Conyers calls for criminal investigation into Bush administration

The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee has called for both a criminal investigation and a blue-ribbon panel to look into "Bush administration abuses of power and misconduct."

Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) told the National Press Club Friday that both avenues should be pursued because a criminal investigation would be done in private, while a blue-ribbon "9/11-type" panel would work publicly and would create a public record of the Bush administration's actions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Conyers has a very track record of making very bellicose claims about vowing to get to the truth about various issues, but somehow never quite gets there.

His subpoenas have been consistently ignored, and nothing has happened so far with many other investigations he has chaired. He never throws down a serious Contempt of Congress citation against those who ignore him.

This little performance for the National Press Club appears to be more sound and fury, signifying nothing, which, unfortunately, the American people have been accustomed to getting from Conyers.
