U.S. Drone Strike Math – 41 Terrorists Targeted, 1,147 People Killed

A lot of Americans have an impression that drone strikes are less damaging to civilian populations that conventional airstrikes. This would be false. In fact, earlier this month I highlighted an article from the Guardian that demonstrated how in reality drone strikes are 10x more likely to harm civilians per incident. Now, thanks to a recently leaked document we find that many more civilians including children have been killed in these strikes than many of us would like to admit. In fact, of the 746 people killed in drone strikes in Pakistan from 2006-2009, an incredible 20% were civilians and 94 (13% of the total) were children.

Albuquerque Cop Who Killed Homeless Man Will Retire With Full Benefits

Last March, the killing of James Boyd by the Albuquerque Police Department shocked the nation. The public got to see with their very own eyes, how callous and vicious some police officers can be. Boyd, who was widely known as a schizophrenic, had been camping out in the foothills of Albuquerque, New Mexico (doing nothing and bothering nobody) when he was approached by several heavily armed members of the local police department.

What ensued was one of the most despicable displays of police violence in recent history, but has since been overshadowed by the controversial shooting of Michael Brown. After a long standoff with police, during which Boyd was armed with a small camping knife, video showed the police gunning down the homeless man. The footage of the event appeared to show Boyd surrendering before the police shot him in the back.

WATCH LIVE: Protesters take over the city of Cleveland

On Tuesday around 3 p.m., protesters filled Public Square in response to the recent killing of 12-year-old Cleveland boy Tamir Rice and the lack of an indictment in Ferguson, MO.

The growing crowd then walked onto the shoreway, blocking traffic between West 3rd and East 9th Streets. The group is chanting "Hands up! Don't shoot!" They also chanted "No justice! No peace!" and "Whose streets? Our streets!"

Chief of Police Calvin Williams is on the scene with multiple units responding.

"People need to remain calm and be peaceful," said Williams.

Protesters have a united front, encouraging others to "link up and stay late." Cleveland Police are along the perimeter, letting it play out. Police have called in a sheriff's bus, among other units, in case of mass arrests.

Ferguson: Why was the grand jury decision kept secret for hours?

During the height of the months-long protests in Ferguson last summer, police said demonstrators could protest all they want -- as long as they stayed home after dark.

The reasoning back then: Troublemakers from outside the city come in to create chaos under cover of darkness, making police's job of maintaining order difficult.

And yet, even though a grand jury reached a decision on whether to indict Officer Darren Wilson by Monday afternoon, the decision wasn't publicized until hours later -- around 8 p.m. in Missouri.

So why did officials wait so long?

Here Comes France: Right-Wing Leader Marine Le Pen Demands Central Bank Repatriate French Gold

First Germany, then the Netherlands, perhaps Switzerland this weekend, and now the French right-wing Front National, which shockingly came first in May's European parliament elections, and whose leader Marine Le Pen is currently polling in first place in a hypothetical presidential election (in both a first and run off round), ahead of president Hollande, has sent a letter to the governor of the French Central Bank, the Banque de France, demanding that France join the list of nations which have repatriated, or at least tried to, their gold.

Deutsche Bank's Modest Proposal To Central Banks: "Purchase The Gold Held By Private Households"

In other words, all the world's central banks would need to do to "liberate dormant liquidity" , held, as DB suggests, by private households in various "unwanted" troves of physical gold, and in the process also build up their gold holdings, would be to make said gold unattractive to hold.

And if that fails, well, FDR already showed the world how to deal with an intransingent public which does not want to part with its gold in Executive Order 6102, something which the Dutch Central Bank which also made the news recently when it secretly repatriated 122 tons of gold from the NY Fed, already did years ago when it advised pension funds to sell their gold: confiscation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Make gold unattractive" means artificially driving the price down. And the reference to FDR is more than passing as FDR's gold confiscation was a forced sale of private gold to the government ... at $20 an ounce!

Protests in 90 US cities follow the announcement that a grand jury will not indict police officer Darren Wilson on any charges for his actions in the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year old African-American from Ferguson, MO.

PLEASE REMAIN CALM AND NON-VIOLENT!

I know it is frustrating to not take action in the face of the failure of the Grand Jury to send Darren Wilson to trial, not so much over the Michael Brown shooting but because we have witnessed years of unparalleled police brutality and murder against the American people as a whole, regardless of color, race, religion, gender, and so forth. But this government wants to save itself from the anger of the American people by dividing us against each other and tricking us into hating each other. DO NOT FALL FOR IT! Ferguson Officer Darren Wilson Not Indicted In Michael Brown Shooting

A grand jury has decided not to indict Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson for killing 18-year-old Michael Brown, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch announced Monday.

McCulloch said members of the jury met for 25 days and heard over 70 hours of testimony from over 60 witnesses before reaching their decision.

The Aug. 9 death of Brown, who was unarmed, sparked massive demonstrations in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson and a national conversation on race and law enforcement. Activists had predicted a new wave of demonstrations if Wilson was not indicted -- not only in Ferguson, but in the greater St. Louis region and in other cities across the country.

Holocaust Denial And Uncomfortable Truths

“Holocaust denial laws” are now in place in about a dozen countries. Defenders of these laws claim that the expression of unconventional views about the Jewish genocide is “hate speech” and “incitement to violence” and therefore must be suppressed.

But history shows the greatest purveyors of lies, hatred and incitement to violence are those with the power to spread their poison by manipulating popular opinion via the control or complicity of the mass media. Through a purposefully constructed lens of political correctness the despicable becomes normal. It is by this insidious process that tyrants make it normal and acceptable to murder those whom they consider threatening or inferior. Despite his attempt to cover up his crime, Fennell was eventually arrested and ultimately pleaded guilty to kidnapping and improper sexual contact with a person in custody. He received a ten-year sentence and is currently slated for release in September 2018. Lear also filed a civil suit against Fennell and the City of Georgetown, which was settled for $100,000. But for her, the story doesn’t end there. Fennell’s arrest prompted several other women to come forward alleging similar threats and assaults, including one additional rape. It has shaped our character as a people with limitless possibilities – people not trapped by our past, but able to remake ourselves as we choose.

But today, our immigration system is broken, and everybody knows it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Those immigrants still had to follow the immigration laws of the time. Remember Ellis Island? Nobody was simply allowed to walk into the nation without permission. And the immigrants were welcome in times when the nation was growing and labor was needed. But today we have 94 million Americans willing and able to work who cannot find a job.

Will Darren Wilson Be Indicted? Ferguson Police Officer Who Shot Michael Brown Doesn't Expect Criminal Charges

Darren Wilson doesn't think he will face criminal charges in the death of Michael Brown, the Associated Press reports. Wilson, the white police officer who fatally shot 18-year-old Brown on Aug. 9, igniting a furor over race relations in Missouri and across the nation, could be indicted by a grand jury at any time.

Rivero challenges the NSA

Nobody got this. The coffee mug is still in the box. I am batting 1000 against the NSA's cryptographers! My first NSA challenge came out over a year ago. Had I been a real terrorist, I would have had ample time to carry out my nefarious plans.

This proves that the NSA cannot and does not track real criminals and terrorists, but exists to spy on law-abiding Americans citizens on behalf of a government grown paranoid over public awareness of their crimes and corruption.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, Jeff must have really ticked someone off because his website is under massive DOS attack right now, although nobody has any idea what the motive might be. But it is intense enough where the upstream providers are getting involved in trying to track down and block the attackers.

UPDATE: Jeff Rense's radio network has also been targeted.

And where is the mighty and omniscient NSA during all this? Aren't they supposed to be monitoring the internet for evildoers? :)

Living under the sea: Japanese visionaries unveil underwater city plan

Will people ever live in underwater cities? Japanese construction firm says it is possible by 2030. The visionaries revealed a $25 billion deep-sea eco-city plan called Ocean Spiral for 5,000 people that will produce energy from sea resources.

Many have pondered the idea of living under the sea while sci-fi film directors such as George Lucas tempted our imagination with stunning images of underwater cities. Such was the Gungan city consisting of a mass of hydrostatic bubbles shown in the first part of the “Star wars” epic space film series.

Now a Japanese construction firm Shimizu Corp. says that building an underwater residential area is not a fantasy and aims to build one by 2030 – in just 15 years.

The Mistral Affair: Breach of Contract or Hostile Act?

On November 18th 2014 Sputnik news reported that the French government has denied access to the Russian training crew for the Mistral ship Vladivostok docked at St. Nazaire. The French Ministry of Defence denied knowledge of the action but their denial is in line with the French President’s continual habit of saying one thing and meaning another. The alarming question now has to be asked whether this is just a commercial breach of contract or a hostile act, because the French government has not just “failed” to deliver the first of the two Mistral ships contracted and paid for as the press reports state, it has refused to deliver them and will not unless certain conditions are met, political conditions, which have strategic importance for Russia and conditions that can never be met unless Russia surrenders its strategic position and its defence of the Ukrainians of the Donbass.

Network News' Shameful Decision To Snub Obama's Immigration Address

A decade later the rules seem to have shifted. All four networks have announced they won't carry President Obama's address to the nation tonight about his long awaited plan to take executive action to deal with the pressing issue of immigration reform. (Two Spanish language networks, Univision and Telemundo, will carry the address live in primetime.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

US Should Consider Lethal Aid to Ukraine, Says Obama Nominee

U.S. President Barack Obama's nominee to fill the number two post at the State Department says the White House should consider providing Ukraine with lethal, defensive military equipment.

Testifying Wednesday before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Tony Blinken said that arming Ukraine's military could force Russia to rethink its role in the conflict gripping eastern Ukraine.

Both houses of Congress have voiced support for such aid, but the Obama administration has so far stopped short of providing lethal equipment.

The Kyiv government and a host of Western nations have accused Moscow of providing direct aid, including armor and other military hardware, to separatists. NATO also has accused Moscow - which annexed Ukraine's Crimea Peninsula in March - of sending more tanks and troops into eastern Ukraine in the past two weeks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Tony Blinken: it is obvious that either you completely do not understand the true narrative of what happened when Viktor Yushchenko was removed from power, in a Western, EU, ECB putsch which put Western-centric tycoon Poroshenko in control, or chosing to completely ignore it.

After the sacking of Ukraine's duly elected leadership, Crimea, which had been traditionally a part of Russia until it was annexed by Kruschev in the 50's, petitioned to become a part of the Russian Federation. The referendum, to achieve that end, was conducted under the presence of international observers, and considered to be free and fair.

Let us be clear here: Russia did not annex Crimea: Crimea requested to become a part of the Russian Federation.

The song lyrics from Sam Cooke's "Wonderful World", where he sings the line "don't know much about history" are cute, in the context of song: but sir, it worries me greatly your historical revisionism here could have some horrific implications for the future of this both this country and this planet.

Yes, I understand that the US government and Congress are slouching toward a military confrontation against Russia on a number of fronts; with Syria; with Iran, and with the Ukraine.

With these weapons, Prooshenko will, most probably, begin ordering heavy attacks in the Eastern Ukraine provinces which have broken away, and it will only be a matter of time before Russia feels it must act.

I would like to politely point out that at this time in its history, the US military does not have the money, the troop strength, or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome against Russia in a military confrontation. And that, sir is what makes the miltary scenario so scarily dangerous.

And Mr. President: would it be humanly possible, please, to nominate someone for this position who is infinitely less eager to ultimately lead us on a path to war with Russia?!?

They warn that chaos is around the corner if that’s how it goes down, even though they’d much rather have Republican leaders fight the president alongside them.

Asian demand for crude to drive switch to renminbi

The increasing demand for crude in Asian countries such as China was enough reason for the region to prepare to pay for trade in the Chinese currency renminbi (RMB), an HSBC official said.

Georges Elhedery, HSBC head, Global Banking and Markets (Mena), noted that the region was slow to adopt RMB since trade between the Middle East and China was still highly dependent on the greenback.

“The Middle East has been slow in adopting RMB but we’re starting to see a shift in the region towards the Chinese currency,” Elhedery told Gulf Times in a meeting with reporters at the HSBC offices in Doha.

He explained that minimal oil and gas exports to the West have made the region dependent on Eastern buyers such as South Korea, Japan, and China, which was critical in setting the international price of crude.

American Ranking Plummets in Global Index of 'Personal Freedoms'

In an age of expanding national security powers, increasing surveillance state, and rolled-back civil liberties protections, Americans' perception of their own personal freedoms is plummeting, according to the annual ranking by the Legatum Institute in London.

In Washington D.C. this week to promote their findings, researchers with the Legatum Institute measure a nation's prosperity on a number of factors including health, safety, education, economy, opportunity, social capital, governance and personal freedoms.

According to the 2014 Index (pdf) released earlier this month, in the measure of personal freedom, the United States has fallen from 9th place in 2010 to 21st worldwide—behind such countries as Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

How Police Use Military Tactics to Quash Dissent

As we wait for the grand jury verdict on whether to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for the killing of Michael Brown, schools in Ferguson are preparing to close, the police are stocked up on riot weapons and white supremacists are pledging to kill. A sand-colored, mine-resistant military vehicle was seen parked in front a local Dairy Queen. Protesters are organized and eschewing violence for clever forms of civil disobedience, but know they will likely face violence: Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has already declared a state of emergency in Ferguson.

Armored trucks in the street and a fear of mayhem are more common abroad, but Ferguson shows they now have a place in the suburbs of America. Police have militarized from to boots to brainstem.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that at both the Federal and State level, the government wants violence in Ferguson, to viciously stomp down with extreme prejudice, and show the world the the US striving to become "number one" when it comes to police brutality, particularly against minorities.

It is very sad to me that the crisis brought on by the killing of Michael Brown cannot become an opportunity for the police to change their institutional culture and reach out to the citizens of this community, which would be the best possible outcome.

Unfortunately, no matter the Grand Jury's decision, I would almost be willing to bet that there will be violence, not only in this town, but in other densely-packed urban areas where joblessness and poverty are rife.

And why?!? Because the good jobs which used to be the bedrock of the middle class in this country have been outsourced/offshored to the cheapest labor pools possible on this planet.

And it hasn't mattered much who is in office, as this development has unfolded over the last 30 years, because those same executives which are doing this are contributing generously to their candidates of choice, who have now become representative of corporations, not at all of We the People.

I sincerely believe that most people, given the opportunity, will work when it is possible; it is just that there are no jobs for them to go to, due to offshoring/outsourcing.

I can never condone violence, as an answer to any societal problem; but I can understand how it comes about, out of intense frustration that absolutely nothing is working properly in your life.

And being unemployed, and barely surviving on public assistance, have to be frustrating in the extreme.

And the longer one is out of a job, the more prejudicial companies are about hiring that person.

President set to sign immigrant plan in Las Vegas

President Barack Obama is traveling to Las Vegas on Friday to sign an executive order that would offer temporary legal status to millions of immigrants who are in the country illegally and set off a new fight with Republicans in Congress.

Obama plans to speak at Del Sol High School, which he first visited as a presidential candidate in 2008 and where he first laid out a broad immigration plan in January 2013.

This time he will be arriving in Las Vegas to deliver at least part of his promise for reform, and will renew a challenge to the new GOP majorities in Congress to pass an immigration bill if they don’t like it, White House officials said.

Obama, in a video released on Facebook, said he would make a nationally televised announcement on immigration from the White House at 8 p.m. EST today, then would go to Las Vegas to promote the plan Friday. Del Sol High is in a largely Hispanic neighborhood east of McCarran International Airport.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Funny how Eisenhower was able to completely stop the illegal immigrants with only 1/10th the border patrol agents Obama has! What is broken about immigration is actually enforcing the laws and THAT is the responsibility of the White House. It is called the Executive Branch because under the Constitution, the President executes the will of the Congress. Clearly, with regards to enforcing the immigration laws, it is the President who has failed, not the Congress. But, sadly, we have a President who appears to be suffering from narcissistic personality disorder, unable to admit when he is wrong (just look at Obamacare) and hence will exceed his lawful authority to create new laws to cover up his ineptitude at enforcing the will of the Congress and the American people.

Staples boost profits by shutting 170 stores

These days it seems like the only hot-selling item at Staples is the company's giant store eraser.

The office supplies chain revealed plans Wednesday to shut an additional 30 stores this year, accelerating its ongoing efforts to slash costs. These store closures would be in addition to the 140 already announced.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Behind the visible closing of business with retail spaces lies thousands of small and home-based businesses that have also fallen victim to the post 2008 economic decline. These small and home businesses were the primary customers of office supply stores and as they fell, so must the office supply stores. This increases hardship on the remaining small and home businesses, hastening their demise. The dominoes are falling across the economic landscape, but as long as Wall Street is happy, DC could care less.

Banking culture breeds dishonesty, scientific study finds

A banking culture that implicitly puts financial gain above all else fuels greed and dishonesty and makes bankers more likely to cheat, according to the findings of a scientific study.

Researchers in Switzerland studied bank workers and other professionals in experiments in which they won more money if they cheated, and found that bankers were more dishonest when they were made particularly aware of their professional role.

When bank employees were primed to think less about their profession and more about normal life, however, they were less inclined to dishonesty.

"Many scandals..have plagued the financial industry in the last decade," Ernst Fehr, a researcher at the University of Zurich who co-led the study, told reporters in a telephone briefing. "These scandals raise the question whether the business culture in the banking industry is favouring, or at least tolerating, fraudulent or unethical behaviours."??

Webmaster's Commentary:

And this, folks, is the reason the next time there is a major bank failure, or scandal in the US, those bankers responsible should be tried, convicted, and incarcerated in the polar opposite of a "Club Fed".

In this country, crime only seems to pay if one is already wealthy, like for a Bernie Madoff, who ripped off his clients to the tune of anywhere from 13 to 21 billion dollars.
