Liberia’s central bank chief resigns

The governor of the Central Bank of Liberia has resigned two years into his five-year term, shortly after local media sources reported that he had major disagreements with the country’s president over the financing of a loan.

Milton Weeks met with staff on July 3 to announce his resignation had been accepted by president George Weah. Deputy governor for operations Charles Sirleaf has been appointed as the interim leader of the central bank until a permanent replacement can be found.
