THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

"CEOs of most of the world's largest corporations daily make decisions that destroy the lives of many other human beings. Only about 1 to 3 percent of us are sociopaths - people who don't have normal human feelings and can easily go to sleep at night after having done horrific things. And of that 1 percent of sociopaths, there's probably only a fraction of a percent with a college education. And of that tiny fraction, there's an even tinier fraction that understands how business works, particularly within any specific industry. Thus there is such a shortage of people who can run modern monopolistic, destructive corporations that stockholders have to pay millions to get them to work. And being sociopaths, they gladly take the money without any thought to its social consequences." -- Thom Hartman

Judge Bybee's cruelty: In approving torture, his remoteness from the actual torturers increases his degree of responsibility.

And she quoted from the judgment against Eichmann: "[T]he extent to which any one of the many criminals was close to or remote from the actual killer of the victim means nothing, as far as the measure of his responsibility is concerned. On the contrary, in general the degree of responsibility increases as we draw further away from the man who uses the fatal instrument with his own hands."

Looking Behind the Curtain

The "club" is probably the most powerful force behind the curtain. There have been conspirary theories about secret groups, but they work together like Anti-Trust groups to just rig the financial markets. The club has been untouchable because they can hire government attorneys directly who truly control far more than anyone has been willing to expose.

US created Taliban and abandoned Pakistan, says Hillary

Two days of continuous congressional hearings on the Obama administration’s foreign policy brought a rare concession from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who acknowledged that the United States too had a share in creating the problem that plagues Pakistan today.

In an appearance before a subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee on Thursday, Mrs Clinton explained how the militancy in Pakistan was linked to the US-backed proxy war against the Soviets in Afghanistan.

You Are Being Lied to About Pirates

If you became a merchant or navy sailor then - plucked from the docks of London's East End, young and hungry - you ended up in a floating wooden Hell. You worked all hours on a cramped, half-starved ship, and if you slacked off for a second, the all-powerful captain would whip you with the Cat O' Nine Tails. If you slacked consistently, you could be thrown overboard. And at the end of months or years of this, you were often cheated of your wages.

Waterboarding Approved Specifically To Justify Iraq War

I have just learnt something which has convinced me that Bush, Cheney and Rice are indeed evil in the sense that Hitler was evil. I did not actually believe that until today.

The excellent and much-respected Marjorie Cohn, President of the National Lawyers Guild of the USA and Professor of Law at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law, has discovered that waterboarding was first approved in July 2002 by Condoleeza Rice, specifically to force confessions of links between al-Qaida and Saddam Hussein.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just keep that evil in mind when deciding whether to go along when the government insists that drastic changes are needed to deal with the flu pandemic.

It's now leaking out that there was more going on than met the eye at the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) Summit in Montebello, Canada in August. The three amigos, Bush, Harper and Calderon, finalized and released the "North American Plan for Avian & Pandemic Influenza."

Obama Didn’t Ban Torture

In fact, the President has not “banned” torture. Torture was illegal before President Bush came to office, through our incorporation of the Geneva Convention into domestic law. (This is to say nothing of centuries of American custom and tradition holding that torture is unconscionable and morally abhorrent.) Members of the Bush administration did not somehow “unban” torture; they simply chose to ignore the law.

They Still Think This Is About Politics

At some point they are going to figure out that for most of us, we don’t care if the person has a ( R ) or (D) behind their name when they were instituting a policy of torture. That is what is so depressing (to me, at least) about the Ari Fleischer’s and the Thiessen’s of the world. They honestly seem to think this is nothing more than a partisan witch-hunt, the same old Washington gotcha poltics. It isn’t. When you torture people, you have crossed a really clear line. Innocent people are dead. Lives have been ruined. Our international reputation has been destroyed. Yes, the Bush administration will get most of the blame, but that is because they were in charge and they did this, not because of what party they happen to belong to.

Israeli army probe lacks credibility and is no substitute for independent investigation

A briefing paper distributed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to journalists yesterday, which states that “All findings are to be used as background information to be attributed to the reporter only”, lacks crucial details.

England, like the world, has been waylaid by the much more virulent swine flu hysteria.

Illinois-based Baxter working on vaccine to stop swine flu outbreak in Mexico

DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Specialty drug maker Baxter International Inc. will work with the World Health Organization to develop a vaccine that could stem an outbreak of a deadly swine flu strain in Mexico.

Baxter spokesman Christopher Bona said Saturday that the Deerfield, Ill.-based company has asked the WHO for a sample of the flu strain.

He says Baxter has patented technology that allows the company to develop vaccines in half the time it usually takes — about 13 weeks instead of 26.

There have been 20 confirmed deaths in Mexico of the swine flu, with nonfatal cases also confirmed in Kansas and California.

Humans don't have a natural immunity to swine flu strain that emerged in Mexico in March. Officials have warned the outbreak could become a global epidemic.

In the Washington Post in 2007, was an article which recounted the stories of a group of World War II veterans who played a huge role in the efforts of our country during World War II.

A Torture Timeline: What We Know So Far

So much information about the Bush administration's torture policies and rationales has surfaced in recent days that, contrary to the secrecy meme of those days, we are now in danger of suffering from TMI - too much information.

So I thought it would be helpful to put together a timeline of known facts, reports and claims to try to give some chronological perspective to it all.

It turns out there is so much information already known that just summarizing it is torture. The timeline thus focuses mainly on the torture memos themselves and the events occurring at the time they were written, tested and replaced.

Did Pat Buchanan Just Say That Martin Luther King Would Approve Torture?

Pat Buchanan was just debating torture on Hardball and made what is—even for him—an astounding statement. Jonathan Turley was arguing that torture is illegal—we've signed a treaty outlawing and have prosecuted people for it in the past.

Buchanan argued that national security needs to trump mere laws. Then his mind-blower:

"There's a higher moral law here, that's what Dr. King was all about."

So...Martin Luther King would have approved torture?

While we're on the subject, John McCain—ordinarily very good on torture—said today that prosecuting people from the Bush administration would make the U.S. like a "banana republic" because only in such countries are past administrations brought up on trial.

If this trend continues, the annual ice melt in 2009 may be less than in recent years, and the late summer Arctic ice extent may rebound from its well-publicized downtrend.

Fake Al Qaeda

"Ana raicha Al Qaeda" is colloquial for "I'm going to the toilet". A very common and widespread use of the word "Al-Qaeda" in different Arab countries in the public language is for the toilet bowl. This name comes from the Arabic verb "Qa'ada" which mean "to sit", pertinently, on the "Toilet Bowl". In most Arabs homes there are two kinds of toilets: "Al-Qaeda" also called the "Hamam Franji" or foreign toilet, and "Hamam Arabi" or "Arab toilet" which is a hole in the ground. Lest we forget it, the potty used by small children is called "Ma Qa'adia" or "Little Qaeda".

So, if you were forming a terrorist group, would you call yourself, "The Toilet"?

I am relinking this because as this pandemic gets worse, it is only a matter of time before "Al Qaeda" gets blamed for this "terrorist attack."

How Torture Worked to Sell the Iraq War

In part to get that smoking gun, the CIA waterboarded Khalid Sheikh Mohammed 183 times and Abu Zubaydah 83 times. But neither man told the interrogators what Bush and Cheney wanted to hear about Iraq and al-Qaeda. That came from Ibn al Sheikh al Libi, whom the Bush administration sent to Egypt for what CIA Director George Tenet called "further debriefing." As PBS Frontline reported back in November 2007, al Libi "confessed" - after being beaten repeatedly and locked in a small box for some 17 hours - that Saddam Hussein had trained al-Qaeda in chemical weapons. Al Libi later retracted his statement and the CIA later rejected it as reliable intelligence.

When they start coming for you this time it will be time to shoot back.

These are not Americans any longer.

This is not our America any longer.

This time they will be coming for your guns and they will be there to insure that if you refuse to be vaccinated or the vaccine doesn't kill you, they will.

America is finished.

Waterboarding Used to Be a Crime

In a November, 2007 article in the Washington Post Evan Wallach explains that Waterboarding Used To Be A Crime.

The United States knows quite a bit about waterboarding. The U.S. government -- whether acting alone before domestic courts, commissions and courts-martial or as part of the world community -- has not only condemned the use of water torture but has severely punished those who applied it.

Reinventing Reagan?

Reagan wove a rich tapestry of illusions - "It's morning in America!" - that did a lot to obscure the substance of his administration. Since his death in 2004, the myths have become denser. Comparing him with George W. Bush even created a certain nostalgia for the Reagan years, and by now the reality of his administration has all but vanished from sight and memory. This is unfortunate, because a clear vision of the past is vital for constructing a better future.

Security Before Politics

A disturbing epidemic of amnesia seems to be plaguing my former colleagues on Capitol Hill.

Today, I am slack-jawed to read that members claim to have not understood that the techniques on which they were briefed were to actually be employed; or that specific techniques such as "waterboarding" were never mentioned. It must be hard for most Americans of common sense to imagine how a member of Congress can forget being told about the interrogations of Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed.

Economics for Dummies

Think it is bad now? Wondering why the unemployment rate is high and seems to go higher each day, while the stock market reflects the opposite of reality? Ever consider why behemoths like Chrysler are filing bankruptcy and retail chains are increasingly closing their doors? Want to know why the banks can no way in hell sell the millions of foreclosed homes they are holding and instead just let them rot. Well children, let ole Mr Morphed shine some light on the confusing world of the global economy.

The Book That Neither Debt-Money Advocates nor Hard-Money Advocates Want You to Read

"The thesis of this book ["The Lost Science of Money"] is that a main arena of human struggle is over the monetary control of societies and that this control has been and is now exercised through obscure theories about the nature of money. If it had to be summarized in one sentence, it is that by misdefining the nature of money, special interests have often been able to assume the control of society's monetary system, and in turn, the society itself. Describing how this has been done historically will make these concepts vital, and hopefully seep aside the mystification in which money has been purposely shrouded.

A Meditation On Our Monetary System: State of Permanent Siege

The level of public ignorance on the topic of the U.S. and world monetary system is astonishing. This is part of the plan, of course, because the monetary elite control not only the financial system but also the news media, the publishing industry, and the educational system. The blueprint for control was put together over a century ago by Cecil Rhodes and his friends, including British financier Nathan Rothschild, as documented by Professor Carroll Quigley.

FLASHBACK - Live Avian Flu Virus Placed in Baxter Vaccine Materials Sent to 18 Countries

“But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau.” The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany.

The contamination incident, which is being investigated by the four European countries, came to light when the subcontractor in the Czech Republic inoculated ferrets with the product and they died. Ferrets shouldn’t die from exposure to human H3N2 flu viruses.

1976: Fear of a great plague

On Dec. 16, increasingly concerned about reports of the vaccine touching off neurological problems, especially rare Guillain-Barre syndrome, the government suspended the program, having inoculated 40 million people for a flu that never came.

Suddenly, Uncle Sam Wants to Bankroll You

Since Sept. 11, Mr. Louie's staff has fielded calls from over 400 companies -- more than four times the normal volume for a three-month period. And the calls are bringing in results. At the invitation of I.B.M., for example, In-Q-Tel executives visited the company's vaunted research labs and are now negotiating rights for the C.I.A. to use some of its technology. All told, 60 companies, mainly start-ups, are on what In-Q-Tel calls a fast track for further investigation and possible investment.

Flu Outbreak Causing Pandemic Concerns

However, mystery surrounds the US incidents because it's unclear how they caught the virus. None of the seven people were in contact with pigs, which is how people usually catch swine flu. And only a few were in contact with each other, the CDC said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

From an earlier version of this same story ...
This most recent version of swine flu was first identified in two children in Imperial and San Diego County in southern California earlier this week. Officials say the virus may have already existed for a while or may be entirely new. They added that it was discovered thanks to improved testing facilities and expanded disease surveillance; one at a Navy clinic and the other at a specialized clinic that monitors border communities.

The announcement came Thursday that investigators had turned up five new cases. The new patients include a father and his daughter in San Diego County, a middle-aged woman in Imperial County, and two 16-year old boys who are friends near San Antonio, Texas.

The two cases in Texas have left researchers particularly mystified. Though the young boy from San Diego County reported flying to Texas earlier this month to visit family, he claims to have stayed in the Dallas area – some 270 miles north of San Antonio.

The head of the World Health Organization says the swine flu outbreak in Mexico and the United States could develop into a pandemic.

Testimony: Settlers assault pregnant woman with sticks and stones, April '09

Being pregnant, I couldn’t run fast. After about one hundred meters, the settlers caught me. One of them hit me in my right arm and left leg with his stick. The other settler threw a stone at me, which hit me in the left leg. Then one of them pushed me, and I fell onto some thorns. My arm and leg hurt a lot. When I fell, the two settlers left me and ran toward the farmers and other shepherds. I remained there, crying. I was in terrible pain.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, beating a pregnant woman makes young male Israeli settlers feel "macho"?!?!?

, This is really mentally ill behavior.

And the ugly irony here is, some of these guys are probably great grand-children of Holocaust survivors.
