Breaking: ISIS launches big counter-attack in southeast Deir Ezzor

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have reportedly captured the strategic town of Baghouz Fouqani in southeastern countryside of Deir Ezzor this evening.

According to local activists, the Syrian Democratic Forces, in coordination with the French and U.S. armies, managed to score a major breakthrough in southeast Deir Ezzor on Thursday after spending the last 24 hours involved in a fierce battle with the so-called Islamic State (ISIS).

The Syrian Democratic Forces were able to crack the Islamic State’s lines after U.S. attack helicopters repeatedly bombarded the Islamic State terrorists, forcing them to ultimately fall back.

Generation being born now is the last to be free – Assange in last interview before blackout (VIDEO)

Before his links to the world was cut by his Ecuadorian hosts, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange gave an interview on how technological advances are changing humankind. He said global surveillance will soon be totally unavoidable.
The interview was provided to RT by organizers of the World Ethical Data Forum in Barcelona. Assange, who is currently stranded in the Ecuadorean embassy in London with no outside communication except with his legal team, has a pretty grim outlook on where humanity is going. He says it will soon be impossible for any human being to not be included into global databases collected by governments and state-like entities.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Pretty powerful predictions; and unfortunately, it looks like they about to turn true.

Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey exposed for ties to Big Pharma abortion pill maker… effort to derail Kavanaugh is plot to protect abortion industry profits

Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford, who claims — without any evidence — that Kavanaugh inappropriately touched her at a drunken party while in high school, turns out to have ties to an abortion pill pharmaceutical company called Corcept Therapeutics. This discovery brings to light an obvious conflict of interest in Blasey’s story, revealing that she works for a pharmaceutical company that manufacturers an abortion pill drug, whose profits could be strongly impacted by future Supreme Court decisions on abortion rights.

Corcept Therapeutics (Corcept.com) manufacturers and markets an abortion pill drug called mifepristone, and Christine Blasey Ford is a co-author of at least eight published scientific papers produced by the pharmaceutical giant to promote its pills. You can see Blasey’s name listed on several publications at this Corcept.com web page detailing their research papers.

US Sends Ships to South China Sea ‘to Create Trouble’ - Chinese Envoy

China’s chief envoy in London accused “some big countries outside the region” of coming “all the way to the South China Sea to create trouble,” where China claims large expanses of sea and atolls.

Ambassador of China to the United Kingdom Liu Xiaoming told the annual Induction Programme for Commonwealth Diplomats organised by the Commonwealth Secretariat Wednesday that regional powers had made major strides toward resolving tensions in the South China Sea by themselves.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Without naming names, this was a pretty conspicuous hit at the US government.

Republicans threaten to subpoena Nellie Ohr

Conservative House Republicans are calling on their colleagues to subpoena Nellie Ohr, the wife of Justice Department official Bruce Ohr, after a deal fell apart this week that would have led to her voluntary testimony.

“Now that Nellie Ohr is not coming in it is time to subpoena her and get her in as soon as possible,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said in an interview with The Hill.

He called it “unfortunate” that Ohr would not come in as planned on Friday for a deposition.

A Republican House Judiciary Committee aide separately told The Hill that the committee will use its subpoena power to try to compel Ohr to testify if she does not agree to do so voluntarily.

It’s unclear why the deal fell apart to have Ohr interviewed behind closed doors with the House Judiciary and House Oversight and Government Reform committees.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A Subpoena served upon this lady would be a good thing right now.

After 27 Years, Golf Drawings Helped Clear a Convict of Murder

It hasn't been easy for Dixon, who was victimized by a broken criminal justice system at seemingly every turn. It took a golf magazine, a group of undergraduate students, and years of proclaiming his innocence for a judge to finally listen, even though the man who actually committed the murder has confessed multiple times over the years. Here's how it all unfolded:

U.S. — A ‘Democracy Where ‘Both’ Sides Represent ONLY the Aristocracy

The most comprehensive scientific study ever done of the subject has shown that America is ruled only by its few richest, not by the public. How can this be the case if its Government is run by two Parties — Democrats and Republicans? Those are merely competing factions within the aristocracy. America is a two-Party dictatorship. A dictatorship can have any number of parties. An aristocracy can have any number of factions.

Ford opens door to testifying next week

Christine Blasey Ford, the woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, says she's willing to testify next week under “terms that are fair and which ensure her safety.”

The notice came in an email from her attorney to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Republicans on the panel had set a 10 a.m. Friday deadline for her to say whether she’d speak at a hearing scheduled for Monday where Kavanaugh is set to appear.

The attorney, Debra Katz, says her client’s appearance on Monday “is not possible” and argued “the committee’s insistence that it occur then is arbitrary in any event.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ford is trying to act like she controls the Senate, dictating when the hearing takes place and under what terms it will be held.

1929 Crash Remembered, 20 Sept 2018

But who here can remember 1929?

Not I, but I was a little kid who paid attention.

Wandering into a tea at my grandmother's, one of the silver-haired ladies ordained that I come sit by her, and listen.

Old money was sipping Earl Grey and remembering not just 1929 but also 1933 and the govt-violation of safety deposit boxes to confiscate citizen gold, and even jewelry.

They described suicides leaping out of windows and going splat, fortunes lost overnight, factories, farms, homes called in as bank collateral.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Now would be a good time for Americans to remember who got hurt during this economic tsunami, and why; we are headed for another cyclical "dip" at any moment, probably aggravated by Central Banks' "planning", which has repeatedly gone catastrophically wrong.

Study Shows Toxic Effects Of Oil Dispersant on Oysters Following Deepwater Horizon Spill

Oysters likely suffered toxic effects from the oil dispersant Corexit® 9500 when it was used to clean up the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, said Morris Animal Foundation-funded researchers at the University of Connecticut. The team determined this by comparing the low levels of toxicity of oil, the dispersant and a mixture of the two on Eastern oysters. The team published their findings in the journal Aquatic Toxicology.

After the Deepwater Horizon oil rig spilled more than 170 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, nearly two million gallons of Corexit® 9500 was deployed into the Gulf to break the oil down.Oysters like these, at a University of Connecticut lab, likely suffered toxic effects from the oil dispersant Corexit® 9500 when it was used to clean up the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Dianne Feinstein’s Office Won’t Share Kavanaugh Accuser’s Letter

The longer that the Brett Kavanaugh sexual assault allegation scandal continues, the worse it looks for the accuser.

Senator Dianne Feinstein, the lawmaker whom Christine Blasey Ford confided in with her accusations, has done a great job at destroying any credibility Ford had going into this. By being informed of her allegations in the form of a letter back in July, and waiting until a week before Kavanaugh’s Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation vote to release the details, Feinstein has tainted Ford’s claims. Now, many suspect the allegations are too politically timed to be believed. Even some Senate Democrats are displeased by the suspect timing.

In response to the what Putin has called a ‘tragic incident’ that caused the death of the crew of the radio reconnaissance aircraft and the IL-20 VKS RF warhead, Rusvesna reports that the Russian military has made a major move.

Effective September 19th, the Russian Federation has announced the closure of a large area of ??the eastern Mediterranean for the movement of military aircraft and ships until the 26th of September.

According to the official version, this step is justified by the beginning of unscheduled maneuvers of the navy and aviation off the coast of Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My question, since what Russia has essentially done, is to declare a "no fly" zone over the Eastern Mediterranean, for Russian naval drills, will the US comply, or attack before the 26th of this month in their own "Freedom of Navigation" drills?!?

Unfortunately, if I were a betting person, I would think the latter, rather than the former outcome, is more possible here.

Orban's Moscow Visit A Middle Finger To EU After Last Week's Humiliation

The “salon des refusés” of political dissidents in the EU is getting bigger by the day. Less than a week after his government was condemned in a vote in the European parliament, Orban is in Moscow for talks about energy with Putin. His visit to Russia is the political equivalent of giving the EU the finger following last week’s humiliation.

Orban is not alone. In his battle with the EU over immigration and the rule of law, he is supported by Poland and the Czech Republic. Poland, which is also facing an Article 7 procedure against it by the European Commission, has vowed to protect Hungary, just as Hungary has vowed to protect Poland. So there is no way that the voting rights of either country can be removed, since the ultimate vote to do so requires unanimity. Orban also recently received the support of Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis and of the Italian Minister of the Interior, Matteo Salvini.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It looks as though the EU is on the brink of imploding, due to massive, unchecked immigration, and the negative consequences thereof.

Iran Sanctions Are Damaging The Dollar

Painful sanctions on Iran have demonstrated the long reach of the U.S. Treasury, forcing much of the globe to fall in line and cut oil imports from Iran despite widespread disagreement over the policy. Yet, we are only in the first few chapters of what may ultimately be a long story that ends with the erosion of the power of the U.S. dollar.

The role of the greenback in the international financial system is the reason why the U.S. can prevent much of the world from buying oil from Iran. Oil is traded in dollars, and so much of international commerce is based in dollars. In fact, as much as 88 percent of all foreign exchange trades involve the greenback.

Moreover, multinational companies inevitably have some commercial ties to the U.S., so when faced with the choice of business with Iran or losing access to the U.S. financial system and the American market, the choice is an easy one.

Turkish Lira Swings Violently As Erdogan's Economic Plan Spooks Traders

The Turkish lira swung violently, rising to session highs then slumping 1.5% after Turkey presented its medium term economic plan, which together with last week's massive 625bps rate hike was supposed to restore investor confidence in the country's struggling economy.

The Turkish Lira first rose 1.9% during the speech delivered by Turkey's finance minister Berat Albayrak in which he revealed targets for growth and inflation that signaled a somewhat realistic assessment of the economy and its outlook, including a current account deficit that was forecast at 3.3% for 2019, a number seen as realistic and a far-cry from some of the wild estimates recently suggested by analysts.

The third installment of Project Veritas' undercover series on socialists within government features an auditor for the Government Accountability Office (GAO) admitting to breaking rules "every day" in order to conduct business for the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

The first two undercover videos in the series revealed a DSA member within the State Department who is "engaged in radical socialist political activity on the taxpayer's dime," and a DOJ employee pursuing the same goals - who said there is "a lot of talk about how we can, like, resist from the inside."

The DOJ is investigating.

Thursday's video features Natarajan Subramanian - a GAO accountant and self-proclaimed Communist who admits to actively working for the DSA.

US Places 33 Alleged Russian Spies And Military Officials On Sanctions Blacklist

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has authorized the addition of 33 alleged Russian spies, defense and intelligence officials to the US sanctions list. The blacklisting took place following an executive order from President Trump authorizing Steven Mnuchin, in consultation with Pompeo, to employ all powers granted to the President "by IEEPA and certain CATSAA sections" for implementation of certain sanctions with respect to Russia.

A White House official said the new measures were aimed at "imposing costs on Russia in response to its malign activities."

Washington has also imposed new sanctions on a Chinese military unit over the purchase of Russian jets and missiles. The Chinese sanctions are to come into effect immediately.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The only thing these sanctions seem to have actually accomplished, is to strengthen the position of the ruble, and made it more self sufficient, and more attractive to investors.

One could almost say that this practice has rather backfired for DC in a spectacular manner.

School District To Begin Randomly Drug-Testing High School Students

FBI Had "Two Sets Of Records" On Trump Investigation; Comey, McCabe Implicated: Carter

Journalist Sara Carter told Sean Hannity during his Wednesday radio show that the FBI has two sets of records in the Russia investigation, and that "certain people above Peter Strzok and above Lisa Page" were aware of it - implicating former FBI Director James Comey and his #2, Andrew McCabe.

Hannity: Sara, I’m hearing it gets worse than this–that there is potentially out there–if you will, two sets of record among the upper echelon of the FBI–one that was real one that was made for appearances. Is there any truth to this?

Carter: Absolutely, Sean. With the number of sources that I have been speaking with as well as some others that there is evidence indicating that the FBI had separate sets of books.

Idlib: Lull Before the Hurricane. New US Military Doctrine for Intervention in Syria

Without fanfare the US has just reformulated its position to create the conditions for it to launch devastating strikes on Syria no longer just on the pretext of alleged use of chemical weapons but on any ‘humanitarian’ pretext the US sees fit. In an interview with the Washington Post on 6 September, James Jeffrey, the hawkish new Special Envoy for Syria fresh from the neocon incubator of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, did not mince words:

“We’ve started using new language,” Jeffrey said, referring to previous warnings against the use of chemical weapons. Now, he said, the United States will not tolerate “an attack. Period.”

“Any offensive is to us objectionable as a reckless escalation” he said. “You add to that, if you use chemical weapons, or create refugee flows or attack innocent civilians.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The primary question is, with the Russian/Turkish agreement in place on Idlib, how long with the Syrian government wait to regain Idlib from US backed terrorists, and will that be the "justification" for an American/Israeli strike against both Syria and Russia?!?

Curiosity Mars rover halts ALL scientific operations because a mysterious glitch in its main computer has blocked it from sending findings back to Earth

Nasa's Curiosity mission has ground to a halt on Mars after a glitch forced the $2.5 billion (£2 billion) rover to terminate all of its science experiments.

Mission team members say the inter-planetary science lab can no longer beam data stored in Curiosity's memory banks back to Earth, effectively rendering it useless until the issue is resolved.

Researchers said they are unsure what triggered the computer glitch and that it could be 'some time' before engineers manage to diagnose and fix the problem.

Mission team members are also preparing to fire up the backup computer inside Curiosity, in case they need the separate system to diagnose the mysterious issue plaguing the main computer.

iPhone owners claim their battery life has been 'cut in half' ahead of the launch of all-new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max tomorrow

Twitter is awash with claims the power shortages have been caused by the firm preparing for the UK and US release of its iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max tomorrow.

One user claimed their iPhone 6S Plus battery drops by almost 50 per cent in less than 15 minutes since the announcement.

Another asked: 'Did anyone else's iPhone battery life just get cut in half?'

Although there is some truth to the claims, it is not evidence of an Apple conspiracy to force users to upgrade to the latest handset.

Instead, the recent release of iOS 12 has demanded additional resources from their gadgets while it downloads, installs and re-indexes data stored on the iPhone.

US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard Blasts America’s Support for Al-Qaeda in Syria, as Trump Threatens Further Military Action

US military veteran and congresswomen for Hawaii, Tulsi Gabbard, has slammed US foreign policy in Syria.

Arming al-Qaeda

On the 13th of September, Gabbard told [23:06] comedian and satirist Jimmy Dore:

“Since 2011 both overtly and covertly, the United States has been providing arms, intelligence, and equipment to fighters who are allied with, fighting along side, working with, al Qaeda in this regime change war.

So these very same terrorists who attacked us on 9/11. We’ve been supporting for years, as this ground force to fight in this regime change war that we have been quietly waging now for seven years.”

These statements are strikingly up front, given the fact that these policies began under Democratic Party President Barack Obama.

On the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Gabbard also criticised Trump’s opposition the Syrian government’s plans to retake Idlib, by way of tweet:

Why Israel Demolishes: Khan Al-Ahmar as Representation of Greater Genocide

Like vultures, Israeli soldiers descended on Khan Al-Ahmar, on September 14, recreating a menacing scene with which the residents of this small Palestinian village, located East of Jerusalem, are all-too familiar.

The strategic location of Khan Al-Ahmar makes the story behind the imminent Israeli demolition of the peaceful village unique amid the ongoing destruction of Palestinian homes and lives throughout besieged Gaza and Occupied West Bank.

Throughout the years, Khan Al-Ahmar, once part of an uninterrupted Palestinian physical landscape has grown increasingly isolated. Decades of Israeli colonization of East Jerusalem and the West Bank left Khan Al-Ahmar trapped between massive and vastly expanding Israeli colonial projects: Ma’ale Adumim, Kfar Adumim among others.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is the subtext of "Israeli development"; creating housing developments which prevent there from being a contiguous Palestinian state.

‘Captain Marvel’ Is The Recruiting Tool Of The Air Force’s Dreams

After a minute of explosions, alien spacecraft, and a crash-landing in a Blockbuster — so you know it takes place in the ‘90s — the new trailer for the upcoming Marvel film shows us the real origins of Air Force Col. Carol Danvers. Danvers grows from downtrodden adolescent to determined Air Force cadet, to outstanding fighter pilot, to cosmically-powered warfighter in the span of a few frames.

If this seems familiar, it should. The trailer evokes old Department of Defense recruiting commercials, like a young woman’s transformation from student to Marine in last year’s recruiting spot, “Battle Up.” It’s a common hook in military recruiting ads: You tell a life story, or a coming-of-age tale, in 60 seconds flat. After all, joining the military to transform into the pinnacle of martial perfection, and thus become a national superhero in your own right, isn’t a new lure. Anyone remember that one commercial involving a mameluke-sword-wielding Marine in dress blues vanquishing a demon?

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have seen this kind of recruiting up close and personal. We live not far from the Marine air station, where there are "festivals" where the general public is encouraged to attend, particularly with their families and kids.

I have watched some really bright, kid-centric, and young military officers engaging with kids, describing how various pieces of military hardware work, and I have seen those kids leave starry-eyed, and all aglow with what a military future might hold for them.

The reality that all wars are economic in nature, is never broached, and of course, nor are the real killing capabilities of all those wiz-bang machines they see assembled around them. One also almost never sees a wounded Vet at these events, to drive home the possibility of being killed, or physically maimed during combat.

It's all bright, shiny show of impending death to "the others" with no consequences to yourself, which get pitched at these events. I believe this to be absolutely morally wrong.

And if you have a teenage child who has seen this movie, and comes home talking about wanting to enlist in a branch of the military, please find someone from any organization like Veterans for Peace, and invite them over to talk to your kid.

They've been there; they understand what it is like to be "in country", where the job is to "pacify" the locals, insure a US-centric government stays in place, and where all the natural resources of that country are only sold in US dollars.

This... is what I mean when I say, "All wars are economic in nature."

The 'significant expansion' of Israeli spyware use in the Gulf and beyond

A recent report showed that spyware produced by an Israeli-based cyber-warfare vendor, which only deals with governments, has witnessed “significant expansions” of usage in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

Citizen Lab, a research and development organisation at the University of Toronto, said on Tuesday that it tracked the use of Pegasus, a mobile phone spyware suite produced by Tel Aviv-based NSO Group between August 2016 and August 2018.

“Our findings paint a bleak picture of the human rights risks of NSO’s global proliferation. At least six countries with significant Pegasus operations have previously been linked to abusive use of spyware to target civil society,” said the report, naming the three Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, as well as Morocco.

The Israel lobby’s non-stop attacks on Corbyn will backfire

Back in the 1950s, the US intelligence community coined a term: "blowback". It referred to the unintended consequences of a covert operation that ended up damaging one’s own cause.

There are mounting indications that the intensifying campaign by the Israel lobby in the UK against Jeremy Corbyn, the leader of the parliamentary opposition, is starting to have precisely such self-harming repercussions.

In the three years since he was elected to lead the Labour party, Corbyn has faced non-stop accusations that his party has an endemic "anti-Semitism problem", despite all evidence to the contrary. Of late, Corbyn himself has become the chief target of such allegations.

Last week the Daily Mail led a media mauling of Corbyn over disparaging comments he made in 2013 about a small group of pro-Israel zealots who had come to disrupt a Palestinian solidarity meeting. His reference to them as "Zionists", it was claimed, served as code for "Jews" and was therefore anti-Semitic.

Apple's new system was revealed after the company updated its iTunes policy page on the official website.

According to the iPhone maker, Apple builds a score based on the number calls and emails you send and receive – to help spot fraudulent transactions made using your device.

"To help identify and prevent fraud, information about how you use your device, including the approximate number of phone calls or emails you send and receive, will be used to compute a device trust score when you attempt a purchase," Apple explained.

"The submissions are designed so Apple cannot learn the real values on your device. The scores are stored for a fixed time on our servers."

The , captured in the high school attached to Northwest Normal University on September 3, shows students lining up to scan their faces with a facial recognition machine to pay for their meals.

According to reports, students and teachers have their campus cards connected with the facial recognition system.

This canteen is the first to use the 'face-scanning payment' in Gansu Province and it only takes one second to perform the whole process.

RUSSIA IMPOSES "NO-FLY" ZONE FOR ISRAELI MILITARY AIRCRAFT AROUND SYRIA

The Russian government has informed Israel that, as a consequence of their actions which resulted in the shoot-down of a Russia IL-20 Electronic Intelligence aircraft, Russia is imposing a NO FLY ZONE for Israeli military aircraft around Syria.

This No Fly zone will be from Flight level 000 to Flight Level 190 until September 26.

Any Israeli military aircraft operating outside the sovereign territory of Israel in violation of this No Fly Zone risks being shot down.

The Russian government has instructed 14 Russian Naval Vessels in the Mediterranean to begin enforcing this immediately.

Child pornography reason behind Sunspot Observatory closure, according to court documents

A federal search warrant reveals that Sunspot Solar Observatory was shut down as FBI agents conducted computer forensic searches for child pornography.

The source of child pornography was traced to an IP address used at the observatory and a source within the building observed a computer with "not good" images on it, the warrant states.

An investigation by the FBI revealed that a janitor is the main suspect in the search, however he has not been charged with a crime even though his name is on the warrant.

The warrant states the suspect would use the observatory Wifi and a personal laptop to download the child pornography.

Nearly half in top 5 US cities don’t speak English at home, record 67 million

Nearly half of the residents in the nation’s five biggest cities do not speak English at home, choosing instead their native language, according to the latest Census Bureau data that details the impact of a decade of soft immigration policies.

Overall, a record 67 million do not speak English at home, said the bureau. That is nearly double in 27 years.

In its just-released analysis of the Census data, the Center for Immigration Studies said, “As a share of the population, 21.8 percent of U.S. residents speak a foreign language at home — roughly double the 11 percent in 1980.”

The Center added, “In America's five largest cities, 48 percent of residents now speak a language other than English at home. In New York City and Houston it is 49 percent; in Los Angeles it is 59 percent; in Chicago it is 36 percent; and in Phoenix it is 38 percent.”

Wreck of Captain Cook's HMS Endeavour 'discovered' off US coast

The possible discovery of HMS Endeavour off the east coast of the US has been hailed as a “hugely significant moment” in Australian history, but researchers have warned they are yet to “definitively” confirm whether the wreck has been located.

On Wednesday Fairfax Media reported archaeologists from the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project, or Rimap, had pinpointed the final resting place of the famous vessel in which Captain James Cook reached Australia in 1770.

The ship was later used by the Royal Navy in the American war of independence and was eventually scuttled with a dozen other vessels off Newport, Rhode Island in 1778.

Justice Dept Vows To Investigate After Second Veritas Video Exposes "Deep Throat" Types Within HHS

The Department of Justice on Wednesday said it would look into allegations of "misuse of government resources to advance personal interests" after James O'Keefe's Project Veritas released a second video this week exposing "deep state" federal employees pursuing socialist agendas while on the clock at their government jobs.

In the latest undercover video, DOJ paralegal and Democratic Socialists of America member, Allison Hrabar, reveals that there is "a lot of talk about how we can, like, resist from the inside." She discusses a fellow DSA member working from within the Department of Agriculture who is "slowing down" the process by which people are eliminated from the food stamp program.

PV Journalist: “…she mailed it to you in like physical snail mail like post office and then you like got it. That’s like awesome.”

Schubel: “Yeah. It’s kind of like the Nixon, “deep throat” type of thing.”

Taxing And Tracking The Independent Media: Censorship And Control

One of the most heinous things about taxes is that they support the very 'organs' (to quote a Soviet-era term) of government that crush the people... even further. The taxes are weapons used by the authorities...and all authority comes from the barrel of a gun (to paraphrase Mao). The taxes are used to corral in the masses and keep them upon a continuous treadmill that sustains the system...the very system that exploits and enslaves the citizens.

Central Planning Failed In The USSR, But Central Banks Have Revived It

The Federal Reserve’s changing of the guard - the end of Janet Yellen’s tenure and the beginning of the Jerome Powell era - has me remembering what it was like to grow up in the former Soviet Union.

Back then, our local grocery store had two types of sugar: The cheap one was priced at 96 kopecks (Russian cents) a kilo and the expensive one at 104 kopecks. I vividly remember these prices because they didn’t change for a decade. The prices were not set by sugar supply and demand but were determined by a well-meaning bureaucrat (who may even have been an economist) a thousand miles away.

If all Russian housewives (and house-husbands) had decided to go on an apple-pie diet and started baking pies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, sugar demand would have increased but the prices still would have been 96 and 104 kopecks. As a result, we would have had a shortage of sugar — a common occurrence in the Soviet era.

The HELOC ATM Is Back - Over 24 Million Americans Are Using Home Equity "To Get By"

Americans' propensity to use their home equity to pay for routine household expenses - as if it was a credit card - has waned in the years since the financial crisis, largely because home ownership rates have also plunged to the lowest level in modern US history.

But with borrowers sitting on massive amounts of untapped equity, one study by Bankrate.com suggests that millions of Americans are seriously considering tapping to pay for everyday purchases even as interest rates are pushing borrowing costs to their highest level since the financial crisis.

And as anybody who remembers the crisis would remember, this can become extremely problematic when it comes time to roll those loans over at a higher rate.

How the Trade War Helps Hide Central Bank Sabotage Of The Economy

Almost every aspect of the global economic downturn, which started ostensibly in 2007-2008 and is still ongoing to this day, can be traced back to the actions and policies of central banks. The Federal Reserve, for example, used artificially low interest rates and easy money to create a supposedly no-risk loan environment. This translated into a vast amount of toxic mortgage debt along with a web of derivatives (Mortgage Backed Securities) attached to that debt.

The Fed ignored all the signs and all the alternative analyst warnings. Agencies like S&P backed the Fed narrative that all was well as they gave AAA ratings to endless toxic market products. The mainstream media backed the Fed by attacking anyone that argued the notion that the U.S. economy was unstable and ready to falter. In that era of economics, the truth was effectively hidden from the public by the system through relatively standard means. Today, things have changed slightly.

5.2 million children at famine risk in Yemen: charity

More than five million children are at risk of famine in Yemen as the ongoing war causes food and fuel prices to soar across the country, charity Save the Children warned Wednesday.

Disruption to supplies coming through the embattled Red Sea port of Hodeida could "cause starvation on an unprecedented scale," the British based NGO said in a new report.

Save the Children said an extra one million children now risk falling into famine as prices of food and transportation rise, bringing the total to 5.2 million.

A Saudi-led alliance intervened in 2015 in a bid to bolster the president, accusing Iran of backing the Huthis, but nearly 10,000 people have since been killed.

Deadly clashes resumed around the Huthi-held port city of Hodeida following the collapse of talks in Geneva earlier this month.

"Millions of children don't know when or if their next meal will come," said Helle Thorning-Schmidt, CEO of Save the Children International.

Mattis says US is still backing Saudi coalition in Yemen war, as lawmakers fume

Yes, I said it; the blockade of Yemen's major ports, preventing food from getting in to innocent non-combatants, are blocked, and now that the Saudis are in position to take over the last port city in Yemen, Hodeidah, the situation will simply get more catastrophic.

And the US government and military are complicit here, up to their collective necks. And while our alleged representatives are allegedly "fuming" about this, they do nothing to stop it, because Tel Aviv and AIPAC want to see the Saudis "win", no matter how horrific the price in blood is for the Yemeni people. Decoding Putin's Response To Attack In Syria

The fog of war and geopolitics makes initial responses to the attack on Russian and Syrian forces recently difficult to assess.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s response seemed timid and was at odds with statements from his Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and more recent statements from Russia’s Foreign Ministry.

Putin backed off on explicitly blaming Israel for the downing of the IL-20 ELINT aircraft which killed 15 Russian servicemen, but made it clear he holds them responsible for the attack as a whole.

My thoughts on what the goals of the attack were are the focus of my latest article at Strategic Culture Foundation.

It was obvious to me that this attack was designed as a provocation to start World War III in Syria and blame the Russians for attacking a NATO member without proper cause, since the Syrian air defense forces were the ones responsible for shooting down the plane.

A Japanese Probe Is About to Drop Two Hopping Robots Onto Asteroid Ryugu

A Japanese asteroid-sampling probe is about to get up close and personal with its target space rock.

The Hayabusa2 spacecraft will drop two tiny rovers onto the asteroid Ryugu this week, possibly as early as Thursday (Sept. 20), if all goes according to plan.

The Hayabusa2 team began prepping seriously for the epic maneuver last week. The current schedule calls for the mother ship to descend toward Ryugu today (Sept. 19) and for the two little disk-shaped robots, known as MINERVA-II1A and MINERVA-II1B, to deploy as early as tomorrow, U.S. time. (Officials with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, have cited Sept. 20 and Sept. 21 for these events, but that's apparently on Japan time, which is 13 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Daylight Time.)

Volcanic explosions shut down this national park. It’s about to reopen — without any lava.

For the last decade, a cauldron stewed inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

A giant lake of churning lava, over 500 feet across and hundreds of feet deep, drew visitors from around the planet to the lake's eerie red glow, visible at night as the sun set beyond Hawaii's Big Island. Just in April, the burgeoning lava lake overflowed its banks and spilled onto the floor of the volcano's summit.

But over four months later, the scorching lake is gone. Following an onslaught of volcanic quaking and explosions this summer, it drained, completely.

The next war might include mind-controlled drones

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has overseen trials using mind-controlled drones for use by the military.

According to The Daily Beast, these trials were computer simulations that are the precursor to what could lead to robotics that are controlled by the mind of a human operator.

The Military Times asked DARPA for comment regarding the experiment. An email from a spokesman from DARPA was able to shed light on the experiment, seemingly fit for science fiction.

The Corps just slapped a counter-drone system on an MRZR all-terrain vehicle

In yet another sign the Corps is becoming increasingly concerned about air defense, the Corps decided to slap a counter-drone system on a Polaris MRZR all-terrain vehicle.

It’s called the Light Marine Air Defense Integrated System, or LMADIS, and it’s comprised of two MRZR vehicles, a command node and a sensor vehicle.

The system is a “maneuverable ground-based sensor, electronic attack, C2 [ command and control] system," 1st Lt. Ariel Cecil, the commander of the Low Altitude Air Defense detachment for Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 166, said in a video posted by the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

The LMADIS can detect, track, identify and take down drones with electronic attack, according to Cecil.

Iran establishes new S-300 site

Iran has built a new launch site for an S-300PMU-2 strategic surface-to-air missile (SAM) system at Mashhad airport in the northeast of the country, satellite imagery has revealed.

Constructed between May and July, the site is almost identical to the S-300PMU-2 base at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport, but has pads for only two launchers instead of the usual four.

This fits the recent deployment of a partial S-300PMU-2 battery to Mashhad airport three times since 2017, all of which coincided with visits to the city by Supreme Leader Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. For all those deployments the system was set up at the end of the taxiway and had two launchers, not four.

US aircraft carrier Truman crosses Atlantic after threats to Syria

USS ‘Harry S. Truman’ is crossing the Atlantic after leaving the US east coast following last week’s drills. The movement of the carrier, used during the Middle East mission in April, comes in the wake of US threats to Damascus.
Data provided by the US Naval Institute (USNI) on Monday showed the ship in the Atlantic roughly over 1,000 km west of Ireland’s southern coast.

The previous position of the ship reported by the USNI the week before was not far from the US east coast. The aircraft carrier group with 6,500 sailors left its base in Norfolk and took part in “sustainment operations and carrier qualifications in the Atlantic” just over a week ago.

The warship’s Atlantic exercise comes after the White House warned earlier this month that it would respond “swiftly and appropriately” if the Syrian government used chemical weapons in its fight to secure Idlib.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US is sending a rather intense, and potentially badly timed, show of force, just at the moment after a Turkish/Russian agreement has been created to stop the potential slaughter in Idlib, which, admittedly, would most probably result in the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians.

The worst case scenario I can imagine here is some Syrian effort to take out the terrorists on their own here, which will cause US missiles to start flying (probably aided by Israeli military) and we are off and running with a battle between the US and Israel on one side, and Syria and Russia on the other.

Air Force Calls For 24% Increase In Squadrons To Prepare For War Against Major Power

Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson on Monday called for a significant increase in the service’s size, as it prepares for the possibility of war against a major nation such as China or Russia, in the next decade.

Under the expansion plan outlined by Wilson, the Air Force needs to grow by 74 additional squadrons, a 25% increase, by 2030. She said the number was based on internal reports, using intelligence estimates of what the service would need as far as manpower to be victorious in the next conflict.

"To face the world as it is, with a rapidly innovating adversary, the Air Force we need should have about 25 percent more operational squadrons in the 2025 to 2030 time frame than the Air Force we have," Wilson told attendees at an Air Force Association conference in National Harbor, Maryland.

Grassley demands Feinstein turn over letter from Kavanaugh accuser: 'I cannot overstate how disappointed I am'

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley on Wednesday unloaded a torrent of criticism on Sen. Saying Feinstein "chose to sit on the allegations until a politically opportune moment," Grassley demanded she immediately turn over an unredacted copy of the letter from Kavanaugh's accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, that Feinstein received July 30.

Feinstein, D-Calif., shared the letter with federal authorities and other senators only last week, days before a key Judiciary Committee vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation, after a leak about the letter was published in The Intercept. Republicans have accused Democrats of orchestrating that leak.

'This form of animal testing is blatantly inhumane': Bipartisan lawmakers continue to condemn USDA for killing at least 3,000 kittens for gruesome taxpayer-funded experiments

The United States Department of Agriculture has been condemned once again by bipartisan lawmakers, months after it was revealed the department uses taxpayer money to fund thousands of deadly kitten experiments.

Then, the department harvests parasites and kills the kittens by discarding them through 'incineration,' Bishop said.

FEMA puts off test of emergency system that lets Trump text every U.S. cellphone as Americans threaten to turn off their phones in protest because they fear he'll use it to carp about the Mueller probe

The Trump administration plans to send a message to every U.S. cellphone to test a previously unused presidential alert system. But some adversaries of the president would rather shut off their phones than hear his dry-run warning about a national emergency.

A test message from Donald Trump was originally scheduled for 2:18 p.m. EDT on Thursday. Now it's being pushed back to the same time on Oct. 3 because the Federal Emergency Management Agency is focused on responding to Tropical Depression Florence.

Internal Emails & Texts Reveal Mueller Team Conducted Meetings with MSM Reporters in Restaurants, Bars, Starbucks

Recently released emails from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office show his team members cavorting with mainstream media reporters outside the office.

Peter Carr is the chief spokesman for Mueller’s team. Emails obtained from the Special Counsel and released Tuesday by Freedom Watch reveal Carr’s out-of-the-office rendezvous and text conversations with the media elite in D.C.

Likewise, Carr admits he is not allowed to use his private cell phone in the office but freely communicates with reporters off hours and weekends on his iPhone, according to texts. But Carr’s cell phone is not listed as an official contact number for the Special Counsel’s media relations office. And according to texts, Carr has only divulged the number to select media clientele.

And is his phone secure? Is discussing details about Mueller’s sensitive and classified Trump investigation in a Starbucks secure?

Has The Era Of Autonomous Warfare Finally Arrived?

By Nicholas West

The global arms race for the latest weapons of war is a naturally escalating cycle of countries pursuing ways to dominate the battlefield of the future. Increasingly, that battlefield is a matrix of soldiers with traditional weapons, robots, drones and cyberweapons. Until this point, command over this matrix has ultimately been in the hands of humans. Now, however, many of the trends in artificial intelligence-driven autonomy are enabling data collection, analysis and potentially combat to be done by algorithms.

Another key signpost has entered the roadmap toward a future of autonomous systems capable of engaging in combat without human oversight. The U.S. military announced the first ever successful unmanned aerial “kill” of another aircraft during a previously unreported training exercise...

SARA CARTER: DOJ/FBI Colluding to Defy Trump Declassification Order – Will Deliver Docs Next Week WITH REDACTIONS

Investigative reporter Sara Carter told Lou Dobbs Wednesday evening that sources told her the DOJ and FBI will defy President Trump’s declassification order and deliver the Carter Page FISA docs and other records related to the Russia probe to the White House next week WITH REDACTIONS.

On Monday, President Trump went scorched earth and ordered an immediate declassification of Carter Page FISA docs. Trump also ordered the DOJ to publicly release all text messages WITHOUT REDACTION relating to the Russia investigation from James Comey, Andrew McCabe, Bruce Ohr, Lisa Page and Peter Strzok.

The Democrats lost their collective minds over President Trump’s declassification order and immediately got to work to undermine his authority.

The Justice Department’s inspector general announced on Tuesday that his office would investigate a Drug Enforcement Administration program linked to violent drug cartel attacks in Mexico that have left dozens, possibly hundreds, of people dead or missing.

In a letter to senior congressional Democrats, Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz said that an internal review had flagged the DEA’s Sensitive Investigative Units program as “an area of high risk.” His office, he wrote, would examine the drug agency’s management of the program and whether internal controls are in place to ensure that “DEA operations, information and personnel are protected from compromise.”

Top SWAT Cop, Firefighter, Gov’t Employees Among Dozens Busted in Child Sex Sting Operation

The sting involved inviting the would-be child predators to a home where they thought they were meeting an underage boy or girl for sex.

“When they showed up at our undercover house seeking to meet their intended victims for sex, they were arrested,” said Grewal. “The defendants are now charged with serious crimes and are either behind bars or subject to very stringent pre-trial monitoring.”

Conte was one of 24 men to show up at the house. He allegedly told the girl he was only 19 and admitted to having sex with other children.

“Conte claimed during his chats that he was a 19-year-old male, believing that he was chatting with a 15-year-old girl. He allegedly said that he had had sex with underage girls, and wanted to meet the girl to ‘get naked.’ He had condoms in his pocket when he was arrested,” Grewal said.

State Legislator Says 11-Year-Old Tased By Cop Deserved It And Her Parents Probably Suck

Cincinnati police officer Kevin Brown’s decision to fire a Taser at an 11-year-old girl suspected of shoplifting from a grocery store in August immediately drew criticism from city officials and advocates.

But Ohio state Representative John Becker had a different take. Had it been his daughter, he announced in an August newsletter, “I’d be ashamed and embarrassed that she did something stupid enough to get herself tased.”

This is even worse than the police union's take on the incident, which referred to the completely expected backlash as "kneejerk." But, hey, I guess deciding to tase an 11-year-old in the back -- one who reportedly was all of 4'11'' and 90 pounds -- couldn't possibly be portrayed as a kneejerk reaction by a law enforcement officer. When force isn't truly needed, we can be sure some cops will deploy it anyway.
