Cancer-causing foam could be banned in military training next year, off military bases entirely by 2029

House lawmakers would force military bases to stop using toxic firefighting foam in almost all training activities and ban them altogether over the next decade under legislation unveiled this week.

The measure, part of the House Armed Services Committee’s initial draft of the annual defense authorization bill, would also make available millions of dollars in environmental clean-up funding to National Guard bases, to address chemical contamination that can seep into groundwater and cause serious health concerns.

At issue are the use of cancer-causing perfluoroalky and polyfluoroalkyl substances ? more commonly known as PFAS ? that are found in the firefighting foam and over the years have found their way into water systems on military bases and surrounding

Webmaster's Commentary:

My question is, why will it take the US military 10 years to ban the use of a chemical which it knows is a carcinogen?!?

How are the member of the House of Representatives, going to comfort grieving families and friends of the military who will certainly get cancer, in this ten year period?!?

The only logical answer, is that people who get cancers from this foam, during this decade-long period before the ban, are expendable, because the US government is going to reinstitute the draft very soon; so if someone has a reasonable explanation, other than this, I would be very keen to hear it!!
