John Brennan’s Police State USA – Mike Whitney

So it all started with Brennan, the resentful Intel chief who got his nose bloodied by Putin in Syria and decided to seek his revenge.

And, keep in mind, Washington’s Sunni proxies were not a division of the Pentagon; they were entirely a CIA confection: CIA recruited, CIA-armed, CIA-funded and CIA-trained. The defeat is not a loss for the US Military, but a blot on the record of CIA Director John Brennan, the architect and main proponent of the failed project to remove Assad. Brennan’s whole scheme has gone down in flames.

The Pentagon Wants Drone 'Swarms' to Support Infantry

In the near future, US Army and Marine Corps infantry squads could march into battle behind swarms of hundreds of flying and crawling drones. At least, that's the plan. On October 12, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency—the Pentagon's fringe-science wing—asked robot-developers to submit ideas for tactics and technologies that could allow small infantry units to deploy swarms of 250 or more robots.

ABC, NBC Maintain Clinton-Uranium Blackout, CBS Finds It 5 Days Late

Dickerson brought up the Clinton-Uranium scandal during an interview with Oklahoma Republican Senator James Lankford. After prefacing that the Senate Intelligence Committee, which Lankford sits on, could choose to review the FBI’s findings or investigate the accusations themselves, he asked the Senator:

You're looking into the Russian influence in the election, there have been reports this week about Russian efforts to try to influence the Obama administration and try to influence perhaps Hillary Clinton through donations to the Clinton Foundation with respect to the purchase of uranium. Is that something that the intelligence committee should look at, that you're interested in looking at?

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think that this will be a start of a trend, because the independent media (such as WRH) came out to it as quickly as the information was common knowledge (for anyone who cared to look at it), and the presstitute media, for the sake of its own financial survival, cannot be seen as either sugar coating it or ignoring it in the long run.

Why Vladimir Putin Deserves a Nobel Peace Prize (Seriously)

For many years, and despite all evidence to the contrary, the Western media has forwarded the inane idea that Vladimir Putin ranks in the same club with some of history's most loathsome creatures, up to and including Hitler.

The reality is that the Russian leader has done more to promote the cause of global peace and security than any other Western leader in recent times. That explains why he is the object of such intense scorn.

Trump and the Second Coming of Nuclear Nightmares (Literally)

The U.S. president has revived the fear of a nuclear holocaust for a new generation.

The first age of nuclear nightmares came in the 1950s and 1960s. They chiefly afflicted the young. Their parents had experienced nuclear realities by way of bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. That was part of a war, and ended it. It was normalized and rational, though in a basically ungraspable way.

Their kids grew up in a peaceful world haunted by nuclear terrors. Their teachers taught them to “duck and cover” beneath their desks if they saw the nuclear flash. They had nightmares (and waking ones) of it. The only moment of apparent imminence came during the 1962 Cuba Missile Crisis.>>>

Tillerson Warns Europe Against Iran Investments

NYTimes: Saudi Arabia — Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson warned Europeans on Sunday not to invest in certain Iranian businesses as the Trump administration considers walking away from the Iran nuclear deal and reimposing sanctions against Iran.

Speaking during a visit to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Tillerson said, “Both of our countries believe that those who conduct business with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, any of their entities — European companies or other companies around the globe — really do so at great risk.”

Scott Adams: The Power of the Presidential Tweet

As a trained hypnotist and a lifelong student of persuasion, I’m often impressed by how much “work” President Trump gets out of his tweets. Most of them are harmless retweets about whatever is going right, and they tend to be forgettable. The good ones are something entirely different, and many are gems of persuasion.

Israeli Merkava Hit by Hezbollah in 2006

This is what Hezbollah fighters did to Merkava MBT's in 2006 with Kornet ATGM's. The Israelis advanced up valleys without clearing the ridges. The Kornet outranged the Israeli's tank guns by over 1,000 meters and the Israelis couldn't elevate their tank cannons enough to shoot back anyway. They were out thought and out fought.
The IDF has been fighting unarmed people in the main since 1973. Hezbollah, the Iranians and Syrians are experienced blooded fighters with good weapons and tactics as well as strategy and they are backed up by The Bear. All the Israelis have left are nukes and the weakened US.

France requests more US troops to fight ISIS in West Africa

The US must step up support for French troops fighting Islamic State in West Africa, the French defense minister said during a visit to Washington, even as US officials sparred over the ambush in Niger that left four US service members dead.

“Much more needs to be done,” Defense Minister Florence Parly said after a meeting Friday with her US counterpart James Mattis and National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster, according to Reuters. “We can’t be and don’t want to be, the praetorian (guards) of sovereign African countries. They must be made able to defeat terror on their own.”

Without US support, Parly said, the mission is likely to fail.

French defence minister in Washington amid Niger ambush storm

US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis thanked French Defence Minister Florence Parly for France's help after four US soldiers were killed in an ambush in Niger, sparking controversy over American operations in the west African country. The Iran nuclear deal and Chad, which is affected by President Donald Trump's travel ban, were among other questions raised by Parly during her visit.

"Thank you for your support and for your letter of condolences for our fallen following this attack," Mattis told Parly when they met on Friday.

French helicopters, backed up by warplanes, arrived to evacuate the US victims within 30 minutes of the ambush by about 50 attackers, thought to be jihadists, near the Mali border.

The Iran Dilemma

The Iran Dilemma – The Tyrant Has Spoken

The tyrant, of course, is Donald Trump. He launched tirade after tirade, and keeps launching them, insult after insult, lies after lies after miserable lies at the Government of Iran – about Iran not fulfilling the conditions of the Nuclear Deal. The typical mass indoctrination of the western world through the presstitute mainstream media. Goebbels might smile in his grave, how well the neolibs or neo-Nazis have learned from the Nazis of his time – and perfected this science of deceit in the last 50 years. Fortunately, the counter culture, the truth seekers have also become more sophisticated. More people are waking up to the truth every day.

This Nuclear Deal was an agreement reached after 9 years of meticulous, often perilous and at times for Iran demeaning and offending negotiations. But Iran endured, because Iran’s negotiators, notably the Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, knew what they were talking about, namely that Iran had never any plans to develop nuclear weapons, but using the enrichment process for the production of nuclear power. This was, by the way, confirmed by all 16 US security agencies. To no avail.>>>

No, Niger Isn’t ‘Trump’s Benghazi

this month something happened in Niger that’s happened countless times before in our 16-year war against jihadists: An allied patrol was lured into an ambush, and American soldiers died. Based on the early reports (the Washington Post has perhaps the most thorough summary), it was a particularly vicious firefight, and American troops were unusually vulnerable. They weren’t in armored vehicles, they didn’t have readily available air cover, and they even had to rely on contractors to evacuate the wounded. Tragically, one soldier was killed after getting separated from his unit during the fight, and it took two days to recover his body.

Make no mistake, there is much to investigate in this incident, and investigations are already underway. The mission itself was uncontroversial. Barack Obama first sent American troops to Niger to assist French military operations in Mali>>>

Air Force could recall as many as 1,000 retired pilots to address serious shortage

President Trump signed an executive order Friday allowing the Air Force to recall as many as 1,000 retired pilots to active duty to address a shortage in combat fliers, the White House and Pentagon announced.

By law, only 25 retired officers can be brought back to serve in any one branch. Trump's order removes those caps by expanding a state of national emergency declared by President George W. Bush after 9/11, signaling what could be a significant escalation in the 16-year-old global war on terror.

"We anticipate that the Secretary of Defense will delegate the authority to the Secretary of the Air Force to recall up to 1,000 retired pilots for up to three years," Navy Cdr. Gary Ross, a Pentagon spokesman, said in a statement.

But the executive order itself is not specific to the Air Force, and could conceivably be used in the future to call up more officers and in other branches.

An American businessman who worked for years undercover as an FBI confidential witness was blocked by the Obama Justice Department from telling Congress about conversations and transactions he witnessed related to the Russian nuclear industry's efforts to win favor with Bill and Hillary Clinton and influence Obama administration decisions, his lawyer tells The Hill.

Attorney Victoria Toensing, a former Reagan Justice Department official and former chief counsel of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Tuesday she is working with members of Congress to see if they can get the Trump Justice Department or the FBI to free her client to talk to lawmakers.

“All of the information about this corruption has not come out,” she said in an interview Tuesday. “And so my client, the same part of my client that made him go into the FBI in the first place, says, 'This is wrong. What should I do about it?'”

China to ‘Compel’ Saudi Arabia to Trade Oil in Yuan – Ending Petrodollar as World Reserve Currency

The jig is up for the NWO gang that murdered JFK back in 1963 and has run America into the ground ever since.Their day is ending!

This week, a leading economist predicted a major paradigm shift, as Carl Weinberg, chief economist and managing director at High Frequency Economics told CNBC that China will “compel” Saudi Arabia to abandon the petrodollar, and instead, begin trading oil in yuan—a move he says is likely to precipitate the rest of the oil market following suit and abandoning the U.S. dollar as the global reserve currency.

Weinberg noted that China is poised to clearly dominate the global landscape in terms of oil demand since surpassing the U.S. as the “biggest oil importer on the planet,” adding that Saudi Arabia will “pay attention to this because even as much as one or two years from now, Chinese demand will dwarf U.S. demand.”

Future of JCPOA In Hands of GOP Indebted To Billionaire Iran Hawks

President Donald Trump’s decision to decertify the Iran nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), appears to have fallen in line with the views espoused by several of his top donors. These funders believe that Iran poses an apocalyptic threat only addressable through military action, including the use of nuclear weapons.

Two years ago, every Republican in Congress opposed the JCPOA.>>>
***
Indeed, the influence of these key donors—Sheldon Adelson, Bernard Marcus, and Paul Singer—over U.S. foreign policy, particularly with regards to Iran, doesn’t stop at the White House, where combined they contributed over $40 million to various pro-Trump political groups and causes.

Scuttling The Nuclear Deal Leaves America With Less Leverage Than It Had When It Negotiated The JCPOA In The First Place.

***
It gets worse. Many critics of the deal believe Iran is implacably determined to obtain nuclear weapons at some point. Whether the context is the JCPOA or something else, it is taken essentially as a matter of faith that Iran wants the bomb; the only question is how to delay it or coercively prevent it.

This presumption is wrong. It seems rather clear that Tehran has decided that the benefits of making concessions in exchange for greater economic engagement and diplomatic relations with the world far outweigh the costs of doggedly pursuing a nuclear deterrent. The latter path carries the benefit of ensuring regime survival, but would also condemn Iran to perpetual isolation, rogue-state status and a harsh global-economic sanctions regime. Iran does not want to end up like North Korea, impoverished and without any allies.

The angry diplomacy of President Donald Trump is Washington’s way to scare off North Korea’s traditional ally, China, and disrupt what has been, till now, quite a smooth Chinese economic, political and military ascendancy in Asia that has pushed against US regional influence, especially in the East and South China Seas.

Trump's Iran Plan Faces Resistance in Congress

With the entire international community having ruled out negotiating a new P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran including the terms President Trump wants, the administration’s strategy has focused on trying to get the US Congress to impose the changes within US participation in the deal.

This includes expanding US threats of “snap back” sanctions into myriad behaviors totally unrelated to the nuclear deal. No one else would respect these US demands, but it would give President Trump some claim of Congressional support for imposing sanctions in violation of the pact.

It’s not clear President Trump will be able to push this through Congress however, especially in the Senate, where trying to get 60 votes is going to involve courting Democrats. There weren’t a lot of Senate Democrats >>>

Two Cents on the Decertification of the Iran Deal

President Trump had a good day on Friday. First there was the end of illegal “cost-sharing reduction” payments (subsidies) to insurers under ObamaCare — a laudable end to a totally extraconstitutional executive action by Obama. Hooray! Then Trump went even further and decertified the Iran deal. Double hooray!

Now. Let’s take a second and talk about the Iran deal. I for one have become sick of partisan knee-jerk reactions to every policy issue under the sun. So let’s avoid that sort of thing, and ask ourselves: why is the Iran deal bad, after all? Is it because Obama did it therefore it’s bad? Is it because Tougher Is Always Better in every situation, no matter what?

No and no. There are actual reasons >>>

Trump goes full shabbos-goy – The Saker

For 10 years I have considered that my prediction of a US attack on Iran was the biggest analytical failure in my career. I now hope and pray that it will remain so...

At the risk of deepening what still might be my mistaken prognosis of 2007 I will say that yes, the USA will probably attack Iran. Since there is exactly ZERO chance of Iran caving in to the latest US-Israeli threats, not attacking Iran will now represent a major loss of face and humiliation for Trump and his Neocon masters. So the USA will go to war yet again, not for any rational reason, but solely because Bibi Netanyahu “owns” Trump and Israel “own” the USA.

Trump Decertifies

Trump Decertifies
by The Editors of THE NATIONAL REVIEW

Trump is decertifying the Iran deal, and gave a tough-minded speech announcing his decision.

We have opposed the Iran deal from the beginning. Building on the North Korean model of negotiations, Tehran engaged in a years-long dialogue with the West over the question of whether it would have a nuclear program, all the while developing its nuclear program. The upshot of the agreement was that we accepted Iran’s becoming a threshold nuclear power and showered it with sanctions relief — including, literally, a plane-full of cash — for the privilege.

Trump Is Signaling an Unprecedented Right Turn on Foreign Policy

Every few years – sometimes four, sometimes eight – America’s political mood swings from one pole to another.

It’s a not-uncommon disorder for democracies. Voters get disgusted with one flavor of politics and opt for another. For better or worse, the United States doesn’t have a Baskin-Robbins democracy. So, the vacillations in Americans’ political taste can only pendulum between chocolate and vanilla.

It’s one thing for America to lurch from one end of the spectrum to the other on fiscal matters, the advisability of universal health care, or the economic impact of immigration.

On foreign policy, however, the shifts are not just mystifying to those outside U.S. borders, they’re downright frightening.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortuntately, it appears to me, courtesy of President Trump's "whisperers" (including Kelly; Mattis; Mc Masters; Netanyahu; and Kissinger) we are looking down the double barrels of a war against Iran, which will most probably mean a war with Russia, as Russian politicians and military leaders have vowed to defend it, should it come under attack.

I cannot say precisely when; but the extreme demonization of the Iranian government, and its people, is on full-tilt boogie right now, courtesy of the presstitute corporate media, and that kind of narrative is generally the prelude to war.

Remember: narratives are crafted to fulfill an agenda; right now, the agenda is attempting to convince the American people that they need to sacrifice their sons and daughters on the field of battle to create regime change in Tehran; give the US and Israel access to Iran's resources; and make sure that those resources are only sold in American dollars.

THAT... is what is going on right now.

But understanding how intensely those in the Bowels of Power in DC have lied to the American people to "bring them to heel", in terms of supporting its wars of conquest, I want all of you to think about this very carefully; are the lives of your fathers; moms; family members and friends; your sons and daughters, worth their sacrifice to this agenda, which is patently economic in nature?!?

There is only one intelligent answer to this question, and that is, HELL, NO!!

The Real Danger of Refusing to Certify the Iran Deal

Scuttling the nuclear deal leaves America with less leverage than it had when it negotiated the JCPOA in the first place.

President Trump’s decision not to certify the Iran nuclear deal is reckless and dangerous. By all accounts—including that of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), America’s European allies, the U.S. intelligence community and Trump’s national security team—Iran has complied with the restrictive terms of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and significantly rolled back its nuclear program, while subjecting itself to the most intrusive inspections regime in the world.
Undermining a successful nonproliferation agreement in this way isolates America, sows doubt about its credibility and trustworthiness, signals to other rogue regimes, like North Korea, the imperative of a nuclear deterrent, and worst of all, needlessly puts the United States and Iran back on the road to confrontation.

Trump to rebuke Iran but won't call for sanctions that threaten nuclear deal

Donald Trump is expected to disavow the Iran nuclear deal in a speech denouncing the government in Tehran, but he will not call for the US to abandon the agreement, according to officials briefed on the president’s intentions.

In his speech on Friday, Trump will unveil what he will describe as a new, tougher strategy against Iran, and blame his predecessor, Barack Obama, for the rise of Iranian influence across the Middle East.

He will impose fresh sanctions on Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, propose measures to punish Tehran for its ballistic missile programme and call for Congress to pass legislation that will trigger automatic sanctions and potentially a US exit from the nuclear agreement in the event of future Iranian transgressions.

Trump's New Executive Order Makes It Easier to Buy Insurance Outside of Obamacare

There is something clever, almost cunning, about Obamacare's policy scheme: It requires unequivocal political support from an administration in order to avoid accusations that the law is being undermined. It is a kind of joint political-policy trap, in which the only solution to the law's failings is to bail it out.

This is evident in the reaction to the executive order on health care President Trump signed today. Trump's order is light on specifics, but it is intended to facilitate the expansion of association health plans, which would let trade groups and small businesses band together to purchase health insurance like large employers. These plans would be exempt from some of Obamacare's rules.

Ivanka and Kushner were once very active in President Trump’s day-to-day decision-making. Furthermore, the pair have been meeting with some of the country’s top executives regarding job programs, private partnerships, and infrastructure, suggesting that they’re already planning for the future. Trump’s Nuclear Ambitions Angered Tillerson and Worried Military Leaders

Apparently, after a slide show briefing showing the decline of U.S. nuclear stockpiles from the 1960s to now, Trump reportedly commented that he wanted to increase those numbers, by nearly tenfold.

That wasn’t the point of the slideshow, but he missed it.

According to the officials present, Trump’s advisers, among them the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, were surprised. Officials briefly explained the legal and practical impediments to a nuclear buildup and how the current military posture is stronger than it was at the height of the build-up. In interviews, they told NBC News that no such expansion is planned.

Rural Americans who supported the candidate Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential elections have become disillusioned in the president, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows.

Those same rural Americans provided Trump with enough support to beat challenger candidate Hillary Clinton, primarily because Trump gave the impression of speaking to them directly, offering solutions to their problems in language they could understand.

IAEA, world leaders reject US claims on Iran nuclear deal

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and many world leaders have unanimously thrown their weight behind the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries, rejecting US President Donald Trump’s claims that Tehran has violated the “spirit” of the deal.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano in a statement on Monday once again confirmed that Iran was in compliance with its commitments under the nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“I can state that the nuclear-related commitments undertaken by Iran under the (nuclear agreement) are being implemented,” Amano said in prepared remarks during the 20th Edoardo Amaldi Conference in Rome.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is the US Government, in adding more sanctions, that has violated the spirit of the deal!

Mike Pence’s Walk Out Was Exactly What Was Needed

Pence’s symbolism was, in my view, exactly what was needed to bring this nonsense to an end and it had some immediate effects

Yesterday, Vice President Mike Pence made a powerful statement. He visited the Colts-49ers game. He stood for the National Anthem and presentation of colors and when a number of players did their kneeling schtick, the Vice President left the stadium.

When This Is All Over, Will We Even Have Democrats and Republicans?

Right now, if you look at the federal level, it is really difficult to tell if either political party has a long term advantage over the other. Neither really seems capable of winning an egg and spoon race, much less a legislative victory in Congress.

On the one hand, you have the Republican Party, which has time and again promised to do what its base wants if they’d just give them control of the House of Representatives and the Senate and the White House, only to renege on every single promise in some way, shape or form.

The hopelessly corrupt structure of the Eurozone & the Eurogroup

Follow the money. The Eurogroup rules the Eurozone and its 19 member states. The first rule of Eurogroup is: ‘You don’t talk about Eurogroup!’

Part of the problem of criticizing the “pan-European project” is that you have multiple bodies which overlap. And you also have some nations which are part of one, but not another. Or which pay into one body, but abstain from another.

A clear analysis is needed of the most important part of the pan-European project: the Eurozone. The Eurozone is the most important because it controls the money in the world’s largest macro-economy.

Trump: Rhetoric vs. Reality

With Donald Trump in the White House, merrily tweeting whatever disruptive and disturbing sentiments erupt from his consciousness in the early morning hours, hysteria has become the default condition of our pundit class. Trump tweets that “only one thing” can stop Korean despot Kim Jong-un’s nuclear pyrotechnics, and the editorialists swing into action, while the Democrats point gleefully to the prospect of World War III: “See? We told you he’s nuts!”

Add to this the widespread belief that Kim Jong-un is a “madman,” and the hysteria of the chattering classes reaches fever pitch: we’ve got no less than two crazy people with nuclear weapons, and they’re about to blow up the world! Oh no!

The problem with this scenario is that it has nothing to do with reality: it’s a rhetorical construct, based on the verbal extravagances of actors whose entire modus operandi depends on a constant stream of bluster, bluff, and unmitigated bullshit.

‘World will change’: Trump likely to pull out of Iran nuclear deal next week – German FM

Germany’s foreign minister has expressed concern that US President Donald Trump is “likely to quit” the Iranian nuclear deal next week. Germany along with other EU states has been a staunch supporter of the agreement brokered by Barack Obama’s administration.

Breaking the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is a great concern to Germany as it brings new risks to international security and effectively would change the world, German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said Sunday.

Texas megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress, one of President Trump’s evangelical advisers who preached the morning of his inauguration, has released a statement saying the president has the moral authority to “take out” North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“When it comes to how we should deal with evildoers, the Bible, in the book of Romans, is very clear: God has endowed rulers full power to use whatever means necessary — including war — to stop evil,” Jeffress said. “In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong Un.”

Our president has his eyes firmly fixed on the rear-view mirror as he attempts to throw his SUV into reverse and head for the past, hoping to spend billions shoring up decrepit bridges along our internal infrastructure. China’s president is focused on the road ahead, a modern version of the old Silk Road: The $1trillion globe-girdling work-in-progress, launched in 2013 and known as the One Belt One Road, will be a network of ports, pipelines, railways and industrial parks, and ancient maritime lanes. It will span 65 countries stretching from China to Europe. The goal is to open markets now beyond the economic reach of Chinese firms, tap natural resources that a growing Chinese economy will require, and splash cash to win friends and influence policy along the way.>>>

Identities of Three US Green Berets Killed in Niger Released, Fourth Found Dead

On Wednesday, ten to 12 Green Berets were accompanying a patrol of Nigerien forces about 120 miles north of the capital city of Niamey. They came within 20 miles of the Mali border, whereupon approximately 40-50 assailants attacked. AQIM is one of several militant groups currently in revolt against the Malian government.

The ambush was successful, killing four Green Berets and five Nigerien troops. Gunships from France, which runs their own military operations in Mali, arrived at the scene and dispersed the ambushers. Three Green Beret deaths were confirmed by the Pentagon almost immediately, with the fourth announced on Friday.

US will lose the trade war with China – Jim Rogers

If they put sanctions on China in a big way, it brings the whole world economy down.

Sanctions are sanctions. They could do sanctions which are not very important or don’t do much damage. And then they will have good public relations which says they have sanctions, but it is meaningless. I would suspect if anything, that is what they will start with.

The Trump Presidency Or How to Further Enrich “The Masters of the Universe”

***
At one level, Trump’s antics ensure that attention is focused on him, and it makes little difference how. Who even remembers the charge that millions of illegal immigrants voted for Clinton, depriving the pathetic little man of his Grand Victory? Or the accusation that Obama had wiretapped Trump Tower? The claims themselves don’t really matter. It’s enough that attention is diverted from what is happening in the background. There, out of the spotlight, the most savage fringe of the Republican Party is carefully advancing policies designed to enrich their true constituency: the Constituency of private power and wealth, “the masters of mankind,” to borrow Adam Smith’s phrase.

US BOOSTS DEFENSE SPENDING – TO WHAT END?

One of Donald Trump’s campaign promises was the pledge to “rebuild the US military”, and it is one of the few of his initiatives that appears to enjoy broad bipartisan support. The US Senate’s version of the defense appropriations bill provides for what amounts to a dramatic 10% increase in defense spending, or more than even the Trump Administration requested. The bill passed with a strong bipartisan majority and with hardly any debate. There is no reason to expect the House of Representatives will not follow suit. This naturally raises the question: what is behind the sudden interest in boosting US defense spending, after a decade and a half of continuous war?
