Lebanese Paper: Washington Threatening Kurds Not to Vote for Bill against US Military Buildup in Iraq

The Arabic-language al-Akhbar newspaper quoted informed sources as saying on Saturday that the US consulate in Erbil has warned the Kurds not to vote for the bill or wait for Washington's evacuation of its bases in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

A large number of Iraqi political groups have called for the approval of a bill which necessitates withdrawal of foreign military forces from Iraq but the Kurds are still in doubt about their final decision over the case.

In a relevant development earlier this month, Iraq’s two leading Shiite parliamentary coalitions of Sairoon (Marching Towards Reform) and al-Fatah (Conquest) renewed their calls for the withdrawal of American forces from the Arab country.

A delegation from Sairoon bloc, led by Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, held talks with members of Fatah alliance, headed by secretary general of the Badr Organization, Hadi al-Ameri.
