Why the UK, the EU and the US Gang-Up on Russia

For the greater part of a decade the US, the UK and the EU have been carrying out a campaign to undermine and overthrow the Russian government and in particular to oust President Putin. Fundamental issues are at stake including the real possibility of a nuclear war.

The most recent western propaganda campaign and one of the most virulent is the charge launched by the UK regime of Prime Minister Theresa May. The Brits have claimed that Russian secret agents conspired to poison a former Russian double-agent and his daughter in England , threatening the sovereignty and safety of the British people. No evidence has ever been presented. Instead the UK expelled Russian diplomats and demands harsher sanctions, to increase tensions. The UK and its US and EU patrons are moving toward a break in relations and a military build-up.

A number of fundamental questions arise regarding the origins and growing intensity of this anti-Russian animus.

Mass Stranding Kills Almost 150 Pilot Whales

Dozens of whales tragically died on the southwestern tip of Australia in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

Sometime between late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, more than 150 short-finned pilot whales beached themselves on Hamelin Bay in Western Australia. Piled upon one another, weakly thrashing, they slowly perished before a scatter of saddened onlookers. By 9:30 AM, more than half were dead.

Officials shut down the beach and issued a “shark alert” in order to clear the water. Time was short and with each passing moment, there were fewer left to save. But working with these massive, powerful mammals in unpredictable weather conditions was a risk — not only for the whales but for the people desperately working to save their lives.

The move was largely hailed by conservatives — even though some criticized his support for the Iraq War. Donald Trump Signs Bloated $1.3 Trillion Omnibus Bill, Cites Military Funding

President Donald Trump signed Congress’s $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill on Friday afternoon, despite widespread criticism of the legislation from his supporters.

The president described the 2,232-page bill as “ridiculous” but said he felt the need to sign it because of his duty to protect the country.

“As a matter of national security, I’ve signed this omnibus budget bill,” Trump said. “There are a lot of things I’m unhappy about in this bill. I say to Congress: I will never sign another bill like this again.”

Why Is California Governor Brown Conducting Nuclear Explosion Drills in Sacramento?

Have you ever heard of a SNAP drill? It is a drill where a terrorist event is being rehearsed, along with the response, an the drill actually turns into a live event. The 7/7 Subway bombings, the Boston Marathon and of course, 9/11. Fortunately, as we all held our collective breath, this drill passed without incident. However, it is curious that this drill, in large part, was sponsored by a State that cannot pay its bills, and yet, they had the ability and resources to carry out the following?

On March 22nd California authorities, headed by the very people that want exit California from the United States:

“First Responder Exercise @ #SleepTrainArena THUR.3/22. Very Realistic but don’t worry. Only an exercise. Fire trucks, Helicopters, Ambulances, “Victims” (Actors) & Media. We’re just training to serve YOU,”

Serve us from what? Save us from the next attempted false flag event?

Hungary Warns of ‘Global Government’ That Will ‘Strip People of Religious, National, Family Identities’

Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly László Kövér has warned in a conference speech that “both ethnic majorities and minorities” are facing the same threat: the possibility of “global government”.
In his address at a conference Monday, the founding member of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s conservative Fidesz party stated that “the new technique and ideology of government is aimed at creating (societies) without an identity”.

Referring to proponents of global governance as “potential colonists”, Mr. Kövér said: “They want to strip people of their religious, national, family, and even sexual identities so that they are no longer able to recognise, express or enforce their own interests.”

Hungary has been at the forefront of the battle against the erosion of the nation-state and conservative values with Prime Minister Orbán, vowing last month to put “Hungary first” and fight those within the European Union who “want to change the Christian identity of Hungary and Europe”.

Berlusconi Proposes Coalition Between Right-Wingers and 5-Star Which Could ‘Pierce Brussels Through the Heart’

Four-time prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has suggested Italy’s centre-right coalition team up with the populist Five-Star Movement (M5S) to form a government which would send shockwaves through the European Union.
The 81-year-old Forza Italia leader last held office himself in 2011, when he was forced out by an EU-directed coup for failing to co-operate with the bloc’s leading figures on the Eurozone crisis.

His party formed a coalition with Matteo Salvini’s nationalist Lega party — formerly Lega Nord, or the Northern League — and the smaller Brothers of Italy party ahead of the Italian elections in early March, and came in first place, with Salvini’s outfit leading the pack.

However, the alliance did not win a large enough share of the vote to form a majority government, and Berlusconi is seeking to establish whether a programme of government can be arranged with the anti-establishment M5S — now Italy’s single-largest party by far.

Vatican Cracks Down on Critics of Pope Francis

he Vatican has taken new measures to punish critics of Pope Francis in a move that seems to belie the pope’s earlier calls for greater dialogue and debate within the Church.
On Thursday, the Rome-based Sovereign Order of Malta, which reports directly to the Holy See, suspended historian Henry Sire after he was revealed to be the author of the bestselling book The Dictator Pope: The Inside Story of the Francis Papacy, a critical examination of the pontificate of Pope Francis.

Meanwhile the Vatican has hired the international law firm of Baker McKenzie to force a small Spanish website called InfoVaticana.com to close its doors, allegedly for its sometimes critical tone toward aspects of the Francis papacy. The firm recently threatened a lawsuit if Infovaticana isn’t shut down and “its internet domain transferred to the Vatican.”

The car's 19-year-old female driver had entered a construction zone on the highway, and when she tried to shift from the local to the fast lane, the car lost control and hit the concrete divider wall along the side of the road. A moment later the electric car burst into flames. It was unclear if the autopilot was involved in the crash, but the the good news was that the driver survived the dramatic crash unscathed.

Spending bill includes big boost for Jewish groups seeking security money

An omnibus spending bill approved by Congress more than doubles spending for security grants that have been overwhelmingly tapped by Jewish institutions.

The $1.3 trillion bill approved Thursday includes $60 million for the security grants, up from $25 million last year. More than 90 percent of the grants have been used to harden security at Jewish institutions since the nonprofit security grant program was launched in 2005.

Nathan Diament, the Washington director of the Orthodox Union, one of the lead advocates for the grants, said a spike in threats on Jewish institutions over the last year drove the increase. According to the Anti-Defamation League, anti-Semitic incidents in the U.S. in 2017 increased by 43 percent over 2016, not including a spate of bomb threats carried out against Jewish institutions by a Jewish man in Israel.

“We didn’t have to educate members of Congress that the past year has seen an increased set of threats and activity,” Diament said in an interview.

Trump Plans Expulsion of Russian Envoys Over U.K. Attack

National Security Council has prepared recommendations
White House has been divided over how to respond to Putin
President Donald Trump is preparing to expel dozens of Russian diplomats from the U.S. in response to the nerve-agent poisoning of a former Russian spy in the U.K., two people familiar with the matter said Saturday.

Trump agreed with the recommendation of advisers and the expulsions are likely to be announced on Monday, the people said, though they cautioned that Trump’s decision may not be final. Trump is prepared to act but wants to be sure European allies will take similar steps against Russia before doing so, aides said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but...has anyone in President Trump's inner circle managed to mention to him that such expulsion is generally considered a prelude to war, not just a war of words, but a shooting war?!?

Or, with Pompeo in at State, and Bolton appointed as NSA, is this, indeed, the plan?!?

And because Europe wants to trade with Russia, he has utterly zero assurances that they will be on the same page with him on this, other than the UK, whose leadership is desperate to distract the British people from its lousy performance so far.

Weekly Update: New Lawsuit on Clinton Pay-to-Play

Judicial Watch Files New Lawsuit on Clinton Pay-to-Play Issues
Judicial Watch meticulously documented Hillary Clinton’s use of the State Department to take care of donors to the Clinton Foundation. She and Bill are the poster children for pay-to-play.

Cheng was deputy chief of protocol of the United States from July 2009-July 2011. Following his tenure at the State Department, Cheng joined the Clinton Family Foundation as director of development, and then in April 2015 became finance director of the Hillary for America presidential campaign.

Calling for Arms Talks with Russia, Is the U.S. Raising a White Flag?

Vladimir Putin’s presentation of Russia’s new weapons systems during his address to the Federal Assembly on March 1 seems to have finally elicited the desired response from its target audience in Washington, D.C. In that presentation, Putin spoke about strategic weapons systems employing cutting-edge technology that, he claimed, is more than a decade ahead of U.S. and other competition.

He scored a direct hit in the Pentagon, where senior generals were left dumbfounded. But, as is normally the case, when these gentlemen need time to collect their wits, we heard first only denial: that the Russians were bluffing, that they really have nothing ready, that these are only projects, and that the U.S. already has all of the same, but is holding it back in reserve.

Of course, not everyone among the U.S. political elite bought into this stop-gap response.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This does give one just the slightest hint of hope in a return to a more enlightend US/Russia relationship; but I will believe those talks will bear fruit when I see it.

Neocon Takeover of Washington Completed

Pompeo at State and Bolton as Trump’s national security advisor completed the neocon takeover of Trump’s geopolitical agenda – Wall Street running domestic affairs.

The combination represents a major setback for world peace and stability, greater aggression likely, along with the triumph of neoliberal harshness over social justice – a dismal and frightening state of affairs.

What to expect ahead? War in Syria is more likely to escalate than wind down, an unthinkable US/Russia confrontation ominously possible.

The Iran nuclear deal is either doomed, or likely to be gutted by Washington, accomplishing the same thing – with only tepid, ineffective opposition from P5+1 countries Britain, France and Germany.

The EU most often bends to US will when enough pressure is applied.

A relatively quiet Ukraine period could explode in greater Kiev war on Donbass, US-supplied heavy weapons and training aiding its aggression.

Webmaster's Commentary:

At this defining moment in world history, I despair about the current trajectory of both domestic, and foreign policies, creating more income inequality at home, and more wars abroad.

And the worst thing about these coming wars is, that they may not be wars the US military is able to win, or from which it can extricate itself gracefully.

You can nearly bet on a return to the draft, which will be coming for both our young men and young women, but of course, not in an election ior mid-term election year.

Video: Israeli police destroy Palestinian tombstones in Jerusalem cemetery

Due to the fact that many slain Palestinians were buried in al-Mujahidin cemetery, it became a place where Palestinians from Jerusalem, and those visiting from the West Bank and elsewhere, would visit to pay their respects.

The tombstones of the slain Palestinians were engraved about a year-and-a-half ago with a verse from the Quran and the sentence “graves of heroic martyrs of the Intifada of Jerusalem.” Israeli authorities objected to the use of the word “hero,” and demanded the cemetery administration removed the new addition.

After the administration refused, the Israeli officers broke in in the middle of the night and destroyed the tombstones with hammers and other hand tools.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hammers and other hand tools became "weapons of mass destruction", in the hands of IDF officers who objected to how the Palestinians saw their recent history at Israeli hands.

Because to the Israeli mind set, if they don't like how the Palestinians see their recent history, they believe that they have every, perfect right to destroy those cultural elements to which they object; even...tombstones.

UK's Porton Down denies it could have been source of nerve agent that poisoned ex-spy

Britain's military research facility at Porton Down said it could not have been the source of the nerve agent that poisoned Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in the city of Salisbury this month, the BBC reported on Friday.

The BBC quoted Porton Down Chief Executive Gary Aitkenhead as saying there was "no way" the substance could have come from its laboratories as Russia has suggested.

He said the laboratory had the "highest levels" of controls and security, the BBC said.

Russia denies any involvement in the attack on the pair who have been critical in hospital since they were found unconscious on March 4 on a bench in Salisbury.

Russia's EU ambassador Vladimir Chizhov noted in an interview with the BBC earlier this week that the Porton Down lab is only eight miles (11km) from Salisbury, insinuating that may have been the source

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF Porton Down Chief Executive Gary Aitkenhead is making this statement, one has to wonder then, if its leadership was given orders from the highest level of the British government to make this happen, as something to be blamed on Russia.

And of course, one has to recall Porton Down's egregious history, when it came to experiments on human beings:

There are also examples of government-run research that took advantage of the vulnerability of the subjects to ensure their participation and which resulted in the subjects experiencing severe harms, such as the Tuskegee Syphilis trials or the UK-run Porton Down chemical experiments in which 11,000 military personnel were exposed to mustard and nerve gas between 1939 and 1989.

Wait, am I reading this correctly?!? 11,000 guys were exposed at Porton Down to these chemicals?!?

Mengele would have been so proud!!

So NO, Porton Down Chief Executive Gary Aitkenhead; morally "squeaky clean", and the institution you represent are mutually exclusive, and for damned good historical reason.

And the question no one is asking is, why would Putin do this, so many years after the damage had been done to Russian intelligence?!?

The short answer is, he wouldn't; Prime Minister Theresa May is playing this for all it's worth, because Brexit is falling apart at the seams, and she is desperate for a distraction.

I can tell you, Prime Minister May, this is absolutely not working.

The death toll is expected to rise, with hospital sources telling Al Jazeera that a number of wounded people were in serious condition.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Take a good look at that kid in this image, bleeding out, as an older adult scrambles to get him care; looking at the paucity of medical care here, the kid just may not make it.

Welcome to the world of another young victim of the US/NATO occupation of Afghanistan, 17 years on.

And as someone who loves kids, and believes all kids should have a decent future, I cannot look at this child, and begin to use the word "collateral damage" with a straight face.

What the Trump admininstration and NATO should be doing right now, because there is absolutely no military metric by which either can say that the US has "won" in Afghanistan, is to have troops leave as safely as possible, then negotiate with whatever government is left in Kabul for the pipeline rights, and the opium field rights.

But of course, that.... would be logical.

Illegal Wars: The New American Way

The U.S. military stands astride the Greater Mideast region on behalf of an increasingly rogue-like regime in Washington, D.C. Worse still, this isn’t a Donald Trump problem, per se. No, three successive administrations – Democratic and Republican – have widened the scope of a global “war” on a tactic (terror), on the basis of two at best vague, and at worst extralegal, congressional authorizations for the use of force (AUMF). Indeed, the US is veritably addicted to waging undeclared, unwinnable wars with unconvincing legal sanction.

Britain urges Israel to improve treatment of detained Palestinian children

Britain called on Israel to improve the treatment of Palestinian children in military detention on Friday and said Israel should do more to safeguard vulnerable people in its care.

The Foreign Office issued a statement in the wake of the sentencing of Palestinian teenage girl Ahed Tamimi, who was arrested after kicking and slapping an Israeli soldier in the occupied West Bank in December.

Tamimi, who was 16 at the time of the incident, accepted a plea deal this week under which she will be sentenced to eight months in prison, her lawyer said.

Alistair Burt, Britain’s Minister for the Middle East, said in the statement: “The conviction and sentencing of Ahed Tamimi is emblematic of how the unresolved (Israeli-Palestinian) conflict is blighting the lives of a new generation who should be growing up together in peace, but continue to be divided.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I love how Reuters, very carefully and conveniently, leaves out of this story, the reason why Ahed Tamimi slapped and kicked the IDF member:

The Story Behind Ahed Tamimi's Slap: Her Cousin's Head Shattered by Israeli Soldier's Bullet

The story goes on to state the following:

"Half a head.

The left side of his face is twisted, swollen, fragmented, scarred; theres congealed blood by his nose, stitches in his face; one eye is shut, a seam line stretches across his whole scalp. A boy's face turned scar-face. Some of his skull bones were removed in surgery and won't be returned to their place for another six months."

Now, the IDF apparently believes that such acts against Palestinian kids should be accepted, both by the Palestinians and the world, and that they should be allowed to continue to do these brutal acts with savage impunity.

Ahed Tamimi was of a different opinion on this, when she learned what had happened to her cousin at the hands of the IDF.

The IDF would kill every Palestinian child it has incarcerated, if they thought they could get away with it; fortunately, they cannot, at this point in Israeli history, because the unblinking gaze of a 24/7 news cycle is bearing down on them, and that is starting to make a difference.

Even Israeli Rabbis encourage complete ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians, their "Final Solution" for ridding Israel of them. Take a look at the following story from Tikun Olam last year:

Israeli Chief Rabbis Endorse Ethnic Cleansing, Palestinian Servitude

I can never advocate or condone violence; but I can understand why, when a people are so violently oppressed and their history systematically and pathologically erased, violence can happen.

War-loving, Muslim-hating John Bolton wants to give ‘pieces’ of Palestine to Jordan and Egypt

The appointment of John Bolton to be Donald Trump’s national security adviser represents the neoconservative restoration, firmly ending the chapter in which Trump claimed to be a non-interventionist. Even Never-Trump neocons are happy today. The intemperate and Islamophobic Bolton is fiercely opposed to the Iran Deal, is militantly opposed to Russian influence in the Middle East, has called for declaring war against Iran and North Korea, and has pronounced the two-state solution dead.

Many today fear that Trump will give us another war. Senator Ed Markey:

John Bolton supports proactively bombing Iran and conducting a first strike on North Korea without provocation. Appointing him to be Nat Sec Advisor is a grave danger to the American people and a clear message from @realDonaldTrump that he is gearing up for military conflict.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This appointment of Bolton as President Trump's National Security Advisor, an appointment over which Congress has absolutely zero oversight, is officially horrible, and does not augur well for any kind of peace in the Middle East.

In fact, this appointment almost guarantees a war against Iran, which will almost inevitably mean war with Russia.

President Trump has morphed from the non-interventionist on the campaign trail to an avid supporter of war, as the only way in which the Unhinged Surveilled State of America can ever acheive its geopolitical goals.

The only reason we are looking at potential peace talks between the US and North Korea is that when Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu visited Washington for AIPAC earlier this month, he gave President Trump his marching orders, which were: "Forget about North Korea; regime change Tehran for me!!"

One has to wonder just what, precisely, Netanyahu has on President Trump, to make him so willing to sacrifice so much potential blood and money toward the achievement of this goal.

But like that architypical dream about a slo-mo train wreck, I can see this war coming, and soon.

I am bitterly disappointed with him for this, and think that, once again, the American people had utterly zero choice in the last election in 2016; it was warmonger vs/warmonger, both completely vetted, and blessed, by the Israeli political establishment, as their supreme candidates of choice, and the US military/industrial complex, as demonstrated by the passage of the omnibus spending bill yesterday.

Majority of $1.3 Trillion US Omnibus Spending Bill Goes to Military

The last minute signing of the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill in the US is a big windfall for the Pentagon, who will be getting the majority of the money, in the realm of $700 billion. This includes 14 new ships, 28 new helicopters, and 56 of the costly F-35 warplanes. This $700 billion does not include other military-related spending, including the VA.

This is part of a $61 billion spending increase over the previous year, and virtually every aspect of the Pentagon is getting more money, more equipment, higher pay, and just general boosts in funding. Which isn’t to say everyone’s happy.

Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), the House Armed Services Committee chairman, complained that the massive increase is “not enough to fix our problems. Though the military budget is tentatively to swell to $716 next year, policy-makers seem to be setting the stage for another multi-month round of outdoing one another on increases.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You cannot simply throw more money at the problem, which is little to no oversight of weapons manufacturers' programs, from concept to execution, and expect the problems here to magically go away.

In Russia and China, these governments are getting far better outcomes to their weaponry manufacturing for far less money than for the US government is spending.

As we have seen with Russia's campaign in Syria, Russian weapons work as advertised; they field test brilliantly; and the cost overruns are far less than we have here in the US.

But in every weapons procurement contract from henceforward, the executives of weapons manufacturing companies have to understand that if their product does not test out as advertised; if they are delivered far too late to be of real help, and have come with stiff over-rides on costs, someone is going to jail, because not doing this is a form of treason against our military, things will not change in the military/industrial complex culture.

And very unfortunately, because weapons companies are allowed to contribute lavishly to both sides of the aisle in this country, both overtly and covertly, this corporate culture in this industry will not change until pigs discover they are aerodynamic in nature.

This has to be stopped, but those congressional representatives feeding at the collective teat of these companies, will never want these practices to end.

Large swath of West Texas oil patch is heaving and sinking at alarming rates

Two giant sinkholes near Wink, Texas, may just be the tip of the iceberg, according to a new study that found alarming rates of new ground movement extending far beyond the infamous sinkholes. U.S. steel tariffs meet barrage of criticism at WTO

- U.S. President Donald Trump’s steel and aluminum tariffs met a barrage of criticism at a World Trade Organization meeting on Friday, as the European Union, Japan, Australia and others joined a debate started by China and Russia.

The EU representative dismissed U.S. assertions that the steps were needed to protect national security, saying Washington was just trying to support its industry, a Geneva trade official said.

WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo said it was positive to see the discussion happening within the WTO’s walls, since taking disputes outside greatly increased “the risk of escalation in a confrontation that will have no winners”.

“Disrupting trade flows will jeopardize the global economy at a time when economic recovery, though fragile, has been increasingly evident around the world,” he said in a statement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What concerns me deeply here is the ability of trade wars to escalate into actual shooting wars; I am hoping like heck that this doesn't happen wit either Russia or China.

The so-called ‘petro’ digital currency, which was successfully launched by Venezuela last month, will be traded for several global currencies, including the Russian ruble.
“Starting March 23, all legal and physical entities will be able to purchase the petro directly… within the next 15 days for convertible currencies: yuan, rubles, Turkish liras and euro,” said Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

He described these are the most important currencies for “the economic future of the planet.”

Maduro said state companies that are exporting goods, such as the country's energy giant PDVSA, can already trade for petro. “PDVSA and those enterprises that trade for foreign currency are authorized from now on to receive ‘el petro’ for their export deliveries,” he said, adding that they will be able to supply products for the Venezuelan cryptocurrency "to all countries and enterprises in the world.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

One can only guess at what the US government's next step against this will be, and how effective it can be, given these financial arrangements between Venezuela and Russia.

DeepMind explores inner workings of AI

As with the human brain, the neural networks that power artificial intelligence systems are not easy to understand.

DeepMind, the Alphabet-owned AI firm famous for teaching an AI system to play Go, is attempting to work out how such systems make decisions.

By knowing how AI works, it hopes to build smarter systems.

But researchers acknowledged that the more complex the system, the harder it might be for humans to understand.

The fact that the programmers who build AI systems do not entirely know why the algorithms that power it make the decisions they do, is one of the biggest issues with the technology.
