US Secretary of State Pompeo defends Saudi arms sales after damning watchdog report on Yemen

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has defended Washington’s arms sales to Saudi Arabia after a watchdog report said the State Department failed to “fully assess” the risk of civilian deaths in war-torn Yemen.

Pompeo said on Wednesday that his department “did everything by the book” in regards to arms sales to Riyadh in May 2019.

“I am proud of the work that my team did. We got a really good outcome. We prevented the loss of lives,” he claimed.

A US State Department watchdog has found that risks of civilian casualties were not adequately assessed by the department when it approved arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the two main aggressor countries in a war on Yemen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It's all about Trump's getting those contributions from the members of the US's military industrial complex, for being allowed to make those sales to the Saudi government, and making out like bandits, right, Mikey?!?

You, sir, are a very interesting piece of work; a man who claims to be a Christian, but appears to have had his conscience surgically removed, before you took the job as Secretary of State.

As a sister Christian with a conscience, I find that a very hard combination to fathom.

The images of dead Yemeni babies and toddlers, shot to death or wounded for life with weapons the US sold Saudi Arabia, have seared my conscience. And for those of you wondering, the following images are gritty, horrifically graphic, and, if you still have one, will break your heart.

Mr. Secretary, this has to stop; and while I cannot personally stop it, the only true power I have, as a Christian Pacifist Activist, who never advocates violence, is to witness to the ultimate consequences of selling these weapons to a government which defiles its own humanity by assassinating, and wounding innocent babies, toddlers, women, and the medically fragile elderly.
