Moment Trump appears to gasp for air after tearing off mask on return to the White House: Biden leads critics accusing Trump of downplaying COVID by telling America 'don't be afraid of the virus'

Joe Biden led a chorus of condemnation last night after Donald Trump told Americans not to be 'afraid' of a virus which has killed 200,000 people and whipped off his face mask for a photo-op despite appearing to have trouble breathing on his return to the White House.

Trump declared he felt 'great', told people not to let the virus 'dominate your lives' and claimed he could even be immune from COVID-19 in a video filmed at the White House after his theatrical return from Walter Reed.

But the president's doctors say he may not be 'entirely out of the woods yet', with another dose of remdesivir to be administered today. Trump, 74, appeared to be grimacing and taking labored breaths as he stood on the White House balcony, with one doctor saying he was 'clearly in some distress with his breathing'.
