Did a preventable massacre go unprevented because of bureaucratic failure?
American government is supposed to look and sound like George Washington. What it actually looks and sounds like is Henry Hill from Goodfellas: bad suit, hand out, intoning the eternal mantra: “F*** you, pay me.”

The guiding principle of American law enforcement is that it is easiest to enforce the law on law-abiding people, while enforcing the law on outlaws is something that looks terrifyingly close to hard work.

Mueller: No Collusion Between Trump and Putin, But the Russia Card Is Bigger Than Ever

Sheer hypocrisy and crass dishonesty incarnate.

Now, a few days later—and thirteen indictments from one of Mueller’s grand juries, announced by the very same Rosenstein, specifically against more “Russian players” who reportedly “meddled” in the 2016 American elections, but without any connivance by the Trump campaign—and Rosenstein is feted as a veritable savior of the republic by those same commenters. Those Neocons who now selectively support the president and those bitterly anti-Russian Fox pundits (with the possible exception of Tucker Carlson) are absolutely giddy with delight! For too long, in their defense of President Trump against the charge of collusion, they had found themselves in the extremely uncomfortable situation (for them) of having to mount an attempt to exculpate the Russians, or at least lessen their culpability.

Former CIA Agent Tells: How US Infiltrates "Civil Society" To Overthrow Governments

Coups
The CIA and the Agency for International Development (AID) would have key roles in this program as well as a new organisation christened in 1983 — the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

Actually, the new program was not really new. Since its founding in 1947, the CIA had been deeply involved in secretly funding and manipulating foreign non-governmental voluntary organisations.

These vast operations circled the globe and targeted political parties, trade unions and business associations, youth and student organisations, women's groups, civic organisations, religious communities, professional, intellectual and cultural societies, and the public information media. The network functioned at local, national, regional and global levels.

Mapped: The 7 Governments the U.S. Has Overthrown

The era of CIA-supported coups dawned in dramatic fashion: An American general flies to Iran and meets with “old friends”; days later, the Shah orders Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh to step down. When the Iranian military hesitates, millions of dollars are funneled into Tehran to buy off Mossadegh’s supporters and finance street protests. The military, recognizing that the balance of power has shifted, seizes the prime minister, who will live the rest of his life under house arrest. It was, as one CIA history puts it, “an American operation from beginning to end,” and one of many U.S.-backed coups to take place around the world during the second half of the 20th century.

How To Overthrow A Government

Having studied the techniques of the CIA and related organizations, I am pleased to announce the following simple steps in overthrowing a democratically elected government.

Feb 18 09:31

America: A Military Nation

Americans like to think of their country as different from those run by military regimes. They are only fooling themselves. Ever since the federal government was converted into a national-security state after World War II (without a constitutional amendment authorizing the conversion), it has been the Pentagon, the CIA, and the NSA that have run the government, just like in countries governed by military dictatorships.

Oh sure, the façade is maintained - the façade that is ingrained in all of us in civics or government classes in high school and college: that the federal government is composed of three co-equal, independent branches that are in charge of the government.

Time for Turkey to return to the West

***
These contacts could ultimately result in an improvement in Turkey’s relations with the European Union as a whole. Within that framework, the Feb. 14-15 visit to Turkey by Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland was also probably important.

It is same for relations with the U.S., only much more complicated. Çavu?o?lu had said in advance of Tillerson’s visit that relations between the two countries could either get better or worse but not stay the same. Following a three-hour-plus meeting between Erdo?an, Tillerson and Çavu?o?lu on the evening of Feb. 15 - and a near two-hour meeting between Tillerson and Çavu?o?lu with their delegations on the morning of Feb. 16 - the joint declaration and joint press conference showed that Ankara-Washington ties are at least not going to get worse for the time
being.
***
But the main focus of the Tillerson visit was the Turkish-U.S. rift in Syria. It was interesting to see Tillerson saying the status of the town of Manbij was a priority, as Çavu?o?lu said Turkey wanted the U.S. to keep its promises and remove the People’s Protection Units (YPG) from Manbij to the east of Euphrates as a precondition for coordinating actions in Syria.

George W. Bush doesn't deserve the media's efforts at rehabilitation

“Our democracy is only as good as people trust the results,” former President George W. Bush declared in a presumably well-paid speech last week in the United Arab Emirates, a notorious Arab dictatorship. Bush is being exalted as if he is the second coming of George Washington thanks to his implied slams against the Trump administration. But Bush’s actions during his eight year reign did far more to ravage democracy at home and abroad than most people realize.

Thanks to gushing media coverage, Bush is enjoying one of the greatest comebacks in modern American history. In the summer of 2008, only 22 percent of Americans approved of Bush and 41 percent said he was the "worst president ever." Last month, a poll showed that 61 percent of Americans now approve of Bush, and his support among Democrats quintupled, from 11 percent in early 2009 to 54 percent now. If Americans want to understand current political challenges, they need to recall Bush’s forgotten debacles.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A couple of weeks ago, I believe on Faux news, I was watching a very vaccuous interview of the Bush twins, Barbara and Jenna, who apparently have (ghost) written a book on what their years growing up in a highly political family were like, titled "Sisters First."

Were I the television interviewer (something which will never happen, so the Bush family can collectively breathe more easily), my first question would have been "How does it feel, being the daughters of a war criminal"?!?

The screen would have gone blank, with a banner reading "Technical Difficulties", and I would have been dragged off the set, and thrown out the door of the studio in complete ignominy.

But would it have been worth it?!? HELL, YES!! :-)

This country needs to never forget, that under the Bush era, this democratic republic moved from "The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave" to "The land of the surveilled and the home of the cowed."

Sad Old Men Will Attack Russia at the Munich 'Security' Conference

The annual Munich Security Conference (MSC) will take place on February 16-18. No doubt the participants will paint Russia as a bully who is responsible for each and every thing that is going wrong, while the “innocent” West is calling for restraint and is ready to go to any length to preserve peace on earth.

The West is innocent? Russia is a bully and a threat? This is the right time to look at recent events to see what’s really happening. The US 2019 draft budget released on Feb. 12 asks Congress to approve over $6.3 billion for the US-led NATO European Reassurance Initiative (ERI). Tillerson's Visit to Ankara Seen as Green Light to Turkey's Chemical Attack against Kurds

***
The attack was launched by the FSA militants who are backed by Ankara and at the end of Rex Tillerson's visit to Turkey, raising speculations that the attack was launched after a US green light.

Washington's silence on the attack that has reinvigorated speculations about its suspicious role in the incident comes as it has repeatedly accused the Syrian army forces of conducting chemical weapons against militants, a claim always rejected by Damascus.

Experts believe the US selective approach is yet another indicator of Washington's willingness to make an instrumental use of chemical warfare.

FLASHBACK:Government agents 'directly involved' in most high-profile US terror plots

Nearly all of the highest-profile domestic terrorism plots in the United States since 9/11 featured the "direct involvement" of government agents or informants, a new report says.

Feb 16 18:52

FBI organizes almost all terror plots in the US

The Federal Bureau of Investigation employs upwards of 15,000 undercover agents today, ten times what they had on the roster back in 1975.

If you think that’s a few spies too many — spies earning as much as $100,000 per assignment — one doesn’t have to go too deep into their track record to see their accomplishments. Those agents are responsible for an overwhelming amount of terrorist stings that have stopped major domestic catastrophes in the vein of 9/11 from happening on American soil.

Another thing those agents are responsible for, however, is plotting those very schemes.

FLASHBACK:Terrorist Plots, Hatched by the F.B.I.

THE United States has been narrowly saved from lethal terrorist plots in recent years — or so it has seemed. A would-be suicide bomber was intercepted on his way to the Capitol; a scheme to bomb synagogues and shoot Stinger missiles at military aircraft was developed by men in Newburgh, N.Y.; and a fanciful idea to fly explosive-laden model planes into the Pentagon and the Capitol was hatched in Massachusetts.

But all these dramas were facilitated by the F.B.I., whose undercover agents and informers posed as terrorists offering a dummy missile, fake C-4 explosives, a disarmed suicide vest and rudimentary training. Suspects naïvely played their parts until they were arrested.

Emboldened by Trump, Israel tightens grip on Jerusalem

Israel has started work on a major new settlement project in occupied East Jerusalem.

The center is a short distance from the al-Aqsa mosque, one of Islam’s holiest sites.

PCHR stated that the project is in direct violation of Palestinians’ rights to Jerusalem, and that it “would seriously distort and change the city’s historical characteristics.”

It is part of plans to erase Palestinian culture, reinvent Jerusalem’s history according to a Zionist narrative and push Palestinians out of the city.

The project is taking place at the same time that Israeli authorities are installing a military checkpoint at Damascus Gate, an entrance to the Old City widely used by Palestinians.

As Wall Street Sinks Global Markets, China’s Economic Policies Build Independence & Immunity

***
Many Western economic analysts — such as those at the pillar of U.S. financial journalism, Bloomberg — have continued to predict future financial downturns would be caused by Chinese debt, or the country’s massive “shadow” economy (or, more specifically, low level loans that aren’t tightly regulated by the central government). This latest downturn, however, shows once again that Wall Street is still the primary factor in sinking global markets.

China has been faced with — and continued to grow throughout — a previous U.S.-triggered global recession just under a decade ago. While the current condition of the markets is nothing like the end of 2008, there is still the same fear in the West that China is somehow on the brink of catastrophe. Yet China pulled through the Great Recession, despite a huge decrease

The Trump Peace Plan: As Gaza Dries Out, Israel Turns Off Fresh Water Spigot

Near the end of last month, Haaretz reported that, according to an expert hydrologist, 97 percent of Gaza’s drinking water has been contaminated by sewage and salt. The UN also confirmed that this was the case early last year, and clearly, the situation has remained unchanged even up until 2018. Robert Piper, the UN’s local coordinator for humanitarian and development activities, has called the situation “really very serious” and stated that “[w]e are falling far behind the demand for clean drinking water for Gazans.”

This kind of mistreatment is part and parcel of an overall package of deprivation that continues to plague the Palestinian people. There are some 2 million residents in Gaza affected by this egregious policy, famously one of the most densely populated areas on the planet. Gaza’s water resources are fully controlled by Israel and the division of groundwater is something that was provided for in the Oslo II Accord. Trump Privatizes America

***
Well, many states and localities have blocks to prevent privatization giveaways. They want to prevent what happened in Indiana with its toll road. They say, “Wait a minute. Privatization is going to be a giveaway. It’s going to triple the costs of providing infrastructure services. It’s going to price our cities and states out of the market if we go along with this plan.” Trump’s plan says that in order to qualify for public funding, states have to abolish its regulatory framework, environmental laws and restrictions on private funding.

What Trump basically said is that states and cities have to let themselves be robbed blind by the hedge funds and Wall Street. Just as the hedge funds robbed Chicago blind on the parking meters – getting a huge rate of return that probably will force Mayor Rahm out of office at the next election – local governments have to let privatizers come in and vastly increase their cost of living for the infrastructure they need.

This means that this so-called infrastructure plan would have the effect of destroying America’s competitiveness instead of contributing to it.>>>

“When [the states] entered into the Union of 1789, it was with the undeniable recognition of the power of the people to resume the authority delegated for the purposes of that government, whenever in their opinion, its functions were perverted and its ends defeated . . . the sovereign States here represented have seceded from that Union, and it is a gross abuse of language to denominate the act rebellion or revolution.”

–Jefferson Davis, First Inaugural Address, Montgomery, Alabama, February 1861.

Lincoln asserted that it was not voluntary, and was more like what future generations would come to know as the Soviet Union – held together by force and bloodshed.

Southerner Sessions: 'Slavery' alone caused the Civil War

Doesn't know anything about Cannabis or American History it would seem. PC for sure though.

Jeff Sessions, a son of the South and President Trump’s attorney general, celebrated former President Abraham Lincoln’s 209th birthday with a blunt and bold statement that clashes with some of his fellow Alabamians and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly.

Speaking Monday at the Union League of Philadelphia’s Annual Lincoln Day celebration, he said slavery alone was the cause of the Civil War.

“US Foreign Policy Is the Greatest Crime Since WWII,” Former US Attorney General Ramsey Clark

The US Secretary of State’s criminally insane back handed remarks favoring a civil war, with all the probable loss of lives a civil war would bring, seems to fit as appropriate within a US foreign policy of world domination. Human suffering has never been of any consequence to the financial interests of that 1/10 of 1 per cent of Americans who, to one degree or another, rule us all.

That is the way it has been since the end of the Second World War, a war made possible by US investments and joint ventures in the rearming of Nazi Germany,[ 2] a war that made the USA rich and the first all powerful single superpower.

Biggest US Force in Years Joins Thai Military Exercise

The biggest U.S. force in years joined an annual military exercise in Thailand on Tuesday despite controversy over the Thai junta’s invitation to neighbouring Myanmar’s army, which has been accused of ethnic cleansing

The United States scaled back attendance at Cobra Gold, Asia’s largest multilateral military exercise, after a 2014 coup in Thailand. But relations between the junta and the United States have improved under President Donald Trump.

The presence of the 6,800 U.S. personnel - nearly double last year’s number - was a demonstration of America’s continuing muscle in a region where China is growing ever more powerful.

ISIS is losing badly. Should Trump or Obama get the credit?
http://m.washingtonexaminer.com/isis-is-losing-badly-should-trump-or-o...

It is becoming increasingly clear that the Islamic State is on the ropes in Iraq and Syria, and its defeat is just a matter of time.

What is less clear is whose strategy produced the victory.
***
The president himself declared Thursday that more progress in the campaign to defeat Islamic State had been made in the last eight months than in "many, many previous years, all combined."

But former Defense Secretary Ash Carter, in a lengthy essay published by Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, argued the Trump administration is crowing about the results of what is essentially Obama's strategy>>>
***
But it is clear the military favored the Trump approach, as evidenced by the parting comments of Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend as he prepared to relinquish command of the counter-ISIS operation in August.

"We don't get second-guessed a lot. Our judgment here on the battlefield in the forward areas is trusted. And we don't get 20 questions with every action that happens on the battlefield and every action that we take," Townsend said. "I don't know of a commander in our armed forces that doesn't appreciate that."

(*So , you see ? Fake NEWS doesn't just sprinkle The Democrats . And of course , Pat Buchanan is putting it out there that Trump is getting sucked into the Syrian thing , so I guess we get to chose the way it's going in Syria . The most optimistic is; Trump's policy has gotten us further into where we are in Syria today , then Obamas )

Milwaukee Jail Staffers Charged in ‘Appalling’ Death of Inmate Denied Water

Three Milwaukee County Jail staffers were given felony charges Monday for their involvement in the 2016 death of a mentally ill inmate, Terrill Thomas, who was denied water for a week as punishment for bad behavior.

At the time of Thomas' death, the jail was overseen by conservative activist Sheriff David Clarke, who retired in August 2017 to join a committee supporting US President Donald Trump.

Sheriff's Maj. Nancy Evans, the jail's former commander, was charged with felony misconduct in office and misdemeanor obstruction after lying to investigators about how long Thomas was denied water and withholding surveillance video that showed water being cut off to Thomas' cell and not being turned on again.

US launches full-scale confrontation with China: Scholar

The United States has “launched a full-scale confrontation with China,” because Washington is unable to compete with Beijing economically, an American writer and retired professor says.

James Petras, who has written dozens of books on international issues, made the comments in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday, after the US Defense Department called on Congress to approve a major budget increase in order to counter “threats” from Russia, China, and North Korea.

The Pentagon on Monday asked for a budget of $686 billion to be allocated to military spending in 2019. The requested amount is one of the largest in US history, and is also focused on beefing up the country's nuclear arsenal. The budget sees an increase of $80 billion from 2017.

If Europe arms Ukraine - Lavrov hints at Russia's help to Donbass

The United States is trying to "connect" European countries who share Russophobic tendencies, in order to arm the Ukraine further.

This was stated in an interview with Russia 1 television channel, by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, answering the question on why Europe is silent given the United States is supplying arms to Ukraine.

"Europe is not silent, it objects, but is quiet and unpublic. According to our information, they, in our conversation with the United States, express disagreement in response to Washington's urgent demands that Europe should join these initiatives of arming the Ukraine.

But the US is trying to lure the countries marked by their Russophobic tendencies into these projects. These are our Baltic neighbors. . .">>>

At the same time, he added that Russia can not prohibit Americans from supplying anything to anyone.
