Obama Defends Expansion Of Fed Powers

President Obama defended his recent decision to give the Federal Reserve expanded oversight powers over the nation's biggest financial institutions, during an exclusive interview with CBS' The Early Show.

While his critics argue the Fed was partly responsible for letting reckless practices on Wall Street get out of control, the president disagreed.

"It wasn't the Fed," Mr. Obama said.

Sure, the opposition made it widely known, that they would sue Ahmadinejad in court for defamation. But he seemed quite confident that he could prove his case in open court with documented evidence. If this is true, a lot of rich people would loose a lot of money. And some might even go to jail.

Obama's Undeclared War On Pakistan Continues

By Jeremy Scahill

June 22, 2009 "Rebel Reports" -- Three days after his inauguration, on January 23, 2009, President Barack Obama ordered U.S. predator drones to attack sites inside of Pakistan, reportedly killing 15 people. It was the first documented attack ordered by the new U.S. Commander in Chief inside of Pakistan. Since that first Obama-authorized attack, the U.S. has regularly bombed Pakistan, killing scores of civilians. The New York Times reported that the attacks were clear evidence Obama "is continuing, and in some cases extending, Bush administration policy." ...

Suspected US missile strike kills six in South Waziristan

PESHAWAR: A suspected US missile strike killed six militants in Pakistan’s South Waziristan tribal region Tuesday, officials said.

‘A missile attack by a suspected US drone took place in rugged mountainous terrain in Neej Narai in South Waziristan,’ said a Pakistani security official who did not want to be named.

He said the drone fired three missiles, adding that ‘six militants were killed and seven others wounded in the attack.’

Another security official confirmed the incident and casualties, saying that the missiles destroyed a compound, a bunker and two vehicles of the Taliban.

It was not immediately known whether there was any high value target present in the area at the time of attack.

Israel Land Grab: Palestinian plots up for grabs

A Palestinian advocacy group is accusing Israel of removing by stealth, what Palestinians see as a one of the key elements of any future peace deal – the right of return for refugees.

Adalah, a legal centre for Arab rights in Israel, claims that the possibility of Palestinians returning to the homes they left in what is now Israel is slowly being eroded away by the sale of an increasing number of their properties to private individuals.

In most cases, the original owners are either in exile or unable to afford the prices offered by tender on the Israel land administration website.

"Based on its law, Israel is allowed, as a state, to use this property. However they are not allowed to sell it to private hands," Hassan Jabareen, the managing director of Adalah, said.

Israel Land Grab: Outcry over Silwan

Outcry over Silwan
By Jacky Rowland, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Jerusalem

The Palestinian village of Silwan clings to a steep hillside facing the southern walls of Jerusalem's Old City.

In the valley below, Al Bustan neighbourhood stretches out in the shadow of Haram al-Sharif, also known as the Temple Mount. It is a setting rich in meaning for Muslims, Jews and Christians.

But the Israeli authorities in Jerusalem have plans for the network of narrow alleyways and walled compounds that make up Al Bustan.

They say the area has been ear-marked for parks and open spaces – and most of the homes here were built without permits.

Which is bad news for Khaled Mohammad Rouwady, his children and grandchildren who live crammed together in a few small rooms.

WASHINGTON: In an unusually harsh article published in The Washington Post on Monday, President Asif Ali Zardari blamed the United States for the present mess in Pakistan, claiming that Washington used his country as a ‘blunt instrument of the Cold War.’

But in the same article, he urged his American allies to send ‘immediate assistance’ to help him save democracy.

The tone and the content of the article surprised many in Washington, causing some to speculate if relations between the two governments were still as friendly as both say.

Diminishing Middle Eastern Christians

Apart from the consequence of the invasion, Iraqi Christians, especially those in Mosul, came under attacks unleashed by the Salafi militants as well as the Al-Qaeda.
These Salafi groups did not appear over night in the Arab countries. Some regional governments have been funding these groups primarily to target Shia Muslims and those Sunnis who rose up against extremism.
Therefore, it is no wonder to see that the holy Shia sites including Askariya shrine and Imam Musa al-Kadhim shrine as well as churches became the targets of such groups. Interestingly, many of these regional governments are very close allies of the West, especially the US.

About Prince RP & Rob Sobhani

Why Prince Reza Pahlavi has credibility with Iranians is because of his support of human rights and not because Iranians want the return of monarchy. RP stood up by Iranians when Iranians were victims of IRI and at the same time were attacked by INS in L.A. in Dec 2002 and RP published a one page open letter to President Bush and paid to print it in major US papers. These are the kind of things people care about when thinking of RP and not the anti-democratic record of Shah's regime. Of course, RP's family is the reason he gets press, but since he has used it to speak for human rights in Iran, people care for what he has had to say when calling for *democracy* in Iran and not calling for return of nightmare of Savak in Iran.

Obama Regulatory Reform Plan Officially Establishes Banking Dictatorship.

President Obama’s plan to give the privately-owned and unaccountable Federal Reserve complete regulatory oversight across the entire U.S. economy, which is likely to be enacted before the end of the year, will officially herald the beginning of a new form of government in the United States - an ultra-powerful banking dictatorship controlled by a small gaggle of shadowy and corrupt elitists.

Seeing Through All the Propaganda About Iran

Iran’s political crisis continues to blaze. It’s still impossible to say which leaders or factions will emerge victorious, but one thing is certain: the earthquake in the Islamic Republic is shaking the Mideast and deeply confusing everyone, including the US government.

Highlighting the complexity of this crisis, Meir Dagan, the head of Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, reportedly voiced his hope that Iran’s embattled president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, would remain in office. On the surface, that sounds absurd, since Ahmadinejad is Israel’s Great Satan.

But, according to Dagan, if Ahmadinejad’s supposedly "moderate" rival, Mir Hossein Mousavi, came to power, it would be harder for Israel to keep up its propaganda war against Iran over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Big Brother in Basel: Are We Trading Financial Stability for National Sovereignty?

“Big Brother” is the term used by George Orwell in his classic novel 1984 for the totalitarian state that would lock into place in the year of his title. Why he chose that particular year is unclear, but one theory is that he was echoing Jack London’s The Iron Heel, which chronicled the rise of an oligarchic tyranny in the United States. In London’s book, the oligarchy’s fictional wonder-city, fueled by oppressed workers, was to be completed by 1984. Orwell also echoed London’s imagery when he described the future under Big Brother as “a boot stamping on a human face – forever.” In Secret Records Revealed: The Men, the Money, and the Methods Behind the New World Order (1999), Dr. Dennis Cuddy asked:
“Could the ‘boot’ be the new eighteen-story Bank for International Settlements (BIS) which was completed in Basel, Switzerland, in 1977 in the shape of a boot, and became known as the‘Tower of Basel’?"

US Remote viewing, drone bombing, civilian victims

Iraq, Afghanistan wars coordinated from afar
by Staff Writers
Tampa, Florida (AFP) June 19, 2009
In a windowless room at the sprawling MacDill Air Force Base, home to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), several dozen officers monitor developments across the Middle East, the Gulf and Central Asia 24 hours a day.
Despite all the high-level coordination, there are sometimes mistakes -- mistakes that often prove costly in places like Afghanistan and Pakistan, where the US air strikes are deeply unpopular.
US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have their own command posts and operations centers, but personnel at Creech Air Force Base near Las Vegas, in the western US state of Nevada, maneuver the pilotless Predator and Reaper drones that fly over Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.

What Actually Happened in the Iranian Presidential Election? - A Hard Look at the Numbers

However, the double standard applied by Western news agencies is striking. Richard Nixon trounced George McGovern in his native state of South Dakota in the 1972 elections. Had Al Gore won his home state of Tennessee in 2000, no one would have cared about a Florida recount, nor would there have been a Supreme Court case called Bush v. Gore. If Vice-Presidential candidate John Edwards had won the states he was born and raised in (South and North Carolina), President John Kerry would now be serving his second term. But somehow, in Western newsrooms Middle Eastern people choose their candidates not on merit, but on the basis of their “tribe.”

Reza Pahlavi, son of the former Shah of Iran, has continually appeared on satellite radio and TV shows beamed into Iran, repeatedly calling for civil disobedience in order to topple the Islamic Mullahs. He promotes a US-UN backed referendum to decide whether Iran is to be governed as a constitutional monarchy, which he says he can lead as Shah, or a "secular democracy."

Barack and Barney Look to Further Plunder Freddie and Fannie

When a homeowner goes out without locking his doors and leaving some lights on, he is inviting trouble.

In a similar fashion, the American public should prepare itself for a continued plundering of the portfolios and balance sheets of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae by our leading housing finance gurus, Barack Obama and Barney Frank.

Iran Falling to US PSYOPS?

Paul Craig Roberts
June 22, 2009President Obama called on the Iranian government to allow protesters to control the streets in Tehran. Would Obama or any US president allow protesters to control the streets in Washington, D.C.?

We are now witnessing in Tehran US "attempts to foment a popular revolution" in the guise of another CIA-orchestrated "color revolution".

There was more objective evidence that George W. Bush stole his two elections than there is at this time of election theft in Iran. But there was no orchestrated media campaign to discredit the US government.

Ron Paul: The World's Most Popular U.S. Congressman

Months after his long-shot bid for the Republican presidential nomination ended, Rep. Ron Paul has become a hot ticket on the international stage. Unlikely as it may seem, Paul, a Texas Republican, is the most popular member of Congress outside the United State, if foreign television appearances are any indication.

How much international media does a typical member of Congress do? "Practically none," says a top House GOP communications aide.

Housing Market Disaster Worsens

The brief moment of hope that housing had hit a bottom and that both the rate of home sales and prices would improve is slipping away. The pressures that will push prices down, by another 20% in some markets, are rising interest rates and an unemployment rate that will almost certainly go over 10% and stay there for several quarters.

Unemployment crisis grips US states

Obama's economic advisers predicted in January that with passage of the economic stimulus package, the US unemployment rate this year would not exceed 8 percent in 2009. It has already hit 9.4 percent, rendering meaningless the stimulus package's modest promises of job creation. Most economists now believe that the US unemployment rate will top 10 percent by year’s end, and that it could rise to 11 percent at some point in 2011.

There is general agreement, moreover, that employment levels and conditions of labor will not return to those that prevailed prior to the financial crisis. This is no accident. The ruling elite, led by the Obama administration, has seized on the crisis as a long-awaited chance to restructure class relations to its advantage for decades to come.
