Children die in harsh Peru winter

Almost 250 children under the age of five have died in a wave of intensely cold weather in Peru.

Children die from pneumonia and other respiratory infections every year during the winter months particularly in Peru's southern Andes.

But this year freezing temperatures arrived almost three months earlier than usual.

Experts blame climate change for the early arrival of intense cold which began in March.

"Global warming is making the planet colder. Don't think about it, just trust us."

U.S. to spend another $1 billion on flu vaccine

The United States will spend another $1 billion on ingredients for an H1N1 vaccine, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said on Sunday.

"There'll be another $1 billion worth of orders placed to get the bulk ingredients for an H1N1 vaccination. Congress has agreed with the president that this is the number one priority, keeping Americans safe and secure," Sebelius said on CNN.

Sebelius has said plans were on track for a mid-October vaccination program, although it was not certain Americans would be offered the vaccine for the so-called swine flu.

Goldman Sachs Likely to Post Huge Profits, Analysts Say

Up and down Wall Street, analysts and traders are buzzing that Goldman, which only recently paid back its government bailout money, will report blowout profits from trading on Tuesday.

Analysts predict the bank earned more than $2 billion in the March-June period, thanks to its trading prowess across world markets. If they are right, the bank’s rivals will once again be left to wonder exactly how Goldman, long the envy of Wall Street, could have rebounded so dramatically only months after the nation’s financial industry was shaken to its foundations.

Ghana's PR used to cover up the Obamas' ineffectiveness in Russia

Putin Did All the Talking
By John Batchelor July 12, 2009
Behind POTUS’s journey to Ghana was the POTUS embassy in Moscow, and I mention that there are large, unattractive, compelling questions about the three days in Moscow.... The word from Russian sources, via my sources, is that POTUS and his team were ineffective, presumptive, hasty, evasive, unprepared, unappreciative, aimless, superficial. ...The second night, POTUS stayed in the hotel while all official Moscow puzzled what could there be to this behavior. .. At breakfast the third day, Putin lectured POTUS for two hours. Putin usually does all the talking, however he is usually dominating Russians, not a president.

Children: Father didn't abuse us: Ex-Vancouver police officer spent nearly 20 years in prison

A 33-year-old son recalled how, at age 9, he was repeatedly questioned, alone, by now-retired Detective Sharon Krause, of the Clark County Sheriff's Office. He said that after months of questioning, he said he had been abused just to get Krause to leave him alone.

A 30-year-old daughter said she doesn't remember what she told Krause at age 5, but recalled Krause bought her ice cream.

The brother and sister, who live in Sacramento, Calif., said that while growing up in California they were told by their mother, who divorced Spencer before he was charged, that they were blocking out the memory of the abuse.

They said they realized as adults the abuse had never happened.

Brits Tell Goons With Needles To Stick It Where The Sun Don’t Shine

The trial balloon went up today on the UK government’s efforts to impose a mass mandatory vaccination program against swine flu, but judging from the response on a major newspaper website, millions of British citizens will tell the goons with needles to stick it where the sun don’t shine.

Sky News reports today that, “The entire population could be vaccinated against swine flu as health chiefs draw up plans to build a nationwide immunity to the disease.”

According to health authorities, they plan to have 60 million plus UK citizens vaccinated by this time next year, despite the fact that only one healthy person has died from swine flu in Britain.

The resounding response to the government’s efforts to prepare everyone to accept the shot is a vehement, “I don’t think so!”

Arrested Pug Owner Fired Over Anti-Semitic Allegation

A Greenpoint woman's altercation with a police officer over carrying her sick dog through the subway has put her out of a job. To recap: Chrissie Brodigan, a VP for Online Media at Plum TV, says that after she argued with Officer Joel Witriol while trying to carry her pug out of the subway, he arrested her, grabbed her breasts, and punched her in the back while saying, "If you're going to act like a woman I'm going to treat you like a woman." Other witnesses corroborated Brodigan's account, but one witness and an unidentified source told the Post that Brodigan yelled at Witriol, the city's first Hasidic officer, "You f---ing Jew, you're not even human. Jewish people think they own everything."

Immigrant drug informant goes public after his hopes of legal residency evaporate

Ernesto Gamboa hoped his knowledge of drug trafficking, put to use on the side of law enforcement, might earn him legal status in this country.

In fact, law enforcement so valued his undercover drug work that his handler drew him back here to help a task force build drug cases four years ago, after Gamboa had left the U.S. and gone home to live in El Salvador.

In the end, however, the 43-year-old Salvadoran has not been granted permission to remain in the U.S. legally. Instead, the federal government is moving to deport him — a development he believes is a sure death sentence, given the prominence of those he's helped convict.

Escalation Scam: Troops in Afghanistan

The president has set a limit on the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan. For now.

That's how escalation works. Ceilings become floors. Gradually.

But "escalation" isn't mere jargon. And it doesn't just refer to what's happening outside the United States.

Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on July 7 that no limit has been set. Speaking to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, he sounded an open-ended note: "There is not a ceiling on troop levels in Afghanistan."

Mullen's comment was scarcely reported in U.S. media outlets. It has become old news without ever being news in the first place.

Report: Taliban captures district in E Afghanistan

Taliban made this achievement while a massive offensive, involving 4,000 U.S. Marines and 650 Afghan troops, has been going on since July 2 to restore government authorities in Taliban-held territories.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is completely impossible to win this war militarily.

And unfortunately, the knuckleheads at the Pentagon and the White House who allegedly "planned" the war in Afghanistan were collectively guilty of selective amnesia and magical thinking.

You absolutely cannot win what is essentially a land war from the air.

Viet Nam should have taught US military and civilian leadership that long ago, but apparently, that lesson hasn't been learned yet, condemning many more of our military (and innocent Afghan non-coms) to get killed or maimed in this endless, murderous campaign.

The total complement of US military forces here (not counting the mercenaries) is about 68,000 troops, give or take. The old Soviet Union couldn't "pacify" Afghanistan with 500,000 pairs of boots on the ground.

The government in Kabul is so arrogantly corrupt that Afghan citizens think their political figures are so crooked they have to screw their socks on in the morning.

Unfortunately, Afghanistan is cursed to be just the place of real estate which would be great for the implementation of pipelines across it, giving whoever controls those pipelines tremendous control of both the region, and the world's flow of oil.

So, the Powers that Be have decided that an infinite number of US and Afghan lives are worth that price, no matter how exorbitant that price may be in money and blood.

For these people, it's only taxpayers' money; and it's never their kids fighting, getting maimed, and dying on the front lines.

Netanyahu: Palestinian recognition of Jewish state 'key to peace'

Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu declared Sunday that the recognition by the Palestinians of Israel as a Jewish state was key to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No problem. all Israel has to do is recognize the Palestinian state.

But of course, that is the sticking point. Israel refuses to grant to Palestine that which it demands for itself. That has been the sticking point for 60 years.

Further complicating the matter is that Israel still has no official borders. Palestine cannot know what it is supposed to recognize. Palestine could agree to recognize Israel only to be told by Israel that Israel INCLUDES Gaza and the West Bank.

This is typical Israeli tactics; make an offer impossible to accept, then foist the blame onto the other party for refusing.

The largest-ever US aid convoy to help the people of Gaza was stopped at the Suez Canal on Saturday on its way to Al Arish, where the rest of the group and supplies will join them before heading for the border crossing into Gaza.

The activists are part of a convoy of at least 200 people -- all Americans, including Charles Barron, a New York City Councilman -- that plan to be in Gaza by July 13.

Watching Whales Watching Us

The two strandings in September 2002, however, did have something intriguing in common. It was noted by the Canary Islands rescuers that naval vessels were carrying out exercises that day not far offshore, a situation that had accompanied four other mass whale strandings on Canary Islands beaches since 1985. And while no such military exercises were being conducted off the beaches of Isla San José, the vessel that the scientists radioed turned out to be a research ship dragging an array of powerful underwater air guns that were repeatedly set off the previous morning in the course of seismic tests of the region’s ocean floor.

In Wake of Turmoil In China, Minorities Face Painful Options

The bloody riots on Sunday show just how deep the mistrust between Han Chinese and other ethnic groups runs, and how quickly a seemingly minor disagreement can escalate. Obama Science Advisor Called For “Planetary Regime” To Enforce Totalitarian Population Control Measures

President Obama’s top science and technology advisor John P. The concepts outlined in Holdren’s 1977 book Ecoscience, which he co-authored with close colleagues Paul Ehrlich and Anne Ehrlich, were so shocking that a February 2009 Front Page Magazine story on the subject was largely dismissed as being outlandish because people couldn’t bring themselves to believe that it could be true.

Professor Pileni's Resignation as Editor-in-Chief of the Open Chemical Physics Journal

By Niels Harrit

After the paper entitled "Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe," which I along with eight colleagues co-authored, was published in the Open Chemical Physics Journal, its editor-in-chief, Professor Marie-Paule Pileni, abruptly resigned. It has been suggested that this resignation casts doubt on the scientific soundness of our paper.

However, Professor Pileni did the only thing she could do, if she wanted to save her career. After resigning, she did not criticize our paper. Rather, she said that she could not read and evaluate it, because, she claimed, it lies outside the areas of her expertise.

But that is not true, as shown by information contained on her own website (http://www.sri.jussieu.fr/pileni.htm). Her List of Publications reveals that Professor Pileni has published hundreds of articles in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. She is, in fact, recognized as one of the leaders in the field. Her statement about her ”major advanced research” points out that, already by 2003, she was ”the 25th highest cited scientist on nanotechnology” (http://www.sri.jussieu.fr/pileni.htm).

"It's possible that he [von Brunn] might have been enticed to the Holocaust Museum," said Ghost Troop member William Fox. Fox said that Israeli intelligence agents could have shot security officer Stephen Johns, then shot von Brunn, then planted the rifle.

"Today's shootings at the DC Holocaust Museum bear some of the classic earmarks of a false flag operation," wrote conspiracy theorist Eric May on the Web site amfirstbooks.com.

"Mind you, I'm not asserting that this is a false flag operation, but neither am I discounting the possibility. I exhort Internet researchers to look into this carefully and publish results," May wrote.

4 Ways to Tell When a Real Recovery Has Begun

For the foreseeable future, there will be an aggressive hunt for two economic recoveries.

One is the technical improvement in economic indicators that signals the economy is growing again. That's the one economists care about, which is why they scour the numbers on retail sales, business inventories, purchasing manager sentiment, subatomic inflation, the mood in Shanghai, and anything else that could help pinpoint the exact inflection point for a turnaround.

The other recovery, the one that most consumers are waiting for, is the one in which companies stop firing and start hiring, banks return to normal lending, and families stop worrying about jobs and income. And that turnaround—the consumer recovery—is likely to take much longer to materialize than the technical recovery.

I’m told it is “reckless” to travel in international waters. It should, of course, be safe – and would be if the high and mighty Western allies, always talking big against terror, were to enforce maritime law and rid the Eastern Mediterranean of marauding Israeli pirates.

Big Bankers Mounting Sneak Attack on Consumers

Have you received your thank-you note? I'm still waiting for mine.

More than a year into the Wall Street bailout, I've yet to get any sort of "thank you" from even a single one of the big banks that you and I propped up with $12 trillion in direct giveaways, indirect giveaways, government guarantees and sweetheart loans. You'd think their mommas would've taught them better. But I've begun to think that waiting on a simple gesture of banker gratitude is like waiting on Donald Trump to have a good hair day -- ain't gonna happen.

And here we are, almost 9 hrs later in Alexandria. Awaiting the day the Egyptian government releases those cars so that we can make our way into the hearts of the Gazans.

Because no matter how much they try to delay us or try to make it impossible for us to reach Gaza, we will continue to stand here waiting. Time of course is not on our hands on this journey, but we will continue to stand. Viva Palestina!

These children are talented, but their memories and nightmares have taken over their creativity.

Kevin R. Ryan: Demolition access to the WTC Towers

Bremer was on the international advisory board for the Japanese mining and machinery company, Komatsu. At the time, Komatsu had been involved in a joint venture agreement with Dresser Industries, the oil-services/intelligence front in which Prescott Bush Sr. and George H. W. Bush got their start with Neil Mallon. The Komatsu-Dresser mining division operated from 1988 to 1997. In July 1996, it patented a thermite demolition device that could “demolish a concrete structure at a high efficiency, while preventing a secondary problem due to noise, flying dust and chips, and the like.”[25] Residues of thermite, the highly energetic chemical mixture, have been confirmed in samples of the WTC dust, and the use of thermite at the WTC was also revealed by environmental data.[1, 2, 3, 4, 26] Dresser Industries merged with Dick Cheney’s Halliburton in 1998.
