Mark Zuckerberg's San Francisco hospital REFUSES private health plans leaving patients with $20,000 bill for bike crash and $10,000 for a migraine

A hospital sponsored by Mark Zuckerberg penalises patients with private health coverage and charges up to $20,000 for treatment after a bike accident, it has emerged.

Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital - named after the Facebook founder following a $75million donation - does not accept any private health insurance plans, collecting the high charges in a bid to subsidize poorer patients.

The policy is in place despite the hospital's position as the only Level I trauma center in San Francisco, leaving patients with huge bills when they are treated in its emergency room.
