The Oil Spill, How Bad?

Independent scientists estimate that the renegade wellhead at the bottom of the Gulf could be spewing up to 25,000 barrels a day. If chokeholds on the riser pipe break down further, up to 50,000 barrels a day could be released, according to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration memo obtained by the Mobile, Ala., Press-Register.

CNN quotes the lead government official responding to the spill - the commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral Thad Allen - as stating:

If we lost a total well head, it could be 100,000 barrels or more a day.

Who would have believed it? Only days after a warning of an Israeli “false flag” bombing against the US “in the works” a massive car bomb is discovered in Time Square! In Israel's pockets: the shame of Britain's political parties

As British voters head for the ballot box to elect the government that will run them for the next five years, one key question is conspicuous by its absence from the election campaign and the party leaders' televised debates: to what extent are the two main parties, the Conservative Party and the incumbent Labour Party, answerable to their members and to the British people, rather than to a foreign power, the State of Israel?

Iran violating key nuclear treaty'

Iran is in clear violation of a treaty designed to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday.

The UN is holding a conference this coming week on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is expected to address delegates ahead of Clinton on Monday.

Clinton told NBC's "Meet the Press" that Ahmadinejad's trip is an effort to divert attention and confuse people about Iran's violation of the treaty.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but has US Secretary of State Clinton gone utterly barking mad, to make such a statement?!?

According to all the reports of the IAEA, no nuclear materials in Iran's program have gone missing, nor is the uranium being used for fuel a power station being enriched beyond the level necessary to fuel that power station.

So, Secretary Clinton, where, precisely, is the evidence for this claim?!?

In a word, at this point: non-existent!!

US Jewish Groups Call for UN Walkout on Ahmadinejad

American Jewish organizations have called on United Nations representatives from around the world to walk out on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad next week. Ahmadinejad plans to take the podium during the UN Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference.

The World Jewish Congress asked its members around the world to pressure their respective governments' representatives to take part in the walkout.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, the WJC has "...asked its members around the world to pressure their respective governments' representatives to take part in the walkout.?!?!?

What could Ahmadinejad possibly say to get their collective knickers in a twist?!?

It couldn't possibly be a mention that although Israel has nuclear weapons, it refuses to be a signatory to the NNPT, or have its nuclear sites inspected by the IAEA, as Iran (which doesn't possess nuclear weapons) does?!?!?

Obama Takes Direct Aim at Anti-Government Rhetoric

In a blunt caution to political friend and foe, President Barack Obama said Saturday that partisan rants and name-calling under the guise of legitimate discourse pose a serious danger to America's democracy, and may incite "extreme elements" to violence.

The comments, in a graduation speech at the University of Michigan's huge football stadium, were Obama's most direct take about the angry politics that have engulfed his young presidency after long clashes over health care, taxes and the role of government.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Obama. If you don't want to incite "extreme elements" to violence, then stopping pissing us all off with higher taxes, lower standards of living, wars based on lies, and a total sell-out to Wall Street and Israel.

We The People have reached the end of our patience with this cluster-fuck of a government. You know it, or you would not have spent so much time in that speech trying to convince everyone that civilized behavior consists of meekly accepting whatever the government does.

Unconditional support for Israel 'is dangerous', say leading European Jews

More than 3,000 European Jews, including prominent intellectuals, have signed a petition speaking out against Israeli settlement policies and warning that systematic support for the Israeli government is dangerous.

The petition's signatories include French philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy and Daniel Cohn-Bendit, a Greens leader in the European Parliament.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a very courageous stand for this group to take, understanding the very real - and probably very public - personal and professional destruction these people will probably experience at the hands of the current Israeli regime.

But at the end of the day, as the world is generally terrified to criticize any policy of the Israeli government, we will see a very quickened pace of annexation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank, followed by a forced expulsion of any Palestinian left standing to Gaza.

Tel Aviv Fears UN May Recognize PA State

There is a rising conviction among some in the Netanyahu government, The Jerusalem Post has learned, that the PA is aiming to secure a new UN Security Council Resolution, updating 1967’s Resolution 242, providing for the establishment of Palestine and fudging the refugee issue.

Biological Warfare: Priority to Bioweapons Research over Public Health

The priorities of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the area of bacteriology have been “catastrophically re-ordered” by emphasizing bioweapons research over non-bioweapons research, a prominent authority states.

A recent survey by Canadian scholar Priscilla Lefebvre summed up the whole Arroyo tenure as a sustained “war against the people through State violence” (2010). Animation: Gulf of Mexico oil spill growth and movement

This animation of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was created using actual overflight information and forecast models from the NOAA and Unified Command.

The red dot is the location of the Deepwater Horizon oil well, which exploded on April 20, releasing oil into the Gulf near the Louisiana coast that has yet to be contained. Eleven rig workers are missing and are presumed to have died in the explosion.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Setting aside the obvious nonsense about North Korean mini-subs, there is a lot of conflicting information, complicated by finger-pointing.

But what seems to have happened is ...

Deep Horizon was, as the name implied, seeking a deep oil field. The well head is 5000 feet down in the Gulf of Mexico. The well itself drilled down another 30,000 feet, for a total depth of almost 7 miles. That is the current limit of drilling and pumping technology.

The drill appears to have hit a very high pressure deposit of oil and gas. It's like the old joke of a mosquito that hits an artery and explodes. In the case of Deepwater Horizon, it appears that high pressure natural gas flowed back up the drill pipe, and being gas rather than oil, arrived back at the well head at high pressure, more than was expected, and blew out the control valves. Gas escaped above the oil rig and the first spark set it off. Attempts to close the "pinchers" have failed so far, and yesterday a classified NOAA report was leaked reporting that there are three distinct points of leakage, suggesting that the cement well cover built by Halliburton may have failed.

Already there are indications of inadequate safety precautions. Records are missing.

Estimates of how much oil is leaking vary wildly from the media reports of 5000 barrels a day up to 200,000 barrels a day. From the above animation it appears that the rate of flow is increasing.

The situation 5000 feet down at the well head is that of ruptured pipes, cracked concrete well cover, and the wreckage of the Deepwater Horizon sitting on top of it all, making access to the wellhead all but impossible.

Frankly, I doubt even a nuclear bomb could close off this vent, and we may be on our way to seeing the oil underneath the Gulf of Mexico, become the Gulf of Mexico.

The oil companies are facing their own Chernobyl disaster. But they will never admit responsibility, nor will the US politicians who shirked their duty to take care of the US infrastructure, especially in an election year. The race is on to find someone to blame for it all. Hence the stories about North Korean mini-subs, and sooner or later, "Al Qaeda!" The oil companies and the US Government are off the hook if they can claim this was a terrorist attack.

Jordan king talks of 'explosion' in ME

Jordan warns that Israel is pushing the Middle East to the brink of an "explosion" as it continues to build settlements in the occupied East Jerusalem (al-Quds).

"I am afraid the tension could develop into an explosion with all parties paying the price," Jordan's King Abdullah II said, addressing the annual conference of the Jordanian ambassadors, DPA reported on Thursday.

He added that Tel Aviv was "playing with fire" by continuing to act unilaterally in East al-Quds.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to King Abdullah II: thinking people in this world understand that what you are saying is entirely correct.

The question with Israel, as always, is what, precisely, is the world prepared to do to stop this genocide?

Unfortunately, the answer with Israel, as always, is... absolutely nothing, because Israel will always scream "anti-semite" to any country which even in the mildest way, might criticize its national policy.

What we are going to see here will be a brisk, aggressive annexation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank, with any Palestinians left standing herded in to the besieged ghetto that is Gaza.

The possibilities of these Palestinians, evicted from their homes, of having the opportunity to immigrate to anywhere else in the Middle East (very much including Jordan) are limited in the extreme.

Iran to propose reforms at US nuclear talks

Ahmadinejad is expected to defend Iran's right as a signatory to the NPT to master the nuclear fuel cycle, including uranium enrichment.

He is also expected to urge other NPT signatories to pressure Israel to sign the treaty, at a time when Washington is pressing world powers to impose a fourth round of UN sanctions against Tehran for defiantly enriching uranium.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let's do this one more time:

1. Iran is a signatory to the NNPT.

2. As a signatory to the NNPT, Iran allows for inspection of its nuclear power program.

3. To date, as a result of these IAEA inspections, there has been no nuclear materials which have gone "walkabout", nor has there been any enrichment beyond that necessary to fuel a power plant.

4. Israel, which has nuclear weapons (as first revealed to the world by Mordechai Vannunu in the late 80s, and confirmed by both former Israeli Prime Minister Olmert and former US President Carter) refuses to sign the NNPT, or allow for inspections of its nuclear facilities.

5. Under the Symington Amendment, it is illegal for the US to give any financial aid to countries which have nuclear weapons but refuse to sign the NNPT.

6. So under our own US law, every single penny of the 3 billion dollars squeezed out of the US taxpayer annually for Israel is illegal, but administration after administration keeps doing it.

Any questions?!?!?

Drone Pilots Could Be Tried for "War Crimes," Law Prof Says

Drone attacks haven't just become the primary weapon in the American bid to wipe out Al Qaeda and affiliated terrorist networks. "Very frankly, it's the only game in town in terms of confronting or trying to disrupt the al Qaeda leadership," CIA director Leon Panetta said.

But that "embrace of the Predator program has occurred with remarkably little public discussion, given that it represents a radical new and geographically unbounded use of state-sanctioned lethal force," The New Yorker's Jane Mayer recently observed. Before 9/11, the American government regularly condemned Israel for taking out individual terrorists. "Seven years later, there is no longer any doubt that targeted killing has become official U.S. policy."

Web of Debt: The Shocking Truth About Our Money System and How We Can Break Free

The U.S. monetary system is based on a combination of fraud and sleight of hand that allows private debt (i.e., debt created by private banks) to masquerade as public money. This has permitted a shadowy, parasitical, malign elite she [Ellen Brown] calls "the banking spiker" to enrich itself while dominating the global economy and, more often than not, politics. Brown, an admirer of the econmic views of 19th-century economist Henry Carey, wants the power to create money be returned to the hands of the people (specifically, to Congress).

Transocean Deepwater Horizon Explosion-A Discussion of What Actually Happened?

Deep-water drilling is a high-stakes game. It's not exactly a "casino," in that there's a heck of a lot of settled science, engineering and technology involved. But we're sure finding out the hard way what all the risks are. And it's becoming more and more clear how the totality of risk is a moving target. There's geologic risk, technical risk, engineering risk, environmental risk, capital risk and market risk.

With each deep well, these risks all come together over one very tiny spot at the bottom of the ocean.

Gulf Oil Rig Fiasco: It’s About Scarcity and World Government

Obama said on Thursday he was dispatching SWAT teams to inspect oil rigs in the Gulf, a response that struck many observers as odd.

This is a public relations stunt designed to make Americans think the federal government is responding to the disaster. In fact, the government has no intention of doing anything significant. Obama’s response if purely cosmetic and for public consumption.

Levin and many Republicans think Obama is a Marxist and wants a Soviet-like centralized economy. Obama, however, is not surrounded by textbook Marxists who want a revolution in the name of the proles. He is surrounded by bankers and monopoly men. The Obama administration is a creature of the CFR, Trilateral Commission, the Federal Reserve, and Wall Street banks, not the Comintern.

Oil spill disaster is now 'out of control'

The British oil giant faces questions over how much it knew about previous problems with “blowout preventers”, the giant underwater valves designed to shut down oil flow in the event of accidents.

The valves on the rig failed to work after it exploded on April 20. BP technicians have been unable to activate them even though they appear to be undamaged by the blast.

BP has calculated that it might take up to three months to sink a new well that could cut off the flow of the Deepwater Horizon’s oil.

The worst oil spill affecting US waters was caused by a 1979 blowout aboard the Ixtoc, a Mexican rig that discharged at least 130 million gallons, 600 miles south of the Texas coast. It took nine months to plug the leak.

Instead, their research has raised the strong possibility that RA results from vitamin D deficiency due to not getting enough exposure to one of nature's most powerful healers -- sunlight.

Gulf of Mexico oil spill shows disastrous legacy of Halliburton and the real cost of the oil era

Nearly 50% of the seafood consumed by Americans comes from the Gulf of Mexico, by the way. That explains why seafood contains such an alarmingly high concentration of mercury as well as industrial chemicals -- because the Gulf of Mexico is America's toilet where every toxic chemical, heavy metal and pharmaceutical that's flushed down the drain ends up getting dumped. No wonder the Gulf of Mexico is home to one of the planet's largest ocean "dead zones" -- over 6,000 square miles of dead water where fish can't even survive.

And that was before the oil spill.

May 02 06:36

Hurricane Season and the BP Oil Rig Disaster

Why does this matter? Because any attempt to use booms or chemicals keep the oil away from the Gulf Coast would be completely impossible in the event of a major storm entering the Gulf. The combination of high winds, storm surges and high waves would push the oil slick way inland up the bayous and onto the shelter islands that protect 40 percent of America’s wetlands. (Even a moderate wind and a chop on the water near shore was defeating the booms put in place on Friday, and rendering any attempt to burn off the oil impossible.)

Not the least, technical failures are extremely uncommon in car bombs which are carefully assembled in suitable conditions.

Following an undercover investigation in the May edition of Which? magazine, claiming that 10 out of 14 solar thermal installers exaggerated the technology's potential energy savings, experts are questioning the UK government's attempts to regulate the industry before a feed in tariff for renewable heat comes into place next year.

Consumer watchdog Which? asked 14 companies earlier this year to quote for the installation of a solar thermal system at a property in south-east England. The investigation revealed that a number of solar heating installers, such as Everest and Ideal Solar Energy, used high-pressure sales tactics and hugely over-stated the potential benefits of installing a solar thermal system.

Distrust Rising

Whether the 'event' was actually an accident where all the 'fail safe' measures failed or something more, the suspicions of some seem to me to be an example of the growing distrust of government and corporations among the population.

Even if the rig disaster was an accident, the Hegelian Dialectic of problem ... reaction ... solution is coming into play. As Rahm Emanuel would say "You never let a serious crisis go to waste."

How Rev. Moon's 'Snakes' Infested US

As an investigative journalist, I’m not much for catchy political metaphors, but the revelation that snakes and rodents are infesting the Washington Times building as the Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s newspaper sinks into a financial swamp does have some poetic justice about it.

After all, for 28 years, the right-wing Washington Times has sent disinformation slithering through the U.S. political system while creating a nest for propagandists who have befouled American democracy with irrationality and dirty tricks.

Indeed, one could say that Moon's newspaper pioneered the modern style of deceptive “journalism” that is the daily fare on Fox News, angry talk radio and right-wing blogs.

At the height of the Great Depression, a group of unemployed Oakland workers decided to take matters into their own hands. The system wasn’t working, so they set up their own system. Money was nearly worthless, so they decided to live by barter. They called themselves the Unemployed Exchange Association and they soon went on to write a remarkable chapter in American economic history. This is their story.

From My Lai to Khataba: Tangled Webs

It was widely suspected that US Special Forces had committed murder in the village of Khataba in eastern Afghanistan in February 2010, but there were two months of dodging and weaving and downright deliberate dishonesty before the truth had to be admitted.

US soldiers killed pregnant women and then lied about their atrocity. Their lies were endorsed by senior officers. And the war crime would never have been uncovered had not the London Times pursued the matter.

Obama Targets LewRockwell.com

Who actually, in Obama’s phrase, thinks “all of government is inherently bad”? Just Rothbardian anarcho-capitalists, who are “anti-war, anti-state, pro-market,” in the LRC phrase. The state, as Obama implies, feels itself weakened by the reaction to its mass murder, mass looting, mass redistribution, and mass counterfeiting and subsequent economic depression. There has never been a state so big and so rapacious as the US, and the more people who begin to see through its propaganda, the more silly speeches to government audiences the government leader will try to give. The supremely rich taxing-killing machine is “us”? What blithering nonsense.

Judge Won't Subpoena Obama to Testify in Blagojevich Trial

A federal judge in Chicago has refused to issue a subpoena for President Barack Obama to testify at former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's political-corruption trial.

U.S. District Judge James Zagel ruled Friday that lawyers for Mr. Blagojevich had not produced sufficient evidence that Mr. Obama would have anything material to say on the witness stand.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like Obama's political "Chicago machine" is doing a grand job of protecting one of its own.

BP using toxic chemicals to ‘disperse’ spilled oil

Even if the materials, called dispersants, are effective, BP has already bought up more than a third of the world’s supply. If the leak from 5,000 feet beneath the surface continues for weeks, or months, that stockpile could run out.

On Thursday BP began using the chemical compounds to dissolve the crude oil, both on the surface and deep below, deploying an estimated 100,000 gallons. Dispersing the oil is considered one of the best ways to protect birds and keep the slick from making landfall. But the dispersants contain harmful toxins of their own and can concentrate leftover oil toxins in the water, where they can kill fish and migrate great distances.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I just found an article on line regarding biomediation of oil slicks published in English by the Indian Coast Guard, written by one Dr. Pradeep Kumar, located at:

If India understands the critical importance of using bioremediation for oil spills, why doesn't BP and the US government?!?

That is more than a little scary, in terms of the long-term potential toxic effects of these dispersants.

BP documents show it did not plan for oil spill disaster at Gulf Coast rig

BP is facing a £3billion fine for the oil spill on America’s Gulf Coast which is threatening to become the worst ecological disaster in history - and is now under fire for not foreseeing the catastrophe.

Documents emerged yesterday showing BP had previously downplayed the possibility of a catastrophic accident at the rig.

It suggested in a 2009 exploration plan and environmental impact analysis for the well that an accident leading to a giant oil spill – and damage to beaches, fish and animals – was unlikely or virtually impossible.

More than meets the eye in video, but U.S. still needs to apologize

McCord, interviewed on the CBC'sThe Current, said the soldier with him threw up when they discovered the wounded children in the van. He said he and Stieber now have more than 3,000 signatories to their letter.

Listening to pilots and those manning the guns as the video rolled on, I was taken aback by the callous comments, the blatant disregard for human life.

I couldn't understand why the helicopters would shoot up a van, a seemingly Good Samaritan simply stopping to assist a wounded man the Americans actually wanted to go for a weapon so they could take him out.

McCord says this is all part of the training, the desensitizing of any human instinct.

Louisiana oil spill may be five times bigger than previously thought

The view from space indicates that the oil may be leaking at a rate of 25,000 barrels a day, dwarfing the figure of 5,000 barrels that US officials and the British oil giant BP have used in recent days.

That would mean that some nine million gallons may already have escaped from the underwater well following the April 20 explosion that killed 11 rig workers. It suggests the disaster will almost certainly prove greater than the Exxon Valdez tanker spill off Alaska in 1989, which released 11 million gallons and was the worst previous spill at sea.

American Meat Is Even Grosser Than You Thought

Microbial contaminants can be killed by cooking, but chemical residues aren't destroyed by heat. In fact, some of these residues break down into more dangerous substances when heated, according to the FSIS National Residue Program for Cattle, a recent report by the USDA's Office of the Inspector General.

The routes by which veterinary drugs make it into human food trace a disturbing portrait of how large dairy farms operate. Sick dairy cows are given medications to help them recover, but if it appears an animal will die, it's often sold to a slaughterhouse as quickly as possible, in time to kill it before it dies. That way, "[the dairy farmer] can recoup some of his investment in the animal," according to the report.

Is the Cap and Trade Movement Much like the Nazis' Nature Protection Law?

In July 1935, Germany's Nazi regime headed by Adolf Hitler passed the Reich Nature Protection Law. It was one of the most progressive laws of its time. First of all, it was a federal law that applied to the whole country and not just a local ordinance, as had been customary in the past. It was also unprecedented in scope: The law protected nature and the environment in the name of the German people and for their sake, and prevented damage that might have been caused by economic development in undeveloped areas. Anyone whose actions were liable to harm nature or alter the landscape in any significant way, such as developers and building contractors, had to obtain permission from the Reich nature protection office.

The next 9/11 – made in Israel?

Maidhc Ó Cathail views the evidence indicating that dual loyalty officials in the US administration are funnelling American nuclear secrets not only to Israel, but also to terrorist organizations in order to facilitate a “nuclear 9/11” and a massive US attack against Iran or Pakistan.

”If, as Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu admitted, 9/11 was ‘very good’ for Israel, a nuclear 9/11 might be even better. As the spellbinding effects of that traumatic event nine years ago have begun to wear off, and with Americans increasingly questioning the costs of a one-sided alliance [with Israel], it may even be considered necessary.”

Is Obama A Congenital Liar & Sadistic Torturer?

Sir, you have nothing decent to celebrate. In a time of unprecedented debt (you helped to create), a time when Americans continue to lose their homes, cars, jobs, and savings, you should be thinking about some food fasts, to clean your body and soul.

Little boy Bush effectively assaulted our moral and ethical values under right-wing cover; and now, Mr. Obama is doing the same thing, but with left-wing pretenses; and that is essentially the change President Obama has thus far brought to the White House.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With this President, "hope and change" morphed into "shock and awe" faster than the speed of light.
