Nasrallah: Hezbollah in possession of precision rockets to Israel’s dismay

Hezbollah’s leader has warned Israel of a fate it “has never expected” if it chooses to wage a new war, reminding the regime that the Lebanese resistance movement is now in possession of precision rockets to Tel Aviv’s dismay.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah made the comments during a Thursday speech in Beirut to a large crowd of mourners marking Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein, the third Shia Imam.

He further said the balance of power in the region has changed in favor of the anti-Israel axis of resistance, and that the Tel Aviv regime has failed in all its attempts to prevent Lebanon’s Hezbollah from achieving precision rockets.

“No matter what you do to cut the route, the matter is over and the resistance possesses precision and non-precision rockets and weapons capabilities,” Nasrallah said.

Hezbollah Leader Claims Group Won't Pull Out of Syria After Idlib Settlement

On the heels of the latest Israeli airstrikes against targets in Syria, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah gave a televised address, primarily talking about the group’s role and future in Syria.

Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah has said the party’s powerful military wing will not be pulling out of Syria once the Russia-Turkey brokered Idlib agreement comes into effect, saying Damascus still wants their assistance.

"We will stay there (in Syria) even after the settlement in Idlib. Our presence there is linked to the need and the consent of the Syrian leadership," Nasrallah said in an address broadcast on Lebanese media on Wednesday.

Israeli Air Force commander to arrive in Moscow on Thursday to hand data on Il-20 crash

Israeli Air Force Commander Amikan Norkin will head to Moscow to hand over the information on the Ilyushin Il-20 warplane crash in Syria, Israel’s Defense Forces said on Wednesday.

"On Thursday morning, a delegation of Israel’s Defense Forces headed by Major General Amikan Norkin, the Air Force Commander, will head to Moscow after the downing of a Russian plane by a Syrian missile on Monday night," says the communique circulated by the military.

"The Air Force commander and the delegation will present data on the incident in all aspects, including preliminary information and main conclusions of the investigation," it says.

The Israeli delegation will inform Russia "of Iran’s ongoing attempts to supply Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement with strategic weapons and to gain a military foothold in Syria," the press service said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So it has become Israeli Air Force Commander Amikan Norkin's task to plead to Russian officials that none of the carnage and loss of life was their fault, but only the fault of Hezbollah, Iran, Lebanon, and Syria.

I almost feel sorry for the guy... but not quite!!! This is quintessential Israeli hubris, writ large, at its most ugly.

While the Russian government will most probably do this time is respond economically, with sanctions. But if Israel chooses to do this again with impunity, and because of US/Israeli defense commitments, this could lead to a shooting war between Israel and the US on one side, against Syria and Russia on the other.

Color me more than just a bit nervous on this possibility.

Israel "Expresses Sorrow" Over Russian Plane Downing, But Blames Assad And Iran For Incident

In a series of statements via the official Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Twitter account, Israel has said it "expresses sorrow" over the deaths of the 15 Russian crew members aboard a maritime surveillance plane that was shot down near the Syrian coastal city of Latakia Monday night.

While expressing regret towards the Russian loss of the aircraft and personnel, which was reportedly downed by mistake as Syrian anti-missile defense systems attempted to respond to a barrage of Israeli rockets and airstrikes from over the Mediterranean coastal area, Israel said that ultimately it is the Syrian military that's responsible.

Israel's statement begins by saying it "expresses sorrow for the death of the aircrew members” but that the government of Bashar Assad “whose military shot down the Russian plane,” is “fully responsible” for the incident. Israel also made mention of Iran and Hezbollah while assigning blame for the "unfortunate incident".

Dr. Erekat Remembers Sabra and Shatila

In press releases published yesterday, September 16, 2018, Dr. Saeeb Erekat said that the Sabra and Shatila Massacre is a reminder of Israel’s barbaric crimes.

Erekat added, according to the PNN, that the massacre of Sabra and Shatila is not only a reminder of the barbaric crimes committed against the Palestinian people. but, overall, it highlights the effects of the impunity granted to Israel and its officials by the international community.

The main responsibility of the massacre fell on Ariel Sharon, who was also responsible for many other war crimes committed against the people of Palestine. Sharon died without being held accountable, Erekat said.

Sep 18 08:38

HOLOCAUST AMNESIA

The 30th anniversary of the Sabra and Chatila massacre in Lebanon has passed with hardly any notice. Several hundred Palestinians were butchered by Israeli proxies in Lebanon on Sept. 16, 1982. Throughout July and August of that year, the Israeli air force, under the command of Ariel Sharon, carpet-bombed clearly marked civilian centers in the city of Beirut, including nursing homes, hospitals and apartment blocks. In August of 1982 the attacks escalated to terror bombing of downtown Beirut in a true holocaust (death by fire).

The Israelis commit war crimes and atrocities with impunity. They know that after the initial editorial outrage, their mass murder will never form part of a permanent collective ritual of commemoration similar to the eternal remembrance and teaching of the Nazi persecution of Judaic people under the rubric “the Holocaust.”

Iran WARNING: US tells airlines not to fly through airspace as WW3 fears rise

The advisory also warns military activities linked to the bloody conflict in Syria have been ramped across Iran's airspace.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington are running high following Donald Trump’s controversial decision to pull out of the landmark Iran nuclear deal re-introduce economic sanctions last month.

Flight Service Bureau, which provides safety information on airspace to airlines, said "without seeming alarmist", the deteriorating relationship between the US and Iran must be taken into account when planning flights in Iran's airspace.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is getting just about as serious as is a heart attack: I find myself very alarmed at these developments.

Israel completes 11 km of border wall with Lebanon

The Israeli military has so far completed the construction of 11 kilometers of a 130-kilometer-long border wall with Lebanon, a construction project Beirut has condemned for violating its sovereignty.

The nine-meter-high wall will extend from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the area around Mount Hermon in the east, according to Israeli military officials. It is expected to cost 1.7 billion shekels ($473 million).

The wall will be equipped with sensors, surveillance cameras, information collection centers and warning systems.

Amputee Australian-Lebanese ringleader of plot to blow up an Etihad flight from Sydney to Abu Dhabi is being held in a secret US jail in Iraq

An alleged Islamic State commander who is accused of planning to blow up a plane last year is being held by American forces at a secret military base in Iraq.

As the alleged ringleader of the plot, Tarek Khayat, is accused of conspiring with his three Lebanese-Australian brothers to blow up an Etihad Airways flight as it left Sydney on July 15 last year.

News Corp has investigated into the whereabouts of Khayat, whose family gave him up following their arrests in Australia.

The investigation found that the alleged ringleader has been secretly held in isolation by American military forces at an unnamed base.

Since being there, they have interrogated him in regards to his role as a commander of an Islamic State unit that plotted attacks in the west.

News Corp claim that Khayat has been intensely interrogated by the soldiers, and has since lost a leg, is suffering from lung cancer, and has given up names of foreign fighters and Islamic State members.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: this man has been tortured to the point where he will say ANYTHING in order to get the torture to stop, and these "confessions" may be used as the "justification" for a coming US/Israeli war against Lebanon as well, to insure "regime change" here also, to insure access to Lebanese oil, and that Israel will have full access to the Litani River, which is just 5 kilometers away from the "boundary-fluid" Israeli border.

Again, I would like to politely point out that when the US military tortures, or outsources torture, this makes a complete mockery of our alleged reverence for the rule of law, humanitarian treatment of prisoners, and gives countries which don't particularly like the US, carte blanche to do the same to American citizens or military personnel.

Please chew on that last bit for a while, if you think that torture is ever justified.

Also, remember the German genius of interrogation of US and British prisoners during World War II; the guy's name was Hanns Scharff,The Story of Hanns Scharff and he got the information he needed through kindness and interest, never hurting anybody. In fact, he was so revered because of his humanitarian care of the prisoners under his watch, that he was invited by the US military to teach his interrogation techniques to American interrogators.

Israel Sees No Difference Between Lebanon, Hezbollah - Senior IDF Officer

A senior commander in the Israel Defense Forces told Haaretz Wednesday that as a consequence of “a stronger Hezbollah in Lebanese politics,” in future conflicts, Israel would make no distinction between Lebanese forces and those of Hezbollah’s militia.

"The distinction we made between Hezbollah and Lebanon during the Second Lebanon War was a mistake," said the official, who is the senior officer in the army's Northern Command near the Lebanese border, about the 2006 conflict. "In the next war we will not make this distinction. We will hit Lebanon and any infrastructure that would contribute to the fighting."

"If the choice is between pummeling Lebanon or making a distinction between Lebanon and Hezbollah, I'll take pummeling Lebanon," the officer added.

Intelligence Sources Accuse Iran Of Supplying Missiles To Hezbollah Via Civilian Airline

We previously detailed how after seven years of a the failed attempt at regime change in Syria, the next target is Hezbollah, itself a key player throughout the war in successfully defending Damascus.

Part of these efforts of the Western-Gulf military alliance will be to wage a powerful propaganda war, which appears to have already begun in earnest.

This week Israeli, Saudi, and US media sources have released multiple reports claiming Iran is now routinely smuggling weapons and missile manufacturing equiment into Lebanon through the use of civilian aircraft, in order to provide a steady resupply stream to Hezbollah.

The reports rely heavily on unnamed Western intelligence officials, who say that at least two recent flights have taken off between Tehran and Beirut that were observed "flying unusual routes".

Hezbollah: US proposal for Syria ‘meaningless’

Hezbollah and Iran must leave Syria for a lasting solution to the conflict to be reached, the US has said according to the deputy secretary-general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

Describing the conditions as “meaningless”, Naim Qassem said it must be the “victors” who place conditions, the US has been defeated in Syria and so cannot set conditions, he added.

Hezbollah and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad are now in the stage of “successive victories for Syria and its axis. We have lifted this black cloud, victories will continue, and we will achieve more,” he continued.

Qassem called on “all factions counting on America” to “reconsider” their relationship with the “Great Satan” that is not loyal to its friends.

Bin Salman's Advisors Propose Shifting War from Yemen to Lebanon

A secret diplomatic cable sent to influential parties in Lebanon disclosed the contents of a recent meeting in Riyadh, headed by bin Salman and attended by Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubair and Intelligence Chief Khaled al-Hamidan, the Arabic-language al-Akhbar reported on Monday.

During the meeting, the recent developments in Syria, including liberation of the Southern parts of the country by the army and Russia's cooperation with Damascus, as well as the results of the Yemen war went under discussion.

"Bin Salman's deputies proposed him to transfer the battle from Yemen to the internal scene in Lebanon. They said that after increasing economic pressures on Iran and Hezbollah to make them leave Syria, now it is good to transfer the battle from Yemen to Lebanon," al-Akhbar reported, implying that the offer included start of a proxy war on Lebanon.

Trump Administration Cuts $200 Million in Funding to Palestinians

State Department officials announced on Friday that over $200 million in frozen funding to the Palestinians in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip are being cut outright, with the funding to be diverted elsewhere.

Exactly where the $200 million is going isn’t clear, beyond officials saying it would be “spent in accordance with US national interests and provide value to the US taxpayer.” National security adviser John Bolton said the cut was “long overdue.”

This is the second redirection of foreign aid funds to be announced in the past week. Last Friday, the State Department announced $230 million in funding initially earmarked for reconstruction inside Syria had similarly been withdrawn, to be spent on other, unspecified priorities.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reason for this cutback is painfully clear; Netanyahu and Tel Aviv control the US agenda in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, not to mention the entirety of the US geopolitical agenda in the Middle East.

I, for one, am rather sick and tired of Israel controlling US foreign policy, to the point of ordering our American President and military to attack its alleged "existential threats" in the region, like Iran and Lebanon.

Unfortunately, however, such an attack is very likely this fall, particularly with Iran shortly after President Trump's "drop dead date", imposed by Trump on the rest of the world to stop buying Iranian oil, which happens on Sunday, 4 November; please remember that US mid-term elections happen in Tuesday, 6 November this year.

It is the timing of the impact of this Presidential edict, which, I believe, makes it very possible that we will see the start of such an attack either on the 4th or 5th of November, just ahead of the mid-terms.

There will be no Congressional approval, or debate, before this starts; AIPAC will insure that, with their generous contributions to both sides of the aisle, and we may well see a "blitzkrieg-style" US attack to blockade the Persian Gulf, and insure that Iranian oil cannot get routed through it at all.

New book gives credence to US ambassador’s claim that Israel tried to assassinate him in 1980

John Gunther Dean, now 92, and a former American ambassador to five countries, has long maintained that Israel was behind his attempted assassination on August 28, 1980, in a suburb of Beirut, which was attributed to a rightwing Lebanese group. Dean and his wife and daughter and son-in-law were in a motorcade and narrowly escaped serious injury.

Dean said that he was targeted because he was doing something regarded as antithetical to Israel’s interest: consulting with the Palestine Liberation Organization and its head, Yasser Arafat, at a time when such contacts were the third rail in US politics. He was also outspokenly critical of Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

"Step Back From The Brink" UN Warns As Major War Looms After Overnight Gaza Airstrikes

In the third serious flare-up of violence in the last month, a major escalation began between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza overnight, which involved approximately 180 projectiles fired towards Israeli territory, and more than 150 Israeli airstrikes on targets inside Gaza, according to statements by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Reports citing Israeli sources say of about 180 projectiles launched from Gaza overnight, the Iron Dome defense system intercepted over 30, while most hit open fields. However, official statements also noted strikes on playgrounds, houses, cars, and factories.

The BBC reports up to seven Israeli civilians wounded by the rocket and mortar fire, with Palestinian health officials confirming the death of a pregnant Palestinian woman and a toddler. The AFP identified the victims as 23-year old Enas Khammash and her 18-month-old daughter Bayan, killed in the Jafarawi area of central Gaza.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel wants this war, and it wants it now; Palestine is to be completely obliterated, and the formerly recognized Palestinians lands completely claimed by the settlers.

The problem facing Israel, is that it cannot control this war, and how far, or how rapidly it will spread.

It has the all the earmarks, right now, of a becoming a larger ranging regional war, with Israel, the US, Saudi Arabia, NATO on one side, and Iran, Russia, China, and Lebanon on the other.

I hope I am dreadfully wrong on this, but I think Israel believes that the timing is right for it to go in and kill as many Palestinians as is humanly possible.

Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, said yesterday that Israel’s persistent threats to Lebanon and the unstable conditions in the region call for an extension of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)’s mandate, the Lebanese presidency said in a statement.

According to the statement, Aoun made the remarks during a meeting with Italian Defence Minister, Elisabetta Trenta, in Beirut.

Aoun explained that these forces play an important role in maintaining security and stability along Lebanon’s southern border in cooperation with the Lebanese army.

Lebanese Paper: US Preparing to Withdraw from Syria

The Arabic-language al-Akhbar newspaper reported that during the process to extradite 8 Lebanese members of the ISIL terrorist group to Beirut, the Americans have sent a letter to the Lebanese army's intelligence department that said they are preparing to take the necessary measures to retreat their forces from Syria.

The report comes as the US has transferred hundreds of ISIL members to Afghanistan. ISIL has claimed responsibility of a majority of the terrorist operations conducted across Afghanistan, including some against the Taliban. Security officials of Russia, Iran, Afghanistan and a number of Central Asian states have voiced deep concerns over the increasing number of ISIL militants transferred from Syria by the US to Afghanistan.>>>

Lebanon, Palestine, and the controversial relationship between the ‘authority’ and ‘resistance’

The Lebanese and Palestinian experiences show the difficulty, if not impossibility, of combining the “authority” and the “resistance”. Each one of these “institutions”, so to speak, has its own different logic and tools. They each have their own incompatible, not to say “contradictory”, considerations and calculations, and the “best of both worlds” will find itself forced to abandon one in favour of the other. The experiences of history, both past and recent, indicate that authority is usually chosen at the expense of resistance.

Israeli “self-defense” against Palestinians is logically impossible

News media outlets frequently present outbreaks of large-scale violence in Palestine-Israel in terms of “Israel’s right to defend itself.” This narrative says that whatever Israel may be guilty of, the state is justified in using military force to respond to Palestinian attacks.

But such media narratives about Israel’s “right to defend itself” mislead readers by ignoring the permanent violence of Israel’s colonization of Palestine and the aggressive pursuit of ethnic supremacy that this colonization entails.

The Israeli state was founded by massacring and ethnically cleansing Palestinians. Since Israel was created, it has repeatedly massacred Palestinians and Arabs in other countries, particularly Lebanon.

Upon Israel’s request, Twitter closes Hamas, Hezbollah accounts

Twitter has closed a number of accounts belonging to Hamas and Hezbollah officials, the Israeli Ministry of Public Security and Strategic Affairs said yesterday.

According to Haaretz the move comes two weeks after Israeli Minister of Public Security and Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan sent a letter to Twitter’s CEO and executive chairman claiming the social media giant was “largely irresponsive to requests by the Israeli authorities to remove terrorist content and shut down terrorist accounts.”

He also said in his letter that “enabling terrorist organisations to operate freely and spread their messages via your platform may be a violation of existing Israeli laws regarding providing support to terrorist organisations.”

Despite all the intimidation, all the threats, all the blockades, (despite the inscriptions on the) lists of terrorist organizations, the (campaigns of) defamation, all these efforts (to weaken Hezbollah and diminish its popularity in Lebanon) have been in vain. Therefore, we have a community, a people who, prior to 2000, were worthy of victory, and that is why God granted us victory (on May 25, 2000), and He gave us the victory of 2006, and we remain, by the grace of God, the strongest and the most glorious, because we are worthy of it.

The situation over the northern town of Manbij has been rapidly developing since the US and Turkey endorsed a roadmap for the area.

IRAN BEGINS TO BUILD ADVANCED CENTRIFUGES

Iran has begun working on infrastructure for building advanced centrifuges at its Natanz facility, Ali Akbar Salehi, the director of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation said today.

Iran’s nuclear activities would remain within the framework of the 2015 nuclear agreement with world powers, Salehi said.

Salehi also said Iran had developed infrastructure to produce electricity at Natanz.

Last month, the US pulled out of what it referred to as the “defective” nuclear deal signed between the P5+1 states in 2015. The move has put the future of the deal at risk and left European leaders scrambling to ensure Iran complies with its terms and companies wondering if they should do business with Tehran as the US threatens to apply unilateral sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF the IAEA, which is still inspecting Iran's facilities, and is comprised of a bunch of very bright people, tells the world that this work complies with the P5+1 deal framework, I would tend to believe them.

Of course, the US, Saudia Arabia and Israel will scream that Iran is getting ready to produce nuclear weapons, even if this move is simply for developing additional energy resources, and use it as their "justification" for an attack against Iran.

Were I the heads of these countries, however, I would seriously want to explore what the Russian response would be, before beginning any such attack; historically, Russia has promised to support Iran militarily against any foreign attacker, and as we have seen in Syria, Russia's military capabilies are very formidable, at this point in its history.

IRAN LISTS 7 CONDITIONS TO REMAIN IN NUCLEAR DEAL

In his first statement since Pompeo's Wednesday speech, Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei set 7 conditions for the European nations if they want Tehran to remain in the agreement.

Khamenei laid out the full list on Twitter on Trump's favorite social media network, remainder of continued on twitter where in a brief tweetstorm, he unveiled the following demands of Europe:

Over the course of 2 years, US violated #JCPOA, several times, while the Europeans remained silent. These 3 European countries should prove that they won’t be as dishonest & untrustworthy as they were during nuclear talks in 2004-2005. Europe needs to compensate for it:
The US has violated Resolution 2231. Europe must issue a resolution against US’s violation [of it].
Europe must guarantee it will not raise the issue of the Islamic Republic's missiles and regional affairs.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation; Europe will not be allowed to acceed to Iran's demands by the US government, meaning that the Iranians will shortly go back to uranium enrichment, which will then be used as the "justification" for a war against it by the US, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.

But this will not happen until Israel uncorks in Lebanon against Hezbullah, and accomplishes "regime change" there, to achieve a more "Israeli-centric" government in Beirut.

So we have, maybe, a couple of months or more, before that happens, and then, the major world war against Iran happens. Look at the attack against Lebanon to come either right before, or right after, the High Holy days in Israel, Rosh Hashana, and Yom Kippur, which are celebrated in September of this year.

June 1st is already upon us week; So watch for 3 months of intense demonisation of Lebanon; Iran, and Russia in the next three months, leading up to an Israeli first strike on Lebanon.

But the big issue in all of this, with Russia having historically claimed that it will defend Iran should it be attacked militarily, is, when Iran is attacked, what will Russia's Putin actually be willing to do to defend it?!?

And lastly, here is a link to Ynetnews.com, with an article which is more than a little unsettling:

Israel’s Coming War Won’t Be Against Iran or Syria

Short of something catastrophic that completely upsets the current status quo, there are many signs that Israel and Iran are not headed for a direct confrontation in the immediate future. Though the mainstream media dishonestly advertises such a war, the truth is that Israel’s next war will not take place in Iran — or even Syria for that matter. It is far more likely to take place in Lebanon.

NETANYAHU ORDERS CABINET MEET IN SECRET UNDERGROUND BUNKER, FEARS LEAKS ON SYRIA AND IRAN

In yet another sign that broader war between Israel, Syria, and Iran may be on the horizon Israel’s Channel 10 has revealed in an exclusive broadcast that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently ordered all national security cabinet meetings to be held in a secure underground bunker in Jerusalem.

The National Security Cabinet (NSC), also known as the “inner cabinet,” is akin to the US National Security Council and convenes regularly under the authority of the prime minister in the Prime Minister’s building in Jerusalem. However, according to Channel 10’s Barak Ravid, who broke the story, Netanyahu made the decision out of fear of leaks related to “sensitive discussions on Syria and Iran.”

The underground secure Jerusalem bunker normally hosts the National Crisis Management Center, responsible for emergency planning and response during times of war or national crises.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder if the location of these meetings have been moved due to Netanyahu's determination to wage war against all three of these countries, with US military assistance, and quickly.

Public opinion in the US does not augur well for Israel doing this, so Netanyahu may well feel that Israel must move swiftly, to avoid a groundswell of US popular resistance to such actions.

BlogviewPatrick Cockburn Archive Uncritical Support from the US Will Do Israel More Damage Than Good

The Palestinian issue is back on the international agenda more than at any time over the last 15 years. If the move of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was intended to demonstrate that the Palestinians were powerless and there was nothing they could do about it, then it has failed.

The embassy move, signalling that the US has abandoned even its previous modest restraint on Israeli actions, had exactly the opposite effect to the one intended. The protesting Palestinians and not the celebrating Israelis and Americans became the central feature of the event. Television split screens showed what looked like a Trump campaign rally in Jerusalem side by side with Israeli soldiers shooting dead 62 Palestinians and wounding a further 1,360 in Gaza.

Israeli claims that they were defending the fence that surrounds Gaza from an attack by Hamas activists armed with stones and kites were contradicted both by the television pictures and the lack of any Israeli casualties.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Patrick Cockburn, whose work I greatly respect, misses one critical point in his equation; the Trump Presidency has absolutely outsourced his Middle East policy to Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu, and that creates an horrific danger for this country, the Middle East in general, and the world.

Please understand; Israel wants to see Lebanon, Syria, and Iran "neutralized, and to see regime change in all countries to create governments which are more Israel-centric. He also wants to see Hamas fail spectacularly in Gaza, and is doing everything within his power to accomplish that goal.

However, the caveat I would share here, is that he only wants this done at the costs of American blood and American money.

And then, there is the 6,000 lb gorilla, snoozing on the Bosendorfer grand, in the living room in the situations in Syria and Iran; that is the presence of Russia, which has pledged to prevent both the regimes in both countries from falling, if they are attacked militarily.

Tel Aviv would love nothing better than creating the climate for "Let Russia and the US fight it out in Syria and Iran." And what happens if such a war is a Pyrrhic victory for both sides?!?

Israel is then in position to control all the region's oil, and in what currency that oil will be sold.

Do not be deceived here; in terms of nation-to-nation "friendship", Israel is a true "frenemy", ready to instantly turn away, when the dead host, WarMerica, can no longer support its hubristic warmongering in the region.

And this is followed by a companion article, also from antiwar.com, which is more than a little eye-opening on the topic of the US government "never being able to do enough for Israel":

Israeli MPs Push Trump to Let Them Use Military Aid on Non-US Equipment

The article goes on to state:

"The $38 billion aid package is to be spent on US-made equipment. This has been a common way to make foreign aid politically safe, as it means that money is ultimately going to US arms makers who have a lot of influence.

Israeli officials, however, see this US armament as a problem for their economy. The Israeli Knesset Finance Committee is estimating that 22,000 Israeli jobs would be lost if the US doesn’t just send Israel the money straightaway and let them spending on Israeli-made arms."

Pentagon Threatens More Aggressive Stance Toward Iran

Following up on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s bellicose threats toward Iran, Pentagon officials suggested that moving against Iran would require a “whole government solution.” They pointed toward the Pentagon being more aggressive toward Iran in the future.

While officials were not specific about what the Pentagon would or even might do, they condemned Iran’s “malign influence” in the region. Some talked up freedom of navigation operations, which has long been a favored way for the US Navy to pick fights or escalate tensions with rivals.

Purely theoretically, the freedom of navigation exercise is just meant to prove that ships can safely transit certain waters. Though Iran has never impeded anyone’s ships passing around their sphere of influence, the US Navy has favored parking ships along Iran’s maritime borders, and occasionally hugging that border.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What alleged "malign influence" is the Pentagon talking about here, regarding Iran, please?!?

Just because Iranian advisors were not going to allow Syria to go down in flames, courtesy of a US/NATO cabal, supporting rebels in taking control of Damascus' government, and throwing Al Assad out, is this the reason for the Pentagon's ire against it?!?

Someone... has some 'spaining to do, as to the actual, and specific, activities Iran has really done, then honestly document them, if they think for one moment that they can lead the American people to a mindset of wanting war against the Iranians, who have done nothing negative, or wrong, to the people of the US. The people of this country are both war-weary, and war-skeptical, and more wars will be a lose for any candidate who supports more wars, before mid-term elections here in the US.

AN ISRAEL-IRAN WAR IS UNLIKELY TO HAPPEN ANY TIME SOON

Writing in the Asia Times earlier this month, David P. Goldman lamented that an Israel-Iran war is unlikely to take place any time soon. His observation appears surprising considering the mainstream media has been hyping up the idea of such a war over the past few months.

Nevertheless, he is correct.

As Goldman explained:

Webmaster's Commentary:

First, why in the name of heaven, is this man "lamenting" that it doesn't look like there will be war between Israel and Iran in the near term, but a war against Hezbullah in Lebanon is close to a dead moral certainty?!?

For intelligent people, any war is to be avoided if there is any other way to resolve geopolitical differences.

Apparently, when it comes to David Goldman's thinking, all wars bringing Israel closer to acheiving the "Erez Israel" model, should be pursued, and immediately.

Memo to Israel: Lebanon is not Hezbollah, Gaza is not Hamas

Israeli public relations efforts to turn attention away from inconvenient realities and distract public opinion rest in large part on promoting simplified, dumbed-down messages.

Those are easily parroted by complicit media outlets, think-tanks, pundits, and by some journalists who prefer the sensationalism of "Iranian mullahs", "Hezbollah plots" and "Hamas terrorists" to the more complicated dynamics of the region and individual countries. Of course, in some situations, this is a good way to avoid an uncomfortable discussion about apartheid and occupation for fear of being labelled anti-semitic.

One clear example of such dumbed-down messages is Israeli education minister Naftali Bennett's "Lebanon = Hezbollah" tweet after Lebanon's parliamentary elections on May 6. "Israel will not differentiate between the sovereign State of Lebanon and Hezbollah, and will view Lebanon as responsible for any action from within its territory", he said in the tweet.

Israeli warplanes increase flights over Syrian-Lebanese border amid fears of another big strike

Israeli warplanes were once again seen stalking the Syrian-Lebanese border just two weeks after launching their largest assault on Damascus since the 1973 October War (var. Yom Kippur War, Ramadan War).

According to a Syrian military report, the Israeli warplanes began their flights in southern Lebanon near the town of Marjeyoun before they made their way towards the Syrian border.

Republicans’ Apocalyptic Fantasies Are Now Playing Out in the Middle East

ore than 20 people in Gaza were dead on Monday before anyone in Washington had had their breakfast. This was pitched to the awakening nation as a series of “deadly clashes,” even though the deadly part only applied to one side. It was a great start to a day in which the president*, who doesn’t know anything about anything, prepared to toss a lighted match into a lagoon of gasoline in the Middle East.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This genocidal behaviour on the part of the IDF toward the Palestinians, encouraged and abetted by President Trump's acquiescence to the movement of the American embassy to Tel Aviv, coupled with the end-times insanities of Jeffress and Hagee (which are very dubious, in terms of both Biblical origins and interpretations), and the rabidly wretched racisim of Israeli Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, paints a very ugly picture of 21st century Israel.

The author of this article's likening of what Trump has done here, geopolitically, as being akin to tossing a lighted match into a lagoon of gasoline in the Middle East, is a very adept analysis.

People in the Middle East do not dislike us "For our freedoms", as the war criminal President Bush famously used to love to say; they dislike us because US foreign policy in the region has been completely oursourced to Israel, and Americans have been forced to live with those negative consequences of that Israeli-outsourced foreign policy for far too many years.

That foreign policy led to war with Iraq; it may well lead to a war against Hezbullah in Lebanon; a continuing war against Syria; and a war against Iran. And trust me on this; Tel Aviv wants those wars outsourced to the US military to fight,, but only at the costs borne in American blood, and American money.

The only political leader I am seeing as the adult in the room on these issues of stopping further wars in the region, will be Russia's President Putin; but even he may not be able to stop what I am seeing as the American rush to war in the Middle East, again, to control their pipelines, and in what currencies their oil will be sold.

Hezbollah leader says 55 missiles were fired on Israeli-occupied Golan Heights to mark the start of a 'completely new stage' that will go to the 'greatest extent' to defend Syria

The leader of Lebanon's powerful Hezbollah group, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, said on Monday a missile attack from Syria into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights last week marked a new phase in the Syrian war.

In a televised speech Nasrallah said the rocket attack showed Syria and its allies are ready to go to 'the greatest extent' to defend Syria from Israel.

He did not say who had carried out the attack.

There are also unconfirmed reports of Israeli fighter jets flying over Jordan airspace amid fears there could be further strikes.

It is at least the third attack since April 8 from Israel against Iranian assets in Syria.

Heavy Israeli overflights have also been reported.

US officials growing increasingly concerned Iran could attack Israel

There are increasing concerns Iran is on the cusp of an attack against Israel, several US military officials told CNN.

Intelligence is not clear on when an attack could come and what form it would take, they said, with one official noting that "if there is an attack it might not be immediately clear it's Iran."

The US is watching very closely to see if Iranian-backed actions could come from inside Syria or Lebanon, or even from inside Iran itself, though that would be considered a major military escalation.

Hezbollah and its political allies are projected to take more than half of the seats in Lebanon’s 128-seat parliament, according to unofficial preliminary results of the general vote, cited by local media and politicians. Lebanon held its first parliamentary election in nine years on Sunday, with more than 500 candidates running in 15 districts across the country. The main race is between a Western-backed coalition, headed by Prime Minister Hariri, and Hezbollah (which is listed as a terrorist organization by Israel and the US) along with smaller parties and individuals who aligned with the Iranian-backed group.

Lebanon: The Most Important Election in the World!

In a matter of mere hours, a new election will take place. Unlike seemingly all other national elections worldwide, this election will bring real “hope” to a needlessly impoverished country. This election will see real “change” come to a country far too long restricted and controlled by external foreign powers. For this is an election that is steeped in real democracy; not the US-inspired definition – the one based solely on the archaic shards of what little is left of a desperate empire struggling to hold onto its waning influence. This election will showcase, finally and thankfully, a return to the true definition.

Israel's Netanyahu Can Now Declare War on Iran With Single Vote

The Israeli parliament voted in favor Monday of granting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the ability to declare war with the sole approval of his defense chief under certain conditions.Following a 20-minute presentation in which Netanyahu accused Iran of covertly pursuing nuclear weapons, reports emerged that the Israeli Knesset approved 62 to 41 the amendment to Israeli law regarding the authorization for the declaration of war. Paper Discloses S. Arabia's Intention to Spread Yemen War to Lebanon

The Arabic-language al-Akhbar newspaper released the text of a letter wrote by Kawar to the UAE diplomats on November 22, 2017, in which she elaborated on her meeting with Mike Bell, a retired US Army colonel who served in the Iraq war and is now Trump's top Middle East adviser on the National Security Council.

Quoting Bell, Kawar wrote, "Abdolrahman al-Sadhan, a senior advisor to Mohammed bin Salman (the Saudi crown prince), has said that it is better to spread the proxy wars against Iran in Yemen to Lebanon."

The Lebanese newspaper had also earlier this week disclosed a new document showing that the UAE foreign ministry had rendered all-out financial support for Hezbollah's adversaries in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Lebanon.

US CENTCOM Chief Makes "Secret And Unprecedented" Visit To Israel As Russia Mulls Arming Syria

Increasingly it appears that the recent US coalition missile strikes on Syria have utterly backfired: instead of weakening Syria or degrading its military capabilities, the attack may have actually served to strengthen Syria's defenses.

Since the massive strike which involved the US, UK, and France launching over 100 cruise missiles, Russia is rumored to be moving forward on delivery of its advanced S-300 missile defense system, which would be a monumental upgrade allowing Syrian defenses to far surpass current capabilities which utilize the Soviet-made S-125 and S-200 air defense systems.

Crucially, S-300s have a range of up to 150-200 kilometers (or 120 miles), bringing Syrian deterrent reach easily to within Lebanese airspace (as Israel has routinely struck targets inside Syria while firing over "neutral" Lebanese airspace in recent years), and could even extend airspace coverage into Israel itself.

Interfax cited the Russian Defense Ministry as saying the Israeli war planes had carried out the strikes from Lebanese air space. The Russian ministry said that Syrian air defense systems had shot down five of eight missiles fired, while the other three landed in the western part of the base. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday that the strike was "a dangerous development."

Neocon Takeover of Washington Completed

Pompeo at State and Bolton as Trump’s national security advisor completed the neocon takeover of Trump’s geopolitical agenda – Wall Street running domestic affairs.

The combination represents a major setback for world peace and stability, greater aggression likely, along with the triumph of neoliberal harshness over social justice – a dismal and frightening state of affairs.

What to expect ahead? War in Syria is more likely to escalate than wind down, an unthinkable US/Russia confrontation ominously possible.

The Iran nuclear deal is either doomed, or likely to be gutted by Washington, accomplishing the same thing – with only tepid, ineffective opposition from P5+1 countries Britain, France and Germany.

The EU most often bends to US will when enough pressure is applied.

A relatively quiet Ukraine period could explode in greater Kiev war on Donbass, US-supplied heavy weapons and training aiding its aggression.

Webmaster's Commentary:

At this defining moment in world history, I despair about the current trajectory of both domestic, and foreign policies, creating more income inequality at home, and more wars abroad.

War-loving, Muslim-hating John Bolton wants to give ‘pieces’ of Palestine to Jordan and Egypt

The appointment of John Bolton to be Donald Trump’s national security adviser represents the neoconservative restoration, firmly ending the chapter in which Trump claimed to be a non-interventionist. Even Never-Trump neocons are happy today. The intemperate and Islamophobic Bolton is fiercely opposed to the Iran Deal, is militantly opposed to Russian influence in the Middle East, has called for declaring war against Iran and North Korea, and has pronounced the two-state solution dead.

Many today fear that Trump will give us another war. Senator Ed Markey:

John Bolton supports proactively bombing Iran and conducting a first strike on North Korea without provocation. Appointing him to be Nat Sec Advisor is a grave danger to the American people and a clear message from @realDonaldTrump that he is gearing up for military conflict.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This appointment of Bolton as President Trump's National Security Advisor, an appointment over which Congress has absolutely zero oversight, is officially horrible, and does not augur well for any kind of peace in the Middle East.

In fact, this appointment almost guarantees a war against Iran, which will almost inevitably mean war with Russia.

President Trump has morphed from the non-interventionist on the campaign trail to an avid supporter of war, as the only way in which the Unhinged Surveilled State of America can ever acheive its geopolitical goals.

The only reason we are looking at potential peace talks between the US and North Korea is that when Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited Washington for AIPAC earlier this month, he gave President Trump his marching orders, which were: "Forget about North Korea; regime change Tehran for me!!"

One has to wonder just what, precisely, Netanyahu has on President Trump, to make him so willing to sacrifice so much potential blood and money toward the achievement of this goal.

But like that architypical dream about a slo-mo train wreck, I can see this war coming, and soon.

I am bitterly disappointed with him for this, and think that, once again, the American people had utterly zero choice in the last election in 2016; it was warmonger vs/warmonger, both completely vetted, and blessed, by the Israeli political establishment, as their supreme candidates of choice, and the US military/industrial complex, as demonstrated by the passage of the omnibus spending bill yesterday.

US Commander: ‘US Troops Prepared to Die for Israel’ in War Against Syria, Hezbollah

Such a war is likely to be ignited by the unrest destined to follow the U.S.’ imminent move of its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The move, set to take place in May, led Hamas to call for a third intifada, or uprising, in response to the U.S.’ unilateral decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in defiance of the international consensus.

Beyond the fact that Israel is preparing to go to war with several countries simultaneously is the fact that U.S. ground troops are now “prepared to die for the Jewish state,” according to U.S. Third Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Richard Clark.

“We are ready to commit to the defense of Israel and anytime we get involved in a kinetic fight there is always the risk that there will be casualties. But we accept that, as in every conflict we train for and enter, there is always that possibility,” Clark told the Post.

Webmaster's Commentary:

'U.S. ground troops are now “prepared to die for the Jewish state,” according to U.S. Third Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Richard Clark.'

Oh, really, General Clark?!?

I would seriously doubt that.

I would respectfully suggest that you ask your troops if this is, in fact, the honest truth as they see it.

And I will venture one relatively safe bet here; the Israeli government wants to see these wars go forward; but primarily at the costs of American blood and American money.

Will Hariri issue another statement accusing Iran and Hezbollah of destabilizing Lebanon to add to the war rhetoric coming out of Israel at the same time that Lebanon is making a military agreement with Russia? Satellite Images Reveal Iran Establishing Missile Base Near Damascus - Reports

Recent satellite imagery taken outside Syria's capital Damascus show that Iran has constructed a likely missile base that can strike anywhere in Israel, according to media reports.

The Iranian facility is operated by the Quds Force, known as the special operations force of the larger Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and is located approximately eight miles southwest of Damascus, Fox News reported on Tuesday.

In this photo released by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard celebrate after launching a missile during their maneuver in an undisclosed location in Iran (File)

The media outlet said it acquired satellite photos from ImageSat International, which purportedly show two new white hangars, each roughly 30 yards by 20 yards, used to store short-and medium-range missiles, the report said.
Israel has repeatedly warned Iran that it will defend itself against any attack from the Islamic Republic.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, folks; a little logic here; why the blazes would Iran build an alleged missile base in Syria, when the country is still struggling for stability?!?

Would they not be concerned that such missiles could get into the hands of the jihadists who are still in that country, and used against both them and Syria government forces?!?

Each facility is about 90 square feet; that is a very small facility.

The Israelis can call these hangars anything they want; but at the end of the day, you have to have such missiles as close to the missile launching facility as safely possible.

So yes, where, please, is the missile launching facility from which these missiles can be launched?!?

The Iranian government and military may be many things, but stupid is not one of them.

Killing Nasrallah ‘decisive victory’ in next war on Lebanon: Israeli general

An Israeli military official says killing Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the head of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, would be a “decisive victory” in the regime’s future war against the Arab country.

“If we manage to kill Nasrallah in the next war, I would see that as reaching a decisive victory,” Major General Yaakov Barak said on Wednesday, Haaretz reported.

Barak claimed that any future war is expected to be very different from previous ones, and that Israeli ground forces are “ready and prepared” to be sent into the Lebanese territory more quickly, widely and deeply than before.

"War Is Coming To Southern Lebanon" - Lindsey Graham Warns Israel Is Planning An Invasion

Along the Israeli-Lebanon border, it's about to get 2006 all over again.

At least that's what Senator Lindsey Graham told reporters late Tuesday at a press conference with Democratic Sen. Chris Coons - with whom he sponsored a bipartisan immigration bill that ultimately failed to garner enough support from their fellow lawmakers. The press conference was called to share details about a bipartisan trip last week to the Middle East.

Graham of South Carolina told reporters that Israeli officials made it clear to visiting lawmakers last week that the IDF will need to launch a military action in Southern Lebanon if Hezbollah continues work on a guided-rocket factory being built in the region - a factory that's purportedly being funded by Iran, according to Bloomberg.

"They’ve told us in no uncertain terms that if this threat continues - they keep making rockets that can hit the airport and do a lot of damage to the state of Israel - they are going to have to go in," Graham said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Where is Israel's incontrovertible proof that such a factory is being built by Hezbullah in Lebanon, using Iranian money?!?

That's the cover story of course.

What Israel wants to do, is destroy Hezbullah in Lebanon, because it is affiliated with Iran, and control Lebanon's resources.

It is interesting what Senator Grahamn chose NOT to mention, which is a massive US-Israeli exersise in Israel, slated for early next month, right about at the time Netanyahu will be addressing AIPAC in DC:

IDF/US Troops get Ready to Drill to Simulate a Massive Missile Attack on Israel The drill starts on 4 March, and ends around 15 March.

Were I a betting woman, and because Netanyahu is really starting to sweat bullets due to friends turning state's evidence against him in his corruption scandals, I would not bet against him starting his war against Lebanon any time between the 4th and 15th of March, because he will already have American troops in place to fight Hezbullah alongside the IDF.

Timing... is always key in such drills, and what they could potentially become.

Senators Look to End Yemen War With First-Ever War Powers Challenge: US involvement in Saudi invasion never authorized by Congress

A bipartisan effort by four senators is looking to end the US military’s involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen, with the introduction of the first ever War Powers Act vote to come out of the Senate.

Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Chris Murphy (D-CT) are forwarding the bill, which notes that Congress has never authorized the use of military force in Yemen. This should allow Congress to oblige the administration to end US involvement in the war.

The US has participated in the Saudi invasion of Yemen since it began in 2015, with US planes performing mid-air refueling missions for Saudi bombers, and US warships at times participating in the Saudi-led naval blockade which is causing mass starvation in Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This move is morally correct, as the US government and military have been colluding with Saudi Arabia in war crimes in Yemen, through participation in the blockade and providing aerial refueling of Saudi bombers, supporting the bombing runs which have led to the massive, indescriminate killing of innocents, including women, children, infants, and the medically fragile elderly. And now, we have massive cases of cholera and diptheria ravaging the land.

But as morally correct as it may be, the passage of such legislation may prove quixotic in the extreme, for several reasons.

First, the Butcher of Yemen, AKA the Saudi Prince Salman, hates the fact that the Houthi rebels are Shia, and believes that they are getting extensive assistance from Iran (which, BTW, can hardly be proven at this point, other than for a few Iranian advisors).

Iran is considered by Saudi Arabian royalty and government to be its existential threat in the region.

So, the plan is, pound the Yemeni people down to extinction, through the genocidal campaign Saudi Arabia is currently waging against it, then go after Iran militarily. This was reported at globalresearch.ca on 13 February of this year:

The Coming War on Lebanon: Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the US Prepare for a long-Planned Middeast War.

The basic plan is to invade and control Lebanon, destroying Iran's ally Hezbullah; destabilizing and regime changing Damascus; then attacking Iran, with US and Israeli military help.

Of course, there is one tiny bit of of the calculus which Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the US haven't quite factored into their plans, and that is the current Russian presence in Syria, and the Russian promise it has consistently made to Iran to defend it if it should ever be invaded.

And THAT... is the thousand pound gorilla, sleeping splayed over the grand piano, which is going going to make such coming wars.... interesting, if not globally devastating.

IDF, US troops get ready for drill to simulate massive missile attack on Israel

The exercise will largely be performed through advanced computer simulations, though it will also include some real-world activities.

In total, some 4,500 soldiers from the two militaries will take part in the exercise — 2,500 of them from the United States’ European Command (US EUCOM) and 2,000 from the Israel Defense Forces. This is a substantial increase from the 2016 exercise, in which some 3,200 soldiers took part.

The Juniper Cobra exercise is scheduled to begin on March 4 and will formally run until March 15, though some American troops will stay in Israel and continue training with the IDF until the end of the month, the army said.

The threat from ballistic and guided missiles is one of the most significant threats facing Israel, and Israeli officials say it is growing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One false flag, to be blamed on either Lebanon's Hezbullah or Iran, will kick of a major Middle East war, with American troops already in place for battle.

And note the timing of the exercise: it starts precisely when the AIPAC conference kicks off kicks off in DC, which is 4 March to 6 March.

I do not believe that the timing of this exercise is a coincidence; with Netanyahu expected to be indicted for corruption, he may well be moving the timing ahead for such a false flag to be put in place, to distract from his legal woes, and give him some bloody shirts to wave about at AIPAC, as the justification for going into Lebanon, Iran, or perhaps both.

CASE 4000: NETANYAHU CONFIDANT REPORTEDLY TO TURN STATE'S WITNESS

Suspended Communications Ministry director-general Shlomo Filber, a confidant of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was expected to sign a state’s witness deal on Tuesday night as part of police investigation Case 4000.

Filber is reportedly suspected of bribery, fraud, breach of trust and other offenses, it was revealed on Tuesday.

He allegedly was Netanyahu’s “long-arm” in this case, and acted in his name in several deals that were allegedly done with the Bezeq telecommunications company and an attempt to sell the Walla media outlet. Filber’s testimony is reportedly expected to incriminate the prime minister.

The Justice Ministry refused to confirm or deny the report.

The state’s witness deal that is on offer to Filber does not include time in prison, said a Kan – Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation report.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, in fact these reports are true, it will serve to accelerate every war which Netanyahu wants the US to fight for it, including wars against Syria; Lebanon; and Iran.

Lebanon ready to confront any ‘Israeli aggression at all costs’ – army

The Lebanese army has reaffirmed its readiness to confront the “Israeli aggression” by any means at its disposal if the ongoing disputes and already tense relations between the neighbors escalate into an armed confrontation.
“I reaffirm again our categorical rejection of the Israeli enemy infringing on Lebanon’s sovereignty and its sacred right to exploit all its economic resources,” General Joseph Aoun said, as quoted by the Lebanese army. “The army will not spare any method available to confront any Israeli aggression, whatever that costs.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Tillerson and Satterfield are completely wasting their time here; the IDF has their game plan for an invasion of Lebanon, and the Lebanese Military and Hezbollah, have theirs for defending it.

This is not a question of if an armed conflict will break out between these two countries, as Israel's Netanyahu sees any conflict as a distraction from corruption charges which have been suggested against him; it is only a question of when.

ISRAEL IS DIRECTLY ARMING AT LEAST 7 SYRIAN REBEL GROUPS

Israel’s mounting interest in Syria’s War, and in particular in picking fights with the Assad government, Iran, and any other Shi’ite factions in the country, have included reports by analysts of a growing amount of Israeli arms and ammunition flowing across the border for rebels.

Officially, Israel isn’t a big fan on Sunni Islamist organizations. Such groups are the bulk of the rebellion on the Golan frontier, and that’s made them groups Israel has a very serious interest in seeing survive and thrive on the border.

Israeli officials have been very public in the past saying they prefer ISIS over the Alawite government in Syria. Expressing such a preference and arming terrorists are two different things, and Israel’s effort to step up arming for Islamist groups risks regional blowback.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Now that corruption charges have been recommended against Netanyahu, expect a brisk acceleration of everything he is trying to to accomplish regime change in Lebanon; Syria; and Iran. And from Sunday's LA Times, we have the following development:

Netanyahu in deeper peril as more Israeli officials are arrested on corruption charges

I originally expected such an uptick in regional Middle East conflict when he returned from addressing AIPAC here in Washington DC in the beginning of March, then seeing what President Trump was actually willing to "greenlight", in terms of US military response and involvement, once the two had met.

However, right now, he is a politcally wounded animal; and all animals are at their most dangerous when they are wounded.

I frankly am expecting much more geopolitical madness from Netanyahu, and soon, because losing the power and prestiege of the office of Prime Minister, under the conditions of an actual conviction on these charges, will leave him with no "cover" like that his current position affords him.

Hezbollah Leader Threatens "We Will Open Fire" On Disputed Israeli Offshore Oil & Gas Operations

During a televised address in Beirut on Friday Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah once again warned Israel to back off its claims over disputed oil and gas field just off the southern Lebanese coast, threatening that Hezbollah could "disable [Israel’s offshore oil installations] within hours."

"If you prevent us, we prevent you; if you open fire at us, we will open fire," Nasrallah threatened.

The dispute over the eastern Mediterranean gas field goes back to January 2017, but blew up starting in late January of this year as it has been put up for tender by Lebanon and is expected to be developed by an international consortium of energy companies. However, as we reported at the time Israel has aggressively pushed for major sectors of the field to be internationally recognized as lying within its rightful territorial waters, going so far as to warn "respectable" companies from participating in the tender, which would be a "major mistake".

ISRAEL IS TIGHT-ROPE WALKING AROUND ANOTHER DEVASTATING CONFLICT

For a second week in a row, Israel has seen severe security incidents on its borders which, with one small miscalculation, could have very easily somersaulted into another devastating conflict in the region.

Last week an Israeli F-16 was downed after Syrian air defenses launched some 20 missiles towards Israeli jets carrying out retaliatory strikes deep inside the war-torn country after an Iranian drone infiltrated Israeli airspace.

Beirut Calls US Proposal on Israel-Lebanon Maritime Borders Unacceptable - Media

Earlier, Lebanon's President Michel Aoun has said that Beirut was looking for the United States' "effective role" in resolving the brewing standoff over the offshore oil areas between Lebanon and Israel.

Lebanon's Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri told US diplomat David M. Satterfield, who also met Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil and Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, that the Washington-proposed plan on the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon "unacceptable."

"What is proposed is unacceptable," Lebanon's NNA cited Berri as saying. It is unclear what the US has offered to Lebanon concerning the disputed waters in the Mediterranean Sea.

Lebanon rejects US proposal on maritime borders with Israel

Speaker of Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri on Friday told the state National News Agency (NNA) that a US proposal concerning the disputed Lebanon-Israel maritime border was “unacceptable.”

During a meeting with the acting Assistant US Secretary of State David Satterfield, Berri stressed that the borders could only be demarcated based on the April 1996 Understanding between Israel and Hizbullah, which was brokered by the US to end the conflict initiated by Israel’s Grapes of Wrath operation. After the conflict, a Monitoring Committee was set up to implement the Understandings; it was composed of US, France, Syria, Israel and Lebanon

Hizbullah Today: Of Power, Money, and… the People.

By Brett Redmayne-Titley

[Note: This is Part Four of a multi-part expose direct from Istanbul and Lebanon. Please see Part One, Part Two and Part 3 for information not repeated here.]

With the last shot of the 2006 war fired and the IDF moving back into Israel, Lebanon began to heal its wounds. At the same time, Hizbullah, that had so successfully turned back the tides of war, began to rebuild – this time in new ways.

Using the respect it had gained by fighting for all of Lebanon, while the Lebanese army looked on from safe havens to the north, Hizbullah began the decade-long process of moving from purely a defensive military to a full-faceted political organization. Leader Nasrallah has been consistent, methodical and unwavering in these nationalist goals and by doing so has dragged the previously Western-aligned Lebanese political parties into having to similarly support their country first or die at the ballot box. All signs point to resounding success...

Hizbullah: “You Don’t See Them…They See You!”

By Brett Redmayne-Titley

[Note: This is Part Three of a multi-part expose direct from Istanbul and Lebanon. Please see Part One or Part Two for information not repeated here.]

“This is not good!” cautions a new Lebanese friend in a stern tone of warning, clutching this reporters arm for emphasis. “This, where you are going.. it is their neighbourhood… Hizbullah’s neighbourhood. They control this completely!”

Protesting that this quest is well-intentioned, no secret and no threat, this friend provides probably the most important council, and most accurate statement, in properly understanding today’s modern Hizbullah.

“You do not understand well about Hizbullah,” he says, the seriousness of his face indicating his sincerity. “You do not see Hizbullah… they see you!”

His caution and commentary prove to be a very accurate description of today’s Hizbullah...

Putting annexation row behind them, Netanyahu, Trump set March meet

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with US President Donald Trump next month when he visits Washington for the annual AIPAC confab, a White House official said Wednesday.

The meeting will come after the White House shot down Netanyahu’s assertion Monday that the US and Israel were discussing proposals for Israel to annex West Bank settlements, marking an unprecedented rebuke of the prime minister by the Trump administration.

The AIPAC conference, an annual gathering of pro-Israel figures, is scheduled from March 4-6 in Washington.

An official told Israel’s Hadashot news that the annexation kerfuffle “is already water under the bridge and has no consequence to our relationship with Netanyahu.”

Netanyahu’s comment Monday was made at a faction meeting of his right-wing Likud party, whose top body unanimously passed a resolution in December urging its leaders to formally annex parts of the West Bank and allow unlimited construction in the settlements.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Every time an Israeli Prime Minister makes the pilgrimage to DC, I get somewhat nervous; but this particular meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, has me literally close to an industrial-strength panic attack.

And why?!?

First, because Netanyahu may be charged with corruption charges, which makes him a politically wounded animal; and the "human animal" is at their most dangerous when they are politically wounded.

The same holds true for Netanyahu; and that will probably escalate the timetable for more attacks on Syria; Lebanon, and perhaps Iran.

Secondly, it is at these kinds of meetings where the President "signs off" on just how much mayhem he or she would "greenlight" for Israel in their next phase of grabbing more territory to itself.

This meeting comes in about 3 weeks; and these two have a very tight friendship.

But I very strongly caution the President about making any moves to greenlight any actions against Iran, or commiting to US troops to fighting in order to accomplish regime change in Tehran.

Tel Aviv wants to see this happen; however, primarily at the costs of American blood, and American money.

We'll know what transpired between the two probably the middle of next month, courtesy of movements both in the air, and on the ground in the Middle East, in terms of military activity we see by either Israel and/or the US.

Animosity Toward US Brings Turkey, Russia, and Iran Together for Summit on Syria

The leadership of Turkey, Iran, and Russia have all agreed to attend an upcoming summit in Istanbul on the topic of Syria, with the date for the meeting to be decided soon. Looming large over this is US relations.

Those three nations have met in the past on trying to get a peace process going in Syria, but right now the big issue on all their minds is increasing hostility from the US.

Turkey’s invasion of northern Syrian Kurdish territory has them facing potential conflict with US troops embedded in Manbij. The Pentagon has made clear their presence in Syria is at least in part intended now to fight Iran, and over the past week, US forces killed scores of Russians in the east.

These three nations weren’t seemingly all seeing eye-to-eye on Syria, but the acrimony with the US risks being a major unifier for them, with countering the US agenda in Syria likely a top priority for all.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The invasion of Syria by the US military demonstrates just how lousy US foreign policy, seemingly driven by wanting a "revenge death match" against both Al Assad and Putin, for kicking out US-backed jihadists in Syria, is now going from bad to unimaginably worse.

My sense is that the refusal of the US military to get its troops out of Manbij, where they are embedded with Kurdish fighting forces, is going to translate into a situation where these troops will become the US government's "sacrificial lambs" with which to justify further incursions into Syria, and direct military conflict with Russia, and potentially against Turkish troops in Syria as well.

NATO members met yesterday and today, in a series of meetings chaired by NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg.

NATO meeting held 14-15 February, in Brussels.

I am sure that Turkey - and its invasion of Syria - is very much on their minds.

Will NATO ultimately vote to intervene in Syria militarily, should the US ask it to?!?

Stranger things have happened.

POLICE RECOMMEND NETANYAHU BE INDICTED FOR BRIBERY ON TWO CHARGES

Israel Police recommended indicting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for bribery and breach of trust in two cases Tuesday night, Israel's Channel 2 and Channel 10 reported.

After a 14-month-long investigation, police announced on Tuesday that it found enough evidence to recommend the state’s prosecution to indict Netanyahu for bribery and breach of trust in Case 1000, the “gifts affair" and Case 2000, the "Yediot Aharanot Affair."

The prime minister, in the past, rejected both allegations claiming that "it is not illegal to accept gifts from friends" and that "Nothing will happen because nothing happened."

At this stage, the prosecution and Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit will examine the evidence that police collected throughout the investigations, and will later decide whether to actually indict the prime minister or not.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With these corruption charges against him, Prime Minister Netanyahu is about to become as geopolitcally dangerous as is a wounded animal.

Watch for these charges accelerate everything Netanyahu may be thinking about doing militarily in Syria; Iran; and Lebanon.

President Trump, just please be aware that this might be happening, and soon.

Another Unnecessary War: Israel is Planning to Launch a Military Operation against Lebanon

The writing is already on the wall: Israel will soon launch a military operation in Lebanon. Not a targeted attack on a weapons convoy or factory, but a simultaneous attack on Hezbollah’s missile production and launch sites. The operation will take place at the same time as, or immediately after, a series of assassinations of known Hezbollah operatives. That organization will, of course, react by launching a massive missile barrage at population centers in Israel, and Hamas may contribute its share in the south. Last week we were informed that missile interceptor systems have already been deployed throughout the country as part of a joint “drill” between the IDF and the U.S. military. Washington has already given a green light, or so we learn from Thomas Friedman’s most recent column — a faithful mouthpiece of American foreign policy.

Russia in the Crosshairs

Eric Zuesse notes that only Syria and Russia complain about Washington’s illegal occupation of Syrian territory, an occupation that has no UN authorization and is a complete and total violation of international law, and Israel’s continual attacks on Syria.

Washington’s continuing support for war against the legitimate government of Syria and support for Israeli and terrorist attacks on Syrian and Russian forces are undermining Russia’s efforts to bring peace to the region. Zuesse also notes that Washington and its UK puppet block all UN action against Washington’s illegality.

Zuesse is correct. But is the continuation of Washington’s campaign against Syria and Russia largely the fault of Russia? Stephen Lendman makes a case that it is Russia’s fault.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would argue that Russia doesn't wish to get into direct military conflict with the US in Syria, because it understands that this could well generate more wars with the US, which for reasons I will articulate later, which the US and NATO appear to be gung-ho to fight, putting Russia in the position of being forced to fight both in Syria, and in Ukraine.

Putin is moving heaven and earth to avoid that happening, understanding full well that the current anti-Russian hysteria in Congress and beyond, may well be a prelude to the larger war he is trying to prevent.

Putin has a very real world understanding of just what a world war does to the people who fight it; the civilian populations enduring it and the bitter physical results to places which have been utterly destroyed by wars; and because he has a very clear understanding of what World War II did to his country, he does not want to see it repeated, not in Ukraine, Syria, or Iran.

Steve Lendman, whose work I greatly respect, and frequently link to, needs to understand the following; like a giant ant, the US government is "trapped in the amber" of an absolutely unrepayable debt load, toward which the current spending legislation is adding, big-time.

The US government desperately needs a war with which to attempt to "misdirect" the American people about the reasons why their standards of living have slipped horrendously, as US government debt grows, unchecked, and there are many in the "bowels of power" in DC, who believe that a good war will be just the ticket to get the US government out of its debtload, and back on its feet.

Israel, with its recent attacks on Syria, against Syrian and the (alleged) Iranian presence will hardly stop now. They will continue these attacks until someone strikes back, or, allegedly has struck back, courtesy of an Israeli/US generated false flag.

Sooner or later, the US military will be called upon by Israel for a general invasion of Syria, "to defend Israel's right to exist", and to affect regime change in Damascus; The optics here mean that Iran most probably will not let this stand, so we will see Iran join the fray as well, on Syria's side.

For Russia, it painfully clear that the breakaway former areas of Ukraine, and Ukraine itself, are preparing for another round of military conflict.
Monitors warn of Preparations for a Fresh Surge in Fighting in Ukraine

This is where NATO will most likely be assisting the Ukrainians militarily, to attempt to gain back some of their purpose and credibility, and the US has already sided with Ukraine should the conflict escalate. After all, President Trump has signed off on supplying Ukraine with anti-tank weapons.
US to send anti-tank missiles to Ukraine By now, those weapons should have been delivered to the Ukrainian military.

So we will, I believe, have Russia - and the US - fighting on several different fronts, with NATO fighting against Russia in Ukraine, assisted by the US; Syrian, Iran, and Russia, fighting the US and Israel in Syria (and possibly against Iran) in a major war there.

I would like to hope to hell that I am absolutely wrong on this assessment; however, current events, particularly the major strike by the Israel's IDF against Syria last week, compels me to conclude, at the moment, that this is how the geopolitics of the next great war are going to play out.
