The Smooth Criminal Transition from Bush/Cheney to Obama

To sober, clear-eyed observers of history and political deception, the ascension of Barack Obama held the promise for unprecedented new dangers: a revitalized New World Order, led by the Anglo-American empire’s neoliberal criminal faction and an iconic, deceptive new facilitator; and a continuation of Bush/Cheney criminality and war, under smarter and much more effective management.

Now, just months into their tenure, the Barack Obama administration has more than fulfilled the promises he made to his elite constituency, deepening the mass destruction of Bush/Cheney, while charming its victims all over the world into enjoying their own demise.

Toxic Asset Plan Will Leave The Same Amount Of Toxic Assets In The System, But With the Taxpayers Now Liable For Most Of The Losses

The government is guaranteeing 85% of the value of the toxic assets.

So the taxpayers (who anteed up for the bailout funds which the banks are now using to purchase the assets) will again pick up the tab when the assets turn out to not be worth as much as the banks are paying for them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

At the end of the day, in the way this deal has been structured, it is We the People, We the Taxpayers who are winding up getting screwed twice.

US Envoy Writes of Israeli Threats

In the wake of the accusation by Chas Freeman that his nomination to lead the National Intelligence Council was derailed by an "Israeli lobby," a forthcoming memoir by another distinguished ambassador adds stunning new charges to the debate. The ambassador, John Gunther Dean, writes that over the years he not only came under pressure from pro-Israeli groups and officials in Washington but also was the target of an Israeli-inspired assassination attempt in 1980 in Lebanon, where he had opened links to the Palestine Liberation Organization.

U.N. official pleads for opening of Gaza borders

The top U.N. aid official in the Gaza Strip urged Israel Friday to ease restrictions on the flow of goods into the conflict-torn territory, saying they were "devastating" for the people.

"It's wholly and totally inadequate," John Ging, head of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency in Gaza, said about the amount of goods Israel permits into the territory, where some 1.5 million Palestinians live.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to John Ging: you are wasting your breath.

The only thing (which will happen when pigs fly) that will stop Israel from continuing this siege is for a universal, global stop to any aid, military or monetary.

Let us hope that the increasing alternative media focus on what Israel has done - and continues to do - in Gaza will open at least some eyes on what is happening her.

All Unclear Over Israeli Policy

How genuine is Israel’s new leadership about peace when the Prime Minister says that he will go a long way towards striving for a settlement with the Palestinians, but purposefully omits to endorse an independent Palestinian state; and, when his foreign minister warns, "If you want peace, prepare for war," a blunt statement on which the prime minister stays studiously silent?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Where I a betting person, I would almost be willing to bet that there will be no real push for peace or for a Palestinian state under Netanyahu's watch.

What there will be will be further escalation of attacks in Gaza, and massive ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Jerusalem... and, oh, perhaps an attack against Iran on top of this.

And to Fatah and Hamas; unless the leadership of your organizations find a way to let egos go, and create a unified political front with which to confront the Israeli political structure, there will be no Palestinian state.

Rocket Fuel Chemical Found in Baby Formula

When a parent puts a bottle of baby formula to a child's lips, the parent might not know exactly what ingredients are in that thick, nutritionally packed mix. But rocket fuel? That's not an ingredient many expect to find.

The two brands with the highest levels -- more than double that of the other milk-based products -- command 87 percent of the market share for infant formula.

The report does not specify the brand names of any formula tested.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is no safe level of perchlorate, and that's the problem.

And of course, for the CDC, in choosing not to name and shame the companies involved in this practice, corporate profits appear to trump your baby's health, every time.

And as reported at:

This isn't the first time there have been problems with infant formula. Remember the melamine contamination of infant formula, discovered by AP last year?

And in an article covering this, the following statement was made:
"The three firms -- Abbott Laboratories, Nestle and Mead Johnson -- manufacture more than 90 percent of all infant formula produced in the United States."

If you are an infant's mom or dad, and have been using these products, or have friends or families who are, you might want to consider stopping the use of these products, and see what organic alternatives you might want to start feeding your baby.

Will the cost be higher?? Absolutely. But your baby's good health and development have to be worth it.

Feith Dares Obama to Enforce the Law

"If President Barack Obama and the prosecutors see a crime to be prosecuted, they can act," Feith wrote.

In fact, the job is Eric Holder's and the choice is no choice at all. Holder is legally required to prosecute those whom evidence suggests have engaged in, ordered, or otherwise facilitated torture. That list includes Doug Feith, but it most prominently includes George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney, both of whom have admitted to authorizing torture in televised interviews. Feith is absolutely right that it makes the most sense to prosecute first and foremost those who actually gave the orders. Pentagon fires Khadr's lawyer

He had become the most vocal opponent of the trial of Guantanamo Bay detainee Omar Khadr, taking on a position more akin to politician than lawyer and launching a two-year public and media campaign that landed him on the front pages of newspapers and inside glossy magazines.

But U.S. Navy lawyer William Kuebler's role as the Pentagon-appointed defender of 22-year-old Khadr came to an end today when he was fired from the case.

An internal investigation by Guantanamo's Chief Defence lawyer, Col. Peter Masciola, had been launched into Kuebler's conduct in February following months of backroom fighting among the Pentagon's defence team. Kuebler had accused Masciola of a "conflict of interest."

Proof that Geithner's Bank Plan Is a Massive Giveaway to the Bastards Who Started This Mess

Recall the Geithner Bank Plan in a nutshell: private investors will partner with the government to buy those "toxic" assets off of struggling "zombie banks." The buyers would put about 7 percent of the purchase price down, and the Treasury Department would match that with another 7 or so percent. Then the FDIC would offer government-backed loans for the remainder.

If the assets were to recover their value and turn a profit down the road, the investors would split the profits with the government. But if they don't -- if their values continue to tank, and it's entirely likely many will -- then you and I and everyone else we know who pays taxes will be on the hook for the lion's share of the losses.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And because of the loosening of the mark-to-market restrictions, the banks can revalue the assets upward, GUARANTEEING that they will never sell at a profit.

Stunning Government Billion-Dollar Giveaway to Paper Companies in the Works

Thanks to an obscure tax provision, the United States government stands to pay out as much as $8 billion this year to the ten largest paper companies. And get this: even though the money comes from a transportation bill whose manifest intent was to reduce dependence on fossil fuel, paper mills are adding diesel fuel to a process that requires none in order to qualify for the tax credit. In other words, we are paying the industry--handsomely--to use more fossil fuel. "Which is," as a Goldman Sachs report archly noted, the "opposite of what lawmakers likely had in mind when the tax credit was established."

State tourism in 'crisis mode'

Hawaii's visitor industry is in "crisis mode" and it will take cooperation from community, government and business leaders to keep the entire economy from floundering during the downturn, according to Hawaii economist Leroy Laney, who released a tourism report yesterday commissioned by First Hawaiian Bank.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My letter to the editors of the Star Bulletin, and please send one to them yourselves.

The fastest way to stop the loss of tourism is to stop Homeland (In)security and the TSA from treating our tourists like they are prisoners of war as they arrive at and leave our islands.

Survey after survey after survey shows that US tourism is in decline because of the police state atmosphere of the airports and shipping terminals. All this fondling and groping and peeking through our clothes is just a pretend show that the US Government cares about us all as it makes enemies of the rest of the world attacking country after country in a failed bid to convince itself it is not an empire in decline.

Enough already!

In the last 6 months, the US Government has dumped $40,000 in added tax debt onto every living American in order to shower bailouts onto Wall Street. It is time they stop impeding our businesses so that we have a small chance to pay it all off.

Active Thermitic Material Discovered in Dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center Catastrophe

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, this is a major story and will be totally ignored by ABCNNBBCBS.

This is a peer-reviewed report in a science journal which confirms the presence of a manufactured material consisting of tiny flakes of aluminum metal coated with iron oxide discovered at four different locations in the wreckage of the World Trade Center.

Aluminum and iron oxide, mixed equally by weight, is the classic recipe for thermite. This material is very fine, increasing its burn speed, and apparently has some additional components (besides the very fine granular size) which lower the ignition temperature.

This report directly contradicts the official government claim that there was no trace of internal explosives in the ruins of the World Trade Center.

Formally published in a peer-reviewed Chemical Physics journal, today:

The paper ends with this sentence: “Based on these observations, we conclude that the red layer of the red/gray chips we have discovered in the WTC dust is active, unreacted thermitic material, incorporating nanotechnology, and is a highly energetic pyrotechnic or explosive material.

In short, the paper explodes the official story that “no evidence” exists for explosive/pyrotechnic materials in the WTC buildings.

Under New Accounting Rule, Toxic Assets May Be Revalued

The board that sets U.S. accounting rules voted yesterday to let financial firms report higher values for some troubled assets, a controversial step likely to increase some banks' reported earnings but also heighten suspicions that the companies are concealing problems.

What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, so I thought I'd take Google's Sketchup app out for a test drive and try to illustrate and get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.

Bushies at Nuremberg?

It looks like Europeans are serious about trying members of the Bush administration for war crimes. It has already been reported that both former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and former VP Dick Cheney have changed European travel plans at least once after being warned by legal aides there was a chance they’d be arrested if they set foot on European soil. Now, it’s Douglas Feith’s turn.

Admiral says war veterans will suffer for years

"This is not a 10-year problem. It is a 50- or 60- or 70-year problem," Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a lunchtime audience at the Hudson Union Society, a group that promotes nonpartisan debate.

Clock ticks for Iran despite Obama's offer of talks

The United States will push for new U.N. sanctions against Iran later this year if President Barack Obama's effort to improve relations fails to stop Tehran from pursuing its nuclear program.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iran's nuclear program is to build a power station, an activity Iran is allowed to do under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, signed not only by Iran but by the United States.

Furthermore, under the terms of that treaty, specifically Article IV, the United States it not only obligated to allow Iran to build nuclear power stations BUT TO ASSIST THEM IN DOING SO, a sure fire means to make sure that there are no clandestine weapons labs (such as exists underneath Israel's Dimona complex).

Now, looking at the way the rest of the world has dissed the US at the G20, we may see a similar chilling of the international community regarding yet another US war fought for Israel.

To be a Palestinian in this world today is a truly unique experience. You are made to and in fact, begin to feel that you are “different” from everyone else the minute that you start to understand and comprehend what your birthright means for you. By the simple fact of being born on and living on that small piece of real estate between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea , your life takes you on a path that others cannot fully comprehend.

Amid bravos he couldn’t actually hear, George Galloway, the British MP who was controversially barred from Canada for his ties to Hamas, told an Ottawa crowd Thursday he is no terrorist.

“I have instructed my lawyers in Canada to bring an action for defamation against Bernie Farber, the CEO of the Canadian Jewish Congress, and CTV, for comments he made that they allowed him to make,” he said via an Internet connection. “I am not a terrorist. I am not a threat to Canada’s national security.”

Defending Canadian Arctic Sovereignty

Canada must defend its sovereignty beyond military means. Some of the rhetoric coming from Canada and directed towards Russia is reminiscent of the cold war era. As both countries beef up their military presence in the region, the militarization of the Arctic could serve to only heighten tensions.

The Goldberg Syndrome

Jeffrey Goldberg, a writer for The Atlantic and a prominent supporter of the Iraq war, has a bone or two to pick with Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer. Reviewing their book, The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy for The New Republic, he disdained "their methodological arrogance, their failure to meet any serious standard of empirical inquiry, their slavish reliance on second- and third-hand works" – this from a "reporter" who, before the invasion of Iraq, wrote two extensive pieces for the New Yorker detailing the now-debunked Bush administration talking point that Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden were allies.

The fact is; the Israeli Zionists want to have the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, the Golan Heights and, so they hope, south Lebanon up to the Litani River incorporated into a Greater Israel while the Palestinian people, on the other hand, simply want the lands that were taken from them during the Nakba in 1948, and later, returned to them.

Tax Resistance - The Moral and Legal Defense

During the Bush years, the elections were stolen wantonly and openly and the mainstream media helped facilitate the fraud. During those years, Americans have seen their retirements funds stolen, the nation's treasure pillaged, their jobs outsourced, their infrustructure dismantled, and their country plunged into a never-ending war crafted by Machiavellian-Neocon minds controlling the White House. Today, under the Obama administration, it looks like Americans will get no respite as the people controlling Obama have more piracy in mind and have gone at it in earnest with never ending taxpayer bailouts of financial institutions and banks.

A record 32.2 million people -- one in every 10 Americans -- received food stamps at the latest count, the government said on Thursday, a reflection of the recession now in its 16th month.

Democrats Duck Bush Torture Probe

Despite now overwhelming evidence that ex-President George W. Bush and many top aides engaged in a systematic policy of illegal torture, national Democrats appear to be shying away from their recommendation last year for a special prosecutor to investigate these apparent war crimes.

Last June, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers and 55 other congressional Democrats signed a letter to then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey demanding a special prosecutor to investigate the growing body of evidence that Bush administration officials had sanctioned torture, which had been documented by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The Growing Storm

Last weekend, the Iraqi government arrested an Awakening Group leader of a Baghdad neighborhood, then moved into the area. With the help of US occupation forces, they disarmed the militiamen under his control, but only after fighting broke out between US-backed Iraqi government security forces and the US-formed Sunni Awakening Group militia. This disturbing event is the realization of what most Iraqis have long feared - that the relative calm in Iraq today would eventually be broken when fighting erupts between these two entities.

Israel is Changing the Rules of War

The extent of Israel’s brutality against Palestinian civilians in its 22-day pounding of the Gaza Strip is gradually surfacing. Israeli soldiers are testifying to lax rules of engagement tantamount to a license to kill. One soldier commented: "That’s what is so nice, supposedly, about Gaza: You see a person on a road, walking along a path. He doesn’t have to be with a weapon, you don’t have to identify him with anything and you can just shoot him."

What is less appreciated is how Israel is also brutalizing international law, in ways that may long outlast the demolition of Gaza.
