Turkish President Plans to Visit Russia's Sochi on October 22 - Erdogan's Office

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is planning to visit Russia's Black Sea resort of Sochi to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on October 22, the Turkish presidential administration announced on Wednesday.

Erdogan spoke by phone with Putin on Tuesday. The leaders discussed the situation in Syria and the ongoing Turkish Operation Peace Spring on the Syrian territory. At the end of the conversation, Putin invited Erdogan to visit Russia in the coming days.

"Our president plans to pay a visit to Sochi on October 22," the Erdogan's administration said in a statement.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov earlier confirmed that Putin and Erdogan would discuss the developments in Syria in light of the Turkish military operation against Kurdish militants in northeastern Syria during the Turkish president's visit to Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, folks, that's next Tuesday.

And the decision to send VP Pence to Turkey this week, when President Trump had to know, that Erdogan would only talk to him, rather than to his "Second Lewie", was a thoroughly, and painfully, bone-headed decision.

One has to wonder if Putin is going to offer Erdogan an opportunity to join a major Defense Pact with Russia; suggest that Turkey resign its membership in NATO; and have both countries trading in local currencies, rather than in the US dollar.

But if any of this comes down as a result of this meeting, I have to blame it squarely on the head of President Trump, who absolutely misread Erdogan's intentions here.

And please note; as the US government throws former geopolitical friends under the proverbial bus, the more it is running those former friends into the arms of Russia and China, which I think is about to happen to Turkey very quickly, as Erdogan gets cozy with Putin at Sochi.
