About 18 months ago, investigators appeared to sharpen their focus on Bruce E. Ivins, a veteran anthrax researcher, whom they placed under intensive surveillance as they examined every aspect of his life and work.
Since Dr. Ivins’s suicide last week, F.B.I. officials have said prosecutors were preparing to indict him for sending the anthrax letters, which killed five people, although charges appear to have been a few weeks away.
Now, of course, Sandia labs has shown that the special investigative science invented by the FBI for this case was about as useful as the now-discredited Neutron activation analysis used to claim that Lee Oswald was the only one shooting in Dealey Plaza back in 1963.
But here is the point all these articles about the anthrax attacks avoid. Regardless of whether you suspect Dr. Stephen Hatfill, or Dr. Bruce Ivins, or Dr. Philip Zack of committing the crime, the letters themselves, written to look like they were from semi-literate Arabs, PROVES THERE WAS AN ATTEMPT TO FRAME ARAB MUSLIMS FOR TERRORISM INSIDE THE UNITED STATES!
So, let us include that in our efforts to find the real criminal from the above suspects. Of the three doctors, which one would have a reason to frame Arabs for his crime?
The facts is that only one of the three, Dr. Philip Zack, has a prior record of racially motivated acts. And by odd coincidence, Dr. Zack is the one man actually detected by the security systems entering the lab where the anthrax used in the letters was kept, without authorization after losing his job over a racially motivated attack no an Egyptian co-worker!
But the FBI has never investigated Dr. Zack. Indeed they seemed to want to avoid him as much as possible.
