Strategies for Revolutionaries: Discriminating Among Values –

It seems to me as though a great many people claim that their time is valuable, but their behaviour speaks quite differently of their intentions. Rather than investing their time productively, for example, they’ll squander it away with long hours in front of the TV, playing video games, or engaged in some other similarly frivolous activity. Video games are perhaps the champions of this category – they’re a wonderful way of entering a fantasy world where you can feel like you’ve done something without actually doing anything. From the vantage of society’s controllers, having everyone locked into various masturbatory addictions is a wonderful means of insuring the perpetuation of established lines of power and privilege.

US Regulators Close Seven Illinois Banks

U.S. regulators closed seven Illinois banks on Friday, including a Chicago bank closely tied to the Democratic candidate running for President Barack Obama's former Senate seat.

Friday's failures bring to 57 the number of U.S. banks that have failed already this year, after 140 failures in 2009. The FDIC said the total cost to its deposit insurance fund from Friday's failures topped $970 million.

Top US senator presses Clinton on Iran sanctions

A day after calling Iran a "festering sore," the top US senator on Friday urged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to work with lawmakers to ensure speedy approval of new sanctions against Tehran.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also pressed Clinton to patch up strained ties with Israel and help promote direct negotiations between the crucial Middle East ally and the Palestinians.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to Senator Harry Reid:

1. These US sanctions against Iran are a prelude to war.

2. Israel doesn't want peace; it only wants territory by any means necessary.

Syria providing 'wider array' of missiles to Hezbollah: US

Syria is providing a "wider array" of missiles to Hezbollah, a US diplomat said Friday, stopping short of accusing Damascus of supplying Scuds to the Lebanese Shiite militia.

"We are concerned with the broadening nature of cooperation between Syria and Hezbollah," said a senior State Department official, who asked not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, Mr. "That Greek, Anonymous": show the American people the proof!

If you actually had the proof, rather than regurgitating the accusations against Syria straight from Tel Aviv, you would be shrieking it from the rooftops, and would have no problem letting the American people who precisely who you are.

But you don't, so you can't.

U.S. Nuclear Option on Iran Linked to Israeli Attack Threat

The Barack Obama administration's declaration in its Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) that it is reserving the right to use nuclear weapons against Iran represents a new element in a strategy of persuading Tehran that an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites is a serious possibility if Iran does not bow to the demand that it cease uranium enrichment.

Although administration officials have carefully refrained from drawing any direct connection between the new nuclear option and the Israeli threat, the NPR broadens the range of contingencies in which nuclear weapons might play a role so as to include an Iranian military response to an Israeli attack.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is yet another piece of propaganda, engineered to "groom" the American public into accepting an Israeli attack on Iran for absolutely no damned good reason, into which the US will be dragged militarily.

Please understand: Iran hasn't started a war in about 200 years. And whatever one things of the Iranian leadership, they are not so stupid as to begin to even contemplate an attack on Israel, because they understand full well what the ramifications of such a scenario would be.

Unfortunately, the only question, now, may not be if Israel will attack Iran, but when.

I would not bet against the timing here being immediately after it becomes clear that there will no new round of sanctions at the UN.

US may soon create up to half million jobs a month: Biden

Vice President Joe Biden on Friday offered a bullish prediction that the US economy could soon create 250,000 to half a million jobs per month, as the recovery picks up speed.

In February, the economy lost 14,000 posts according to revised figures.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Vice-President Biden is increasingly reminding me of the elderly, somewhat cantankerous, uncle no one really wants to invite to the Thanksgiving dinner, but who will show up anyway, and say the most outrageous things he can think of.

I don't know what kind of jobs he is thinking about in making this absolutely fact-unsupported statement, but one has to wonder, since almost all the good jobs have been offshored, if these jobs are those where the employee says frequently, "do you want fries with that"?!?

Economic Ignorance and Liberal Hypocrisy at Dailykos.com

Please don't lump conservatives with libertarians, especially since there ain't a dime's worth of difference between liberals and conservatives. Both of you are statist to the core, and both of you are lovers of big government, big spending, big debt, and big inflation. And both of you are taking our nation down the road to serfdom, bankruptcy, and moral debauchery.

The only solution to the woes that you statists, both liberals and conservatives, have foisted onto our nation lies with libertarianism. Our American ancestors discovered the truth, and lots of Americans are now re-discovering it, which is precisely why you statists are so terrified.

Divisive Ariz. Immigration Bill Signed Into Law

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed into law the nation's toughest legislation against illegal immigration Friday, a sweeping measure that supporters said would take handcuffs off police but which President Obama said could violate people's civil rights.

Brewer, who faces a tough election battle and growing anger in the state over illegal immigrants, said the law "protects every Arizona citizen," and said the state must act because the federal government has failed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a reasonable law, and doesn't effect anyone living or working in the state of Arizona legally.

The reason the federal government has been unable to pass an immigration bill that makes sense is that congressional representatives have been made to understand that large companies love the cheap labor illegal immigration brings.

Unfortunately, these same large corporations don't give a flying Frisbee about of the impact on state budgets due to unfunded mandates, because "it's not their problem".

What we're seeing in Arizona may be a harbinger of the kind of legislation which may be passed in many other states.

CLIMATEGATE - Mann 2008 a Victim of Sudden Oak Death?

Notwithstanding the considered opinion of Baillie and Wilson that oaks are “virtually useless as a temperature proxy” and “dangerous” to use in a temperature reconstruction, no fewer than 119 oak chronologies were used in Mann et al 2008.

Among Mann’s oak chronologies were three Baillie chronologies: brit008 – Lockwood; brit042 – Shanes Castle, Northern Ireland; brit044 – Castle Coole, Northern Ireland.

Far be it from me to disagree with the specialist view of Wilson and Baillie that these oak chronologies are “virtually useless” as a temperature or “dangerous” to use in a temperature reconstruction.

Nick Clegg's rise could lock Murdoch and the media elite out of UK politics

I doubt if Rupert Murdoch watched the election debate last week. His focus is very firmly on the United States, especially his resurgent Wall Street Journal. But if he did, there would have been one man totally unknown to him. One man utterly beyond the tentacles of any of his family, his editors or his advisers. That man is Nick Clegg.

Make no mistake, if the Liberal Democrats actually won the election – or held the balance of power – it would be the first time in decades that Murdoch was locked out of British politics. In so many ways, a vote for the Lib Dems is a vote against Murdoch and the media elite.

Colleague Says Anthrax Numbers Add Up to Unsolved Case

A microbiologist who supervised the work of accused anthrax killer Bruce E. Ivins explained to a National Academy of Sciences panel Thursday why the arithmetic of growing anthrax didn't add up to Ivins' mailing deadly spores in fall 2001.

"Impossible," said Dr. Henry S. Heine of a scenario in which Ivins, another civilian microbiologist working for the Army, allegedly prepared the anthrax spores at an Army lab at Fort Detrick. Heine told the 16-member panel that Ivins would have had to grow as many as 10 trillion spores, an astronomical amount that couldn't have gone unnoticed by his colleagues.

Notice how Howard Gordon takes the position that the "Science is settled" and there is no need to re-examine it? We have heard that before!

"To affirm that the Sun ... is at the centre of the universe and only rotates on its axis without going from east to west, is a very dangerous attitude and one calculated not only to arouse all Scholastic philosophers and theologians but also to injure our holy faith by contradicting the Scriptures"--; Cardinal Bellarmino, 17th Century Church Master Collegio Romano, who imprisoned and tortured Galileo for his astronomical works.

"To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." -- Cardinal Bellarmino 1615, during the trial of Galileo.

"The doctrine that the earth is neither the center of the universe nor immovable, but moves even with a daily rotation, is absurd, and both philosophically and theologically false, and at the least an error of faith." -- Catholic Church's decision against Galileo Galilei

One of the questions often asked when the subject of CEO pay comes up is, "What could a person such as William McGuire or Lee Raymond (the former CEOs of UnitedHealth and ExxonMobil, respectively) possibly do to justify a $1.7 billion paycheck or a $400 million retirement bonus?"

Democrats for the people?

Let me start off by saying that I don't believe that there is a difference between the republican or democratic party. Both party's consist of actors that can only see as far as the next pay check. They know what they are doing, but have an overwhelming greed. They can be best compared to a rat. The rat might be able to figure out that a peace of cheese is siting on a trap, but it looks so good. Politicians, knowing that they are poisoning the society they live and raise their children in, can only see that peace of cheese. The thirst for more money is self defeating. All politicians are nothing more then well trained zombies. Zombies don't think for them selves, don't know anything about their next speech. All they know is with a good job comes a pat on the head and food in their bowel.

The MoD, the arms deal and a 30-year-old bill for £400m

The problem came in 1979 when, with just 185 tanks delivered to Tehran, the Iranian Revolution deposed Shah Pahlavi and installed an Islamic Republic with a somewhat less warm stance towards the United Kingdom. The massive deal, fully sanctioned by the Ministry of Defence, foundered and the Iranians, perhaps understandably, asked for their money back.

London refused and - after flogging a number of its suddenly surplus tanks to Iran’s most bitter enemy in the shape of Saddam Hussein’s Iraq - the British government has for 30 years fought a little-noticed but bitter legal wrangle in an obscure international trade court based in the Netherlands to hold onto what remains of the Shah’s money.

Genetically Modified Soy Linked to Sterility, Infant Mortality in Hamsters

“This study was just routine,” said Russian biologist Alexey V. Surov, in what could end up as the understatement of this century. What he discovered may uproot a multi-billion dollar industry.

After feeding hamsters for two years over three generations, those on the GM diet, and especially the group on the maximum GM soy diet, showed devastating results. By the third generation, most GM soy-fed hamsters lost the ability to have babies. They also suffered slower growth, and a high mortality rate among the pups.

FIRA - The 800 LB Gorilla In The Financial 'Reform' Bill

The lackluster Republican opposition to Senator Dodd's Financial Reform bill is focused on whether or not the Democratic proposal allows for or prohibits additional bailouts. A secondary hot topic is the supposed derivative limitations. Frankly, these are both red herrings. They serve to mask an even larger danger that no one is talking about: a huge new government agency that will control all financial institutions in the US--and not just the "too big to fail" ones. It's called the Financial Institutions Regulatory Administration (FIRA), and its authority absorbs and supersedes every other banking, thrift and stock market regulatory agency including the SEC--though it technically doesn't actually eliminate any agency (as we might expect of government).

Government improvement in 2 easy steps

Are you fed up by the daily reports of government abuses? Here's a possible solution: let's add to the laws that from now only dead people may hold public office. (No living representants of any kind allowed, either.)

It's a bottom line initiative. Dead politicians don't take campaign bribes, they don't send your kids to wars, they don't cost much in taxes nor they enact laws like the Patriot Act. A 400% improvement on the main issues over any living representative. Try this with the Political Reform Act! If a politico is unable to quit his cushy DC post, he might try to outsmart the citizenry by shooting himself dead. If he shoots as well as he governed, he will miss anyway. If he shoots better - well, I guess we'll have to put up with him not working for us again.

Boobquake bid to prove cleric wrong

A US student has attracted 30 000 supporters for a Facebook campaign urging women to show as much cleavage as possible to prove that breasts do not cause earthquakes.

Jen McCreight's Boobquake day on Monday, April 26 is in protest against an Iranian cleric who claimed that women who do not cover up were to blame for predictions that Tehran would be hit by a quake.

They're laughing at Obama overseas

Until he reached the White House, Barack Obama repeatedly insisted that the United States apply more pressure on Sudan so as to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe in Darfur and elsewhere.

Yet, as president, Mr. Obama and his aides have caved, leaving Sudan gloating at American weakness. Western monitors, Sudanese journalists and local civil society groups have all found this month's Sudanese elections to be deeply flawed - yet Mr. Obama's special envoy for Sudan, Maj. Gen. Scott Gration, pre-emptively defended the elections, saying they would be "as free and as fair as possible." The White House showed only a hint more backbone with a hurried reference this week to "an essential step" with "serious irregularities."

Report from Bil’in: ’soldiers showed no discrimination with their firing, shooting directly at the faces of the protestors’

At 1:30pm the crowd of demonstrators processed to the site of the Wall, carrying posters and flags, and were immediately met by soldiers, sound grenades, and smoke bombs. Protestors encountered a line of soldiers who were hiding; these soldiers fired a wall of gas at the protestors in order to force the demonstrators into a second line of soldiers who were waiting to make arrests. Demonstrators reported that soldiers showed no discrimination with their firing, shooting directly at the faces of the protestors, and no discrimination in their arrests, trying to arrest even journalists.

The words that make you free

One of the fraud cycles to end soon is fiat money, which causes a collapse of the power structure and its enforcement gang every time. It imploded the Roman Empire (in spite of all their weapons and ruses), it imploded the Soviet Empire (ditto), and it will implode the current empire too (ditto). When this happens and a new productive economy emerges based on interest-free citizen-issued money (if people are smart), all you need to do is to keep anyone from imposing a new fraud cycle on you. You can handle this much. The main revolution took place half an hour ago already. It was in your head.

Thresholds of Wireless -

A great deal of ambiguity, conflict and promise surrounds humanity’s use of energy. Wars are fought over access to sources of energy, freedoms are repressed in order to maintain control over access to energy, and the planet is poisoned while we refuse to renegotiate our addiction to particular forms of energy. Even still, demand for energy is going to steadily increase and anyone who thinks humanity’s energy consumption is going to face a bottleneck – e.g., peak oil doomsayers – are victims of a lack of imagination. In spite of their naive alarmism, we don’t suffer from a lack of access to energy or have any difficulty in finding clean, non-polluting sources of energy. The gap isn’t in our understanding or in physical constraints; rather, it lies in our political and social momentum.

Minimum Wage Cruelty

One of the more insidious effects of minimum wages is that it lowers the cost of racial discrimination; in fact, minimum wage laws are one of the most effective tools in the arsenals of racists everywhere, as demonstrated by just a couple of examples. During South Africa's apartheid era, its racist unions were the major supporters of minimum wages for blacks.

In Oklahoma, the AP Gets It Wrong One More Time

Charles Key is a one-man truth squad.

The Oklahoma state legislator – who has been a tireless investigator of the Oklahoma City bombing and champion of the Tenth Amendment – was recently misrepresented in an Associated Press report on Tea Parties, militias, and Sooner State lawmakers.

And he’s speaking up about it – loudly, but civilly.

Truth Does Not Fear Investigation

“Auschwitz” has come to symbolize the greatest crime in human history. The significance of the alleged murder of a million or more persons, most of them Jewish, by gassing at the German concentration camp of that name has elicited endless discussion among philosophers, theologians, and litterateurs as well as jurists and historians, and evoked numberless platitudes from journalists and politicians. The focus of this article, however, is on the following questions:

1. Should the alleged monstrous crime be subject to careful scrutiny by means of thorough forensic analysis?
2. What forensic examinations of the purported crimes scenes at Auschwitz have been conducted thus far, and with what findings? How are we to assess the results?

The IPCC's Brand New Global Warming Screw-up: Happy Earth Day?

Today is the 40th annual Earth Day, when the Blue Bird of climate change look at every country to see if they have been environmentally good or bad. She rewards the good countries with favors and punishes the bad by pooping on their bad gas-guzzling methods of transportation.
Bangladesh, must have been a good country, because a new study has proven the UN's climate change body, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is wrong again, and despite the IPCC prediction, Bangladesh is not about find itself under the rising ocean anytime soon.

CLIMATEGATE - Dial “M” for mangled – Wikipedia and Environment Canada caught with temperature data errors.

As I pointed out last Saturday there’s a common reporting flaw in world meteorological stations that use the METAR weather data format to report their hourly temperatures. Just one bad report in a cold location in the Arctic or Antarctic is enough to throw off the whole month’s worth of data when averaged. And it is monthly data that is used for climate. The all time high temperature error identified below has found it’s way into Wikipedia as “factual” when it is clearly wrong.

Hockey Sticks and “Climategate”: a Death of Scientific Integrity

The presentation will be in two parts: the first will discuss the theory that human emission of CO2 is causing dangerous global warming or climate change and that drastic measures of “carbon control” are needed. That discussion will be prefaced by a showing of a condensed version of the documentary “Not Evil, Just Wrong”, followed by a summation of the available data that shows that the theory is false. The evolution of two fraudulently concocted “hockey sticks” is revealed: one for the average temperature of the earth’s atmosphere, and the other for the atmospheric CO2 concentration. They are discussed in the context of the recent disclosures of the e-mail correspondence among the various global warming advocates: the so-called “climategate” scandal.

California Warming? The Actual Temp Data Indicates No Statistically Significant Warming For 80 Years

The craziness that possesses California includes the fear of global warming and climate change. Fortunately for California citizens, the actual, real-world California temperature data is a concrete rebuttal to the special interests promoting green craziness. Since California isn't burning up, there is no need to sacrifice its economic well-being on the altar of CO2-less utopia.

Global warming: Examiner exclusive interview with Richard Tol: IPCC was 'captured'

Richard Tol writes of the IPCC being captured by political activists and how that colored the IPCC report AR4 in 2007. He also characterises the Oxburgh report on Climategate as 'harsh criticism', saying the report faulted their performance on their mission critical duties. As Professor Tol participated in the IPCC process since 1995, his criticism of the IPCC's internal processes and procedures should be take seriously.

A History of Labor Unions from Colonial Times to 2009

Labor unions have been defined as "private combinations of workingmen" that try to increase wages and improve working conditions for members. But how? What means do labor unions use? As Henry George suggests, trade unionists are hardly known for their kindness to strangers and genteel ways.

Are Interest Rate Derivatives a Ticking Time Bomb?

What is not so obvious is the extent to which the U.S. economy and financial markets are betting on the continuation of unusually low short-term interest rates and a steep yield curve. This doesn't necessarily resolve into immediate risks, but it could profoundly affect the path that the economy and financial markets take during the next few years, by making the unwinding of debt much more abrupt.

In response to very low short-term interest rates, many U.S. corporations have swapped their long-term (fixed interest rate) debt into short-term (floating interest rate) debt, to the extent that an increase in short-term rates could substantially raise default risks.

It was an early morning, farmers relieved to have harvested the 6 dunam (1 dunam is roughly 1000 square metres) field of lentils planted 5 months ago in Al Faraheen borderlands. The village, east of Khan Younis, includes land cut off to farmers by the Israeli-imposed “buffer zone”. That technically 300 metre no-go zone stretching south to north along Gaza’s border with Israel actually extends far beyond the few hundred metres, up to 2 km in some areas where Palestinian civilians have been shot, injured or killed, by Israeli soldiers while on their land.

Layoff Notices Sent to Thousands of US Teachers

Hundreds of thousands of public school teachers across the United States are facing possible layoffs this coming academic year.

Pink slips were sent out to 22,000 teachers in California, 17,000 in Illinois, and 15,000 in New York. The jobs of 8,000 school employees in Michigan, 6,000 in New Jersey, and 5,000 in Oklahoma may also be axed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US lays off thousands of teachers, but this country still shells out 3 billion dollars a year to Israel?
