Red Cross: “Health Condition Of Hunger Striking Detainee Is Very Serious”

The International Red Cross (IRC) has expressed serious concern about the health condition of the hunger-striking detainee, Maher al-Akhras, 49, who continues his strike for the 88th day, demanding to be released.

The IRC said the detainee remains at the Israeli Kaplan medical center, and that its physicians are frequently visiting him to assess and closely monitor his health condition. The detainee is regarded to be on the verge of death.

The IRC added that its physicians are seriously concerned about his health, especially since al-Akhras might enter an irreversible condition and complications, specifically since his current condition is considered profoundly serious.

It also said that it follows the conditions of hunger-striking detainees to ensure they receive adequate medical attention and can communicate with their families.
