Holocaust soap claim angers Jewish groups

ewish groups in Montreal are denouncing a curiosity shop where a bar of soap allegedly made from Holocaust victims' fat is for sale.

The beige bar of soap, in a store on Montreal's Plateau-Mont-Royal, is inscribed with a swastika and displayed in a glass case with a card that says "Poland 1940."

The store owner – who is Jewish – claims the soap was "made out of people ... the fat of people," but he wouldn't grant an interview about his stock, explaining he thought it was important to display and sell such items to remember the Holocaust.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reason Jewish groups are angry is that if that bar of soap is purchased and subjected to modern lab tests (and if I had the money I would do precisely that) what they would find is that it is a special low-fat soap made during the war when available fats were needed for feeding troops in winter, and that what little fat was in the soap came from pigs, not humans.

The soap story has already been discredited many times. The soap was stamped "RIF" which was claimed to stand for "Rein jüdisches Fett" or "Pure Jewish Fat" even though the middle letter was an "I" not a "J", and "RJF" stood for "Reichsstelle für Industrielle Fettversorgung", an industrial fat bureacracy.

But a good story is a good story and a necessary one to justify the theft of Palestine to a world that had told Hitler he was not allowed to steal Poland, and so the story was promoted throughout the controlled media until lab tests on other surviving bars of soap exposed the myth as nothing but wartime propaganda.

Debt Fears Send Rates Up

A sudden drop-off in investor demand for U.S. Treasury notes is raising questions about whether interest rates will finally begin a march higher—a climb that would jack up the government’s borrowing costs and spell trouble for the fragile housing market.

For months, investors have focused their attention on the debt crisis in Europe, but there are signs the spotlight is turning to the ability of the U.S. to finance its own budget deficit.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This government cannot get out of the financial mess it has created, in part because they gave away the high technology manufacturing that was the golden goose of our economy to foreign countries. Then, in a relentless capitulation to corporate donors, the financial markets were turned into an open air casino where long-term investment growth was eschewed for short term speculative manipulations.

In short the Federal Government could not have screwed up this economy more if they had intended to(and many think it was). Being a government no longer of the people, but of lawyers and bookkeepers, every solution they can think of it s new law or a new accounting trick, neither of which can address the real problems of loss of productivity. Toss in the crumbling of America's infrastructure on which production and transport of product depends and America has collapsed as an industrial power.

The Hopi people have a word, Koyaanisqatsi, which means life out of balance, crazy times, and more to the point, a state of life that demands immediate change. We are there. It is time for a change.

Unless there is a sudden and dramatic change in direction this nation is doomed. As a nation, we cannot afford to continue the wars we are now mired in. As a nation, we lack the manufacturing might to survive a new global war. As a nation we can no longer afford to support the oligarchs of Wall Street, Washington, and Tel Aviv, while the very structure of our nation crumbles into rubble and corrosion. As a nation we cannot allow ourselves to be looted with more hoaxes like human-caused global warming, or health care on the pay-now-wait-years-to-use system.

Above all we cannot afford the taxes we have now, let alone the higher taxes planned by the government. Taxes not only sap the wealth of the people, taxes sap the enthusiasm and energy of the people, who would be willing to work hard to rebuild the nation but balk at ever higher loads of work the benefits of which seem to flow everywhere but where it is needed. The embassies get million-dollar foreign crystal but our roads are crumbling. The President is shopping for a new Air Force 1 but half the schools are closed. The number of billionaires in the US doubled last near along with the number of homeless. The United States can send Israel billions of dollars in weapons but cannot keep its own people fed. It is one thing to get the people to work hard to build their own communities. It is unrealistic to demand that hard work to give away that wealth far over the horizon, no matter how many guns you point at them. This has been tried more times than can be counted throughout history and it always ends badly. Insanity is repeating the same behavior over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

Something has gone very wrong with this government. I no longer think it can be repaired. I did for the first 12 years I ran this website. But now I have come to a different conclusion about this government. It is hopelessly mired in its own greed and short-sightedness. It is broken and corrupted beyond salvage and the time has come to consider a replacement.

NHS porters and cleaners can snoop on your medical records

As many as 140,000 non-medical staff, including porters and housekeepers, have access to sensitive NHS patient files, it emerged last night.

The astonishing lack of privacy protection has been revealed by a Freedom of Information survey.

Government guidelines say only staff involved in 'providing and supporting patient care' should have access to confidential information.

But trusts are interpreting the rules so widely that administrators, porters and IT staff are all cleared to potentially delve into a person's medical file.

The Treasury would be able to issue instructions on how many shares to sell, when to sell them and at what price while eliminating concern that the sales are based on non-public information.

Sex abuse scandal in US, Italy taints papacy

Revelations that the Vatican halted the investigation of a Wisconsin priest accused of molesting some 200 deaf boys have eerie echoes in Italy, where 67 deaf men and women accused two dozen priests of raping and molesting children for years. Only now - a year after the Italian case became public - is the Vatican directing the diocese to interview the victims to hear their testimony about the accusations, The Associated Press learned Thursday.

Patron Saint of Buggery?

No one can accuse the Roman Catholic church of learning from experience. Long years after fumbling its way through handling a sexual abuse scandal in the U.S., the church finds itself in the first stages of a sexual abuse scandal in Italy. And it seems determined to follow exactly the same script that brought it so much grief in the U.S.—initial denials that abuse could possibly have occurred, laughably inadequate diocese “investigations” that concluded there was no abuse, grudging acknowledgment that some abuse occurred (but far, far less than what is alleged).

Doctor Asserts Church Ignored Abuse Warnings

The German archdiocese led by the future Pope Benedict XVI ignored repeated warnings in the early 1980s by a psychiatrist treating a priest accused of sexually abusing boys that he should not be allowed to work with children, the psychiatrist said Thursday.

“I said, ‘For God’s sake, he desperately has to be kept away from working with children,’ ” the psychiatrist, Dr. Werner Huth, said in a telephone interview from Munich. “I was very unhappy about the entire story.”

Dr. Huth said he was concerned enough that he set three conditions for treating the priest, the Rev. Peter Hullermann: that he stay away from young people and alcohol and be supervised by another priest at all times.

St. Paul law firm: Pope implicated in abuse cover-up

A discovery by a St. Paul law firm could put the legacy of Pope Benedict XVI in question.

Lawyers at Jeff Anderson and Associates say they've uncovered documents implicating the pope in the cover up of sexual abuse by a Wisconsin priest.

The firm represents five people in a lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Attorney Jeff Anderson said, "All trails involving the cover-up and concealment of sexual abuse by Catholic clerics lead to Rome and the pope."

Anderson said Vatican and church documents show the Archbishop of Milwaukee sent a letter to Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger--now Pope Benedict--back in 1996 asking how to proceed with the Rev. Lawrence Murphy, a priest accused of sexual misconduct.

Good-Bye... Truth Has Fallen And Taken Liberty With It

The American corporate media does not serve the truth. It serves the government and the interest groups that empower the government.

America's fate was sealed when the public and the anti-war movement bought the government's 9/11 conspiracy theory. The government's account of 9/11 is contradicted by much evidence. Nevertheless, this defining event of our time, which has launched the US on interminable wars of aggression and a domestic police state, is a taboo topic for investigation in the media. It is pointless to complain of war and a police state when one accepts the premise upon which they are based.

The militarism of the U.S. and Israeli states, and Wall Street and corporate greed, will now run their course. As the pen is censored and its might extinguished, I am signing off.

Russian oil major pulls out of Iran

Russia's largest private oil major said it was suspending an oil project in Iran because of U.S. pressure.

LUKoil has 1,600 petrol filling stations in the U.S. and last year announced plans to build an oil refinery in the U.S. These investments would be vulnerable to tough sanctions the U.S. imposed on international energy companies operating in Iran.

…the budget office is required to take written legislation at face value and not second-guess the plausibility of what it is handed. So fantasy in, fantasy out.

Rights groups fear Graham bill will sanction indefinite detention

News that Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham is negotiating with the White House on legislation to create a framework for handling terrorism detainees has some civil rights groups alarmed at the prospect of indefinite detention without trial being encoded into US law.

Spencer Ackerman at the Washington Independent notes that Graham has recently voiced support for just such a legal mechanism.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The concept of someone being held in indefinite detention without charges and having their day in a court of law is completely extra-Constitutional.

And if you don't think that this kind of legislation wouldn't be used against a peaceful American citizen who dares to logically criticize or condemn some governmental policy, you'd better think again, and quickly!

The potential for abuse in the application of this legislation stinks to high heaven.

Ex-S.F. Arhcbishop Given 10-1 Odds Becoming Next Pope

The Irish bookie site Paddypower is laying down 3-to-1 odds Pope Benedict XVI will be ousted over accusations that he was behind misdeeds such as helping shield a priest who purportedly raped hundreds of deaf boys. Climategate exposed the greatest scandal in the history of modern science but you’re never going to hear this from any of the official investigations. Andrew Orlowski at The Register has uncovered why.

One of those is Lord Oxburgh, recently appointed – on the Royal Society’s recommendation – to lead one of the two official enquiries into Climategate. Mysteriously, Lord Oxburgh has failed to mention GLOBE in his register of interests.

Canada reassigns warship to fight al Qaeda attacks

Canada has cancelled a visit to India for one of its warships and assigned it to counterterrorism operations in the Gulf of Aden because of risks of al Qaeda attacks, an officer on the ship said on Wednesday.

Afghan opiates led to the death of 1 million people by overdose in the last 10 years, and that is United Nations data. Is that not a threat to world peace and security?' Ivanov asked journalists after the meeting.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OF course, the indelicate question will not be put to NATO leadership, which is: who is really profiting from the sale of these drugs?!?

It sure as heck is not the typical Afghan opium farmer.

G.I. Drugged

Turns out the government has spent upwards of $1 billion on “common pain and psychiatric medications” for soldiers from 2001 to 2009. The military is drugging up soldiers more than ever – 76 percent more than at the start of the two-front war — and in doing so, keep them in the ranks, in the field, behind .50-caliber machine guns and engaging in patrols, despite physical and emotional pain, depression and post traumatic stress likely held-over from previous tours in-country.

One wonders how far the military will go to keep warm bodies in the warzone.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Is it possible that some of these soldiers are turning to drugs because they realize, at a really gut level, that the US is on the wrong side of history, in these wars in Afghanistan and Iraq?

US Downplays Hopes for Afghan Reconciliation

With the Karzai government entering into face-to-face peace talks with the insurgent faction Hezb-e Islami earlier this week, the United States seems to be going out of its way to downplay the chance of any diplomatic resolution of the ongoing war.

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates warned that the timing for peace talks was all wrong, because the Taliban leaders aren’t convinced that they’re going to lose the war.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates: when, sir, will you consider the timing "right" for reconciliation talks to proceed?!?

How many more of our brave young men and women in uniform will need to continue to fight, get killed, or maimed for life for a war where the outcomes are only to produce private profit for corporations?!?

And that begs the question: why is the the US in Afghanistan in the first place?

There are two outcomes, one of which has already been accomplished. The other is still illusive.

The first outcome, about which we can well say, "mission accomplished", is the control of the drug trade, from which so many profit so handsomely.

The second outcome had to do with "pacifying" Afghans to the point where the pipelines could be installed with which to control Eurasian oil. That, outcome, nearly 9 years on in Afghanistan, appears as elusive as ever.

Gate's position here makes utterly no sense whatsoever, when the only tangible, possible way to stop the violence is for the US to invest in this reconciliation, not try to stop it.

Wouldn't that make for greater security, the kind of security which would make possible the installation of those pipelines?!?

Forgive me: I was just being logical here.

'I was stabbed in the back,' says soldier who used human shield in Gaza

The trial began on Wednesday for two Israel Defense Forces soldiers suspected of using Gazan children as human shields during Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip in 2008, according to Channel 10.

The soldiers, who breached the army's rule against using civilians as human shields during war, are tried for violating IDF authority and for inappropriate conduct.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice that this soldier is not repentant for having done something fundamentally, repugnantly morally wrong; he is angry because he got caught and prosecuted for doing it.

Maliki Backers Threaten ‘Escalation’ Over Lack of Recount

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki today reiterated calls for the full manual recount of the votes cast earlier this month, though the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has insisted repeatedly that it will not allow political pressure to affect its decision to refuse it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This refusal to honor the election results on the part of al Maliki could result in riots, or worse.

The Crisis That Wasn’t

The propaganda spewed at the current AIPAC conference makes it equally clear that Israel and its supporters are the leading advocates of an attack on Iran and their victory over Obama will only embolden them. Israel can trigger a war by bombing Iran and provoking retaliation that will draw the United States in and there is nothing Washington can do to stop that. When war happens and the awful consequences become clear Obama and Hillary will wish that they had stood up to Israel and AIPAC this week and stopped the madness. But by then it will be too late.

Evidence Grows for Multiverse

Back to National Geographic:

The find adds to the case that chunks of matter got pushed outside the known universe shortly after the big bang —which in turn hints that our universe is part of something larger: a multiverse.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Or ...

The Big Bang is just religion disguised as science, and there really is no border to the universe.

What the evidence reported in the story is showing is that there is enough matter to create a gravity field detectable in the motions of the galaxies we can see from Earth, but the gravity field points to a source well outside the presumed edge of the universe which has been calculated from the observed red shift, which is assumed to be caused solely by relative velocity. But since the prime assumption is that our "banged" universe cannot reach that far, that there simply must be a wholly separate universe out there. Of curse, since "universe" means "all that there is", whatever is out there creating this gravity field is by definition part of this universe, which creates a paradox for the Big Bangers.

But here is another one that I postulated some time back for which no banger has yet had an answer.

When we gaze out into the night sky, we see galaxies extending into the distance as far as we can see, in every direction. The presumed size of the universe (and its age) keep getting revised as more distant objects get detected, but here it the problem. If the universe is finite, it should appear lopsided. In one direction we should see the end of the universe much more closely than the opposite direction, unless the Earth just happened to be in the exact center of that universe, and of course the odds against that are (pardon the expression) astronomical!

Climategate has proven that "scientists" are just normal folk subject to political pressure, and religion is the oldest political body in the world.

The fact is that this latest discovery puts the final nail in the Big Bang model, even though the die-hard bangers will refuse to see it.

Curbing Taliban opium trade could cut support

Curbing the Taliban's multimillion dollar opium poppy business was a major goal of a military operation to seize this former insurgent stronghold. With the town in NATO hands, the Marines face a conundrum: If they destroy the crops and curb the trade, they lose the support of the population — a problem for which they have no easy solution.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So now that the US/NATO forces control Marjah, what do they also control?!?

They now control the drug trade, which includes where the drugs wind up.

As reported on 12 March, 20910 in

"Russia's envoy to NATO has sharply criticized the alliance's battle with drug trafficking in Afghanistan, saying it has led to a surge in heroin smuggling that is endangering Russia's national security."

"Russia "is losing 30,000 lives a year to the Afghan drug trade, and a million people are addicts," Rogozin said. "This is an undeclared war against our country."

Coincidence?!? I think not. The introduction of cheap, illegal drugs to a country is one way of destabilizing a country without firing a shot.

Netanyahu Faces Choice: Peace Or Settlements

The Israeli leader will not likely be able to settle east Jerusalem with Jews and maintain strong relations with the Obama administration. He will be hard pressed to please his far-right coalition partners and still negotiate credibly with the Palestinians. And he cannot alienate important allies and still expect decisive international action against archenemy Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The writer of this article makes a critically wrong assumption here.

They assume that Netanyahu and the Israeli government actually want peace.

Netanyahu and the Israeli government simply want territory, by any means necessary, and will do whatever they feel the need to do to obtain this outcome, period, end of discussion.

Is there a real "split" between the Israeli and US governments?!?
There were a couple of UN General Assembly resolutions condemning the Israeli conduct on human rights yesterday, and the US voted against all of them.

And if there were a split, would the US and Israel just have signed a huge arms deal (for which, by the way, the US taxpayer will be shouldering the bill, as usual)? If there was a real rift, would this deal have gone through at all?!?

No, Israel will continue annexing illegal land with impunity, East Jerusalem, Gaza, and the West Bank, until there will be no territory left for a Palestinian state.

And the US government will simply continue to go along as Israel's enabler, because Israel has a stranglehold over US foreign policy.

Albert Einstein on the task of humanity -

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'universe,' limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a prison, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons close to us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from our prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all humanity and the whole of nature in its beauty." – Albert Einstein

Netanyahu heads home with US-Israeli spat unresolved

In comments before leaving the United States, Netanyahu insisted that the two close allies had made "progress," but it was clear the divide over settlement activity had not been bridged.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is political theatre of the highest order.

What "progress" there was which was made during these meetings had everything, I would be willing to bet, had to do with tweaking a timeline for a US attack against Iran, and nothing to do with the settlement issue.

Homeowners Facing Foreclosure Take Own Lives

The foreclosure crisis in Philadelphia is now becoming a matter of life and death. Eyewitness News has learned that in the past month, two homeowners took their own lives before sheriff's deputies arrived to tell them that they were being evicted.

"They really don't understand that it's imminent, it's going to happen. Take some sort of proactive steps to stop it from happening," foreclosure prevention director Darrel K. Stewart said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Darrel K. Stewart: the President's much-touted "Foreclosure Prevention Program" isn't working because lending institutions refuse to lower payments to allow homeowners who are "under water" to survive financially!

Therefore, there are few to zero "proactive steps" to take under those circumstances.

Norman Finkelstein may be a curmudgeon who can barely contain his contempt for institutions he feels have violated the public trust. But look past the attitude and sometimes poor choices (which, after all, Finkelstein’s nemesis Dershowitz has in spades) and he’s an excellent, even obsessively detailed scholar, and certainly no anti-Semite. And he’s fundamentally morally right. We Jews especially should be outraged.

Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in the United States this week armed with a mandate from the Israeli parliament. A large majority of legislators from all of Israel’s main parties had supported a petition urging him to stand firm on the building of Jewish settlements in occupied East Jerusalem — the very issue that got him into hot water days earlier with the White House.

Given the Israeli consensus on Jerusalem, there was no way Mr Netanyahu could have avoided rubbing that wound again in his speech on Monday to the annual conference of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the powerful pro-Israel lobby group.

Catholic Church quietly expelling and punishing children, homeless

Catholicism is awesome, isn't it? Whilst we've all been appalled by the international scope and scale of the decades long abuses against children in the Catholic Church in Europe something all too typical has been going on within its walls right here at home.

First of all, in Colorado, we have the Rev. Bill Breslin, an Irish American pastor, defending his decision not to allow the child of a lesbian couple to continue to attend school in his parish. That kid should have picked better parents, apparently.

I confess I'm no biblical scholar but I do recall that Jesus said something very specific on this topic: "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of God."
