"Smaller Suppliers Will Go Out Of Business": Hail Mary Time For Wal-Mart, As Vendors Pushed To Brink

It's crunch time for Wal-Mart as the iconic retail behemoth struggles to cope with the fallout from a move to spend billions on wage hikes for its meagerly compensated hourly employees. In order to avoid passing on rising labor costs to customers, the company has set its sights on the supply chain where some smaller vendors now say they're being driven out of business entirely.

Report: Human DNA found in hot dogs

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, about 7 billion hot dogs will be consumed in the U.S., and on the Fourth of July more than 150 million hot dogs will be consumed alone. America's 120-year-old love affair with hot dogs extends from ballparks to backyards to the White House.

Clear Foods, which "uses genomic technology to analyze the world's foods at a molecular level, ingredient by ingredient," released a report recently that it said was designed to look at the accuracy of the content labels of several major hot dog brands.A new report, however, adds extra meaning to the phrase "you don't want to know how the sausage gets made."

The company analyzed 345 hot dog and sausage products from 75 brands and 10 retailers, and said they found "human DNA in 2% of the samples, and in 2/3rds of the vegetarian samples."

Additionally, 10 percent of all vegetarian products appeared to contain meat.

Housing Recovery Horror: New Home Sales Crash Most Since 2013 As Median Price Soars

Homebuilders were exuberant, The Fed was confident, and stock markets have recovered... so why did New Home Sales collapse 11.5% in September (missing a 0.6% drop expectation by a proverbial mile)? This is the largest MoM drop since July 2013. Worst still, the excitement of July and August data has been notably revised lower to press the current New Home Sales SAAR to 468k - its lowest since November 2014. At the same time, median home prices surged to $296,900 - the highest in 2015.

IMF READY TO ADD YUAN TO RESERVE CURRENCY BASKET

The International Monetary Fund is about to give a green light to the inclusion of the yuan to the reserve basket of currencies. The final decision is due in November.

"Everything is on course technically and there is no obvious political obstacle. The report leans clearly towards including the RMB [yuan] in the basket but leaves the decision for the board,” an IMF official told Reuters, preferring not to be named.

"There is no real discussion, no obstacles, all seems on course," another official added.

The IMF will decide in November whether to expand the current composition (US dollar, euro, yen and British pound) of Special Drawing Rights (SDR) with another currency.

The yuan has become the fourth most-used currency in global payments with a 2.79 percent share in August, surpassing the yen, according to the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT).

Mystery object re-entering atmosphere may be Apollo booster

A lost and forgotten piece of what was probably a rocket booster is set for a November 13 impact over the Indian Ocean, and it's got space boffins scrambling to make sure they capture the event.

The mystery object, WT1109F, has a very eccentric orbit that takes it out to twice the Earth-Moon distance, and observations since it was first discovered give it such a low mass that it's assumed to be hollow.

That, as Nature writes, makes it likely the one-to-two metre object is man-made: “a spent rocket stage or paneling shed by a recent Moon mission”, Nature suggests.

It's also possible that WT1109F dates back as far as the Apollo era.

Webmaster addition: The object could even be older than Apollo. Rangers 3 and 5, which were supposed to impact the Moon, missed! And they are the right size!

NETANYAHU SAYS THIS, BUT MEANS THAT …

The Israeli policy to kill first and ask questions later was effectively, though not formally, adopted in an effort to crush Palestinian protests over reasserted attempts by government backed Messianic Jewish fanatics to arrogate a foothold at the Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam’s holiest places.

Israeli circles though obviously mistakenly thought that political turmoil in much of the Arab world presented a golden opportunity for Israel to drastically alter the status quo at the Mosque and its spacious courts, including allowing Jews to hold Talmudic rituals, which effectively means partitioning the exclusively Islamic shrine.

Indeed, in addition to killing and maiming hundreds of Palestinians, Israel took draconian measures to crush what seemed to be a renewed Palestinian intifada.

POLICE CITE 'TERRORISM' TO JUSTIFY BUYING 'STINGRAY' SPY DEVICES, USE THEM EXCLUSIVELY FOR ORDINARY CRIMES

State police in Michigan have been secretly using hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of cell site simulator equipment to locate and track cell phones since at least 2006, according to records obtained by the ACLU and ACLU of Michigan. And although the agency justified its initial purchase of the surveillance gear as "vital to the war on terrorism," the records show that the department used its cell site simulators in 128 run-of-the-mill investigations last year--not a single one of which was for terrorism. The records also highlight the continuing problem of excessive secrecy about use of this invasive tracking equipment.

Cell site simulators, commonly known as Stingrays, can precisely locate and track phones by mimicking cell phone towers and forcing phones in the area to transmit their unique identifying information. Because these devices raise serious privacy concerns, the ACLU has been tracking their purchase and use by law enforcement agencies across the country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The BEST possible way of avoiding terrorists doing something awful in this country is to stop mucking about in other peoples' countries, and laying claim to resources to which the US has absolutely no moral right.

Of course, such an approach by the US government would be....logical.

And unfortunately, logical and US foreign policy in this country haven't been close in decades.

MORE LEGISLATORS THINK UNDERPRIVILEGED COPS NEED ‘HATE CRIME’ LAW PROTECTIONS

The Red Wing (MN) City Council passed a resolution last week calling for crimes against law enforcement to be prosecutable as hate crimes.

The picturesque town on the banks of the Mississippi River is believed to be the second place in the nation — and the first city — to pass such a resolution.

First off, cops aren’t being targeted with any more regularity than they’ve ever been. In fact, the last time cops were “targeted” at a level anyone rational would consider to be a problem was during Prohibition, nearly 100 years ago. (The second spike is due to another round of prohibition — the declaration of the “War on Drugs” by President Richard Nixon.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

FLASHBACK - 72 Types Of Americans That Are Considered “Potential Terrorists” In Official Government Documents

Are you a conservative, a libertarian, a Christian or a gun owner? Are you opposed to abortion, globalism, Communism, illegal immigration, the United Nations or the New World Order? Do you believe in conspiracy theories, do you believe that we are living in the “end times” or do you ever visit alternative news websites (such as this one)?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you are a “potential terrorist” according to official U.S. government documents.

At one time, the term “terrorist” was used very narrowly. The government applied that label to people like Osama bin Laden and other Islamic jihadists. But now the Obama administration is removing all references to Islam from terror training materials, and instead the term “terrorist” is being applied to large groups of American citizens.

Detroit Billboard Denounced as “anti-Semitic” for Putting America First

The organized Jewish community, led by the Anti-Defamation League, has condemned a billboard in Detroit, Michigan which simply reads, “America First, Not Israel,” denouncing the advertisement as “anti-Semitic.”

'Anyone With AK-47' Can Overmatch US Soldier in Fire Fight

Few countries on the planet could hope to dominate the US in tank, air or naval warfare but US soldiers would be easily outgunned in a fire fight, military analyst Jim Schatz wrote in his article for National Defense.

"Yet every bad actor with an AK-47 takes on US and NATO ground forces in a small arms fight. We are no longer suitably armed to prevent it," he wrote. "The current US Army small arms development and acquisition system is dysfunctional and virtually unworkable, even for those within the system."

The Palestine Exception to Free Speech: A Movement Under Attack in the US

This report, released by the Center for Constitutional Rights and Palestine Legal in September 2015, documents for the first time the widespread and growing suppression of Palestinian human rights advocacy in the United States. Between January 2014 and June 2015, Palestine Legal responded to nearly 300 incidents of suppression; 85% of those incidents targeted students and professors, on a total of more than 65 US college campuses. This trend has significant implications for both the First Amendment and democratic principles like academic freedom, not to mention the mission of higher education to help develop critical thinking. The report outlines the tactics – including event cancellations, baseless legal complaints, administrative disciplinary actions, firings, and false and inflammatory accusations of terrorism and antisemitism – that Israel advocacy organizations, universities, government actors, and other institutions have used against activists.

Since then, thousands of people have come to the CCR website for the report, including 2,600 who visited the report’s page the day it was released. Meanwhile, over 400,000 people have watched the accompanying video and video portraits on Facebook, YouTube, CCR’s website and Al Jazeera. CCR Bertha Justice Institute Fellow Omar Shakir, together with Palestine Legal’s team, have spoken to thousands of students and activists on college campuses across the country about the report and its findings; at almost every event they hear new stories from activists who have been targeted for their human rights advocacy in the ways documented in the report.

Turing Phone: The hacker-resistant smartphone with stretchable storage

The Turing Phone can wirelessly transfer a DVD-quality movie in just over half a minute and has secure messaging that would take years to crack.

But the most impressive features of this sleek and sturdy phone are just around the corner says Turing Robotics Industries CEO Syl Chao.

The first of these additions will land next year, when Turing Phones will be upgraded from the Android 5.1 operating system (OS) to the Turing OS. In theory, this new OS will make it more difficult for the phone to run out of storage space.

Battle of Aleppo is a must-win for Russia

Once again, whatever hangs in the future for Syria on both the political and military fronts depends on the new Battle of Aleppo. The city and its outskirts, with the influx of internal refugees, may be harboring up to three million people by now.

It’s always about Aleppo.

Here’s what’s going on, essentially, on the ground. West Aleppo is controlled by Damascus, via the Syrian Arab Army (SAA).

Some of the northern parts are controlled by the Kurds from the PYD – which are way more engaged in fighting ISIS/ISIL/Daesh than Damascus. The PYD also happens to be considered an objective ally by the Obama administration and the Pentagon, much to the disgust of Turkey’s ‘Sultan’ Erdogan.

Rep. Gabbard Admits CIA’s Plot to Overthrow Assad Could Lead to WWIII with Russia on CNN

Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat from Hawaii’s second congressional district and member of the Armed Services Committee, straight up told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that there’s a bigger issue in Syria than a potential clash in the country’s crowded skies:

“The U.S. and the CIA are working to overthrow the Syrian government of Assad…

…while Russia, a long-time ally of Assad for decades now, is working to defend or uphold the Syrian government of Assad, and this puts us in a position of a possible direct head-to-head conflict with Russia as long as the U.S. and CIA continue down this path.”

Hillary Clinton's Failed Libya 'Doctrine'

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton fancied the violent 2011 “regime change” in Libya such a triumph that her aides discussed labeling it the start of a “Clinton Doctrine,” according to released emails that urged her to claim credit when longtime Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was deposed. And Clinton did celebrate when Gaddafi was captured and murdered.

“We came; we saw; he died,” Clinton exulted in a TV interview after receiving word of Gaddafi’s death on Oct. 20, 2011, though it is not clear how much she knew about the grisly details, such as Gaddafi being sodomized with a knife before his execution.
