US Attempting to Prevent Revival of Adana Agreement Between Turkey, Syria | WHAT REALLY HAPPENED

US Attempting to Prevent Revival of Adana Agreement Between Turkey, Syria

The US is attempting to block efforts to revive the Adana agreement signed between Ankara and Damascus in 1998 days after Turkey did not oppose Moscow’s proposal for deployment of the Russian forces at the bordering areas between Syria and Turkey.

The Arabic-language al-Watan newspaper quoted the UAE’s ‘The National’ as reporting that the administration of US President Donald Trump is after creation of an international force consisting of 2,000 NATO soldiers instead of the safe zone desired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Northern Syria.

Analysts referred to the recent remarks by Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Chavushoglu on the possibility for the deployment of Russian forces at the bordering areas in Northern Syria, saying that it means success of Russia’s efforts to persuade Ankara to return to the Adana protocol.

They added that the US measures to replace its troops with NATO forces in regions that it would withdraw from means Washington’s attempts to distort efforts by Moscow to revive the agreement.
