White House staff exodus exposes Obama to charges of disarray

More senior staff including defence secretary Robert Gates, and senior advisor David Axelrod, leave their jobs

More senior White House staff are to leave in the next few months, adding to the high exit rate from President Barack Obama's administration.

Political analysts attribute the attrition rate to exhaustion, but Republican opponents blame disarray inside the White House, with an insular team responsible for too many policy failures.

Rights groups attack Sir Paul Stephenson's plan to curb court action against officers

Sir Paul Stephenson, the commissioner of the Metropolitan police, has privately lobbied the home secretary to make it harder for people to take legal action against his force, the Guardian has learned.

Critics say the plans amount to an attempt by the police to put themselves beyond the rule of law and undermine constitutional safeguards against abuses of power.

No boost for Social Security checks in 2011

As if voters don't have enough to be angry about this election year, the government is expected to announce this week that more than 58 million Social Security recipients will go through another year without an increase in their monthly benefits.

It would mark only the second year without an increase since automatic adjustments for inflation were adopted in 1975. The first year was this year.

"If you're the ruling party, this is not the sort of thing you want to have happening two weeks before an election," said Andrew Biggs, a former deputy commissioner at the Social Security Administration and now a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.

Thar’s Money in That Old Quilt: Then and Now, The Difference in American Leadership

By J. Speer-Williams – My Catbird Seat

“No thief will ever guess that we have $10,000 sewn into Grandma’s old quilt,” said Mrs. Donner to her three girls and husband, after dinner, one cold night, while in their warm and comfortable living room.

In early 1846, the wealthy Illinois family of George and Tamsen Donner, with their three daughters, were about to become American pioneers to California. And 10,000 dollars – equal to about 150,000 to 200,000 dollars, today – would go a long way in ensuring their success in California. But why go?

Many pioneers believed in Manifest Destiny, an idea that the land between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans belonged to America , and Americans had not only the right, but the duty to settle those lands.

Zionism has a Pervasive Thought Police In Portland, OR

Driving up on Milwaukie Ave, I noticed a few from last week's meeting waving signs across the street from the True Brew coffee shop. Apparently, a few were anxious to wave signs, so there they were on a remote section of Milwaukie holding up messages like "FREE GAZA", and "STOP FBI HARASSMENT".

I hung out with them in the rain for 5 minutes before a dude in his 30's trots across the street towards us without a jacket.

"I just got a complaint about anti-Semites being hosted in my coffee shop." He informs us. "I don't have much business as it is, so you gotta do this demo stuff somewhere else."

By William Cook — My Catbird Seat –

“Our goal is two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security,” (President Obama) such is the illusion that resurfaces to restart the peace negotiations that will stabilize the mid-east. For 63 years that “goal” has been the carrot held before the people of the United States and Britain as the ultimate resolution for the Israeli/Palestinian crisis. In reality there is nothing in the statement that is true.

US Banks Fake Documents to Rush Foreclosures

Major US banks systematically faked documents in order to speed up foreclosures for hundreds of thousands of homeowners, a mounting body of evidence shows. It appears likely that federal and state laws were broken in the process.

The scandal speaks both to the dimensions of the social crisis and the criminality of the big banks. The immediate cause of the mortgage lenders’ rampant cheating on foreclosure paperwork is the tidal wave of families ruined by the economic crisis—a crisis itself set into motion by the banks’ predatory lending practices. The goal was to get people out of their homes as efficiently and ruthlessly as possible, skating over legal requirements relating to documentation.

Blogs Win One: Obama's First Veto Will Be H.R. 3808---Mortgage Foreclosure Documentation Bill

President Obama has decided he can not take the heat from the masses and he will veto the bill which would give bankers the ability to foreclose on houses, even when they do not have proper documentation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Coco Chanel, before she became famous for perfumes, was a milliner. She made hats for the finest French High Society women. And Coco knew that her clients would never accept her hat designs without wanting to "tinker" to prove who was in charge. So, before showing her hats to her clients, Coco would stick a bright orange feather into the middle of the hat. The client would come in and marvel at the hat, then explain that the orange feather just did not look right. Coco would smile and remove the offending feather and deliver the hat. The client was happy for having control over the design while Coco was happy because the hat was being worn as she intended it to be. In other words, the orange feather existed for no other reason than to be removed to make the client happy. It did not actually change anything.

So, we come to this bill, H.R. 3808, which sailed through Congress without any debate at all, clearly an onerous piece of abusive legislation that did indeed arouse the public anger... as it may have been planned to do. Because now Obama has, just before the election, a bright orange feather he can pluck out and discard before the eyes of the voting public, to reassure the gullible that they have the "semblance" of control of what goes on.

He also pled guilty to bank bribery, embezzlement of bank funds, and participating in a $37.5 million scheme that left an Oklahoma insurance company in receivership.

Three Horrifying Facts About the US Debt “Situation”

Since too often financial articles consist of some stooge blathering on and on with opinions instead of facts, I thought today we’d simply focus on some FACTS about our current financial system which few if any want to acknowledge.

#1: The US Fed is now the second largest owner of US Treasuries.

That’s right, this week we overtook Japan, leaving China as the only country with greater ownership of US Debt. And we’re printing money to buy it. Setting aside the fact that this is abject lunacy, this policy is trashing our currency which has fallen 13% since June… as in four months ago. Taking longer to achieve less than we initially intended is also costing far more than anyone ever imagined. Although Lindsey soon found himself out of a job as a result, he turned out to be a piker. The bill for our post-9/11 wars already exceeds a trillion dollars, all of it piled atop our mushrooming national debt. Helped in no small measure by Obama's war policies, the meter is still running.

'This is the biggest fraud in the history of the capital markets'

This is the biggest fraud in the history of the capital markets. And it’s not something that happened last week. It happened when these loans were originated, in some cases years ago. Loans have representations and warranties that have to be met. In the past, you had a certain period of time, 60 to 90 days, where you sort through these loans and, if they’re bad, you kick them back. If the documentation wasn’t correct, you’d kick it back. If you found the incomes of the buyers had been overstated, or the houses had been appraised at twice their worth, you’d kick it back. But that didn’t happen here.

Suicidal soldiers are humiliated by superiors with fatal results, military medical experts say

Depressed soldiers who seek help for suicidal thoughts have been publicly mocked by higherups, military medical experts told the Daily News.

The bullying involves "humiliating-type behavior in ranks, formations, where soldiers were singled out and identified as someone who is suicidal, publicly ridiculed, and things along that nature," said Army Maj. Gen. Philip Volpe.

Last year, a record 245 Army troops killed themselves, with an additional 166 suicides through August of this year.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is a point, during the kinds of deployments with which many of these people have been tasked, when thinking soldiers recognize that they are on the wrong side of history.

Birth of the National Security State

It is not far fetched to speculate that the United States has, over the past ten years, been sliding into a form of authoritarianism that retains only some aspects of the constitution and a limited rule of law. America's president can, for example, commit soldiers to combat overseas without a constitutionally mandated declaration of war by congress while it is quite possible to be detained by the authorities and locked up without any prospect of trial or opportunity to defend oneself.

U.S. Won’t Recover Lost Jobs Until March 2020 At Current Pace

The U.S. economy lost 95,000 jobs in September, far worse than expectations for no change in employment. More Census-related temp jobs ended, as expected, but state and local governments slashed staff far more than predicted.

So far in 2010, the U.S. has added just 613,000 jobs — for a monthly average of 68,111.

Employment bottomed in December 2009 at 129.588 million — two years after peaking at 137.951 million. At this year’s pace, the U.S. won’t recoup all those 8.36 million lost jobs* until March 2020 — 147 months after the December 2007 high.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What makes me very nervous about these numbers is the reality that, historically, the US has gotten out of depressions through war.

Considering the object lesson the US gave the world with their invasion and occupation of Iraq, which did not have a nuclear deterrent, (contrary to the pack of lies the American people were fed at the time), one can hardly blame North Korea for moving ahead here, if this story is true.

Iraqis on edge as rocket attacks intensify

Sunni and Shi'ite insurgents are reviving the tactic of firing rockets at Baghdad's fortified Green Zone, unsettling the Iraqi capital's residents and adding to a sense that security is eroding as U.S. troops withdraw.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder if these attacks are not premeditated to "encourage" the Iraqi government (as soon as it can be formed) to beg the US to never leave.

The Karzai Family Fortune, Courtesy of U.S. Taxpayers

The average Afghan — and, indeed, the average American — may be deriving very little benefit from the United States’ continued occupation of Afghanistan and the billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars that continue to be poured into that country, but in both countries the well-connected make out quite handsomely. In Afghanistan, the key to prosperity and power, it seems, is having the surname of Karzai, as in President Hamid Karzai.

“In recent years,” the New York Times’ James Risen reports, “dozens of Karzai family members and close allies have taken government jobs, pursued business interests or worked as contractors to the United States government, allowing them to shape policy or financially benefit from it.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Your tax dollars at work, folks.

And apparently, there is absolutely zero Congressional oversight as to how the money for these projects get spent.

Afghanistan: War without end

There is a clear and pressing need to end the monumental folly of prosecuting a war in Afghanistan.

The war could continue simply because its momentum is now unstoppable.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And who actually wins, in this war without end?

Not the citizens of the US or NATO countries; indeed, we are collectively less safe than we were before the war against Afghanistan was initiated.

It is not the Afghan people, desperately poor, and dealing with a dysfunctional, corrupt government, the members of which are so crooked they have to screw their socks on in the morning.

From the inception of this war to the present, the only people "winning" have been the huge defense contractors which provide hired mercenaries, supplies, and logistics, and the drug dealers.

That is an ugly, and dismal, assessment, considering all the blood and money spent here; but it is the truth.

Iran Acknowledges Espionage At Nuclear Facilities

TEHRAN - Iran revealed for the first time Saturday that some personnel at the country's nuclear facilities were lured by promises of money to pass secrets to the West, but said increased security and worker privileges have put a stop to the spying.

The stunning acknowledgment by Vice President Ali Akbar Salehi provides the clearest government confirmation that Iran has been fighting espionage at its nuclear facilities.

A chain of hardware stores, a franchisee of the American Ace Hardware chain. The chain owns a store in the Israeli settlement of Ma'ale Edomim in the West Bank.

The company is part of the Ace Auto Depot, which is controlled B. Gaon Holdings and by Shlomo Zavida.

Your local Ace Hardware store is part of the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Is there any business in America that isn't involved in the ethnic cleansing and the Zionist plan to make Palestinians 'disappear off the face of the Earth?'

America's War on Food Not Bombs

Co-founded in 1980 by Keith McHenry and other anti-nuclear activists in Cambridge MA, its autonomous, all volunteer groups advocate nonviolent social change. Among other activities, they recover edible, safe to eat food that would otherwise be discarded, using it to make "fresh hot vegan and vegetarian meals that are served in outside public spaces to anyone without restriction." They also serve it at protests, other events and in disaster areas, but not free from disruptive government harassment.

For example, San Francisco members have been arrested over 1,000 times for their activism against homelessness and other social injustices, intolerable in a major city in the world's richest country.

In the 1990s, Amnesty International took note....

China Outraged by Dissident’s Nobel Peace Prize Win

China’s Ambassador met with Norwegian officials today to express his government’s outrage at the Nobel Peace Prize commission’s decision to award this year’s prize to Liu Xiaobo, a Chinese dissident who is currently in prison. Norway responded that its government doesn’t get to decide who wins the prize.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to China's Ambassador to Norway: this award has already been completely debased and discredited by its having been awarded to such consummate warmongers like Kissinger and Obama.

That having been said, with the rapidly growing rise of a Chinese middle class, the Chinese government can well expect that there will be many more people who have differing views of how problems need to be resolved, and will be vocal in those opinions.

It is in how the Chinese government deals with the issue of dissent which will shape the future of the country, and the future of its position as an emerging world power.

Was a prominent Canadian journalist fired for suggesting PM Steven Harper is a Straussian?

Did Leo Strauss Get Rick Salutin Fired?

Rick Salutin, recently of the Globe and Mail, was easily one of that papers most sophisticated and erudite columnists. He wrote with authority and conviction on a wide range of subjects. He “stuck out” at the Globe and Mail as he was clearly identified as left leaning, but then good newspapers have a mandate to publish a cross section of opinion. With the departure of Salutin the Globe and Mail has big shoes to fill on its opinion page.

In one of his last columns(Stephen Harper- the last Straussian?, Sept.18th 2010) Salutin suggested the prime minister was a Straussian. If you are a prime minister who has spent his political capital and lusts after one last run at a majority government the last thing you want is to be outed as a Straussian.

Pakistan decides to reopen major supply route for NATO forces

The Pakistani government on Saturday announced its decision to reopen the Khyber Pass border into Afghanistan for NATO supply convoys.

"After assessing the security situation in all its aspects, the government has decided to reopen the ... supply from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border at Torkham with immediate effect," the government said in a statement.

"Our relevant authorities are now in the process of coordinating with authorities on the other side of the border to ensure smooth resumption of the supply traffic."

Pakistan’s Convoy Halt Forces US to Reduce Tensions

"By continuing its halt in NATO convoys headed for Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing into a second week, Pakistan’s military leadership has brought an end to the unilateral attacks in Pakistan pushed by Gen. David Petraeus and forced Washington to make a new accommodation."

It appears, for the moment, that Pakistan won this one regarding the cessation of US drone attacks: we will see how long this holds.

NATO Commander: New Europe Threat Justifies Afghan War

US Admiral James G. Stavridis, the current head of EUCOM who also holds the needlessly pompous title of NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander for Europe discussed the largely nebulous terror threat against Europe, insisting it justifies the ongoing war in Afghanistan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but is this man absolutely barking mad?!?

What this war is and has always been about is potential private profit from a publicly funded war. The spoils were to have been from the installation of pipelines with which to control Eurasian oil, drug profits, defense contractors' profits, and profits from the huge mineral resources which abound here.

Nearly 10 years on, the profits being seen from this war have primarily gone to the defense contractors and drug dealers.

As reported at:

The cost of war in Afghanistan from 2001 to present is over three hundred fifty-three billion (with a B), and escalating rapidly.

The war has been of absolutely no benefit to the American people in terms of enhancing the security of this country, nor has it created any degree of stabilization in Afghanistan; in fact, it has done just the opposite.

People in Afghanistan and beyond don't "hate us because we are free": they hate us because, on a daily basis, they are seeing their wives, kids, friends, and loved ones being exterminated or maimed for life who are not in any way insurgents.

But what this approach has done (as it inevitably would) has been to push those left standing into the waiting embrace of the insurgents.

There is one classical definition of insanity, and that is repeating the same thing, again and again, and expecting a different outcome.

It appears that the White House, State Department, and Pentagon are in absolute lock step in doing this in their policies toward Afghanistan. They are locked in a militarily unwinnable situation, but don't know what to do, except to keep doing what has not worked for almost a decade.

Of course, for the DOD and Pentagon, perpetual war guarantees one thing: perpetual funding.

What this country needs is a Department of Peace, which would be tasked as to how to achieve geopolitical outcomes without resorting to war.

Of course, that would be logical.

Another frame-up starts to collapse.

James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen are on trial in federal court in Manhattan on charges of attempting to use weapons of mass destruction, conspiracy and other crimes. They are accused of engaging in a plot to detonate bombs outside a synagogue in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and to shoot down military planes with missiles last year.

They have denied wrongdoing and their lawyers have argued they were entrapped by a government informant.

Mark B. Gombiner, a lawyer for Onta Williams, said he was upset the document was in the jurors' notebooks because it was basically "a confession."

"I would like to say something about it," Mr. Gombiner said. "I don't know what to say, I'm a little discombobulated."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like someone got caught trying to tamper with the jury to secure a conviction. Or alternatively, rather than risk an embarrassing acquittal, someone decided to force a mistrial.

Kings of the Short Run in the Land of Flaming Shit.

Sunday is10/10/10. The government and other professional liars have had something to say about the date. Everything the government and media say are lies, or the groundwork for lies to come. All of it is especially, sculpted soft stool from the Dairy Queen machinery of a banker’s ass. You’re expected to eat and enjoy it, without knowing the composition or the source. The complexity of their intentions can be summed up quite simply. They want to take you to the point where you don’t know what the ice cream is made of, or where it came from, to the point where you line up with your cones in hand and wait in a rapt, religious hunger to obtain it from the source. Your eyes should gleam with gratitude as you walk away, knowing that you have seen one of the key mysterious out workings of God.

The families of the victims of the May 31 clashes aboard the Turkish Gaza-bound aid ship Mavi Marmara have petition the International Criminal Court in Hague to prosecute Israeli soldiers, the Guardian reported Friday.

Israeli navy commandos killed nine Turkish activists aboard the Mavi Marmara, one of several ships taking part in a Turkish-backed aid flotilla aiming to violate Israel's naval blockade of the Gaza Strip. Dozens of activists, as well as Israeli troops, were injured during the clashes.
