Members of Swedish Parliament demand security for Ship to Gaza

Foreign Minister Carl Bildt,

Swedish Parliament.

Minister Bildt:

Swedish nationals, and Swedish interests are being threatened with an act of piracy at sea which could endanger their lives, and the sovereign right of Swedish nationals and ships to pursue free and open passage on the high seas.

Sweden, always a mighty sea-going nation of men and women, which has always led the European family of nations in the pursuit of human rights and interests, ought to send an escort with this Humanitarian flotilla to ensure their safety, and protect Swedish national rights to free and open passage on the high seas.

Boycott Targets Stars From Elvis to Elton

By Nathan Guttman

“In reaction, a music industry insider confirmed that the winds could be shifting. The music executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity in light of his ongoing business ties with artists, said that in recent months he had approached more than 15 performing artists with proposals to give concerts in Israel. None had agreed. The contracts offered high levels of compensation. He called them ‘extreme, big numbers that could match any other gig.’”

Washington — It was a feather in the cap of pro-boycott activists, but for Israelis, a major setback.

With battle lines drawn across concert halls and stadiums hosting rock bands, the decision by mega-star Elvis Costello to cancel his planned concerts in Israel is being viewed as a game changer.

This money cannot be spent, but it can be invested -- and it can be invested not just in conservative federal securities but in equity, or stocks. Rather than turning this hidden gold mine over to Wall Street banks to earn a very meager interest, California could leverage its excess funds itself, turning the money into much-needed low-interest credit for its own use. How? It could do this by owning its own bank.

“Officer Safety” Puts Children at Risk

The SWAT stormtroopers who invaded the Columbia, Missouri home of Jonathan Whitworth on February 11 knew a seven-year-old child lived there. This didn’t stop them from invading the home late in the evening, when the child would be put at risk. Nor did the invaders see anything amiss in shooting at two dogs that presented a “tactical obstacle” to the raid, even though the first shot missed the target.

The Future of Palestine: Righteous Jews vs. the New Afrikaners

The story I will tell is straightforward. Contrary to the wishes of the Obama administration and most Americans – to include many American Jews – Israel is not going to allow the Palestinians to have a viable state of their own in Gaza and the West Bank. Regrettably, the two-state solution is now a fantasy. Instead, those territories will be incorporated into a "Greater Israel," which will be an apartheid state bearing a marked resemblance to white-ruled South Africa. Nevertheless, a Jewish apartheid state is not politically viable over the long term. In the end, it will become a democratic bi-national state, whose politics will be dominated by its Palestinian citizens. In other words, it will cease being a Jewish state, which will mean the end of the Zionist dream.

Nuclear Fuel Swap Deal: US Sabotages ‘Unique Opportunity’ for Peaceful Resolution with Iran

This US stonewalling of any avenue for dialogue with Iran has disturbing echoes of Washington’s deliberate sabotaging of diplomatic overtures for a peaceful resolution prior to its invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. It also exposes Obama’s vow of a new beginning in US foreign policy to be cynical lie, trotted out in front of his nation and the world with hand on heart.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder precisely what the US is doing right now to get the IAEA to reject this deal.

Because if the IAEA accepts this, there is nothing, for all intents and purposes, that the US can do to stop it.

If the US and/or Israel attack Iran for doing precisely what the UN and the IAEA wanted it to do, it will absolutely underline the utter hypocrisy and illegitimacy of US and Israeli foreign policy.

Israel impatient with international effort to thwart Iran's nuclear ambition

- Israel, which initially tolerated President Obama's effort to thwart Iranian nuclear ambitions through sanctions, has grown increasingly impatient in recent weeks with the approach and concerned that whatever is agreed to now at the U.N. Security Council will only allow Iran more time to advance its program.

A fourth round of potential sanctions unveiled by the Obama administration on Tuesday did little to allay Israel's fears that the world doesn't seem able to stop Iran from continuing to enrich uranium or develop what Israel believes is a covert nuclear weapons program.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to Israel: as reported this morning at:

"Iran intends to go ahead with a deal reached with Turkey and Brazil for a nuclear fuel swap despite a new sanctions resolution against Tehran pending at the United Nations, an Iranian parliamentarian said Saturday."

"Iran is committed to the vows that it made and wants to make them operational and will submit its letter to International Atomic Energy Agency," Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of parliament's Foreign Affairs and National Security Committee, was quoted as saying by semi-official news agency ISNA."

If the IAEA accepts this proposal, there is nothing you can do to stop it. Iran is proving that it is working very diligently to be a responsible member of the nuclear club, in terms of abiding by the book in terms of its nuclear power program.

Israel, on the the other hand, has nuclear weapons, but refuses to become a signatory to the NNPT, and allow inspections of its nuclear facilities.

The rogue nation here is not Iran; it is Israel.

What Investors are Learning From the BP Oil Spill

In the wake of our latest financial meltdown, shippers, shrimpers and tourism officials brace for the severe the economic impact resulting from an environmental crisis. Some analysts have already estimated that the spill could cost up to $3 billion and overtake the scale of Alaska’s Exxon Valdez disaster within two months. BP, the UK oil giant which owns the drilling rights for Deepwater, has seen billions of dollars wiped from its market value since the blast.

It is no wonder then that shareholders have reacted swiftly and unsympathetically. This week, BP’s investors were the latest plaintiffs to go to court over the spill, alleging the company had long put profits ahead of safety and now faces potentially billions in losses because of the ongoing disaster.

FDIC: 'Problem' Banks at 775

A total of 775 banks, or one-tenth of all U.S. banks, were on the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.'s list of "problem" institutions in the first quarter, as bad loans in the commercial real-estate market weighed on bank balance sheets.

Poor loan performance in other sectors also continued to hurt banks, with the total number of loans at least three months past due climbing for the 16th consecutive quarter, FDIC officials said in a briefing on Thursday.

Cato Institute Uses Google Maps to Show Botched SWAT Raids

"Defenders of SWAT teams and paramilitary tactics say such incidents are rare," says the Institute. "The map below aims to refute that notion" -- as do the recently reported, tragic shooting deaths of a 7-year-old girl in Detroit and this guy's dog. Just think how much more refuting the map could have done had they opened it up to crowdsourcing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Statistically, few of these raids actually result in felony convictions.

SWAT raids have precious little to do with the concept of "to protect and serve"; they have everything to do with conditioning Americans to be utterly terrified of a paramilitary police force behaving as though they are collectively on steroids.

Courts quash cuts, add to state's budget woes

"The judicial branch is now a full player in the budget because the decisions they are making have an impact on what the governor and Legislature can or cannot do," said H.D. Palmer, spokesman for the Department of Finance. "The judiciary does not have to deal with the fiscal consequence of the rulings - they say you can't do a spending reduction, but we have to come up with another $100 million in cuts somewhere else."

This year, the Republican governor is blaming the courts for some of the most controversial cuts contained in his budget proposal for the next fiscal year, which starts July 1. He says judges' mandates left him no option but to propose the wholesale elimination of programs, including welfare.

Webmaster's Commentary:

BP calls in Costner's $26m vacuum cleaners to mop up huge oil spill

Desperate times call for desperate measures. So with hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil still spewing into the Gulf of Mexico each day, and its corporate image starting to resemble the tar-covered sea creatures now washing on to Louisiana's fragile shoreline, BP has called on Kevin Costner to help stave off environmental Armageddon.

The Hollywood star has been bobbing around the Mississippi Delta helping representatives of the British oil firm and US coastguard test-drive a stainless steel device called the Ocean Therapy. In a claim which sounds as unlikely as the plot premise of Waterworld, he says it can quickly and efficiently clean oil from tainted sea water.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Basically, this is a centrifuge system and while it works in theory and is a great gimmick for publicity for BP and Costner, the scale of the solution does not come close to matching the scale of the problem. This is on the order of a "look, we're at least truing to do something" PR stunt.

Florida Braces for Oil Spill, Impact on Tourism Industry

Floridians breathed a sigh of relief on Wednesday when the Coast Guard confirmed that the dozens of tar balls found washed up near Key West this week were not from the massive BP oil spill out in the Gulf of Mexico. But it was the briefest of respites. Almost simultaneously, the Coast Guard said tendrils of the BP spill had entered the Gulf's Loop Current, which could carry it not only toward Florida's west coast but down to the Florida Keys, and perhaps on to Miami's beaches, beginning as early as next week. Said Coast Guard Rear Admiral Paul Zukunft: "It would take an act of God" to avoid that scenario.

Obama wins the right to detain people with no habeas review

Immediately following Boumediene, the Bush administration argued that the decision was inapplicable to detainees at Bagram — including even those detained outside of Afghanistan but then flown to Afghanistan to be imprisoned. Amazingly, the Bush DOJ — in a lawsuit brought by Bagram detainees seeking habeas review of their detention — contended that if they abduct someone and ship them to Guantanamo, then that person (under Boumediene) has the right to a habeas hearing, but if they instead ship them to Bagram, then the detainee has no rights of any kind. In other words, the detainee’s Constitutional rights depends on where the Government decides to drop them off to be encaged.

Shaping the Story on Iran

There have been recent reports that Iran has enabled the travel of al-Qaeda leaders to Afghanistan and Pakistan where they will be able to confront and kill American soldiers. If you think you have heard the story before, you have, in another context. In the earlier rendition it was Saddam Hussein who was hand-in-glove with al-Qaeda, helping the group in its nefarious planning to attack the United States and kill Americans. Saddam, who was in reality only a threat to his own people, was on the receiving end of a barrage of fabricated information claiming that he was secretly developing weapons of mass destruction and clandestinely dealing with the terrorists who were responsible for 9/11. Or so the story goes.

Sell in May and Run Away . . . Fast

Gold is down. Silver is down. Oil is down. The euro is down. Mortgage rates are down. Mortgage applications are down.

The main thing that is up is mortgage payment skipping. At least 10% of American households missed a monthly mortgage payment during the first three months of 2010. This is an all-time high in the post-World War II era. The rate was 9.1% in the first quarter of 2009. It rose to 9.5% in the final quarter. The trend is ominous. Americans will stop making payments on every other category of debt before they skip a mortgage payment. The fact that they are skipping mortgage payments indicates that they are in very tight straits.

The run-up in the stock market from March 2009 until last month was sharp and rewarding … for some. But there was one problem, it came with disproportional risk. You see, the stock market rose to an extent that it was pricing in perfection … a V-shaped recovery … a return to normal.

That overly optimistic view on the world can make for an ugly ending …

Because if there’s one thing we can assume after enduring a global meltdown of historical proportions, it’s this: A sharp return to normal is highly unlikely.

In reference to Noam Chomsky being barred entry to PALESTINE,…. NEVERTHELESS, WHILE one might empathize with an instinctive response to bar Chomsky – a response apparently shared by the Interior Ministry officials who initially denied him entrance to the West Bank – blocking free speech is the wrong approach. That freedom is too precious to sacrifice in circumstances such as this one.

Israel’s denial of entry to Noam Chomsky is but the latest in a long list of attempts to silence critics of Zionist oppression and violence, writes Khalid Amayreh

The people of Al Ma’sara participated in the weekly demonstration today. Last week we had a very successful cultural event in the presence of occupation soldiers. The week villagers and internationals were even allowed to reach their lands. Instead this week, they were met with a hail of tear gas, stun grenades and high velocity projectiles.

The recent accession of the Zionist entity in the OECD is further proof of the Zionization European governments. This adherence, a prelude to Israel's accession to the European Union (or what is left after the current crisis), is actually an endorsement by the EU policy of the Zionist state (aggression and war crimes against the civilian population of Gaza, creating the separation wall, confiscation of land, targeted assassinations with passports from countries members of OECD, etc..). It is also a step toward war against Israel is preparing the front of the Resistance (Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine), Europe is fully engaged in finding a conflict desired by the Zionists.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The French people are concerned about the hijacking of their government by Israeli interests.

A U.S. Census worker "had been confronted by residents who pointed a firearm at the worker and said they would not answer any questions and closed the door," said police spokeswoman Shawna Pavey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Then the police got involved and it went downhill from there, and a 67-year old woman is dead at the hands of the cops.

None of this would have happened if the @#$%ing government would mind its own business and leave the people alone!

The cops are gunning down innocent lives, like that 7-year old girl in Detroit, while the REAL criminals are being stopped by the citizens!

Will the Real Rand Paul Please Stand Up?

Rand Paul is a novice politician so he's going to make some missteps in trying to maneuver the minefields of the corrupt political system. He makes strides, gets wounded, resorts to damage control and tries to move on.

What's interesting is that Paul gets support from and is attacked from both the left, right and middle.

From the foundation funded left gatekeepers to the corporate controlled media, he takes his hits. He's called everything from neocon to neoliberal. Opposed by still walking free criminals Dick Chaney and Rudy Giuliani and yet supported by still walking free criminal enablers like Sarah Palin. Even one of the most despicable war mongers there is, Bill Kristol, gives a sort of/kind of endorsement. Kristol obviously thinks Paul can be controlled.

The Giant Banks, Federal Reserve and Treasury Have All Blackmailed America

And for the counterpoint, here is an example of a Senator who does not fall for the Fed's racket:

Dear Friend:

Thank you for contacting me. I voted against approving Mr. Bernanke, who was nevertheless confirmed by the Senate by a vote of 70-30.

While I have heard the concerns of many that the failure to confirm Mr. Bernanke would have damaged the financial markets and jeopardized our economy recovery, I do not believe that anyone, including Mr. Bernanke, is too big to be replaced. We should not hold our economy hostage to the Wall Street threat that total economic collapse is the sure result of not doing everything they want.

Thanks again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to do so again about this or any other issue that may concern you.

Whatever Germany does, the euro as we know it is dead

Angela Merkel's ban on short-selling is just a distraction from the horror to come

May 22 00:39

The Merkel government has just announced a raft of deep cuts and tax hikes, which will increase the proportion of the country’s income flowing to the banks and accelerate an economic collapse that could be much more severe than the Great Depression of the 1930s.

The transfer of almost the country’s entire tax revenues to the banks shows that the politicians in Germany are working hand in glove with banks to loot the people on an unprecedented scale under the smokescreen created by the mainstream media.

Though sold by the controlled media as “aid for Greece”, none of the money will go to the people of Greece.

WikiLeaks:Keeper of secrets, Julian Assange

Keeper of secrets
May 22, 2010
N A VERY short time, Julian Assange has become one of the most intriguing people in the world. The mysterious Australian founder of the whistleblower website WikiLeaks is as elusive as the public servants, spooks and - he assures me - cabinet ministers who regularly drop their bombshells from the anonymity of his cyberspace bolt-hole.
Far more tantalising, however, is what he says are some very, very big leaks to come - apparently within weeks. ''Right now we are sitting on history-making stuff,'' he says.

The Gathering Darkness and it's Inescapable Destiny

Here’s how it has to be and how it damn well better be. B.P. needs to be seized by The World Court or some body of influence and all of its assets commandeered. Its executives must be arrested and charged with crimes against humanity. Its stockholders must be placed last in line for financial satisfaction of any claims they may have. The intentionally criminal behavior which caused this massive environmental disaster is only one of the reasons.

Why They Hate an Arab Miss USA

Yes, that is correct - our new Miss USA Rima Fakih is Arab-American! A great day for Arab-Americans - at least it should be until a group of ultra right wing haters begin their concerted attack upon her.

Now a week later comes a great uplifting event for our community with Rima winning Miss USA - but because she is Arab, some people truly don't like it. Why? Is it not possible for an Arab-American to beat out the other 49 contestants - does she lack the genetic make up to be worthy of such an accomplishment? Or can it be because a beautiful Arab woman scares the people on the far right because it humanizes Arabs and undermines the negative image of Arabs they want to perpetuate to further their political goals?

To be quite honest, she could sit on my knee any time!

‘Nervous’ Wall Street Waits for Congress to Kill Swaps Limit

The Senate bill demands that companies like Bank of America Corp., JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. conduct derivatives trading outside of their commercial banking units that benefit from federal support.

U.S. commercial banks held derivatives with a notional value of $212.8 trillion in the fourth quarter, according to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. The five banks with the biggest holdings of derivatives -- JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citigroup Inc., and Wells Fargo & Co. -- hold $206.2 trillion, or 97 percent, of that total, the OCC said.

Pentagon Plan to Beef Up Afghan Base Near Iran May Rile Regime

The Defense Department is requesting $131 million in its fiscal year 2011 budget to upgrade Shindand Air Base so it can accommodate more commando helicopters, drone surveillance aircraft, fuel and munitions.

“Whatever U.S. intentions, the Iranian regime will see it as a threat -- as another American effort to surround Iran with U.S. military forces,” Pollack said in an interview.

“The Iranians are almost certainly going to assume that a beefed-up intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance presence is really about spying on them,”

Palestinian Economic Boycott Hits Israeli Settlers

Israeli settlers are beginning to feel the bite of an economic boycott campaign launched by the Palestinian Authority (PA) against goods produced in the illegal Israeli settlements dotting the occupied West Bank.

"This is economic terrorism," complained the Yesha Council (YC), an umbrella organisation of municipal councils of Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Call for 'artificial life' DNA ban

The success of scientists in the US in developing the first living cell to be controlled entirely by synthetic DNA has led to a call for a ban on the research.

The scientists constructed a bacterium's "genetic software" and transplanted it into a host cell.

The resulting microbe then looked and behaved like the species "dictated" by the synthetic DNA.

Experts agree that the technology could radically change the world but some are objecting to its use on saftey and ethical grounds.

Mark Glenn : The Ugly Truth Interview with Antoine Raffoul

Mark Glenn true to his style, lays out for his listeners, at the very outset, in no uncertain terms, the price in dollars that Americans have been paying for the misdeeds of their “bestest ally” Israel, for the past 60 years and more. For those who find Mark’s commentary harsh, it rings of truth and that is all that matters today.

What Americans need to know and find out, first, is where their dollars are going; second, what those dollars are doing; third, if that is what they really want their dollars to do for their country. Nothing more. Nothing less. If they are able to link their dollars in Israel to American deaths/involvement in distant lands, perhaps when the time comes to vote, they will simply tick the right voting box. It is as simple and powerful as that.

Gordon Duff: The Karzai Rebirth

“Gordon, Karzai finally quit smoking.” This was the call from Kabul last night, a town filled with journalists, intelligence analysts and the “best and brightest” of our government, military and civilian. “Gordon, the man has changed, it may be too late, but he is reaching out to the Pashtuns, and sounding like someone worthy of trust, not like the Karzai we have known for so many years.”

Authorities say evidence backs charges against Newark pastor in Linden sex assault case

At the Newark church where his congregants dress all in white, he was known as a husband, father and respected pastor for more than 20 years.

But, authorities said, Moises Cotto, the 55-year-old pastor, had been meeting for the past two years with a female congregant at a motel in Linden where the pair had sex — and forced two teenage girls to videotape them in the act.

Cotto was arrested at his apartment in East Orange on Monday night, and charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, attempted aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.

America's Broken Media And The Collapse Of World Trade Center 7

There may be a perfectly legitimate explanation to WT7. However, because the mainstream media has failed to address and investigate the issue, we are currently left with convincing evidence of thermite induced controlled demolition and an “official” explanation that defies the laws of physics. America's media is broken.
