Consumers warned as fraudulent 'tax refund' emails flood the internet

Consumers were today warned to be on their guard against fraudulent emails telling them they were due to receive a tax refund.

HM Revenue & Customs thinks around 20,000 of the scam emails have been sent during the past week alone, as fraudsters try to cash in on people's preoccupation with tax in the run-up to the self-assessment deadline.

The emails tell people that they are due a tax refund and ask them to fill in an online form giving their bank account or credit card details so that the rebate can be paid.

The fraudsters then use the information to either empty victims' accounts or spend up to their credit limit, before passing on their details to other criminal gangs.

Sensational claims that Gordon Brown has physically attacked his staff in a series of outbursts in Downing Street - and once in America - have rocked the Government.

Well-placed sources say the Prime Minister has been accused of hitting a senior adviser, pulling a secretary out of her chair and hurling foul-mouthed abuse at aides while distraught over an alleged snub by President Barack Obama.

Ed Miliband declares war on climate change sceptics

Climate secretary Ed Miliband broke his silence on the ongoing row about man-made climate change by declaring war on the 'siren voices' who denied global warming was real or man-made.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Remember when this was supposed to be about science?

Now it's war on the heretics!

I understand why.

Never before in the history of modern civilization has a conspiracy by government, academia, and media, to mislead the public on such a huge scale been so undeniably obvious to all.

The global warming cultists are going to fight this down to the very last man, because what they are fighting for is not the global warming agenda, and not even for the carbon tax and global government; but for the credibility of the government/academia/media complex.

Government, lacking the military resources to enslave the population by force, operates like a religion, dependent on the unquestioning faith of the masses to lure them into doing as they are told, believing as they are told, and to continue pouring offerings in the form of taxes into those collection plates.

Climategate represents the first real threat to the culture of blind faith on which the government relies. The congregation is on the verge of a crisis of faith, one which is allowed to progress threatens the blind faith in all the interlinked institutions of the fraud.

Without that blind faith, that willingness in the people to do as they are told, believe as they are told, and to continue pouring offerings in the form of taxes into those collection plates, the government cannot continue to function.

Hence, in a desperate effort to "revive the faith", we get Osama bin Laden recruited to revive the global warming scam under the theory that if you oppose the revealed dogma of Saint Al of the Gore you must be in league with the terrorists. Now we have the US military, the only military in the world to actually USE a nuclear weapon of mass destruction on another country, announcing that they too are worried about global warming. You don;t want to tell the guys with the machine guns they are fools or liars, do you?

And now Ed Miliband steps in and perhaps inadvertently reveals that the debate about Anthropocentric Global Warming is no longer about the science, indeed may never have been, but is simply a war waged on us all by dictators intent on proving they can control what the rest of the world thinks.

"Modern Money Mechanics" by Federal Reserve...Explained

There are two major egregious problems with private banks engaged in fractional reserve lending:
(1) They've done nothing to earn the interest on the money they "create" out of thin air.

U.S. official: Hezbollah arms flow may signal plans for war with Israel

The U.S. is concerned that the continued flow of arms to the Hezbollah militant organization could prompt a war between Israel and Lebanon, State Department official Jeff Feltman said in remarks published Sunday by the London-based Al-Hayat daily.

Feltman, who serves as Assistant Secretary of U.S. State Department's Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, told the daily that the U.S. had no evidence of any Israeli plan to attack its northern neighbor.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Jeff Feltman: what about the continued Israeli invasion of Lebanese air space?!?

And by the way, Jeff, just in case you missed it, as reported on 25 January, 2010 in

Yossi Peled, an Israeli Likud minister, made the following statement:

"“In my estimation, understanding and knowledge, it is almost clear to me that it is a matter of time before there is a military clash in the north … but I don’t know when it will happen, just as we did not know when the Second Lebanon War would erupt,” the reserve army general added, in reference to the 2006 summer war which killed more than 1,200 Lebanese, mainly civilians."

PA funds, endorses anti-fence protests'

The Palestinian Authority is funding and even participating in violent demonstrations against the construction of the West Bank security barrier, defense officials said on Thursday, warning that if not controlled the protests could escalate into a new wave of a Palestinian resistance.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder who actually starts the violence at these protests.

And of course, what this article fails to mention is the fact that much of the fence runs through the territory of the West Bank, leaving smaller, and smaller areas for Palestinian people to live, cutting family members off from other family members, and frequently cutting them off from their agricultural lands.

In other words, Israel is blaming the victims of this illegal land-grab, and threatening them with further strictures if they don't stop the demonstrations.

EU's Ashton says Iran 'worrying', UN next route

"We are worried about what's happening in Iran. I'm disappointed at the failure of Iran to accept the dialogue and we now need to look again at what needs to happen there," Catherine Ashton told Sky News in an interview.

The next step for us is to take our discussions into the Security Council. When I was meeting with (US Secretary of State) Hillary Clinton last week we talked about Iran and we were very clear this is a problem we will have to deal with," she said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These statements on the part of EU's foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton are simply pro-forma.

She knows, just as well as the US knows, that Russia and China are not going to sign on for more sanctions.

The unilateral and multilateral sanctions which may well come forward after the UN security council rejects them will be, simply, a prelude to the almost inevitable world war which will follow.

Blair warns that world faces decision to halt Iran’s nuclear programme

World leaders might have to go to war to stop Iran developing its weapons programme, Tony Blair suggested yesterday.

The former Prime Minister, who is now a Middle East peace envoy, said that Tehran’s actions had made him more afraid today that a rogue state could supply weapons of mass destruction to terrorists than he was when he took Britain to war with Iraq in 2003.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to the sociopathic serial liar, murderer, and alleged "peace envoy" to the Middle East; you lied to the world about Iraq, and you are lying again about Iran.

Here are the facts, Tony.

Iran has been playing entirely by the IAEA rulebook, as a signatory to the NNPT.

Consistent IAEA inspections have proven that no fissionable material is unaccounted for, nor is Iran enriching uranium past the point necessary for fueling a power plant.

Israel, however, which does have nuclear weapons (as validated by both former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and former US President Jimmy Carter), refuses to sign the NNPT and also refuses inspection of its nuclear weapons sites at Dimona and elsewhere.

So the truth here is, the country absolutely flouting the UN and the world regarding their nuclear program is not Iran, but Israel.

Of course, you're not going to mention that tiny little problem, are you?!?

UN climate change panel based claims on student dissertation and magazine article

In its most recent report, it stated that observed reductions in mountain ice in the Andes, Alps and Africa was being caused by global warming, citing two papers as the source of the information.

However, it can be revealed that one of the sources quoted was a feature article published in a popular magazine for climbers which was based on anecdotal evidence from mountaineers about the changes they were witnessing on the mountainsides around them.

The other was a dissertation written by a geography student, studying for the equivalent of a master's degree, at the University of Berne in Switzerland that quoted interviews with mountain guides in the Alps.

Yemen clashes continue, ceasefire offer rejected

Yemen rejected a ceasefire offer from Shi'ite rebels on Sunday and said fighting was continuing, as neighbouring Saudi Arabia accused the insurgents of mounting sniper attacks inside its territory. The conflict with the northern rebels, who complain of social, religious and economic discrimination in the southern Arabian state, has rumbled on since 2004, but intensified last year and drew in oil-rich Saudi Arabia.

TWO FRIENDS REMEMBER HOWARD ZINN

We lost the good voice of historian, intellectual and activist, Prof. Howard Zinn. I met Zinn twice while in the US. I read two of his books and hope to have time some day to read the others. Zinn was not happy with Zionism and frequently criticized the Zionist atrocities, from massacres in Lebanon in 1982 to those in Gaza last year. But, like many leftists, preferred to challenge US imperialism over challenging the destructive Israel-first lobby
in the US. In this, I disagreed with him because I believe Zionism sits at the table of power in Washington DC and is not merely a tool of “US Imperialism”.

The Terror Card: Fear is the Key to Obedience

There are several factors that influence terrorism and they're all connected and manipulated to serve political purposes, in order for the elite to increase their wealth, power, and global domination. The key ingredient to take away people's money, long standing systemic privileges, and their natural rights such as freedom is for governments to snatch it in increments through what social psychologists call the inoculation effect. Per example, you don't take away people’s social security privileges overnight, instead you will surreptitiously do it in small doses by regularly and gradually reducing these benefits to nothing, while the herds become totally desensitized to the idea of losing it.

Could Vancouver 2010 be the next 9/11? (UPDATED 9:00AM EST 1-31-10)

I now believe I have reasonable grounds to suspect there could be a “false flag” operation carried out somewhere in the Vancouver area during the Olympics in Canada. Yes, this is purely speculation, but I feel the mention of it is justified in the interest of our national security to keep an eye on potentially dangerous overlapping occurrences. The games will take place in Vancouver and Whistler from Feb. 12th until Feb. 28th. Below, I have compiled the following suspicious activity and coincidences by searching and analyzing the news from various media sources and by speaking with my own contacts.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The only way to stop a false-flag attack, either at the Olympics or the Superbowl, is to create a public climate in which the planners of suich a false-flag start to worry if the cover story will be believed.

Especially in the wake of 9-11, Saddam's "nooks", Climategate, swine-gate, etc. etc. etc. the US government has to understand that they have lost the faith and trust of the people. It is no longer a slam dunk that the American people will accept what the government tells them at face value. They have to wonder if they might not be believed the next time.

If we can shake their confidence, if we can make them doubt, they will have to call it off.

On Friday, for the one-mile journey from home to his Delhi office, Dr Pachauri could have walked, or cycled, or used the eco-friendly electric car provided for him, known in the UK as G-Wiz.

Robert Fisk: The tree-lined bunkers that could change the face of the Middle East

The newly resurfaced Lebanese roads near the border – courtesy of Hizbollah money – suggest that someone might want to move men at high speed towards the frontier. Perhaps even to cross the border.

Israeli army commanders are talking about this in the Israeli press. A fast, dramatic spring across the frontier to the west – in the direction of Naharia, perhaps, or a grab at the settlement of Kiryat Shmona – and Hizbollah would announce it had "liberated" part of historic "Palestine". Israel would have to bomb its own territory to get them out.

Terrorists 'plan attack on Britain with bombs INSIDE their bodies' to foil new airport scanners

Experts said the explosive PETN (Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate) would be placed in a plastic sachet inside the bomber’s body before the wound was stitched up like a normal operation incision and allowed to heal.

A shaped charge of 8oz of PETN can penetrate five inches of armour and would easily blow a large hole in an airliner.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, they are not very good experts, because a shaped charge only works in a vacuum or open air. The surrounding soft tissue of the body would prevent the Monroe Effect from occurring, so the result is a non-shaped detonation.

And the mechanism to convert a nigh-brissive explosive into a shaped charge involves pieces of METAL, which would not only increase the weight but set off the metal detectors at the gate.

Now, 8oz of PETN is a lot, but given that it is not all that dense a material, it is also LARGE. It would leave a suspicious lump.

Better to simply obtain some commercial liquid explosives used in mining operations and drink it, filling up the stomach and intestines. I can think of an easy way to detonate it using a medicine capsule but for the obvious reasons will not describe it here.

The fact is that this is more propaganda to scare you into going along with the next world war. And it is not even very clever propaganda at all.

The fastest way to end terror is to stop screwing around with other peoples' countries.

Scenarios: How could China hit back at U.S.?

China has the world's biggest pile of foreign currency reserves, much of it held in U.S. treasury debt. China held $798.9 billion in U.S. Treasuries at end-October, displacing Japan in September 2008 as the largest foreign holder.

But China has shown no sign of trying to use that stake to punish the United States. Doing so, or even hinting that it could, would alarm global financial markets and push down the value of the dollar, thus dragging down the value of China's dollar-denominated assets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

However, China could potentially de-link its currency peg to the US dollar, which could cause an enormous world of hurt economically here.

Protest held in Tokyo against US military presence

Thousands of protesters from across Japan marched Saturday in central Tokyo to protest the U.S. military presence on Okinawa, while a Cabinet minister said she would fight to move a Marine base Washington considers crucial out of the country.

Japan and the U.S. signed a pact in 2006 that called for the realignment of American troops in the country and for a Marine base on the island to be moved to a less populated area. But the new Tokyo government is re-examining the deal, caught between increasingly adamant public opposition to American troops and its crucial military alliance with Washington.

US beefs up military presence off Iranian shores

US military officials told AP on condition of anonymity that Washington has taken silent steps to increase the capability of land-based Patriot missiles on the territory of some of its Arab allies in the Persian Gulf region.

This is while Iran is a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and unlike some of its regional neighbors has opened its enrichment plants to UN inspection.

UK's Jewish Chronicle warns Gordon Brown: safeguard Israeli war criminals or else

Gilad Atzmon comments on an editorial in Britain’s top Zionist newspaper in which the paper’s editor, Stephen Pollard, and its chief political editor, Martin Bright, appeared to be threatening British Prime Minister Gordon Brown with electoral defeat unless he restricts the application of universal jurisdiction to ensure that suspected Israeli war criminals can travel to the UK without risk of prosecution.

”In plain language the Jewish Chronicle is suggesting that Gordon Brown, as far as the Jews are concerned, is basically finished. I wonder how long it will take for the British people to wake up and say enough is enough? How long will it take before they say NO to Israeli and Zionist infiltration of their politics, laws and values?”

Barack Obama’s paralysis in the face of the Zionist lobby

Uri Avnery laments Barack Obama’s weakness and lack of leadership, as manifested in his failure to exercise leadership, invest political capital in a confrontation with the Israel and Christian-Evangelical lobbies in Congress and move forward by announcing a clear peace programme for the Palestine-Israel conflict.

In west Pasco, U.S. 19 becoming a retail ghost town

...This weekend marks a dismal business-related milestone for the corridor: Target closed its doors after 18 years on the strip, leaving another gaping hole in a shopping center prominently located near Gulf View Square mall. It was one of only four Targets in the country to close...

OBAMA’S CONSPICUOUS FAILURE

The conspicuous failure of the latest visit to the region by US envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell raises questions as to the Obama administration’s ability — or even willingness — to pressure Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian lands. Prior to his arrival, Mitchell was widely thought to be carrying “serious ideas” that would help resume stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Fateful Geological Prize Called Haiti

Behind the smoke, rubble and unending drama of human tragedy in the hapless Caribbean country, a drama is in full play for control of what geophysicists believe may be one of the world’s richest zones for hydrocarbons-oil and gas outside the Middle East, possibly orders of magnitude greater than that of nearby Venezuela.

Israel will widen any future Lebanon conflict into Syria

The Israeli state must take into account Syria’s role in supporting Hizbullah in any future war with the Lebanese group, an Israeli security analyst said on Friday. Renewed hostilities could also see Israel launch a ground invasion of the Bekaa to cut Syrian supply routes to the Shiite group, Jonathan Spyer, senior research fellow at the Global Research in International Affairs Center, wrote in the Jerusalem Post. Hizbullah officials contacted by The Daily Star declined to comment on the story.

“The logic of confrontation in Lebanon suggests that Syria may find it hard to avoid direct engagement in a future Israel-Hizbullah clash,” Spyer said. The “point of no return” would be if Damascus provided anti-aircraft devices to Hizbullah to use during Israeli violations of Lebanese airspace.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A regional war in this area will spiral into a potential world war very quickly.

And Israel is itching for a way any, which way they can, and are currently doing illegal overflights of Lebanese airspace right now on a consistent basis.

When at some point, the Lebanese military strikes back, that will be the excuse Israel will use for going to war against it, to gain both territory and the water of the Litani river.

I am hoping that the adults in the room in the Lebanese government will not give the Israelis the luxury of getting such a war going, because that may definitely spiral from a regional confrontation to a world war.

Medicine running out at Haiti hospitals, clinics

Basic medical supplies such as antibiotics and painkillers are running dangerously low at some hospitals and clinics in Port-au-Prince, the capital, and in the countryside, alarming doctors who are struggling to keep up with demand.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If the US military presence in Haiti was strictly about humanitarian relief, this situation would not have happened.

Breaking the Silence publishes shocking testimonies from women who served Occupation

There’s a new and shocking booklet of testimonies out from Breaking the Silence, this one from anonymous female soldiers who served in the Occupied Territories and routinely abused the "Arabs" or "illegal aliens." Because they could, or needed to. Ynet has published many of the testimonies, and they’re horrifying/nightmarish, all about the kind of warped psychological/gender power abuse that people talk about in David Hare plays or in Eastern European memoirs. What if these stories of sexualized humiliation were published in the U.S.? (Noam Sheizaf asks). Don’t worry, they won’t be.

Many Gazans remain homeless one year after siege: UN offers temporary mud-brick houses

Thousands of Gazans were made homeless during Israel's three-week military offensive against the Hamas-ruled territory a year ago. Most Gazans are still living in tents.

Majid Al Athamna is one of these homeless people but he is considered lucky to receive the key to his new house from the UN officials. He left his tent to live in a mud house, which the officials told him was just a temporary replacement for the house the Israelis demolished nearly a year ago.

Obama's DOJ Clears Torture Memo Authors John Yoo, Jay Bybee of Professional Misconduct

A long-awaited Department of Justice watchdog report that probed whether John Yoo and his former boss Jay Bybee violated professional standards when they provided the Bush White House with legal advice on torture has cleared both men of misconduct, according to Newsweek, citing unnamed sources who have seen the document.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, folks, it's official: whatever moral compass the government of this country might have had in times past has gone the way of the dodo bird and the dribble glass.

10 Women, 15 Children, Wounded After Soldiers Fired Gas Bombs Into A Palestinian Home

Palestinian medical sources reported on Friday at night that 10 women and 15 children were hospitalized suffering severe effects of tear gas inhalation after Israeli soldiers fired gas bombs into the lower floor a house in Nabi Saleh village, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah.

Local residents rushed to the house and managed to rescue the wounded women and children after pulling them through the windows of the gassed home.

Soldiers violently attacked and beat Manal and Nariman after kidnapping them during the nonviolent weekly protest against settlements and illegal settler violations. Manal is a mother of four children, and so is Nariman.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The soldiers of the IDF must feel when they injure women and kids, because they do it so consistently!

And a memo to Israeli political leadership: if you don't want your soldiers to look like war criminals, stop the IDF from committing the kinds of atrocities which make them look like war criminals, as in the beating of these women.

In the 21st century, the IDF can no longer hide even one of these incidents anymore.

What the TV doesn’t tell us about Haiti

The "globalisation" of capitalism, initiated in the 1980s and triumphant in the 90s, meant in the first place carte blanche to find places around the world to establish the most savage exploitation of the working class, without limits. China, with its miserable salaries and brutal super-exploitation, is the best example, but not the only one.

Obama's Outreach to Americans: Empty Rhetoric, Business As Usual

Obama's rhetoric hides a failed agenda he'll continue, serving capital and militarists, not people in dire need. He wants more business tax cuts and windfalls to stimulate growth and new jobs, repackaged Reaganomics that cost record numbers of job losses in the past two years, well over 500,000 in December alone based on the broader household survey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With this presidency, "change and hope" morphed into "shock and awe" faster than the speed of light!

To gasps from the gallery, Blair said we should be proud of the war

Sir John appealed for calm as a heckler shouted: "What, no regrets? Come on!" His voice fading, Mr Blair insisted that Britain – especially its armed forces – should feel an "immense sense of pride" over the Iraq war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is always the consummate sociopathic political leaders, whose kids were never threatened in battle for private corporate profits, who can make such statements.

Tony Blair, history will judge you as a mass murderer, and declare that on the issue of the invasion and occupation of Iraq by the US and the UK, these two countries were absolutely on the wrong side of history.

Obama Losing Control of Iran Policy

The Senate move reveals an administration losing control of even its own party in foreign policy dealings, as U.S. President Barack Obama has tried to maintain engagement with Iran aimed at curbing its nuclear program, which the Islamic Republic insists is for peaceful purposes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a completely incorrect assessment.

The only power governing US foreign policy toward Iran is neither Obama or the US Senate.

That power is Israel.

Pentagon to Send More Special Forces Troops to Yemen

The Pentagon is assigning more special forces personnel to Yemen as part of a broad push to speed the training of the country's counterterror forces in the wake of the failed Christmas Day attack on a crowded U.S. airliner.

Military officials familiar with the matter said the U.S. will begin rotating the same groups of special forces personnel through Yemen and keeping some of the elite troops there for longer tours, changes designed to help the American trainers develop closer relationships with their Yemeni counterparts.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Great timing; just when the Shiite rebels in north Yemen have signaled that they would accept the government's conditions to end the war, what is the US doing?

Sending in more troops, of course!

Paulson Says Russia Urged China to Dump Fannie, Freddie Bonds

Russia urged China to dump its Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bonds in 2008 in a bid to force a bailout of the largest U.S. mortgage-finance companies, former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said.

Paulson learned of the “disruptive scheme” while attending the Beijing Summer Olympics, according to his memoir, “On The Brink.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice a crescendo of Russia and China-bashing here in the US, in order to deflect Americans' anger away from what our own government has done to destroy this economy.

California controller: State will run out of cash before April

State Controller John Chiang issued a stern warning Friday about California's cash reserves, telling legislative leaders and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger they must act on nearly $9 billion in budget cuts the governor is seeking by March — or the state will run out of cash to pay its bills.

Even with the budget cuts, the state's cash reserve would still be far below that cushion in March and April.

To that end, Chiang is calling for an additional $2 billion in cash-flow "solutions." Looking at previous cash crunches, that could mean some payments, like income tax refunds, would be delayed for a few weeks to keep the cushion intact.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What is currently going on in California is very likely to be played out in many other cash-strapped states.

Clinton warns China to stay the course on Iran nuclear sanctions

Reporting from Paris - Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton warned China on Friday that it faced international pressure and increasing isolation unless it joined other world powers in sanctioning Iran to try to halt Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

The admonishment from Clinton came on the same day the Pentagon announced more than $6 billion in arms sales to Taiwan, a move certain to infuriate Beijing and add a new complication to the U.S.-Chinese relationship.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Secretary Clinton either has to be barking mad, to make such a demand, or the US has made the decision that a world war is inevitable, possibly because of the following potential economic scenario.

As reported on 17 January, 2010 in:

http://www.gold-eagle.com/editorials_08

"The move to reduce the use of U.S. dollars in trade has been a two-part process. While China has engaged in a long series of bilateral trade agreements to boost its share of global trade, it has simultaneously inked numerous "currency swaps", supplying its trade partners with renminbi to use in their future trading - and permanently excluding the U.S. dollar from those bilateral relationships./nielson011710.html

"Indeed, inept Western analysts point to the large hoard of U.S. dollars still in China's possession, and conclude (erroneously) that the Chinese government is still increasing its holdings of U.S. IOU's through "buying" its debt. In fact, such accumulation has almost stopped."

China is willing to take whatever "hit" that it must on the U.S. dollars which it is holding (through currency swaps), because it is effectively "sterilizing" global trade from the cancerous effect of the biggest flood of greenbacks in history (and the horrific inflation they would cause). Instead of these depreciating dollars being used again and again, in that back-and-forth flow of trade, those dollars have been removed from global markets - and replaced with renminbi."
