. About 25 percent had a lifespan of a decade or longer. But another 25 percent survived less than 18 months before they were patched or rendered obsolete through software upgrades.

The Korean Crisis and the THAAD Missile Deployment: A Growing Tinderbox in the South

Objections to THAAD are not only coming from Pyongyang. Moscow and Beijing have both spoken up against the new missile system for reasons that are routinely ignored in US media discourse.

South Korea is hardly unprotected and alone. The United States already has 28,500 troops in South Korea. It also has F-16 fighter aircraft and A-10 bomber jets. South Korea’s military is also very well stocked, with F-35 Fighter Jets, Aegis Destroyers, and all kinds of military hardware purchased from the United States.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This implementation of the THAAD system in South Korea is being constructed there for one reason, and one reason only; preparations for war against North Korea.

What President Trump could do to ratchet down the tensions here, would be to engage China to bring back North Korea to the bargaining table with the upcoming new South Korean President and government, and the US in order to hammer out an actual peace treaty to replace the armistice, with guarantees of free movement for North Korean goods, in exchange for North Korea's ending of it's nuclear weapons program.

Of course, that...would be logical.

THE DARK INTELLIGENCE STATE AND THE JUDICIARY

Years ago, I had the occasion to meet a former NSA/CIA contractor, Dennis Montgomery, who was then serving as a consultant for Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County in Arizona. Montgomery revealed to me, as he had to Arpaio’s investigators, that these intelligence agencies, then run primarily by James Clapper, the former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and John Brennan, the former director of the CIA, had been for years “harvesting” the confidential information of scores of prominent Americans, such as the chief justice of the Supreme Court, other justices, 156 judges, prominent businessmen such as Donald Trump, and even me. Indeed, anyone who was in the public eye or an activist was within the sights of the intelligence agencies.

‘Bomb the Sh*t Out Of Them!’ – Trump Drones Yemen More in One Week Than Obama in a Year

But although the US escalation in Yemen is sold back home as another aggressive front in the war against al-Qaeda, in fact US operations in Yemen are actually helping al-Qaeda as well as its chief sponsor, Saudi Arabia.

The problem is that because his advisors are increasingly drawn from the neocon camp, the advice he is given is filtered through the “noble lie” that the neocons view as the central tenet of their faith. Thus even though the main enemies of al-Qaeda in Yemen are the Houthis, because Trump has been sold the neocon lie that the Houthis are Iranian proxies Trump is droning Yemen back to the stone age to the advantage of al-Qaeda and Saudi Arabia, who are on the same side.

While it is arguable that the President has authority under the authorization for the use of military force against those attacked us on 9/11 to attack al-Qaeda in Yemen, very few would argue that such authorization extends to actually helping al-Qaeda in Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The only hope of a cessation of hostilities here is political rather than military, and I am appalled at the poor quality of advice President Trump is getting on the issue of Yemen.

President Trump needs to be reminded that, by selling Saudi Arabia the bombs with which to kill and maim non-combatants, plus supporting the Saudi's not allowing food aid to reach children who are, literally, starving to death from malnutrition, he is continuing to put the US government in the position of being complicit in war crimes.

Here's what Yemen looks like right now:

images: wounded and killed Yemeni children, from Saudi bombing raids

images: Yemeni children starving to death, courtesy of Saudi port blockade

And if these images make you uncomfortable, and angry, good! That means you haven't forgotten what it is to be moral and compassionate.

But if there was ever a time to have a national discussion about this war none of the presstitutes in corporate media will touch, because it's geopolitical kryptonite, now, my dear Rivero's Rangers, is the time.

Talk to, and email these images to, your alleged representatives in Congress, and tell them that this war has to stop, and right the hell now. And get on the phones to every presstitute, warmongering media outlet you can and ask them point blank: why do you refuse to cover this story?!?

The Trump Administration's Human-Rights Dilemma

President Donald Trump has demonstrated little interest in promoting human rights abroad. He was a dealmaker, focused on achieving concrete economic and security ends. Worrying about whether other peoples can, say, protest against their government doesn’t seem to concern him.

Ultimately, a foreign policy is sustainable only if it advances the interests of the people expected to pay and die for it. Protecting America—its population, territory, economic prosperity and constitutional liberties—is the government’s most important duty.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t bar Washington from attempting to advance human liberty in ways consistent with its larger responsibilities. Simply talking about the importance of governments respecting human life and dignity can help.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is a Biblical injunction about "reaping what you sow"; in the Middle East, by NOT emphasizing human rights, the US government is reaping a whirlwind of anti-US sentiment.

By supporting governments, militarily and financially, like Saudi Arabia; Bahrain; Egypt; and Turkey, which are suppressing their own people, the US government is setting the stage for deep radicalisation, if not revolution in those places.

Suppression only works so long, and then, BANG! You've got a coup on your hands, and an ensuing government which has a long memory for how the US government's support of former oppressive leaders destroyed life and limb.

Look at Iran's hatred for the US government, which the US government very much earned by overthrowing the duly elected President Mossadegh in 1953 in a CIA-orchestrated coup, replacing him with the Shaw of Iran.

The Shah's intelligence arm, the Savak, (which routinely tortured and imprisoned Iranians to keep his population always on the keening edge of fear) made the East German Stassi look like buttercups, in comparison.

So when the 1979 Iranian revolution happened, and the Shaw was booted out of the country, the US government was, as is usual, pathologically incapable of taking ANY responsibility whatsoever for creating the situation which caused the people to rebel against the tyranny of the Shaw, and condemned the Iranian people for having revolted against such a monster.

The US government has a deep, moral responsibility to encourage the observance of human rights; because when that does not happen, as the late President Kennedy Stated: "When peaceful revolution is impossible, violent revolution is inevitable."

Government employee retirement funds are NOT funded by ‘investments’: Wall Street fees are twice the net income of fund contributions, taxpayers pay 95% of costs, net returns average less than 1%. Solutions are monetary reform, public banking: 22-minute v

*hyperlinks/videos live at source*

Among the game-changing “fake news” We the People are told by “leaders” in government and corporate media is that government employee retirement contributions placed into investment funds pay for retirees’ benefits.

Let’s summarize the data of California’s 2011 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR; the last time I looked) and what it means for the state’s 12 million households:

Officials and corporate media never remind taxpayers, but California holds $600 billion in taxpayer cash and investments ($50,000 non-disclosed assets per household).

California’s ~14,000 various government entities’ CAFRs have a sampled-data total estimate of $8 trillion in surplus taxpayer assets ($650,000 non-disclosed assets per household). For examples, page 63 of L.A. County’s 2011 CAFR shows $66 billion in cash and investments; City of L.A.'s CAFR page 58 shows $38 billion.

‘Bomb the Sh*t Out of Them!’ – Trump Drones Yemen More in One Week Than Obama in a Year

Undeterred by the disastrous commando raid on Yemen in the first days of his Administration, where plenty of civilians were killed but the target got away, President Donald Trump has escalated US military involvement in the tragic Yemen conflict to an unprecedented level. In fact as Foreign Policy reports, the US President has bombed Yemen more in the past week than President Obama (no peacenik) has bombed in a year.

U.S. Drone Strikes Have Gone Up 432% Since Trump Took Office

hen he was in office, former President Barack Obama earned the ire of anti-war activists for his expansion of Bush’s drone wars. The Nobel Peace Prize-winning head of state ordered ten times more drone strikes than the previous president, and estimates late in Obama’s presidency showed 49 out of 50 victims were civilians. In 2015, it was reported that up to 90% of drone casualties were not the intended targets.

Current President Donald Trump campaigned on a less interventionist foreign policy, claiming to be opposed to nation-building and misguided invasions. But less than two months into his presidency, Trump has expanded the drone strikes that plagued Obama’s “peaceful” presidency.

According to an analysis from Micah Zenko, an analyst with the Council on Foreign Relations, Trump has markedly increased U.S. drone strikes since taking office. Zenko, who reported earlier this year on the over 26,000 bombs Obama dropped in 2016, summarized the increase:

Trump Should Make a Deal With North Korea

President Donald Trump likes to be known for his deal-making, and now he has the opportunity to make deals that can impact world peace and security, not just real estate or other business deals for his profit. North Korea would be a great place to start.

Regardless of how one feels about any of those issues and Trump’s assertions, he now has a chance to do something Obama didn’t, which is to increase global and regional security by at least halting North Korea’s advances on nuclear weapons and ballistic missile technology.

The basic contours of what North Korea wants are well known, at least first steps, and it’s not rocket science. Not necessarily in this order, they are: a formal peace treaty to replace the supposedly temporary armistice at the end of the Korean War in 1953, direct talks with the United States, and relief from what it sees as a confrontational military posture by the US, South Korea and Japan, cessation of war games being the most obvious step.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a sane and reasonable approach to the issue of North Korea's nuclear weapons development program; I hope President Trump is at least open to the possibility.

Israeli Education Minister: Next Lebanon War Must Target Civilians

Israeli military officials have been saying for the last several years that it’s pretty clear Hezbollah doesn’t want another war with Israel, with the belief that Hezbollah is more focused on fighting against ISIS and al-Qaeda in Syria than on border skirmishes with Israel.

Still, the 2006 Israeli invasion of Lebanon was very popular on the far-right, and even though Israel was roundly criticized for the civilian toll of their invasion, many are eager to make clear that the next war, which they consider an inevitability, will involve even more deliberate targeting of Lebanese civilians.

That was the message of Education Minister Naftali Bennett today, and while it was couched as a response to Lebanon’s President recognizing that Hezbollah’s militia forces, which have been helping defend the border from ISIS and al-Qaeda raids, are “essential” to Lebanon’s defense.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, the deliberate targeting of non-combatant civilians in Lebanon, in a mass genocide, is Bennett's "Final Solution" for the people of Lebanon?!?

There are a few people in history who would absolutely have LOVED this guy!!!

BURNING BOOKS IN THE 21st CENTURY

Hundreds of important books on the Holocaust by revisionist scholars have suddenly been been banned by Amazon on instructions from angry rabbis in Israel (see video at the end of this article) and from Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem.

Even books not directly relating to the Holocaust, but pertaining to Jewish affairs during WWII, have been included in the mass ban. Revisionist scholar Germar Rudolf has given a complete list of these books (see below) and it’s highly likely more volumes will be added to this growing list of “forbidden books” in the days ahead.

THOUSANDS OF US TROOPS HEAD TO KUWAIT TO FIGHT IN SYRIA, IRAQ

Instead of directly deploying thousands of additional ground troops into Iraq or Syria, the sort of precipitous escalation that might get Congress voting on the war, the Trump Administration appears to have decided that the solution is to send thousands of US ground troops to Kuwait, and let the commanders in Iraq and Syria just take what they want.

Early reports of this strategy emerged Wednesday, when officials said there were considerations of sending around 1,000 troops into Kuwait for this operation. Just two days later, the figure was up to at least 2,500, with signs that it is continuing to grow all the time.

While President Obama was micromanaging the escalations, particularly in Iraq, where every couple of weeks another hundred or two troops would be sent, the Trump Administration appears to be throwing the troops into a big pile and leaving the deployments up to the commanders.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am having an industrial-strength, palm to forehead moment, upon reading this; I am profoundly disappointed at this turn of events.

The French have a saying; the more things change, the more they remain the same; I am deeply concerned that this is imminently true of the Trump Administration.

WIKILEAKS VAULT 7 RELEASE PAINTS A GRIM PICTURE FOR JOURNALISM

Wikileaks’ recent disclosure of the CIA’s hacking and surveillance capabilities highlights a frightening new reality for today’s journalists. Considering the CIA’s penchant for silencing and intimidating reporters and editors, journalists will have to overcome greater odds to protect the public’s right to know.

This threat is particularly concerning given that the U.S. government – particularly the CIA – has a documented penchant for silencing and intimidating journalists with whom they take issue. Encrypted messaging programs have been touted as a solution for journalistic privacy in the post-Snowden world. The messaging app Signal, in particular, has been endorsed by prominent journalists and even Snowden himself.

However, some journalists have noted that Signal and other similar apps do not necessarily protect those under targeted surveillance, a concerning fact given that journalists are more likely to be targeted than other members of the general public for surveillance.

Webmaster's Commentary:
