Our Dissonance

I ADMIT that I am not free from this nostalgia. Something happens to me, too, when I hear the songs, and I join in them involuntarily.

Like many others, I am suffering from “cognitive dissonance”. The heart and the head are not coordinated. They operate on different wavelengths. In other words: my head knows that the Zionist enterprise has imposed a historic injustice on the people who lived in this land. But my heart remembers what we felt in those days.

Webmaster's Commentary:

People are always taught that their nation is a noble achievement, just and honorable. But like a child with an abusive parent, there comes a time when one must grow up and face the reality of the world as it truly is.

Why It's Good To Pay Taxes

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Reader comment)

And the media spins, spins, spins and spins: Yes, tax cuts are BAD. Having no money of your own is GOOD. DOUBLE PLUS GOOD.

We are probably the most over-taxed nation on planet earth and yet these idiots are trying to tell us what a "bargain" we are getting. Some quick facts: despite Michael Moore's propaganda, our health care system is falling the hell apart. You do NOT go to the emergency room and get helped within a few minutes or even a half hour. Even if you are gushing blood from a head wound you'll end up sitting there for SIX HOURS. Yeah, what a great "bargain" we are getting.

Bend over taxpayer. We're not done with you yet.

NASA photos show giant 'cosmic hand'

New photographs released by NASA have captured images of a vast stellar formation resembling a human hand reaching across space.

The image, taken by NASA's space-based Chandra Observatory telescope, shows an X-ray nebula 150 light years across.

It shows what appear to be ghostly blue fingers -- thumb and pinky clearly discernible from index, ring and middle digits -- reaching into a sparkling cloud of fiery red.

Man bites snake in epic struggle

A Kenyan man bit a python who wrapped him in its coils and dragged him up a tree during a fierce three-hour struggle, police have told the BBC.

The serpent seized farm worker Ben Nyaumbe in the Malindi area of Kenya's Indian Ocean coast at the weekend.

Mr Nyaumbe bit the snake on the tip of the tail during the exhausting battle in the village of Sabaki.

Police rescued Mr Nyaumbe and captured the 13ft (4m) reptile, before taking it to a sanctuary, but it later escaped.

94 Years of Serfdom

This April 15 is the 94th year that Americans have had to file an income tax. For most Americans, the day is a non-event. The federal and state governments have already collected the taxes due by withholding from each paycheck over the course of the calendar year. Most Americans never saw the money and have no real idea that they earned it.

Some Americans have their incomes over-withheld as a form of forced savings. They look forward to tax time as it means they will receive a refund check from the government that they can use for a summer vacation, a big screen TV, a new appliance, or a down payment on a new car.

Few Americans realize that over the last 94 years they have been enserfed and have no more rights to their own labor than medieval serfs or 19th century slaves.

Iran offers new package to break nuclear weapons deadlock

Tehran is preparing new proposals to break the deadlock over its nuclear programme, the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said today in a sign of thawing relations with the west.

Avoiding his usual fiery rhetoric, Ahmadinejad said: "Today we are preparing a new package. Once it becomes ready, we will present that package. It is a package that constitutes peace and justice throughout the globe and also respects other nations' rights."

In an apparent reference to recent overtures from President Barack Obama, and a signal from Washington and Europe that they are prepared to make significant concessions to get Iran to restart nuclear negotiations, Ahmadinejad told a crowd of thousands in Kerman, south-eastern Iran, that circumstances had changed.

Antibiotic Prescription is Someomes Immoral - A Deadly Germ Unleashed by Antibiotics

The New York Times Tara Parker-Hope - on Health -For years, health officials have sounded the alarm about overuse of antibiotics and the emergence of so-called “superbugs” that resist treatment. But the spread of a deadly germ linked with antibiotic use shows just how immediate the threat really is.

The culprit is Clostridium difficile, a bacteria that can cause life-threatening infection, diarrhea and stomach pain. What is so frightening about C. difficile is that it is typically triggered by a round of antibiotic use.

Real, and threatened, terrorism boosts self-esteem

Progressives have often accused conservatives of playing on the politics of fear by over-emphasizing threats of terrorism. Given this research, this seems to be a misunderstanding of what conservatives actually accomplish with such hyperbole. Rather than scaring people, the over-emphasis actually aims to increase the general population's sense of value in belonging to the "American" identity group. It is actually a form of flag-waving, and what I like to call "glorifying the identity group," not fear-mongering.

While Spain proceeds to fulfill the Obama administration's duties to investigate and prosecute our war criminals, some of those most implicated remain in positions of high authority within our own intelligence and counter-terrorism agencies -- thanks to Senate Democrats such as Feinstein and Rockefeller.

Cutting back financial capitalism is America’s big test

Is the US Russia? The question seems provocative, if not outrageous. Yet the person asking it is Simon Johnson, former chief economist at the International Monetary Fund and a professor at the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In an article in the May issue of the Atlantic Monthly, Prof Johnson compares the hold of the “financial oligarchy” over US policy with that of business elites in emerging countries. Do such comparisons make sense? The answer is Yes, but only up to a point.

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Recession fueling right-wing extremism, U.S. says
By Jane Sutton Jane Sutton – Tue Apr 14, 3:56 pm ET

MIAMI (Reuters) – Right-wing extremists in the United States are gaining new recruits by exploiting fears about the economy and the election of the first black U.S. president, the Department of Homeland Security warned in a report to law enforcement officials.

"The report warned that military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat skills could be recruitment targets, especially those having trouble finding jobs or fitting back into civilian society.

The department "is concerned that right-wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to boost their violent capabilities," the report said."

US, Israel to stage extensive missile defense drill – report

Israeli defense officials told the daily that the purpose of the drills was to ensure “interoperability” between the Israeli and American missile defense systems, in case Washington was to deploy those systems to Israel in the event of a conflict with Iran, as it did ahead of the Gulf War in Iraq in 1991.

While the two allies have staged the Juniper Cobra exercise over the past five years, the Jerusalem Post said that this year’s drill will likely be “the most complex and extensive yet”, and will for the first time include the launch of interceptors.

It's pay rise time already for bailed out bankers

The obscene bonuses "earned" by bankers as a result of high-rolling reward schemes, it is universally agreed, were a major factor in the near-collapse of the global banking system last year. Barack Obama, Gordon Brown and government leaders around the world decreed that so-called "compensation" systems must be changed.

[Goldman Sachs], which was forced to convert from an investment bank to a commercial bank and accepted $10bn of US government money to survive last year's near-meltdown, has just announced its first-quarter earnings. As part of the filing, the bank revealed it has set aside more cash - 18% more, to be exact - to pay for "compensation and benefits" in the first three months of 2009 than it did a year ago.

Spend More, Get Less: Obama's Mirage

Together, health care and energy constitute about a quarter of the U.S. economy. If their costs increase, they will crowd out other spending. The president's policies might, as he says, create high-paying "green" or medical jobs. But if so, they will destroy old jobs elsewhere. Think about it. If you spend more for gasoline or electricity -- or for health insurance premiums -- then you spend less on other things, from meals out to home repair. Jobs in those sectors suffer.

Demjanjuk removed from Ohio home in wheelchair

U.S. immigration officers took John Demjanjuk from his Ohio home in a wheelchair on Tuesday to deport him to Germany, where an arrest warrant alleges the frail 89-year-old was a Nazi death camp guard. Demjanjuk was placed in a waiting van as his sobbing wife and other family members watched. As he was taken from the home, Demjanjuk moaned and said "I love you" in Ukrainian to his family members, said former son-in-law Ed Nishnic.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel must have its pound of flesh.

More to the point, Israel must be proven right even when they have clearly been so wrong.

The fact that Israel "acquired" Demjanjuk once before, tried him, sentenced him to death, and was about to execute him when evidence surfaced proving he was not "Ivan the Terrible" raises serious questions about all the other alleged war criminals persecuted by Israel. Were they really guilty? Did they deserve the punishments inflicted on them by Israel? If Israel made such a horrendous error with Demjanjuk, how can we assume all the other accused were actually guilty?

So, Israel must be proven right, after a fashion. Demjanjuk may not have been "Ivan the Terrible" but he fed the dogs at the slave labor camp and that by the good of Moses should be enough to convince anyone that Israel is right and just!

But of course, anyone outside the circle of fanatics who cannot stop living in the first half of the last century, the treatment of Demjanjuk only convinces us that the US and Israel have already fallen from their previous moral pinnacles and are just faded old husks of their former selves, reassuring themselves that they are still mighty warriors by publicly whipping a wheelchair-bound old man.

Tea Bag Terror: Protests Causing Scares, Evacuations At Congressional Offices

A recent email to hundreds of thousands of conservatives exhorted them to "Send a Tea Bag to Washington, D.C. for $1." Other activists have organized local efforts to mail tea bags to the offices of their members of Congress.

It's all part of the anti-Obama, anti-tax "tea party" movement, backed aggressively by corporate-funded "astroturf" organizations like FreedomWorks. But now one of their symbolic protests is drawing attention for the wrong reasons.

Local reports indicate that the practice of mailing actual tea bags to legislators has repeatedly raised security concerns, and sometimes forced the evacuation of congressional offices in anthrax-like scares.

9/11 Commission Counsel: Government Agreed to Lie About 9/11

The senior counsel to the 9/11 Commission - John Farmer - says that the government agreed not to tell the truth about 9/11, echoing the assertions of fellow 9/11 Commission members who concluded that the Pentagon were engaged in deliberate deception about their response to the attack.

10 years later, the real story behind Columbine

Their rampage put schools on alert for "enemies lists" made by troubled students, but the enemies on their list had graduated from Columbine a year earlier. Contrary to early reports, Harris and Klebold weren't on antidepressant medication and didn't target jocks, blacks or Christians, police now say, citing the killers' journals and witness accounts. That story about a student being shot in the head after she said she believed in God? Never happened, the FBI says now.

Celente Calls For 'Revolution' As The Only Solution

Taxed to death, angry at government bailouts, outraged by Wall Street greed, and bitterly resentful of a system that rewards the undeserving rich, the American public is ready to revolt.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And Obama's speech wasn't a convincer. He said what he has already said before and said it very well, but the long list of things he wants to accomplish was devoid of the least mention of just how he plans to do any of it. Short version: We're going to go on doing what we are doing and hope for the best.

Guns, Drugs Seized From Homeland Security Officer

A Homeland Security employee at Orlando International Airport is in the Brevard County Detention Center on numerous drug trafficking and gun charges.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED AND DESERT PEACE FEATURED IN TODAY’S JERUSALEM POST

For example, one of the premier internet anti-Semites runs his site (and home business) from the suburbs of Honolulu, Hawaii. This blogger, who claims to know “what really is happening” in the world, is a radical leftist/liberal type, whose site gets a fair amount of traffic, and seems to be a source of material for many other anti-Semitic blogs. Most of his content consists of links to “legitimate” news sites, with his commentary.

But reading his site, I’ve never seen this fellow address his own sins of occupation - the one where he is part of the horde of mainland Americans who have occupied Hawaii, breaking treaties signed with the sovereign Kingdom of Hawaii

Webmaster's Commentary:

Which proves that this asshole never actually visited this website or he would have seen THIS PAGE.

FLASHBACK - An Open Letter to Paul Wellstone

Senator Wellstone: I will not go on about the curious timing of your death. People are very impatient with conspiracy theories these days, even when past theories have revealed conspiracies. Still, I read with weary cynicism that you spoke to a meeting of war veterans in Willmar, Minnesota in October 2002 and told them that Dick Cheney said to you, "If you vote against the war in Iraq, the Bush Administration will do whatever is necessary to get you. There will be ramifications for you and the state of Minnesota." Days later, you were dead.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Relinked in light of the revelation that the US Government assassination squad reported directly to Dick Cheney.

Now that AIG has been incinerated in the mainstream media, Merrill has hidden itself under B of A’s (BAC) skirts and the dynamic duo of Lehman and Bear are no longer here to be kicked around, taxpayer furor is beginning to turn its attention to Goldman, and the blogosphere’s criticism of the once-teflon firm is reaching a boiling point.

USS Liberty: Cover Up

But Tordella was not prepared for what he heard. According to NSA documents - classified top secret - he was told that some senior officials in Washington wanted above all to protect Israel from embarrassment. "Captain Vineyard had mentioned during this conversation," wrote Tordella, "that consideration was then being given by some unnamed Washington authorities to sink[ing] the Liberty in order that newspaper men would be unable to photograph her and thus inflame public opinion against the Israelis.

Webmaster's Commentary:

U.S. may drop key condition for talks with Iran

The Obama administration and its European allies are preparing proposals that would shift strategy toward Iran by dropping a longstanding American insistence that Tehran rapidly shut down nuclear facilities during the early phases of negotiations over its atomic program, according to officials involved in the discussions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This approach, the "you give us what we want before we talk, and then we'll decide what if anything to give in return" was a non-starter for two reasons.

First, everything Iran is doing is permitted under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which both the US and Iran have signed. Iran is merely enforcing its rights as recognized by the US.

Second, the "you give us what we want before we talk, and then we'll decide what if anything to give in return" is a classic Israeli negotiations tactic that precludes any fairness at all in discussions, and the Iranians prudently refuse to play along.

Reporters threatened with arrest for filming private Federal Reserve building

After Aaron Dykes refused to provide his full name, he was told to leave public property immediately or face arrest because the bank was concerned about what he was filming– despite the fact that the female security guard repeatedly admitted he had done nothing wrong. In the face of Free Speech under the First Amendment, as well as common sense, the other reporter, Rob Jacobson was also told to leave despite complying with the request to provide his name.

"Officer Booth", the female private security guard for the Federal Reserve, dared to pronounce that he was "guilty by association."

“We are all Taliban,” one young man said - meaning that people in his region support the cause, if not the terrorist tactics. He explained that the insurgency is spreading in Pakistan, not because of proselytizing by leaders such as Baitullah Mehsud, but because of popular anger. For every militant killed by a US Predator drone, he says, 10 more will join the insurgent cause.

Another "Five Day" Exception As Obama Signs Lands Bill

Again, however, Obama was signing legislation that had not been posted on the White House Web site for public comment for five days, as was promised during the campaign. An emerging progressive consensus on Obama's executive power and secrecy abuses

In the last week alone, the Obama DOJ (a) attempted to shield Bush's illegal spying programs from judicial review by (yet again) invoking the very "state secrets" argument that Democrats spent years condemning and by inventing a brand new "sovereign immunity" claim that not even the Bush administration espoused, and (b) argued that individuals abducted outside of Afghanistan by the U.S. and then "rendered" to and imprisoned in Bagram have no rights of any kind -- not even to have a hearing to contest the accusations against them -- even if they are not Afghans and were captured far away from any "battlefield."
