Warmonger Wins Peace Prize

It took 25 years longer than George Orwell thought for the slogans of 1984 to become reality.

“War is Peace,” “Freedom is Slavery,” “Ignorance is Strength.”

I would add, “Lie is Truth.”

The Nobel Committee has awarded the 2009 Peace Prize to President Obama, the person who started a new war in Pakistan, upped the war in Afghanistan, and continues to threaten Iran with attack unless Iran does what the US government demands and relinquishes its rights as a signatory to the non-proliferation treaty.

Obama wins Orwellian “Peace” prize while expanding war, defending torture, targeting Iran

"We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. It is not merely that at present the rule of naked force obtains almost everywhere… Bully-worship, under various disguises, has become a universal religion, and such truisms as that a machine-gun is still a machine-gun even when a "good" man is squeezing the trigger… have turned into heresies." – George Orwell, Review of Power: A New Social Analysis by Bertrand Russell in Adelphi (January 1939)

Gun-toting soccer mom, husband shot dead

Soccer mom Melanie Hain, who made national headlines last year by having a loaded, holstered handgun at her 5-year-old daughter's soccer game, has been found shot dead in her home along with her husband, police said Thursday.

Information from 911 calls shows that it took a SWAT team nearly an hour and a half to gain entry to the Lebanon, Pennsylvania, home Wednesday evening. Inside, they found the bodies of Hain, 31, and her husband, Scott, 33, police Capt. Daniel Wright said.

Police have avoided labeling the incident a murder-suicide. However, they do not believe that another person was involved, Wright said. A full investigation is under way, he added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Between the hemming and hawing over the crime, the assumption that there was no third party, and the SWAT team taking an HOUR AND A HALF to get there, I am wondering if someone was trying to send a message about private citizens being armed.

Open Letter to the Denver Post (about 9/11)

Besides Mr. Carroll's article, there was Joanne Ostrow's article, "KBDI pushes limits on controversial pledge tie-ins," and even Mike Littwin gave a hostile jab saying the "truthers" are more weird than the "birthers."

As shown below, the articles fail to meet the Posts’s own published ethical standards for journalism such as the requirements of intellectual honesty, to present all sides, to be fair and even-handed, and to avoid loaded phrasing. None of the authors has attempted to present any facts or a reasoned analysis for their dismissal of these citizens. They instead have all stooped to ad hominem attacks, displaying a striking and perplexing lack of curiosity as to why a new investigation is supported by 45% of American citizens (2006 Zogby poll). Thus, the overall tone of each piece is that of propaganda and not news or journalism.

Using nothing more than craft knifes, they overpower cabin crew, passengers and pilots on four planes...

And hangover or not, they manage to give the world's most sophisticated air defense system the slip...

“Death Bonds”: Wall Street’s Shocking New Plan To Reap Billions Off Dying Americans

Now we know why America’s oligarchs are fighting to keep the rest of us stuck in the world’s worst health care system: the more we die, the more billions Wall Street will earn. A recent article in The New York Times exposed how Wall Street is licking its lips over a new scheme to make hundreds of billions in profits by creating financial instruments that will profit off of millions of terminally-ill Americans’ agony, desperation, and death. The only thing standing in the way of this massive new Wall Street scheme is the kind of health care reform that might allow Americans to live longer lives. Yep, this is what we spent trillions of dollars bailing out Wall Street for: so that they can kill us for profit.

8 Shocking Ways the Billionaires Have Schemed to Rob Us of Every Last Dollar

Every day and every week we hear another shocking story about how our billionaires have cooked up an even sicker scheme to shake down Americans and plunder the national wealth, as if the last scheme was too easy and boring. They don’t even bother hiding it anymore: take the story about the “Death Bonds” I wrote about last month, first reported (however blandly) in the New York Times: the very same Wall Street bankers who conned $23 trillion out of America’s wealth is now going to use some of that play money to place bets on when we Americans will die—and the sooner we die, the more billions in E-Z profits Wall Street will earn.

FHA Loans the Choice of Housing Comrades. How Government Backed Loans are creating Another Problem for the Housing Market.

Bless our real estate addicted society. You would think that a housing crash unlike anything seen since the Great Depression would teach us some lessons. It has been two years since the recession started and a decade long housing bubble. The first thing you would probably remove from the market is the toxic mortgage sector. Somehow in the mind of the politicos and Wall Street, the idea of allowing low down payment mortgages is still part of the turbo capitalist psyche. Recent data from FHA loans is abysmal. In fact, we are seeing subprime like trends. Recent data is suggesting that it is only a matter of time before the FHA goes to the American people for a bailout.

Vaccine Preservative's Effects May Have Been Known

For decades, half of all childhood vaccines contained a chemical preservative called thimerosal.

It is made from mercury, one of the most poisonous substances on Earth.

Before the 1990s, 1 in 10,000 children were diagnosed with autism. But in the past decade, as the government has increased the number of mandatory vaccines, some recent studies suggest the rate of autism has risen to 1 in about 250 children.

Approximately 12 out of the 18 vaccine doses the average American child receives before the age of two contain thimerosal. Cumulatively, that's more than 200 micrograms of mercury, which would fit on the head of a pin.

According to the EPA, dropping that pin-head of mercury into 23 gallons of water would make it unsafe for human consumption.

Mercury, Vaccines and Medicine

Much is known about the deadly effects of mercury, thimerosal and vaccines, but did you know early testing of thimerosal was done on people who were terminally ill? Great way to be able to claim thimerosal is a safe product, if you can get away with it, which Big Pharma did for a long time.

I find it almost incomprehensible thimerosal, the well-documented, toxic preservative that contains mercury, is still in many vaccines, years after federal agencies have mandated that it be removed. Especially when it comes to injecting infants with toxic chemicals when their nervous systems are just forming, because physicians certainly should know better.

Congressional Budget Office calculations for the climate bill give new meaning to the term "rosy scenario."

The most recent Congressional Budget Office (CBO) calculations for the Waxman-Markey climate bill give new meaning to the term "rosy scenario."

CBO pegs the annual household cost of Waxman-Markey at $175 per household, yet its own report suggests gasoline could rise 77 cents a gallon. That's $800 more a year just for gasoline, assuming a family uses 20 gallons a week. CBO claims that free emission allowances will offset this, but these go to businesses and government--not consumers.

Unlike other analysis, including EPA's, CBO assumes the legislation won't slow down the economy. But tweak CBO's assumptions with common sense and the annual household bill is more like $3,300. And that's in 2020 before the emissions cap ratchets down and costs climb thousands more.

The IGNOBLE NOBEL Peace Prize goes to Obama!!!!! WHAT?

As I lifted my jaw, Gordon-Brown style, up an inch or two, the value of the Nobel Peace Prize dropped several miles in my estimation.

They’ve awarded it to WHOM?

This has got to be the WORST EVER DECISION by that once-highly respected body. The worst EVER.

Not because Obama doesn’t mean well – the old woman next door means well – but because he was five minutes in the job and suddenly he’s the world’s peace-maker. I understate for emphasis – he was actually TWO WEEKS in the job before he was seen to deserve to be listed for this nomination. And nine months in the job before he got it.

WHY? What has happened since? World peace? Worldwide nuclear disarmament?

Whodunit? Sneak attack on U.S. dollar

It’s the biggest mystery in global finance right now: Who conducted a sneak attack on the U.S. dollar this week?

It began with a thinly sourced but highly explosive report Monday in a British newspaper: Arab oil sheiks are conspiring with the Russians and Chinese to quit using the dollar to set the value of oil trades — a direct threat to the global supremacy of the greenback.

Is it true? Everyone from the head of the Saudi central bank to U.S. officials scrambled to undercut the story, but no matter.

With the U.S. economy on the ropes and America by far the world’s biggest debtor, investors aren’t feeling as secure about the dollar as they used to. And the notion of second-tier economies ganging up on Uncle Sam didn’t sound so far-fetched.

US envoy returns to Mideast amid pessimism

CCTV schemes in city and town centres have little effect on crime, says report

The Campbell Collaboration report says that CCTV is now the single most heavily-funded crime prevention measure operating outside the criminal justice system and its rapid growth has come with a huge price tag. It adds that £170m was spent on CCTV schemes in town and city centres, car parks and residential areas between 1999 and 2001 alone. "Over the last decade, CCTV accounted for more than threequarters of total spending on crime prevention by the British Home Office," the report says.

The Lords report said that £500 million was spent in Britain on CCTV in the decade up to 2006, money which in the past would have gone on street lighting or neighbourhood crime prevention initiatives.

Following al-Aqsa clashes, Israel mulls banning Islamic movement

The Israeli government announced yesterday it would consider banning Israel's Islamic Movement at the next cabinet meeting, in a significant escalation of tensions that have fueled a fortnight of bloody clashes in Jerusalem over access to the Haram al-Sharif compound of mosques.

The move followed the arrest of the movement's leader, Sheikh Raed Salah, on Tuesday on suspicion of incitement and sedition. Police accused Sheikh Salah of calling for a "religious war" in recent statements in which he warned that Israel was seeking a takeover of the Haram, which includes the al-Aqsa mosque.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, once again, Israel carries out a provocation, waits for a reaction, then uses the reaction to escalate the situation.

Exploding Pyrex

A long, long time ago in a country we all know and love was a company named Corning. They made Pryex dishes. The material they used is called borosilicate glass. This stuff is indestructible.

But like everything else, the Bottom Liners had a great idea: sell the technology to another company. The Chinese discovered that using soda lime glass was almost as good as borosilicate glass and a lot cheaper. Today, Wal-Mart is the largest distributor of Pryex products. Corning not only sold the technology to a company called World Kitchen, they also sold the rights to the original Pyrex logo. Seamless. The consumer will never know.

Oct 08 12:22

Banks 1, America 0

Of course, it is not that hard to make profits when you get to borrow money from the Fed at almost no interest and then lend it back to the government at 3.5% interest. Suppose the state of California was given the privilege of not only borrowing $1 trillion from the Fed at near zero interest but also using the money to buy Treasury bonds paying 3.5% interest. The $35bn in annual interest rate subsidies would take care of California's huge budget deficit pretty quickly.

But hey, California is just a big state. It's not a Wall Street bank. Congress is not going to tolerate special treatment for state governments.

Retailers’ Sales for September Only Reach 2005 Levels

On Thursday morning, some of the nation’s biggest retail chains posted September sales that were better than in previous months, though that was largely because the stores had easier year-over-year comparisons.

Israeli Settlements and Obama's Offer

Both the US President Barack Obama and his Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced this agreement during the tripartite meeting of Obama, the Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas, and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Again shortly after the meeting, the United States asserted it would no longer demand Israel to stop or freeze the establishment of settlements , but to "rationalize it".

9th year of Afghanistan war: US ready to embrace facts of an illegal War of Aggression?

This is a hub article with linked titles and one paragraph summaries of all the articles I’ve written so far relevant to the US war in Afghanistan. The one point I suggest that you become powerful in articulating is that these wars are illegal (documentation clearly explained); US “leaders” of both parties have used our American labor to fund the most evil, destructive, and shameful crime a nation can commit, all under our flag and with our propagandized troops. We've been duped. This should motivate your passionate response for justice.

The Beauty Parlor Bomb Plan; Massive Terror Plot Alleged

According to court documents, Zazi "purchased unusually large quantities of hydrogen peroxide and acetone from beauty supply stores in the Denver metropolitan area."

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is getting more and more out there.

You can buy hydrogen peroxide in large bottles at any pharmacy or bulk buy store (two bottle minimum at SAM's), and acetone can be purchased by the gallon from any paint supply or hardware store, all without raising eyebrows.

This whole Zazi case is a staged setup.

If Zazi was buying these chemicals in large amounts from beauty stores, then he was trying to attract attention.

When the FBI Comes Knocking; ABC Reporter Discovers Broad Terror Net

Zazi is accused of purchasing the hair products because they contain the chemicals necessary for the homemade bomb recipe the FBI says it found in his computer. At the time of his arrest, officials were convinced Zazi was prepared to set off bombs in several crowded areas throughout the United States. Government prosecutors believed he was "creating weapons of mass destruction."

Webmaster's Commentary:

A weapon of mass destruction?

From hair care products?

And they wonder why nobody believes the FBI any more.

34 banks don't pay their quarterly TARP dividends

In a sign that more banks are under great pressure from the recession, 34 financial institutions did not pay their quarterly dividends in August to the Treasury on funds obtained under the Troubled Asset Relief Fund (TARP). The number almost doubled from 19 in May when payments were last made, and also raised questions about Treasury's judgment in approving these banks as "healthy," a necessary step for them to get TARP funding.

Fed Ratchets Up Warnings on Commercial Real Estate Debt

Two officials from the U.S. Federal Reserve issued strong signals this week that the central bank is very concerned over the banking industry's exposure to commercial real estate loans and considers it to be a major stumbling block to the road to economic recovery.

Banks fail to absorb commercial real estate loan losses

Remember the havoc in the financial markets when the residential bubble burst last year? Are we in for a rerun this year or next year?

You are probably thinking that such an event could not occur. Well think again. There is a report that says that we may be in for another crisis.

The report was initiated by Federal Reserve analyst, K.C. Conway. Conway is a senior real estate analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. The Federal Reserve has acknowledged the report but said that it is not part of its formal opinion. What does the report say?

I-Believe-in-Strong-Dollar Turns Relic as China Begs

More than a decade after former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin made the “strong dollar” national policy, currency traders say the same words coming from the Obama administration have little meaning.

Timothy Geithner, the current Treasury secretary, has tolerated the greenback’s 12 percent slide from its peak this year in March as measured by the Federal Reserve’s trade- weighted Real Major Currencies Dollar Index. While he said as recently as Oct. 3 that “it is very important to the United States that we continue to have a strong dollar,” the last time the U.S. intervened in markets to support its currency was 1995.

Treasury Bonds Decline After $12 Billion Auction of Securities

Treasury 30-year bonds fell after the government’s auction of $12 billion of the securities was met with lower-than-average demand.

The bonds drew a yield of 4.009 percent, compared with a forecast of 3.994 percent in a Bloomberg News survey of six of the Federal Reserve’s 18 primary dealers that underwrote the sale. The bid-to-cover ratio, which gauges demand by comparing total bids with the amount of securities offered, was 2.37, compared with 2.92 at the September auction and an average of 2.42 at the last 10 auctions.

TALF Doubts

To see why a key government program aimed at resuscitating the securitized commercial-property debt market is off to a slow start, one need only look at the financing of the office tower at 100 Park Ave. in Midtown Manhattan, which is owned by New York landlord SL Green Realty Corp. and insurance giant Prudential Financial Inc.

On Tuesday, the venture refinanced a $175 million mortgage on the building for $215 million. The interest rate on the new loan, 6.64%, may be even lower than what the venture would have received had it opted for a bond sale financed by the Federal Reserve's Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility, or TALF, program.

After Goldstone, Hamas faces fateful choice

The uproar over the Palestinian Authority's (PA) collaboration with Israel to bury the Goldstone report, calling for trials of Israeli leaders for war crimes in Gaza, is a political earthquake. The whole political order in place since the 1993 Oslo accords were signed is crumbling. As the initial tremors begin to fade, the same old political structures may appear still to be in place, but they are hollowed out. This unprecedented crisis threatens to topple the US-backed PA leader Mahmoud Abbas, but it also leaves Hamas, the main Palestinian resistance faction, struggling with fateful choices.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Side note: HAMAS won the elections. They are the ELECTED government in Gaza.

The great swine flu mystery

It's a bonanza! At least that is how some describe the drug industry's expected windfall from the swine flu pandemic as it prepares to cash in on what could be the most widespread winter flu season for a generation.

The H1N1 outbreak will certainly be good news for the pharmaceutical groups, but just how good remains a mystery as the firms supplying the vaccines and treatments, and the governments buying them, refuse to give details on how much it is all costing.

'Lucky break' as UK swine flu spread slows

The rate of increase is nowhere near the weekly doubling experts feared.
