Red Cross scam in Haiti

The Red Cross raised over $450 million on behalf of victims of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti.

They say they've spent $106 million.

A Haitian goes in search of evidence that the money was spent to help Haitians.

What about the other $344 million. The Red Cross says it has "long term" plans for that money.

Long term plans when there are people going without food, water, medical care and basic tent housing.

Isn't it about time some Red Cross people went to jail for fraud?

Two groups we know and have faith in:

Will The U.K. Be The Next European Nation To Experience A Massive Debt Crisis?

As we wrote about yesterday, the sad truth is that the governments of the world are rapidly running out of money and are drowning in debt. It is a gigantic mess, and the term "sovereign debt crisis" is going to pop up in the news very regularly from now on.

When it does all start coming apart and the dominoes do start falling, it is going to be a complete and total nightmare. Paper currencies around the globe will lose value at breathtaking speeds as central banks flood economies with cash in an attempt to stop the madness.

But more debt and more paper never solves anything. All it does is make the long-term problems even worse.

When the tipping point comes, things are going to move fast. Let's just hope that we all have a good bit more time to prepare before that happens.

Israel’s Intimidation Tactics Won’t Stop Us: First Ship Sets Sail for Gaza!

By Huwaida Arraf

London – 14 May 2010 – At 22:45 local time tonight, the MV Rachel Corrie, a 1200-ton cargo ship, part of the eight-vessel Freedom Flotilla, set sail from Ireland on its way to the Mediterranean Sea. Three, ships from Turkey and Greece will join her, then sail to Gaza.

This past week reports from Israel have indicated that the Israeli authorities will not allow the Freedom Flotilla to reach Gaza with its cargo of much-needed reconstruction material, medical equipment, and school supplies. According to Israeli news sources, clear orders have been issued to prevent the ships from reaching Gaza, even if this necessitates military violence.

The Uptick Rule & Fat Finger Idiocy

There’s been no shortage of ridiculous explanations behind last Fridays stock market plunge which took the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1,000 points. Perhaps the most preposterous of them all is the so called “Fat Finger” theory which suggests that some “lone trader” accidentally shorted S&P E-Mini futures contracts to the tune of $1 billion. Gold could touch $5,000 before this is all over...

Gold is once again above $1,200 and making new highs. And yet, Doug Casey thinks we’re just getting started, estimating gold could touch $5,000 before this is all over. A titillating thought, to be sure, but… how likely is that?

Gold’s latest rise stems from mounting fear that the Greek bailout will be followed by other euro-area countries queued for a me-too handout. In other words, gold is serving its historical role as a safe haven, a store of value, and an alternate form of money when governments recklessly plunge themselves heavily into debt and abuse their currency.....

Stunning, Spectacular and Scary photos from the Gulf

In the three weeks since the April 20th explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, and the start of the subsequent massive (and ongoing) oil leak, many attempts have been made to contain and control the scale of the environmental disaster. Oil dispersants are being sprayed, containment booms erected, protective barriers built, controlled burns undertaken, and devices are being lowered to the sea floor to try and cap the leaks, with little success to date. While tracking the volume of the continued flow of oil is difficult, an estimated 5,000 barrels of oil (possibly much more) continues to pour into the gulf every day.

Idiocracy Rising

Imagine, if you can stand to, a world in which the entire population has succumbed to Hannitization, and you'll capture the dystopian future depicted in the 2006 cult film Idiocracy.

The fictional future America (written and pronounced "Uhhmerica") of the year 2505 is inhabited by torpid, barely ambulatory imbeciles, in large measure because of a quasi-Malthusian population imbalance: Smart people, according to the film, reproduce arithmetically, but dimwits multiply like tribbles. The result is what Huxley's Brave New World would have been had it been populated exclusively by Epsilon-minus Semi-Morons.

Israel's Master of Deception - The Career of Shimon Peres

The international community has long been enamored by current Israeli President and former Prime Minister, Shimon Peres. Regarded as a voice of reason and a dove among hawks, he adroitly assuages fears and reassures critics with soothing, yet empty words advocating dialogue and the creation of a Palestinian state. By duping the world into believing significant differences exist between his “left wing” views and those of Israel’s far right, he has proven himself a master at deception.

Lone money manager may have sparked (stock market) plunge

A big mystery seller of futures contracts during the market meltdown last week was not a hedge fund or a high frequency trader as many have suspected, but money manger Waddell & Reed Financial Inc, according to a document obtained by Reuters.

Waddell sold on May 6 a large order of e-mini contracts during a 20-minute span in which U.S. equity markets plunged, briefly wiping out nearly $1 trillion in market capital, the internal document from CME Group Inc said.

Regulators and exchange officials quickly focused on Waddell's sale of 75,000 e-mini contracts, which the document said "superficially appeared to be anomalous activity."

Death toll rises as anti-government protests escalate in Thailand

At least eight people were killed and up to 121 injured during a day of violence between anti-government protesters and troops which drew months of stand-off in Bangkok closer to an endgame.

Dozens more were injured today, seven fatally, according to reports from hospitals, as troops used teargas and fired live and rubber bullets in an attempt to bring to an end two months of protests in which more than 30 people have died and more than 1,400 people have been injured.

Afghanistan has, whether by convenience, design or some combination of the two, been transformed into a vast training ground for the consolidation of a fifty-nation military structure that has already been extended into Central Asia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, the Horn of Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Middle East.

Joe Lieberman's Fascist agenda to strip Americans of their Constitutional Rights

Senator Joe Lieberman is sponsoring a Bill with Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown called the "Terrorist Expatriation Act" that would strip terrorist suspects on their citizenship.

Joe Lieberman also sponsored another Bill in the Senate with John McCain called the "Enemy Belligerent, Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act.

McCain explained it stating "we still don't have a clear mechanism, legal structure, and implementing policy for dealing with terrorists who we capture in the (alleged) act of trying to bring about attacks on the United States and our national security interests at home and abroad."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Should either or both of these bills be passed, the Constitution and Bill of Rights will be null and void as reference points for what used to be our Constitutional Republic.

This legislation will generate an absolute abandonment of the rule of law, in a system which doesn't try people in a true court by a jury of their peers, and allows for indefinite detention without trial.

And when Lieberman makes his reference to "war criminals", he is deliberately avoiding the following reality.

The US has not declared war on Iraq, Afghanistan, or Pakistan. Therefore, there can be no "war criminals" without the US having formally declared war.

Fighting For Our Freedom?

The assumption is that if the U.S. had not fought any of its past or current wars or had not maintained its military presence around the world, that we would have lost some or all of our freedom. This fundamental assumption is never questioned (or I suspect even considered) by supporters of U.S. foreign policy, despite the fact that it completely disintegrates under even superficial examination.

Israel seeks to silence dissent

Several examples now point to an uncomfortable reality for the self-proclaimed "only democracy in the Middle East": practices that have long been routine in the military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza are being used in Israel to suppress dissent and limit civil liberties. The green line is increasingly blurry.

So why is this happening now? First, it is the latest manifestation of a deteriorating atmosphere in Israel, with political dissent and human rights groups under attack. Depressingly, there is considerable support among Jewish Israelis for this kind of crackdown: one poll found that 57.6% of respondents "agreed that human rights organisations that expose immoral conduct by Israel should not be allowed to operate freely".

US Shrugs Off Iran Diplomacy Efforts

US officials today mocked the diplomacy effort by Turkey and Brazil to come to some sort of accommodation on Iran’s civilian nuclear program, with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reportedly calling Turkey’s Foreign Minister to inform him the effort isn’t “serious.”

State Department spokesman PJ Crowley says Clinton informed FM Davutoglu that the effort was “an attempt to stop Security Council action without actually taking steps to address international concerns.”

Senate panel approves money for Afghan, Iraq wars

A Senate committee on Thursday approved another $33.5 billion for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq this year, although some members said they did so reluctantly.

The action by the Senate Appropriations Committee is the first step toward congressional approval of the extra war spending that President Barack Obama requested in February to support his surge of 30,000 more U.S. troops into Afghanistan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Look at what happened with Obamacare, where we were promised one price, but the CBO has stated that the actual costs are going to be far higher than we were promised.

The same is true for this war budget; the price keeps going up, with no end in sight.

McChrystal Terms Afghan War ‘A Draw’

Some six months into the “McChrystal Plan” the US had dramatically increased its military presence in Afghanistan and President Obama has claimed they are making “undeniable” progress. To Gen. McChrystal though, the war is still “a draw.”

And even McChrystal’s claims of a draw are questionable, based on his insistence that the Taliban’s momentum has been stopped. This is not well supported by recent data, however, which has shown a rising death toll, rising numbers of Taliban IED attacks, and ever increasing numbers of civilian killings.

U.S. intelligence turns up surveillance ears on Turkey and Brazil

WMR has learned from U.S. and Middle East intelligence sources that the Obama administration has authorized an increase in signals intelligence (SIGINT) gathering directed against Turkey and Brazil. Both nations are acting as intermediaries with Iran to hammer out a deal to swap uranium for Iran's low-enriched uranium used for its nuclear power generating needs for nuclear fuel from abroad.

As the UN Security Council debates applying new sanctions on Iran, Turkey and Brazil, which are opposed to new sanctions, are quietly negotiating between Tehran and Russia and China to ensure that there will be at least one permanent member Security Council veto of a sanctions resolution.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that the US is doing everything humanly possible to torpedo any possibility that there might be some kind of agreement both Iran and the West might find mutually acceptable.

Russia Ready To Assist To Resolve Tibet Issue

Addressing the Federation Council, Russia's upper house of parliament, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said if all the parties to the conflict made sincere efforts to separate purely "pastoral" contacts from politics, this could bring about a solution to the problem, and Moscow was ready to assist in this regard.

China, which has always claimed Tibet as its territory, condemns world leaders who meet with the Dalai Lama as it accuses the Tibetan monk of heading a separatist movement seeking independence for Tibet.

Obama, Medvedev discuss "progress" on Iran sanctions

Russia, like China, has close trade ties with Iran and has been reluctant to support new punitive measures against Tehran. Moscow eventually gave in but is supporting Beijing's push to dilute the proposed sanctions outlined in a U.S. draft.

Western diplomats have varying estimates on when the six powers will have a draft resolution ready to present to the 15-nation Security Council for debate, with some suggesting it could happen this month and others next month. But all said they hoped to see a vote on a resolution by June.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This issue will resolve itself in one of two ways; either the final UN sanctions will be so diluted that they are virtually meaningless, or that there will be no UN sanctions whatsoever.

When this issue is resolved, one way or the other, is the moment when we will really hear the ratcheting up of propaganda telling us that we must attack Iran militarily to prevent it from getting the nuclear weapons technology it is not pursuing.

New Al Qaeda In Iraq Chief Vows 'Dark Days Soaked With Blood'

Al-Qaida in Iraq's new leader warned Shiites on Friday that "dark days soaked with blood" lie ahead and that a new campaign of attacks was under way.

Within hours of the warning, a car bomb exploded outside a Shiite mosque south of Baghdad just after Friday prayers, wounding 20 worshippers as they were leaving, according to local police.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder if this is being manipulated as an excuse for American forces to stay in Iraq longer than the SOFA agreement with the Iraqi government originally stipulated.

US faces same problems as Greece, says Bank of England

Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England, fears that America shares many of the same fiscal problems currently haunting Europe.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It does; a private central bank issuing the public currency at interest. The very nature of such a system guarantees that the debt to the private bank will always exceed the available money supply, enslaving the people and their government to that bank. By any reasonable definition, a private central bank issuing the public currency at interest is a pyramid scheme, doomed to collapse when it becomes impossible to draw more borrowers into the bottom to prop up the top, which is exactly what is happening right now.

Thai Protests: Violence Erupts In Bangkok

Late Thursday, the army moved to seal off the Red Shirt encampment in an upscale commercial district of the capital. Some 10,000 protesters, women and children among them, have crammed into the area.

The Red Shirts see Abhisit's government as serving an elite insensitive to the plight of most Thais. The protesters include many supporters of former prime minister Thaksin whose allies won elections in 2007 after his ouster. Two subsequent pro-Thaksin governments were disbanded by court rulings before Abhisit was elected by Parliament.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Making martyrs out of its own citizens will prove very counterproductive for the Thai military and government, both domestically, and internationally.

US warns of 'last chance' on sanctions as Iran hosts summit

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva heads to Tehran on Sunday for a non-aligned summit the United States and Russia have said might offer Iran's last chance to avoid tough new UN sanctions.

"I think we would view the Lula visit as perhaps the last big shot at engagement," a senior State Department official told reporters on condition of anonymity on Thursday.

That was echoed on Friday by Russian President Dimitry Medvedev, who said "it may be the last chance before the adoption of appropriate decisions within the framework of the Security Council.

Webmaster's Commentary:

China will veto any sanctions at the UN Security Council; it's a given. Or, if by some miracle, another round of sanctions are passed, they will be so watered down as to have absolutely no meaning whatsoever.

So what then?!? What will follow will be a series of unilateral, bi-lateral sanctions which will almost inevitably lead to war.

Taliban recruiting sees surge after Times Square bomb failure, says leader

"We've got more publicity from this one failed bombing in New York than from more than 100 bombings in Afghanistan," a high-ranking militant in the Afghan Taliban told Newsweek

Webmaster's Commentary:

Notice that this guy allegedly making such a statement is never sourced, which leads me to believe that this was simply a fabrication, engineered to strike more fear and terror in the hearts of the Americans who read it.

First of all, the "Bandini Bomber" was a total failure, and failures do not inspire membership surges.

We've been in Afghanistan for 9 years now, and one primary objective (for private profit) has still not yet been accomplished.

That outcome was the "pacification" of the Afghan people to such a degree to allow pipelines to be installed with which to control Eurasian oil.

The Afghan people know that their country is cursed by geography, in terms of being an ideal place to install such pipelines.

The Afghan people do not hate us "because we are free";they hate Americans because we are killing their wives, mothers, brothers, sisters, and friends in the pursuit of this outcome, and want their country back, out from under the yoke of US/NATO occupation.

If American and NATO leadership were really smart, they would declare victory, go home, and negotiate with whatever government was left standing for the pipeline rights.

Russia and China are deal-making at an unprecedented pace, to insure the energy sufficiency they need, without firing a shot.

Gulf oil gusher ‘ten times worse’ than previously estimated, experts say

So this is why BP's release of video showing the Gulf oil gusher was mysteriously delayed.

According to a scientific analysis of footage from the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, National Public Radio is claiming the growing ecological disaster is actually ten times worse than previously estimated, saying the rushing torrent of oil pouring into the ocean is equivalent to one Exxon-Valdez spill every four days.

That's more than 70,000 barrels a day -- when the U.S. Coast Guard had placed the figure at a seemingly modest 5,000 barrels a day.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a disaster, and every single company which chose not to use the standards and practices necessary to prevent something like this from happening should be held completely responsible, and penalized.

Israeli settler ‘kills Palestinian’ youth

A Palestinian teenager has been shot dead by an Israeli settler in the occupied West Bank, witnesses and activists said.

The settler opened fire after Palestinian youths threw stones at his car travelling along Route 60 in Mazra’a al-Sharqia, east of Ramallah.

The Popular Struggle Co-ordination Committee activist group said that Aysar al-Zaben was not involved in the stone throwing, but was tending his family’s land when he was shot.

Buying Brand Obama

Barack Obama is a brand. And the Obama brand is designed to make us feel good about our government while corporate overlords loot the Treasury, our elected officials continue to have their palms greased by armies of corporate lobbyists, our corporate media diverts us with gossip and trivia and our imperial wars expand in the Middle East. Brand Obama is about being happy consumers. We are entertained. We feel hopeful. We like our president. We believe he is like us. But like all branded products spun out from the manipulative world of corporate advertising, we are being duped into doing and supporting a lot of things that are not in our interest.

The Bailout of Big American Banks Has Cost Trillions More Than We've Been Told

The big banks - such as JP Morgan - also benefit from foreign bailouts, such as the European bailout, as they are some of the largest creditors of the bailed out countries, and the bailouts allow them to get paid in full, instead of having to write down their foreign losses.

These are just a few of the secret bailouts programs the government is giving to the giant banks. There are many other bailout programs as well. If these bailouts and subsidies are added up, they amount to many tens - or perhaps even hundreds - of trillions of dollars.

And then there is the cost of debasing the currency in order to print money to fund these bailouts. The cost to the American citizen in less valuable dollars will be truly staggering.

Obama Seeks $205 Million for Israel Iron Dome System

The budgetary difficulty that has been delaying Israel's armament with the anti-missile defense system Iron Dome has apparently been resolved. The Pentagon has issued a message to Israel's Defense Ministry that U.S. President Barack Obama has approved the transfer of special assistance totaling $205 million for the purchase of more than ten Iron Dome batteries.

The Iron Dome missile defense system aced a test run in January, and event that convinced senior defense officials that the defense system was on its way to becoming operational and that it will be able to effectively protect against short-range missiles, such as Katyushas and Qassams, which often hit Israeli settlements.
