Radiation cloud mystery as fallout 1,000 times worse than normal drifts over Europe

Scientists are trying to work out what caused the spike in radiation engulfing northern parts of the continent.

Russia's state-run nuclear company Rosatom has denied being responsible for any accidents or incidents that may have caused the radiation spike.

Moscow yesterday acknowledged the cloud for the first time after they were accused of being responsible for a radioactive leak.

Data from Russia’s weather service Roshydromet confirmed “extremely high pollution” recorded in late September and early October.

Nuclear companies in neighbouring Kazakhstan also denied being responsible for the radiation.
